My brothers Asus G75v doesn't boot. When I try I either get a black screen or error code 0xc0000001. I tried the f9 at the start to go into recovery but it doesn't work. The computer had a ssd upgrade a while back and the recovery partition is now on the ssd (i used migration software at the time and the original hdd is still in the computer but formatted). I am not sure if that is the cause that the f9 doesn't work. I took out the ssd and put it in my desktop. I can see all the files and partition. I have check it for error with the chkdsk command but it didn't help. I copy the recovery partition into a usb to see if I could boot off of that but the computer just didn't see the drive. Does any body know what to fix this?

thanks in advance!

Hi everyone, I have this weird problem going on right now and hope somebody will have a solution to this. (I'll try to make it as clear as possible)

I previously had windows 8 installed on my HDD. Yesterday, I bought a new intel SSD 330 series and installed it in my desktop. I then format the whole HDD (everything wiped clean) and start a fresh windows 8 installation on the new SSD. But after the first step of installation were done and windows prompts to "remove the bootable USB drive and click ok to restart". I followed the instruction and after the restart, it report the error code 0xc0000001.

I Googled up the error code and tried all possible solutions such as using 3 bootrec commands, use the repair tool that came with windows 8 installation, running chkdsk on all drives and such. But none work. My last option was to remove the HDD and DVD drive from the motherboard and windows loaded up just fine. Thought the problem is solved, I turn it off to reconnect the HDD and DVD, after that everything boot up like normal. Until I click the restart button. 0xc0000001 error came back on and I had to remove the SSD, HDD and DVD drive from the system -> reconnect the SSD -> boot up -> turn it off -> reconnect the other 2.

Just like that, the error comes on everytime I hit the restart button. I'm not sure if this is a motherboard problem or an error caused by windows. (Setting priority boot option in BIOS doesn't solve the problem)

Any ideas guys? Any help ... Read more

My laptop came preintalled with Windows 8. I did the upgrade to 8.1. Then in beginning Aug. 2015 sometime I upgraded to Windows 10. However I did something rather stupid! Yup didn't copy any recovery, nothing. So now that I wanted to go back to Windows 8, my pc came up with and Error!! File: \windows\system32\winload.efi Error Code: 0xc0000001. So I have talked with Toshiba, which they advise me that its my hard drive and I need a recovery disc. Microsoft is telling me to go back onto their web site and download Windows 8 and then try and re-install windows 8 on my pc. I can't not find where to download windows 8. I did order a new laptop from toshiba, because it was going to be really cheaper to get a new one than to fix my 3 year old pc. Any help?

I have never tried it because I have factory recovery disks & also use Macrium Reflect to make system images.

It tells you on the link that you will need your product key.
They don't say whether it is the OEM or Installed key.
This vbs script will show you both. { If both are still available. }

Download it & right click it & unblock it & close Properties & open it.

Hello. I am running on Windows 7 64bit home premium. My computer has been really weird lately. I have tried recovering my computer to an earlier time but it constantly failed. Explorer.exe will fail on me, and I have tried the src thing using run but it will open and immediately close on me. I didn't have a recovery disk so I just recently bought one. I "think" I made the recovery disk correctly. When I put the cd in, I got an error that the file winload.exe with the error code 0xc0000001 saying the file may be missing or may be corrupt. I am not very experienced with computers so i hope you guys can help me the best way you can. Thank you so much for reading.

I have posted a thread about this awhile ago but didn't receive help. As of right NOW, explorer.exe keeps failing on me when I log into my account and when press the system restore option, it freezes and starts explorer.exe and a pop up about my administration failing.

Have you tried running the PC in safe mode to see if you get same issues?

What machine type and operating system do you have?
Is there any text with the error.
Try the following:
- Boot to Safe Mode, if that works, then it is a problem with non-essential startup drivers, services, or startup programs.
- If no go, try Last Known Good Configuration, then run a malware and rootkit scans.

I have recently finished building a desktop and have been trying to install windows 8.1 for some time with no success my hardware is:
Mobo: Asrock 98ODE3
CPU: AMD FX-4300 3.8GHz Quad-Core
Graphics card: PowerColor Radeon R7 370 2GB PCS+
RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866
Hard drive: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
I have created a bootable USB for Windows 8.1 pro and set the BIOS Boot priority as the USB 1st and hard drive 2nd.
Each time I try it begins to boot showing the windows logo but will then show an error screen showing:
'Recovery
Your PC needs to be repaired
The application or operating system couldn't be loaded beacuse a required file is missig or contains errors.
File:\windows\system32\boot\winload.exe
Error code: 0xc0000001
You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you dont have any installation media (like a disc or USB device) contact you system administrator or PC manufacturer.
Press Enter to try again
Press F8 for Startup Settings'

Attempting to press either Enter or F8 will cause the scren to flash black for less than a second and return to this error screen.
any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

To Whom It May Concern:
Long story short:

you'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have any installation media, contact your system administrator
What should I do?

Thank you in advance,

A:PC wont boot...error code: 0xc0000001

Contact Asus to see if you can purchase recovery media (I've been told that they stopped providing recovery media).
If not available from them, then purchase it elsewhere.

FWIW - you can create a repair USB drive from any Win8.1 system.
Don't bother copying the recovery partition as it likely won't work on the Asus
You won't be able to reinstall Windows with this (unless you can access the RESET function through the tools), but you will be able to run the different repair functions.

