Portege Z930-problem with sound

Q: Portege Z930-problem with sound

Since my keyboard was changed I have had problems with the sound of my laptop. I can listen music only by headphones! Could anyone help me? I have Windows 10 (64 bits). Thank you very much in advance.

I have a Portege Z930 ultrabook. A day or two back the display suddenly appeared to be permanently off. However, if I look carefully I can see that the image is there but VERY, VERY dimly. It is as if the light has been turned off (although since the screen is LED that will not be the case).

I was able to source a replacement screen but that made no difference.

The video card on the motherboard is working - at least to the extent that I can plug in an external monitor and see everything correctly.

I'm wondering if a hardware switch has inadvertently been triggered and I'm missing the setting. Or I suppose it could be a witch which turns the display off when the lid is closed which has become faulty...

The Z930 has been running Windows 8.1 very happily for the past year or so.

I'm hoping that there will be something simple rather than a motherboard failure...

In my opinion it is hardware related issue and has nothing to do with settings.
In the past we have had many threads with the same or similar problems and describes issue was related to the defective FL inverter.

Anyone have tryed to upgrade Z930's SSD?
Looking for some info, they appear to use mSATA interface - mini PCI-E like conectors.

Any specific information about the disk inside?

The mSATA connector looks very similar to miniPCI connector but they are totally different.
So your only solution is to replace the HDD with a 2.5" SATA SSD.

I have a Z930-108 laptop, with a SSD drive and running Windows 7 Ultimate, which was working ok. However i recently started it up the first screen is "Windows loading files" then it freezes on the "starting windows" screen.

Hi, new to this forum. I have a Portege z930-14D laptop with 64 bit system with Intel Core i5-3437U processor and Windows 7 professional. I was using an external screen till recently. When i stopped using it, i noticed that the function key for display brightness wasn't working. When i pressed fn key and f6 or f7, brightness setting came up but i could change the brightness. All other fn key related operations were fine. I saw some online forums for this problem and followed their recommendation around upgrading diplay driver and value added pack from the UK support website of Toshiba. Also clicked on restart flash cards. Nothing seems to have worked and now the fn key itself has stopped working i.e., nothing happens when i press fn key and i cannot perform any operations using fn key. Please suggest what could be a solution to this problem. Thanks.

I have a Portege Z930-14L with 8GB memory and wonder what is the maximal memory I can add ? I saw the following in the description, but I don't understand if that means the maximum is 12GB(4GB onboard + 8GB expansion) or 16GB ( 2x8GB)

If I understand this info right your Portege has already maximum RAM.
Fact is that your Portege notebook can handle with max 8GB memory. ON board there are already 4GB and there is only one RAM slot available for upgrade that also contains one 4GB RAM module.
With other words your notebook has already maximum RAM and upgrade is not possible.

I installed W10 on my Protege Z-930 and it ran perfectly. During December Windows Update automatically installed a major upgrade for W10 and now the fan runs constantly, even when the laptop starts and CPU is very cold.
Can somebody help me ?

I'd like to know what is the recommended memory by Toshiba to upgrade the RAM at the maximum amount.
I own a Portege Z930 16M part number PT234E-08P05SIT.

If I undestood weel it needs a 4GB DDR3 memory to get to the maximum of 6GB (2 on board+4), right?

Hi,

I have a Portege Z930 laptop with an SSD drive. Recently it would not boot into Windows 7. It just hangs at the "Starting Windows" screen.

I removed the hard drive and connected it to another computer via USB. This was ok, i could see all the files, so i formatted it and put it back into the laptop.

When i boot it up now is still hangs at "Starting Windows. This is confussing, as the hard drive has been formatted, and has nothing on it.

Any help please.

Now we want to upgrade to Win 8.
There were two Win8 DVDs supplied.

Can I use this DVDs for upgrade?
How should I use the DVDs without a drive?

I tried the DVD with another laptop and the DVDs are not bootable.

I assume you cannot use them if you have not external CD/DVD drive?

Maybe you could borrow such drive from a friend?

Otherwise try to copy the content of the disk to a USB flash memory stick and then try to boot from the stick.
But to be honest, I?m not quite sure it this would functions.

Hello,

I just buyed a Z930 Portege from Toshiba with Win7 Pro installed and 2 DVD with WIN8 upgrade.

Perfect, till I tried to make the upgrade. I changed in BIOS to UEFI and secure BOOT, started the computer with first DVD inside the DVD reader and nothing happend.

Then I started to search on the forum and find out that two other guys succeded with the update according to the paper notice of Toshiba (changing the BIOS and secure boot).

What I can do because main does not work.

Please give me an advice.
It is 12Gmodel, Core i5 vPro

*Solved the issue.*

Just do the changes in BIOS.
Restart and wait till you got the message: restore to the factory setting.

Chose this option, put the DVD1 with W8 from Toshiba in the external ODD and follow the onscreen advices. Just one will be, with changing the DVD1 with the second one.

That is it. You have W8.

Hi,

I recently bought a Z930 laptop, and I was thinking on upgrading the RAM memory.

I wanted to buy a 8gb DIMM, but I noticed on the specs that the maximum memory allowed is 6 gb (that means a 4gb DIMM + 2gb on the motherboard). Is this a motherboard restriction or similar? If not, would the laptop run with 10gb of memory?

The max says 4GB but you may be able to get an 8GB module working if it's decent RAM that has the correct channels. But if something goes wrong and damages the mainboard I doubt Toshiba would repair it under warranty, so I think the best thing to do is stick with the recommended maximum. 6GB is plenty anyway unless you are doing heavy graphical/media creation.

Hello,

after 3yrs without problems the SSD in my Portege Z930-108 crashed. I could still copy the D partition (HDDRecovery) but no system or data partition.
When substituting the SSD with a newer version (Samsung 850 EVO) the right screw (Z930 oriented bottom up and sound connectors to the right) accidentially droped on the main board just next to the SSD. There was a short blue flash and afterwards the batteries do not seem to work any more. The system is running plugged into net without problems but no buffering by batteries happens any more.
Do I have to exchange the whole mainboard or is there some work around possible?

Second is there a way to recover the original drivers/system from the copied D partition without a Toshiba Recovery wizard or is there a download of this wizard?

My daughter was using the above PC the other day, when suddenly it would no longer boot.

I've now tried to do a system restore to a backup I did a few weeks ago, but the system is reporting that the computer is using BIOS, but the backup was done with EFI

Unfortunately, on the bios settings page, I don't have secure boot listed under security.
In addition, on the system configuration page, the computer is listing the BIOS as being CSM mode.

