Does HP Spectre Laptop (13.3") support an active stylus?

Q: Does HP Spectre Laptop (13.3") support an active stylus?

I am looking at the new 2016 HP Spectre Laptop aka world thinnest laptop (http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/Laptops/hp-spectre-13-v021nr-%28energy-star%29-w2k28ua-aba), Product # W2K28UA#ABA I am wondering does it support an active stylus like the Spectre x360? I see that it is listed as a highlighted feature on the Spectre x360, but nothing listed here besides that it is a touch screen. In addition, goes the HP Spectre Laptop (Product # W2K28UA#ABA) have a digitizer?

Hi, I have struggled with this topic since the day I received my laptop.  But last night, on TV I saw a commercial for HP's Spectre 360 and the whole commercial was about using an active stylus.   I grew increasingly furious.  I have been told (after buying the laptop from HP) that my model does not support using a stylus--although when I bought it I was told that it was compatible. Is there any chance that a fix will ever be provided?  I have the HP Spectre x360 - 13t-4200 CTO Thanks, Brett

I received my HP Spectre x360 - 13t-4200 CTO one week ago as well as a new HP Active Stylus.  I purchased both directly from HP.  I have tried four times with tech support to help me get the stylus to work.  Despite being assured that the stylus in indeed compatible with this laptop, they have not gotten it to work. The only solution they have come up with is to reset the computer to factory settings wiping out everything I have spent hours doing to migrate to this new laptop.  In asking them what doing the reset will resolve, they do not know, but that is the fallback answer.  I have received so much conflicting and silly information from tech support staff who actually are not famililar at all with the problem.  They have updated the Intel video drivers and attempted to install firmware for the 15" Spectre but still no success. Does anybody know the steps to getting the stylus setup? Thanks very much.

I recently purchased the Spectre x360 (13-4003dx) along with the Bamboo Stylus feel Carbon. Unforunately, the stylus was not compatiable with the Spectre and I had to return it (after reaching out their customer support). I still want an Active Pen/Stylus for my Spectre to take precise notes with OneNote and I want to know which stylus/pen are compatibile with the Spectre (e.g. if the HP Active Pen J4R51AA#ABL is compatiable).  Thanks!

So I took to the internet to find out which active pen that worked best for the spectre x360. I saw some videos and recommendations of the Dell active stylus, so I chose to buy it. Unfortunately, when I'm trying to install the driver for the Dell active stylus, it says that the driver cannot work with my device... What should I do?Please help! ThanksBest regardsLasse Voss

Like so many posters here, I am now a among the ranks of those complainants that active pen Stylus will NOT work with this model.  HP.  Is there a simple answer, a a clear declarative sentence, for this reported problem by many, many buyers? Frustrating things more is a call to tech support. 1st call:. " I can confirm no pen Stylus will work with your model.". Then, "Checking further literature, only three models of touchscreen HP computers are compatible with a stylus". Next call to tech support on a hunch no two answers will be same.  This time, "Oh, yes.  I can confirm all touchscreen models are compatible with pen sylus". Me:. Are you sure.  Second tech: "Yes, I assure you".  Me: "Can you explain why the first tech stated none are compatible then found documentation that only three were and mine was not one of them?" Answer:. "No, don't worry.  It is compatible".  Me: "When "Pen and Touch menu is accessed in control panel, only provision shosing as active is 'touch', not pen.  Does this mean drivers are needed or not activated unless stylus contacts the screen".  Answer, "Yes". Me: "Which is it".  Answer:. "Both".  "Let me transfer you to pre-sales which will have more details on your particular model".  Pre-sales:. "Why are you calling pre-sales", in father-to-idiot" lecture. Me:. I just purchased the HP spectre 360 (15 inch screen) with 16 GB and I7 process. I purchased the active stylus stylet actif pen. The directions say you simply put the pen to the screen press or tap and it will begin working. Well it hasn't. I have googled everything, the driver is installed, I calibrated the screen. My finger works to write, but the pen does nothing. What can i do to trouble shoot the issue? Yes, before anyone thinks i am a complete moron, I purchased a new battery.