I suspect a problem with the hard drive when I see an error of 0xc0000001 - but that's just a guess on my part.
You can try these free, bootable diagnostics: Initial Hardware Diagnostics

Product name: Inspiron 11 - 3147 running Windows 8.1
After my computer requested that I do a Windows update, I did in, and my computer restarted. It encountered an error and my screen with the Dell Logo. it said
"Error C000003A applying operation (GWXUX.exe)"
after restarting, and getting the same error screen, I brought up the Windows Recovery screen, but said I had another error
"error code 0xc0000001"
and to contact my computer manufacturer ect. Then gave me a 3 options, Enter to continue, f8 to open more options and Ecs. Upon hitting f8, there are options 1-9 and none of them work. Each option results in me returning to the Dell logo screen and the Error message along the bottom.
I did some research and found many others in the boat, but often their problem can be solved simply but tapping f8 at the Dell screen to bring up Advanced Startup Settings but that doesn't work. Nothing happens.
I figured my computer would start if I booted it from my USB but I am not able to get my computer to read from the USB stick or a start disc.
I ran Dell diagnostics and everything is fine.
I apologize if this isn't the right place to post this or if this exact thing was posted in a thread elsewhere but If someone could give me any advice on how to get my computer to boot and work will have my sincere thanks!

Hard drive error code 2000-0146
Dell Inspiron 1525 computer. Screen goes black after Dell logo is shown. Ran diagnostics available when F12 key pressed when Dell Logo appeared. Two error codes came up during diagnostics. 2000-0142 and 2000-0146 "Self test log shows previous errors" Co-incidentally an email had been received with subject line "I enjoyed you in secret video" Others have had problems after this email, yet I can't find any reference to it on the net. It may only be co-incidence.
I tried booting from the installation disk. Screen showed "files loading" bar then went to the next screen with the green progress bar for a few seconds, then black and soon the hard drive ceased any activity. After a few attempts now the boot from the DVD just grinds away. There is hard drive activity but no progress.
I'm thinking bad hard drive but it doesn't seem reasonable. It is only a few months old. Ccleaner is used regularly and there hasn't been any lead up problems.

Evidently while trying to take advantage of the Windows 10 Upgrade, somehow some damage was done to a file(s) from my old  Windows 8.1 OS pertaining to a missing, or damaged, file....  \windows\system32\boot\winload.exe  ...  which
in turn rewflects an Error code:  0xc0000001...
At any rate, as a result, I am not able to boot up without an installation disc, nor perform the requested "Restart" to continue with the Windows 8.1 reinstallation because of this Error, and missing file(s), and am at my wits end...
Please does anyone have any idea what my best course of action might be at this point, as I have seeminglly tried everything that I could think of for the better part of two weeks now.
Last night a gal that lives a few doors down checked in on me, because she hadn't seen me for those two weeks and was just pretty concerned about whether I was allright or not, and she suggested that I take the laptop to an outside Technician, but
unfortunately, I am a disabled  U.S. Veteran, and I just don't have alot of money to work with.
If someone could please help me with this litlle bit of a predicament, I would surely appreciate it more than you could ever know.

I have removed the driver, ram driver sweep to remove all traces, downloaded new version from Nvida, allowed Windows 7 Update to find driver and all continue to fail with the same error.

I have a HP650 notebook (Windows 8.1) and have for about 20 months. I ran a battery check and it said to calibrate it so i did so by going into the HP diagnostic test or something by pressing F2/escape on start-up. I ran it fine and it went for about 2 hours and upn completion it said it worked. It then restarted the laptop and i got a BSOD. It read "Your PC needs to be repaired. The boot configuration data file is missing some required information. File /BCD . Error code:0xc0000034. You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media." After looking online for a couple of hours someone told me to run an elevated command prompt and type in the following in order: "Bootrec /fixmbr, Bootrec /fixboot, Bootrec /scanos. Bootrec /rebuildbcd". After doing so it worked and i backed up everything on my laptop. My question is why did this happen. It must of had to been something to do with the battery configuration. Anyway,  how can i stop this from happening in the future? Will it happen again or is it fixed as i typed those specific commands above and it worked or are the commands just a temporary fix or something? Also can i run the battery check again just to double check it worked or do you think i will get the BSOD error message again?
Thanks

A:HP 650 notebook BSOD error code : 0xc0000034

You rebuilt the BCD (Boot Configuration Data), so that should be fine now.

As for what happened, all I can suggest is that some how a file became corrupted.  This happens with Windows, this is why they have System File Checker (sfc /scannow).

Hi, The 24 character error code is a failure of the short Disk Self Test ( DST ) and would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced.  This is also consistent with the boot issues you describe. If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced - If needed, you can check your warranty status Here. If you live in the US, contact HP Here. If you are in another part of the world, start Here. If you are out of warranty and would like a guide on replacing the Hard Drive yourself, please let me know - include the full Model No. and Product No. of your g3 series notebook - see Here for a further explanation. Regards, DP-K

A:Need help with error code 2000-0141

The usual cause is that the hard drive has gone bad... But you may just need to re-order your BIOS?
Have your tried borrowing another drive just to see if it is detected?
That computer can be about 2 1/2 years old... long enough for a drive to go bad...
But if you have valuable data on it, you don't want to mess with it too much... just because it doesn't boot, or is not detected, doesn't mean you cannot access it later to retrieve the data... because usually you can.
It can be a lot of other problems as well, so tell us more about your system and what you were in the middle of?

Hi Support,

On running BIST, i got an error with code  2000-0334 with validation # 3211 and msg: Video - User reported the patterns were not displayed.

