Dear Forum, I have not used the forum before and I am not very technically minded I have seen several posts and replies from members who have been dealing with a similar problem to me and I believe I have tried the solutions posted but nothing has worked so far. I have a Compaq Presario CQ57-480SA Notebook PC - Model #: B1V34EA I think it was bought in 2012. Hi, You have a couple of options as I see it please try these steps might help you to fix your issue. 1) Disconnect the Battery & Adapter then press & hold the power button on Notebook for 30 seconds then turn on the unit and check if the Wireless light turns on. 2) Go to Device manager then uninstall the wireless drivers and restart the unit and check if the light turns on. 3) Please update the Bios & Wireless driver from HP website. 4) If you are comfortable reseating the wireless card which will be on the back panel off your unit you could try this steps as well. I am an HP Employee.
Actually my wifi adapter can catch all other wifi signal except my wifi router.
There are several resons.1. The wifi signal might be too weak at the point where the computer is.2. Other device radiation/signals might be blocking it.3. Your router signal might be hodden (check EWS of router).4. Signal broadcasting might have been turned off on router. Since other signals are found on the computer, there shouldnt be a issue with your couputer.1 more replies

Hi, I have a XPS 13 9343 (i5/QHD) purchased refurbished from 3rd party, recently installed clean W10.
The Dell tool indicates to me that I should be installing:
Installing I get failure log at the bottom.
Via Device Manager as mentioned the WiFi adapter under Network is not there, scanning for hardware changes does not help.
I have tried manually installing inf files but I don't get any options under "Model" when I try to install it through legacy hardware.
I'm starting to think the Wifi/Bluetooth component is either faulty or entirely missing from the vendor (I have not opened it up and wouldn't know how to diagnose this myself).
I've attached a separate wifi dongle which works as does connecting to Ethernet via a USB adapter.
Any other ideas of what it could be? Thanks.

Hello everyone. First of all, I'll give you an explanation to the situation.
I'm about 20 years old and I work for the Army. I am currently their database administrator for one of their outposts and I just use Access so it's nothing "fancy".
This is a learn as you go, so I'm sorry if this question is so stupid it makes you want to drive a nail into your head.
Basically when I am entering information I have to enter people's Phone Numbers and I cannot have duplicates, but I also HAVE to enter in a phone number. In some instances I do not have this information and I'm tired of typing 555-555-5555.
I've been researching for about two days and I have been reading about a "AllowZero" property and a "Required" property but with no direction on how to find these.
I've searched everywhere, and I have even went into the Design view for the form I use in Access and I was unable to see any such property for the text box in question. Any help would be greatly appreciated and if you need anymore information let me know, I will be trolling this post for a while!

This is an old iPAQ (Compaq) HNW-100 pcmcia card I'm trying to install under XP w/sp3. You can skip everything else as I am just curious IF/How to install the WLAN transport under Network Properties.
These are the drivers/links I have used. I'm pretty sure all one needs is the newest Apr 25, 2002 driver/utility, the Microsoft website didn't list anything for me once I had these installed:
TITLE: Compaq iPAQ Wireless PC Card Driver for Windows XP
Version: V. 22.214.171.1249 (14 Dec 2001)
Operating System(s): Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Windows XP Professional

DESCRIPTION: This contains the Windows XP driver for the Compaq iPAQ Wireless PC Card, for use with any computer running Windows XP that has a PCMCIA slot. This is the same driver that was in SoftPaq SP19556, but it is packaged differently for easier installation.

