hi!

I am using win 7 home edition.I have changed the cursor with a yellow circle and have named the file to unnamed.cur.After i have changed the default cursor to the one with the yellow circle and have saved it.But after i reboot the system the cursor does not change to the pointer with the yellow circle but it goes back to the normal pointer.I have put the customized pointer in the c:/windows/cursors folder but when apply it still does not apply the changes to it.I am using windows 7 home basic.

Help would be appreciated.

A:change the mouse pointer to a yellow circle around the pointer!

The way I have change cursors is to treat them like a system file you need to take ownership give yourself permission and rename the original cursor with a .bak in the name and then copy and paste the custom cursor with the original cursor's name into C:\Windows\Cursors folder. Take a look at Post #6 of this thread will tell you how to do it Basic Networking Information

Then you will need to reboot.

When I load HOMMIV, my white mouse pointer is staying next to the hand pointer of the game. I've checked all the mouse settings on my computer, and in the game, but nothing seems to clear the standard white pointer. It's really starting to annoy me, because it interferes with game play. Anyone know how I can get rid of this pesky white pointer?

TIA.

Hi everyone,A few days ago, I suddenly couldn't update AVG anymore. It always gives me an error, telling me the connection with the server failed. I also noticed that I can't connect Limewire (P2P program) anymore and opening movie streams in Windows Media Player doesn't work anymore either.I searched some forums for a solution and I found someone with a similar problem, who also told he couldn't execute the "cmd" and "regedit" commands anymore. I tried it on my own computer and I can't run those things anymore either. When I try executing them, the explorer goes all weird and shuffles the program bars on the task bar.I've manually downloaded the latest updates for AVG, installed them and did a full scan, that didn't find a thing. I also ran AdAware, which said I had some malware, which I removed with it. Then I also ran Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, which found some more malware, so I removed it, rebooted my pc, but the problems still exist...I'm hoping someone can help me with this problem, because it's really anoying...Here's my HijackThis log:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 20:37:26, on 11/05/2009Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16827)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\At... [[size=5]Hello all, I am new to this forum. Thank's for helping with my problem. The problem I am having is whenever I move the mouse, just under the pointer, a little box appears and will not go away . Any ideas what might be causing this??? Whereve I move the pointer, the box will show up under the arrow. I am running Firefox. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

A:Little Box Under Pointer

This usually happens when you are doing a Drag and Drop.See Firefox Mouse Tips. One instance is when you customize your toolbar.Click on a toolbar icon (view/toolbars/customize) and drag it to the area you want it,let go of the click and it appears in that spot! Also works moving bookmarks and folders.

Hello,
I recently did a clean install of Win 7. Liking it so far, there is only one problem: once in a while my cursor becomes ridiculously laggy. The more intensive the task, the laggier it gets. This never happened in in Vista or XP and its very annoying because I cant even close the application because of the lag.
I already installed latest Synaptics drivers.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Pointer Lag

Zlo2 welcome to 7 forums. would be nice if you'd fill put your system specs in your user cp, top of page then edit system. This way everyone knows what your hardware is. If you mean it is slowing down then you could always adjust the mouse pointer speed in your control panel. But as to why well if your using up all your memory having memory intensive app. open then this could be why but without knowing your hardware I'd just be guessing. Fabe

I have been trying for hours to find out a way to get the mouse pointer on a Toshiba Tecra M2 S-630 to function as it should.
It will work OK up to an hour and then dart off to a corner at a speed that would make a UFO look like
the speed of a T-Model Ford.It will stay refusing to move until it decides to appear and work again which can be thirty seconds to 15 minutes.

What have I tried? I have

Did a system restore
Did a last known good configuration
Disabled the touchpad hoping just my wireless mouse would work but no it won't.
Updated the driver for the touchpad and the wireless mouse.
Fiddled with the pointer speed, unticked "enhace pointer precision.
Tried three different rats with not change in behavior.
Ran a scan with Malwarebytes and Avira and nothing was found that should't be there.

What in the world could cause this. While searching for an answer I saw that the general opinion is that
the touchpad simply wears out. This Laptop is six years old.
Looks like the only remedy may be to wipe and do an install of XP and I don't have a disk and, really don't
think I could do it and this is not my computer and my friend doesn't want to spend any money to fix it.

