y510p keyboard eating **bleep**

Q: y510p keyboard eating **bleep**

Hi all, Last night, my keyboard suddenly decided it didn't want to work. The following keys rarely work (occasionally after hitting them a gazillion times): 0 (wow it worked just now), p (using on screen keyboard, now 0 is not working so I need onscreen to close these parentheses), colon/semicolon key, and slash/question mark key. I really hoe this is not a hardware issue as this comuter isnt even 2 years old yet, and having a functioning keyboard is kind of essential. Esecially when some of the affected keys are in your assword... Not sure if the 4 affected keys are connected hysically and thats why theyre acting u together, or if this could have something to do with the fact that the issues arose immediately after some Windows udates. I would immensely areciate any hel ! Thank you!

I seem to be constantly frustrated nowadays by a computer that truly is best described as being of the bleeping variety. I'm on Windows 7 Home Premium, and after all the problems experienced with Vista, I had thought things would improve. Silly me.

For reasons beyond me, it won't, or can't, do what I'd expect it to. I've run chkdisc (no errors found) and SFC (errors found, all corrected) and various malware / virus scans (no infections, no threats.) Yet simple ordinary routine tasks continue to be impossible, as per this list:

1 System Restore. I can set new restore points to my heart's content but will System restore ever find them? Nope. Never. I've tried repeatedly to go back to an earlier restore point but on each occasion am greeted with the message: "System restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed. Details: System restore failed to extract the original copy of the directory from the restore point. Source: %SystemRoot%\registration. destination: ComPlus Staging."

2 Windows Repair Disc: Another supposedly simple Windows 7 task. But not for me. Every time I try to create it, the message is: Microsoft Windows Repair Disc has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

3 System Maintenance. An unexpected error occurred while troubleshooting. The troubleshooting wizard can't continue. Packag... Read more

A:y510p - keyboard problem

Hi Imjustaguy ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Better to isolate hardware issue from software is to make the computer boot on a rescue media and try typing from it . Using an external USB keyboard and onscreen keyboard further isolate probability of a bad keyboard specially if same thing fails in BIOS (like test typing the affected letter in security password  but NOT to save it , for testing only) .

Update us how it goes.

Hello, I bought a Y510P (SLI version) 2,5 years ago (yes, warranty is now expired) and my keyboard stopped working. Two rows of the keyboard didn't respond and after resetting and updating my laptop, contacting lenovo and I had to reset and update another time the problem was still there. Lenovo recommended a repair for my laptop. I declined it because I wanted to see if there were faster/cheaper/better options near my location. Next I searched for a local fast and cheap repair center to repair my laptop because my warranty was over so I had to pay anyway. I found one, send my laptop and a while later they told me it was the keyboard controller chip on the motherboard that was faulty. To repair that they had to replace the whole motherboard. Cost? Around 60% of my original purchase price. Way to much for a student. Went to Lenovo again with this information but of course they couldn't tell me more without a diagnose from their own but I don't want to spend another ?50 on a diagnose. This joke costs me a lot for just the diagnose, let alone the repair.  So my question, does anyone know something about these laptops and do you know if it could be this chip and can it be repaired/replaced instead of a whole motherboard? And, does anybody has experience with the cost of replacing a motherboard with Lenovo? Price in the Lenovo shop for a laptop is just over ?300,- and I don't want to get another offer to repair my laptop voor ?700.  It's sad... Read more

I'm quite frustrated with a redirect problem I'm having. If I do a google search, then click on the result it goes elsewhere. If I try to use a browser (ie, or firefox) to go to a particular url, again--it's a redirect. I've downloaded and run 4 or 5 programs to resolve it, but none get rid of the problem--including Norton, Pareto, xdelbox, and hijack this. Why does Norton make so much $money$ if it cannot deal with this?Anyway, I've followed all the instructions on this site. The dds.txt file is below; attach.txt and ark.txt are attached... I found this thing called "START PAGE"

I thought it was to protect XP, but as i looked at it, it seems to be some sort of, well i am just not sure, they are saying they do all these things that will make me surf safer but none of it seems to protect my computer, it all seems to be about blanking out your sulf history (which i think fire fox does anyway) with a proxy ?

what i like is the darn controls are so simple, like it does not bounce me in and out of family search mode all the time, plus the image page is organized instead of a over load of pictures, which is great if you are a bird watcher, cause the pics are more distinct if you use their Black back ground page.

they say they don't sell my sulf history which can't be worth much any way, as i buy almost nothing on the net, my main interest being, old movies bio's free programs, u tube music down loads etc.

it seems like cheese cake for paranoids

plus they have a "secure socket" any body know what that is.