Well, I tried the update/control package/driver called SP20429. Needless to say it did nothing! There are sites listing this as a compatible XP driver. BS!
What did work was this item from the Microsoft Windows Update site (auto detected)
( www.update.microsoft.com ) :
"GemTek Technology Co., Ltd - Networking - Compaq 11 Mbps Wireless Pc Card
Compaq Corporation Net Driver Version 2.10.24
GemTek Technology Co., Ltd - Networking - Compaq 11 Mbps Wireless Pc Card
Date last published: 5/17/2004
Compaq Corporation Net Driver Version 2.10.24"
As you can see it lists this as a Gemtek Taiwan product for this Compaq/iPAQ HNW-100.
Normaly, you are suppose to install the drivers THEN insert this Pcmcia card. Well, you have to do just the opposite if you want the MS update site to find the driver. Insert the card and have another connection to the internet to access the website.
Or, find this file "SP19978.exe" (i found it searching online/links listed) it should get you online to check for further MS updates. The version info on the sp19978 file should be a newer item as its version is noted as v126.96.36.1999. Whether the release date of DEC 14, 2001 I've referenced is correct is unknown. Note that you could have issues if you have more then one connection and you may need to reboot. The original versions of XP and some products are a pain in the arse to make work.
THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS EITHER NOT CORRECT, OUTDATED, OR requires some other pe... Read more
My wifi works fine but when, on msconfig, I choose 'Diagnostic startup', my wifi stops working. Which Microsoft Corporation services, on the Services tab in msconfig-'System Configuration', are required for running wifi so I can go online, I mean the bare minimum services. Thanks for any help you can provide, guys.
WiFi has a lot of dependent services for network connectivity and therefore I would strongly advise against mixing and matching certain system services since the performance benefit received will be minimal. If you wish to boot the machine using only Windows services then please run a clean boot.
To do so follow this tutorial but once the start-up items and services have been turned off do not troubleshoot them. - Troubleshoot Problem with Clean Boot in Windows 8
Hope This Helps,
I have an old Compaq laptop with Win98 installed. It only supports 128k of Ram. Can I run Windows 2000 with only 128k of Ram?Thanks for your [email protected]
I believe you meant 128 MB. Even Windows 98 wouldn't run on only 128k.Windows 2000 will run fine on 128 MB of RAM, depending on what you want to do with it. It is capable of running on a system with as little as 32 MB of RAM.3 more replies

The new Cat 4.10 drivers where released a few days ago and i notive on the ATI download page under notes:
ATI recommends Windows XP Service Pack 2 or higher to be installed
now they recommend it be installed, but does it have to be installed? cause i really dont want to install SP2, cause there's nothing wrong with my PC and i feel im gonna be bringing on undo stress if stuff starts going screwy.
id like to stay upto date on my video card but if i have to goto SP2 then i'll stay @ cat 4.9
There is an issue on SP2 using the ATI RADEON™ X800 XT card, though that's not yours:
This is all about it:
You may want to stay on 4.9
After some System problems, I appear to have lost or corrupted the Drivers for my DVD Drives.
NEC ND-4551A for DVD RW
LG GDR-8164B for DVD ROM
I have tried the Manufacturer's sites with no success, and Google only points me in the direction of Driver Update sites that I need to pay for.
Any help would be much appreciated.
If you open up Device Manager you can find the CD/DVD in the list (click the + next to CD/DVD drives), right click the device and select 'Uninstall'. This will uninstall the driver for you. Reboot the machine and Windows will attempt to re-install the driver for you.
Hope it helps

