Hello, for professional purposes I plan to upgrade the existing 8gbof available RAM on my laptop to 12gb or 16gb, depending on price range. I know next to zero about RAM consideration for optimal compability/performance. I uploaded two images of the currently installed RAM cards. There are still 2 slots available, could someone point me to recommended/compatible RAM cards? (If I can order it from amazon, the better). Thank you for the support.?

Have you updated your video card drivers with the latest drivers from the Nvidia website? Have you monitored your GPU temperatures to see if either of your GPUs are overheating? You can try using GPU-Z to monitor your GPUs while gaming.

Hi. This is my first post on Lenovo forums. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I don't know much about computers and I'm about ready to hurl my new Yoga 900 (high definition display 3200 by 1800 resolution) over a cliff and jump with it! I've had it for three weeks, and recently spent a few days setting it up with my apps and files ready for work. When the display is working properly it's beautiful. But, coincidence or not?, when Windows 10 (home) updates have downloaded, the screen has become hazy with very unnatural colours. Too much yellow and red in the mix, and the whole image is very hazy. It came good for several days, but yesterday when there were some more updates, it's hazy again, and seems to be staying that way. Ugh!! I don't know if it's the Windows updates causing the issue, but it seems to happen at around the same time.. I tried updating the Display Adapter driver with the one for the Yoga 900 currently available on the Lenovo download site (Intel graphics driver released 13 May, Version 20.19.15.4364) but after downloading and going through the install process smoothly, I get a message saying that Windows has determined that the current one is the best, and the downloaded one is not verified by the computer manufacturer. **bleep**? It's Lenovo that's made this new driver available on their download website!! Why won't... So since christmas is coming, I was thinking it would be cool to upgrade my 8gb RAm to 16gb My question is: what kind of memy card I need to my lenovo ideapad y510p? and do I need to change my old memory card aswell if im buying new one? Also is it easy to change those RAM cards ?

A:Lenovo Ideapad y510p - memory upgrade

They're RAM sticks, not cards, and they're fairly easy to change out. I would suggest looking for something in the 1866mhz speed, though I think you need lower voltage memory. So I'd get something 1.35v or lower.

Hello.I am the owner Lenovo IdaePad y510p Intel i5 4200m.Not so long ago I bought a i7 processor 4810MQ.Both the i5 4200m and i7 4810MQ work on the Socket G3 also known as RPG 946B/947 or FCPGA 946 but with the difference that the intel i5 4200m has a TDP of 37W and Intel i7 4810MQ has a TDP of 57W.So after update the BIOS to version 3.08 willingly I took up the replacement processor. To my surprise, after an exchange with i5 to i7 4200m 4810MQ laptop will not turn on, for a short time (1 to 3 seconds) shone on the white button "power" but immediately afterwards extinguished.I suspect that it is a voltage input to the processor, but the BIOS is not possible because the feature voltage change is not visible / hidden. I hit it on:https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/3546-lenovo-y410p-y510p-unlocked-bios-wlan-white...but it seems to me such output last resort, and I wanted to ask what to do now.I do not want to believe that the 300W power supply does not could handle the additional 20W per processor. What to do in my Lenovo IdeaPad y510p to use Intel i7 4810MQ?I'm sorry for his handling of English who constantly grind. Thanks!!!

If you mean the factory recovery files try Lenovo for a recovery disc set if available. If you mean for the OS alone just download the MEDIA CREATION TOOL from microsoft which you will use to download the OS installer. As to drivers go to the download site for your unit to download them.

This has been an exhausting day! I've been trying to figure this out for quite awhile.

To start, I'll post some information.

My webcam was working fine yesterday! I tried doing a system reboot to the the week before that and alas the issue prevailed. My internal webcam is not being registered by my laptop!

So the solution that seemed obvious enough was to check my drivers, update them if necessary. Which I ended up doing. Alas, the issue prevailed.

Checking the device status, I received the error "Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)

To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer." The device is currently registered as 'Unknown device' as I uninstalled the driver. I was receiving the same error when I did have the original drivers though.
Looking up what the error means, it meant that the device was disconnected. I'm not entirely sure how this could happen though with an internal laptop. I also need to get a new copy of the drivers (Which don't seem to be registering the device upon installation).

Anyway any help would be appreciated as this has become a huge headache for me, and i just want to skype with my friend!

A:Need help with internal webcam drivers for Lenovo Ideapad y510p.

It might be that the webcam has failed if everything else has been tried.you can take it somewhere and have it looked at but im not even sure they can be fixed when they go. it might be cheaper just to get an external webcam such as a logitech.

Hello, I only found out after purchasing the Y510P laptop that it for some strange reason does not support 5Ghz networks, only 2.4Ghz. This results in me having insanely slow connection every single night around peak hours (7-11pm), and I'm unable to do anything like watching movies, playing games or download stuff. Does anyone know exactly how to upgrade the wireless card on this laptop so it supports 5Ghz networks? Do I have to go out and buy another wireless card, or is it software upgrades like drivers only? I'm not a computer major so a walkthrough would be appreciated. Thanks.

