I have a user that created a table in word.
The first two pages break correctly, but the 3rd page breaks about half way down the page. The fourth and fifth pages look fine. The first couple of rows on page 4 are small enough that they should fit on the bottom of page 3...... I would appreciate any suggestions.

A:table break/page break in Word

Click in table.
Hit Table-->Select table
Check the following settings:

1. Format-Paragraph, Line & Page Breaks tab. Keep with Next and Keep Rows together--turn OFF

2. File-Page Setup, Layout tab. Alignment must be Top (not center)

3. (for Word 97)
Table-Cell Height & Width. Allow rows to break across pages must be OFF.

3. (for Word 2K)
Table-Table Properties. (I forget which tab.) Allow rows to break across pages must be OFF.

It could be a combination of 2 or more of the above 3...

As there is no Break/Pause key on the keyboard ... What is the key stroke combo that allows you to do a ctrl-break? I have searched around and cannot seem to find an answer. I have tried all the variations that are listed on wikipediahttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Break_key I have also tried the other suggestions that are listed on this site, however they are for other products, and they do not work for the Yoga 11s Ideapad

We are using Word 2003 SP2, running on on WinXP version 2002 SP2.
to briefly illustrate our problem:

Say I have four Word files, called B, C, D and E. Each file is three-to-five pages long, and each file ends with a Next page section break, created by dropping down the Insert menu and selecting Break... > Next page. Remember that - each of the four files ends with a Section Break (Next Page).

I create a fifth file, called A, which is a composite of files B through E inserted as links (because I want to be able to update files B through E and then pull those changes into file A). My new and blank file A is open, and I drop down the Insert menu, select File, and navigate to the file called B. I press the Insert button at the lower-right of the Insert File window and select Insert as Link. I repeat this process for files C, D and E so that, when I finish, file A is made up of files B through E, each inserted as link.

When I review file A and scroll from top to bottom, I notice that file D's text does not begin at the top of the page following the end of file C's text, as you would expect with a Section Break (Next Page) inserted at the end of file C, but rather the Section Break (Next Page) has somehow turned into a Section Break (Continue) during the linking process to file A, and so file D's text begins on the same page and a line or two below the end of file C's text. This is bad.

Can someone tell me how I can prevent my Section Break (Next Page) f... Read more

Well I've gotten a lot of mixed answers on this question some saying it will be perfectly fine others saying I'm toast.

I was tuning up and adjusting some wires in my computer the other day when this happened:

I connected all my case fans to a cord coming from my psu that had 4 molex connectors, on the other side was a 4-pin sys fan connectors (or so I thought).

My fans had been running fine without them being attached to the motherboard but curious me decided I would connect it anyways only the it was a 4-pin and my motherboard was a 3-pin.

I did some research and a majority of the people said I should be fine. So I went for it.

I plugged the in the 4-pin to the 3-pin and flipped on the power. I heard a faint crackle and immediately cut the power. Very quickly, I'd be surprised if the power was on for much more than half a second.

I smelt for a brief moment the smell of overheated computer coming from the 4-pin/3-pin contraption. No smoke. And no signs of burning, blackness, anything.

I panicked like I never thought possible. I've yet to explore the back of the motherboard to see if there is any damage there but something tells me there wouldn't be. But obviously I can't be sure unless I look.

I few minutes later I plugged it in and turned on the computer, all the lights came on, no beeps, and I got a display just like I've always got.

I went into the BIOS and took a look at everything and it at looked good.

Despite this I... Read more

Basically the problem is that I cant see anything when i turn on the pc. As in nothing shows up, the monitor wont even turn on - it stays on standby. The computer sounds like its working normally, everything runs and there are no bios beeps. But everything behaves as if the computer is still off. The monitor dosnt even recognise the cpu is on and the mouse (optical) dosnt glow.
So i pulled out my old pc (that works) and chucked in the parts of the problematic one, one at a time. I tested the Graphics card, RAM, Hard drive, took away all the extras (modem, firewire PCI and TV tuner). And the parts work fine when i tested them out on my other pc. So basically i havnt tested the cpu/ motherboard. It was working fine and suddenly one day i got a blue screen and then it would start but cant see anything - not even the starting stuff about the drives and press DEL to enter setup.

Can anyone please give me some suggestions, i know some basic knowledge so i can change the motherboard if you guys think i should, because this computer had some other whacky problem which was fixed by swapping the RAM's. :S I have no idea why but when i swapped the rams both worked, as opposed to only one working.

