I have a HP Pavilion g6 laptop and just today the B key popped up from it's place. I had to fiddle with it a bit to put it back into place, so I'm wondering is this normal on HP laptops? I had an Acer before and this never happened. I called HP and they told me to send it back in for repairs. I was not rough with the keys or anything, this laptop is brand new.

Thanks

Hello, I have an HP Pavilion g6-2249wm Notebook PC with the operating system Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit). I recently started having problems with my keyboard. All of the keys are working fine with the exception of three. When I click the space bar, a bunch of random letters type instead of a space character. When I click backspace, nothing backspaces and the screen opens to the right that shows where you want to project a second screen (pc screen only, duplicate, extend, second screen only)When I click the enter key, it types a couple letters and it bookmarks the page I am on. I've already tried a couple things to fix the problem, such as:Uninstalling the keyboard from device manager and rebooting.Running virus scans, none which have picked up viruses or anything that could cause this.Resetting my PC to factory settings. I thought it could be the actual keyboard that is having problems, but all of the other keys work perfectly fine. I've researched on google my problem and have done a lot of other things people have suggested but nothing seems to be working. I would rather find out online and see if it's something I could fix myself before I go somewhere and pay a lot of money to get it fixed. Thank you in advance.

I use a Citrix app for work online.  Sometimes I have to use function keys to proceed thru processes.  When I press F2 and fn key simultaneously the computer setting for brightness activates and I can't proceed to next step on the app. Is there a way to toggle the function keys for other uses?  Did not recv any manual for this laptop.

Hi there, I've just purchased a second hand HP Pavilion Dv6 and have discovered the keyboard is incorrectly arranged: F is where G should be, and vice versa. F types G and G types F.  The F clearly has a small ridge, marking as a guide key, but as such is wrongly placed. Is this something I can fix myself? I have seen instructions on how to replace a keyboard, but I am not sure if the individual keys can be swapped around.

Hi Folks! The 'HOT KEY' that turns on/off has a small RED Led installed which is supposed to light up when pressed to show that the Speakers are turned off, however after an update of lord knows what, as Microsoft ensure that 'secrecy' is maintained now for Win 10 updates and you get it whether you want it or not the RED Led has ceased to function, which I am hoping is a Software issue that can be resolved by installing the latest HOT KEYS Driver so....... Using the 'HP Support System' the 'Robot' tells me to go onto the Support Page, get my Model of Laptop recognised then choose Driver Updates and select 'HOT KEYS' except when you get to the Drivers there is nothing that looks remotely like 'HOT KEYS DRIVER' in the list of all the Driver Updates. Does anyone know where this 'item' lives, or do I have to wait for HP Support Human Being to get out of bed on Monday morning and answer the question? I do wish that the HP People who put up the pages of 'How To' would check them out BEFORE they commit them to their webpages! Thanks

Does anyone know of any quick fixes or shall I force her to take it back to pc world and make them fix it, excuse the lack of a question mark.

The laptop is about 6 months old, so it should still be working.

So essentially i spilt some coke on my keyboard and now some of the keys are sticky and the laptop screen is a bit dirty. (The keys in question being the 4, 5, 6, 7, r,t, y, u, f4, f5, f6, and f7). After a bit of research I worked out that to fix the screen I could just get some special wipes (unless anyone reccomends anything else?) However to fix the sticky key stituation: I would need to remove the keys, put the keys in some washing up liquid, clean out where the keys were with special alcohol and q-tips. Unfortunately, upon trying to remove the keys they didnt seem to come out very easily. I was so worried of breaking the keys in the end I left them in. In short how do I remove the keys and does anyone have any tips on cleaning spilt coke?

What system update, windows update, a driver update? This is pretty vague.Could the update be coincidence and the keys are broken? If you boot to safe mode with command prompt try them then.Maybe the keys themselves are damages in which case you need a new or new old stock keyboard. That's what I would do, test the keys in a command prompt window and if they don't work there get a new keyboard.Do you have access to a usb keyboard to see if it's the keys or some weird OS thing?