I recently updated my Lenono Ideapad Y510P to Windows 10, and after a couple of weeks, I started having this wierd problem with my sound. For some reasons, I always had 2 sound outputs, 1 actually being my speaker, and the other being a random "fictional" speaker. However the fictional speaker was set as default to play some of programs, for an example Counter Strike, which resulted in me not being able to hear what was going on in CS. I tried to deactive the "fictional" speaker in the playback options, but for some reason I couldn't deactive it .. So of course, I uninstalled my drivers, and tried reinstalling. However, my big problem now is, I can't install the driver again. I tried both downloading the driver from your website, downloading the Realtek Audio Driver specifically for my computer (however it was for Windows 8.1, no newer version), and I tried downloading the driver from Realteks own website for Windows 10. Both did in fact start the installation, but after saying "You need to restart in order for the driver to work (or something like that)", nothing happened. I didn't have the driver, nor the Realtek program and worst of all, my sound still isen't working .. Is this a virus, or am I just missing something really important? I hope someone's able to help me! And i hope I posted this in the right forum, if not, someone please move it to the right one

From about 3 weeks ago, my Lenovo Y510p (GT 750M Sli, purchased in 2013) started to make this weird grinding/buzzing sound at random times on the CPU side of the fan. It was barely noticeable if I had headphones on at first, but starting from the second week the noise and vibration of it grew louder. After doing some research for possible fixes, I have tried the method openining Energy Management and running the Dust Removal feature to temporary solve the problem. However, that method only worked for about a week, and starting from the third week the buzzing remains very consistent even after I run Dust Removal several times. Does anyone here know what is the problem exactly? I know for other models, people have been able to solve the problem by updating their BIO driver provided by the website. But all Y510p users seen to have that problem early enough to just get a refund or send it back for exchange/repairment using their then still active warranty. I would like to know if there's any way that I can fix this without having to spend money for the fix when it is proven it is the company side issue since even fresh new purchases of the same model ran into the same exact problem within days.

Hello.

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p and it has erratic BSOD behavior, usually after sleep mode, but not always. Would love to get to the bottom of it and appreciate any help you can provide!

I've attached the necessary file as per the BSOD posting instructions.

Thanks,
Alexander

A:BSOD on Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p, after sleep mode usually

Only 48 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 60 to 80 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

Don't worry about the specific number, it's just important that you have checked and installed any updates that were available.

The memory dumps blame usbccgp.sys, but MSINFO32 lists ks.sys (kernel streaming of video driver)
And this seems to happen during a power down event (such as power off/hibernate/sleep/etc)

Finally, what applications do you delay using Startup Delayer?
What USB devices do you have connected?

I'm concerned about your version of Diskkeeper as it dates from Jan 2013 - well before Win8.1 was released.
Can you update it? If not, please uninstall it while we're troubleshooting.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

You may not find an update for this one, if so, just leave it be:

I have a lenovo ideapad y510p and everything was fine until for I thought I'd do the battery reset in the lenovo energy management,at first the battery was dead and laptop wouldnt turn on,,I found one way around this which is that first I take the battery out and then insert the ac adapter, the laptop turns on then I put it in hibernate while I insert battery after which it seems to charge but only after I do these steps, but if I take the adapter out and insert it back in,it would stop charging.this is all because of the lenovo energy management software battery reset.I've uninstalled it but it doesnt work.any suggestions?I'm guessing one of the steps after full charge during the battery reset the battery gets drained where it says "plugged in and not charging" until it reaches zero is the problem.

Hi, My ~3 year old ideapad purchased from Newegg seems to have gone south. I have Windows 8.1 installed. Last night I shut it off to bring it to class and when I got to class and tried to boot up, it wouldn't finish starting up, would sit at the logo screen for about 30 seconds before shutting down and starting over. The fans power up like it is going to start. It repeats this loop indefinitely. I tried holding the reset button next to the charger port and still nothing. Suggestions? Thanks

Hi all,

Last night, my keyboard suddenly decided it didn't want to work. The following keys rarely work (occasionally after hitting them a gazillion times): 0 (wow it worked just now), p (using on screen keyboard, now 0 is not working so I need onscreen to close these parentheses), colon/semicolon key, and slash/question mark key.

I really hoe this is not a hardware issue as this comuter isnt even 2 years old yet, and having a functioning keyboard is kind of essential. Esecially when some of the affected keys are in your assword... Not sure if the 4 affected keys are connected hysically and thats why theyre acting u together, or if this could have something to do with the fact that the issues arose immediately after some Windows udates.

A:y510p - keyboard problem

Hi Imjustaguy ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Better to isolate hardware issue from software is to make the computer boot on a rescue media and try typing from it . Using an external USB keyboard and onscreen keyboard further isolate probability of a bad keyboard specially if same thing fails in BIOS (like test typing the affected letter in security password but NOT to save it , for testing only) .

Update us how it goes.

Hello, I bought a Y510P (SLI version) 2,5 years ago (yes, warranty is now expired) and my keyboard stopped working. Two rows of the keyboard didn't respond and after resetting and updating my laptop, contacting lenovo and I had to reset and update another time the problem was still there. Lenovo recommended a repair for my laptop. I declined it because I wanted to see if there were faster/cheaper/better options near my location. Next I searched for a local fast and cheap repair center to repair my laptop because my warranty was over so I had to pay anyway. I found one, send my laptop and a while later they told me it was the keyboard controller chip on the motherboard that was faulty. To repair that they had to replace the whole motherboard. Cost? Around 60% of my original purchase price. Way to much for a student. Went to Lenovo again with this information but of course they couldn't tell me more without a diagnose from their own but I don't want to spend another ?50 on a diagnose. This joke costs me a lot for just the diagnose, let alone the repair. So my question, does anyone know something about these laptops and do you know if it could be this chip and can it be repaired/replaced instead of a whole motherboard? And, does anybody has experience with the cost of replacing a motherboard with Lenovo? Price in the Lenovo shop for a laptop is just over ?300,- and I don't want to get another offer to repair my laptop voor ?700. It's sad... Read more

My keyboard is acting strangely. A couple of the letter keys are malfunctioning. For example: both the ’e’ and ’r’ will skip when using my word processor. The ‘r’ will also change the paragraph writing alignment from justify to center or left. While in the web, the ’e’ will skip and then open up the ‘search’ window while the ‘r’ will skip and close the web page. This is all odd and very aggravating. I have also changed keyboards twice, and all contained the same problem. Any answers would be helpful. Thanks.

