Y510p two beeps and then shuts down

Q: Y510p two beeps and then shuts down

(windows 10)So i got this problem last week when i turned my laptop on and aafter few minutes of using it just beeped tow times and blue screen came with watchdog violation. After that i just did factory reset and installed updates for upgrading to w8.1 from factory w8. it worked for a day or two. (windows 8.1) Now today when i got home i started up the laptop and same problem as with w10. So i found out from internet that it could mean my ram is failing? Is that it or what?

Hi, I need help again _-_

My sister has an HP Pavillion 524w and for a few months it's been shutting beeping when it starts up and shutting off. We took it to various people and they said that it was the clock battery. They "fixed" it, but the clock still didn't keep time. Afterwards, the computer's power was abruptly shut off and the beeping and sudden shutdowns have returned! Does anyone know what the problem could be? She's ready to buy a new PC, but I think that this one can be saved.

Hi everyone,
I have this laptop chiliGREEN Q16 from Austria it seems (I bought from someone) that is giving me headaches. Two weeks ago it started shutting down on its own because overheating so I thought its time for thermal paste change and so I did but now it starts and after about 30 seconds or so It starts continuously beeping like mad for another 30 seconds than it shuts down , while beeping 3 LED´s also flash in sync (Green keypad Green Caps Lock Green roles). I have tried many things like:
1.Cleaned everything possible (with Isopropyl alcohol and much care)
2.Tried normal and silver based compounds (yes kids I tried Arctic Silver 5)
3.Even gone through the trouble of getting thermal pads from an online store because that is what it had originally.
4. Googled my brains out for answers but there is absolutely none from this unknown company.
I don´t know that to do now , except throw the bloody thing off the balcony . Please help...

How's your German?
The site is there for them,http://www.chiligreen.com/site/ but not a lot about Q16 apart from that manual and my German isn't good enough to search the site.

A:Computer Shuts off then Beeps

I what your describing sounds like sleep mode minus the beeping.
How are you getting that condition?
Are you pressing the hardware power button?
Or shutting down from the Start menu?

What does this option is set to in on your end? :

What motherboard do you have (or what is the exact model number of your OEM system)?
How many beeps are there?
How long is each one of them?
Does it occur on any other actions?

Many times I turn on the computer, it will beep and eventually turn off on its own. The hard drive is not hot either. Please help. I have an Acer vista premium desktop. The computer runs pretty fast so it doesn't seem like I have a virus.

Actually the beeping beeps at random times. Sometimes it beeps more than once/several times other times it beeps once every several minutes or long periods of hiatus. Sometimes the computer turns off right when I turn on my computer other times, it is able to stay on for quite a while.

The beeping sounds like three short/fast beep every time it beeps.

EDIT: Just kidding I just ran a quick scan with malwarebytes and it got 15 infections already.. however, it's hard to do a full scan when the computer likes to shut off at random times. Should I just reboot the computer?

Here's my problem. I noticed last night before going to bed that my computer was completely frozen in Windows, even CTRL/ALT/DEL would not respond. So, I just hard booted down, and went to bed.

Today, tried to power it back up, and it doesn't post. No motherboard beeps, either. Press the power button, all of the lights come on, all CPU and power supply fans turn, and then, it just shuts down.

I've cleared the CMOS via the jumpers, replaced the battery, disconnected all RAM and cards, leaving nothing but the MOBO, processor, hard drive, and video. Even tried without the hard drive. Still no POST, no beeps, just shuts off.

What's the problem?? I'm thinking its either the processor is fried, or the mobo is shot. Any surefire way to determine which it is? No, I do not have another processor or motherboard. Help!

A:No POST, no beeps, shuts down after 2 seconds...HELP!

Could be the PSU? You could try another PSU if you have one.
Also, take mobo, cpu, video card, 1 stick of ram out of case, put on non-conductive, static free surface and test - make sure nothing is shorting out on case.

Good morning,

I have a problem with a client machine. It is a Laptop (noname brand).

The Laptop starts up, I can enter the BIOS Setup and change settings, but when the Laptop is on for about 10 seconds it starts with a series of beeps. I have counted the beeps and they are more than 27, then the laptop shuts down.

