About an hour ago Windows 7 went on the fritz. The sound rapidly mutes and un-mutes, I intermittently have to press the windows key (as well as some other keys) more than once, my start menu pins disappeared, and sometimes I'm clicking on buttons or menus and have to click twice.

I don't believe I changed any system settings or installed/uninstalled anything around the time this started happening.

I ran check disk from "Computer->disk->properties->tools->Check now" and it rebooted and took perhaps half an hour to scan, then started up (I didn't see any messages about errors).

I tried disabling all startup programs and services (except for Microsoft's), but the issues persisted. Here's a video of the crazy mute/un-muting problem:

2015-01-15_1832 - roboticsguy's library

Besides re-installing Windows 7, which I really don't have time to do right now, what can I do to try and fix this?

A:Sound muting/un-muting rapidly, have to press keys twice, etc.

Try a refresh of the sound. Go to the Device Manager, sound section. RIGHT click on the entry for your sound device and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. This fixes most Windows/Sound corruptions and may take care of your problem.

Hi all,

I have a Soundblaster Live! Platinum. All was going well when suddenly the volume is muted by itself. And then it unmutes itself again, then mutes itself again before finally stopping. I unmute the volume myself and after a brief period of time (say five minutes), it will happen.

I scanned for virus, tried a cold and hard restart, make sure I am not a victim of a trojian horse but I couldn't stop it. Any help will be appreciated!

A:Sound card is muting/muting by itself

so the icon in the lower right shows the volume thing with the red circle through it? OR does the sound just stop?

If it just stops and starts it could be a seating issue inside the comp.

Next I would make sure you have up to date drivers

Otherwise a virus scan couldn't hurt.

http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/420057-microphone-volume-keeps-muting-itself.html

Seeing this old thread above, I've been experiencing the same issue and have attempted to do all those mentioned above with no luck. Although, it will work for a short period of time to a matter of seconds after I uncheck the unmute through the settings within microphone array>properties>levels

Once I uncheck it to make it work, it just mutes itself shortly after and it is quite annoying because I enjoy talking to friends through social networks.

My sound card driver I use for this internal mic is IDT High Definition Audio Codec on a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

Not sure if the issue was that I accidentally plugged in my headset to the mic hole in my computer that one day, knowing that my headset does not have a mic.

A:Mic keeps on muting itself

Try plugging earphones in.
My machines mute the microphone if the internal speakers are active to prevent feedback.

ok in Win98 if lets say i was listenin to music in windows media player or winamp. If i wanted to turn off backround sounds i double click the volume thing and mute wave.

In WinXP how do you do that?
If you mute wave it mutes everything

A:Muting Wave

Muting wave in win98 with winamp up will also mute audio coming from winamp. I think "wave" just refers to any songs played from a file- at least that's what my experiences have been.

Hi,
Over the last few days, (no more than a week) my google chrome has constantly been muting itself in my control panel sound mixer.
It happens whenever I close my laptop, restart it, it falls asleep, or I just haven't used it in an hour or so.
I googled the problem and it gave me instructions to disable some shockwave plug-ins in my chrome plug ins, which seemed to work for one day.
It hasn't been doing anything else aside from some slightly slower than usual performance.
It's starting to get to the point where I have to open the sound mixer and manually unmute it every time.
If anyone knows what on earth is going on or what I might have done to enable this I would be super grateful!
Thank you!

Is it possible to mute the individual windows of IE or any internet browser? I wanted to do this when I was playing a game and I wanted to mute the music and replace it with my own. No big deal if the answer is no.

A:Muting IE windows?

Most websites provide a mute option for their pages. I guess you've looked for a mute control on the game website. Also, the volume control in the tray has a mixer display with volume controls for each application. So perhaps you could turn off the volume for the browser app but keep the volume on for the app that supplies your music.

I am having problems using inbuilt microphone .... when I go into the Recording settings it says my mic is working, but when I go into Levels it is always on mute, even when I un-mute it, it mutes itself again. After I have un-muted it, it won't let me 'Apply' I can only choose 'Ok' to get out.

I'm sure it's not a very technical problem, but it is driving me insane!! Help!!!!!!!!!