Anyway, i would really appreciate it if you guys could take the time to give me a few suggestions.

A:Please Help Me I Am About To Break! Cant See Anything On Pc!

Well i convinced my supplier to take it back and repair.
He says that warranty on the computers are only a yr! apparently thats standard because i bought an entire computer from him not just a mobo :S. Sounded like he was trying to rip me off, so i argued why do they have a 3yr warranty on the mobo and he said he will have to send it back to china (to ASUS) cos it was an outdated mobo.
I didnt want to waste anymore money so i sent it back.
Hopefully i get replaced with a newer model or atleast a working same model.

I am working on an old Dell Dimension 4100. Their seems to be some problems when I removed the RAM. I removed the RAM to clean off the access dust, inserted the RAM back and now the PC wont work. I dunno if I damaged the RAM or the motherboard. Anyway to tell.

Ive unplugged everything except power supply, video card, and RAM. PC will power on, cds will light up, fans turn on, accesses HD, but I never hear any beeps or disk drive being read. Monitor wont turn on. Tried different video cards just to make sure

When I remove the RAM, the computer will beep twice.

Any ideas?

First off, thankyou in advance for any help provided. Only just found these forums and have a feeling they are going to be very helpful

I picked up a shiny new PC yesterday much to the annoyance of the wife (oops) and everything seemed to be running nicley untill I wanted to use an old HDD like a USB memory stick for file transferes.

I plugged it in and a little message popped up saying device installed (i think), but I could not find it anywhere. No folder or options as to which way I'd want to view the files and nothing on the "Computer" tab. It was like there was nothing plugged in. I know it should work as it shows on the wifes laptop with 32bit Vista on it.

A friend with a bit more Vista experience tried to install WMD from a menu which came up as failed and now tries to install on every time I switch the machine on.

But also, now when I click the "Computer" tab, explorer crashes and hangs. Task manager tries to close it but nothing happens, so I have to reset the PC. It seems like the HDD is searching for something while it tries to close.

Could my HDD be at fault or should I just reinstall Vista and cross my fingers ?

Games and the internet work fine, but I can't access the computer tab.

any help would be great.

This is quiet annoying. I am working on Photoshop doing whatever, and suddenly after about an hour or 2, it will start not working right. For example: Not being able to move any later. Not being ablt to change text. Resize. Change in anyway. Or Add anything. I can click on the toolbars on the left and the icon pops up, then when I move the mouse over my work it turns into arrow again, and doesnt do anything.

Any Ideas?

I just built a new system around Vista Ultimate x64 and have the OS installed on a 600 gb sata hd. My previous system had 2 74gb raptors at Raid 0. I assumed that I could take each out, format it, and pop it into the new system but apparently I'm not quite as smart as I think I am.

I removed one of the 74 gb raptors, put it in the new system, booted up, formated the drive, no problem. HOWEVER, when I put the second of the previously Raided drives into the new system, it is not recognized at all. While the bios recognizes both of the 74 gb raptors (each has the same id/serial number in the bios btw), vista only sees one.

How to I get vista to see that I have three independent drives? Raid is disabled in my bios.

Thank you.

A:How to break an old raid

Hi, moemoe111
Try putting only the second rapture drive in your computer, insert your vista dvd and perform an install up to the point where you have formatted the drive, then break off the install place your new drive back in with the second rapture drive, remembering to set your new drive to boot up, boot up the system and format the second rapture drive.

Hopefully this will work

I started with this:

CPU - Intel Core i7 960
Video Card - ATI Radeon 5870
MOBO - Alienware 0H869M
Memory - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB
BIOS- a11 (Dell / Alienware current BIOS)

Ended up overclocking the CPU to 3.9 using someone elses #'s for that CPU. It ran everything with stable temps for about 30min, then I decided to go buy a GPU (970gtx)..so I went and got that, came back, installed it, turned on PC. Booted really slow. I get one beep at startup, it continues to boot and all that jazz though. We're just talking back to the stone age status..2-3minutes to boot up windows.. Decided the Overclock was making it boot slow so I opened up BIOS and f9'd back to default settings. Forgot to remove old video drivers so had an awkward time getting those off (used amdcleanutility) and then got my new evga drivers.