That explains why your computer is infected in the first place.
Beyond that, you will need drivers for your chipset, sound card, video card, and others - but those are the most important.
What is the full model of your computer?
hey guys. names erich. i know you probly get alot of noobies like me, but i just wanna get all this driver crap over with. i performed a scan at DriverAgent.com and it said i had 67% Good Drivers. heres the link to the results:
im trying to raise my fps (in games like counter-strike), and also my downloading speed (kb/s). I share my connection with my brother, and im thinking maybe my 3 year old modem may be the problem, or my $10 router. =] it is a cable connection, but sometimes i download things horribly slow (10 kb/s or less!) and my fps in counter-strike is 40-60 and id like both of these to increase. if it has anything to do with bad drivers (ive looked around and people say that could be the cause), would someone please supply me with the links to the proper driver updates?
also, i have a fairly decent computer ($1400) so i really believe i should be performing better. thanks in advance for any answers. sorry for being such a noob. =/
EDIT - this is in mobos section because the mobo is the main driver i need to upgrade.
Hey, first of all Welcome to the community.
By no means am I an expert myself but i can suggest a few things.
The Audio card's driver u are using doesnt work well with Windows XP, i suggest u get a new one.
The Nvidia ones is your video card. Visit www.nvidia.com to get the latest driver + utilities they might have.
As in regards to the USB, its a Mother board issue, try uninstalling it, and then let Windows auto-find a proper driver.
Best of Luck, Nick.
Regarding your Router.
You should open up ports for the game to function well. It blocks some of the signals (behind built in firewall). Go to the Port Forwarding menu in the router and open your computer's IP to the Net. If you arent sure how to, go to Steams website, and they DO have tutorials & FAQs about it.
Guys....need urgent help
I am getting this message on Asus G60vx laptop and I just replaced the hard drive and trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64 on it but I get stuck at this message. So far I had tried this,
- Install Windows 7 using internal drive
- tried downloading ATA ATAPI drivers and pointing it to the location but it still doesnt recognise
- Cannot find drivers within OS DVD
- Tried changing BIOS option for IDE configuration to RAID, Enhanced and Compatible but it doesnt install the OS
- Tried installing Windows XP 32 bit but get blue screen error...BIOS was set to RAID at that time and tried Compatible and Enhanced.
- Tried another external Sony DVD drive but still get the blue screen with XP and doesnt get the drivers page with Windows 7.
Any other ideas or trick? I am ok with installing Windows XP on it too but nothing works and the hard drive and memory test came out fine.
Please help. thanks
1) Reset your BIOS back to default.
2) Are using the Asus Recovery Disks?
3) Are trying Dual boot Windows 7 & XP?
I need help...
We have a Fileserver, which is running Windows 2000 Professional. And throughout the day it is generally quite busy as staff are accessing data constantly.
What I need to know is, I am aware Windows 2000 allows only 10 Similtainious connections, however, is there a way to configure it so that these connections timeout a lot quicker if they are inactive, to allow more user to use these inactive points. Because sometimes it can take upto 10 minutes or sometimes 20 minutes for a connection to time out, and I am nearly at the point where I have to manually close users connections that dont have any files being used.

I need one urgently in order to boot Windows 2000
The problem is related to my use of luns on scsi disks
All the books and manuals tell me that I need to format a floppy under Windows 2000 and to then attach the following files
The boot.ini file does not exist on my machine
My software reference number is
(Message from Reuel: We do not need this information, and it might be used by others to register their copied version of Win2K)
What happens is that I can install and run Windows 2000 on a 4GB disk which is one of three. The other two are 4GB (Windows 98) 17GB (Red Hat Linux 6.2). Windows 98 is protected by System Commander. I boot into Linux with a floppy. The scsi disks are controlled by an adeptec controller which allows me to change the lun boot options in order to select the OS that I want to boot. Windows 2000 is on lun 0, Windows 98 on lun 5 and Linux is on lun 6. Initially when I have installed Windows 2000 on lun 0 I can shut the machine down and restart it again OK and Windows 2000 will boot up OK. However if I switch my luns using the boot option on the Adeptec controller to one of the other two operating systems (which work OK) and then go back to lun 0 and try to boot Windows 2000 from the hard drive I get a failure message saying "No active partition found on HDD/ Please insert boot disk and hit a key"
This is the same mesage that I get when booting Linux at which p... Read more
I think you will find that the boot.ini is a hidden file. If you show all files, then you should be able to see it in the root of your active partition.

I have a problem with my device Toshiba Satellite P50-C-18C: the WIFI connection drops unexpectedly and randomly. When this happens, restarting the laptop is not helping, the only way to solve it is to power off and restart the router.
The laptop has Intel Dual Band Wireless - AC 3165 as the WIFI card. I had updated the driver constantly, but the problem still remains.
I cleared all the files from my laptop and now when i start it up it says "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation." When i click OK and it restarts to do the install the same message comes up and i cannot do anything else besides keep clicking OK. What exactly do i do about this?
kfull Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about installing Windows and wanted to help -- but need more information. First off, WHY are you trying to install Windows? If this is because you are trying to reset the laptop due to problems, we need to know that. Second, what version of Windows are you trying to install? Third, please follow these instructions for providing the detailed product number of your laptop: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824?jumpid=reg_r1002_usen_c-001_title_r0001We can proceed once you provide the information.Thanks1 more replies
I have made back up discs when i bought this pc, But with the Windows 10 , I am not given the choice to do a Restore. My PC keeps flashing on alot of the pages, Im running Norton security and Malware Bytes, and nothing has been found. I need to find a way to restore this back to the way it was when i bought it. bought in 2013 , and it had windows 8 , 64 bit. Thank you Dee33
Dee33 If you did the Win10 Upgrade and are now trying to revert back to Wion8, I have some bad news for you. While Microsoft tells you that there is no risk in the Win10 Upgrade, because they let you believe that you can always revert back to your original OS and setup within 30 days, the ugly fact of the matter is that the Win10 GoBack function has proven to be unreliable -- and when it fails, it can leave machines in a corrupted state -- which doesn't always happen, but it does happen often enough to be a problem and you won't get any warning in advance that it is going to trash your PC!The Win10 Upgrade is know, in some cases, to corrupt the Recovery partition stored there by the OEM that built the original machine. This pretty much guarantees that no HP Recovery is going to work. So, any attempt to use F11 to do a restore is doomed to failure. Are you trying to use the Recovery Disks, by booting from the first one, and they are not working? If so, what is happening when you try to use them? We can proceed once you provide the information.Thanks1 more replies