In Windows 8 I have apps effectively muting each other. When I go to omegle while I'm playing music, the browser sets VLC to an extremely low audio level, about 5% of what I set it to. Same thing with when I run test drive unlimited 2, except VLC mutes TDU2. Also everything mutes Mass Effect 3. I looked in properties, every setting I could find, every square byte of the software and nothing I change fixes this. I know W7 did this until I disabled a few settings in the speakers' audio settings panel, but it doesn't do anything in 8.

It's really making me mad. I have FLAC files and it does the same in every program I can use, but of course I can't test WMP because that doesn't support FLAC.
Oh and one other thing- if I don't use my volume wheel on my logitech g110 for a few minutes or more then try to lower the volume it crashes explorer and my volume is stuck at whatever.

The audio keeps muting itself. I have uninstalled the audio inside the sound control located in the device manager. But it doesn't seem to fix the problem.  Everytime you turn the volume up it mutes by itself.  Any helpful suggestions?  Just to give you an update, I did a virus scan and found that I did have a trojan of some sort and after cleaning the pc I do not have any audio problems anymore.

I have had this problem in my Windows 98 machine as well, I go to play a .mid file or play a game with midi in the game, and the midi file does not play, it shows as it is playing in Windows Media Player but no sound. I look at the volume control and see that 'SW Synth' is muted. and I volume up it and I am good to go. But the next midi file I try to play whether it is right away or an hour later, SW Synth is muted again. It doesn't do this always but enough to cause frustration, and what I mean by muted is not that the 'mute' checkbox is checked, but the volume slider is all the way down. This problem is unheard of to various search engines including Google and Yahoo. Results for muting it manually only display, nothing in regards to it muting on its own by the volume slider being to the bottom.

I would uninstall the audio drivers...then reinstall same.

No, it doesn't slowly go down, it just instantly goes to 0, and the mic icon gets the "exed" out symbol (Indicating its muted.) allow other apps to take exclusive control is disable, Communications is set to Do Nothing, Automatically Adjust Mic Volume in Skype is off, My drivers are updated, I have restarted a lot, I have scanned for malware and deleted whatever came up, and it didn't fix it. It is a Line-In Headset, with a Microphone attatched. My soundcard is also updated to latest drivers, and is placed firmly, its not broken, There is NO Pattern to the muting either. Sometimes its every 5 seconds after unmuting, or every 30 seconds, or even 5 minutes, but then it will mute itself. I'll get into a game of Dead by Daylight, and it will not mute at all and work fine, but after the match is over it starts getting muted again. Please help, I've literally tried everything. This has been driving me INSANE! I REALLY Need help, NO ONE has helped me AT ALL, I have looked all over google, and nothing AT ALL works.

Frequently play yahoo games - recently, someone has been muting several of the people who regularly chat together. We don't believe this is coming from yahoo since they would just suspend the account or issue a warning. Would anyone know if there is a particular program used within yahoo that could just mute someone from chatting, but they could still be in the room, play the game and read everyone elses chat? It happened to me last night but this morning my chat was back. Any ideas, really curious!!!!! Thanks

A:Curious about muting programs

A quick search for 'yahoo, mute' came up with this page. I don't know if it's what you're talking about, but it looks like whoever starts a game room has the ability to mute people.

I don't think it's someone with their own program who has the ability to mute anyone, it's probably whoever started the room, or Yahoo itself doing the muting.

Whats new people.

Yeah so my little brother got a brand new HP Pavilion DV4-1222nr Entertainment Notebook PC (its a laptop for you noobs) with Windows Vista 64 bit, ATI Radeon 3200 graphics, AMD Turion X2 processor, and 4 GB of RAM.

The problem is with the sound. It WAS working the first time we booted it up. But seemingly after uninstalling countless useless "HP" programs from the installed program list, the sound is permenantly muted.

Not in the sense of software. In Windows the sound bar is unmuted, and we tried testing several sound samples. The PC gave us several indications that the sound was working although we didnt hear anything. There's no errors or anything. Device Manager says its working properly. We tried uninstalling the audio drivers, and then its automatically re-installed them, and that didnt work.