Worse, there is no option to change that mode, as I can't select that entry.

I've now cleaned my hard disk partition, and done a system restore from the recovery media I created, but it still hasn't helped.

How can I reenable UEFI Boot/Secure boot? There must be a way.
I spent an hour on the phone with "Toshiba Expert Care", and they've now suggested I have a hardware fault.
I'd happily replace the SSD, if I thought that would fix the problem, but it looks like the problem is elsewhere.

The drive can be read when booting to a command prompt, so I'm not sure which drive is being referred to here.

Is it possible to update to windows 8 without using a dvd external drive?

Through image of the dvd's or something?

I tried to put the files of the dvd in a external hdd usb drive but it didn't work... is there any way to install it without using a dvd external drive?

I've just upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 (64) on my Portege Z930 (Part number: PT235R-08JOJERU)

Unfortunately, there are several issues that are not working properly:

- My function keys are not working at all (TOSHIBA Function Key v. 1.1.15.4 is installed)- Bluetooth is not working (TOSHIBA System Driver v. 1.01.0002 is installed)

Besides I?m seeing in Device Manager 3 unrecognized devices:

I recently upgraded my laptop to Windows 10, installed the drivers available on Toshiba website but unfortunately my touchpad lost the ability to scroll. Did anybody experienced this? How can I solve the issue?

You could use an external USB CD/DVD drive in order to boot from Win 8 disks.

Or you will try to install the Win 8 using an USB flash memory sik.
But in order to be able to install the Win 8 from USB flash memory stick an Win 8 ISO (image) files is needed.
Additionally you have to create an bootable USB stick. You can do this using the ?Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool?

My Toshiba Portege Z930-108 laptop has stopped to boot with any RAM module installed in socket.

If I remove RAM module, laptop boots and works fine, but if I install any RAM module (original 4Gb 1600 or a new 4G 1600 CL9 or 8G 1600 CL11) computer cannot boot.

The screen stays black and power led is blinking two green and two orange, and some seconds after, 3G indicator also on in blue.

This is the only problem that I have with this computer, but it's strange.

I have updated BIOS to last version and problem is not solved.

I have tried to reset hardware (http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB3B03J90000R01.htm), also I have tried to reset hardware with power button pressed 30 seconds without battery but no success.

Any idea about this strage problem?

This is only one plausible explanation.

I would recommend you to order the RAM modules recommended by Toshiba which are:

I'm new to forums so please forgive me if I don't give enough information! I have two issues with my Portege Z930 that have been bugging me for months, if not longer. The first, and more longstanding issue is with the touchpad. Every so often it disables itself for no reason, and without warning. I quickly learned to press Function F9 and it comes back on again.

However, recently it was becoming more and more common (every couple of minutes) which led me to reinstall back to factory settings. Since then, it has been disabling a lot less frequently (once every few hours) but it still does it!

The other issue is with the device disconnect sound. This keeps on playing regardless of whether I have anything connected or not.
It was driving me crazy until I learned I could simply disable the sound effect which I have done (but clearly this is not a solution).
was hoping that this would be cleared up by the restoring of Window 7 to factory settings but if anything, its been worse since.

This has been going on for a few months now and I have tried everything I've read (although I'm not that tech literate so I may not have understood a lot of what I've read!).

I've looked in event viewer but there doesn't seem to be a record of anything happening when the noise occurs. In device manager, the screen does seem to refresh shortly after the noise but there's no way of knowing which device is causing ... Read more

Hi,

our company bought a Toshiba Portege Z930-14X and it is necessary to do a clean Windows 7 Install.

Unfortunatly there is no working Windows 7 key to be found anywhere on the device.
I did read out the key from the original installation, but this key is not supposed to be activated, hence doesn't work for clean installation.

Usually there is a licence sticker at the bottom of the device, but this laptop has nothing whatsoever.

So, where do I find that Windows 7 key?

If you want to use an clean Windows system, you have to purchase the MS Windows disk containing the serial key.
The Toshiba notebooks are preinstalled with Toshiba image containing the OEM version of Windows system and the drivers. This image is already activated. The serial key isn?t needed.

the Notebooks have been bought with OEM W7/W8, W7 is preinstalled.

I want deploy a "standard-Image" for all 20 Notebooks (Windows 7, sysprep) -
my question is about the windows7 key aktivation

If I clone a W7 OS to another Portege, there is still the same W7 Serial number (checkt it with script; w7 is still activated). (Serial Key for W7/W8 integrated on system board?!).

May i run into troubles when doing the "rollout" in the way i described above?

Fact is that if you need 20 Microsoft Windows 7 licenses if you want to use Windows 7 on 20 notebooks.

But you can still use one and the same image on all 20 notebooks if all notebooks are equipped with the same hardware parts.

My TOSHIBA (ex-laptop) Portege(Z930) board burned out with hot water. I removed the tiny SSD and now need to transfer the data with a USB to another PC.

I borrowed from a friend a SATA to USB adapter with 2 interfaces and even the small connectors for SATA was not small enough for TOSHIBA's SSD. Apparently I need a special SATA to USB adapter which fits to TOSHIBA Portege's mSata.

The reason I wrote here is because there are many SATA USB adapters in internet advertised but it seems they have bigger connectors. So TOSHIBA calls the SSD mSATA labeled on it, but many people call mSATA for one size bigger SSD.

I don't want to order something doesn't fit again. Is there anyone who already removed SSD from Portege?
Could you provide me a link for such adapter?

The notebook was equipped with an HM77 Intel Panther Point chip and with the launch of this chip Intel allowed the notebook manufacturers to integrate the mSATA (micro SATA) SSD form factor.

There is also an difference between the mSATA form factors?
Since the mSATA is limited to four (NAND) chips only, Intel has developed a new standard of mSATA which is called m.2 or mSATA2.

In many cases this is called also NGFF (New Generation Form Factor)
This m.2 standard is longer and has a lower profile?

I'm not quite sure if this Portege Z930 supports mSATA or mSATA2 but you check the internal SSD drive where this information should be available

Very disappointed with the response from Toshiba over an issue we are having with the Z Series laptops.

Let me explain - I am responsible for the laptops at a large college in the south of the UK. We have round 40 Series laptops and on a large number of them the screws which hold he hinge covers in place have come out and become lost, in many cases the hinge covers have come off and been lost as well. The first thing that crossed out minds was 'interference' by students but as no other screws were found to be lose the only conclusion we can come to is that that there is a design fault and these hinge cover screws have worked lose over time and fallen out.