A:Some Bad bleep Going On

Alrighty. I found out what was going on. I'll explain what happened incase this happens to anyone else. Spybot S&D < 1.5 only had about 35000 things to immunize, and was not as wide spread as 1.5. 1.5 Added a bleep-ton of sites to my hostfile and used my local IP to redirect my computer to my own computer if It attempted to connect to those sites. That drove SpySweeper NUTS. Somehow it was reading those sites in the hostfile as attempts to connect to the internet.

I realized this when it was still spamming the warnings when not connected to the internet and noticed my hostile was Massive.

I deleted everything but my 'localhost' out of my hostfile, and not had one issue since then. Sorry if anyone read my HJT log, I had originally posted this in the AV/Spyware programs thread but it was moved to HJT Misplaced Logs.
My fix seems to have worked. Hopefully I didn't do something dumb
I would really like to upgrade to 1.5 Spybot..But apparently Spysweeper will have issues, anyone got an ideas?

Recently I booted my computer and the monitor would not display. I cleaned the entire unit. I hooked the PC to a different monitor, and still nothing. I replaced the video card and still nothing. I replaced the CMOS battery and still nothing. The light on the motherboard is green, I am sure that all the cables and components works correctly. I am unable to use the monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers connected to the monitor. What could be the problem? Is there a simple or any solution that does not involve buying a new computer?

Hi Jack and welcome to BC

What is your operating system? If you are using XP you need to disable system restore, do a scan with McAfee, AdAware and Spybot S&D and reenable system restore again.

Perhaps post your HiJack log in the HiJack forum and let the experts have a look.

We are having an explosion of weird viruses here on this board and many of them are not getting solved.

I know how frustrating it is when your computer isn't working properly. Let me assure you that your topic here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/571137/desperate-help-needed-true-professional-will-paydonate-well/ isn't lost, forgotten, or ignored. We work with hundreds of logs every day, so we have devised a means of seeing only those topics that don't have responses yet. At the moment, we have nearly 30 unanswered topics, the oldest dated March 20 at 2:22 p.m. Eastern Daylight Savings time in the U.S.A. Your log topic is dated March 24 at 3:44 a.m. using the same time zone. Our volunteer MRT team members have various levels of expertise and training, so while we try to take the oldest DDS/HJT logs, it is often the skill level of the particular helper and sometimes the operating system that dictates which logs get selected first. Some infections are more complicated than others and require a higher skill level to remove. Without that skill level attempted removal could result in disastrous results. In other instances, the helper may not be familiar with the operating system that you are using, since they use another. In either case, neither of us would want someone to assist you who is not familiar with your issue and attempt to fix it.Please be patient. It may take several days to get a response but your log will be reviewed and answered as soon as possible. My problem is simple to explain, not to sure about repairing. I went to shut it down and it rebooted. Thinking I may have, click reboot I allow the computer to completely reboot and go through the process of shutting down again, being sure to click "Shut down"
The computer again reboots.
I have run scans with Malwarebytes and Superantispyware and both shows that the computer is clean.

The recovery information is contained on a partition on the hard drive. Recovery discs are necessary in case the recovery partition is not functioning properly. If your computer originally came with Windows 7 or Vista, turn on the computer and repeatedly press F11 to access the recovery information on the hard drive. If your computer originally came with Windows XP or earlier, press F10 to enter recovery. For more information about System Recovery, see one of the following HP Support documents: Performing an HP System Recovery in Windows 7 Performing an HP System Recovery in Windows Vista Performing an HP System Recovery in Windows XP It is strongly recommended that you create a recovery disc set soon after acquiring your computer. If recovery discs are not created and the recovery partition is damaged or erased, you will need to find a set of recovery discs that matches your model number from the Internet or install a new operating system." Ok, i booted up my computer today, and there is absolutely no sound. Yesterday it was working fine, playing dings, music, videos, bleeps, boops, rings, etc.... but now there's nothing.

I know it's not my speakers, since i have plugged some headphones into the jack and there's no sound coming out of their either....

I've seen other topics that say an infection has caused the loss of sound, or to restore/re-run the sound setup files for the cards. I went to the program files for my sound manager "Avance AV'97" card, but there are no files there....

How would i go about re-running or re-setting-up the sound card?

Computer won't boot. I switch it on, everything internally comes on (case fans, gfx card fans, cd drive, hard disk) but the mouse and keyboard are showing no lights. The monitor remains on standby. There is no bleep on startup. I removed the memory, still no bleep. I've cleared the CMOS (or at least i've used the jumper the manual stated to use to achieve this). The computer is almost 3 years old and gets a lot of use, typically 6 hours a day.