The only questionable clue we have is that theres this touch pad icon on the keyboard part of the laptop itself, which is the icon for the Muted Audio. Touching this icon sets the Windows Audio Control to mute, which still works, but the icon, unlike all the others nearby which are white. is permanently red. It used to be white. There's a touchpad volume bar on the thing too, but i mean we tried all the obvious ways, but nothing worked. anyone got a clue?

thanks for your help

I'm dead tired and half delirious writing this, so I'm not sure how much sense I'll make, but I'd hoped I could find/get an answer here from -someone- finally about this bothersome issue.

I use windows 7 on my desktop pc, with a set of usb speakers, but they keep auto-muting me on everything I do for no readily apparent reason.

There's never been anything wrong with them since I've owned them.
This is the first time I've experienced a computer auto-muting without a cause.

It will randomly mute while I listen to music, it mutes at random intervals during movies/youtube/other online mediaplayers and it even randomly auto-mutes in the middle of games I play.

It also mutes the computer, completely randomly, when nothing is even going on it. As in, I turn of most of my programs before I go to bed so nothing is running and yet in the morning when I get up, it'd still muted itself overnight, while nothing was running. (Yes I leave my computers turned on for long periods of time, it's habit).

The issue started after I plugged in a new usb mouse.
Could my new mouse possibly be screwing something up somehow?

I'd just like some opinions out there on what you guys might think is going on, and if you can help then great, fantastic, I would love some advice.

A:Auto-muting problem

I just serviced a computer that had the same problem. The Wave slider would automatically turn itself down. It turns out it was a Virus that could not be detected by most AV software.

Hi,

I am developing an application which requires me to mute left/right individually while listening to continuous audio output via headphone/earphone. I have tried the following options in windows 7, 8,8.1,10 laptops,

- Adjusting the balance levels in playback device settings - My playback device is speaker, i tried adjusting the levels by keeping Left channel to zero and listening to right, i can still hear some sound in my left earphone. (try this with some continuous music)

- Disabling all enhancements, updating audio driver, used a TRS earphone instead of TRRS - Still hearing some sound.

- Tried with apps like VLC Player, Volumouse (Nirsoft), Volume2 etc. - None of them work.

-Downgraded my audio driver to older vista version - Reverts back to new one

Is there any means to actually do this or is it a windows restriction which does not allow you to do this.

Any help guys.!

A few weeks back my wave silder muted itself randomly, so I checked the running processes and saw something called loader.exe and 3 copies of iexplore.exe running. I use firefox for all my browsing and thought it was weird, so killed the processes and then did a malwarebytes scan and found nothing.

I then installed UnHackMe to do a boot scan, at which point I encountered a blue screen, which also occurred upon trying safe mode. Hours later and a combination of windows repair, UBCD4Win and system restore, I managed to get up an running again.

Now a few days ago I heard some random ads playing in the background of Starcraft 2 and found loader.exe and 3 copies of iexplore.exe running again. Again I scanned using malwarebytes and again nothing. Upon bootup the next day I was greeted with yet another blue screen.

I am able to boot the system in debugging mode, but am limited in what I can do.

I suspect the cause to be some form of malware. So while trying to solve the blue screen issue I would like to clean out the system.

I have been running NOD32 for years, I have a windows CD available, I have recovery console installed on my HDD and a laptop available if needed.

That's a problem I've been having for as long as I can remember, and now I thought maybe someone here might help.

So whenever I mute my sound (either using media key on keyboard, or clicking the speaker icon on the system bar and the other one to the left of the slider, or dragging the slider all the way to the left), I'm not able to unmute it (the muted icon goes away, the actual sound doesn't come back).

Tried running the troubleshooter (finds nothing), restarting audio services (didn't change anything), reinstalling audio drivers (using the one from Realtek's site, 6.0.1.7541 x64), not sure what else there is to try. Only a computer restart helps.

A:Sound won't come back after muting

This could be a hardware problem based on the information you've provided. Does sound play through earphones/speakers, or another kind of external audio device? If so, your speakers themselves may not be functioning properly.

Hi, alaister, and welcome to the forums.

I am not sure if it can be performed natively but I suspect that it cannot - because Nir Sofer has written a small utility that *does* allow for command line volume adjustment- and using this utility you should be able to accomplish what you want.