I went from 250fps in Counter-Strike:Global Offensive to like 150fps. My computer boots up stupid slow now and it seems like every time I restart my monitors switch off on which one comes up showing the bios loading screen first and then the other one finally cuts on when windows is loading.

First thing - sorry I'm posting this under a wrong subforum, I couldn't fit it in anything else.

Anyway, I just have a general question. My laptop's dvd player has bee "broken" for a looooong time now. I don't have the money to fix it or buy an external one. My question is, why does it break, what happens to it?

A:Why does the dvd player break?

Tough ?  Could be mechanical or possibly software.  Go into control panel, hardware & sound, then device manager.  see if there a yellow exclamation mark on the DVD/CD drive?  If not click on it then on the drive, an applet will pop up if it says this device is working properly then it may be software.  Either way close the applet then delete the CD and reboot, this most of the time will reload the drivers.  If that does not work replacement drives are very cheap, you just need to be a little handy to replace it.  There are many films on Youtube showing how to do it.

A friend of mine's office was broke into and someone was on her computer. They messed with the settings. Is there any way to tell if anything was put on there or changed or downloaded? She is running XP but I'm not sure if it is home or pro. Any advice would be appreciated.

A:Computer Break-in!!!

If changes are suspected she should just do a "System Restore" to a date prior to the breakin. Start > Run: msconfig > launch System Restore.

I just bought a new laptop with Windows XP Media Center Edition.
Does anyone have any advice about ways to break the computer in/ useless files to delete?

Thanks, and sorry if I seem a little vague,

Hi huys... I have a SMC barricade 7004BR 4 port router. Well a few days ago I was messing around with it changing ports and stuff and then I could no longer access the barricade setup page. Well I got worried so I set my computers both back to M$ defaults (obtain IP address automatically, etc) and reset the router back to default settings DHCP (by shorting out pins 3 and 8 on the serial port like the directions say).

Well the router gives me the 8 blinks after I reset it to default, which means reset was successful. However I can't get my computers to see the router anymore. Now I always get a 169.*.*.* IP address on my computers and I cant ping the router at all.

I even set my computers to the static IP's I had set before I did the reset and still nothing. As a last resort I reformatted my GF's computer and still nothing. The lights on the router still work so its not a power problem. So is there any more tests or anything I can do or does it sound like the thing is broke? Any ideas would be appreciated Thanks, Ratfood

I worked for some company working on foreclosures. Pay was all based on pictures. I did everything independently then sent them pictures. My 1st day, they used a common website that i sent them a password it gave me to give them controll of my computer, the mouse and everything, so they could set up a webfolder that I drag and dropped my photos to. I wouldn't be supprised if the web folder gave them access to my computer and network at any time. I researched that a bit but was complex computer stuff I knew nothing about. The better companies in that field use an upload website or just email the photos in zip folders.
That company is no good, and I think they might have broken my PC through the webfolder. After a full refomat, my pc is very slow, freezes, typing makes wrong letters, have to pause between letters, etc, my train of thought is gone, this message is taking 50X longer than it should. I tried a new hardrive but no fix, It might be the ram. I made a ram test bootable cd but it didn't work and it was simple so i don't think i messed it up. Is it possible they could break my computer through a webfolder? it's about an 8 year old computer. It's much more than a keyboard prob. i heard it could be malware.

right i mainly know how to do the chart and such i just need a lil help with sorting out what goes where. the question we have been given is
1. Identify the break-even point by calculation for a production of 5000 A/C filter units made and sold in a month with the following costs. Draw a break even graph, show the break-even point and the margin of safety.

Direct material costs
25,000
Direct labour costs
20,000
Fixed costs
15,000
Selling price
15 per filter

i need to know what the sales prices per unit is but im guessing thats the 15 per filter and i also need to know the variable costs per unit? can some one please help.

I have a firewall, and if you can believe it, my home computer system is under constant attack from marauding, back door trojan horses. The threat to me and my desktop is extreme. The advisories even tell me the Ip address of these banditos of the cyber world.

My question?

What am I supposed to do with this knowledge, is there a cyber police station that I can turn the IP addresses into for investigation? Do you think the firewall does this all by itself?

It depends on your ISP and the bandwidth you are currently paying for. Most ISP's cap all broadband connections to the service you are paying for.