I am currently working through all our Z Series laptops and I am finding more and more lose or missing screws and additional missing hinge covers. We have bought this to the attention of Toshiba but they will not accept there is an issue - but haven't yet provided a reason why this should be happening in such numbers.

As can be imagined we are not best pleased with their response and would like to hear from anyone who has had the same issue. At over 50.00 GBP to fix each pair of hinges, you can imagine how quickly the costs are rising.

31.Oct.2012 we purchased Portege Z930-G1S (PT234R) - quite an expensive notebook with Win7 Home Premium OS.

We thought we are entitled to Win8 discounted upgrade, but as we entered our data on Microsoft site - they told us we're not entitled.

We tried to reach Toshiba support in Russia - http://ru.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/contact_toshiba.jsp
Several times over a month.

But all the mails are returning with "invalid recepient address" error.

How can it be that official Toshiba support site enlists invalid blacklisted address ?
How can it be that recent and quite expensive Toshiba notebook is not subject to Windows 8 upgrade program ?

The point is that you have to order Windows 8 from Microsoft and install it.
If it fails contact Microsoft why the Win 8 order has failed.

From my knowledge Toshiba provides an Win 8 drivers. You can get this drivers using TOSHIBA Upgrade Assistant but you can do that after Win 8 has been installed!

Hello!

I have a Toshiba Portege Z930-D3S laptop. I wanted to run a system recovery and did everything exactly as in the manual http://forums.toshiba.com/tshb/attac.../1/Z930_EN.pdf page 4-24, Section System recovery Options. The tool told me that the recovery partition is empty (or something like this) and the recovery cannot be performed. I definitely did not erase it and do not how it can be. Then there was an option to erase sdd and I thought that this might help (don't ask me why) and that the tool would erase everything but the recovery partition. So, I chose it.

Now I have the frozen screen with "Toshiba Leading Innovation" and cannot enter any menu neither by pressing 0, nor by holding F8. I cannon restart the laptop, it seems that it simply fall asleep when I press the power button.

Please, help me to recover the system.

If you use Win8.1 you can use Functional kez on two ways and change two modes:
-special function mode
-standard F1-F12 mode

There is one difference. When you use special function mode you can use F keys only. With standard mode you must use FN+Fx key combination.

Flash cards that you can see at the top of the screen works with Vista or Win7 only. As far as I know since Win8 flash cards are not shown on the top of the screen anymore.

I have the laptop since July 2013. At the beginning I had a good autonomy, the battery was lasting 6 hours, which with time diminished to something like 4 hours.
Now, I've been using the laptop plugged for some time, and I discovered a week ago that I have a huge capacity loss, around 55%. The strange thing is that this got much worse in few days, and now the loss is at 77%.

Besides buying a new battery (which I will do in the future - btw, any tutorial on how to change it?), what can I do? this loss of capacity is permanent? I've been measuring it with an acpi tool.

After many months biding my time I have just embarked upon upgrading my Portege Z930-11G to Windows 8 Pro.

Largely this has gone to plan with the exception that after running the Toshiba Upgrade Assistant I've lost the Fn key display and about half the keys no longer seem to function at all.

The only key I ever used routinely is the Fn+F8 option to turn WiFi on/off.

So now I cannot enable the WiFi on the machine.

There must, surely, be a mean to do this but I can't find it. Does anyone have a suggestion? I'm OK for now as I have a wired LAN in the house but once I get out on the road I'm going to struggle without WiFi.

Before running the upgrade assistant the Fn key brought the key display up across the top of the screen and I surely wish I'd turned WiFi on at that point.

The Fn key utility offers very little control of the Fn keys. It does not offer the ability to do anything other than disable five on screen notifications for keyboard backlight, power plan, touch pad, cursor overlay and numeric overlay.

All help gratefully received.

Win key + C -> Settings -> Change PC settings -> Wireless

Now you can use the wireless devices slider to enable or disable the WLan.

But to get the FN key working you have to install the +Toshiba Function Key Utility+ for Win 8 and +Toshiba System Driver+ for Win 8

Hello,

I used Toshiba Recovery Media Creator to create 2 recovery media on USB flash drive for my Z930-10P. Then I removed all partitions from the computers SSD. The problem is that the recovery process won't work. This happens:

1. 'Windows is loading files' is displayed on the screen
2. 'Starting Windows' and the Windows 7 animation logo is displayed.
3. Then the marker is shown for a couple of seconds before...
4. An error message *ERROR : F3-F100-0008* is displayed with the instruction 'Please press OK to turn off the computer.'

I have tried both USB flash drives. What does this error mean?

Unfortunately I don?t know what this error code exactly mans but on different forums people speculate about some HDD, memory or recovery image failure.

In your situation proper answer will not help at all. Problem is that you cannot use created recovery USB sticks and at the same time you?ve made biggest mistake and removed recovery image saved on the SSD. Now it is not possible to start HDD/SSD recovery image installation.

Question is: what you can do now? You can try to contact nearest Toshiba service provider, explain the situation and ask for help or good advice. Other way you must order original recovery installation disc for recovery image installation.

I have toshiba portege Z930 and my function keys worked until I have installed YAC (Yet another cleaner) to get rid of some malware, that worked, but the problem is that even after uninstalation, function keys got broken:

FN + y/z which should highlith the keyboard is not working (I've installed something called "Function Key" so that works for now, as well with FN 1,FN 3,FN 4, and 3+4 for volume)

but others doesn't simply work:
FN + ESC (mute)
FN + F2 (eco mode)
FN + F5 (monitor switch)
FN + F8 (wifi/bluetooth switch
FN + F9-12

Could anybody point me to right drivers for that? Thanks a lot

What Windows system is installed?
In case of Windows 7 you must install Toshiba Value Added Package
In case of Win 8.1 you need to install the Toshiba System settings.

But note: some FN key functionality depends on the 3rd software. For example you will not be able to use the FN+F2 eco mode if ECO Utility isn?t installed.

But why you don?t set the OS back to early time point before you used the cleaner tool?

The Recovery Media Creator is an Toshiba tool which requires the Toshiba image files in order to create the recovery disk. The image files are placed on a different partition called HDD recovery partition.

If the HDD has been modified or this partition deleted, the recovery media creator will not be able to find the image files and you will not be able to create such disk.

I recently updatet my Laptop (Z930-12m) to windows 10, everything is working fine so far, except the Touchpad (Synaptics).
I can't scroll any more and also the momentum setting I used before seems not to be working any longer.