Sort of bizarre occurrence here guys.

I'm running Windows XP, and my keyboard's left "control" key seems to be toggling my volume on and off. I have the "volume" icon in my system tray, and every time I hit control it mutes it. If I hit it again it will unmute it. Particularly annoying, as everytime I do a keyboard shortcut my volume becomes muted. Also, it's only the left control key.

I've scanned the computer twice with AVG free and found nothing (other than a few tracking cookies, which I've deleted). I've restarted multiple times, and unplugged / plugged back in the keyboard multiple times.

I have no idea how this happened, woke up to my computer doing this this morning.

Any help would be great guys,

Thanks,
-Teef

My headphones are too good and i dont have any other ones so they can be REALLY loud even on 1 out of 100 sound.

So is there a way or a program that can lower the volume more than windows 7 allows.

A:PC How can i lower my sound even more than 1 without muting it (W7)

you should be able to lower the volume even more by clicking on the audio icon on the notification bar and selecting mixer, lowing the volume of the particular application will silence things more, it's a little bit of a pain when using full screen applications and games but still, it does the job.

Is there any keyboard key or combination which will mute HDMI sound?

I have a Radeon 5670 video card which connects to an HD TV through HDMI.
Sound works fine except I cannot adjust the sound level or mute the system
sound without navigating through several layers of graphic, mouse activated
selections. Since my card is an ATI, I do have Catalyst Control Center with
hotykey functions but they do not include a muting capability for HDMI.

I can mute and adjust sound level to the TV using the remote, but that requires
grabbing another piece of hardware which always seems to be just out of reach.
Since nVidia has the capability to mute HDMI sound, I figure ATI must have some
way to do it also.

Any help appreciated!

A:Muting HDMI Sound

Hello Rhinse,

You should be able to adjust your volume and mute it by clicking on the mute button from the Volume icon in the taskbar notification area.
Other than your remote, some keyboards will have a mute button on them.

Hope this helps some,

Hi,

All of a sudden today my computer's Master Volume control started muting/unmuting itself every thirty seconds or so. It is terribly annoying as I can't listen to iTunes or play games anymore. I tried restarting the machine after a spyware/virus scan turned up blank but it is still happening. I also tried unplugging/replugging the mouse/keyboard/speakers and its still happening. Has anyone even heard of this happening before?

thanks,
Dennis

A:Master Volume is muting itself

Could still be a virus or malware, don't just trust one source of protection. I did a check on my pc using the software I have been using for years and found nothing, booted using a Diagnostics Boot CD with spyware and virus programs and picked up a few that had gone unnoticed, it depends upon the program that is being used and whether the virus writers have found a way to work around it, also what the software is able to detect. They don't detect everything.

Hey, I've been having problems with my computer lately and happened to stumble across this site where it seems I'm not the only one with this problem. So basically my wave volume keeps muting and it's getting very frustrating. As with the case with others, I keep getting random internet explorer popups even though I'm using firefox. Can this problem be fixed by simply reinstalling windows? If not, any help would be appreciated to help solve this problem. Just tell me what to do.

Thanks,

here is my question. My wife has a acer laptop running windows 7

She uses it to run voice chat programs such as vent teamspeak and skype. But for some reason windows keep auto muting one or more a few times a day. we can click on the volume control on the bottom right of screen click the mixer opition and turn the sound back up, But it will do it again later on in the day. What could be causing this?

A:auto muting software

that is normally a Skype setting
open Skype/tools/options/audio settings & uncheck automatically adjust speaker settings
The press save
There might be a similar option in teamspeak as well
When Skype detects a loud noise coming through it reduces the volume to protect your hearing

I have a new Gigaware USB headset that mutes intermittantly when I speak. I am using it with Skype, so the person I am speaking with is missing half of what I say. It sounds to them like it is cutting in and out. I have checked all settings in audio devices. Nothing is muted, all volumes are set med to high, and each tab has the headphone choice selected. I thought it was the headphones, so I took them back and got another set, but it is still doing the same thing, so it must be the computer. Any suggestions?

I am using Windows XP.