I have a HP Pavilion tx2500z (model: KD436AV) laptop with Windows 7 64 bit OS installed. Since last few months, I am not able to use default function keys (F1, F2...F12) and other keys at the top row of the keyboard, including Pg Up, Pg Down, Home, End, Insert, Delete. However, all the Action Keys available on these keys are working without pressing Fn Key (e.g. Sleep, Brightness, num lock etc). I get same Action Key behaviour even after pressing Fn Key.

It looks like, somehow system is locked in action key mode and I am not able to come out of it. I tried to upgrade Bios (currently on latest F.0F version) and also tried to disable the Action Key mode in BIOS, but Action Key mode is not available in BIOS of this computer. Even to enter BIOS, I faced problem because F10 key was not working to enter BIOS setup. I had to connect external keyboard to enter BIOS.

I am disperately looking for help to come out of this situation. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I sure wish someone would figure out how to hack the registry, .dll or whatever it is that might make use of the HP 'QuickPlay' button so that it works 'when users actually want it to'.

Then even greater is if someone also figured out how to get the 'QuickPlay' button to open Windows Media Center.

I've read that there are utilities and/or programs available that sort of reverse engineer hardware button pathways (so users can make a key or button do what we want).

Of course this would require figuring out how to readily disable and re-enable the 'shoot yourself in the foot' design style of the QuickPlay 'button', eg; it's the only 'button' that envokes the exceedingly slow and irreversible process whenever users merely wish to wipe off dust or fingerprints.

The only other wish item, would be that the two non-functional Pavilion Fn shortcut keys would once more function, ie; Fn+F1 (system information) and Fn+F2 (help & support).

Note as things stand right now, ie; after wiping partitions and the dv4-1030ee Pavilion, installing Windows 7 Pro (Win7 Pro OEM Systems Builder) and some HP's drivers and/or softpaq's, I really can't complain about MS's Win7 and/or the Pavilion.

A:Vista to Win7 - HP Pavilion's useless Buttons-Fn Keys

The function button drivers for laptops are always a bit hit and miss for a "new" OS, For example, on my own Acer Aspireone netbook everything works except the volume buttons .

Hopefully in the fullness of time HP will release win7 optimized drivers for your system, until then my only suggestion is to try installing the latest drivers you can get, in vista compatibility mode if needed

Hi I have a HP pavilion g6 laptop on windows 7 home premium. A few weeks ago the space bar enter back space and up and down arrow keys stopped responding whilst I was typing on face book. I shut the laptop down, this did not work. I checked the filter and sticky keys weren't on , I put them on then unchecked them to clear. This did not work. I went on the HP help site where they suggested I take the battery off and hold the on button for 60 seconds then power back up. I did this and to my surprise it worked. Great I thought. But just a couple of days ago the same keys stopped responding again. I tried the same fix but this time nothing.
Can anyone help.... Is this a common fault ? I need the keys to work again ASAP.

Two questions:

1. This first one is a question about what two registry keys do. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > services > Tcpip > Parameters > DNSRegisteredAdapters > *Corresponding NIC*. What are the Flags, and RegisteredSinceBoot
keys? What do they do?
2. I attempt to change the values of these keys. They go back to their original values if I restart, log in, or run ipconfig /registerdns.

Here is some background. I am on an IT engineering, and I have been looking into a DNS issue we have had for quite some time. The issue is that our AD DNS server records do not update for about half of our machines. We have timestamps dating back a couple of
months (I know, I know, scavenge. The team in charge of that is in the process of getting that set). I have been looking into a multitude of things to ensure all computers' DNS records update.

In my testing, I have checked several machines and notice that those keys mentioned above have the values of- flags = 2, and registeredsinceboot = 1. On the computers that aren't updating their values are 0. I have attempted to change to 2 and 1 on a computer
that isn't updating, but the values always revert back to 0.

Perhaps the issue we are seeing isn't related at all to the keys presented, but if you can help me identify the purpose of these keys, and how to save the values if changed, that would be greatly appreciated. At least for testing purpose.

Malwarebytes pardons Pirates and gives away free one year premium license keys. Malwarebytes Corporation is after the counterfeit keys, they?re running ?Amnesty key? program with which, if Malwarebytes Program detects abused, pirated or counterfeit keys during the upgrade to version 2.1.8, then the user will be presented with a special screen (Locate your license key) with two options (check the screenshot below).