Hi, Try to run a diagnostic test Turn your computer offthen turn it back on and keep on tapping on ESCLook for Diagnostics F2Look for component test, Hard drive test, then click quick check then run once. It will then check your computer's hard drive. After the test it should give you a result if the hard drive pass or fail with a failure id number If the computer pass. Try running malwarebytes to your computer (I know that the antivirus of your computer is updated but we wanted to check if there are virus infection present) Try downloading bios update. Please refer here on how to install the bios update http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/randomly-shuts-down/m-p/5603375... Hi: See if the W7 32 bit drivers from the HP Probook 450 G3 work for your model. Do not use the BIOS and firmware files from this model on yours. http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=7834518&swLangOid=8&swEnvOid=4053 You want to install all of the drivers listed under the chipset section. You want the Realtek ethernet (LAN) driver for the ethernet controller. PCI Device needs the realtek card reader driver under the storage driver section. The unknown device may need the 3D driveguard driver under the storage section. I don't know what model wireless card your notebook has, so please post the hardware ID for the Network Controller device and I will let you know what wireless driver from the list of network drivers your notebook needs. To find the hardware ID, go to the device manager and click on the device listed as a Network Controller. Then click on the Details tab at the top of the Network Controller window. Now you will see a Property drop down list, and it will be set to Device Description. Drop down on that list and select the 2nd item (Hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.1 more replies
Allo! I need help with this one, upgrading it for a friend. Sony are about as much use as a chocolate fireguard when it comes to this pretty nice system acutally... it's a PCV W1/G All-in-one unit. So can you help with drivers? I found this site today - so they must exist...
Remove Keyboard Sony Vaio Pcv W1 G
Tim mate the 7 OS should load drivers at install but I se from this site Sony : PCV-W1/G updates | Download updates for PCV-W1/G Vista seems to be the latest OS it came with and all I can suggest is to hunt down the drivers for the machines internals from the various manufacturers.
So if you can glean from HW Info the details of those internals it might be the go.

I think I may have made a big mistake.
An elderly relative gave me his Toshiba Satellite to 'clean up'. I went right ahead and reinstalled XP Home on it thinking that I would simply be able to reinstall all the drivers by downloading them from the Toshiba web site. (like I have done for other relatives laptops)
XP Home installed using an existing disk and used the MS code on the label underneath the lap top.
However, I am now very nervous of the fact I cannot find any drivers on the Toshiba web site for this product and I have a load of unknown/other devices in the device manager for Audio/Video/ethernet/mass storage.
I took a guess at the wireless driver and have got wifi working so I am online and have activated Windows.
Can anyone point me in the right direction for all the drivers please.
Satellite M50-130 PSM51E
Just in case it helps anyone in the future - I have had some success using the following method.
Downloaded the chipset driver directly from the Intel web site and then used a program called '3DP Chip' which magically located and provided links for most of the drivers.
I'm still searching for the wired ethernet driver but everything else is now showing as OK in device manager.

Hi: See if the W7 32 bit drivers from the HP Probook 4540s work on your model. Hi Eve09, It looks like you can find the Realtek LAN adapter driver here. The most current version listed is 7.072.0410.2013. For this driver and all other drivers, you can find them on the driver pace for the Pavillion 15-n051tx.