Hello, I've been using the Dell Active Stylus (750-AAGN) with my HP Spectre x360 for the past few months and it had been working great.  Recently, the stylus stopped working, despite having new batteries in.  I changed the batteries and still it did not work.  It was the most bizzare thing, as it literally just cut out while I was writing and did not show any signs that it was defective beforehand. On top of that, I checked my laptop with an old Active Stylus that my laptop had always been able to recognize, but could not write with it because of a faulty tip on it, and my laptop did not recognize that pen as well.  This leads me to believe that there is something wrong with my laptop (hopefully I am wrong about that). My laptop is fully updated and I checked for driver updates on the HP page for my laptop pertaining to stylus, but could not find something.  PLZ HELP.

I have recetly purchased this product. I tried a Dell active stylus 750 AAGN with it which did not work with OneNote. Writing with finger works fine. I have read that Dell should work fine, and the problem (at least on spectre x360 15) can be solved by updating a driver or firmware. I was wondering if such a solution exists for the 13 inch model, and if yes, where can I get the driver/firmware from. Thanks

Hi, just ordered the Spectre x360 after a lot of googling around about it's active pen support.  I haven't been able to find the official "HP Active Stylus" in my country (Norway), which I've read quite a bit of negativity about anyways, however I found one named "HP Pro Tablet Active Pen" (K8P73AA) which according to a reply by an HP employee in an older thread (http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Software-and-How-To-Questions/Spectre-x360-Active-Pen-Stylus-C...) is supposedly supported by the Synpatics digitizer in the x360. The official documentation however, has no mention of this. I've also read an overwhelming amount of feedback that a recent firmware update disabled the support for the Dell stylus which many apparently found success in, so this is another reason I am uncertain. Could this update have disabled the support for the other HP styluses as well? Before i go out and spend a lot of money on this pen I was wondering whether someone has tried the HP Pro Tablet Active Pen themselves on the x360, or whether any HP employee could confirm this compatibility. Again, this is the black stylus (K8P73AA) (http://www8.hp.com/us/en/products/tablets/product-detail.html?oid=7530365) im looking at, not the silver/white one found here: http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/hp-active-penThe lack of synaptics-supported styluses (and documentation thereof) was almost a real deal-breaker for me since im going... From my view: No HP won't support other vendor's products unless HP does not have equivalent products.Dell may be very happy for HP (or other competitors) to support its products, it will sell more and laughing to the bank.Regards.

Hello I am having alot of trouble finding good advice and a list of compatible devices for my X360. After reading alot of forum posts I purchased the Dell Active Pen PN556w which was said to work with the laptop and be excellent. I have bought it and it does not work.  I am unsure if this is a drivers issue, hardware issue or what. i Suspect that many of the reviews are for the G1 which has a different hardware componeant. HP have replaced the screen on the laptop which they reported as faulty but I have tried a bamboo and a surface pen on it and neither of them work.  I bought this exclusively for use with one not and meetings and as it stands it is a lovely laptop except for this crucial point. if the purchased pen does not work, then what pens will? Any and all help given will be appreciated.

Hello, I just bought a Targus stylus (http://targus.com/us/stylus-for-tablets-and-smartphones-black-amm01tbus) to use with my HP Spectre x360. Unfortunately it doesn't work very well with the touchscreen; I have to press it so hard that the screen wobbles back and forth. I find this strange because it is very sensitive when I use my finger; a light touch is enough. Is there a setting where I can remedy this? I tried Calibrate, but it seemed to only calibrate for location, not sensitivity. Or, would anyone recommend a specific stylus other than the HP Active Stylus? I just want a simple, non-battery-operated stylus to use to draw and take notes without smudging my screen with fingerprints. Thank you,Chuck