Try entering the Bios Setup if you are able to get in, turn on POST/ or turn off fast boot. If you are not able to enter Bios setup its a hardware problem like motherboard or other stuff.

Thanks for the help. I don't like the insinuation of me trying to do something dis-honest. I am totally comp. illiterate, wouldn't know how to use my PC for crime. I will leave this place to all you losers who stare at your screen all day long. BLEEP YOU ALL!

A:bleep bleepingcomputer...???

No one insinuated you are being dishonest.

I am sorry but it is against the policy of BleepingComputer to provide information on methods to reset or bypass the Administrator password. Though your question is most likely legitimate, there are others who may read this topic and use the information for less savory reasons. It is for these reasons we do not provide this type of information.

I've just tried to turn on my computer and all I get is a continuous bleep with the screen staying in standby.
The computer is about 3 years old and has generally been unplugged when not in use. Could it be that the battery has finally died?
I've got quite alot of information on the hardrive across a few users. If I can't fix the desktop how could I get this information back?
I've never tried to modify any computer hardware so I'm not really fluent technical vocab. However I do pic things up quite quickly and I'm wanting to try to become more confident inside a computer.
Any assistance would be fantastic.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to bleep out a word in a downloaded song? It is in media player at this time but when I went to 'help' files --nothing there.

BTW, I did legally download this and pay for it at Walmart's download site. I downloaded it for my granddaughter without knowing that there is one nasty word in it.

hi,Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exehttp://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exeSave the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Okay, here's the deal.
I recently bought a ATI Radeon HD 5750 and 2 LCD Monitors (ASUS VH222T).
Then i thought, hey, what's this Eyefinity thing on the box? so here's what happened:
step 1) went and bought a displayport to HDMI Adapter (passive)
result: didn't work. more research on the internet turned up several same results.

step 2) ordered a DisplayPort to VGA (passive) adapter off eBay.
result: didn't work EITHER! more research on the internet. this is where it gets interesting (for need of a better word). Some people report that using a passive DP > VGA Adapter worked for them.

So i found a 19" LCD Monitor as well, and i want to connect it to my PC so i can use 3 monitors as an extended desktop (i think that's possible?). but whatever i try, i can't get it to work, unless i plug it into one of the DVI-D ports, both of which are taken by the Asus Monitors. my only option (since the HDMI is shared with one of the DVI Monitors) is to use DisplayPort.

And as far as i'm concerned, Active DP > VGA/DVI/HDMI adapters are EXPENSIVE!

so i have two options:
1) somehow get the DisplayPort > VGA Adapter combo working
2) can someone recommend a good monitor that has a displayport input (minimum) for under AUD$200?

As i'm not using this for eyefinity, i'm assuming that this kind of graphics card will allow me to run 3 different monitors seperately.

This is an unusually long post for me

any ideas?

Yeah, so my uncle was trying to "fix" our computer, (despite the fact that it was running fine) and he downloaded something, or did something and now it's gone to hell. I have tons of popups every few seconds, (nude ones, which is especially troubling since I have a 7 year old sister that uses this computer), my background has been changed to something telling me about a fatal error in IE, and there is a program on my computer called "The ABI network, A division of Direct Revenue". Now, this ABI thing is the major problem. The only way It claims I can get rid of it, is if I download and uninstaller, from a site they linked me to. No thanks. I tried running spybot but it crashes. I downloaded the yahoo toolbar, but it still can't clear out this ABI network bullbleep, or some of the other spyware on here. So, in me posting this HJT log, Im hoping you guys can give me some valuable insight on what I should delete, etc. Help is very much appreciated.Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1Scan saved at 11:10:17 AM, on 06/18/2005Platform: Windows XP SP1 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106)Running processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\WINDOWS\S... I'm not trying to be cute when I say it that way, it's just that I have no other explanation for it's behavior right now!

I have an MSI K8MM3-VH motherboard, VIA chipset, an AMD Athlon XP x64 2.2 GHz processor, 2 GB's Kingston DDR400 RAM, an NVIdia GeForce 7600 256 MB AGP video card, a Creative Audigy SE PCI sound card, two Seagate 80 GB hard drives, a Thermaltake 430 watt power supply. I run Vista Basic x64 with Firefox on a cable connection.

Like many setups I read about, my system ran fine at first, but over time, started getting sluggish and unresponsive. Now before I go on, I should mention that, when I was getting ready to buy this motherboard, I could not get MSI to confirm whether it would work on Vista x64 or not.

Each time I called, one technician said it would work on Vista, another one said it wouldn't. Another technician even said it would work on Vista x32, but not x64. So I've got that going against me. I have the x64 VIA chipset drivers installed along with all of my Windows patches including SP1.