Like others, I got some movies in formats like MP4, AVI, and MOV. Some movies I like to share with children, like "A Christmas Story," but you got scenes and words they should not hear. I read about some methods and plugins for VLC, but some have been removed or too old for current VLC versions on Windows. So I am asking if anyone knows of fresh methods (free software [I can not afford to buy anything] or methods within VLC) to be able to play a movie and have it mute certain time frames I choose and skip or blank out others? Looking for some current suggestions that would work, like a text file it reads from to mute, skip, blank time frames, or some editing of a copy of the movie (because I will not manipulate the original file), or something.Thank you for any ideas.I reply as fast as I can, but it could be hours or months.

Hi Imrankhan,

Please let us know the exact model number of the audio card installed on the system. Also, let us know if you have tried to update the Windows driver first and then the driver for Linux Mint.

Dear forum, My laptop has this issue for a few months now. After a Realtec audio driver update, fails my laptop on reopening my sound to my headphones. It uses the speaker settings from the laptop itself to switch it through to my headphones port. For some reason, when ever i mute/ shut down my sound (because of college, and i don't have my headphones plugged in then)It won't return my sound to my headphones when ever i turn it back up again.I'll have to turn it on and reboot my laptop to regain my sound. Tis is only an issue on the headphones port because when i unplug my headset, audio will start playing on the internal speakers. At first i thought it was a bug from the driver update but i keep having the same issue after the latest update. Is there somewhere an hidden setting which maybe causes this. Or is there a method for me to trubbelshoot if my hardware/ drivers are working propperly? This is a really annoying thing for me because my sound settings are really low due to a great headset, and when i forget that i'm on the lowest setting already and try to turn it down one more. It will shut down cause i exedently muted my speakers then and won't re-open until a system reboot. Hopefully some of you have an idea or had the same issue and know how to solve it. Kind regards,Diablo

OK, I've been doing some research to find a solution, and it seems this problem is widespread, but I found need someone to personally help me. I ran AVG and Malwarebytes and they found nothing. The "wave" sound setting keeps muting itself every few minutes or so for no reason, and even if I drag it back up after a few minutes it just mutes itself again. Also, I will occasionally hear an ad (that sometimes isn't even in English) in the background of my computer, even if I don't have anything open! I'm not sure what's causing this, and I really don't want to do a system wipe. Please help!

Here's a little annoying problem I've been having with my laptop...

It will mute itself out at the most random times.

Like, for example, if you turn the computer on, the sound is on. Then, right when you're about to log on, it mutes itself out. Or, if you were to lock your computer, the sound would stay on, but when you try to unlock it, it'll mute itself again. (Get it?)

I've tried installing audio drivers, but with the audio drivers, NO SOUND plays.

Is there anything I can do about this?

Recently, my Lenovo Laptop running Windows 7 has stopped fully recognizing my headphones. I can still hear audio through them, but it won't shut off the audio on my laptop speakers. When I enable multi-streaming in Realtek HD audio manager, and open up the playback devices, I can see that the "Realtek HD Audio 2nd output" is labeled as not plugged in. This problem is consistent when I switch between headphones. I do not need to get this working though; I only need a way to mute my main speakers without stopping sound from coming through the headphones. However, when I disable the speakers, this stops volume from coming through the headphones too. Is there anyway I can mute just the laptop speakers without affecting the headphone output? Thanks a lot for the help.

So first off i want to apologize if this is the wrong forum and for my spelling and grammar.
Ill start from the beginning, i was playing a game everything was fine but then my game kept freezing so i just thought it was the game, i got off to watch some youtube but then my browser was freezing soon i realised my whole computer was freezing so i just
got off for the night, when i was on the next morning the freezing stopped but when i was skyping with my friend my mic suddenly got muted [not on skype but in windows] thought it was just skype but even after closing all my programs my mic is still getting
muted i tried restarting my computer but all that did is bring back the freezing and now it mutes and changes the volume to 0.

Tried posting an image here but i got this error

Body text cannot contain images or links until we are able to verify your account.