What I have done so far:
Cleared the BIOS by disconnecting the Cmos battery, no effect
Removed the SATA hard drive, no effect
Reseated and replaced the RAM, no effect
Removed the battery and started up the charger only, no effect
Reseated and also removed the Realtek Wireless adapter on the motherboard, no effect

The system has a Phoenix BIOS and therefore I can't see what temperatures the CPU is at, but having it open, after I shut down, I can't feel that the heatsink is very hot.

The System has a DVD/CD writer as well, but I'm not sure where to disconnect it, other than completely stripping the machine.

I've read online that it could be a stuck key on the keyboard, but I can't see any stuck keys and have checked all keys as well.

Does anyone have any ideas?

The beeps are about a second apart from each other and continuous.

Thank you,
Kind Regards,

Several days ago, I first received a BSOD, but it was on-screen for only a couple of seconds and so I could not make out the details. After I restarted, I ran an anti-virus scan. MSE discovered Exploit:JS/Blacole.AD and removed it. I'm not sure if it's the cause of my particular issue, though.

The day after, I normally booted up Windows; after about 10-15 minutes, the monitor suddenly shut down, and I heard four quick beeps in a series emanating from the computer, which I was forced to restart. I booted into Safe Mode, then restarted the computer again, and started Windows normally. I had no issues the rest of the day.

Yesterday, much the same occurred, but I remember seeing another BSOD; this one had MEMORY_MANAGEMENT written near the top. After restarting, I ran the Memory Diagnostic Tool. It said that hardware problems were detected, but before the computer could restart and show me the full results log, I got a black screen saying something like Windows couldn't boot normally (Status: 0xc0000017 was written at the bottom, if that's important).

Today, the computer has crashed multiple times, once when it began beeping four times, another when a BSOD showed.

I am having a problem and I am not sure sure how to solve it. As stated in the title, the computer turns on automatically, beeps then shuts down. I have tried clearing the CMOS through the jumper way, but that does not seem to work. I am going to get a new lithium battery to replace the CMOS the battery way, but I am not confident that will work.

I am not sure if it's an overheating problem as the computer has been turned off for hours and still shuts down automatically after the beep. I have tried unplugging everything like keyboard, mouse, etc. except the power cable but I am still having the same problem.

I have tried using an old PSU but I am not sure if I am connecting everything correctly with that one as it has different cables to my current one.

The computer boots up automatically after I switch on the power switch at the back of the computer, beeps then instantly shuts down. If I leave the power switch on, it repeats the boot up, then beep, then shut down problem every few minutes.

then, after a few days, my PC froze! i had to press the restart button coz nothing works, the mouse doesn't move, control-alt-delete isnt working and even the numlock indicator wont turn off (when pressing numlock key of course). i tried "System Restore" even if i didnt installed / downloaded anything for weeks but no luck. i formatted it and installed a fresh copy of XP OS but it even freezes in set-up. i tried and tried until such time it finished the set-up without freezing (after about 3 times). after the set up and reaching the desktop, it froze again. that puts a "virus issue" out of... A:No display, no beeps and shuts down automatically w/o displaying anything

Try booting with minimum hardware attached, e.g. one stick of RAM, no HDD or other optical drives etc., if you get the display then you start adding stuff one by one. That should be more helpful in isolating the issue.

Hello,

I'm a video enthusiast with a problem. When I am rendering video, at some point the computer will shut down and then start making a low-pitched beeping noise. This will persist until I unplug the computer. I have to let it sit for a while before plugging it in, otherwise the beeping will resume when I press the power button.

Based on what I've attempted to read so far, I think it is a power-supply related issue, but I'm not sure. I'm not extremely tech-savvy. Any help would be appreciated, though. Thank you.