Can you please advice on what steps needs to be taken to resolve display issues? I am using Dell INSPIRION N5050

A:Error Code 2000-0334

Hi BALAMUDILI,
Do you see these lines every time you turn on the system? Is there any physical damage / liquid spillage on the system? Does the system overheat?
As the HDMI is working fine, I would suspect the LCD at this point, as the graphics card seems to be functional.
Run the LCD bist - Turn off the system and press and hold the "D" key + power button to turn on the system and it should run the LCD built in self test - see this link for more info - http://dell.to/1SkXNrG
Download the service manual - http://dell.to/1Uzd88M and reseat the LCD cable and check.
If not, the LCD cable and the LCD assembly needs to be replaced.
If the system is under warranty, write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email). If there is no warranty, then you could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ
Let us know if you have any other queries.

If you purchased the drive at retail with a 5-year Samsung/Seagate warranty, contact them for replacement.
If the drive shipped in the system from Dell, it's an OEM drive - the warranty on the drive is the system warranty, meaning that if the system warranty has expired, so has the warranty on the drive.  Drives shipped by Seagate, WD and Toshiba to OEMs carry no warranty to end users -- only drives purchased separately through retail channels do.

Hi everyone.

I've been working on a Dell that had the ransomware virus on it. I ran Sophos (bootable) to stop the virus, because the computer had crashed and is calling for a set-up disc.

Much of the virus was removed, but the operating system won't load. Part of the error code reads like this: windows\system32\c_1252.nls is either corrupt or missing.

One unusual thing is that the Dell site has this machine listed as having XP, while the machine itself has a Vista sticker on it.

The Dell was given to me, I'd really like to get it running, if any one can help!

Thanks!

Werv

The Dell error code is 2000-0146. I don't have set-up discs.

If you don't want to keep the data see if you can access the recovery partition. On bootup press Ctrl  + F11, see if that gives you the option to restore to factory settings.

Windows 2000 returned Error Code 87 - the parameter is incorrect." The 2nd message is the windows error message that simply states "an error has occurred and the program must be terminated."

I had been using OmniPage successfully and don't know what changes created these errors. I thought it was the fault of OmniPage so I tried TextBridge. Seems all OCR software creates the problem.

I have un-installed Scanwise and reinstalled with Norton Antivirus off. I have un-installed both OmniPage and Textbridge and reinstalled. I tried a registerfix program that claims to fix code 87 problems - it didn't.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Due to a power surge, I had to replace the motherboard on my old optiplex 3010. After installing the new motherboard I tried to boot the computer, but I get the error code 2000-0511. I ran the diagnostic and the motherboard fan does not check out. The system won't let me get past this stage. Any suggestions?

A:Error code 2000-0511 (109066)

Hi TEXFAN1,
Reseat the CPU fan and check again.
Update the BIOS - http://dell.to/28uYidk - restart and check again.
If you are unable to boot into windows, then try flashing the BIOS through DOS:

Create a bootable USB - http://bit.ly/1mmhOE1
Copy the BIOS and update - http://dell.to/1NyXDjK

If the issue is not resolved, then I would suggest the fan to be replaced.
If the system is under warranty, write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email). If there is no warranty, then you could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ

Dear all,

I have dell optiplex 390, I am getting a ePSA diagnostic error code: 2000-0415
It also says to check all the cables and sensors.
In order to clarify this, I have taken out the entire motherboard outside the cabinet, and only connected the PSU, Monitor, KB and Mouse.
I have also tried clearing the BIOS, the firmware is an updated A11 version.
But Still, am getting a same error.
Kindly, help me out.
Thanking you in anticipation of a positive reply.

The code indicates that the intrusion switch has been activated, which means the case is open. If you have reset the switch and are still receiving the message, you should check to see that you have the latest bios update installed.

The title pretty much sums it up. A few days ago, I googles something, don't remember what, clicked on a normal- looking link, got one of those "Your computer has 151 detected infections" or something like that, immediately backed out then closed Firefox. (it resized the browser window and basically just took control) I knew I was screwed. Three days later, I resume from hibernate, and it froze. It's never even skipped before. (It's a new system: Dell Vostro V13 32b, abt three mos old. ) Tried ctrl/alt/del to no avail, then pushed power button. It immediately turned off w/o typical shut-down sequence. Upon restart, after BIOS, it asked to check cable and offered:

Error code: 2000-0151 incorrect status 32, no additional sense information.

Thank you for any assistance with this issue. Jim

Hi -

See if you can boot with your Windows 7 DVD and try system repair &/or system restore.

If you are able to then boot into Windows, have your system reviewed by a Security Analyst.
Please follow these steps - http://www.techsupportforum.com/f50/...lp-305963.html

If you cannot boot into either SAFEMODE or Normal Windows, you will need to reinstall Windows 7.

Hello, I bought few months ago a Samsung netbook for my girlfriend and of course now is full of spywares and mallwares. I tried to recover the system, but now I get this fatal error when I open the laptop. The recovery was 100% done but after the computer restarted this error appeared. The thing is that I made a full recovery (including delete all data) and now the laptop is not working anymore. I tried everything I found on internet (shift+f8; windows 7 on bootable usb) nothing is working. I really don't know what to do now, the laptop is unusable. I don't have recovery disks and if i try to run recovery process again, I get the same error.

So, to describe the error: I press the power button, small windows blue logo appears, then the following sentence: ( Your pc ran into a problem and need to restart). After the netbook restart by himself I get this screen:

Recovery
Your PC couldn't start properly
After multiple tries, the operating system on your PC failed to start, so it needs to be repaired.
Error code: 0xc0000001
You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media etc.

At the end I have this 3 options:
Press enter to try again. (if i press enter the process starts again and the error reappears)
Press F8 for startup settings.(I tried, nothing works, not even enable safe mode)
Press ESC fir YEFI Firmware Settings. (here the bios pops out)

I hope that you guys can help me and thank you in advance.