I've been running ESET Smart Security along with a few other antispyware apps and everything is up to date. I have had a few problems in the past with spyware, so much so that it forced me to perform a recovery of my C drive by using Acronis True Image, so that might have something to do with what I have heard described as a lack of integrity with my system files.

However, everything has gotten slowwwwwww! And from the time I ... Read more

A:System running like (bleep)!

Slowness is usually a result of infections or too many programs running.

You might try scans with some other tools. Though a single anti-virus is enough, malware needs several scanners to detect it all.

Take a look at your startup items, Disable those that don't need to be running.

And run a chkdsk /f on all drives, even if the read-only scan comes back clean. File system problems can slow things dramatically.

Watch your Task Manager. See what is using all the CPU by clicking the CPU column header twice. Also, enable the CPU Time column. That can show you what has been using the CPU when you weren't watching it.

If you have Vista installed and it was working all right, I doubt that the x64 question is an issue at all.

A while ago, my disc drive for my laptop was making a loud noise whenever I place a DVD in. Sometimes the disc would work, sometimes it won't I'm not sure how that happened. The only I recalled that may be the case was when I uninstall the trial version of NTI Media Maker Express Overview. Could that be the reason it's acting like that, or is it just because the Drive is acting up due to age?

Hiya everyone.

I remember that i have told my mate on that netbook problem when i let computer start up without pressing any button and it sound like long bleep (just like alarm) and i usually press F8 when Acer appear on netbook and usually take me to boot menu then resume to normal activities.

Well, I think it wasnt HDD failure as my mate told me because when i log in to windows, I see all selection of icons moving around and i just found out that Tab button sort of glitch (due accidently to spill tea over it before)

So i tried to press Tab when booting up and laptop boots up at normal nothing bleep and just carry on to normal.

So how can i fix glitch tab key? How to clean just one key properly? Is it possible to disable just tab key? (perm)

Hi I am new to this forum and wonder if someone could give me some help please.

My computer is slow to start up. Can’t update IE8. when I do it won’t connect to the internet. some sites get “Script on page making it run slowly” . Also other problems. I regularly run Malewarebytes.

I have run the Bleepingcomputer adware remover, which shows 94 registry entries for possible deletion.
Also Hitman pro, which showed 194 references to Yahoo Toolbar, 1 to Softonic and 50 Tracking Cookies with option to Delete. Hitman said no threats but 251 traces. Whatever that means. And 3 suspicious but said to ignore.

I have been told to delete everything that comes up on these 2 programs but there seems to be a lot to delete and they look like they belong to programs I use. I don’t know what to keep or delete.

For example Bleepingcomp shows Under Services and under Files alot of AVG Secure Search and AVG Security Toolbar. references also Yahoo Companion

Under Regristry - here are a few examples, some look as though they belong to programs whilst others I have no idea what they are.
AVG Secure Search HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Settings\{EF99

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\AppID\{1FDFF \ScriptHelper.EXE \ViProtocol.DLL

\Classes\protector_dll.protector \TypeLib\ \ViProtocol.ViProtocolOLE

Thanks for reply

Sorry what does BHO stand for?

I have tried several times to update IE8 but new versions 9, 10 and 11 won't connect to the internet and I have to uninstall.

Yahoo came with BT Broadband
Recently reinstalled AVG, can't remember where from

At startup, I have already stopped all programs at startup that I don?t think I need immediately ie camera, printer, Quicktime, Adobe etc

There are 2 unknown ones
ISUSPM Startup Unknown HKCU Microsoft
Vprotect App Unknown HKLM Microsoft which I have left on for now.

These are some of the files that come up on Bleepingcomputer that are suggested may be deleted.
I keep deleting iwin games but it keeps coming back despite that all of my games have somehow been uninstalled somewhere along the way.

Hi all, my first visit to these forums...will definitely be bookmarking them!

Ok, I attempted to install some new RAM on my friends PC tonight. The new (additional) RAM was bought from Crucial via their system checker so i know it is compatable. I have installed RAM successfully before.

However, After installing the RAM and rebooting i get the dreaded '3 beeps' from the mobo telling me ' Base 64 K memory failure'. Can't read the memory right? Ok, I thought, i'll take the new stick out (After ensuring it was seated properly and all internal cables attached ok). Still get the 3 beeps - even though the setup is now as it was originally when working fine....... Went on to try all possible configurations of one or both RAMS in either 0 or 1 positions...all results the same - 3 beeps!

Anyway, phoned crucial - they suggested resetting the CMOS by removing the battery for 20 minutes...Did this - no change.

So now I'm thinking 'is the memory screwed?' Quick drive home to get my pc later i am trying my compatable memory in his system...still 3 beeps. I try his memory in my system...everything fine......