The bottom line is there must be a reason for this problem-BUT WHAT IS THAT REASON?
I won't be surprised if I don't get a reply.

A:Out of control pointer

Just to clarify, this is something that occurs with both the trackpad and external mice, even when disabling the trackpad?

I have a Dell Computer With Windows XP Media edition suddenly my pointer only wobbles when I move the mouse it does not move accross the screen. I tried a diferent mouse, same thing.
If I start the computer in Safe Mode everything works fine. I have tried a repair with Windows, no help. I have removed many recently installed programmes, no help. I have Norton 360 this will not operate in safe mode, and to use Norton Virus scan you need to be able to use the internet, I can't do this in safe mode, I tried to reinstall the Broadband Software in safe mode to no avail.
As you can see I've triued a few things but I am at a loss.

Same problem with mousepad and an external mouse will probably be a hardware problem on the motherboard.

At first the pointer on my XP SP3 desktop started jumping all over the screen. I took my ps2 mouse apart and cleaned it. No change. Then I tried using a usb mouse from my laptop and got an error msg that said the device can't be installed because it is either not digitally signed or not signed in the appropriate manner. I purchased a new usb mouse and got the same error msg. Now the pointer is frozen and even the arrow keys won't move it. I have to shut down the pc using a hard shut down.
Any suggestions?

A:stuck pointer

When you get the Not Digitally Signed message just click OK you are aware. This just means the hardware vendor did not pay Microsoft to sign there driver. It should not cause a problem.
Pull the USB mouse out of the computer and restart in Safe Mode with Networking (Press F8 at Bootup) Once the computer restarts plug in the USB mouse to the Back USB port of the computer not the front or through a hub as these ports are weaker. If you get the Not Digitally Signed agree. And it should load up. You may need to go to the manufacturers support/download drivers site and download an updated driver for the mouse.

I have looked all over and do not see a solution to my problem. My mouse pointer has a mind of it's own even when typing. Also, I have the pointer set to not show when typing but it still sets on where I am typing especially in Facebook it has a box where I am typing. I have set the sensitivity way down on the touch pad and am at a loss as what to do. Sometimes when in Microsoft Explorer and moving the mouse an object or folder is selected and moved on it's own. I do not see anything here in reference to my problem. Even when typing the cursor moves randomly into another area and adds the typed letters there. I use the touch pad only and NO external mouse. hello have you tried

Plugging the mouse into a different USB port?
Replacing the mouse?

Checking the manufacturer's site for software for the mouse and installing it?

If you remove the mouse from the USB port, does the touchpad work correctly? If so, the mouse or the port are probably faulty.

This is driving me nuts. when i first got this laptop, the mouse starts blinking the moment the computer starts. its very annoying as its makes the laptop work so much more slower and when i was playing a online game, it kept on taking screenshots! on the first 2 months, i was fine with it as once i press a key on the keyboard, it stops until the laptop is restarted. but now its a whole lot worst. even if i press a key in the keyboard, it stops for only a few seconds before its starts to blink like 5 times per sec. i searched the internet and i saw many people with the same problem but normally its either with blank screen, loading pointers blinking or when they open an item. mine does not show a loading sign at all. Tell me any suggestions of fixing it?

Hello, I have Win7 for about a year now and I really didn't have any problems up until a few months ago. My mouse pointer would start refreshing/flickering every 5 minutes or so and it would slow down anything I was watching or playing at the time. It doesn't really bother me when I watch movies because I can just shake the mouse and it would stop but when I play games I can't do anything about it and so I can't really play any games. I asked my repair man, he also has Win7 but he didn't know how to fix it. Is there a way to fix this problem?

A:Mouse Pointer

Maybe new mouse
Maybe the mouse driver in device manager. Go to device manger and take a look.
Update driver and look for yellow warning markers.

I'm not really sure what you are referring to. Perhaps the text select pointer has changed.

Open the Mouse applet in the Control Panel, select the "pointers" tab and see if what you are referring to is among the current default pointers -- these can be changed using the browse to "cursors" folder where many more selections are possible.

The pointer is causing problems. When it is at rest, it shows a box with words in it but not words about that which it is pointing at but the previous article that I had clicked on. eg. if I leave my pointer outside this typing box it reads "post new thread" and if I put the pointer inside this typing box it changes to a bar and says "post new thread". The message quite often obscures whatever it happens to cover. How can I make it operate normally so that the message explains what I am actually pointing at?