Hi eclipsez and welcome to SF!.
There is not much to go on. It appears you ran into an error that occasionally occurred on Windows Vista installations and was resolved with Service pack 1.
Did you update your Vista to the latest Service pack?
The error apparently boils down to a defective Win32k.sys

You could try to use this procedure (which will not affect your data):
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

In any case you should back up your important data on a regular base, independent from problems you might have with a computer
I recommend this free program:

Hi!
So I recently got my brand new Alienware X51 with Win8 pre-installed. Everything went well and I have had no issues until our apartment got a black-out and my PC decided to die. When the power was back on, I tried turning it on, but instead got an error message. Here as follows:
Recovery
Your PC needs to be repaired
The application or operating system couldnot be loaded because a requested file is missing or contais content errors.
File:\windows\system32\windload.efi
Error code: 0xc0000001

Also I need to mention that I did NOT get any Recovery CD/DVD with the pc itself. What should I do??

A:Error 0xc0000001

Hi Katerina Raylyan,
It appears to be a problem with the operating system file which might have been corrupted because of power failure. You may follow the steps below and try repair the OS.

Power off the computer
Restart the system. At the system logo screen immediately  press and hold 'SHIFT' and tap the 'F8' key to enter 'Recovery' and select 'See advanced repair option'.
At 'Choose an option' click 'Troubleshoot'
At 'Troubleshoot' click 'Advanced options'
Right at 'Advanced Options' screen left-click 'Windows Startup Settings'

Now, at 'Windows Startup Setting' click 'Restart' and allow your system to finish with the process. It will do the repair without making any changes to your important folders.

If the issue persists, you may try 'Automatic Repair' option in the above step and check if it is able to fix the issue.
Hope this helps. Please reply with the findings.

Hi Wendy,
Update the BIOS - A08 version available on the support site - http://dell.to/2ailoMR

I have about a 2 year old Dell 1525 with Windows Vista operating systems. At Start-up begins to operate, it will not allow you to go into the windows applacation. It state it is checking for error codes and trying to repair... This process went on for at least 3 hours. So then I decided to Diagnosis this issue. It stated:

Eerror Code 2000-0142
Hard drive 1 - self test unsuccessful. status: 79
Msg: Disk_0-block 272419891 uncorrectable error or media is write protected
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to correct this issue? I was able to get it back by turning it back to factory status...LOST EVERYTHING...but working. Able to start-up and use, however there is that ERROR CODE that is still there when running to through the diagnostics. HELP!!!!!!

A:Dell 1525 - Error Code:2000-0142

It sounds like your hdd is going bad
Lets use dell diagnostics
boot to f12..by hitting the power button a start tapping the f12 key light and fast
when the menu appears select diagnostics..
run the hardware tests
if the hdd is failing I would do the following
buy a wd pocket passport.
Use wd tools to clone the hdd to the external
Open the passport up remove the usb adapter swap covers then put in the new hdd.

Now put the other cover on the old hdd as well as the usb adaptor ...you can try it as an external later if you like.

Note.

If the files were damages you will then have to use the disks to install windows{last resort as this overwrites the dell mbr? ,,,,,making factory recovery via the f8 no longer an option

Hello!
I am using a Dell laptop vostro 1450. It is about 1 year old. Warantee ran out. I am having problems with hard drive. Many days ago, say 6 months ago, suddenly the pc wont boot! Bios was not detecting the hard drive and so the windows installation window. After a few days i checked bios and the hdd was there! I somehow managed to install windows, it was also booting but the boot was extremely slow. The pc was freezing frequently. And suddenly a bsod occured! I restarted the machine and got into bios the hdd was gone! The hdd gets randomly detected by the pc. One day again the hdd was detected but i was unable to boot. The pc used to show the "starting windows" and then go to disk check. I allowed it to run it found no errors. The system then reboots and when it goes to disk check, i cancel it and the boot process stuck! It would not go further. I decided to go to dell diagnostics. It gave me an error "2000 0151" and told me the hdd was in incorrect status 3E. Pls help! I use win 7 home basic. Hdd is of toshiba. And i dont have money to buy a new hdd.

A:How to fix error code 2000 0151 in dell diagonostics?

Sorry man, but if I were to bet on this I would bet you need a new hard drive.

By all means run a hard drive diagnostic test to confirm this. If you have not changed the original disk setup you should have a Dell Utility Partition. You can run a diagnostic from there. See here:

Any ideas?

Hello All,
I'm at uni with my laptop but have left all my information on my laptop at home ! I have a dell laptop and yesterday it crashed, when i turn it on it shows the dell screen, then a completely black screen with a flashing white curser in the top left hand corner. I ran a test and it came back with the error code "2000-0146." I believe its trouble with the hard drive? It's only 18 months old but i think my warranty has expired. I'm also using windows xp on it.
Is the laptop a write off, or would i be able to salvage it?
Please help as i have a monster php assignment in next week and i need my laptop to work on it!

The 2000-0146 is "DST contains previous errors".

Dell PSA/DST directions and Error Codes..
http://support.dell.com/support/top...pe=&os=&component=&lang=&doclang=&toggle=&dl=

They then refer you to this HD Diagnostics Wizard.
http://support.dell.com/support/top...F290F1B1CE3491BE040AE0AB8E14BF1&treeid=324398

Sounds like the HD, but could be no disc in the CD/DVD drive when the PSA ran.

Error code 2000-0142 indicates a failing/failed hard drive, first try removing and reinstalling the Hard Drive, then rerun the diagnostics and see if you receive the same error. If the same error is received, the hard drive has failed, then you need to replace it, followed by reinstalling windows, followed by loading the drivers and applications.