Greetings fellow techists,

I've been having some issues with my laptop keyboard of late, and I would appreciate your input if you have a few mins to spare. I'll break it down to keep it simple:

Laptop: DELL XPS 17 L702X, bought in early 2011. So now a good 5yrs+ old. In great condition. Has not suffered from any major issues since purchase.

Issue: Some keys have begun not responding at times. Either whilst doing capitals or not. Then when functionality returns (approx 5-10s later) keyboard often double types. When backspacing to correct, it double backspaces. Issue stops for a short period, back to normal, and then picks up again at any given time. Keys include T, Backspace, N. Perhaps even others.

Appreciate any advice. I have a sneaking feeling the keyboard needs replacing. No virus or malware detected by AVG and Malwarebytes.

Thanking you in advance,

Yorick

A:Keyboard malfunction

You could remove the keyboard and reseat the connector, but I would just go ahead and replace it since you would be removing it anyway. Some keyboards last longer but getting five years of solid use out of it is pretty good in my book.

IE.. if he presses 'p' he gets '/p'.. if he presses 'w' he gets \w.. if he.. goes on for about a dozen keys.

Thought a substance is interfering (sticking the keys), but the keys pressed are not only apart from each other they are also combinationkeys.. e.g. z= 'ctrl+a' then z

I tried...
* Antivirus scan (norton) (nothing)
* Anti malware scan (malware bytes) (nothing)
* Anti spyware scan (spybot) (nothing)
* Uninstall then reinstall Keyboard (fail)
* Change keyboard layout from US to random others (fail)
* Recover to "out of box" (fail)
(I figured the registry would be instance specific and not persist through the "Recover to 'Out of Box'" reset.)
* The 'error' continues into the bios. I just accessed and began creating password and the letters type incorrectly there as well..
Hardware issue?
Now I think I should try reinstall separately downloaded chipset drivers bios etc...

I now thought 'Hardware Issue' except I used a keyboard layout creator and custom made a simple layout following the US keyboard standard and all the keys work just as they should. Open the US layout and back to duD :s

Looks like you have the Fn key enabled. Try pressing it (if you can find it) and see how it goes.

I will use my keyboard, eventually the keyboard will not work. For instance I will press the h key and the find window will appear. You know if you press CTRL-f you can search for text or find text. Other keys will also open other commands I am not familiar with. After I reboot my computer, everything works fine. However it starts all over after a time of using the keyboard. Does anyone have a idea of what is wrong with my computer?

Hello, my laptops keyboard has stopped working properly. 'U' now types 4, 'I' 5, 'J' 1, 'K' 2, 'L' 3, 'M' 0 etc. The only buttons effected by this are the ones with numbers on the letter, so not e, r, t etc.

Any help would be appreciated!

A:Keyboard Malfunction

Find a button with "Num Lock" written on it, push that button while holding down the "Fn" or "Function" on it. This should stop the behaviour.

E: there could also be a dedicated button for the num lock, if so, just press that.

I've looked around everywhere, and finally decided to try here.

My desktop's keyboard is broken at the moment, most likely from being plugged and unplugged so often. I plugged it in yesterday, the Caps, Num, and Scroll lock lights flashed once then went out. After this it usually works, but lately it has been deactivating itself when plugged in. I usually plug and unplug several times, and it starts working, but no dice this time. I've literyall plugged/unplugged the accursed thing 50 times recently. There are no prongs missing from the plug, nothing in the outlet (vacuumed the dust over the computer yesterday, went over the plug also, but still no go.)...

Asked my friend, he reccomended just buying a new keyboard, but I'm trying to save money. Also, if the new keyboard din't work, then I'd have to get the desktop fixed up. (never trusted warranties.)

Please reply soon, I am going to wipe the computer with the Windows disk soon, and I don't want to lose my files (249 track music collection, 2 gigabyte photo collection, etc)

Running an Emachine Model T3265 i it maters. Using the keyboard that came with it.

Try cleaning around the pins in the plug with a cotton swab sprayed with WD-40 or a good contact cleaner. This worked for me when the same thing happend to me.

recently bought IBM usb keyboard (with 2 onboard usb ports). plugged for first time and was fine.

restarted PC thge next day, and got error message saying a USB device was malfunctioning. unplugged and replugged all usb hardware- the malf. device was the keyboard. tried restating pc again- KB was now dead.

not only that- the keyboard entry was now missing from the list in device manager. tried plugging in my old usb keyboard and that would not be recognised either.

cant do a repair from windows CD as cant type the serial key! KB doesn't work if restarting and trying to get into bios either. PC has a ABIT motherboard with all USB ports so can't even plug in a PS2 kbd!

any ideas?