Selecting the first ? ?I?m not sure where I got key from, or I downloaded it from the Internet? ? or second option ??I purchased my key?? will issue users a new and unique key of Malwarebytes anti-Malware premium, which user can use for one year or 12 months for free.

If you don?t activate the key or click the ?Cancel? button, then you?ll remain on the free version.

Next go to ?My Account? screen, note down the new key, your old key will be disabled after a period of time. This way, Malwarebytes disables all the pirated keys and, those who got Premium keys will enjoy one year protection and can renew if they desire when they about to expire.

What is Malwarebytes Amnesty Program?

The program page says ?The Internet is full of pioneers and cowboys. It?s also got its fair share of pirates and trolls. Some of those bad guys may have duped you into purchasing a counterfeit version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Or perhaps we?ve simply detected a problem with your key. Not to worry. Hi, Try the following. Download the AMD HD Graphics installer on the following link and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp74501-75000/sp74716.exe When done, open your Downloads folder, right click the AMD Graphics installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, shutdown the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Start the notebook and let Windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K

Well you should be using Forms & Subforms for your data entry. When you link the Main form (based on the main table) to the Subform via the master key/foriegn key Access auto populates the foriegn key for you as soon as you enter soem data in to the subform.

Hey Everyone

Started typing on my internal laptop keyboard today and reliased that mainly keys a b and n were not working.
So I decided to clean them by taking off the key and white holder, then used a cloth to clean all the dust etc.. both under the rubber button and around it. This still didn't work however, so I then decided to uninstall and reinstall the driver as well. However this didn't work either.

Its probably best to try and buy a new one off e-bay, but before I do this does anyone else have any suggestions?

Also interesting, a b and n seems to be a popular combination of keys for other toshiba laptops that don't seem to be working... (Using a USB keyboard atm to type which works fine)

Hey guys,

I'm having a really big problem with my keyboard. I'm running windows 7. The problem started about four days ago, I've searched for various ways to solve this problem but I couldn't find any.

The issue is that randomly, my keyboard will stop typing keys and every time I hit a key, instead of typing a key, it would act as if I was hitting a shortcut. Such as, when it happens i hit the "F" key and the tools options come up. This happens on every windows even on MSN messenger, I hit my keys and it hits shortcut keys for the window I'm on.

I would be using my computer for a while and the keys would work fine but then a little later, somethings 30 minutes sometimes an hour or two, randomly they turn into shortcut keys. Every key i hit, I tried a new keyboard but it seems to happen also. I don't get the issue, I've scanned fully using malwareBytes, MCAffee, and Advanced system pro, but it's still happening. It's really frustrating and annoying when it does happen. I've turned my keyboard off and on, re sync'd. I'm starting to lean more towards it being a virus or something that messed with my settings somehow.

Malwayre Bytes did find something while scanning

files\Spigot\wtxpcom\components\widgitoolbarff.dll (Adware.WidgiToolbar) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

A:Keyboard keys randomly turn into shortcut keys

I would also like to add that, when this occurs. I have to restart my computer for the keyboard to work correctly. It's wireless & I've tried a wired keyboard also, it's the same issue.

Also when this happens, while on the internet. Every time I click a link or the internet like "home" "news" anything at all on the internet even an image, it won't go to it but instead it will download the data into my computer... It's very strange & I'm completely stumped on what to do. Or to even search this on google for other similar issues, I don't even know how I would go around to search that. Or what I would type in the search bar. This happens with both Firefox & google chrome. Even outside the internet in just my desktop, it's impossible to type even on notepad.

Sometimes the keys are slow to respond or not work at all. It was working fine til a couple days ago. I even reinstalled the operating systems and still doing this. All the rest of the keys work fine except for a few in that row. I dont know if it was a update that caused this or a hardware problem but id like to get it working right agaln.

Hi folks

If anybody was a member of the old TechNet system and have keys from those days -- W7 / W8 /W8.1 keys are still valid to be used for W10 installs.

If you haven't got your keys or lost them you can still logon (use your Microsoft ID) and get your keys -- export as an XML file and then open with EXCEL to get a nice formatted list.

Same rules apply -- W7 PRO and up for example can be used to install W10 Pro etc.