Please help! I have a Dell Inspiron 8200 loaded with XP(sp2). I have the following programs loaded to help with virus and malware. AD-AwareSE, SpybotS&D, Spywareblaster, AVGFree, Ewido Security Suite and Windows Defender. The problem I'm having is the pointer will move either to the lower left (start button) of the screen or the top right corner of the screen. Once there I will try to move it but the pointer acts as if it's being magnatized there. I'll move it and it wants to go back or stick there. Some times I can't tell where the pointer is and moving the mouse or tapping the pad will not do anything. Only after doing this for some time will the pointer reveal itself.
I have ran virus tests and have found nothing. I have looked for installed programs in the add programs section and found nothing strange. Drivers are used to help your computer communicate with a specific piece of hardware, and if the driver is flawed or outdate (both very common), the device will either not work properly, or will cause another device not to work properly. Contact the manufacturers of the various devices in your system for their most recent drivers; most are available for free download. Newer drivers can also improve performance and add new features. This is especially true of video drivers; new versions can improve speed and can increase the maximum resolution and color depth of your display. In fact, most visual problems (flicker, mouse cursor problems, and even errant font behavior) can be attributed to buggy video drivers. Although it's a good policy to check with your manufacturer for the most recent drivers on a regular basis, you should only do so if you have the time to spend on it (new drivers may introduce new problems, as well). HI,I have a problem that just started yesterday,my pointer started blinking along with a hour glass symbol now all i have blinking is the hour glass symbol and i
have no idea how to stop it any ideas as to why this even started, thanks

A:mouse pointer

Hi,
The hour glass symbol ususlly means that the CPU is busy. Have you opened task manager -> processes to see what's running that needs your resources? Do you have a good, current security program installed and running?

I was working on my desktop earlier, when suddenly my mouse pointer/cursor went all the way up to the top of the screen, and wouldn't come down. It would move from left to right, but not down. After several minutes of trying to free it, I had to restart windows(w-on/off button). Same thing again. Not knowing anything else to do, I tried the one thing I always use when my comp. seems to be acting a little strange, System Restore. _

Went back one day.Well, it did free the cursor/pointer. But once it sat for a couple of seconds it would start to shake up, and down slightly, and then make it's way back up to the top of the screen. I was able to bring it back down though.

Went back a second day in Sys. Res. Improved it slightly, but if I leave the cursor still, it would slowly work it's way back up to the top of the screen.

As I'm typing in the thread submit box know, sometimes it(cursor) will jump up to the top of the screen, either in 1 big jump, or a couple of smaller ones. Now it's as bad , or worse than earlier.

Anyone have an idea what's going on?
I have a hp pavilion 1.2 celeron running windows xp home. Both the mouse, and keyboard are hp also(came with comp.) Had all for over a year. Never changed anything, or had any problems until now.

I have tried cleaning my mouse already. Also checked the device manager, it said keyboard, and mouse were functioning properly.

I just purchased a new HP computer with Windows 7 Pro running 64-bit. I also purchased HP's 25" widescreen monitor. It is beautiful. One could not ask for a more perfect viewing experience with an OS like Win7Pro as seen through this monitor. However, I have an unexpected problem. One I clearly did not anticipate.

My old monitor was a 20" square Dell UltraSharp that I bought in 2003. While the new HP monitor allows you to see everything since there is so much space, I did not anticipate the extra stress on my wrist, forearm, upper arm, and shoulder from having to move the mouse and pointer around so much. The extra 5" makes a huge difference.

These are the adjustments I have made so far followed by what I have heard might be available. Under the Control Panel section for Mouse, I have changed the Motion to the fastest setting possible. I have also checked the Snap To button so that the pointer will automatically move to the default button in a dialog box.

Staying within the Control Panel, I then went to the Ease of Access Center. There I chose Make the Mouse Easier to Use and then I clicked on Set Up Mouse Keys. There, under Pointer Speed I set Top Speed to High and Acceleration to Fast.

So far, none of these changes are having much of an impact. When I went back to my old monitor for a few days, the stress on my arm subsided but the viewing experience was just not he same. I am back to my new monitor now and, once again, my arm is hurting.