When you want to bring up Task Monitor with the ctrl+alt+del keys you can't use the usual ones as I or most others do. You have to press the Alt Gr key + the right hand ctrl key and the del key above the cursor keys. It did work as normal up to 3 weeks ago. Thelanguage selection is still correct English British in control panel as are all other settings. Hi!
I recently installed Windows XP SP2 on my HCL EC2 Desktop PC.
After install I was installing programs and loaded Kaspersky Antivirus. During these installs..I noticed that my keyboard was malfunctioning.
Whenever I Press the comma , key AND if a folder window is open, then by pressing the comma key it switches to the folder window instead of pressing the comma key.

Then later I installed Service Pack 3 on my system, and then my windows was back to normal. Then there was no problem with the keyboard until today. Today my computer crashed and I had to take a force restart due to some updating Kaspersky was doing.

After restart, I had firefox and a folder window and a notepad txt window open. I pressed comma and it switched to the folder windows instead of giving me a comma in firefox. I closed the folder window, and thus can now type the comma... ,

Please can someone help me in how can I fix this error?

Thanks.

My new computer is having keyboard issues. When I leave the house for long periods of time I power down my terminal strip. When I return and power up and boot I have no keyboard. I then have to power down, unplug the keyboard, power up, power down, plug in the keyboard, power up, and then it's fine. I have a generic pc with an MSI K7N2 mobo, XP home, AMD Athlon XP2900 400FSB. The mouse was doing the same thing until I dumped the PS2 adapter and went in a USB port. Any thoughts. I'm getting ready to try another mobo. The keyboard is from my old Compaq Presario.

Hello,

Yesterday when I woke up my USB mouse and USB keyboard were randomly not working. I restarted afew times wondering what was up, and after all that it worked. I spoke with a friend abit about the problem and we figued it was probly my keyboard dying and conflicting with the mouse. Well last night I passed out to a movie and woke up to it "lagging". I got out of bed to turn off the movie and noticed a bubble in the lower right hand of my screen saying my USB devices are malfunctioning and have been disabled.

Both my mouse and keyboard work perfectly fine on my laptop. Also when plugging in other USB devices into the USB ports that my mouse and keyboard were plugged into, they all work fine. It as if the drivers for my mouse and keyboard are randomly not working. Problem being is... I can't log into my PC. I am incapable of using my mouse and keyboard and naturally incapable of putting in my login password amungst other things. I am going to try and hit Wallyworld (Wal-Mart) to pick up an old PS/2 Mouse and Keyboard and see if I can get them to work to log in.

Any help or any advice as to how I can get around this would be great. My mouse has the DPI wheel that "Color's" to represent which DPI setting you are on. The mouse recieves power as it lights up but once windows starts to run it stops. I am also incapable of trying to start up in safe-mode as the keyboard just wont work!

Ok, here's the thing, I was on my computer last night chatting on facebook. I then went downstairs for a couple of minutes, and then returned. But for some reason my keyboard didn't work. I tried disconnecting it from its USB-port, and reconnecting it into another one, but didn't work. I went to the device-manager and deleted the keyboard-drivers and rebooted the whole thing, still the same problem.

What really confuse me is that no buttons work except the media-related keys!
They work as they always have, but the rest of the keys don't..

I'd appreciate help, thanks in advance!

Sounds like you just hit a key combonation inadvertently while typing which caused the problem. That's the problem with laptops, some keys do double and triple duty because of being so compact. To verify issue you can contact HP and see what they say and make sure everything is as it should be.

Hello everyone. I'm new to these forums, unlike this OS. I have a major keyboard malfunction and seeing google was of no help, I came here as a last resort. Forgive me if I make any mistakes regarding this post, I'm in a haste.

Today after a restart, my keyboard went to shit. Every key with letters opens up calc.exe. Arrow keys are unresponsive, including a select few. The ' key opens up My Computer and I'm getting REAL tired of Win 8's constant problems and the dire need of solving them, one after one.

I think before the restart, i used folder colorizers update function (not the first time), and it kept ****ing up somewhere saying "pls lemme close this cuz its in my way : >>" and then theres 3 options, abort, ignore, retry. after retry failed, i used ignore and boom goes explorer.exe. "welp, time to win+r = explorer.exe" and so i did. after a while i restarted for w/e reason. ENTER CALC.EXE

I am positive I am virus/malware free, for i have scanned 4 times with ESET Nod antivirus 8 and twice with malwarebytes.
I'm using a Lenovo g500. pls help.

pls.

Hi.
Recently, my keyboard seems to have a life itself. It all started when the CAPS LOCK light blinked sometimes from nothing... then it started to turn itself on and off whenever it wants. I suspected it was a malfunction from the keyboard, but my computer (Dell Inspiron 3540) only have a year and I do not use the CAPS key very often.

More recently, the left shift is not working with the keys 2, w, s and x. If I want to make an uppercase of those letters I have to press the right shift. Thats when I started to think it could be a malware or something like that, because those keys work just fine, but only if i'm not pressing the left shift key.

Strange thing is that everytime the computer starts, the CAPS key is turned on automaticaly. Also, when I try to type the password on my emails website, it says the CAPS key is on, even if it isnt. Ive got the same mensage from when I was registering to bleepingcomputer.com.

Ive run a complete scan with my old antivirus (McAfee), but it found nothing. Runned malwarebytes anti-malware, and it did find a PUP, but even after the exclusions, the problem persists. Ive also run a complete scan with Microsoft safety scanner and later with windows defender, and they did find some PUPs, but again, after the exclusions, the problem persists.

Last thing, my touchpad seemed to stop working when I disconnected my USB mouse... then even after ive reconnected the mouse, it wasnt working for sometime.