Cheers
jimbo

A:Old Technet keys still valid for W10 installs -you can still get keys

Yep, all my Windows 10 Free upgrades were from my TechNet Windows 8.1 keys. Those were the keys in use at the time I did the free upgrade. At that time, you had to do the upgrade at least once to get your digital entitlement. Now you can clean install and just type in your Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 key. Bonus bonus.

Hi, well to begin with there is no root classes hive ( it is not loaded there) a change in the registry after 2000 made a difference :-

You need to navigate to [HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-XX-xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx\Software\Classes]

Where the SID is here represented by xxxx's you will only have one or two sid's so easy to find your current user.

Once here delete away. Restart

I have a Commodore Laptop (Argentina) and all the keys that have a FN function attached to them do not work as their normal function any more - this happened after lending the laptop to my kids....

I think it may be FN lock, but can-t find any way to unlock it.

Any ideas please.

Many thanks.

A:Keys that have FN functions on them not working as normal keys

Check the Manual on the model's Support Downloads webpage for key combo to unlock: http://www.ehow.com/how_4968993_unlo...ey-laptop.html

Try updating or reinstalling the hotkeys driver from the model's Support Downloads webpage. Driver Install - Device Manager

While there look also for any downloadable fixes for these key functions or related.

It may also be disabled in msconfig>Startup. You can google the listings there to see what they're for. Normally you only need your AV checked and the rest are freeloaders, but some models require hotkey software to be running at startup if it provides anciliiary functions like backlighting, function toggling, etc.

From time to time the computer behaves as if sticky keys and/or filter keys is turned on. They are not turned on in control panel so I can't just go there to turn them off. Running CC Cleaner sometimes helps with this problem. It is not an issue with the keyboard either. On a possibly related note, my homepage keeps changing itself to MSN. Thank you for any help.

Is there a way to completely disable the HotKey setting?  I always need access to my F1-F12 keys without having to hit the function button first.  I know how to go into settings and turn on the F1-F12 function, but I was wondering if there is a way to disable the HotKeys altogether.  Every time I shutdown or restart my computer, the F1-F12 setting automatically goes back to the HotKey setting, thus, causing me to go in and change it every time.  Thanks!

Hi,

I am using a Razer Arctosa keyboard on my desktop computer running Win7 (keyboard is approx 2 years old).

I am experiencing the following (recently, and sometimes it occasionally goes back to normal):

Pressing "w" registers "w4"
Pressing "W" (shift + w) registers "W$"
Pressing "4" registers "w4"
Pressing "$" (shift + 4) registers "W$"
(As if "w" and "4" are linked; occasionally it registers as "4w")

Pressing "u" registers "u" and F5.
(which means when I am typing and press the "u" it refreshes my page... this is the second time I am writing this...)

Pressing the Windows key registers NumLock toggle.

Pressing "7" registers "/7"

This is all of the weird ones I have noticed. All other keys seem normal.
As I type this it has done the above, but now it is back to normal. Cannot find a pattern when it decides to change from crap to normal. It is back to crap again.
This is the 4th day since it started and the computer has been restarted/shutdown various times.
I have also checked for malware and it is all clear.
The most recent keyboard drivers have been downloaded and installed, but did not fix it.
No liquids have been spilled.
Have searched the web and have not encountered a solution (or someone with the exact kind of problem).
Anyone has any idea of a fix or what may be affecting it?

Thanks,
Destinknee

A:Keyboard: some keys registering 2 keys

Pretty much every time I see this it's due to something spilled on the keyboard that has damaged it or just a keyboard that has failed.

Test it on another computer, if it does the same thing then it needs to be replaced. On the other computer don't load any drivers or software for it just plug it in and wait for Windows to install it's drivers for it and test it.

Hi. I've been having issues with popups and performance lately and my AVG and MBAM scans weren't finding anything so I tried booting into safe mode and scanning that way. Much to my dismay I found that in the middle of loading the partitions the computer would reset and I would get a black screen telling me that safe mode failed to boot and that I should try loading windows normally.

I opened up my regedit and low and behold, the SAFEBOOT subfolder is missing entirely. I'm not really comfortable poking around in the registry, the only experience I have with it is looking around. I really kinda need to have safe mode, but my computer didn't come with a cd that I've seen mention of for fixing this kind of thing. Is there a way I can just manually restore the missing registry keys by typing in the necessary information?