I bought the upgrade from 7 to 8 during the promotional offer in early 2013, but until now I was waiting for a better moment to perform the upgrade. I'm trying to do the upgrade having prepared a USB pen with the ISO I downloaded in 2013.

However, after 20 minutes of work, around 99% it says that the Upgrade was unsuccessful.

I've read somewhere that it could be because of the recovery partition of my Portege.

Does anyone have faced similar problems?
Please, consider that I'm trying to perform an upgrade, instead of a clean install.

Simple thing to do as you just got it so you don't have huge thing to backup or not at all simply do a fresh install of Windows 7 on your laptop. It is better to do fresh install rather than making an upgrade.

Also you may try to install the latest driver for you sound card.

So I bought a 2nd hand Z930 (with no back-up drivers/software) and when setting my password I checked the box to replicate the password for the HDD.

When it re-booted I did see an error message flash up but didn't read it in time.
It re-booted and asked for the password - typed it in - confirmed; HDD password - not confirmed!
So now I can't get into the laptop. Can this be fixed?

I'm thinking I should buy a 256gb SSD to replace it and then find all the drivers and reformat the laptop - will that work?

I'm struggling to find an authorised dealer in the UK to ask them to remove the password from the BIOS - thinking the new SSD would be a cheaper solution anyhow?

HDD password cannot be deleted if you don?t know the password or if the password is wrong.
I have no idea what went wrong during the password set but fact is that BIOS password and HDD password are not the same.
Both can be set within the BIOS separately.

In case the HDD password cannot be deleted, the HDD would be useless?

Yes, the HDD password does not affect new HDDs or SSD drives? but only the HDD which was connected to the notebook while the password has been set.

Hello,

Owner of a newly acquired Satellite Z930-15X, I have some questions/problems :

1) Suspend to RAM and hibernation work well when there is no external USB hard disk plugged in. If there is one plugged in, the laptop immediately returns back from suspend state. Is there a solution for this?

2) Is there a way to selectively deactivate Bluetooth? Currently only activate/deactivate Plane mode is offered (with Fn-F8 or from Windows 8 charm bar). This activates/deactivates both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth I believe.

3) The laptop is wobbly on reception. I have to put some thin paper at one bottom corner (the bottom top left) in order that it can be stabilized. Apparently the problem is also mentioned in another thread. Is there a suggestion to fhix this problem?

1/ Which HDD is connected to your notebook? When I use 2,5? external HDD with my Satellite U940 I don?t have such problem.

2/ I?ve tested it on my machine and have noticed the same. When WLAN is off BT software is off too. I didn?t find a way how to separately have control over WLAN device and BT.

3/ I think this problem must be clarified with Toshiba service. They should check it and maybe exchange rubbers at the bottom.

I have no sound all of a sudden on Portege.
I was using it last night and it had sound then this morning the computer shut down half way through a task and when I booted it up again it told me it was installing 3 updates.

Now I have no sound and it says in the sounds menu that "no audio devices are installed"

Generally a driver reinstallation is always advisable and recommended if an device does not work properly.

Therefore I would recommend reinstalling the sound driver. Firstly remove the sound card from the device manger, reboot the notebook, wait till sound card was recognized again and if necessary reinstall the driver.

The sound volume on my R500 (R500-11c to be exact) is ridiculously low. Only with volume maxed out (100) and using headphones do I hear anything at all, and even then it's way too low to be useful. I can just make out the test sounds in the left and then right earphone when using the test sound found at Control Panel -> Sound -> Speakers (there are no Headphones to be selected) -> Properties -> Advanced -> Test. Unplugging the headphones I hear nothing from the speakers, due to the (very low) sounds made by the fan and HDD. Playing music (with headphones) I can just make out that sounds are being produced, but I can't even make out what is playing.

I've tested the things mentioned in the "Satellite 5105-S901 Sound is very low (even on max volume) using supplied Toshiba driver" thread with no success (including Loudness Equalization).

I'm running Vista Business 32bit, and have tried the driver_audio_realtek26117B.exe, driver_audio_realtek_TC00157600B.exe, and Vista_Win7_R243_x86.exe driver files, and also used the util_mute_off_25847B.exe utility.

Enabling mute makes the already faint sounds go completely silent, so I don't think it's a mute issue.

Jack detection does work, I can see that in the Realtek HD Audio Manager program. Using that program's sound test (Speaker Configuration) I have to go to a completely silent room, and even then I only hear something in the right earphone. Hi,

I got a used Protege R500 and installed Windows7 Professional. But I don't have sound. If I open music, I see the green bar on the volume control in the tray rising and falling. So it plays sound but it doesn't get it out of the speakers or the headphone.

Plugging in the headphone is also well recognized by Win7. It also records sound. I tested in Skype, others can hear me, but I can't hear them. In the device manager the audio is listed with "Realtech High Definition Audio (With EC)". There is only one device in Device Manager which is not recognized (Unknown Device).

Can you help me please? I want also to use my new laptop to listen to music..

I recently bought a reconditioned Portege 4010 and it works great, except that the sound glitches a lot. It seems to be random, can occur like once in 3-4 seconds or it can sound fine for a few minutes then *glitch glitch glitch*. It sounds like the tempo of the sound is slowed down and then catches back up, and it sometimes makes a popping sound.

I previously had a Portege 4000 , which made a little popping sound every once in a while, but it occured rarely, like once every 30 minutes, and was hardly noticeable. On this 4010 it is much worse.

I have all the official Toshiba drivers, running a tweaked installation of XP SP2. I have tried a clean install and the sound has the same glitches.

Right now i am using the ULi drivers i found on the Nvidia download page, they helped a bit, the sound bugs now occur more sporadically, but when they do occur (once every couple minutes or so), they are still as bad as they initially were. Also, the ULi drivers are the only sound drivers i could find that have proper volume levels, with the drivers found on your site the Wave volume distorts when turned over 20-25%, now i don't have to worry as even if it gets set to max like some games do, the sound won't be distorted. I had the same problem on my old Portege 4000, back then i didn't know about the drivers fix and used a volume limiting program to force "naughty" apps and games to respect the mixer settings.

Well, never mind, i fixed it. I found this great program named DPC Latency Checker, and it helped me determine it was the wireless card inducing delays and messing up the sound. I happened to have another card lying around, i replaced the one that was in the notebook and now it's all working fine.

I have downloaded the sound driver (abt a million times - and tried uninstalling then reinstalling) - and repeatedly get no volume icon on the desk top and a message saying "no sound driver can be found".