Also, the CAPS ... Read more

A:Keyboard malfunction when using leftshift.

Sounds like a short. Has anything ever been spilled on the keyboard? Or the laptop in general?

EDIT: In case you haven't yet, check your Device Manager for any flags that drivers or hardware aren't working correctly.

A blinking CAPS light during boot is a warning that something hardware related is not working 100%. The blinks are supposed to coincide with POST codes, but I've yet to come across a situation where I had to know how many lights and so forth, so I'm not certain thats the issue.

The keys you mentioned are all in the same area of the keyboard, so I'm leaning pretty hard toward a hardware issue. I just replaced a keyboard in a laptop where the owner had spilled water on it...afterwards the keyboard would randomly start typing 't' or holding the Down arrow. So the Run command line would start going 'ttttttttttttttt....' until I pressed another key, or the Task Manager would constantly cycle downwards through the processes...get the picture?

It was so random that I suspected malware, it even happened when I connected a USB keyboard. But when I physically removed the laptop keyboard the problem disappeared. A replacement keyboard fixed the issue.

If you're up to it, you can experiment by removing the laptop keyboard (detaching the ribbon cable) and running the laptop off a USB keyboard. Same goes for the touchpad and mouse, but you'll likely have to do a bit more disassembly to the laptop.

I posted something similar a while ago, but after various experiments I have found no solution.

I have a Dell laptop (Win XP, desktop processor in laptop casing so potential heat problems), and it’s been fine on and off for three years, but recently the keyboard started malfunctioning. The symptoms are as follows:

a) The system works normally for a variable amount of time (c. 30-60 mins).

b) At this point, the keyboard stops functioning, except for the vowels, which appear with acute accents (á, é, í, etc.). Using Ctrl+Alt+Del to launch Task Manager still seems to work as well. The non-functioning of keys extends to the Command Prompt.

c) This is accompanied by other Windows problems: double-clicking on desktop icons only launches their properties boxes; it becomes impossible to highlight text in MS Word or navigate between windows on the taskbar.

d) Sometimes, after a further period of time, not even the vowels produce a response, and pressing any key results in a system alert ‘ding’ sound. Curiously, if the Command Prompt is launched at this point, all keys except the space bar work normally within it, but not in Windows.

e) Restarting the machine will usually relieve the problem for a short time, but it soon resurfaces.I am not sure whether this is a hardware or a software problem. I suspect it might be the latter because the problem still occurs when I use either an external keyboard or the Windows on-screen keyboard, and I ha... Read more

Try running the computer in safe mode and see if the problem occurs there after 60 minutes. If not then you probably have a software problem. Do you have the original load disk? A system reload may the the fastest way to fix this. You can restart in safe mode after you get the problem.

This morning I woke up and started up my computer to check email, weather, etc. It took a little longer than usual to load, but I didn't think anything of it. When I loaded up Google Chrome, I tried to type something into the search bar, but no letters came up, rather my keystrokes were bringing up file drop down menus. Also, when I opened a new tab and went to click on one of my frequently viewed pages, the page would not load, rather the browser would prompt me to download the link (the little popup bar that shows up at the bottom of the page). I didn't download anything. To try and fix this I restarted my computer (nope), swapped out my USB keyboard for another one (nope), ran a virus scan with AVG (only thing that popped up was one thing of malware--mstsc.exe is what the history log said. Virus scan was clean, malware was quarantined and deleted), and then I resorted to my college "fix-all" solution: the system restore. It didn't work. Keyboard is still doing the same stuff. It was working fine last night when I put it into sleep mode. We did lose power in the middle of the night and the computer turned off completely, but I didn't think that would have anything to do with the malfunctioning of my keyboard. Any ideas or suggestions?

A:Keyboard virus or simple malfunction?

You may have turned on "sticky keys" or some other assistive technology. The power failure may have triggered it. Weird things can happen during a power failure. Here is a link explaining a bit of what I am talking about. Press keyboard shortcuts one key at a time (Sticky Keys)

ok this has me stumped. I've been using a friend's Asus laptop (don't know the model), running windows xp (completely updated)... and yesterday, the keyboard stopped working. kind of. while the bios is loading it works fine, and under a user that never gets used it works fine. however, when the main user is active, whenever a key is pressed, a strange beepy clicky noise is made (similar to when windows locks up and doesn't accept any keyboard input), and nothing appears on the screen... BUT if the key is held for a second or two (I beleive its the time it takes for the key to repeat itself), the value correctly appears. the trick doesn't work when the key is tapped twice. Everything else on the computer works fine. I've since installed spybot and adaware, and made sure my norton definitions are up to date, and have run all three numerous times... I've uninstalled and reinstalled the keyboard drivers, to no avail. Any help or direction at all is immensly appreciated.

Thanks

Jamie

Hi, First off, I apologise in advance if this problem has been addressed already, but I am too sleep-deprived to search properly. My E530, despite running flawlessly until now, had a DRIVER POWER STATE FAILURE error tonight. I got it to run normally, but I've noticed that the @ and ? alts (I.e. where they normally are over the 2 and ' buttons) have been reversed. I want them back how they are laid out on the keyboard, but can't find anything anywhere in the settings or control panel to do so. Please tell me how to fix this. On a side note, I need to uninstall and reinstall the drivers for the Centrino Wireless 2230, and maybe the rest of the network adapters, to resolve the power state error, but they won't download on Device Manager. I can't find them online. If anyone has links to these, I'd be grateful.