Hi! I got a Compaq CQ61 that won't boot. When I press the power button I get two blinks (CAPS LOCK and NUM), which indicates a BIOS corruption failure, and a black screen. I tried to hold the WIN+B keys while starting the computer, but it shuts itself down after about 7 seconds (I released the power button after 1 second). Then I created an USB drive with a BIOS restore, and did this: Pressed the WIN+B keys while pressing the power buttonReleased the power button but kept holding the WIN+B keys until the computer starts beeping3 beeps passed, and the computer shut itself down.  I guess it happens anyways while pressing WIN+B at startup. Hi,
SEQUENCE of BEEP is first 6 and then 5.
As i mention in the subject my Dell Inspiron 1564 is not turning on.When i push the power button, it makes beep sound and no display means dark screen. First it makes 6 BEEPS and after 2-3 seconds it make another 5 BEEPS sound and their is nothing display on screen.
I tried various methods to turn the display on but no one results.i did the following steps to check or to make it turn on. Here i mentioned all:

Firstly i  disconnect all the PERIPHERALS and take off the battery and then press and hold the power button for few seconds....
Then i run the LCD test to make sure that the LCD is working fine...Yeah it's working fine because i saw the color bars.
Then run the DIAGNOSTICS to check the other hardware but everything is working fine

I tried these different ways but nothing happens.Still my INSPIRON 1564 is off and making annoying beep sounds .Please HELP ME!!!

A:Dell Inspiron 1564 Not Turning ON. Make 6 BEEPS first and then followed by 5 BEEPS. Please HELP!!!

Hello Gitesh23,
6 beeps on an Inspiron 1564 indicate video card failure. However, 5 beeps on the system indicate CMOS battery failure. Hence in order to isolate the cause of failure, I would request you to try connecting an external monitor to the computer and check if that works.
You may also try re-seating the CMOS battery and check if the issue persists. Before performing the steps, read and follow the safety instructions in Dell Knowledge Base Article: "Precautionary Measures for Personal Safety". Remove all power sources including AC Adapter and Battery before you remove or re-install an item in your computer. Please see the service manual for instructions on how to re-seat the CMOS Battery: http://bit.ly/14fkggq
Please try the steps and write back with your findings.

Hi, i was recently playing games on my laptop and accidentally pressed the windows button and the computer got stuck and failed. I then emergency restarted my laptop and started watching youtube on it. (laptop was a bit hot when i checked under) and it failed again this time, so i restarted my laptop and tried the diagnostic test and was shown black and white lines of sort. When the diagnostic ran and the screen went black, my caps lock key kept beeping for some reason. I then restarted my laptop and then my laptop would not start and would beep 6 times, then 5 times (video card failure, rct power failure)

I then proceeded to hold the d button and turn on my laptop (before that i disconnected everything and held the power button for 30 seconds to drain static power) and the color bars were showing. I am completely lost on what happened to my laptop and urgently need it for the next 3 days (repair shops here are horrible and charge a lot)

Any advice? i was thinking of reseating my lcd cable after googling a bit, is that perhaps a good idea?

make sure that all of your RAM chips are firmly placed into their slots and that they aren't susceptible to movement in and out of the slots. You could also run Memtest on your chips from here - www.memtest.org. You've heard right about the beeping sounds probably being caused by RAM issues. Good luck

A:Overclocking GPU and CPU in y510p

If you use the Intel Xtreme Tuning utility you can adjust the multipliers but that is all. The CPU already runs way to hot (and throttles as a result) so overclocking it will only make it worse. I did the opposite and undervolted mine so not only does it run cooler but it doesn't throttle anymore so it actually runs faster then a stock one.

Put it all back together and now when I do not have the adapter plugged in it beeps 3 times with a black screen. When I plug in the adapter it powers on by itself (I do not touch the power button) and then it will beep 7 times with a black screen. Can anyone please help me?! It is not under warranty. Thank you

I have a Lenovo Y510p. My warranty expired over a year ago, but my screen recently broke. I've tried to repair it myself, but it still won't display properly. Every time I call Lenovo I get a message to "schedule a callback," and every time I go to schedule a callback the web site tells me I'm out of warranty and won't allow me to schedule a callback. Is there a way I can schedule a repair through Lenovo?

Hey, I bought Lenovo y510p laptop like 2 weeks ago. It is the SLI version of the y510p. The laptop worked just fine when I was playing with it, ran CSGO and Skyrim on Ultra settings over 60 fps. Couple days ago, my friend broke my charger, and I went to Walmart to buy a new one. I bought the Duracell charger which is 90 watts and it was compatible with my laptop. Then I plugged it in, and tried to play csgo but the fps was like from 5 to 15. I have no idea how this happened. I also took off my battery and just tried to play it without it and just charging the laptop, and when I opened csgo the laptop shut down. I already made virus tests and there was nothing in the viruses. Please help me if you can, I really wouldn't want to send this to the warranty since it's brand new and propably gonna take atleast a month. Thank you already!