I did manage to fix it once - when i had WIndows Vista installed - by finding some obscure patch - but this time around - no solutions.

I am interested to see if anyone else is experiencing this issue. Since upgrading Windows 10 to the latest Version 1511, Build 10586 released in November by Microsoft i am having strange issues with the Conexant HD Audio device.

The issue being when i am playing stereo music and i encounter a lower volume section of the music (i.e - strings etc) the sound switches from Stereo to Mono and when the volume of the track increases it again reverts to stereo. Sometimes it switched back and forth regularly which is irritating.


I have the latest DTS Studio Sound (1.2.41) for Windows 10 and the correct Conexant HD Audio driver from Toshiba (8.66.5.52) and this is the exact same driver/software version i had prior to updating Windows 10 to the latest version so the issue has definately been caused by the update.


To get around the issue i have installed the generic High Defination Audio Device drivers from Microsoft and the issue no longer occurs but i obvisuly can no longer use DTS Studio Sound with these drivers.


I am hoping Toshiba will be releasing a new DTS Studio Sound and/or driver to correct this issue.

Hi,

I have now installed Windows 7 on my R500 to prepare for Windows XP's end of life.
I experienced that now with Windows 7 the sound does not really work.

The build-in loudspeaker does not work and an externally connected speaker with amplifier can just get some sound in max amplification. I googled and saw many people having similar issues.

Does anybody know if Toshiba has a fix for this ?

Do other people with Portege laptops have the same issue ?

I've googled and found people having problems with low sound volume on other laptops from other manufacturers using the ALC262 chip

But I found the solutions :)
Download the small ?Sound Utility to Turn Mute Off After Upgrading to Vista?

You will find a small file called 'MuteOff'. Run this file as administrator and check if your sound would work.

Note: All drivers should be installed as well as the Realtek sound driver.

Hi,

I am using a Portege M800-116 running XP-SP3.

Problem 1:
Connecting Line-Out to a stereo and playing music w/ Winamp or WinMediaPlayer works fine on batteries.
As soon as I connect the power adapter, loud high frequency hiss and hum static disturbs the experience.

Problem 2:
Recording WAV or MP3 files with internal or external mic only produce mediocre results.
The resulting files include a high level of high frequency hiss and hum static.
Connecting power increases the problem.

Comparing playback and recording sound quality with my old trusted Portege M100:
My M800 is a not only low quality - it's plain unusable.

Problem 3:
Toshiba HWSetup does not start from Controlpanel.
Have tried un- and re-installing to no avail.

I have a fairly new Toshiba Portege R830 (PT321E-01E00YEN) laptop that does not use built in speakers if placed in a dock with the Laptop screen closed or the microphone.

This causes problems when trying to work from just an external monitor but when I flip the lid open, it works fine.

I'm using a port replication II ( PA3916B ) and when installed about a month ago, all the device drivers etc was updated to the lasted available so I think there is a software configuration option that just needs checking or disabling.

Does anyone know where this might be?

I have testing this on another older port replicator that was originally purchased for a R700-15R and have exactly the same problem so I don't think it is hardware related.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :-)

Please don't understand me wrong but for me this behavious sounds logic. When you close the lid internal speaker and mic placed near the cam are blocked so I don't know how do you want to use it.
When notebook is closed and placed by side it is almost the same as desktop. All devices you need should be external devices and connected to the docking station.

If you use your notebook on regular way but additionally external display for desktop extension you can use all internal devices of your notebook.

In my opinion the point of docking station usage of different peripheral devices with your notebook but using docking station you can remove notebook and take it with you without disconnecting each of connected devices including AC power supply.

To be honest I don't see there any problem. You can contact nearest Toshiba service and ask for opinion but I?m pretty sure the answer will be the same.

I am recently encountering problem with my portege a600-128. No wireless network adapters shown, an thus no wifi detection, moreover when using headphones, the realtek HD audio software detects them being plugged-in, but no sound is produced - i was wondering if this last one is a problem due to software or maybe a hardware damage..

Re: wifi, I tried downloading the realtek_wlan_20100225.zip driver from the site, but nothing changed. Actually, the only adapter shown in the device manager is the toshiba f3507g mobile broadband adapter, and in network connections i can only see that one. Trying to "scan for hardware changes" in the device manager only managed the laptop to realise that my alps pointing device (the touchpad) isn't installed (though it always worked, and still does) - trying to install the tpdrv-20081103180427.ZIP didn't change anything..

Have you checked if WLAN connection is enabled using FN+F8 key combination? If your notebook has a WLAN hardware switch, it must be set to ON!
Furthermore I would recommend loading the default settings in BIOS.

I have a problem with the Toshiba XP Factory build for the Portege A600 and Portege R600.
If you try to modify the sound properties for the Webcam using the Camera Assistant Software with the sound muted, the Camera Assistant application will hang & Windows is unable to close it or even shut down. The only way to shut down is to hold down the power button until the machine switches off.

So far, the only workaround I can come up with is to turn the volume down to zero rather than using the mute option. The trouble is, if you forget and mute the sound rather than turning it down and then try to modify the sound properties, its 'game over'. Also, this isn't really satisfactory as the policy is to keep the machines muted until the sound is needed.

It doesn't happen with the Vista Build, only the XP Build.

My guess is that this will happen on any machine using the Chicony Webcam & software with the Realtek HD audio but I haven't tried it on enough machines yet to be sure. So far, I have recreated it on two A600s and an R600. The machines are not faulty and you can create the problem, 'straight out of the box'. Just do the following:
1) Use the Toshiba supplied Product Recovery DVD to restore the Toshiba Windows XP SP2 factory build
2) Once you have done all the set up stuff, mute the sound
3) Open up the Camera Assistant Software application & select the properties
4) Choose the audio settings tab

I don?t have a Portege but U400 with integrated webcam and preinstalled Win XP.
I installed a clean Win XP and then updated the XP to the latest state and installed all possible and available drivers from the Toshiba page.

I followed the steps described in your message and I have to say that I didn?t notice any strange issues? the webcam software is still running properly?

I don?t know what the problem could be but I recommend checking the sound driver fro update? maybe you could use the one from the Realtek page?

I think you cannot use the same keyboard because the Portege S100 supports the an-easy-to-use 84-key (US) or 85-key (UK) keyboard and the Portege M100 supports the an-easy-to-use 85/86-key keyboard.
Furthermore the connector of the S100 supports the CN3230 keyboard interface 34 pin connector and the M100 supports the PJ3230 keyboard 34pin connector.