So now the suspicion lies with the motherboard right? Is there anything that could potentially happen to the mobo whilst installing RAM? (And yes, i was earthed and touching the inside of the case etc). Is there another reason that the mobo would suddenly stop reading RAM? Is there anything i can do about it?

FYI info the system is an E... Read more

Hi, thanks for reading this.My computer got infected overnight, and when I came this morning to use it, my younger brother was trying to play a game. He told me that he was getting pop ups and that a 'program' was telling him to run a scan for protection. He said he got tired of receiving the message and closing it to have it back again a few moments later that he ran the 'scan'. When he told me what happened.. I expected the worst, because I know that I didn't install that particular program. So I saw the desktop and it had a few windows open, I tried running Malwarebytes and I couldn't, everything was getting frozen and it wouldn't open, so I thought I would restart the computer in safe mode but it didn't work. The computer now will not let me go in at all. Neither in safe mode, or last configuration work.I tried to follow the steps of this site, http://thinkinginpixels.com/quick-fixes/fi...onlog-off-loop/ because I had a similar problem a while back and this got it fixed, but this time it didn't work as expected. The scanner (Spybot S&D) that is included in the disk I make with the steps of the site, only got rid of a couple of things, and I still cant log in. Safe mode is not working, but at least I was able to do get a Hijackthis log with the automated help of the disk from that site.If only I could use the Hijackthis from the disk it would be better, but because it's automated, it won't let me use the program completely, I can only scan and save the log. Alright.

I've got an old Dell Dimension B110 on my hands. Running XP 32-bit... a friend's unit. IE began running slow as hell, so she took it to have it "cleaned" according to what she told me, they ran some sort of wipe (unit only has 40k or so files on it now). However, the sluggishness persists. It takes several minutes to run a simple Google search.

I ran both Malwarebytes and MS Security Essentials (after having manually installed them both via USB), each to no avail. I also snooped around in her temp files on IE, and I found that she had a metric bleep ton of website certificates from all over the damn globe. She's used this unit to pirate things before, claiming that she only used Pirate Bay, but she must've done something else to this unit to have authorized so many certificates. I'd have a little more information on her web browsing habits, but she's beyond computer illiterate: attempting to ask her computer-related questions is like pulling teeth.

I can't for the life of me figure out what's bogging this thing down. Any help with this is appreciated.

Hello. Thank you - first of all - for helping people with their computers. I'm 99% sure I have a version of the Recycler Virus. The first thing I noticed was that I was no longer the administrator of my own computer - someone else does. I've tried to delete the autorun.inf files via setting recycle bin to automatically dump, scanning and trying to destroy via malware bytes, spybot, super-anti-spyware, and performed at least 10 scans, etc. I tried to modify my registry using del /a:rhs c:autorun.inf, but my computer says I don't have access to hiberfil.sys, but I can SEE the autorun.inf file in my in my app data/local/temp/{9EAB...} file folder, which I'm fairly certain is not - in fact - mine. Lots of other weird things - no idea - but something is very strange. Way above my head - please help.

Again - I read forums, but I am still afraid I've made an error. Please let me know if I need to something else.

Hi,
I have a P5N -E SLI motherboard and a Q6600 Quad processor.

The fan onto of the processor was making a noise for months and today i decided to try and fix it myself by reseating the processor fan.

It came off ok, but trying to put it back on was a nightmare. After 10 minutes struggling on my own i asked for help and both of us again struggled. Eventually we found on two of the four plastic clips had bent backwards and couldnt be pushed into the holes.

Two of the plastic bits were put back correctly and locked, so couldnt be moved. But two of the clips were not correctly locked due to the plastic being bent. The fan is flat and level and i turned the computer the right way up to test it.

Initially it turned on, made the horrible noise again, and then turned itself off after the POST beep. Now it doesnt make the horrible noise but still powers off after the initial POST beep. However the noise usually stopped after a few restarts so i doubt i have fixed the noise problem.

I think because the fan is not correctly seated the heat from the processor is getting to much and making the computer turn off, but im not quite sure.

I am going to try and fix it somehow, or buy a new heatsink/fan for the processor if it still doesnt turn on. Im not quite sure what to buy as i dont know much about hardware.

Anyone got anything i can try to fix the plastic clips?

Symantec Realtime Protection popup out of the blue and warned me about "figaro" infection, shortly after that red shield with a cross appeared on the taskbar and warned me about my PC being infected, I had this problem in the past but was resolved.
A dialog box appeared later and started to count down to install antispyware 2010 periodically, managed to close it a few times.