My guess is that the Charger may not be compatible with that laptop....90watts yes but has it got the correct DC output.

Also you didn't say how your original charger got broken. like was it attached to the laptop at the time?

What could be happening is..when you plug the new power supply in it is not the correct power your PC expects so it disregards it and runs off the battery at lower everything. As when you take the battery out it will not run at all. Easy place for damage is where the power plug goes into the laptop.

Found a possible fix (workaraound) of the famous screen flicker problem. I've tried all of the proposed fixes found anywhere on the web and nothing worked for more than 5 minutes. I also sent it to be serviced, came back even worse. The screen would go crazy when showing high contrast images with a lot of black. The flicker was most prominent when testing the pixel-walk(inversion) on this website:http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/inversion.phpIf you have the same problem, try applying pressure on the LCD frame in one of the corners. In my case the flicker went away. I put a piece of fabric between the plastic and the metal LCD frame and after some fiddling I managed to find a sweet spot with no flicker. My laptop is y510p with 755M SLI and FullHD screen.Try at your own risk!Cheers

A:y510p screen flicker FIX!

Ok, I have an update. The flickering can be fixed with a bit of DIY. There's a band cable attaching the display circuit to the metal frame holding the LCD. This band is glued with some sort of conductive glue that goes bad over time, messing up the electronics somehow, I guess preventing the capacitors from discharging properly, dunno.Try and make your own conductive band, I made mine using aluminum tape, it works very well. No flicker noticeable for over a week.Once again, try at your own risk.

Hello there, I have had my IdeaPad Y510p Laptop - 59369999 for 2 years without any problems, until today.  I started watching a video & everything froze for a good 5 minutes.  I held the power button until my laptop shut down, when I turned it on it said "scanning and repairing drive c". It started up normally, I gave it time, moved the mouse once everything had loaded & it froze again. Then the screen went blank with the cursor working, then the cursor dissappeared. Does anyone know of this is a simple fix? Thank you!

A:Y510P Freezing After Start Up

My guess is that the hard drive is dying.  If it will start, try getting a copy of CrystalDiskInfo (free),  Otherwise, see if you can hook up the drive to another machine to test it and to get as much as you can off of it.

Any ideas?  I also tried uninstalling the Intel display driver, then the Nvidia display driver and then I tried just installing the Nvidia driver (both the provided lenovo Nvidia driver and the newest 331.65). I keep getting errors about needing an intel driver installed first. Suggestions?

Hey, I know there are already a few topics with the same subject, however none have the exact same situation as mine as most are US based. I too have a powerful Lenovo Y510P SLI with a Intel Centrino N2230 wifi card. I am buying a new router for my student room and since I want to buy things that can last for a few years, opted for a wifi AC router (probably an Asus one). But, this laptop won't support it... I looked in the technical maintaince manual to find which wifi cards are supported for the Y510P, there is one Wifi AC card for the Y410P, but according to various posts will also work in the Y510P as they share the same BIOS whitelist. I don't want to flash the BIOS with a custom modded one which removes the whitelist. (I flashed a desktop Asus motherboard to run OSX, went great, runs well, but I can't experiment with this laptop, need it for university.). So I Googled and Ebayed the partnumer and this one came up: Ebay Link, which says "Only for Lenovo/IBM laptops such as Y510P" should be fine right? Only thing is it is 40 USD, Dutch customs will charge 21% on top of it so that makes 48 USD, and the Dutch postal office will charge anywhere between 15-20 USD for paperwork for importing goods. So that makes an total of 68 USD... so that almost doubles the cost of the upgrade...  I used the FRU number for this card: WLAN, WiFi AC+BT4.0, Ltn BCM4352+20702 2x2AC+BT4.0 HMC which is 20200381, and put in the search engine in the "part number" ... I bought one of the first Lenovo IdeaPad y510p. Having a dual gpu made for a lot of gaming fun. Yesterday, the room filled up with the smell of an electrical burn. I checked the underside the Lenovo. It had been hotter. I heard workers outside my window and figured that the smell may come from them. A few minutes later very thick smoke came out of the left air vent and made a column in the air. I quickly pulled out the power cord and battery. Luckily, the house is still standing. I understand that electronics eventually fail. Yet, this seems unsafe and dangerous. What if I weren't in the room to act quickly? There should be some way to report this. The support page to send a message has been down with an under maintenance message for days.