I have a Dell Studio 1558, its about 1-1.5 years old. Ordered it from Dell.com. Anyways I ranned system diagnostics and got a error code 2000-146 like the title says. So what Im wondering is exactly what does this mean for my hard drive?

A:Solved: Hard drive error code 2000-146

More than likely either the drive is failing, has failed or its not being read in the BIOS for some reason. If you have anything on there you want to save like pix, music, documents etc, pull out the drive and get a usb sata/ide connector and hook it up to another computer and see what you can salvage.I have a dell studio 1555 and if im not mistaken it uses a SATA drive.

I have just recently been having a few problems with my Dell Inspiron 1525. First, my battery quite charging. There was no sign of problems with the charge it just quite. Now I get a message stating that it cannot recognize the power source? I have not changed a thing. Then about a month later I started noticing that my computer will not update. I have it set to automatically update but then when I look to see if it updated, it shows that the update failed. I tried to dowload the new Internet Explorer but it says it failed to download. Also (recently) I have been in the middle of Sims or facebook and my laptop will just go black. Completely shut down with no warning. So I finally do a System check and it came up Error Code 2000-0142, Status: 78. Then it didn't even finish the scan before my screen went black and it completely shut off with out warning. So is this all the same problem? Am I looking at my hard drive failing? Any help would be great, Thanks!!

Hello, my name is Robert, and I'm starting to think that what I've already found is going to require a new memory card, but I figured I'd at least check here first.

My system is:
Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop (July 2008)
Windows Vista Basic Home Edition (Original for system, reinstalled approx 6 months ago for similar problem)
32 bit intel core2 duo processor (3.00 GB RAM)

I had a similar problem about 6 months after I got the laptop, where I would constantly get BSOD. Back then I didn't really know much about the BSODs, so I just did what I knew (defrag, system restore, system cleanup, power diagnostics). The only thing what was any help was the power system diagnostic. It told me there was likely a hardware error and that I had to contact the manufacturer.

Unfortunately by this time the warranty had expired and I didn't have much money to have it fixed either locally or by sending to Dell through mail and then have to pay the shipping fees on top of repair. A buddy who works on computers for the local county said he would take a look at it so he took it and then gave it back about two weeks later.

When he gave it back there were no more BSODs but it was obvious he had completely reinstalled the OS. I could also tell that the reinstallation had not been exactly the same setup as originally installed because several features were missing (though this may be a settings issue, I never looked into it). So it worked fine until about a month or so ago BSODs would pop ... Read more

i've been reading all the hdd helps you all posted re the above error code and tried most things suggested but still not up and running.

first error code 2000-0142 self test unsuccessful status 71, then 200-0146 which i presume is saying it still has previous errors.

originally only got the screen with start windows normally and repair fix (recommended) - both options just flip back to this screen.
inserted original cd, changed load up to cd/dvd, cd opened install windows or repair/fix, chose repair/fix, over 24hrs later it came up with restart your computer, i did but forgot it was still set to load up from cd first, let it start up again, changed the bios to load from internal hdd, it is still reverting to the black screen again with start windows normally or repair/fix again. so obviously not fixed the errors.

i have tried f8 but computer still wont load up properly in any form of safe modes or any other option it gave.

i read about the chkdsk and chkdsk/r etc but not sure where this is to be entered, guess at c:/ but cant get the prompt to type that in.

According to the Dell error code list, the 0142 is "Drive Self Test Failed" and the 0146 is just the log has previous errors. In most cases (all that I've seen) the 0142 says the drive is defective and must be replaced.

If you backed up to a partition on that drive, the backup may be gone too. NEVER backup to a partition on the same drive. If the drive fails usually the backup is gone too.

Hi,
I have a DELL XPS8500 desktop and I have this error code: 2000-0142. I know it means that the HD needs to be replaced. When I chose to boot in partition, I do see the C disk so I'm still confident to be able to recover personal datas at some point but that the Windows booting partition is damaged....
I don't have any recovery nor Windows hardcopy but went from Windows 7 to 10 a few months ago.
I downloaded the Windows Media to create a Windows.ISO on a DVD or USB drive.
I tried to boot from the DVD but it failed to reactivate and reinstalled Windows as I guess the Internal HD is really screwed.
My questions:
- If I install a new HD, should it be straight foward to reinstalled Window by booting from the media DVD?
- Could my damage HD could be access as a ''standard drive after'' as I guess that it may be hopefully just the Windows partition that is damaged.......
Does Dell can supply a Recovery with my Service tag and Express service code?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

A:HARD DRIVE FAILURE ERROR CODE 2000-0142

If you've already activated 10 on the system, you can reinstall it at any time.  You'll need the same version (10 or 10 Pro) you had - you can get the ISO from Microsoft and put it on a flash drive to do the installation.  Once 10 is activated, you have a digital entitlement on the system that allows reinstallation.
It is better to remove the faulty drive from the system and reconnect it once you have WIndows reloaded - to try and copy the data.

We have encounterd a problem with our Dell Inspiron 1525. The problem is when we boot the computer it goes to the Dell logo screen, followed immediately by a black screen with the following message "Internal hard disk drive not found. To resolve this issue, try to reseat the drive. No bootable devices-strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility, press F5 to run onboard diagnostics"

We have rebooted numerous times, done the all F functions and nothing works. Under F2 everything is set to factory default. Have run onboard diagnostics, everything is fine except its failure to find the hard drive. Have removed the hard drive a couple of times to reseat it to no avail.

A few months ago, we had this problem. After rebooting a couple of times, it found the hard drive and was able to start up in safe mode. Then we did a restore to the day before and everything was fine.