Even if i unplug my microphone and just keep the usb in so it register my mic, it still mutes itself, i have tried using other microphones still the same thing happens.
Some notes.
The microphones i use are the blue yeti, and the blue spark.
It mutes itself every 5 seconds so unmuting doesn't last very long.
Tried running a virus scan nothing was found [used avast antivirus]
Thanks in advance for any help.

ive checked all the settings everything is working great but it just keeps checking the mute by it self. the only thing i can think of is...is there a short key that when pressed or combo of keys that when pressed will check the mute under microphone in the volume control in windows.

I was playing some video on YouTube in Chrome a few hours ago, while multitasking several other things at the same time. I don't remember what happened precisely, but at some point, the YouTube video stopped making sound. I didn't pay much attention to it as I was busy doing something else, but now I realize that I can't turn the sound back on.

I originally thought it's a Chrome problem, but after checking around, I realized that Windows 7 keeps auto-muting Chrome. All my other programs (including VLC and Firefox) can play sound normally, but the Chrome channel in the Win7 Volume Mixer is set to mute. If I unmute it, the sound would come back on for a split second and then gets muted again.

I've also tried running Chrome in incognito mode, with all extensions disabled. The problem persists, though.

I have no clue why it's doing this. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the sound driver with no result. Any idea how to fix this?

I'm not sure if this is actually the case but I have 2 alarm clocks that I use in my computer at the same time due to me having trouble waking up and the default Windows alarm clock is set to go off first then the other which an online alarm goes off after an hour. For some reason my sound mutes before the 2nd alarm clock even goes off. Does the default alarm clock turn off sounds after 1 hour of being unable to shut it off or something? If not, is it because of the two alarm clocks going off at the same time? Hoping you guys know this. If you really are wondering why I'm using two, I am using the default alarm clock just in case my internet is down and the online alarm clock does not go off and the online one since it has a better sound for waking me up.

My sound mutes every... about 1.5 seconds. I have to spam the up and down arrow keys to hear my Skype call.

EDIT: Here's my problem.

When I start up my computer, I get about 1-2 minutes of uncut sound until it mutes. Also, the computer doesn't say it's muted. It just pretends that everything is normal. The only way to fix this is to adjust my sound by at least 1% sound or mute/unmute it. The problem gets increasingly more and more annoying by the minute because the time between mutes shortens. After a while, the first paragraph happens.

Hi there,It is amazing that you are offering these help services -- very impressed and I really hope you can help get to the bottom of my problems. It seems that other people have had similar problems before, but of course there are bound to be some differences etc.I am running an IBM Lenovo Z60t with Windows XP SP3.I was previously using Google Chrome for browsing (not IE) but yesterday this stopped working giving error message 'The application failed to initialise properly error code 0xc0000022 (this may be a separate issue though - I tried a fix but no joy yet)The problem began maybe a week ago -- I heard click sounds (computer generated) and then I found I was not hearing any audio coming out when trying to listen to mp3s-- strange, the Wave output slider on the Master Volume control panel was right down. I reset it but soon it muted itself again. This has been happening since - usually it mutes itself within 5 minutes. [edit - not 'mute' exactly, fully turns down the volume slider on the Wave section]I then encountered IE opening itself up and sometimes playing audio in the background. Checking task manager I can now see that IExplorer is running in the background (though not usually with the actual app. open) - ending the task manually kills it only for a few seconds then it begins again.Similar to other occurances like this I've seen, I've tried several anti-virus and anti-spyware apps and nothing is being flagged other than a few 'harmless'... Hello guys. First question - pl be gentle and assume zero knowledge of techie terms...... Anyway........

For some weeks now the Soundmax control panel KEEPS POPPING UP onscreen and driving me mad.....

It-s totally intermittent and random........ sometimes it happens almost as soon as the laptop boots up..... SOmetimes it waits ten or fifteen minutes before it starts doing it.

Sometimes it also mutes itself...... sometimes it doesn-t. Sometimes it makes watching TV impossible. Sometimes it doesn-t interrupt too much.

I have run AVG several times but it registers no infections.