If it is a mouse with the ball on the bottom, have you taken the ball out and cleaned the ball and rollers inside? If not, use a set of tweasers to remove any hair, lint or other build up on the rollers and wipe down the ball to remove anything else. If you have done that already or it is a different type of mouse, post back with more information such as brand/model etc... You may need to remove and reinstall the drivers for the mouse. Please let us know if it does the jerky movements all the time or just in certain programs and also if it has done this all the time or just started.

how do i turn this option off?

p.s.many people that i know hate window 7 because of that pointer with a atitude probleme

A:mouse pointer

Hello!

Assuming you are using a touchpad, the scroll bar appears at the right zone of your touchpad to use that as a scroll bar. You can turn that off by going to "Configuration Panel" --> "Mouse" --> "Hardware/Device Settings" (assuming you have a Synaptics touchpad. Then go to scrolling zones.

Could you please provide us more info about your PC? Here is how:

---------------------------------------------
UPDATE YOUR SEVENFORUMS SYSTEM SPECS
Go to your "User CP" (3rd item in the top menu bar)

In the left-hand column, under Your Profile, click "Edit System Spec".
Use Speccy - System Information - Free Download
and/or SIW to gather info for filling in the blanks.

"system manufacturer” block : please add if it is a Desktop or Laptop

Provide full windows version info, such as provided by Speccy:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader, Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor

Scroll down and click on the SAVE CHANGES button.
---------------------------------------------

If you are using a desktop this is a whole other story.

I would also move this post to the "general questions" forum since this is a hardware issue and has nothing to do with theming/customization.

When we go into the control panel to pick a different theme, there is only one selection and it would not work. We have the pcs loaded with WIN NT I think there is a way to change the pointer by going into the Internet and downloading one but I don't know how. Any suggestions?

Hi all,

I have talked to numerous people about this one! I do Window's and Norton updates regularly. And this darn POINTER! will move all by itself. I know it sounds stange! The remarkable thing is... I have done about 3 reinstalls of Windows XP Home.

No one seems to have any idea what is causing this. I guess it doesn't hurt anything, but it sure is spooky! The pointer will move, usually an inch or two, always when you don't expect it too! Then it might not move again for a week or sometimes 2 or 3 sometimes.

Appreciate any suggestions, Steve

I recently updated to Windows Internet Explorer 8.
Ever since, my pointer has become HYPER-sensitive....
When I go to click to open something it opens it very fast as soon as the pointer lands on the place to click, even before I have actually clicked.
Then as the pointer wanders past the next thing to click, it opens that one too! OR, I go to delete an email and it deletes a couple more simply because I had dragged the poiter through these other two.
I am dancing all over the place trying to keep up with it!
PLEASE...how do I fix it so that it only "clicks" when I have pressed down once or twice (I am set to once to select and twice to open)?

It has developed a new problem where after the system had dimmed the display due to inactivity, the mouse pointer will not reappear when you resume using it. You can tell that the pointer is there as you can see the pointer is highlighting things when you move the mouse around, but the arrow itself is invisible. The only solution so far is to reboot. Unsure if this is a hardware or a software fault.
Recently the pointer on my laptop has either been freezing, (like lagging but for longer), or it's precision has been way off as it moves around uncontrollably.

I have tried updating the Synaptics Pointing Device drivers but all to no effect.

This problem at the moment seems to be an intermittent one and I can just about live with it but if there is something relatively simple behind this problem, I would rather get it sorted.
Thanks

If it doesn't do it when you use an external mouse, your touchpad is going out to pasture.

A:Getting BSOD reference pointer every now and again :( please help!!

You failed to fill in the System Specs - it can help someone that is trying to help you.

Does the failures only occur when you plug in a USB device? Or just at some point you get the blue screen and Windows does the dump and reboots?

One thought, most motherboards have chipset drivers, and one of the things it does is define the devices on the motherboard including USB. On an install/reinstall the motherboard drivers usually must be installed before installing device drivers or some device drivers cannot be installed or "generic" devices that use the built in Windows drivers such as USB will not work or work correctly.

Another suggestion, with the PC powered off, is to reseat the memory modules and any plug in cards such as Video, and whatever else you have.

I am having trouble with my pointer (on the laptop) I have a brand new HP Compaq Presario CQ60-215DX It runs Windows Vista plus Explorer 7.