I have the same battery and charger that came with the computer. I've tried messing with the settings and taking the battery out and putting it back in. I've been to the BIOs screen and looked around. I've searched through forms and everything. I'm about to just buy a new battery for it and see if that fixes it. But I'd like to know what happened so I can prevent it from happening again. Did the battery just get too old and decide to die on me? It's been very frustrating.

Hi all,

Last night, my keyboard suddenly decided it didn't want to work. The following keys rarely work (occasionally after hitting them a gazillion times): 0 (wow it worked just now), p (using on screen keyboard, now 0 is not working so I need onscreen to close these parentheses), colon/semicolon key, and slash/question mark key.

I really hoe this is not a hardware issue as this comuter isnt even 2 years old yet, and having a functioning keyboard is kind of essential. Esecially when some of the affected keys are in your assword... Not sure if the 4 affected keys are connected hysically and thats why theyre acting u together, or if this could have something to do with the fact that the issues arose immediately after some Windows udates.

I would immensely areciate any hel ! Thank you!

A:y510p - keyboard problem

Hi Imjustaguy ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Better to isolate hardware issue from software is to make the computer boot on a rescue media and try typing from it . Using an external USB keyboard and onscreen keyboard further isolate probability of a bad keyboard specially if same thing fails in BIOS (like test typing the affected letter in security password  but NOT to save it , for testing only) .

Update us how it goes.

Power cycling is the best way I can describe it. Approximately once a day, my y510p will power cycle all of its USB ports simultaneously, this is the two USB 3.0 ports as well as the USB 2.0 port (which makes things even stranger considering they are on separate controllers). I will lose connection to all devices (for me an external hard drive, USB 3.0 dock, and USB 2.0 mouse) and they will all come up again a moment later as just being plugged in. It is not the same time of day each day. My drivers are up to date. This occurred under Windows 8.1 64-bit and Windows 10 64-bit. There is also no correlation to whether there is a lot of data moving through the ports or if they are just idle.

So I have a Lenovo Y510P IdeaPad, I upgraded it to Windows 10 last December and wanted to downgrade it back to Windows 8/8.1 due to some issues that many said are due to the fact that the model doesn't really support Windows 10 thus I experience the problems. However, since it has been more than a month from the upgrade, I can't just roll it back to previous OS and am wondering if there is any way I can find out what my original product key for the pre-activated Windows 8 so I can perform a clean reinstall with it.

If windows came pre-installed on your laptop, the key might be on its certificate of authenticity. Alternatively, you can obtain the key using third party softwares like ProduKey. It'll display the currently activated key on your system.

I purchased my Y510P back in Q2 2014, it was already on Win 8 when I purchased it. Everything was working fine even after the  SLI issue with  Win 8.1 which was fixed through a BIOS update that was available here in their product support page. During that time I worked more on other things and didnt really notice anything about the GPU and its update. I was able to update my laptop to Win 10 (back in Q4 2015) and I'm currently unsure if it already installed the anniversary update. Recently, I tried some few games and noticed that the second GPU seems not be working during any games I've launched. I ran Unigine Heaven Benchmark and seems that the SLI is detected, checked the device manager both hardwares are detected, and updated to the latest GPU driver. But still seems to be not working. Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Dear Lenovo family! I have bought this laptop (Y510P) around the end of December 2013. I have just decided to write these after long time of having issues with gaming. Also tooday I have just changed my Hard drive to SSD with booting windows 10 64bit from scrach hoping that it would all come to an end however it did not. -I have updated all the software, drivers etc. I have uploaded a RAR folder including my Nvidea system information, speccy system screen shot and all the logs from event viewer.  Now here is the problem I am having. When I start playin a game (For instance CS:GO) at first it is all good:-As soon as I run the game SLI gets activated.-Fans starts getting faster and both graphic cards getting warmer.-After 10-15 minues of gameplay, game freezes, screen gets minimized for 3-4 seconds and eveything freezess then games screen comes back and another 1-2 seconds game freezes then starts back on.- Problem repeates after another 10-15 minutes of game play. What  could be the problem?Could it be CPU speed is not properly working?Could it be because of the Graphic cards? I will be waiting for your help! Thank you all!