Hello, I've looked up how to get a stylus/pen to work now on the horrendous touch screen software for the newer x360s. I belive this is by installing a new HP FHD Touchscreen Controller Firmware Update firmware from your laptop's specific model. (Although I may be a few steps behind) The problem is that there is no touchscreen firmware update for my 4193nr model.  My questions are: can I use download another 13 inch model's touchscreen firmware to make it work? Or will it be incompatible? But more importantly, CAN HP PLEASE RELEASE A TOUCHSCREEN FIRMWARE UPDATE FOR THE 4193NR AND ALL OTHER SPECTRE MODELS? Lastly, if you guys have any tips circumventing this and making the stylus to work without the firmware, I would be extremely grateful for any of your help. Thanks

A:Which stylus should I use with my Inspiron 15r touch laptop? Will a 'Wacom Bamboo Stylus Feel' work with it?

Hi Shaurya,Welcome to Dell community.
Yes you can use stylus pen with this system.
15z has 15.6" LED-Backlit LCD Capacitive Multi-touch screen, so you can use Targus Stylus with this system which Dell recommends. For further help you can click on the below mentioned link:
http://bit.ly/VoK4ml
The Wacom Bamboo Stylus Feel is the newest stylus from Wacom that a user in that forum said works well. The site, http://bit.ly/WSqVAQ  , says it's compatible with the Latitude 10. Technically, any of the non-battery (somehow powered wirelessly by the tablet) powered Wacom stylus should work.

I have purchased two HP Active Stylus Pens, the first from Best Buy and the second from HP.com.  Unfortunately I have not been able to get either to work with my HP Pavillion 360 13" Windows 10 laptop. The symptoms are as follows:  I pop the battery into the pen and move the pen towards the screen and . . .  nothing.   Nothing happens.  This pen is also supposed to have the ability to magnetically attach to the laptop screen but that doesnt happen either.  I does not show up in the Bluetooth devices as well.   I took the pen into Best Buy and had their tech support guy look at it and their diagnosis was that it was a bad pen.  All they could do was refund my money as THEY NO LONGER SELL THAT PEN!  GRRR.  So I logged on to the HP site and chatted with one of their sales reps to confirm this pen is compatible with my PC before placing another order, however I am still getting exactly the same results, which are a BIG FAT NOTHING.  The PC does not recognize it  at all.  What is even more frustrating is that I cant even call anyone beause the tech support line does not recognize the pen's product code.  I hope someone call tell me what I am doing wrong because I do long this pen and would like to use it.  Please advise

I bought a Dell Active Stylus for my HP Spectre x360 13 inch model because of the generally better reviews than the HP Active pen. When the pen first arrived I had some trouble using it but it started working just fine after about 10 minutes of struggle. I used it two times after that without any trouble. But a week after that when I tried again, it just stopped working. The pen is not recognized by my laptop at all.For the 15 inch model, there is a 'Touchscreen Controller Firmware Update' available on the HP website that says ' Provides active pen support'. But no similar firmware update available for 13 inch model.I am not even sure what happened here since everything was working fine and now it's not. A firmware update would be a probable way to fix it.Any ideas?

I have a HP Spectre x360 15t and my Active Stylus will not work. I have read a few articles stating that this is an issue with Windows 10. I spent some time updating the BIOS and the pen still does not work. Is there any driver or update coming out soon for this pen to function like it did with 8.1 on 10??

I currently own the HP x360 and I have been searching the internet for an active stylus that will work on my computer that has palm rejection.  I first ordered the Dell Active Pen PN556W because I read online it was better than the HP Active Stylus.  I had to send it back though because it would not work with my computer.  The customer service rep that sold me the stylus said it would work with my computer but later when I called back, I discovered it only works with Dell computers. I then picked up the Wacom Bamboo Omni from Best Buy.  The stylus works but it doesn't have the features I want such as palm rejection and pressure sensitivity.  I am also having a problem when the stylus is not picking up all the lines I write.  It said on the box it was for iPhones and Androids so that may be the reason why it doesn't work well with my computer.  I am not faulting the pen for that issue. I finally ordered the HP Active Stylus.  I received the stylus today and  I am having issues with it.  The tip of the stylus does not write on my screen, but I am able to write on the screen with the butt of the stylus.  I called support about this issue and they told me that I could either pay for support or send the stylus back.   I tried calling to send the stylus back and the line was closed.  I don't like HP's business practices, so I will not be buying another product from them again.  It is ridiculous&nbs... Hello, I just bought new Inspiron 7359 with Active Stylus because "SALES REP SAYS IT IS COMPATIBLE WITH ANY DELL COMPUTER WITH TOUCH SCREEN."
These screenshots are the proof of chatting with customer rep. ( Apparently, I do not have original conversation, so I chat with other reps again)

