Hi, I recently purchased an HP Envy X360 laptop for Work. The laptop came with Windows 10 Preinstalled. I am trying to do a clean install of Windows 7 and during the install I get a error saying that "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a drive floppy disk, CD, DVD or USB flash drive, please insert it now. Note. If the Windows installation media is inthe Cd/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step" I am trying to do the install via a USB drive. The laptop has 3 USB ports and i believe all of them are 3.0 Any help is greatly appreciated.
Sadly, you CANNOT install Windows 7 via USB if all you have is USB 3 ports. Windows 7 does not support USB 3 out of the box. The way around this is to use DISM to add the USB 3 drivers (most of the time it's Intels drivers). I actually just did this to downgrade my 15t-ae000 from Windows 10 to Windows 7. I will be posting a new thread about the couple of driver issues left for that machine next. If you want the steps to make an install that will work with USB3 let me know and I will post the steps (it requires you to make a Windows 7 install image - not too hard). Bryan9 more replies
Hi, Could someone tell me if HP 'officially' support Windows 10 for the HP Spectre x360? I bought my HP Spectre x360 almost 2 months ago, whilst I have no issues with it (having not really used it hard so far), I wanted to upgrade to Windows 10 (clean install). But at the time I purchased it, I spoke to HP Support and someone kindly recommended that I wait for a few months until both Microsoft sort out any teething problems (by releasing Service Pack 1 etc.) and HP was able to officially support all the drivers with genuine Windows 10 drivers. At the time of purchase, not everything on the HP Spectre x360 had the correct Windows 10 drivers. This sounded like good advice to me at the time, so I have stayed with Windows 8 for now. When I finally do my upgrade, what is the recommended method? Should I upgrade it first to register my copy of Windows 10 for my HP Spectre x360 with Microsoft and then do a clean re-install of Windows 10 (skipping the part where it asks me for my registration key)? I have done many upgrades in my time and I am not really convinced or happy with an upgrade, a clean install is always best. But do I need to do an upgrade first to register my copy of Windows 10 before I do a clean re-install? Finally, I plan to keep the recovery partition as it is, in case I ever need to go back to Windows 8. Since I have a 512 GB SSD, I figure I have enough space to do this. Would this be a r... Hi @iakudi?, Thank you for your query. I understand that you are interested in upgrading your Spectre x360 to Windows 10 and you would like to know if it is supported on your model. Without knowing your exact model I can not answer that question for you. However if you go to the HP Drivers & Downloads and input your exact model and follow the prompts. If Windows 10 is listed for your model select it. If a page with drivers listed is populated and has multiple drivers listed it has been tested and is supported on your model. Here are links to assist you with upgrading to Windows 10 and answer the questions you presented. . Hello! I have a fairly new Envy x360 that came with Windows 10 preinstalled. I do not like Win10, and have learned that many of my programs won't run on Win10. I want to go back to Win 7 pro, but am not sure the hardware will work with an older OS. Any recommendations on how to do this (get rid of Win10 and install Win 7)? Thanks in advance for your help!
Antarcticgecko Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! With notebooks, the primary problem with trying to run a different OS than the one preinstalled is the need for the specialized HP drivers for the specialized hardware that comes in the laptop. Desktops don't present such difficulties because they tend to use more generic hardware and you can often swap out a piece of hardware if you need to. Laptops don't provide that flexibility. If you will provide the detailed product number of your laptop, I can check to see if HP provides Win7 drivers for it: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824?jumpid=reg_r1002_usen_c-001_title_r0001We can proceed once you provide the information.Thanks1 more replies
I am having problems installing windows 7 on my HP Envy 15 TS laptop, I have tried every solution available on the web but none have worked so far... I always get stuck on required DVD/CD drive device driver missing, yes I have tried changing the usb 3.0 settings on bios from enabled to auto but the problem is this setting is not available on my bios. Please I need help
Hi: Did you go into the BIOS, disable secure boot and enable legacy mode? Does your model have a USB 2 port? If so plug the flash drive in the USB 2 port. Did you test your W7 installation media on another PC to make sure it works? Normally that error means you have defective or incomplete installation media. If you can answer yes to all of the above questions, then try this... This is if your notebook has an Intel generation 4 core processor... Download the drivers from this link below (first or second file listed -- 32 or 64 bit as applicable). https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=24293&lang=eng&ProdId=2101 Extract (copy) the files onto a usb flash drive without any folders. With the flash drive and W7 installation media plugged into the machine, boot from the W7 installation media. After you select the install now option, select the Drive Options - Advanced menu, then select the Load Driver option. You should now see the storage driver files listed. If you check the box, it will only include the compatible driver. Follow the prompts and hopefully, W7will install.4 more replies
I recently did a clean install of Vista Home Premium x32 and upon completion am unable to connect to the internet. I received the following error: "windows unable to install ethernet controller." Upon accessing Device Manager, I noticed yellow exclamation marks associated with my network controller. I have an Acer Aspire 5536-5224 notebook. Windows could not locate the drivers on the machine and I cannot connect to locate. As a matter of fact, I'm not sure where to begin searching for the driver! Hi, I'm having trouble with Windows Hello. When I first purchased my notebook, Windows Hello was working fine, I had set it up correctly and had been using it successfully for a couple of weeks. Now, it's suddenly not working, and when I try to configure it in settings, there's an error that it cannot find the camera. I've been through the support blogs/forums and tried everything I could find, i.e. updating the software drivers, updating bios, restarting, etc. I have no idea how to get it working again. I can still unlock with my pin/password but it's just inconvenient when it was so quick to use Windows Hello before. If anyone can help that would be fab! CheersMore replies
I just received my HP ENVY X360 (T5K88AV). I ordered it with the HP Truevision IR HD camera, which according to the HP website, supports Windows Hello. However, I see no option under Settings > Accounts > Sign-In for it. I spent an hour with HP Support Chat and let him remote in to take a look. He said it looked like no IR camera was installed. We tried installing the driver for it with no success. Is there something I am missing? Is the HP IR camera known to work with Hello? Or is there something wrong with my hardware or drivers?