PS - this may be connected...... for quite a few months now - antedating the popup prob - the microphone on the computer hasn-t worked. No it has not been accidentally muted. It just doesn-t work any more. In practice this hasn-t bothered me too much as I have a netbook I can use for Skypeing - but the netbook screen is too small for TV etc so I really would appreciate a fix to the Soundmax popup problem;

Hello there,

I am working to cleanse my mother's computer for her. Every few hours or so the computer will experience several problems and then continue to work fine until the next episode. The symptoms during that time are, the volume muting and unmuting itself rapidly unprompted, when a text field is selected the apostrophe symbol will be typed as if held down, and the cursor will exhibit sluggish lag. I ran a few tools to try to remedy this myself and while though some were successful in removing something (or part of something) the problem reappears the next day. Also I was wondering if you might know if a quarantine folder for these antivirus programs can be safely deleted or moved to a new directory at least. I will also post logs of my updated malwarebytes scan below the dds logs.

Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to offer, -Michael

Every minute or so, the volume will shut off, and when I check the Master Volume, Wave is always muted. I can bring it back up, but after random intervals (ranging from 2 seconds to 5 minutes), the wave will be muted again. Also, invisible sound adds randomly appear and the only way to shut them off is to end svchost.exe in the Processes bar of Task Manager. iexplorer.exe is also using CPU in the Processes as well.

Hello
I think I may have caught an annoying virus on my laptop recently. I don't use internet explorer, but there is an iexplorer process running in the background. The first time it's happened the iE window was invisible, and did not appear in the taskbar. There is also a problem where the "Wave" slider in volume control will go down to minimum periodically.

I ran MBAM and SAS, and it found a few infections. I deleted those but it solved the problem up until I tried to reconnect to the internet. I was reading a few of the threads and saw that it could be a rootkit, so I have downloaded Bootkit_Remover also and have a log for that also.
After I ran the MBAM and SAS the iE windows are no longer invisible.

I've got a screenshot of 2 unwanted internet explorer windows and 1 that I opened manually, along with my volume problem.
The history of the suspicious windows shows the history for dailygamingupdate and therugged, but the one that I opened up doesn't show those, only the history I looked up myself, superantispyware and google. I was going to try to block the address. But it didn't work because it looks like it's a whole different internet explorer for some reason.

The temproary internet files are also located in different locations on the hard drive.
I only noticed this when I was trying to clear the cache.

The suspicious windows target; C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

Hi guys!

I have seen a thread exactly like this that also has a post from an admin asking someone who jumped in on the thread to repost a new one, so I am doing the same.

Basically, my keyboard will sometimes type "lkjlkjkljkljlkjklj" or any other random collection of letters when I start up. As well as this, my sound mutes itself. Below is a list of what I am running and what I have done so far to combat this.

OS: Windows Vista Premium Home Edition (completely up to date)
MoBo: ASUSTeK P5N-E SLI
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
RAM: 2x A-Data technology 1024 matched sticks
Graphics: 2x NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT SLI enabled
Keyboard: Saitek Gaming Keyboard
Mouse: Logitech Mx518
Monitor: LG 22" TFT
Sound: Vista on board (realtek I believe)

So far I have:

Restarted my PC (no result sometimes, but it is hit and miss)
Used system restore (no effect)
Checked drivers are up to date (yup yup)
Downloaded and re-installed said drivers just to be sure
Checked for compatability issues (none exist as of yet)
Tried a different keyboard (no good)

I am at a dead end tbh. I have thought about re-installing windows, but Vista is a different beast completely and I have heard of people having serious issues doing it.

A few matters of note:

I can trace the start of these issues to the removal of my sound card, an Xfi that to be quite frank with you sucked (didnt like mics, even though it supposedly supported them). I did this by the book and installed Realtek ... Read more

Hello, I'm having a problem on my windows xp. Whenever I start up the computer the wave in volume seems to be muting by itself. Eventhough if i adjust it, it'll mute back by itself in moments. Also, my main browser is Mozilla Firefox, but internet explorer ads keep popping up. It's been doing this for 2 days now, and I'm really getting annoyed. I'm also 15 years old, so I'm not really good with computers. Can anybody help me please?

I have found an issue where I cannot turn up my volume from ANY external source [whether it be my mouse or external keyboard] or my microphone will get muted. This has happened with multiple microphones, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling smartaudio, and looked at random programs and killed them and it has not fixed itself. Anybody have any ideas?