I was really exited about active stylus because I saw this review:

Apparently, it is not working at all.
First, I though I received the active stylus, which is dead on arrive.
So, I went to Bestbuy with this stylus. It worked fine with Venue 11 and 8. (NOT INSPIRON SERIES)
Also, my device manager does not have "HID COMPLIANT TOUCH PEN" or some digitizer drivers too.

Of course, I talked to technical support rep, and she told me that my computer is INCOMPATIBLE with the active stylus. ( I do not understand how this guy also said inspiron 13 7000 is compatiable. Link to the forum: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19614567

Does anybody have exactly same problem with me?
How did you solve it?
Should I just talked to rep to return this?
I am very disappointed with Dell.

A:Active stylus is not working for Inspiron 13 7359?

Exactly the same problem here, watched the same review, read the same forum post and even confirmed compatibility in Dell Chat! Also spoke to Tech who says it is incompatible and advised to contact Customer Care, so I am also unresolved atm.
Really needed a decent pen for Photoshop use, so yeah, I'm a little disappointed too and would like a solution.

I have the ENVY x360 model m6-aq103dx. I bought it because I was told it is compatible with the HP active PEN. I bought the pen and tried it, it didn't work. I called HP for the TENTH time to ask about the compatibility and set up. I was told the active STYLUS would work, so I bought the stylus. It doesn't work either. The packages list which computers the pen and stylus are compatible with; none of which list the ENVY x360. I would understand if the HP "techs" had told me that my computer is not compatible but instead they say "it may be if it has the right digitizers/driver/capability/etc." So do I need a different computer or is there a way to make this one communicate with either of the writing tools I have bought??

I was reccomended somewhere in the community about the Acer Aspire Active stylus should work with the Aspire R5-571T (or R15). Everything downloaded properly, but when attempting to download the Setup Wizard for the driver that claims to work with devices with Windows 10 pre-installed (which, in my opinion should include the R15 considering the Aspire 13 as well as Switch 10 + 11 are compatible) it simply would prompt me to uninstall it as soon as the content was downloaded onto my computer. My only other option was to cancel, which would prompt an error message. My next step was to attempt to use Setup.exe file which prompted me to code the driver myself...? Is there anything that I can do about this? Whether it be copying and editing the code to work on this system, or just.. anything? Because I'm pretty upset considering it's 1080, it's brightness measures at 310 nits, and it apparently can display 109 percent of the sRGB spectrum, and the whole reason I bought this laptop is because I was told it would be perfect for art (I'm a student).  Any advice is appreciated

I just purchase a HP Spectre x360 and the HP Active pen from Best Buy.  Great laptop but I have noticed that I need to press VERY hard before the pen responds. If I don't press hard, then pen strokes appear very light.   When I cross H's or T's the cross doesn't register.   If i put the laptop in Tablet mode, then I can get the letters to appear as expected.  But when Writing on the screen in regular "laptop" mode or "Tent mode", the letters appear as "chicken" scratch I didn't find any settings for adjusting the Pen's Sensitivity in windows or one note. I would prefer that the pen behave more like a finger.  Just more precise.

I have tried changing all the settings in Windows and looked for updated drivers, but nothing changes the pressure sensitivity. A:HP active stylus pressure sensitivity not working on HP Envy...