My problem is that the laptop mouse has a mind of it's own! When I click on it It may work right and it may not. Sometimes if I click on the side scroll bar one click it will go all the way to the end of the page! Then if I get to moving the mouse around to a lot of different places it seems to just do what it wants to. It will show me a bar of some sort sometimes also. I don;t know what the bar is for or what it does because it doesn't stay on very long, when I move the cursor it goes off again but it looks like a tiny little toggle bar or something. Whatever this is is very annoying...does anyone know what it is and can it be turned off my pointer? I just want my plain old regular pointer!! LOL I went in and checked the pointer settings too and nothing seemed strange I did make sure it was set on default also. Still no change. Thanks for any help on this matter. Dedee

I booted my computer today and found that the mouse behaviour has changed. I have to turn the mouse 90 degrees to the right to move the pointer predictably. I.E. the pointer will move right to left when the mouse is moved up and down and up and down when the mouse is moved left to right. This is extremely annoying. I am unable to find the setting to change the orientation back.

Any suggestions on how to regain mouse control?

I have dual boot Win7-Win10 and until recently I could still boot to a usable Win7, even though the lic registration was canceled presumably due to installing Win10 over the same lic on a different partition. When you do the free upgrade it transfer's the lic from 7 to 10. I only use 7 or trouble shooting problems where I want to make sure it's not a Win10 issue.

Now, when I boot to 7, I have no mouse. The cursor just sits there. Also the up/down/left/right arrows don't work, so can't select the MS key or any key. Pretty hard to do anything when you lose all navigation ability. Reinserting the USB connection and using different ports did nothing, nor did plugging it into the main ps/2 port with an adapter. Also booting to safe mode does not change anything. The USB mouse works just fine with Win10.

Is this Microsoft's way of saying "tsk, tsk, don't use that OS anymore"?

Hi BK and welcome

this one is pretty straight followed. Its your PCTools, specifically PCTCore64.sys. I would uninstall it and see if the problem goes away. You can always re-install it later

I would also run a system file check
start>cmd>right click and run as admin>sfc /scannow

Let us know the results

good luck

Dear Friends:

Sometimes for no apparent reason my mouse pointer disappears. It usually happens on the Internet but once I go off it continues off line as well. Itís really weird, you can see the mouse pointer and then as you pass over certain areas on the page it seems to go behind certain things on the page and then come out on the other side of them. An example is when youíre on a site and go to click on a link of some kind as soon as the pointer gets to it, it disappears and if you continue to move it, it come out on the other side. I also notice that if I go to write on a word document, the pointer is only seen on the tool bars and totally disappears on the page. Please help me if you can, it drives me crazy. The only thing I can do is turn off the computer, turn it back on and work until it decides to do it again.
God Bless

Uncle Bob

A:Mouse Pointer Disappears

Hi unclebob, Welcome to TSG !!
What Operating System are you using?
Try going to start, settings, controlpanel. Click on the Mouse applet. Go to pointer settings. Move the slider to the left one notch at a time to see if that works. Hit apply after each time. Try Unchecking pointer trails.

Ever since my work computer was updated to Windows 7, many of the mouse pointer icons include this thing to the left that I think looks like an old fashioned telephone receiver (see attached image file). It drives me mad, as I find it disorienting. I cannot find anyway of removing it through the mouse customization settings. I've become obsessed with finding out how to get rid of it.

Another interesting point is that I don't have this problem on my home version of Windows 7.

Thanks!

hi folks...today the mouse pointer (eraser head type) on my ibm thinkpad decided not to work. After the computer boots up, the mouse pointer is stuck at the bottom of the screen. I can move the pointer anywhere on the screen, but it is so jumpy I cannot select anything. Then when I let go, the pointer makes a jumpy dive for the bottom of the screen. I've tried contr alt del to turn off other programs and restarted it several times and nothing seems to fix it. A couple times after a reset, the pointer would be at the top of the screen instead of the bottom, with the same problem. Mostly it likes the bottom of the screen. Also, I noticed that once it gets to the bottom of the screen it continues to move around a tiny bit...enough so that the screen saver never comes on...any suggestions????

Hi Mike ... and welcome to the TSG
I would start by downloading and installing the lastest drivers for the touch pad and see if that fix your problem.