Just as a point of reference, the computer has not been moved for quite some time and when the problem occured it was on then went to blue screen, beeped and the problems began.

Can anyone make any suggest to help us resolve this issue. If the hard drive has failed, is there any way to retrieve the data on the drive (not as much of a priority). Thanks for any help or suggestions.

I don't know what is happening how this problem come into my laptop and what i will do as i am having very important data store in it.

Please help me in fixing the problem or either let me know the way how i can recover my data atleast.

A:Error code 2000-0146 internal hdd read failure

Your hard drive has died, I hope you made backups.
If the machine is still under warranty Dell will send a replacement.
You may be able to hook up the drive as a slave in another machine and access the data but it can be hit and miss, there is third party software that can locate data from failed drives but it does depend on how bad the drive is.
The only other way is to send the drive to a lab that specialises in data recovery, but it can be expensive

Hi there, daddywoofdawg, and welcome to TSG.

I had a check of the MS website, and it seems to indicate a problem install of WinXP SP3, while searching on Yahoo also turns up some malware that achieves the same unfortunate result.

When did this problem begin? Did you add, remove or upgrade any hardware or software prior to this?

Hello everyone,

After my HP pavilion g6 crashed the other day, I bought a new and upgraded hard disk, Samsung 830 SSD.

Had not burned the HP recovery discs, so I downloaded and ISO with Windows 7 to be able to boot the computer.

The HP won't boot:

Windows failed to start.
File: \windows\system32\boot\winload.exe
Status: 0xc0000001
Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.

The ISO dvd is fine, I checked it on another computer.

I ave been searching a dozen of fora but so far with no luck.

Could somebody point me in the right direction? Any help is welcome and much appreciated.

My computer was working fine right up until last night, i normaly turned my computer off via the power button, but when i came back in the room it was still on but the screen wasn't, so i force powered it off and left to my friends, when i came back later that night i was greeted with: A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed.
Error code:0xc000000f
When i press enter i get an extra message after a black flash
File:\Windows\system32\winload.exe
Error code: 0xc000000f
This is all on the blue recovery screen that says the aplication or OS couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors.
Pressing enter to try again results in a black flash and so does f8 for startup settings.
I've tryed to use the install disk cmd with some commands but nothing works, any help would be apreciated, oh and with some of my testing i got a locked disk msg, don't know where to go from here, it wont even let me format the disk and reinstall windows.
Any help would be apreciated.

I know that it is a hard drive failure but i dont know how to fix it can anyone help me please?!

A:Hard Drive Failed during diagnostic. Error Code 2000-0142

The drive needs to be replaced.  If the system is under warranty, call Dell with the error and they'll arrange that.
if the system is out of warranty, and you need a recommendation for a replacement drive and installation instructions, we'll need the full model number (i.e., Inspiron N5110, 5521, etc.).
You're also going to need a set of recovery media -- if you did not prepare one when you received the system, you'll either need to download and make that (newer systems) or call Dell to purchase it (older systems).

The first step would be to replace the fan.  If the system is under warranty, call Dell with that error and they'll arrange repair.
If it's out of warranty, we can recommend the replacement part only if you supply the full model number - XPS L321x, L322x, 9330, 9350, etc.

So my computer (HP pavilion HPE) BSOD'ed for the first time yesterday afternoon (running Windows 8.1, upgraded via download from original Windows 7, so I don't have a recovery disc). Along with the error code, the BSOD says that File: \WINDOWS\system32\winload.exe is missing or contains errors.

I have tried pressing F8, Shift+F8, and holding Shift on start up, and nothing works. I know I'm supposed to upload dump files with this post, but I can't/don't know how to get my computer to the point where I can access these files. I can access the HP Startup Menu by pressing Esc on start up, which has an option to display System Information (not sure if below info is helpful or not...):

Product Name: h8-1160t
Processor Type: Intel Core i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz

Channel B: XMM3 0 MB / XMM4 4096 MB

Any help at all is greatly appreciated!

A:Windows 8.1 BSOD error 0xc0000001

In order to access the Windows Dump files, you can do the following :-

1. Download Ubuntu ISO file from the official sources and install it on a PenDrive/FlashDrive.
2. Boot the laptop using the Pendrive. Incase it is not booting via the Pendrive, make sure that on opening the Boot Manager, the priority for the Flash Drive is set at topmost.
3. Once, you are given the option to either Try or Install Ubuntu, click on Try.
4. Open the Explorer in Linux and browse in the default installation directory of your laptop.
5. Goto C:/Windows/MiniDump/
6. In the trial mode of linux, you can do almost everything so connect to Internet and upload the dump files here after zipping them up.

Let me know incase any further help is needed

First my configuration :
- Asus Maximus Gene 3 with latest BIOS
- Core i5 760

- GTX 570
- 120 Go SSD.
(new configuration assembly by hand)

Second the error :
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the case. To fix the problem:

Insert your Windows 7 installation disk and restart you computer.
Choose your language and click “next”.
Click” repair” your computer.

If you don’t have the disk contacts your administrator or your pc vendor.

I've tried to install it from DVD (retail), and 2 different USB Key (with official usb key maker, from Windows 7 x64 via vmware on mac) : Got the same error
Tried to use only 4 Go of Ram : Same Error.
MemCheck via Ubuntu Live USB : No Error on RAM (all four passed)
Tried to format and copy install files on SSD : Still failed.
Tried another hard drive (250 Go SATA) : still failed.
Booting from Backtrack/Ubuntu live usb.

I'm out of solutions.

Hello,

Normally I wouldn't ask this however it is a bit of a weird error because of how it came about. Right I had Windows 8 installed but my hard drive on my laptop failed and so I had to steal the harddrive from my other laptop with a broken screen and it already had Windows 7 running on it but I thought I'd install Ubuntu while I make a Windows 7 USB and boot into it to re-install.