Apologies if something like this has already been posted, I couldn't find this issue with my searches.
I have just bought an SSD to improve system speeds, so I obviously want this as my system drive. I currently have genuine OEM windows 7 ultimate x64 installed, however the sticker on my machine is damaged (and old) so I am unable to do a clean install, Microsoft support tells me that I can't recover my product key, have to get it from HP, HP tells me they can't provide it, only recovery CDs.
I just want my legitimate copy of Windows on my new SSD, this appears to be allowed under Windows licensing as it is the same machine, just a new drive.
Someone suggested using System Image and restore disc, however the old drive is larger than my SSD so i don't think this will work, and Microsoft Support said they would not recommend "migrating" my install.
I want to be able to upgrade to Windows 10 when it is released, will a product key be provided when the product is upgraded? If so I will wait to do a clean install then.
What are the sizes of the two drives and how full is the HDD?
You may be able to clone the HDD to the SSD using a program like Macrium Reflect Free or CloneZilla.

Hello everyone. I just want to share my current experience with Windows 7.
I had been dual booting Linux and Windows 7 through my BIOS on my Motherboard for a long time. Well over a year and a half with out any issues ever. I used Avast FREE anti virus and never had a problem. A few days ago I did a scan of my hard drive and AVAST listed over 420 viruses. I have no idea what I clicked on. I have never ever had this happen to me. I have been using PC's since 1984. Anyways. I had AVAST do a cleaning, after that my PC was always giving me the BSOD. For so many different reasons. Too many to list.
I tried a FRESH install and received nothing but errors.Windows 7 would never complete a fresh install no matter what I did. Mainly error code 0x80070570. The solution? After a few days and many, many hours of failure. I ended up wiping the MBR with a program and removing the partition table with another program. After I did that I had a clean Hard Drive to install Windows 7 on. Everything installed perfectly with no hickups. I Activated online with my Genuine Microsoft Key and have had zero problems since. Hope this helps anyone that had all the problems I had installing Windows on a apparently severely infected hard drive.
One of the first Installation troubleshooting steps we have users complete is wiping the HD with Diskpart Clean Command which overwrites the boot sector and partition tablle, solving about half of cases.2 more replies