So possibly this could be a problem.
I recommend using the original keyboards released for the each notebook model.

Hello,

I have bought a new Portege with Win Vista on it and Win Xp on a Revovery CD. Everything worked on my new Laptop. Then I have installed Win 7 on it without making a backup from my working system. That was a big mistake. I downloaded the Win 7 divers from the Toshiba homepage. But the Fingerprint Software means there is no sensor. The driver was installed. After much trying I have used the Recovery CD. Now I have WIN XP on my system with the same Problem. It was a Recovery CD with all drivers. It had to work. But it doesnt works.

Anyone an idea? Could anyone help me?

I can see the display faintly on the laptop and clearly on an external display if connected. Also, if I press the top right button (that has some sort of display symbol on it), the backlight comes on momentarily.

I have reset all the display settings to factory default and followed various advice from forums about settings in the Intel driver, but nothing makes any difference.

This leads me to conclude that there may be a problem with the backlight switch.

Anybody out there got any ideas?

If it is the switch, can I replace is myself?

Enable Hibernation and then close the Lid. Does it enter hibernation as expected?

If yes, the switch is fine. Something else is faulty.

If that model uses an FL Inverter you need to replace the Inverter. Otherwise if it's an LED backlit screen the LCD would need replacing.

Hi i have a Toshiba Portege M400 Model No. PPM41E-00H01CHK

I re-installed OS (Window Xp Tablet) from the recovery disk as it was running slow.

It has been hanging at the Toshiba Boot screen, showing Built in HDD Error and failing to boot.

When disconnecting the power and hdd and then re-connecting it occasionally booted but if shut down would fail to boot again so i figured the hdd was failing and bought a new one.

Now I can not install xp onto the new hdd. I am getting Built in HDD Error, this time however it goes past this message and will boot from the recovery cd to the install screen.

It then fails to install and gives a message about a faulty disk or bad RAID Configuration.

I have since found out that this is something to do with the portege m400 having a SATA HDD which is not supported by Xp natively and needing to install raid drivers beforehand.

I have read that the recovery disk should be able to boot to a new disk directly and do the configuration but i can't seem to get it working.
How can i install the OS onto the new hdd?

If you are using recovery disks that do not need a recovery partition...then you should be able to install with no problem.

If your tablet also contained a recovery/restore partition that had to be used with the recovery disks...it would seem that is your problem.

If you are using recovery/restore disks provided by Toshiba...any/all drivers needed for recovery/restore would be included in the recovery/restore process.

I have a Toshiba Portege R705 with a unique problem that I've never come across. The display has shifted down and to the left. My screen has about a half inch black space on the very right hand side. Also, the task bar (Win 7) is shifted slightly off the bottom of the screen.

The best way to explain is as if it were an external monitor that I had gone into the settings and adjusted the image too far to the left and down. Except for the top of the screen doesn't have the black space.

I just opened it up one day and it was like this. I've gone through every setting I can find and there is no setting to adjust the display location. I've also googled and googled and googled.

I thought I would try and boot from some kind of live cd to see if the problem persists, thus pointing to a hardware issue. But I cannot. I never see the POST screen when I start up. I cannot get into the BIOS settings or anything alike. I have pushed all of the typical buttons (esc, del, f2, f12, f1, etc) during boot. The most I get is a beeping noise after I hold the key's down too long. The screen always stays black. I can see on the side of the screen that the LCD light is on, but nothing is being displayed.

So, does anyone have any ideas? Any clue as to why I don't see a POST screen or boot to CD?

I have just bought a Portege A200 few months ago, and recently noticed that the hard disk starts making some 'scratchy' noise. Can anybody:

I am fixing my Nanna's laptop for her and I am having some problems with the Wireless. It does not want to connect to my Router and gives me the Windows error message
Windows is unable to connect to the selected network." The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks and try to connect again." Your in range of the network (right in the same room as the wireless access point). And when you refresh the list, the network still shows up there.

It seems that it will only connect to Routers which use WEP security and not ones which use WPA.

I have looked on the Toshiba site for the Wireless Drivers to see if there is any updated ones and used the Driver Update Utility on Intel's download site and that tells me that the latest wireless driver is installed.

Does anyone know how I can fix this to get it to connect to Routers with WPA security?

Hi guys,

I have just been given a Toshiba Portege 2000 Laptop to play around with, but the problem that I am having is that I cannot boot it up to start. I keep getting a message that says:

A disk read error occured Press CTRL+Alt+Del to restart.

The Laptop is running Windows XP Professional have tried to "Google" the message above to see if there is a solution to the problem but I cannot find anything.

Is it true that I can boot from a PCMCIA card? If so how would I go about this? The Laptop does not have a Floppy or CD_ROM drive..

Disk Read Error means there is a problem with the Boot file or that the HDD has failed. Boot into the Setup Bios and see if the HDD is being recognized. Then go to the Boot order, see if you can boot thru a USB device. Make that the first boot device, then you can use either a USB CD rom drive, or a Flash drive with XP on it.

The problem is horrendous video corruption as detailed in the images. Model is ppa10e-0002n-en. Is there a fix or has the intel chipset gone? I think the current BIOS is not the latest.

Did you try to connect it to an external monitor to check if the same appears on the second display?
Do this. This procedure is helpful to find out if the graphic chip or the LCD is faulty.

I have a Portege 7220 CTe running Windows 98se. The hard drive is slowly deteriorating (bad sectors), so I decided to replace it. The old drive is a Toshiba 6GB. The new one is an IBM/Hitachi Travelstar 10GB - supposedly and apparently unused though dated Sept 01.

Executive summary: The drive worked once in the Portege, but doesn't any more. It continues to work fine through a USB interface to another system.

I have done the following. (I'm sure there are many irrelevant details, I just can't tell which might be relevant):

- Checked new drive with Hitachi's Drive Fitness Test. Ran this on the Portege, booting from a CD in the docking station. The drive checked out perfect.
- Made an image backup the old drive on another machine (XP desktop) using a USB enclosure, and Macrium Reflection.
- Restored the image to the new drive (using the same USB enclosure).
- Ran XP's scandisk and defrag on the restored drive (no problems, did significant defrag)
- Cleanly removed USB drive from XP system, and drive from enclosure
- Put new, restored drive into the Portege and powered up.