I have a very old computer that has been collecting dust for a while. I decided to use it as a dedicated ssh server for accessing sensitive information on the road as well as storing it. Here are the stats (hold the applause):128 mb ram500 Mhz processing speed7 gb hddI don't want to sink any more money into this piece than necessary so beyond an 80gb+ hard drive I doubt I will have money for anything else. Which makes me wonder if the only operating system discs I have are XP pro and Vista business, will the low memory and slow processor break the machine? I mean I can replace memory if that fries but beyond that I don't want to spend more loot. I just don't want the thing to burn my house down. So, can I get away with running xp on 128 ram and 500 Mhz?

A:Will I Break My Old Computer?

Technically yes you can do this. Your CPU must be at least 300MHz, yours is. You need at least 128MB of RAM, you do, and you will need at least 1.5GB of free space on you hdd, and you do. It will work, but you will be able to go brew a cup of coffee while you are waiting for applications to respond.

One year ago I was able to convert my mpgs into AVIs just fine. Then I formatted my computer and had to re-install DivX, and now I have the following problem: Whenever I turn on AVS Video Converter to do any of the four passes that I use to shrink my mpgs, the converter window will without warning disappear from sight at various moments throughout the process, sometimes even before I load the mpg which I'm about to convert. This is not confined to AVS - I've downloaded a demo version of Blaze Media - same thing! I've tried it on my other computer, (a 1998 Gateway running Win98). First of all, I had to find demo versions of programs that supported Win98 1st edition, and then they all crashed like on XP, only differenc3: This time I get an "illegal operation" message. I've updated my DivX codec since then - didn't help.

This can't be a WinXP problem, right? It couldn't be my videodrivers, because I'm just trying to convert without picture. Then what is it??!! I don't know, have you ever heard of anything like this? Please help me. I really want to shrink my videos so they're not soooo big on a disc.

Hi there,

I am doing a troubleshooting project with some young people and i am looking to try and break windows 7. I would like it so that it is non-usable and the only way around the issue is to troubleshoot the problem.

I have tried many different things such as:
Deleting one of the registry hive files
Removing all of the HAL.dll files
Removing some other key system files
The only thing i have got to work so far is renaming the windows directory so that the operating system blue screens and doesn't recognise it. This is an easy fix as people just rename the folder from a linux CD etc.

All other problems like the ones mentioned above seem to get startup repair to kick in and it remains in a loop trying to solve the problem...even after i have disabled startup repair.
Does anybody have any software based faults which i can issue on windows 7 which the startup repair will not try and fix? I would ideally like a fault where the user cannot boot up windows successfully unless they get a file/modify a file/run a script from another medium.
Many thanks

I just built a new computer and after everything was assembled I flipped the power supply switch -- but to my horror, before even pressing the power button on the case, my system started to freak out -- every light began rapidly blinking, so I quickly turned off the power supply, unplugged the computer, plugged it back in and flipped the switch, only to see the same thing happen again. Well I quickly switched it off again and THEN I noticed that the motherboard power connector was not fully pushed in. After hitting my head against the wall about twenty times, I fixed it and turned the computer on, but while all the fans finally came on and the computer made the appropriate startup noises (although no POST beeps), the known-good monitor attached to it would not turn on. Could I have possibly blown out the video card (XFX GeForce 6800 GT 256MB PCI-E) whose power light was also among the rapidly blinking lights, or the whole motherboard?

Once I corrected the power connector issue all the drives seemed to be working properly (the CD drive light blinked a few times when I turned on the computer, the hard drive spun up, etc.). Furthermore all the fans worked, INCLUDING the fan on the video card, so perhaps that's a good sign as far as my video card's health (or perhaps not).

What would you recommend I do first to try to determine how to fix my horrible blunder? I don't have another video card to try, or motherboard, so which would you RMA first? Or would you recomm... Read more

Thanks to the very secure box that windows 7 came in, extracting the said discs has caused one of them to develop a very small split about 1mm long from the centre and stops just before it gets to the silver. what can I do about this please?

A:disc about to break

Eventually, a small split like the on you described will progress onto the data area of the disk itself, rendering it useless. At that stage, you will need a new disk as there is nothing that can be done to repair it.