So now I have Ubuntu and I hate it personally and I'm trying to boot into Windows 7 to install it via the USB and I have followed many tutorials on how to make a bootable USB. Anyway when it boots up it comes to a 'Windows Boot Manager' screen and says:

File: \windows\system32\boot\winload.exe
Status: 0xc0000001
Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt

Is it because I'm booting from a USB? The reason I'm doing that is because I didn't receive a recovery disk.

Try creating the flash drive again, only this time using Universal USB Installer – Easy as 1 2 3.

You have to create an .iso from your Win 7 install DVD. If you do not have a Windows 7 installation DVD, you can download a legal copy with SP1 integrated from here: Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River.
Make sure you get the same version you have, Home Premium, Pro or Ultimate and 32 or 64 bit. Note that Basic or Starter is not available.

In the first drop down box, scroll all the way to the bottom and select Windows 7.
In the 2nd box, point to your .iso file.
In the 3rd select your flash drive.
Click Create and off you go. In a little while you'll have a good, bootable Windows 7 install flash drive.

Hello really need your help as i have hit a brick wall.

My new build with windows 8.1 installs fine but keeps crashing not even long enough to create account.

The specs for my pc are:

AMD A8-6600k 3.90GHz
TeamGroup Vulcan ORANGE 8gb (2 x 4gb)
Gigabyte F2A88XM-HD3 AMD 88X
Kingston 120gb SSD
Superflower 300w Power Supply

When i first installed windows it worked for an hour or two then crashed, but now keeps crashing after minutes, and get the error code 0xc0000001 on startup.

Heres what i have tried so far:

Reinstalled windows 8.1 on same ssd and also tried it installed on a different HDD
Made sure cpu was correctly seated and checked everything is correctly connected.
Swapped RAM for another set which i know works from another computer
Flashed Bios to latest version
Run a cpu stress tests using UBCD which gave no errors
even tried installing windows 7 which still does the same

The pc never crashes in bios or when using UBCD.

Theres nothing more i can think of to try so would really appreciate any suggestions?

I presume you have installed the correct drivers from the device manufacturers. Have you tested for a defective component in the system? Mismatched RAM sticks can cause problems also.

core i7, 16 GB, 120GB SSD, 2TB HD, radeon graphic, MSI mobo Win 10 up from 8.1.

Rather perplexing boot problem. I use my computer fine, turn it off. Next day I can't boot. You get the screen that takes you to the screen with the 8 options (safe mode, safe mode w networking, boot logging, etc) but no matter which option you choose, you wind up back at the same screen - can't boot.

I said to myself, no problem. I had cloned my SSD with the OS earlier when it was working fine just for these situations. I put the clone in, access the boot option, and boot from the clone and FUDGE! still doesn't boot.

I put in my 8.1 OS disk, (since I upgraded there is no win 10 disk) get to advanced options, rolled back to a sys restore date when it was working fine. No go - still can't boot. What good is it to have this stupid feature if it doesn't work ?!!!!

So I go to advanced options again, and try the command line. Ran bootrec with various options to rebuild the boot record and MBR, etc. They all say completed successfully, still no go - can't boot.

I've run that dism command, but it just aborts with errors.

previously, I'd run separate disk utilities to check my SSD that has the OS on it, and it showed no errors.

I'd also periodically ran anti-virus (avira) and MB anti-malware. They either never found anything, or they just found mildly annoying things, but no serious problems.

At this point, I'm thinking some kind of hardware failure - if a restore point doesn... Read more

Have you tried resetting the bios to "optimum defaults"? At the bottom of the options you see i.e. Safe Mode etc.....do you see "Repair My Computer"? If yes go in and try "Startup Repair". The other thing I would do is boot to Safe Mode with Networking and then "Run", cmd, from "c" prompt "chkdsk /r" and run checkdisk on the hard drive by agreeing "Y" to mount drive or "Y" to approve run on restart.

I apologise for the typo in the title, BSOD not bdos :/

I currently run windows 8.1. The computer is an Asus S400C. On startup it says preparing automatic repair then after a few seconds takes me to the BSOD where It says:
Recovery
Your pc couldn't start properly
after multiple tries, the operating system on your PC failed to start, so it needs to be repaired.

Error code: 0xc0000001

It then says to use the OS disk etc. Although, we dont have the OS disk since it came pre-installed onto the laptop. After 20 seconds or so, it Automatically turns off.

I haven't tried many options in the f8 section, although i have tried to reboot it into safemode and it returns to the same screen.

Since it turns off after a short amount of time, I am avoiding turning it back on too many times to get the full text.

If anyone needs more data, please guide me through the steps. I don't know a lot about computers but i still know quite a bit.

It happened after word got an error message and refused to start up. She then uninstalled it and tried to reinstall it. When she tried to log back on she typed in the password wrong (or something like that, she doesn't know what happened) and it then went to the BSOD

Thanks in advance for any help
P.S I can send someone a picture of the error screen. I have tried shift-f8 on startup, but it has given me nothing.

You can try these bootable diagnostics: Initial Hardware Diagnostics

A:Dell Inspiron N5110, Error code 2000-0151, Validation-15493

Yes, from other posts on the Dell forum and other sites about this error, the drive will need to be replaced.

You MAY be able to get data off of it, by installing it in an external USB drive, or by connecting it as a second drive in a PC system, but no guarantees that it will work. Depends on how the drive has failed.

This is a very good lesson backing up at a minimum user data to some external media. Backups are not for IF the drive will fail, but backups are for WHEN the drive fails.