I'm soon going to be assembling a new rig, with an AMD Phenom II x6 1090T CPU, verses the Athlon II x2 4400+ that I now have. Obviously, the chipset driver is different and will have to be upgraded also, but is there anything more that isn't automatically installed by the OS installation or Windows Updates?
Win7 installer is mostly driver-complete with newer arriving quickly via optional Windows Updates when you enable hardware auto-updating: Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware
Afterwards any drivers missing in Device Manager can be imported from the Support Downloads webpage for your model device.
I would not change out any drivers issued by the installer and updated by optional Updates unless performance problems point to that driver.

Hello, Welcome to the HP Support forum ! I am not sure if 32-bit Windows is supported, but you may try. x64 is supported for sure. You can get the drivers for Windows 7 from HP website/servers . Here is the URL >> http://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-15-Notebook-PC-series/10862306/model/11543974 If you do not have Internet connection after Windows 7 is installed, you can copy the files from another computer and transfer them to your HP 15 via USB thumbdrive (for example). Let me know if this helps and do not hesitate to post again if something is not clear.1 more replies

Ive only had my computer for a few weeks. When I first started using it, it was very slow and the wifi kept cutting in and out. I thought it was an issue with just my computer until everyone in my house was having the same problem I was having. Cutting off at the same time. So I thought it was the router (we never had any problems before I got this computer). But I thought about it and noticed that the time I got the computer was the same time we started to have router problems. So I turned my computer off for a day. NO router problems for any of the other computers. I turn it back on for a day, router problems for everyone. I homeschool, so my computer is vital to my kids schooling. Because there computers are connected to mine to do school (wirelessly). So right now I have it hooked up to my router by ethernet cable (very inconvient this way, cause these really no safe place to put my computer where the router is set up). And it works great on just the cable. No wifi cut offs for anyone esle either. So my computer is causing the Wifi crashing. I have done all my Windows and HP updates. Hi: Your PC is not supported by HP for W8, and there are no W8 wireless card drivers that I know of. You can see if this W8 ethernet driver from the 250 G1 notebook works for you. http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5359432&swItemId=ob_118356_1&swEnvOid=413... This is a small problem but it bothers me nevertheless. I have a notebook running Windows Vista Home Premium. At boot up the status indicators show the wi fi as enabled and running but the adapter switch (wi fi switch) is in the off position. At this point no networks can be detected when I know there's one available. I have to turn the adapter switch on and off a few times then it operates normally. Originally the system would boot and not indicate that wi fi was on. Perhaps the problem is only with the indicator lights or wi fi switch.
Is there a setting somewhere that is telling the notebook to boot with the wi fi enabled? I'm new to Vista and tried to find a setting but haven't found anything that I'm comfortable changing not knowing what I'm doing. I've owned several different systems over the years but only have an intermediate level of experience with advanced settings, etc.
Any ideas? Virus? Did I inadvertently change a setting? Hardware problem?
Thanks for your help.
Hello I have bought my HP 250 G3 Notebook few months back. I have this issue with my notebook that it will show every other wifi network from the world but not that which is in my home and i have key to it. It works fine with LAN but WLAN doesnt show in the list. At my friends place I used to disable Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn wifi adapter and enable again than it works but it didnt work at my place. I just moved herespecifications are as followsWindows 10 Pro 32 bitRalink RT3290 802.11bgn wifi adapterRealtekPCle FE Family Controller Please help me before i throw my notebook out of my window
Hi: The only suggestion I can offer is to make sure your router is broadcasting from the 2.4 GHz wireless band. If you have your router set to 5.0 GHz only, that would be why the Ralink wireless adapter can't find your network, but it can see many others. That card can only work on the 2.4 GHz wireless band.1 more replies
I bought this version of the laptop in November 2013 and a few days later I had to return it because the WiFi would not work. I got my second one and the WiFi worked for about 6 months. For months I thought it was Time Warner Cable and I would argue with them time after time doing speed test after speed test and sending me a new router. So then I started calling Tech Support for both Microsoft and HP and got the run around. Finally the place where I bought told me it was HP. So again I called Tech Support and they finally agreed that it was their hardware they began helping me. Each of their solutions would last for a months. FInally the WiFI just flat stopped working. After arguing with them about how long this problem has been going they finally agreed to fix it even though the 1 yr Warrenty had expired. They had me send it off to the facotry or HP repair shop for 7 days. Here they replaced 3 or 4 items. This worked for about 8 months. I have been asking for help but again they want to be paid for knowledge even though the probem was never really solved. I have been trying use this Forum for help but I cannot find anything. I have an HP notebook, model dv8 & it has had this problem for over a year. It randomly turns off the wifi connection - the button to turn the connection on/off on the keyboard turns orange from blue. When I press on the button, it reconnects. Sometimes the pc stays connected for a couple of hours & sometimes it goes right back off. When it goes off the pc may reconnect on it's own only to go back off a moment later.
It is NOT my router because my other 3 pcs have never done this. This pc is running Windows 7 & the router is Linksys N. The pc has an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 AGN network adapter. I tried reseating the card by opening the back, pulling the card out, & reinstalling it. After that I did not have a problem for 2 whole days!
Would replacing the wifi card fix this problem?