In the meantime, whilst the disk still works, why don't you create a USB installation key? See this Tutorial: USB Windows 7 Installation Key Drive - Create

Hey,

Was wondering if someone could help me with something. I have a self built computer thats around 2 years old. Its still a great computer except for one problem that has developed gradually over the past month. out of the 5 fans that are in my computer, there is a 1 inch fan next to the CMOS battery that just doesn't want to go off... I have taken apart and cleaned all but that fan (because its white pegged to the motherboard). So I know it could be due to dust insulating the heat, thus making it over heat... However, I did blow it out and it appears to be clean... Do I need to try to find a new fan for the board or do I need to just buy a new board... it getting to be REAL annoying... sounds like a small car trying to make it up a hill... (surges, I mean)

Thanks for your help,

So you guys know that Antivirus Suite? Well a couple of days ago I was like JESUS! How do I get it out of my computer? But then I got it resolved by the help of Malware Bytes. BUTTT, the next day, my older sibling thought it wasn't "trustworthy" so he decided to delete it. Now, the computer before it starts says it checks the __ drive ( I forgot) and then all my applications just stopped working. Like AIM malfunctioned, Itunes malfunctioned, the sound on my browser stopped working ( oh, Itunes notified saying that the audio configuration didn't work so yeah...), my browser thank god still works, and everything else.. Well it's infected with errors and blah blah blah.
Any ideas on how to fix my computer?
PS,
-I checked out the Windows Service Installer and tried to repair it, but it failed.
-I can't download anything on certain browsers, but for all browsers, I can't save things like pictures.
-Yes, I tried F8? or F9 I forgot Dx to try to do a startup repair, but that failed. And I tried system restore, but for some reason it all got deleted, and I hope I don't have to F11 and restore it to it's factory settings haha...

I've read up a lot on the same ol' eMachines malfunctions, motherboards, power supply, etc, but this one seems different. While doing my morning routine of a cup(pot) of coffee, checking the email, pilfering on the net - the computer actually sputtered. The speakers sputtered, clicking came from the tower, the monitor went blank, and finally it shut down completely. I've had a power supply go out in a past computer, may it rest in peace, and this is very different. The computer is currently stuck (as I type this on another) at the login screen for XP. The brand new wireless keyboard/mouse are 100% unresponsive, although the receiver is getting power. With these not working I'm unable to log in to Windows, and also unable to go into Safe Mode to try and find anything out on my own. I can't check to see if the speakers are receiving signal either, so I'm not sure just how much damage was done, but I'm thinking (hoping, and praying) that it was simply the keyboard/mouse inputs that got toasted, since XP would be firing up if I had a way to put in my password and login. I'm a song-and-fiction-writer and am desperately trying to cling to my denial that the hard drive is damaged. I suppose, since it's an older eMachines it's probably a better paperweight at this point, but I'm desperate to rescue my data. Any input, slightly dumbed down since it's hardware we're talking about, would be wonderful. Thanks in advance for... Read more

Good Morning Drew, that is most interesting, in that you are seeing a screen it suggests the basic system is functional, I suspect your problem is related to your wireless items.
Try operating the system with PS/2 keyboard and mouse with the wireless stuff disconnected and see if it will boot and operate properly.
To test your hard drive check-out http://www.dposoft.net/ this is a good little scanner you can make a bootable media from that is very useful, the program is called HDDRegenerator, it can be run ove any drive without affecting any material on it.
An excellent tool! The shareware version will fix one bad spot if it finds one but the scanner it uses is invaluable! (It may be able to be re-run)

Microsoft has published a list of programs which will not work or will suffer from reduced functionality after the installation of Vista SP1.

The list of programs is mostly composed of security applications, such as Trend Micro Internet Security 2008. However, programs such as the New York Times reader also feature on the list. Users are advised to install updates from the application vendor to fix the problem.

"Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) contains many security, reliability, and feature updates for Windows Vista. A program may experience a loss of functionality after you install Windows Vista SP1. However, most programs will continue to work as expected after you install Windows Vista SP1," the company said.

The list is not considered to be comprehensive, and Microsoft has asked users who encounter problems with other applications to first restart their PC and, if they still encounter problems, to install a newer version of the program or contact the software vendor.

The two that I know anything about are from Trend Micro and Zone Alarm, both of which have published newer versions.

Okay, i'm an idiot- this much i know.
Seems that whilst installing linux on my xp laptop, i deleted a partition that i happened to need. Not just need as in, it has important stuff on, but need as in i can no longer come anywhere near loading windows... Go me!