Hi folks I'm new to the forums to please excuse me. I'm currently posting from my phone so when my laptop comes on I'll attach the debug file.

Basically I set my laptop to sleep instead of shutting it down and when I went back to resume my work (about 20 hours later) it was running very slow.

I was searching for my 'Calculator' but made a typo so I tried backspacing the letter but nothing happened. Chrome (which I had opened at the time) was unresponsive and so was my taskbar.

I waited a while to see if anything would happen but nothing did so I forced shut down.

I left it off for almost a half hour and when I put it on I got that error 'Unmountable_Boot_Volume' and it needed to restart and so it did but then the error came up again this time it did an automatic repair which lasted a few seconds then it was diagnosing which lasted a few seconds and then I got the following message:

Automatic Repair
Your PC did not start correctly.
Press restart to restart your PC which might sometimes fix the problem. You can also press Advance options to try other options to repair your PC.

I clicked restart and it did.. I got a black screen for a minute or two but I got to log in. But once again everything was moving slow so as the start menu seemed to be working I shut down the laptop. (It's currently off)

Can anyone assist me with this problem?
It would be really good if I can actually find out what's really wrong with my laptop.
Thanks.

Hi all, I have some problems with my Y510P, hope you guys can help me and pointing me in the right direction. A while back in February I decided to do a clean install of Windows 10 on my laptop. This was due to too much stuff on my PC and sometimes I would get random crashes (freezing at login-in screen from sleep, was the most common). Totally clean (no factory image reset (although I still have to partition) from USB disk created with Microsoft software). After that I installed the drivers, everything was working fine. When I put in the ultrabay GT755M, nVidia Geforce Centre could see two cards. Although I had actually no idea if the ultrabay card actually worked, in some games the air from that vent did get hottor.  Now the problems start:Yesterday I booted up my laptop, took some more time than usual. At login-screen I immediately noticed that the resolution had changed. I thought that was quite strange, it became even more strange when I got to the desktop. Strange artifacts would appear. So I opened Device Management in the configuration panel and it showed the 2 GT755M cards, one had a exclemation mark. It says: "this device has been stopped, problems have been reported, code 43". The Nvidia control panel didn't open and gave the message: "no display connected" which was quite strange, as my screen is still functioning. Also the sleep option disappeared from the start menu, I tried rebooting, didn't work.  After that I pulled out the ultrabay c... Read more

A:Y510P - video card problem

The main problem I would like to find out: is it software or hardware related? In the first case I can of course go back to the clean install of Windows 10 from 2 months ago or go back to Windows 8 (or 8.1) using the recovery partition. But if it is hardware related, that's useless. Anyway to find out?

Hi I just did a clean Windows 10 install and I cannot get the hdmi (or the vga) output to work. I get no signal. I have the single Nvidia version.  I tried as many drivers I could find for the Intel and Nvidia graphics but no success at all.  Hard disk was replaced so I don't have the recovery partition and I don't have the recovery dvd set either. Would anyone that has hdmi output working on windows 10 please tell me what drivers are using?  Thanks

I recently got my Y510p Ideapad's charging port replaced due to it getting fried. Ever since then my Y510p has been charging however it doesn't register that it is chargingThis is a problem because the GT 750M within the laptop wont turn on unless the laptop registers that it's charging.I am using the correct charger with the correct voltage, etc Is there anyway to fix this issue or at least force the GT 750m to work without having it register the computer is charging? Thanks!

A:Y510P doesn't register it's charging

Hi Keanane ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would you be able to use GT 750m by removing the battery and just running it on the ac adapter, as this would be a way to bypass battery start up of the GPU ?

With the charging issue :
1. Uninstall Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method battery from the device manager . Turn off

2. Remove the battery and unplug the charger , press and hold down the power button for 12 seconds to drain remaining charge within.

3. Plug in charger and place battery back . press the Novo button (item1 page 7) instead of power to turn on . Choose BIOS setup on the novo menu . Press F9 to reset BIOS default , F10 to save and exit .

4. Check how battery is charging , if same issue proceed uninstalling Lenovo Energy Management tool from control panel's Programs and Features . Turn off and restart , check again on battery .