Hello, this is my first time posting on this forum, so please excuse me if this is miscategorized or if I made any mistakes.
I am having issues installing updates on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit with Service Pack 1 (I used a reinstallation DVD created from a genuine ISO download of Windows 7 Home SP1, straight from the Microsoft website). It is rather complicated, but here's
a rundown of the issues I've experienced and failed repair attempts.
I had a laptop that I was getting running for a friend of mine. He needed Windows 7 Home reinstalled. I wiped the hard drive, reinstalled Windows, and everything seemed to go fine. Windows successfully activated/validated. The internet worked fine and I
had no issues EXCEPT with Windows Update. After over a week and trying all the "fixes" mentioned below, I gave up. Now, I am having the exact same issue on 2 desktop PC's that I just got running.
Here's what I tried and how the computers reacted:

I recently ran into some performance issues with my Acer Netbook. It is an Aspire One that is about 2 years old now. I thought that it was the result of some malware, but was not really sure. Things went from bad to worse when I allowed my brother to "fix" my computer for me. The first thing that he did was open my registry and started looking for things that he said shouldn't be there and then deleted them. I do not have a list of what was deleted and he does not know, but I was watching and it seemed like he deleted and/or changed several things. When I continued to experience problems he tried to fix my computer again. This time he ran COMODO System Cleaner and a Free Windows Registry Repair. Things have still not improved. Sometimes when I turn on my computer, it will not boot to a home screen. When this happens I turn off the power and turn it back on again, it seems like if I do this 1-3 times, eventually the computer will start up to a home screen. I tried to run the ACER system reboot, but that program is no longer available. I have tried to reinstall Windows XP Home Edition, but I get a message that "A disk read error has occurred." All that I want to do at this point is to completely reinstall Windows XP. I have the product key from the sticker on my computer. But, I don't know how I can do this because I do not have a CD ROM and I do not have a Windows XP CD. Is there anything I can do?

Good afternoon. I post this only after exhausting all other options that I can find. Every laptop that I own, I build from scratch. Once it is built and updated and software installed, I snap an image of the device. This time, however, I can not get this system to install Windows 7 Pro x64. At first, I couldn't even get it to boot to a flash drive or external CD drive. An hour later, I updated the BIOS and reset everything back to factory defaults and boom, it finally loads up Windows. Now, I go through the setup process but every time I go to look at the drives [to format and what not], it tells me that I'm missing a required device driver. I select my language, and proceed, but get stuck at the same place. This is where I get super confused: This model laptop doesn't have a CD/DVD drive available, yet it's telling me that I'm missing 'a required CD/DVD drive device driver'. What?! Ok. I've downloaded all the drivers for the notebook, as well as used a 3rd party software to export all of them to another drive. It tells me to insert a CD/DVD [although there are none] or a flash drive to install the drivers. I've done this with both an external CD/DVD drive and with a 2nd flash drive, but still get the same message. My experience tells me to disable the USB 3.0 and force it down to 2.0, at least until I can get the OS installed, but I can't find any options for that in the BIOS. Does ANYONE have any other ideas to use?

Yes actually I was able to get it resolved... The CD that came with it was the key. I thought initially that's what I was using but apparently not. I work in an IT department so I have a thousand of those HP DVDs. Once I plugged in the DVD that came with the laptop it booted right up like there never was any issue at all. I did contact HP support about this and they were about as useful as Comcast Customer Support [for those of you that know what that's like]. I was supposed to get at least a phone call from someone but never did. But there you go!10 more replies
I recently had to do a clean install of Windows 10 Home x64 (1511 Build 10586.318). Before the clean install I could share and view on my Panasonic TV all the photos / videos stored on my PC. Since the clean install, while all the media locations on my PC are listed in the Windows Media Player Libraries, including my OneDrive, only the OneDrive locations are visible on the TV (Windows appears to automatically add the OneDrive to the list, as if you remove it from the list of libraries it is added again automatically!). The TV is listed in the devices to which the media can be streamed on the Local network.
I also have a Western Digital NAS drive and can stream all media to the TV from this without any problem. Can anybody suggest why the media located in the default Windows Pictures / Video locations cannot be viewed on the TV, while the OneDrive locations are and how I can solve this issue?