A:E530 - strange keyboard malfunction

Well, as I can't edit the original post, I'll have to add here that I seem to have addressed this problem. Apparently, uninstalling and reinstalling the display drivers in safe mode fixes this. However, when I went back into safe mode to check if other drivers had warning triangles, the display adapter - despite being the correct non-generic one - still did, and this persisted despite another uninstall and reinstall. The System Interface Foundation Driver also has a warning triangle, which I can't remove. I feel I should resolve these as I don't want another bluescreen. Any ideas?

I have posted about the same problem few months ago...After upgrading to windows 10, some keys (Left, Up, PgDn, Delete, Home) stopped working. In fact, I have tried reinstalling and upgrading the BIOS and the keyboard drivers but nothing seems to fix the problem. When I click the keys continuously, the keys work sometimes but it stops working after couple of times.I talked to the customer service several times but they keep instructing me to repeat the same procedures that doesn't solve the problem. Is there an actual solution for this problem?

So a couple of days ago I was washing dishes and I began typing on my laptop with slightly wet hands. I dried off the keyboard, but I began to notice that my laptop was getting laggy. I restarted my computer and it worked fine for a couple of days. Now when I type my A's are now tabbing, my K has a bracket[ before each one and my F types a T in front. I've updated the drivers for my keyboard, there is nothing obstructing the keys, and it's not wet at all. What can I do to fix it. I've made sure that my keyboard language is set to the default also.

Hi
Firstly, thanks for taking the time to read.

My problem is the 'SENS Keyboard V4 Launcher' which controls 'hot keys' on my Samsung laptop has stopped working. Last pm after installing a couple of security devices including: Threat Fire, SuperAntiSpyWare and spamFIGHTER email program, Avast! alarmed and said that a Trojan was detected as being described as: SENS keyboard Launcher.exe/ Win32downloader-BK. [Trojan]. I isolated the file (as per avast! suggestion) thinking initially that it was infected. Since then my hot keys arn't working at all. I have removed all installed components and then attempted to release the isolated SENS..... launcher. Avast! refused to let me. I deleted the contained file, system restored to 2 days ago, and attempted to reinstall SENS .....Launcher. Avast! alarms even with an attempted reinstall from factory provided disks (with the same trojan message) thus I'm presuming Avast! has got it all wrong. I've even turned Avast! off and reinstalled the SANS....Launcher with no problems but it refuses to run. Even when double clicking the .exe manually. (Nothing happens, the computer thinks momentarily then remarks: "Windows can not access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access this file".
What do I do?
Is it safe to delete the SENS....Launcher.exe file and do a clean reinstall. I'm thinking the file is corrupted, but Im concerned my keyboard will to... Read more

A:'SENS Keyboard Launcher' Malfunction.

I have now deleted the .exe then rebooted and reinstalled the program, still not working!
I've also scanned muy PC with another malware program, malwarebytes, found nothing. My hot keys are dead keys

Could someone suggest how to fix this problem with my hibernate recovery? When I awaken my system from hibernation, I find that often my keyboard does not function at all. The keyboard is connected to a USB port, a USB-3 port. In order to restore the functionality of the keyboard, I do a system restart. That fixes it. Apparently, the recovery from hibernation is somehow faulty. Any ideas how to fix?

A:Hibernation recovery w/keyboard malfunction.

Most default hybernation settings include shutting off the power to the usb ports; edit that setting so that the USB ports remain active and see if that helps. USB3.0 is very susceptible to this because they carry much more power than USB2.0

I have a problem with my Medion 6100 laptop.
Since installing XP SP2, if I try to enter standby I get
the message that the EnE Keyboard KB-3886 driver is
preventing the system from entering standby.

The keyboard does not have a standby or hibernate button;
I normally enter standby by going through the Win Xp Start -
Shutdown - standby option on screen. Wake up is by
pushing the power button.

I have tried unsuccessfully to find an update for this
driver.

Would anyone know whether SP2 alters the original driver -
if so can I safely "roll back driver" and will this fix
work?

Or would it be that the original driver is still
installed but does not work with SP2...in which case I
definitely need an updated driver....?

A:XP SP2 causes standby malfunction from keyboard driver

SP2 doesn't alter drivers at all. It's possible your keyboard drivers are no more compatible. You must report to the Medion support team.

A:keyboard malfunction, believe its windows, not hardware

Restart the computer and boot into Setup (Bios) go to Peripherals or some such. Look for Legacy Keyboard or USB Keyboard. It may be disabled. Enable it.
If that fails, go to the Search and type devmgmt.msc Right click the devmgmt icon in the search results and Run As Administrator. Open up Keyboard. right click it and Uninstall it. If it is a name brand board, Logitech, Microsoft etc, go to the manufacturers web sited and download an updated driver. If not, right click any device in the Device Manager and Scan For Hardware Changes. This should install a fresh driver for the keyboard.

Hey everyone, I'm new here and I have this strange problem with my Toshiba Satellite laptop. When I try to type something, it will type something else completely. Ex: I try to type "Great" it types "fdjsreaut". After a few minutes of the keyboard malfunctioning like this, it will stop working completely. The only way for me to get the keyboard to work again is to shut it off, take out the battery, wait a few minutes, then turn it back on. Then, it will only work for a few minutes before beginning to malfunction again.
I have tried various spyware: nothing came up. I then did an entire factory reset of my computer, but the problem still remained. Thus it can't be a virus, it's probably a keyboard driver malfunction.
Does anyone know what I should do to try to fix this? A huge thanks goes to anyone who can help me fix this

A:Toshiba Satellite keyboard driver malfunction

I'm less inclined to think its a driver issue then perhaps the keyboard itself or other hardware. In any case, i'm really not sure about the cause of your problem but i once saw this keyboard test tool (free for 1st 30 days).