5. To reinstall back Energy management , download and install from the support site under Power management tab after choosing the correct OS for you.

If the issue persist after doing this steps , you may call in tech support for further recommendation and assistance like BIOS update (available on support site) or possible service

You can make a shortcut of the clocks using the program and then just start the program and execute the Clocks shortcut before playing. I had been struggling with playing CS:GO on SLI for 1.5-2 years maybe. I had resorted to playing with SLI off, but always knew I could get more FPS if I just managed to get SLI to work. And now it does. Is the system able to boot into Safe-Mode when its in the Windows 8 recovery menu?
When the recovery menu appears go to TroubleShoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Press the Restart Button.

When it loads up again you'll be met with the a screen with options, Press F5 to boot into Safe-Mode With Networking, navigate to C:\Windows\minidumps and copy all files there to a Zip archive folder and upload them to the forum in your next post.

Hello, I bought a Y510P (SLI version) 2,5 years ago (yes, warranty is now expired) and my keyboard stopped working. Two rows of the keyboard didn't respond and after resetting and updating my laptop, contacting lenovo and I had to reset and update another time the problem was still there. Lenovo recommended a repair for my laptop. I declined it because I wanted to see if there were faster/cheaper/better options near my location. Next I searched for a local fast and cheap repair center to repair my laptop because my warranty was over so I had to pay anyway. I found one, send my laptop and a while later they told me it was the keyboard controller chip on the motherboard that was faulty. To repair that they had to replace the whole motherboard. Cost? Around 60% of my original purchase price. Way to much for a student. Went to Lenovo again with this information but of course they couldn't tell me more without a diagnose from their own but I don't want to spend another ?50 on a diagnose. This joke costs me a lot for just the diagnose, let alone the repair.  So my question, does anyone know something about these laptops and do you know if it could be this chip and can it be repaired/replaced instead of a whole motherboard? And, does anybody has experience with the cost of replacing a motherboard with Lenovo? Price in the Lenovo shop for a laptop is just over ?300,- and I don't want to get another offer to repair my laptop voor ?700.  It's sad... Read more

Hi Guys, I have Lenovo Y510P with Windows 10 and i recently installed a new MyDigitalSSD 256GB in the M.2 slot (instead of the 24GB cache ssd) and i'm using the ssd as my main drive for OS and programs. I'm getting reandom freezes during regular operation, I can still move my mouse duriing those freezes but that's it, it won't unfreeze unless I do an hard reset.. Those freezes happen only when the OS is running from the SSD, when I'm I run a copy of that OS from the HDD, it doesn' happen ad everything works. Before installing the ssd, every cache software was uninstalled and i even tried a fresh new clean win10 install on the ssd but the freezes still happens. I read and tried LOTS of solutions (checking for errors in the ssd, disabling SLI, disabling LPM, etc.) but nothing helps. I'm really desperate for a solution, Doesn any one has an idea on what is the problem?

what i understood is that slot you got there isnt meant for a big SSD :/ so thats probably why os freezes some times it's a cache slot meant for small sized ssd cache drives if understood it right.

Hi there. I'm just hoping that I can find the solution as soon as possible. So I tried playing some casual games yesterday and all of a sudden the game froze and the image started tearing apart. Next thing you know it, the screen went blank. So I force shut down it and reboot, but after the Lenovo logo, the screen goes blank. There's a faint glow, but there's no image or cursor. Could it possibly be that the GPU crashed and there's no graphic to power the display? Or should I try entering Recovery Mode or Safe Mode to switch the display graphic to Intel HD? Besides, how do I enter Safe/Recovery Mode since I'm on Windows 10. Any help would be much appreciated.