I've booted up a tool i have called Partition Logic and this says that my drive is just one empty chunk of free space.
However, running linux (not partitioned, i didn't actually finish, it's just booting of a cd) it shows that my drive has one partition on with ntfs file system, also, under flags, it says "boot". I believe this was my C: for xp. It has the correct size and used ratio to be.
The partition i deleted, foolishly thinking i didn't need it was right at the start of my drive, linux referred to it as hda1, it was sized at around 38.4MB and i think it about a quarter of that was free space...
What did i delete? I'm really confused.

I've tried to give as much information here as i can, and so i'm sorry if any of what i've written is irrelevant- there are some programs that say they can recover deleted partitions, would something like this help my situation? I was running xp pro and i no longer own the cd. It is however a legit copy, the laptop was given to me as a gift and thus i do not even have a recovery disk.

I have a file which is slightly wider than letter size and about 10 pages in length.
I don't want to change column width so I select fit to in page setup.
When I go print preview after that, horizontal page breaks are gone.(only at the bottom of the print area)
I go back to page set-up and select Adjust to: which now less than 100% due to trying to fit in letter size width. Now, page breaks are back.
Should I do this every time, or is there any way to see page break even though I select fit to?

Not a real problem on my main PC. I am learning about the registry and I am trying to understand the Drive Association Fix at http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm because as of now it seems totally useless:

Looking at the .reg file there I noticed these basically keys and values all under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive. So on a test machine, I deleted this entire key, to see what happens.

Nothing happens!!! I am still able to double-click the C: drive as if this HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive registry key is not used by the system.

Could you please explain why is that?

Thx!

A:How do I break drive association?

If you're trying to learn about the registry, that's probably one of the less useful areas to start. Windows Registry is a humongous, complicated beast that is best left alone.

However, in answer to your question, I'm pretty sure the Drive key is primarily Context Menu items, and not actual drive mappings. I could be wrong, but that's my understanding.

Hi ibm.

Not sure what overall result you're looking for, but try this.

1. Select the entire table.

2. Table > Table Properties > Row: uncheck "Specify height", check "Allow row to break across pages".

Here's the dilemma. I formatted my hard drive, reinstalled my programs, added a pile of new files, and then discovered that I needed to install my recovery CD's from my computer manufacturer (I hate HP). I did a safe recovery hoping to keep all the work I just did and I didn't want to back up the some-odd 7 GIG of info I put on my PC.

Now that the recovery is done, the CD's have set-up a computer adminstrator user called "OWNER" and I can't find my old user or access any files and programs. If I go to "MY COMPUTER" and the "DOCUMENTS AND SETTING" I then can see my old VISITOR and PERSONAL users, but I can't access them because "ACCESS IS DENIED". I need to get into my old users but don't know how.

PLEASE HELP!!

I'm trying to reformat and install xp pro on a h/d that already has nt in two different versions installed. when the comp boot up it tells me the drive is not recognized and then instantly asks me which version of nt i want to run. as long as the hard drive is recognized by the bios it boots first without giving me the opportunity to view/change the boot order or to boot from the CD. is there some keystroke sequence i'm missing here? i work on many computers but am not too experienced and hardware gives me headaches. any help would be appreciated greatly.

I bought my HP Envy 360 at the beginning of fall semester this year (August 2016) and I opened it up this morning (October 30, 2016)  only to find the hinge popped out of place, the screen splitting from the back, and a screw breaking loose from the inside. I can't close my laptop now and I have no idea what to do to fix this, and a quick search found that this was a common problem in Envy models. My laptop is still under warranty, but how do I get this fixed? I have a lot of papers and school work due and a working laptop is a necessity right now. Please help!

Hey folks,
Just noticed this morning that after pushing out updates for all my laptops they were not longer to access WIFI in our
office. We use WPA2-Enterprise and suddenly it didn't work. After going through and uninstalling/testing all patches pushed out (We push to laptops 3 days after patch Tuesday) I found the problem. KB says nothing about it so warning to any that are using it.

That one is for Windows 7. For Windows 10 the same issue with KB3172985

After uninstalling things are working again.

hi,

My PC is connected to LAN and we use a proxy for internet access. The admin has a firewall so we cant browse some stuff.
recently i come across this software JAP and FREEDOM and using these to softwares i can browse anything.

for example when i type CHAT in GOOGLE i used to get ACCESS DENIED but now if i run FREEDOM and change my proxy to LOCALHOST:8080 (this is the port that freedom runs on) i am able to successfully get what i want.

i even can use YAHOO MESSENGER and all other chat engines which was earlier disabled.

i was reading few articles about ANONYMIZATION and found that i use a different server or something like that to access a site but what i couldn't understand is first of all how come i am able to send this data to freedom server when my firewall blocks those packets which contain KEYWORDS like chat etc.. because freedom first of all is connected by my proxy server

pleas suggest me some link where i could learn how these anonymization work or more appropriately how these softwares are able to cheat our own firewall (i know few basics but i am looking for some advanced stuff)

hoping you could help me.