I've got a cordless logitech iTouch keyboard. When I hit the button button on the keyboard, it mutes the "master volume". However WAV volume seems to overwrite the master volume. Meaning if I have an mp3 playing you can still hear it even though master volume is mute.

Strange I know, but it's true.

Sound card is onboard: Intel 82801BA/BAM AC' 97

I've got latest drivers from Logitech, but problem still occurs with different keyboard.

A:Muting master volume doesn't mute all?

Hi:

I have the same problem. WAV volume level is used instead of master volume. It does not matter if I use my laptops volume buttons or adjust the volume with the volume control in the Control Panel.

My sound is processed using an ALi Audio Accelerator.

If anyone can help with this it'd be super.

Croque.

I have a Kodak Easy share M575 camera that I use to film videos with. It has always worked well for me, except for last night. I uploaded some video to my laptop as always, but when I went to edit them, the audio was basically gone on all of them. I hear it fine when I watch them on my camera, but not after I upload it. I know it's my laptop because i can hear the audio on another laptop. Do you know why my laptop won't play the new video audio? I have a Compaq laptop with Vista.

Hi Cowmer, and welcome to TSG.

I may not be able to help, but it could help someone else here to help you if you gave us some more details ...

Do you have any older videos saved on the computer that you know for sure had working sound and do they play OK in the editor?

Do you hear sound OK for other applications?

How are you transferring the files from the camera to the computer?

What software are you using to edit the files?

Hello, I recently purchased a professional refurbished HP/Compaq Mobile Workstation 8710w. My problem is: I cannot control the brightness of the display. When I use the function keys for increasing or decreasing the brightness (fn+f10 or fn+f9) an on-screen display with a bar indicating level of brightness apears, but the real brightness of the display remains unchanged at a low to average level. I also can enable or disable the brightness sensor using the function keys fn+f11. Then the systems tells me with an on screen message it has enabled or disabled the sensor, but the brightness remains also unchanged. But if I use the Quick Launch Button for muting the audio (the orange one), then the brightness of the display increases fast to (i think) maximum. (And the sound is muted as well). When I press the mute button again the sound returns and the display brightness slowly decreases to its former low level. In the state when the ssound is muted and the brightness is at maximum the key fn+f9 and fn+f10 have also no effect, but the on-screen brightness bar apears again. Some technical information: I configured a dual boot system using both Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit) and Windows XP Professional (32bit). Both operating systems were freshly installed from scratch. The Quick Launch Button driver and application are installed under both systems. Both systems have the same behaviour described above. Thanks for any suggestions! Regards Matthias I cannot control

Hey guys, I made an extension cord from from components for a 3.5mm stereo socket, and I have noticed that while I am using this the audio has muted unexpectedly. I have only noticed it on two different video files, and it is always during the same part of the video. The problem doesn't occur if not using the extension. It isn't an important problem, I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas what caused this.

I have followed all standard procedures. At least three Dell technicians have worked on this problem for about a total of 15 or so hours. They have updated both Windows 10 and the (Realtek) microphone driver. I am trying to use the speech function of a language teaching program. I can answer one or two question on my microphone, and then it mutes itself.

Hi everyone
my name is George i am 22 years old and i woule really apriciate your help.
I am having a wierd problem(10-12 days old now) with my sound on windows 10.
Everytime i open Chrome lets say my sound is either muted like dying from lag or making a very wierd buzzing noise.
I noticed that when i was listening to music from Stopify and when i was talking in Skype.
First i thought it would be a Chrome problem but then i noticed that same thing happens to me everytime i open a game.
Most of the times is 3-4 seconds at maximum and the most wierd thing is that when i am trying to open Chrome and i try to load a URL the sound is either muted or making buzzing noises until the page is fully loaded.
Now because i really want to save your time and give you the best information possible about my probelm, i have done every check possible with windows tools(and not only) to see if my RAM, CPU,GPU
or anythign else is creating that problem. Every test showed that everything works like a charm.
I have already checked to unplug any device and just let the audio plugged in so i can check the problem and the problem was still there.
I have every driver updated to the latest version and double checked that.
My computer specs:
Motherboard: AsusTEK z79-P
CPU: Intel i7 5775C 3.30 GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 750
RAM: 16 GB DDR3
OS: Windows 10 Home Edition x64