Hi Brian, HP Envy x360 Touchscreen Notebook has Capacitive screen, that means it responds to electro discharge when we touch the screen bare handed. So the Notebook screen will not repond/bare minimum respond to Pressure Sensitive HP Active Stylus as it works on the principle of Resistive where you have to apply little pressure. So You can check with a Capacitive Stylus as most of the Smart Phones has*.   ****Click the White thumb to say thanks********Please mark Accept As Solution if it solves your problem********I am an HP Employee****

It works in other applications, but I can't get a straight answer on how to make it work in Photoshop from others that claim that it can. Adobe claims I can change a brush's settings, but that does not register. Did HP not design this pen to be compatible or should I be looking into trading my laptop in? Hi all,

I've been holding out for years now and I still can't believe that there aren't more or any manufacturers making good active Bluetooth stylus options for Windows systems.

I'm referring to the likes of the Adonit Pixel, Ink & Slide, or Apple Pencil, which use Bluetooth to relay pressure sensitivity and other data to your system.

What's the bottleneck currently with Windows? Or is it purely lack of interest in the market, where everyone seems to gravitate towards iPads for this sort of thing?

Hi all,

I recently purchased a Toshiba Satellite Click 10 tablet which runs Windows 10 home. I am looking to purchase a fine point stylus with USB charging capability (similar to this one Amazon.com: Stylus Pen, BoxWaveŽ [AccuPoint Active Stylus] Electronic Stylus with Ultra Fine Tip for Smartphones and Tablets - Jet Black: Electronics).

I don't need pressure sensitivity, it is for making very simple diagrams and highlighting text in some applications. It is an item I envisage using maybe once or twice a week. I don't want one that has a plastic disk on the end.

I noticed quite a few have a battery that only last 12 hours so looking for something which is rechargeable.

My budget is "as little as possible" but could realistically extend to the ~US$50 mark.

Does anyone have experience with a stylus that they can recommend?

Any thoughts/suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Given how heavily HP has advertised this feature in the previous generation, I'm surprised they removed it. Hi there. I have recenty purchased an HP Spectre x360 i7-6500u and was wondering if this laptop can support internet gigabit speeds? The reason I ask, is that I have gigabit internet speed through our ISP but I'm getting nowhere close to that speed. Here's a little more info as to how I've been testing my ISP's gigabit speed: - Tested using a wired LAN ethernet connection (using a purchased USB 3.0 to gigabit ethernet adapter) Cat 6E cable direct into ISP modem. Only achieving 300 to 400 down and 25 to 35 up. Where as the ISP speeds are 1000 down and 50 up. The technician that was here this morning when testing the exact setup using his old Lenovo laptop was achieving 700 down and 35 up. - Tested using the stock wifi modem in the HP Spectre and connecting to the ISP modem using the 5 Ghz channel was still only giving me 300 to 400 down and 25 to 35 up. Strange enough, the technicians laptop when testing in wifi as I did above, gave him similar results of 300 to 400 down and 25 to 35 up. So my main question here to the HP technical support team, is if someone can let me know if this new HP Spectre x360 can support internat gigabit speeds. Based on what I've tested above, it may appear that this new laptop is not ready for these types of speeds. Can someone please confirm and/or advise if there are any HP Spectre updates available to handle these gigabit internet speeds? Your support and/or advise would be greatly... Read more

Hi HP techies, I just bought a HP Active Stylus with App Launch (T4Z24AA ) for my Spectre x360 13-4124nf (2016) since I expected I a high quality pen with pressure handling. I knew there was a firmware update required in order to make it run with the Spectre, after reading the US forums. Unfortunatly, there is no touch screen firmware update available for my Spectre model, but there is one for the 15 inches model ! My questions (HP French support wasn't able to answer) : Is there any chance this firmware update including my stylus handling feature will be released for my Spectre model ?Is there any information about a release date, so I know if I have to return the stylus to the French retailer ? As you guessed, an english version a the firmware would by just enough for me.   Thanks for kind help.