The system failed to boot, saying (indirectly) that HIMEM.SYS was missing. I hooked the drive back to the XP system. Indeed \WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS was missing, as well as most of the rest of the contents of \WINDOWS. The rest of the contents matched the backup. ???????

apparently there is something wrong with your 10gb travelstar, maybe the MBR or the bootsector

the fact that you can read it with a USB-connector doesn't mean that the HD is okay, since you don't need the bootsector that way

I would advice you to wipe it completely ( with cleandisk or boot-it-NG ) , make a new partition with fdisk and reformat the HD to fat32

Than make a fresh install with W98, or better : W2000, which will run easily on a 7220 and is much better

To install W2000, it's best to copy the whole i386 directory of the installation-CD to the 10gb HD ( can be done on another PC with a USB-connector ) and start the DOS-installation with WINNT.EXE

I have problem with figerprint reader on portege Z30t-A-11U - in Windows 8.1 PRO
Problem is from the beginning - (factory preinstalled system)

Several times a week does not respond fingerprint reader on waking or after waking the laptop. (icon for logon is not at that moment to see - the reader will not operate even after manual login)

Such ?occasional? issues are always tricky?
Anyway, if you did not try to update the fingerprint software in the past, I would recommend you to do that?

Furthermore please check if the fingerprint sensor has been enabled in the BIOS.

I'm not sure if this is hardware or operating system, so any help would be appreciated. Here's my problem:
We've written an application that lives on the tablet PC that is basically a timeclock for hourly employees. The timeclock has been running just fine for a week now, and all of a sudden, it's decided to standby or hibernate after 30 minutes. How can the tablet change it's settings like that? Any help on where I can look for an answer would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

I have a Toshiba Portege R830-14M, serial: PT321E with Windows 8.1 x64.

I have a problem with this driver:

Searching in google I found that is "Intel Management Engine Interface". In Toshiba's support web I downloaded driver but when I install the driver, error: "Cannot find support device" appears.

How can I solve that? Where I download the correct version?

Hi

I have installed windows 2000.
Downloaded and installed Service pack 4 and IE 6 neither would install from windows updates.
I haven't put the graphics drivers on yet but wouldn't have thought that would make a difference.

When i try to download and install automatic updates it downloads but says it failed to install them, any ideas?

That battery is about 4 years old, it would have worn out by now.

If it is actually a mainboard fault...
I don't think you can get the chips separately, you may need a whole new mainboard.

Hi guys,

i am experiencing some problems with the 2 mentioned laptops.

The 1st one is:
I bought a used 7020 to replace the broken screen of 7200. After disassembled the screen, I noticed that the connectors have the same number of wires, but one of the terminal of the 7200's screen has a larger socket. "no problem" I thought, and with patience I picked up the cable of the 7020 adapter an put it into the 7200.
But when i turned it on i saw only colored lines and squares :S :S
If you want i can provide the PN, if it could help...Even if i check the compatibility before order.

2nd problem:
Portege 7200 recognize correctly the docking station, while the 7020 emit some beeps before boot, and obviously it doesn't work with him. I checked on toshiba's site and the dock would be totally compatible!

And for last... Where can i find bios updates?

You will be really lucky if anyone here can help you with these old notebook models. I am pretty sure they are about 10 years old.
Without maintenance manuals and enough knowledge is not easy to help you with this display replacement.

This issue with docking station can be related to defective hardware. Both notebooks are so similar and both of them can be used with this docking station. How you can be sure hardware is top on 7020?

BIOS updates are available on http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_bios.jsp but as I can see for Portege 7000 there is no BIOS update, just for 7020.

If you want you can contact nearest Toshiba service provider. they have maintenance manuals for this old notebooks and they can help you offering exact info about parts you need.

im need to know the maximum ram amount for the Toshiba Satellite Z930-12Z. The toshiba website tells me it is selled with 2 x 2048 and you can expand up to 6 gb ram with replaycing one dim with 4 gb. but on the kongston website there is a 8gb dim available, so the max would 10gb (2gb +8GB) is the 8 gb kingston module ( KTT-S3C/8G)

Hello everyone,

As funny as my question may sound ... it's actually serious!
I have big concerns over battery life (not so much of the one of a single recharge, but the one affecting the "life" of the notebook itself!) because there doesn`t even seem to be a way to COMPLETELY turn this notebook off! This feels like a joke for a notebook advertising with an "eco" label supposed to help reduce wasting natural resources (which was an important part for my purchase decision).

When I hibernate the notebook or turn it off by long-pressing the "Power" button, the LED's indicating battery mode etc. are still on, by that the battery is slightly drained even when the notebook is turned off. While the LED's will of course certainly not use a lot of power, it means that the next time I'm plugging in my computer, +a new recharging cycle is initiated+ which could have been avoided without that. With a battery usually surviving 1000 recharging cycles, this will force me to buy a new battery (by the way: what a shame and how "yesterday" that the battery is built-in and not replaceable by the buyer!) within less than 2 years if I plug off a few times every day.

Alltogether this sounds very much like "planned obsolescence" and I am annoyed by the mere thought supporting something like that. And basically I am very happy with the Z930, so the more I am frustrated by this completely pointless battery drain. Any idea how to turn off the... Read more

because my Z830 is more of an A360 the last days than a quiet ultrabook I wanted to broach the annoying noisy fan subjekt again....

Iluminatus23 mentioned in [another thread|http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=271287#271287] that he now uses the new Z930 fan in his Z830 with good results (silence!).
On the internet I wasn't able to find a seller for this fan in Germany. Does anyone of you guys know where I can get this fabulous new fan? Might it even be replaced (for free?) by Toshiba? (warranty & goodwill)

Maybe Iluminatus23 could give us a little more information about the replacement (where he got his fan from / if the replacement was easy / if he is still happy or maybe problems occured later)?

How do we enable virtualization on this laptop ??

Please help I'm considering in returning this latop and get instead a mac, I got enough issues with windows just to run such a basic application.

Hi Everyone

Thanks in advance for your help. I have a Toshiba Protege Z930 laptop.
The button above the touchpad (built in mouse on the laptop) that usually disables the touchpad doesn't work anymore.

Therefore I can't disable the touchpad. Also Function F9 won't disable the touchpad either.
This makes me think it's a software issue. I have updated the driver and nothing has changed.

Anyone know how to solve this issue?

Do other FN buttons work properly?
What driver did you update exactly?

Did you try to reinstall the Toshiba Value Added Package (for Win 7)?
This package contains some necessary drivers and tools which control different notebook features.
So beside the touchpad driver installation, this package should be installed / updated too.