Cleaned it with SpyBot, but came back every time I log out and back in.
In a re-scan with spybot, the PC was really slow and I didn't stop the dialogbox when the countdown happens as I wasn't infront of the PC when scanning happened, malware proceeded to instal antispyware 2010, and shortly after, bleep.exe was reported by Symantec Realtime Protection. Windows also started reporting missing crucial files and asked for windows installation disc to be in the drive to restore crucial files. Did that, carried on to finish the scan and problem still exist after re-login.

Hi my mouse keeps on stalling with a bleep and a moment later starts with a bleep. This happens mainly in my e-mail client (eMclient) when using the mouse a lot. But it really shows up when I play Microsoft Spider solitaire. It is about every other move and eventually the hint app stops working and I cannot get out of the programme when I want to,I have to use Task Manager but playing the cards still works. I can use the PC but it becomes very irritating.

I was told it could be USB probs , I am using usb mouse and keyboard but I checked the Device Manager but there is no problems shown there

I would appreciate any help with this, in simple language as I am not high on tech work.

Thanks Hugh

What is the exact make and model of the PC? The beeps you are hearing are probably BIOS beep codes which provide information about what is wrong. However, different machines use different BIOS and these, in turn, have different beep codes.

Just realized that when we have info re: say a new type of rootkit malware, should we post all the details of which we are aware (don't mean logs, I mean firsthand, generalized observations)?

Upside is obviously helping others in detection, downside is I'll wager the miscreants are also reading these posts and can use that info to modify and improve code. Not sure how you would like us to proceed when faced with such a situation. Pls let me know.

A:General Bleep Policy Question on Posting Info on Rootkits

You can post information you have read and would like to start a discussion about, links to technical articles and white papers, encounters with rootkits you experienced, report a possible new rootkit, ask questions about rootkits, etc. What you cannot post is recommendation or instructions to run advanced ARK tools for removal. We have a Malware Response Team (and qualified Mods, Admin) who handle that. Please read Rootkit Removal in AII.

Equipment
ASUS H81M-C MOBO, CORSAIR XMS3 4GB RAM 1600MHZ, INTEL G3258 1150 CHIPSET, 120GB SSD, BE QUIET 300W PSU

notes
no error bleeps on boot
no signal detected on screen
cannot access bios
reset CMOS - no success
moved all parts over to gigabyte mobo and all works well.
removed RAM from board and booted but no error codes from this either??

Whats frustrating is that I returned the mobo to the buyer who tested and showed as working correctly.??

Im thinking it maybe a RAM issue?
Does anyone have more experience with the ASUS mobos? Are they funny on RAM types/spec (checked QVL and Corsair RAM that i have picked is not showing)

I knew i should have stayed with Gigabyte

any thoughts/comments welcomed

thanks for viewing

I just can't not believe how badly Microsoft screwed this operating system up..

The search function is useless.  Even after modifying the indexing options and giving it an hour to update it doesn't find files correctly. Rebooting did nothing.

I tried using the search function built into the file explorer too and that doesn't work either.   Even when I'm inside the directory with the files I want, it doesn't see them.
What is the point of adding this useless feature if it never works?
And all this after I was forced to reinstall Windows 8.1 Pro when it completely locked me out of my C: drive and no one in this "MICROSOFT" forum could help.

I'm about one more problem away from re-installing window's XP or changing over to another operating system all together.  Macs don't have these problems..   maybe Linux or some other option.

A:Overclocking GPU and CPU in y510p

If you use the Intel Xtreme Tuning utility you can adjust the multipliers but that is all. The CPU already runs way to hot (and throttles as a result) so overclocking it will only make it worse. I did the opposite and undervolted mine so not only does it run cooler but it doesn't throttle anymore so it actually runs faster then a stock one.

Found a possible fix (workaraound) of the famous screen flicker problem. I've tried all of the proposed fixes found anywhere on the web and nothing worked for more than 5 minutes. I also sent it to be serviced, came back even worse. The screen would go crazy when showing high contrast images with a lot of black. The flicker was most prominent when testing the pixel-walk(inversion) on this website:http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/inversion.phpIf you have the same problem, try applying pressure on the LCD frame in one of the corners. In my case the flicker went away. I put a piece of fabric between the plastic and the metal LCD frame and after some fiddling I managed to find a sweet spot with no flicker. My laptop is y510p with 755M SLI and FullHD screen.Try at your own risk!Cheers

A:y510p screen flicker FIX!

Ok, I have an update. The flickering can be fixed with a bit of DIY. There's a band cable attaching the display circuit to the metal frame holding the LCD. This band is glued with some sort of conductive glue that goes bad over time, messing up the electronics somehow, I guess preventing the capacitors from discharging properly, dunno.Try and make your own conductive band, I made mine using aluminum tape, it works very well. No flicker noticeable for over a week.Once again, try at your own risk.