I am new to this forum but think it's an excellent idea and will contribute where I can. I ordered a "Tevtec Mini Notebook" from ebay for my daughter. It's made in Japan, was shipped from the US to my sister's address in the UK, and I am trying to get it to work on a "Livebox" in France where I live!
It is supplied with Windows 6 software, usually used on mobiles. I think it is the networking settings I need to set correctly. It can see the live box, but when I click on "Connect" it goes through the following four stages:
Status: Not Connected
Signal Strength: No Signal
I click on connect then:
Status: Associating with Livebox BFDA/Failed to connect to Livebox BFDA
Signal Strength :Excellent
Signal Strength: Excellent

I bought this for my daughter and gave it to her last night but she is mighty disappointed that I can't get her onto her onto the net, so anyone that can help would be making a little girl very happy!
Many thanks in advance
Well, first off, remove 802.1x authentication! Unless you're connecting to a corporate wireless network with a RADIUS server, you'll never get that working.
Download and run this Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector, click the Networks link on the upper left and paste a screen shot of that screen here. Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download and install NET Framework. For machines with no Internet connection, download this NET Framework 3.5 Full Package on another machine and transfer it with removable media to the problem machine.
To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

Hi, i have maddening issues with my internet.
I own an Acer One notebook and up until a month ago internet worked just fine. Lately it is very slow when i'm in my room (download speed 0.08 sometimes) but it works in 2 spots and it gets better as i get closer to the router (it's downstairs). We have 2 PCs and another laptop using the same router and they all work fine, even in my room.
I've checked for viruses and malware (MS Essentials and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware), emptied cache and temp files, reset router, i don't know what else to do.
Would reinstalling wireless driver do it? I'd need some help finding it.
Btw i am running windows 7 and it's a 32bit.

I used to use NAV 2002 but have uninstalled it and as far as I am aware I have no other Symantec software running yet the above service still appears in my list of services on MSConfig.
Is it safe to disable this service or is it used by windows or other program ?
try downloading and running rnav 2003 (Its a program that is suppose to remove leftovers of Norton 2003 and earlier from your computer) from the link below and check after to see if the symantec thing went away. if not it should be safe to disable it, you could always re-enable it if anything.

Depends on the settings. You can change it to be always on or always off via the bios, or the system settings in windows. But if you set it to always off, the fan will turn on either way if the cpu gets over 70c2 more replies

I bought a new HP notebook 15-ac158nr today from Office Depot and got home, set it up, and my wifi is HORRIBLE. I am not getting anything over 800 Kbps. I had a 7 yr. old HP that was getting great wifi access (before it finally went died). Nothing is wrong with my router or access. It has been working great for over a year with my old HP. Even when I get right next to my router i'm gettin around max 3Mbps. I can't run anything (youtube, pandora, ect.). I downloaded and installed the latest driver for the wifi from the HP website, but it did not help. Do I have a bad machine? I was very excited about this purchase, and am now VERY dissapointed. My old HP was a beast, and I can't even watch a video on this. Please advise. Thank you,Chad