Just realized my dvd drive does not play DVDs since I upgraded to win 10. It doesn't even recognize dvds, showing me only a desktop.ini file instead. It plays CDs just fine and it burns DVDs as storage device, though it **may** only be burning them as a CD, haven't really tested it. I would like to get an updated driver from lenovo, but I can't get past the Q&A session, it either doesn't know my laptop or thinks I'm running win 8.1 or 7. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Mike

Some day I was using my laptop and then left it on for a while because I have to do something else (I left it for about two hours). When I came back the laptop was dead (at least I thought that because it was not charging the battery nor starting up with the charger plugged in). A couple of days after that I tested the laptop again, plugged in the charger and it was charging again the battery. I could start the system fine. After a reboot the system was not charging again, but the battery had some charge so I could start the laptop again. In summary, there's not problem with the battery (there is power going from the battery to the motherboard), there is no power going from the charger to the battery (sometimes it does, sometimes don't, but the most times don't). With the battery unplugged and the charger plugged in there is no power going to the motherboard. battery and no charger -> ok, power to the motherboardbattery + charger -> sometimes works, but almost neverno battery, only charger -> does not work Power jack tested and it's ok. Charger tested and it's ok. Also trackpad stopped working, windows does not recognize it. Thanks for your help and sorry for the long post.

Hello, I'm new to Lenovo and I'm about to buy one of the Y510P (59373392) with single graphics and the 1TB version. The last question I've got is whether it is possible to install an additional SSD via the DVD slot-in. I don't need the DVD drive, so it would be wonderful to install a 128GB or 256GB SSD. I've read some topics and saw that the motherboard doesn't have a mSATA connection but it must have a NGFF connection if I'm right. Since I'm not very experienced with laptops, here are a few more questions 1) If it is possible to install an additional SSD, what products are available?2) Where do I get the UltraBay adapter?3) Would it then be possible to make the SSD the bootable drive? Thanks in advance!

A:Y510P 59373392: SSD upgrade via UltraBay?

hi thewavelength,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

You can use a caddy for this.
http://hddcaddy.com/en/lenovo-ibm-hdd-caddy/432-lenovo-ideapad-y510p-hdd-caddy.html

But the SSD you can use here is a 2.5 SSD not the msata one.
  this kind :
       http://www.crucial.com/store/ssd.aspx

ODD can be set as primary boot and should be able to boot windows from it.
BIOS has to be set to legacy.

Hope this helps,
Cheers!

Hello 8-forums.

I'm posting on behalf of my little brother since he isn't the sharpest when it comes to computers. Today his computer started freezing and crashing out of nowhere at completely random times. I couldn't pinpoint an activity he was doing which might have caused it.

On top of that a pop-up kept coming up on his screen about his screen driver having crashed and has been restored. I happen to have the same laptop and I've had this problem for a week or 2 too, but nothing happens when it shows up on my screen (unlike his, where it crashes the computer). His screen now also has blue matrix-like lines all over his screen as a result of todays crashes.

I asked him to send the Zip-file from the DM log collector tool. He only had a BSoD once and he didn't notice the error code. The rest were freezes (forced to restart) and crashes (no BSoD screen).

Hope you can help find a solution to my brothers problem.
Regards Jens and Walther

Hi Snejxjens,

Welcome to the 8forums.

Please remove some files to increase the free space to at least 10-15%.
Every partition needs at least 10-15% free space so Windows can do its thing in the background.
   Warning
Less free space could cause BSOD's

Please remove / disable items from the startup in taskmanager
These programs could interfere with the boot process giving you trouble and increase the boot time.

Please uninstall everything of Nvidia using Display Driver Uninstaller and install new drivers from the manufacturer.

Have you updated your video card drivers with the latest drivers from the Nvidia website?  Have you monitored your GPU temperatures to see if either of your GPUs are overheating?  You can try using GPU-Z to monitor your GPUs while gaming.

BSOD-xperts:
I've suddenly been afflicted with BSOD's on my Lenovo Y510P running Win 8.1. Everything was fine until about 2 weeks ago and then I started experiencing multiple BSOD's to the point that I had to boot in SafeMode. After doing some research, it looked like the issues were related to video (NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M) and wireless/bluetooth drivers. I upgraded all of those and everything was fine for a week until this morning when I got another BSOD. After looking for the bug check that it reported, I stumbled on this forum and saw some excellent responses so I thought I'd give it a whirl. I downloaded BlueScreenView and ran that and I've attached the output. I have also attached output from the MiniToolBox tool. I also tried to upload the mini-dump files but I get a message saying I'm "not permitted to upload this kind of file" but I'm happy to do so if I'm allowed to.  Here is a link the output from the Speecy tool as well - http://speccy.piriform.com/results/j7BzfFXyiX3xHgrhWQqHjXV. Would someone be so kind as to give it a look and let me know your thoughts? Thanks!