What's the difference between the HP Spectre x360 and the HP Envy x360? They both look the same. The only noticeable difference is that HP Spectre x360 has a Radiance Infinity display, while HP Envy x360 has an IPS display. Having the same specs, except for the display, why is the Spectre x360 more expensive than the Envy x360 ? Moreover, I thought that IPS is better than TN, which is my guess that is the technology used for the Radiance Infinity.
Hi, You've got few questions about those products. Well, come to a store and yoy can see the differences. Better still, you can buty 2 machines and compare. For build quality, the HP Spectre x360 is much better than the Envy x360 you can also find Pavilion x360 - we are talking about SPECS and BUILD here about plastics and metals about wood and gold. If you cannot run HP System Recovery then your options are to try to make Recovery Disks, order Recovery Disks from HP Support, or do the superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7which provides everything needed to get and keep a perfect install.
The HP Factory install is the worst possible install one can have of Win7 with the worst load of bloatware in the industry, and Useless utilities that interfere with better versions built into Win7. You will never even experience native Win7 performance on that PC until it has a Clean Reinstall which is why no tech enthusiast will run the factory install.
I am suffering through the BSOD on my HP Envy laptop. I had a similar issue ~ a month ago and had to send it to HP and get a new hard drive.
BSOD came once a few days ago after I paused Hulu for a long time. After a restart, it booted fine. Now, BSOD came out of no where. I had shut down normally last night and on restart today, bingo, BSOD. It will not reboot normally, only in safe mode.
I don't play games on this laptop and rarely use any graphic-intensive programs.

There should be an option on the bottom that allows you to delete that partition. Once it is deleted it will be seen as unallocated space and you should be able to install Win 7 on it.
I recently purchased an HP ENVY 15t QUAD - E4T17AV It shipped with Win8 and I honestly can't stand it. Upon attempting to reinstall with Win7, I am unable to find any disks to install to. I have searched the devmgr in win8 for the information on the SATA controller and the chipset. I have downloaded the drivers and when attempting to add them during the Win7 it finds the drivers that are compatible with my system but when i attempt to install I recieve the error "No new devices could be found." I enabled legacy boot options, disabled secure boot, changed the boot order, all that good stuff. I have attempted to install having both the SATA and mSATA drives attached, as well as only having one or the other attached, and recieve the same error each time. I have used several different drivers from HP and Intel and all recieve the same error. I have read other posts from people saying that they have install Win7 on their 15t, so it must be possible. What am I missing? Thanks.
Had the same problem... figured it out... it was not a Sata Contorller driver issue at all. 1. Turned off Secure Boot, & Enabled Legacy.2. Turn USB 3.0 BIOS setting to act as AUTO so that OS installations treat USB ports as 2.0 Compatable3. HD partition scheme needed to be reset.. not sure what it was. Immediately on boot the laptop says the drive's smart status has an issue/failing (which doesn't seem right, the other PC's I've been trying the SSD on aren't showing the same things, and just this morning the SSD was functioning perfectly fine as the boot drive of an older PC)After that the laptop would say "Boot device not found, Please install an operating system on your hard disk" (3F0).So I figured okay, maybe I botched cloning the HDD. I plugged the SSD back into my desktop and wiped it clean, and prepared a Windows 10 USB installer. While I was doing this, I also put the original HDD back in the laptop to make sure it was still functioning properly and the laptop booted up fine just like it used to.I put the wiped/cleaned SSD back into the laptop. I'm still getting the message about the drive's smart status on boot, and "Boot device not found, Please install an operating system on your hard disk" (3F0). So sounds like I just need to install windows...plugged in the Win 10 USB drive, and set bios to boot USB first. After that Windows 10 installer came up just like it normally does but there were no drives detected. I'm pretty stuck at this point. I've tried cloning, wiping the drive and initializing it as MBR, and again wiping it and trying... Read moreMore replies
Laptop will randomly feeze to the point it becomes completely unresponsive and requires a hard reset. This has happened consistently since I've had the laptop. In the last couple month the frequency has rapidly increased. I have contacted HP Support numerous times and continue to get different answers and the run around each time. - All Windows and BIOS updates are ran- I did a clean reinstall of Windows based on recommendation from the chat session. Then I had one agent tell me it was probably malware and needed to send me a recovery disk, then the next person said it was a bad Microsoft update. I've done everything asked and I still have a laptop that is constantly freezing, and this is becoming increasingly frustrating. I've noticed this seems to be a common issue with my model of laptop, and wondering if there is a fix for it. Please someone help me out here.More replies
Hello, I have an Envy x360 15t-w000 purchased a little over a year ago. Product number K8Q06AV. I recently cracked my screen and am having trouble locating a digitizer. I do not need an LCD, just the digitizer. Could you possible tell me where I could purchase one? Thank you!
This looks like one or both of these may be the correct part. HP's Manual: Manual provides no part number for the digitizer and glass. I would suggest pulling the screen and disassembling down to the glass and digitizer and compare to the pictures in the auctions: http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Envy-x360-15t-15t-w100-Touch-Screen-Glass-with-digitizer-Assembly-15-6-Ne... http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Envy-x360-15t-15t-w000-Touch-Screen-Glass-with-digitizer-Assembly-15-6-Ne... I want to do a clean install of windows 7 but every time the "expanding windows files" part of the installation gets stuck on 14%! please help
If the installer is one you acquired perhaps the ISO file is bad and another will work; or if you burned it to DVD, another burn is needed, use ImgBurn at no greater than x4 speed with a verify. ImgBurn Free ISO Burning Software
If the PC is capable, add the installation files to a USB stick and boot that for the install and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