Hello there, I have had my IdeaPad Y510p Laptop - 59369999 for 2 years without any problems, until today.  I started watching a video & everything froze for a good 5 minutes.  I held the power button until my laptop shut down, when I turned it on it said "scanning and repairing drive c". It started up normally, I gave it time, moved the mouse once everything had loaded & it froze again. Then the screen went blank with the cursor working, then the cursor dissappeared. Does anyone know of this is a simple fix? Thank you!

A:Y510P Freezing After Start Up

My guess is that the hard drive is dying.  If it will start, try getting a copy of CrystalDiskInfo (free),  Otherwise, see if you can hook up the drive to another machine to test it and to get as much as you can off of it.

Hi,I may be repeating the topic, but recently i had to revert back to Win 8.1, as the Track pad and later on keyboard also stopped working. Further I started to get random BSOD's always  giving new driver errors. So finally switched back to Win 8.1.Does anyone has a workaround for this so that I can upgrade to Win 10, as I think 31 July is the last date  for upgrading to Win 10 from Win 8.1, or stick with Win 8..1.Appreciate any help regarding this.

Hey Guys,  I am lost. I got my new GT750m5, removed the DVD, added the new card and nothing. I tried reinstalling the Nvidia drivers and nothing. IT doesn't even show up in the device manager. I even have the new 170w power adapter plugged in and the power management set to performance. Any ideas?  I also tried uninstalling the Intel display driver, then the Nvidia display driver and then I tried just installing the Nvidia driver (both the provided lenovo Nvidia driver and the newest 331.65). I keep getting errors about needing an intel driver installed first. Suggestions?

I have a Lenovo Y510p. My warranty expired over a year ago, but my screen recently broke. I've tried to repair it myself, but it still won't display properly. Every time I call Lenovo I get a message to "schedule a callback," and every time I go to schedule a callback the web site tells me I'm out of warranty and won't allow me to schedule a callback. Is there a way I can schedule a repair through Lenovo?

Also I was wondering if I can install a M.2 SSD. My laptop is still in warranty, I didn't open it. If yes, is worthy for daily use to sell my Sandisk ssd for a M2 ssd? Thanks!

Hello all and thanks in advance,I am at work right now but will give more info when I can, and forgive me if I put this in the wrong area of the forum. My Y510 is the top model with 16gb of memory, 1tb HDD + 24gb SSD and dual NVidia GT 755m SLI config. PROBLEM: My hardware seems to be slowing down dramatically. I?ve tried the typical startup repair and refresh from an installation media USB stick, and even the USB media takes forever to load and then hangs from screen to screen. The PC is about 2 years old and the only REAL modification I?ve done to it is flash a modded BIOS (hardware whitelist removed). The PC has been running strong up until a few months ago. It is normally used for school and hasn?t had any really heavy workloads in a while. I barely game on it and haven?t done so in more than 6 months. I haven?t been able to boot into my desktop for a couple of days. It takes hours sometimes. WHAT I?VE TRIED: Automatic startup repair: FAILRefresh Windows 10 installation while keeping files: FAILRan CHKDSK with no negative results. No bad sectors or fragmentationBootrec.exe /fixboot /fixMBR /scanos: SUCCESS. RebuildBCD: FAIL (finds the installation, type y for yes, then can?t locate it) SFC ScanNow: FAIL (can?t remember exact message)Removed SSD cache drive: Made it worse (I read this on another post and some people have had success with it but not I)Reset BIOS to default: NothingReseated memory sticks: No resultCompleted a 6 pack of IPAs: SUCCESS... Power cycling is the best way I can describe it. Approximately once a day, my y510p will power cycle all of its USB ports simultaneously, this is the two USB 3.0 ports as well as the USB 2.0 port (which makes things even stranger considering they are on separate controllers). I will lose connection to all devices (for me an external hard drive, USB 3.0 dock, and USB 2.0 mouse) and they will all come up again a moment later as just being plugged in. It is not the same time of day each day. My drivers are up to date. This occurred under Windows 8.1 64-bit and Windows 10 64-bit. There is also no correlation to whether there is a lot of data moving through the ports or if they are just idle.

I bought one of the first Lenovo IdeaPad y510p. Having a dual gpu made for a lot of gaming fun. Yesterday, the room filled up with the smell of an electrical burn. I checked the underside the Lenovo. It had been hotter. I heard workers outside my window and figured that the smell may come from them. A few minutes later very thick smoke came out of the left air vent and made a column in the air. I quickly pulled out the power cord and battery. Luckily, the house is still standing. I understand that electronics eventually fail. Yet, this seems unsafe and dangerous. What if I weren't in the room to act quickly? There should be some way to report this. The support page to send a message has been down with an under maintenance message for days.