PS: if i am vague in specifying my problem please let me know so that i could add few more details if possible. i added this coz i havent got replies for many of my posts and thought i am not specifying my problem correctly.

A:How Come Jap And Freedom Break Firewall

Very simply the software you cited uses a low level encryption system on the data packets sent from your computer. The company's software/firewall does not block this data as it doesn't recognized any keywords in that encrypted packet. Additionally you're sending to a static IP address server to start. Apparently the company's software doesn't block this IP. The same procedure in reverse allows the information to return past the company's software and firewall. This link explains a bit about the anonymization process and "onion routers." http://www.spirit.com/Network/net1101.html A search using Google will show similar information from many sources. Hope this helps you.

It's been a while since I set up my home network. It consist of two desktops (XP Pro), laptop, Humax Series 2 Tivo, wired print server (DLink), Wii, PSP......My point is that I usually do not have any problems with simple networking. Yesterday, I went to a friends house and installed two wireless PCI cards, so they could share a internet connection. No problems. Then I was going to set him up a little in house file and printer sharing, and that's where the issues began. I couldn't make it work, no matter what I did. I used the setup wizard on the host pc and at the end it prompted me to save the configuration to a floppy. He has no floppy drives. All my machines still have them, either because of their age, or because I built them and raid drivers and such come on floppys. Why is their no USB support for this feature, or is there some way around this? two of his machines are running XP Home and the third Vista. I didn't even attempt to get the Vista machine on the network, just the two XP machines. All are hitting the internet via a DSL modem/ wireless router. Any help will be appreciated...Thanks in Advance, dm

A:Floppy! Give me a break...

Each XP Home machine will run its own copy of the Network Setup Wizard, so even if you did create a floppy or any other media it wouldn't matter. I don't know about Vista--I assume that at least some versions have pretty much the same wizard.

Why a "host" machine? Some reason to not just have all the computers connect to the modem/router?

HI!

I am using 6 core multimode armored optical fiber outdoor cable for my factory network.

Cable has laid under ground. This cable has broken in two pieces at the time of preparing that place for plantation.

I am unable to find the immdt solution or contact a proper person.

I donot have much knowledge about optical fiber connectrs(male female), terminators etc.

Will you please help me.

Thank you
Sandeep

A:optical fibre break down

My suggestion would be to contact the contractor who laid the fiber in the first place. Failing that, contact another local contractor who has the test equipment and tools to locate the breaks, splice the fiber, and then retest it.

Never used a forum in the past, and I'm not sure I'm in the right place now.  But I have an HP Envy (don't know off hand the screen size), but I've been reading about all the hinge breakage issues, as my LH hinge pushes the bottom LH plastic cover under the hinge down.  I'm concerned that the hinge on this laptop is about to go out. I bought this laptop December of 2014, warranty ran out December of 2015.  I'm just about to get to the two year old mark.  I've had two HP desktops, and this is the second HP laptop.  I've been glad to stick with HP, but now I need HP's help.  as a lot of other folks have mentioned, the laptops are too expensive to have something like this happen, and it's unreasonable to spend half the cost of the laptop for repairs. I'd like someone from HP to contact me to discuss this.

After using Windows 8 awhile, I still find myself going to either my start screen, all apps, or control panel, to access this stuff, instead of just right clicking the Windows icon. I then remember there's a faster way after I'm already there. I mean Microsoft had enough foresight(which I find great for power-users & beginners alike) to add this in 8 and 10 and I keep forgetting it. Anyone else?

A:Old habits hard to break

The opposite for me. I downloaded a XP VM from MS to try to install some old blackberry software yesterday.

Kept hitting the + X and it didn't work. Again and again. My fingers wouldn't believe it wasn't there it seems.

DELL desk top inspiron 530. running Vista home with all updates installed.