I never tried it myself but if you try it, let us know what you think of it please

My laptop (ACER Aspire 1640) is struggling. The symptoms are:

1) It started with the keyboard behaving oddly. First, random keys didn't work (mostly the s key).

2) Then, whilst booting, beeping sounds would prevent the booting process. However, I was still able to boot by using f12. Both these symptoms indicated that a key was being pressed (assuming the s key since this was usually the one behaving strangely). Therefore, I removed some keys and cleaned underneath. This didn't seem to make much difference.

3) More and more keys would stop working after booting. However, once the laptop has "warmed up", 10 minutes or so after it has been turned on, all keys are again working.

4) The touchpad has stopped working.

5) The ACPI reports battery power incorrectly. It indicates that there is only 50 minutes of power left when 100% charged. However, I have verified that there is actually 80 minutes. When the battery indicator reached around 5%, I let the computer run until the battery was drained. This draining took more than half an hour where it should have been a matter of minutes considering that the indicator said that only 5% was left.

6) The PCMCIA slot has stopped working.

7) The mobile phone that I connect to the laptop via a USB port is having trouble getting reasonable Internet speeds. I have tested the phone on another laptop with the same configuration and the same cable, and here speeds are as expected.

My assumption is that the laptop is not ... Read more

A:Laptop - keyboard, touchpad, pcmcia and usb malfunction

No solid ideas to offer you. I suggest that you experiment a bit.

Run on battery only (since it is capable of being fully charged).
Use external keyboard and mouse. Some laptops accept a ps2 y-connector so both can be used at the same time. Mine does not, as an example.
I have not tried USB connectivity for either the KB or the mouse. While battery is considered a stable power source, remove the battery and run off the adapter. This will check out the filter & regulator.

Yours symptoms are many. However, replaceable parts on a laptop are hard to do without professional help. Opening the case & looking for loose or pinched cables may not be worth the risk/hassle.

End of February, I purchased a Dell XPS 13 notebook (i7-5500, 512Gb SSD, touchscreen version). I updated the system to Windows 10 about a month ago (August 1st), and installed new Windows 10 drivers from Dell. Since Monday August 31, my keyboard is malfunctioning. All of this coincided, but need of course not be related to Mondays Windows' update. The symptoms are as follows:1. The keyboard stops working, none of the keys respond to typing; 2. The keyboard backlight is suddenly switched on;A third symptom that may or may not be related is that the colour of the battery light occasionally changes to solid orange (normally indicating a nearly exhausted battery) even when battery is fully charged, and the power adapter is plugged in.The touchpad, attached mouse, and touchscreen keyboard still work fine. The keyboard problem seems to be intermittent. On reboot things are usually as normal, but after a while the keyboard will start malfunctioning, requiring an annoying reboot. Needless to say I did run a full system scan (Norton 360) to check for malware, etc. As expected, the test found no problems. Most likely, the keyboard malfunction is caused by some software problem. How do I solve this?

A:Intermittent XPS 13 keyboard malfunction after Windows 10 update

I did a clean install of windows 8.1, followed by an update to windows 10, and installed the Dell drivers for Windows 10. Unfortunately, my keyboard problem returned. A few minutes after rebooting, the keyboard backlight would flash on, and the keyboard would stop responding to typing. For a notebook, that is unacceptable. The only solution was to return to windows 8. I don't like win 8, it's ugly, it doesn't make sense, but it's stable. Windows 10 wasn't. So, I won't go there again until those bugs have been solved. Still not sure if the Dell drivers for windows are causing the problem or (more likely) if windows 10 is buggy. Regardless, it's goodbye windows 10 for me. Goodbye, and maybe see you later, but much, much later.

I'm posting in this forum because I'm almost sure what's going on isn't a hardware problem.

The 'puter is a Sony Laptop (PCG-FXA47) running XP with fully up-to-date service packs and patches.

At random intervals, when emerging from a sleep state, the computer intermittently ignores both mouse and keyboard input. For example, when I run my finger across the touchpad, the pointer moves smoothly for a second, then freezes for a second, then reappears a few inches away from where it froze.

When I type "Windows is a brutal hack," what comes out is "Wiow i a bral ck." And etcetera.

The only remedy is full power down and power up. Restart doesn't cut it.

Is this just another entry in the "Bill Gates can't teach a computer to wake up clean" file, or is there something I can do besides switch to Linux?

Many thanks for any help you can provide.

Hello, im dealing with a friends Toshiba Satellite laptop. The computers mousepad will not work. The keyboard will npt respond to 80% of the keys including the Enter or Arrow pad. At first I thought it might've been a corrupted windows installation but then accessing the Bios menu (F2 key worked) I was unable to input any other keyboard commands. I popped an Ubuntu CD and am having similar issues. I've came to the conclusion that components would have to be replaced.

any input would be appreciated!

Should I advise my friend that a replacement keyboard would have to be ordered? What steps should I approach next? Thank you in advance!

Hi, I didn't know I was suppose to post this on the Windows XP Blog or the Mac Blog, but I hope someone will help me answer my question anyway.