Hello, for professional purposes I plan to upgrade the existing 8gbof available RAM on my laptop to 12gb or 16gb, depending on price range. I know next to zero about RAM consideration for optimal compability/performance. I uploaded two images of the currently installed RAM cards. There are still 2 slots available, could someone point me to recommended/compatible RAM cards? (If I can order it from amazon, the better). Thank you for the support.?

Okay here are the details:Windows 10 HomeIdeapad Y510P, only a few years oldworks perfectly finebattery at 0%, plugged-in not chargingoriginal battery and power cordsI can't remember how to get this message to pop up again, but I remember it saying something along the lines of 'Lenovo does not support batteries they didn't make so we are going to pretend you don't have one in'. I have the same battery and charger that came with the computer. I've tried messing with the settings and taking the battery out and putting it back in. I've been to the BIOs screen and looked around. I've searched through forms and everything. I'm about to just buy a new battery for it and see if that fixes it. But I'd like to know what happened so I can prevent it from happening again. Did the battery just get too old and decide to die on me? It's been very frustrating.

Hey, I bought Lenovo y510p laptop like 2 weeks ago. It is the SLI version of the y510p. The laptop worked just fine when I was playing with it, ran CSGO and Skyrim on Ultra settings over 60 fps. Couple days ago, my friend broke my charger, and I went to Walmart to buy a new one. I bought the Duracell charger which is 90 watts and it was compatible with my laptop. Then I plugged it in, and tried to play csgo but the fps was like from 5 to 15. I have no idea how this happened. I also took off my battery and just tried to play it without it and just charging the laptop, and when I opened csgo the laptop shut down. I already made virus tests and there was nothing in the viruses. Please help me if you can, I really wouldn't want to send this to the warranty since it's brand new and propably gonna take atleast a month. Thank you already!

My guess is that the Charger may not be compatible with that laptop....90watts yes but has it got the correct DC output.

Also you didn't say how your original charger got broken. like was it attached to the laptop at the time?

What could be happening is..when you plug the new power supply in it is not the correct power your PC expects so it disregards it and runs off the battery at lower everything. As when you take the battery out it will not run at all. Easy place for damage is where the power plug goes into the laptop.

My battery keeps jumping from 40% to 7% within a matter of minutes. I tried resetting my battery but the battery won't go to 100% charged to be able to reset it (it only charges to 99%). How do I fix my batter if I cannot fully charge the battery and then fully discharge the battery?

So I have a Lenovo Y510P IdeaPad, I upgraded it to Windows 10 last December and wanted to downgrade it back to Windows 8/8.1 due to some issues that many said are due to the fact that the model doesn't really support Windows 10 thus I experience the problems. However, since it has been more than a month from the upgrade, I can't just roll it back to previous OS and am wondering if there is any way I can find out what my original product key for the pre-activated Windows 8 so I can perform a clean reinstall with it.

A:Y510P - Downgrading to Windows 8/8.1

If windows came pre-installed on your laptop, the key might be on its certificate of authenticity. Alternatively, you can obtain the key using third party softwares like ProduKey. It'll display the currently activated key on your system.

Hey, I know there are already a few topics with the same subject, however none have the exact same situation as mine as most are US based. I too have a powerful Lenovo Y510P SLI with a Intel Centrino N2230 wifi card. I am buying a new router for my student room and since I want to buy things that can last for a few years, opted for a wifi AC router (probably an Asus one). But, this laptop won't support it... I looked in the technical maintaince manual to find which wifi cards are supported for the Y510P, there is one Wifi AC card for the Y410P, but according to various posts will also work in the Y510P as they share the same BIOS whitelist. I don't want to flash the BIOS with a custom modded one which removes the whitelist. (I flashed a desktop Asus motherboard to run OSX, went great, runs well, but I can't experiment with this laptop, need it for university.). So I Googled and Ebayed the partnumer and this one came up: Ebay Link, which says "Only for Lenovo/IBM laptops such as Y510P" should be fine right? Only thing is it is 40 USD, Dutch customs will charge 21% on top of it so that makes 48 USD, and the Dutch postal office will charge anywhere between 15-20 USD for paperwork for importing goods. So that makes an total of 68 USD... so that almost doubles the cost of the upgrade...  I used the FRU number for this card: WLAN, WiFi AC+BT4.0, Ltn BCM4352+20702 2x2AC+BT4.0 HMC which is 20200381, and put in the search engine in the "part number" ...