So the power button on my HP detached from the laptop. Long story short, I was boarding back home and hit a rock and fell forward therefore breaking the corner of the power button and shatter the touchscreen. I was still workin fine, except the fact that the screen was shattered and the power chip was dangling out of the laptop. It survived a few weeks before the power chip fell out. I couldnt find the time to go to a store to see what they could do. the only thing keeping it alive was the charging power but I fell asleep with the laptop on. Lucky me. The laptop was working perfectly. I've had it for some time right now. I have ALOT of important files and documents. I was wondering if there was a short-cut or a way I can get my Laptop on without using the power button. I just want to back-up everything i have in the laptop and make a desicion of getting a new one or fixing this one.More replies

Greetings HP Fans. I purchased an HP Envy X360 about 8 months ago. I've noticed over the past couple of months that the display will blink (flicker) off for a fraction of a second on a regular basis. On average ever 20 - 30 secords. I had read that it was a Google Chrome issue, but I've noticed it on everything, programs, apps, etc. It happens in both regular and tablet mode. I've been searching the blogs, but I've not found anything that addresses this particular issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.More replies

Is there one?

I have three questions regarding my HP Envy which I recieved in September, 2016. 1) how do I find the serial number? 2) how do I correct this system error? AccelerometerStexe - System Error. MFC120U.dll is missing. 3) I have an Espon Perfection V300 Photo Scanner, it works perfectly with Windows 7 on my work laptop. I cannot get the scanner with Windows 10 to work. I am connecting the scanner via a USB. The laptop recognizes the scanner and adds it as a device. However, it does not install any drivers to make the connetion between the scanner and the laptop. I have tried multiple times to download the drivers from Epson.com and still does not work. The system is totally up to date and I know the USB works. This is driving me crazy as I need this scanner to work with this laptop.More replies
I need help trying to find a stylus that would work for the HP ENVY x360 m6 Convertible. This was a recent purchase and I chose the 2 in 1 laptop for the versatility to use it as a teaching tool (writing notes in one note). Any suggestions would be appreciated. I do not want the option of a rubber tip generic stylus but would prefer something that has more sensitivity and pressure as I also have a surface pro at school (the envy is my home computer). So I've been researching for a few months now but have still to no avail found a viable solution/answer anywhere I looked. I have been looking for a stylus to use with my laptop which is a 2-in-1 so I figured it should be able to use one. But if possibly I would really love it to be pressure sensistive so I can draw in Photoshop with ease. It doesn't seem that any pen has been actually tested on this device though: all the Wacom ones haven't been tested, some say the HP Active Stylus may work but everyone commenting have the Hp Spectre so I would like to have a definitive answer if someone wouldn't mind helping.More replies