On three separate occasions at start up I have been presented with a blank monitor (black) it is not a faulty monitor just not receiving from computer, rebooting just the computer does not fix it but switching main power plug off for a couple of minutes does the trick, this has just happened for the third time in a month, I have run error check but obviously this does not fix, all cables appear to be tight and sound, is this a sign that something is about to go belly up???

A:Break down between computer and monitor

Hello Mich,

In order to assist you further, please help me understand few details about the issue.
-- What is the color of the power LED of the tower (desktop) and the monitor when you get the black screen?
-- Is it a complete black screen or do you get any error message?
-- Were there any recent hardware or software changes?
-- What are the external peripherals connected to the computer?

I would suggest couple of things that can be tried whenever you get a black screen.
1. Disconnect all the external peripherals and try to restart the computer.
2. Run the Pre-Boot SystemAssessment (PSA / ePSA) Diagnostics. This would prove the functionality of the hardware components of the computer. Run the test and check if gives any error code. Note down the error code and update me with the same, would let you know the next course of action.

Please write back with the details, would be glad to assist you further.

Hi I am trying to print pages off the net which are set with page breaks (you can choose with or without pagebreaks), but when I go print preview/or print, my computer seems to abandone the page breaks and prints the pages overlapping.

Is this a setting I can control adjust in IE

I use IE7

This has only started happening recently

Any help would be gratefully appreciated

A:Page Break Handling

On these pages, did you check for a Printer Friendly version?

Personal rant:

There is a problem with the defaults in WEB publishing, especially when CSS (Style Sheets) are used. Ever notice how some pages print with the right side chopped off (at least in IE6, I hear IE7 takes care of this problem)? The problem stems from a long-time issue of HTML formats (including CSS) of defaulting to pixels for sizing. IMHO this is a very BIG mistake, the default for sizing should be percent. This would allow your WEB pages to automatically resize to the viewer's screen AND resize for printing.

Many WEB Publishers take the lazy way and just use the pixel default and do not notice what affect is has on viewers, especially when printing, hence the extra work of publishing a Printer Friendly version of their WEB page.

Microsoft has a perplexing challenge: getting consumers using their products. The issue isn't that their products are bad per se, it's just that their marketing department seems like it doesn't exist.

Take for example, the Windows Phone 7. It's a great software and a great interaction. Many a critic review give it lots of praise (Steve Wozniak one of them) and many a user that has one will recommend it. But, until the Nokia-Microsoft deal, there literally was no advertising for the past 18 months for the phone. I think there were two adverts, one showing off OneNote and SkyDrive linking to it. Quite a redundant and stupid way to show off a really slick phone.

All isn't lost for their adverting, their YouTube channel has a few videos that are quite excellent. The problem? IT'S ON A YOUTUBE CHANNEL! People don't troll around YouTube for things like that. Microsoft's marketing department isn't focusing on television adverting where it counts the most.

Then there was the Kin before that, an epic failure. There was some adverting for that, but it didn't come across as an advert. There was one that actually showed it being used and what it's used for, it was ok but the product was a niche product, a small one at that.

Before that, there was the Zune. The first one was iffy, it looked like a Soviet radio than anything, but the software was SO sleek and cool. The next generation of Zune was MUCH better and the software was just as equally cool. The problem? No advertising. Not... Read more

You wonder if the consultants are telling them the right things.

Maybe they are, but MS doesn't listen.

It wouldn't surprise me - MS are not listening to their customers, so why would they listen to the consultants.
It is a concern.

There are several possible outcomes for win8 including.

1. It is a massive success - beats Apple in tablets - very popular on ultrabooks/laptops and desktops , stimulating their sales. Huge turning point for MS.

Extremely unlikely.

2. It is a damp squib - it sells sort of - but only because there are a few who particularly want a Windows tablet and they get 10-15% of the market , and because it just comes on oem laptops.

Very likely.

3. Disaster. Sells some of course - simply because the machines carrying it are on the shelves everywhere. They get 10% or less of tablet market and laptop/desktop sales are depressed because win8 puts people off buying.

Possible at this rate.

I have a problem with my administrator password, my windows is an original and i try to rest the password with the system repair but it's failed, when i type in the following command to backup the original sticky keys file:
Script:

 copy c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe c:\

the result: the system cannot find the path specified
is there another way to restore my password?

A:Can't break administrator password

Thought the error message was quite clear. The path specified could not be found. When using system repair the installation for Windows is not likely mount under "C:"