Hello. I bought an HP Notebook (Product key: P6L84PA#ACJ) last month. It is a free-DOS system and I installed Ubuntu version 16.04LTS in it. Everything works fine except the wifi. The keeps on connecting and disconnecting continuously, making it impossible for me to use wifi on it, and I use the net via USB Tethering. A friend has the same laptop, and the same issue, but she has a dual-booted system where wifi works perfectly fine with windows. Please help me as I have no option other than installing Ubuntu/Fedora. Also please guide if Fedora-24 is compatible with my laptop?More replies
Hi, for the past month or so I have been having trouble using wifi to browse the Internet on my HP Pavilion dv6 notebook PC. I can see all the available connections and even connect to them but once I am connected and try to use the Internet in any form it just doesn't load any web pages and comes up with the same error when I am not connected to any Internet at all. While I am connected to the wifi it fluctuates from saying I have Internet access to no Internet access but no matter what it says connection to the Internet is impossible. Up till now this hasn't really been a problem as I have been mainly using Ethernet cables which seems to work fine on my laptop. I know that for a fact it's not any of he wifi's that aren't working as other laptops around the house are working on it fine. I have had this laptop for about a year but about a month or so ago this problem came about and I haven't been able to solve it myself since.Any help on this problem would be much appreciated as I am changing all the Internet in my house to wifi so need to sort this out soon. Once again thanks for any help.Sam
Have you tried doing a system restore? Maybe there was some change made and you just need to set it back to a time when it was working properly.I would suggest you check to see if you have a restore point to about one month ago.9 more replies
When I turn on my new laptop I go online via wifi and after under a couple of minutes I lose connection. It is not my router as my phone and tablet all have wifi access. Flight mode is not on. I click on wifi settings wifi is on but 'limited' connectivity.I use windows network diagnostics. It tells me to reset wifi adapter then it says the default gateway is not available.I disconnect from the wifi router but then there are no wifi options at all. Sometimes I don't even have the on off switch to turn my wifi on or off. My only option is to connect a cable to access the Internet (but I don't have a cable!)Sometimes the wifi returns after an hour or so. Sometimes I have to restart my notebook.I have been reading through the forums and can see others with a similar problem but I'm still unsure how to resolve it. My notebook keeps losing WiFi connection. This only started happening when I took delivery of this used Sony Vaio. We have three other notebooks in the house of different models, all which worked flawlessly for 2 years. All that has changed is the arrival of the Sony Viao.
So the Viao keeps requesting a lease from the Router...here is a log file extract...

Have you tried the latest wireless driver from Sony's web site?

How do you know it did not occur before you took delivery? What encryption was being used then and what encryption are you using now?
For a while now, my HP Notebook laptop has consistently had intermittent wifi and I have not been able to diagnose the source. For instance, I thought at one point it may have been something to do with a wifi extender I had but no. I am using Windows 10 Pro 64 bit I am using a virgin media router with speeds up to 200 MB/s. I can get over 100 MB/s on my phone using www.speedtest.net but testing my laptop straight after in the same place with no other bandwidth loads gives me way less than 10 MB/s and often below 1 MB/s. And then occassionally I can get respectable speeds over 20 MB/s and I think I've done something to fix it but it quickly reduces again. I have noticed that it might be worse but not the whole issue when I've got my laptop plugged in. Is that plausible? It is very frustrating, I have an up to date Ralink RT3290 802.11 bgn wifi adapter and I've tried cleaning up my laptop to try and help but nothing has worked. If anyone can help that would be great, thanks.
Hello. Are you using this driver, sp71571.exe? If this driver has no fix then you may have to use ethernet connection. The Grzy5 more replies
I had recently had downgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 8 (Pro) using an installiation disk I got from college (but didn't use it until now). The installiation was successful, but the laptop does not recognize any wireless wifi signals. My old laptop and other household products are able to connect to the wifi just fine. (using my old laptop to type this message). I believe I had wiped the drivers that were previously installed when I had downgraded. What should I do?My laptop (the one I want to fix) is an HP Notebook 15 touchscreen. (Product code on box: 15-F211WM)Thanks in advance.

I have an HP 14-r258tu with a Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 Wifi Adapter. I would like to upgrade the wifi card to an Intel 7260. It looks as though it is compatible becuase they are both half size cards and have two antennas. The laptop is no longer in Warranty so there is no issue of breaking the warranty terms.