I have a Problem to write any file on any USB Stick on any USB port on my Satellite Z930 with Windows 8: When I try to write a file on the USB Stick the Explorer will just freeze and not react anymore.
When reading from the same USB stick everything is fine. There is no write protection on the USB sticks (I have tried many).

However when connecting a USB hard disk there is no Problem to write information on the hard disk.

I hope somebody could help me to solve this mysterious Problem...

The USB driver type xHCI by Intel is showing the following error:


"This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)"

Can anyone shed any light on it with a solution?

According notebook specification your notebook was delivered with preinstalled Win8 64bit. Recovery image contains all necessary drivers so I?m asking myself how one single driver can be missing.

Have you installed own OS version?
Is USB 3.0 driver preinstalled on your notebook? If you cannot find it for your Satellite try to install it for Portege Z930.

I don?t know what the problem is with your keyboard but I presume that this new notebook model has valid warranty so I strongly recommend you to contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. If keyboard is defective they should exchange it for free.

The whole situation with hardware parts is pretty complicated. I don?t know where do you live and I cannot search whole web to find right link for you and you can do this alone. Google a bit around and check if you can find some online store in your country where you can order it.

Replacement?
Theoretically you can do this but I don?t think you should do this alone. Notebook disassembling can be pretty complicated and without maintenance manuals very risky. Small mistake and you can damage something, especially small plastic parts and plastic holders.

Contact nearest Toshiba service, talk with them and ask for some help or good advice.

Here is my problem (sorry for my english) :

I have a Toshiba Satellite Z930 15X.

For several weeks, it is very very slow. Whether eco or normal mode, it is even slower than eco mode. *Even without any program running*. When I look at the task manager, everything is ok and fluid.

Is that a hardware problem ?
I also noticed that the fan runs much more often than the first few months of use, even with just a word document open.

The only solution I've found is to restart the computer.
After each reboot it is fast as normal, but only for a short time. But at one time or another, the extreme slowness often returns after a suspend.

*I also noticed that it often occurs after a suspend or after connecting / disconnecting the laptop from the AC outlet.*

(I specify that I have just a few programs installed and have no trace of viruses and other malicious software (I'm very careful about that).)

Did you have this problem, where does it come from, what can i do ?

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what exact reason is. To be honest I don't think there is some hardware problem. Fact is that many background processes may slow down notebook?s performance. Maybe some background downloads and update installation can be reason that your notebook react pretty slow.

Check please start-up and disable all useless applications. If you don't use some of them they must not start with Windows and run in the background. Check also Windows update option. Disable automatic update.

Do it please as first steps and check if the notebook runs a bit faster.
Please post some feedback.

No, as far as I know you can use either the VGA or the HDMI output.
To output the video signal to external display, you have to press Fn + F5 and from my knowledge you will get either the VGA or HDMI output.

If you want to use two external monitors, I recommend using an external Dynadock device

I recently updated to win10, but due to some problems I chose to reset my Z930. Unfortunately, I had some lifetime-expanding options for the akku activated so it does not charge more than 80%. I would like to get rid of this option now but I can't find the settings/programme where I activated this option. Could you please tell me how I can get my akku to charge to 100% again?

I bought my laptop about three years ago in Germany. The battery has died (laptop switches immediately off if it is not plugged) and I am looking to replace the battery. I am based in Morocco for professional reasons and unfortunately there is no real Toshiba service here. I have searched online for replacement batteries but can't find any Satellite batteries. Someone wrote on a forum that all Portege Z930 batteries were compatible with Satellite Z930 but the computer expert i am working with thinks i should contact Toshiba first. I have looked for a telephone number but couldn't find any and that virtual Yoko couldn't really get my question either.

Does anyone know if a Porteg? Z930 battery would fit in my Satellite?

Ordering the battery from a Moroccan supplier would be very expensive as the VAT on computer appliances is really high. I am looking to order it in Germany and having a friend bring it to me at the end of the month.

Hi!

I would like to ask how i could reset the bios by the CMOS battery reset mode because it wont work with the bios update.exe that Toshiba supplies for download in the driver section.
I have tried it with windows 7 and it didnot work.
I have learned that the Cmos battery is that orange thing taped to the motherboard.

The reason why i want to do this is because i had my bios unsave without a password for a while and i am afraid that somebody could have infected it with a virus.

A general question: Could some body that infected my bios or loaded his bios on my computer reach my operating system and infect it also or not?

If I understand you right you cannot update BIOS for some reason. Is it correct?
And it is the reason that you think it may be corrupted BIOS?

Hi All

on my Satellite Z930 with keyboard layout set to german (Switzerland), the alt gr key does not allow to access the additional characters (such as @, which would be accessed by alt gr + 2), but instead turns all keys into hot keys (e.g. typing n would open a new web browser window).

A:Satellite Z930 - ALT GR key changes keyboard to hot keys

Similar is with English UK and US where symbols ? and @ are n different positions.

You must simply test which key combination works properly. I have EN UK keyboard and when I switch it to German (Switcerland) symbol @ I can get if I use ALT GR+2 key combination.

Does it works on your Satellite too?

Hi,

I've a problem with my Z930-164 : The battery loose around 8% every 12 hours while it is off.

I've the latest bios (6.80) and the latests drivers. I'm with windows 7 64 bits.

By trying many things, I've founded that it is the option : "Sleep and Charge" in the bios. By default it is on Auto mode (1.5 A), there is a 2.0A mode too. If I turn it off, the battery only loose 1% every 12 hours while it is off.

In default mode, why it does not power the USB while sleeping ONLY if there is a device ? Not to drain the battery !

It is a huge problem no ?

The enabled Sleep & Charge function affects the battery working time.
Sleep & Charge allows to charge external connected devices (like smartphone) even if the notebook is in sleep mode.

Furthermore enabled ?Wakeup? options (Wake up on LAN, etc..) which are available in BIOS would lead to battery discharging.
Therefore disable these options if you don?t want to discharge the battery.

Hello

My ultrabook won't charge, feels like out of the blue, I did have to wiggle the connector in a bit in the last few months but a handful of times while using sitting on a sofa so didn't think anything wrong.

It has been very wet here in Dublin and I do travel by bike but that's nothing new, I haven't been caught in a downpour, the laptop is always in its "case logic" case and my bag carrier has a special laptop section and waterproof overcover which I use if vague threat of rain.

As its an ultrabook, I now realise I cannot remove the battery without a screwdriver.

I'm a mature medical student, my uni doesn't cover laptop support.

i've probably an hour left on the battery. I will put in a warm place overnight and I am kind of up the creek if no resolution

Any help greatly appreciated