I got a laptop Dell XPS 15z August of 2012, and it's running really well, until I noticed today that the fan has stopped and my laptop has been heating up and turning off immediately during online games or even if I'm playing music with iTunes. It stopped turning on since the night of June 1st.

I pressed F12 while booting up my laptop and ran the diagnostics on my laptop and came out with this Error.
Error Code: 2000-0511
Validation: 9216
Please help, i do not have my warranty anymore.. actually i think it ended that night (coincidence?)

Alright so I have a dell inspiron m5010 and it blue screened once then I shut it down and it down and would let get onto it told me to do a disk check and there whats a problem with my hard disk. So I ran a memory diagnostics test and it gave me error code 2000-0151. I rebooted again and got to recovery options and did the dell emergency backup option were it puts everything on my hard drive to a folder and restores everything to factory settings. This now allowed me to sign in and use the computer perfectly fine BUT, it suddenly gave me a windows error message saying "Windows detected a hard disk problem" it then goes on to tell me to back things up. So i move onto the backup process and it fails very single time giving me the backup error 0x80070002. So I attempt to run a disk check again but when I schedule it and reboot it keeps canceling itself. So i did a check using command prompt as an admin and it told me "windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix them". So them concludes my little problem I have no idea what to do from here the hard drive is not making any weird noises which is always good. What should I do?

P.S I don't want to have to buy a new hard drive.

The message you get could mean hard disk corruption, bad sectors, a failing hard disk, Windows files or registry corruption, viruses, or memory problems. First, backup any important data that you are able to. Use the methods described in step 3 of Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 and then do the following steps:If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

Run Disk Check with both boxes checked for all HDDs and with Automatically fix file system errors checked for all SSDs. Post back your logs for the checks after finding them using Check Disk (chkdsk) - Read Event Viewer Log (you may need to search for wininit instead of chkdsk).
For any drives that do not give the message:
Windows has checked the file system and found no problems
run disk check again as above. In other words, if it says:
Windows has made corrections to the file system
after running the disk check, run the disk check again.

Run all Basic tests with SeaTools: S.M.A.R.T. Check, Short Drive Self Test, Drive Information, Short Generic, and Long Generic. Run the tests for all HDDs.SeaTools for Windows

SeaTools for DOS
If you have an SSD, make sure the following are up to date:SSD firmware
BIOS Version
Chipset Drivers
Hard disk controller drivers/SATA drivers
If you have a Marvell IDE ATA/ATAPI device, make sure the drivers are up to date from the Intel site or Marvell site and not from your motherboard/vendor support site.

Check Windows for corruption. Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Che... Read more

Greetings all,

Apologies if this is not the right spot for this post, since I encounter the issue on startup, not technically a Blue SOD, but still a serious error.

Some background:

Dell Inspiron 2200 (yes I know old, but she still runs!), with a 320 GB PATA running Windows 7 Enterprise. About 2 weeks ago (week of 1/3/16) Windows needed to update, so did AVG Free edition. Ever since that update I've been running into this problem .

The startup screen basically says that Windows failed to start, because ntoskrnl.exe is missing or corrupt. The status is 0xc0000001 (one time I saw it 0xc0000098 I believe).

The good:

I do have a Windows 7 Install DVD (genuine). I also used Paragon Free Backup Free Utility just in case.

The bad:

I have tried:

Startup repair
Restore Point (tried it once, didn't work, now surprisingly there isn't any)
chkdsk (fine)
copying ntoskrnl.exe from the install DVD to the HDD
all the bootrec.exe commands (/rebuildbcd says there are 0 identified windows installations, but I can see all of my files, and even when repair your computer comes up before the cmd prompt, it identifies my windows installation)
sfc /scannow

The ugly:

Well, I've checked the boards here and around the net, but nothing works. I was going to see if any of the experts here can provide some assistance/advice. I'd rather try and fix this vice reinstall.

Thanks!
VV5

Hi there,
I have an Asus K450 laptop with W8.1 installed (came with 8, but I've upgraded). Didn't bring a recovery cd, only a recovery partition in the original hdd.
I had 3 or 4 crashes with the 0xc0000001 error, but solved every single one of them by using the recovery tools (usually with a previous restore point.
2 months ago, I upgraded to an Samsung sdd drive and used a migration (yes, I know a clean install is better, but it was easier). After this migration, the BSOD doesn't recognize the recovery partition, as posted in several user foruns. I've saved my hdd in a case to use as a external drive.
Yesterday, I had my first crash with the sdd installed.
That proved to be a challenge, for the BSOD didn't reconize the recovery partition in the external drive (which was the original disk).
I've solved the problem by reinstalling the hdd, running a restore point and it worked.
So far so good.
I thought that it did solve the problem on the hdd. However, as we must always learn I switched back to the sdd, sure that it wouldn't work, for I had solved the problem in another disk.
It just booted fine.
I have everything working now, but it puzzled me. Why have I solved a problem in a disk and it solved the problem on another disk too?
I don't belive in witchcraft and I don't think osmosis has anything to do with it, but would like some thought about it.
Kind regards,
- Ricardo

P.S., I would post the BSOD log, but couldn't managed to save it to the desktop.

A:BSOD error 0xc0000001 - strange behaviour

Hi Rcorreia & Welcome to the forums ^_^,

To most of the users, BSODs are like witchcraft

Do you remember what specific error (Even one) did you encounter in the BSODs? If you remember even a single of the Error which is posted on the Blue Screen, I could point towards something but like you described your case, it may be a problem of loose connections.

If you still have the Dump File in the "C:\Windows\Minidumps\" folder, I would be more than happy to help you identify the issue ^_^