I have this HP ENVY x360 - 15-u111dx and I would like to add a SSD to this laptop for the OS to reside on. According to the HP Support Assistant, it is a product number J9H90UA#ABA.HP Support page for this laptop provides me a link to this maintenance and service guide, http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04513489. It seems to indicate that it does have the ability to take an SSD in the form factor of "M.2 2280-S3-B-M" And in the product description, it says in the Internal Expansion section that it has this, "One 2280 M.2 daughter board - optional support for SSD"Used space on the C: drive is 90GB. The D: (recovery) uses about 30GB.This leaves me with a few questions.1. Can a SSD be added while keeping the factory 1TB drive installed?2. Can I migrate the OS (and recovery partition) to that SSD, boot to that SSD, all the while not messing the up the ability to do a system restore/recovery of the OEM Windows 8.1 software provided by HP?I think step 2 will be the trickiest. If someone knows of a free product to do this, I would welcome that recommendation. I'll also take recommendations for paid software if no free exists. Thanks. Edit: Sorry, I also have a video problem, and must have had that on my mind when I sellected where to post this. Could a mod move this to the correct forum please?

Hello to everybody. Never started. When I press it three lights turn on: the "on" button itself; the caps lock (white light); and the light with discs (hdd?) which is orange. Those three lights turn on when I push the on button, and all of them beeps once.I searched this forums and everybody suggested hard reset. I can't do a hard reset on this one, the tutorials didnt work.I also called HP Support but they couldnt assist me because my warranty expired 5 days ago (so convenient)I didnt hit the computer or nothing. Well this has completely stumped me.
I wanted to put my spare computer to use. It previously had Win XP Home on it. Last week I installed Windows 7 beta to have a look, however after realising I would be unable to connect it to the internet due to security restrictions with my University Internet service provider. I decided to install Win XP Pro with the plan to dual boot it with ubuntu. (btw I was very impressed with my short look at Windows 7.)
I deleted all partitions and made a new one on my master disk and formatted to NTFS. Installation went fine. However after the compulsory installation reboot the Windows Loading splash screen apears but nothing happens, I never even see the loading bar. I have now tried to install win xp pro a number of times, I am unable to boot in to safe mode, I have performed CHKDSK in the recovery console and FIXBOOT, however to no avail. I'm really stumped as to why I can't get windows to load, I the know the disc is fine as it has been used successfully in the past.
Would really appreciate some help

I have a feeling this is bios/uefi related
Got a sabertooth z77 with two ssd on raid 0 (intel) another hard drive for backups (Regular sata) and another storage card (pciexpress sas highpoint 2720, with raid 5)
Windows 10 doesnt seem to like this.
Even booting the dvd itself its a drag and hr wont recognize the raid 0 not even with drivers (driver load will cause a watchdog blue screen)
Windows 7 and 8 dont mind. At all.
I feel like the csm thingy might have something to do.
Bios is latest. Sas raid is for storage only. Ill search for the manual of the board as the printed one doesnt have the options i got on the screen
I had some advancements. I upgraded the bios from my sas card and configured it to disable "int 13 and ebd" something. I managed to install windows 8 and now im upgrading to win10. I hope that works
I had an error which a quick google search recomended to disconnect the network cable

I'm interested in the Sony Vaio Flip 15A with i7 Core and Nvidia GeForce 735M. But I also like the HP Envy x360 with Intel HD graphics but no graphics card. I got a few questions...
1) Which one would you buy in general?
2) Which would you buy if you were a casual gamer?
3) Sony stopped making this Vaio 15A. Which laptop is best for availability of parts if you needed to replace parts in the future?
Honestly these are stupidly expensive. I would just get a desktop. I know you want a laptop but for gaming, desktop rigs can be less expensive and easier to modify in the future.
If you were to go with one of those I'd choose the HP because of the Graphics card, the better processor, and a ssd. Although the other one is hybrid at 1TB and 16GB flash with 16 GB DDR3 1600 I would rather have the better graphics and processor if I were going to spend a stupid amount of money. I'm not saying you are stupid btw lol. You can always get more RAM, but it is not always easy or even possible to switch out the graphics card or processor. Even though switching out the processor IS possible, if you are not familiar with hardware I would NEVER recommend that.
But yeah if I had to choose it would be the HP