Recently my keyboard and mouse died on me. Everytime I get to the logon screen the keyboard and mouse stop working. Right before it gets to the logon screen my mouse can move for a period of 3 seconds and stops.

I'm using the latest macbook pro. It has 2gb of Ram, 2.2ghz, and 128mb. The mouse I'm using is a Logictech G5.

I doubt the issue lies with the mouse and keyboard, because I can use it on the Mac OS side of my computer.

hi all,

as of this time, i am just using the laptop of my friend to tell u about my problem because i cannot use my laptop.

i downloaded a movie and after w/c when i tried to play it, it says it requires me to update a codec to play the file.
there was a link to download the codec so i clicked on it and it downloaded the file.
before i ran the .exe file of only 97kb, i first checked the url frm which it was downloaded because i already suspect it maybe a threat and if i can go
over the site, my mcAfee antivirus would at least warn me if the site contains malicious downloads. if i can remember it right the site was weeblog.com.
eventually, my antivirus did not warn me of any threat.
i decided to run the software because i was dying to play and watch the movie i just downloaded.
then,
the entire screen went blue.
it displayed an error message that says a program is trying to write in the read only memory..
i tried to restart it by pressing the power button but it didnt respond. even all the other keys in the keyboard did not function.
then i decided to remove the batteries so it will forcefully shut down.
and it did.
when i put the batteries again ang power it on, it says there was a unexpected error during shut down.. it was checking on errors on the drives and the system.
then eventually, there was an option if i want to fix it automatically and so i did..

My Toshiba and I are BAAAAAACK....for some reason, my 1,q,a,z and left side ctrl, shift and tab keys are not working (I have an external keyboard plugged into my laptop right now, which is extremely inconvenient). For awhile, there was some intermittent usability, but now.....NOTHING. I have tried to find new drivers on the Toshiba site, but there aren't any available right now. I am out of warranty and it costs $35. just to call them to discuss a problem. I have removed all of the affected keys and cleaned them, but still no luck. All of the other keys work fine.

On another note, after being infected in August with the Sircam virus and dumping and recreating my whole system, the right click button on my keyboard mouse is no longer working.

Any ideas out there?
Thanks!

If the external keyboard works fine, then the built-in keyboard is probably shot. Believe it or not, computer parts, especially laptop parts, do wear out. Don't waste your money on a support call or taking it in to a technician. The computer is too old and is not worth that type of repair. Time for a new one.

I was doing my usual work when my Bluetooth mouse scroll wheel suddenly went from scrolling the page to zooming the page for no reason.

This was quickly followed by my laptop keyboard suddenly refusing to work except for a few keys. It was quickly obvious that key function had been remapped (i.e. the M key did what the Enter key was meant to do, etc.).

I tried an USB wired external keyboard and the problem still persisted.

So, I thought it had to be an OS issue. After checking a few things, I decided to reinstall Win7 (Home Edition 64-bit) as I hadn't done that for several months. I hoped it would fix the problem. I checked the BIOS and then wiped the HDD and did a reinstall after backing up my files.

It solved the problem for about 30 minutes, then the problem with the mouse and keyboard returned.

I've checked the Device Manager and there's nothing showing up there. I ran the troubleshooter tool a few times. Most of the keyboard's function has returned to normal, though I have no idea why. I haven't tried the Bluetooth mouse, I'm using the laptop's trackpad instead. But I've noticed the copy and paste keyboard shortcuts aren't working (even though I can still right-click and do it that way, it's annoying as hell).

Any ideas about the source of the issue? Or even how I can get the copy/paste working again?

That's really weird. Have you tried updating the drivers for your input devices? What is the make and model of your computer - I can help you find them.

I have just bought a Lenovo Ideapad 500 - 151SK. I am really pleased apart from the keyboard. On average when I type a sentence at least 8 or 9 characters are missing. If I try typing a little harder then I get some coming out twice. I have had to correct this short note about 12 times so far. I tried phoning the warranty hotline as it is brand new but they basically told me that all keyboards are different and I will get used to it. The keyboard feels slightly springy. Can anyone advise? Has anyone else had the same problem? Many thanks.

I have a new 17" Ideapad 700 which seems to skip letters all the time, even when I type relatively heavily.Does anyone have an idea what to do about it? Could it just be defective hardware? Thanks.

Hello! For a month now i have been experiencing several issues with my Lenovo laptop. I've went through lots of online tutorials but none worked, some even made it worse. I decided to come to this forum since the problems are making the laptop unusable The problems are: Almost all of my keyboard keys are repeating after being held for around 3 seconds (like thissssssssssssssssss), then it will randomly stop after some time. This is really annoying espically while playing a game (including all letters, numbers, ctrl, shift, backspace and the space bar) The space bar presses itself randomly while typing ( lik e t h is ). Sometimes it doesn't press when i press it, and sometimes it doesn't stop pressing when i press it, unless i press another key. In the Login screen when turning the laptop on, the space bar is always active (fills the password box with spaces) The Backspace button isn't always working too These occur basically everywhere, browsers, games, text editors, everything that does something when a button is pressed Laptop information: OS: Windows 10 64-bit, x64 based processorModel: Lenovo Ideapad 100-15IBY4.00 GB RAM, 3.88 of which are usable829.2 GB total free memory space (C and D)Nothing is plugged in except the mouse (problems occur with it unplugged too)I have never spilled drinks on the laptop What i tried:Scanned for viruses with Windows Defender and AVG, nothing foundCleaned junk files with Disk Clean...