In addition, I noticed a few keys which don't seem like they are supposed to be there, I searched them in search engines but with no results. I've included the key and the information that comes up on the little side-panel when I click on the key in question.

A:will a HP Pavilion 15-n034sa motherboard fit into a HP Pavilion 15-n083sa ?

Actually that's a hard question, generally its not possible to install another motherboard, sometimes it is. In this case one is an AMD platform and the other is an Intel platform, there could be tons of differences in mounting holes, physical design, clearance, connectors, heat dissipation requirements, cooling systems, etc. Laptops are not like desktops that use more standardized designs.

Hello guys!
I have this problem with my laptop. Recently, the "Shift Keys" of my keyboard do not work with some keys, meaning, I can't capitalize some letters while I'm typing, or use some characters on the keyboard (like <, >, etc). Some of them work with the "left Shift", some of them work with the "right Shift", some of them do not work with either one. I have to work my way out with the "caps lock" key.

SYSTEM SPECS
Processor - Intel Celeron 2.16 GHz 2 Cores
O.S. - Window 8.1
RAM - 4 GB

WHAT I TRIED
1) On Task Manager, I "End Task" on Skype. It worked once. Tried it again, it did not work.
2) Updated keyboard drivers - Windows said - "Drivers n this device were up to date"
3) Tried "Start On-Screen", it did recognize the "Shift" key, some I believe that is not a problem related with the keyboard (hardware)
4) Did a System Restore, to a point that I knew that the was working properly

Any advice will be appreciate. Thanks in advance!!!

This happens, the keyboard needs to be replaced. What is the make and model # of your laptop?
If you go to Ebay, you can search for your make and model # and purchase a keyboard. If you go to Youtube and type in your make and model # and type Replace Keyboard, you will find a video showing you how to replace it.

If the answer is to point me to a newbie's guide to VM that's fine and will be much appreciated .

Ok, I searched around for an answer to my problem, but couldn't find any. My problem is not serious, just annoying after a while. Sometimes when I restart my computer, there's this tab next to Start that says "zHOTKEY"...I have to right click and "close" it to get it to go away. If it means anything, I'm using Windows XP.

Again, it doesn't harm my computer, but it is annoying! Any ideas?

Thnx in advance.

A:Xp Keys?!?

No.. it won't work.

Someone else may have a better answer, but I'm not sure you'll be able to do it.

You'll need to find your cd key for the one you're missing, or if you have the cd key for your other one, you'll need to install your windows over that one, and supply your cd key.

You can always call their toll-free no# and get it activated, if it's not already, even if you don't have your cd key. I've done it a few months ago.

Hi everyone!

I am interested in finding out how the Fn key actually works. For example, pressing Fn+'up' increases my volume. What is fundamentally going on here? Is there a 'hot-key' program running in the background? Is it a part of the BIOS, and therefore not part of Windows? Can I change the command - for example making Fn+'up' mean increase screen-brightness, instead of volume?

These are purely theoretical questions. I simply want to know how it works.

Thanks!
Laurens
PS. The theory can be applied to finding out what happens when I press Fn+F3 and Bluetooth starts up, in order to answer the question posed here: How to change bluetooth tray icon?

Hi,  I have an HP Probook 6470b running x64 bit Windows 10.  My F keys do not function properly or at least not how I would like them to.  If I hit f6 for example, the label on the key says it should lower my volume, but instead it highlights the website url. If I hold fn and hit f6 it will lower the volume however.  I want to be able to make so I can just press the key without holding fn and have the key perform the function that it is labelled for. I went into BIOS and the current version of BIOS does not have any Action Key settings I can change.  I tried downloading an HP Hotkey Support driver, but that didn't seem to accomplish anything either. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated as it's pretty annoying having the keys function in their current manner.

If you have OEM licences on all your laptops, you'll be able to upgrade them to Windows 10 (except for the Windows XP one which doesn't benefit of the free upgrade). And I'm always confused when it comes to OEM licences but if you change your motherboard (and/or the hard drive), you won't be able to use it anymore.

Q: H Keys

Ok, i've got a Patriot laptop about 2 years old...recently i got hit by the iTunes thing which knocked out my cd/dvd drive. another forum i checked gave me an H_KEY thing to delete, which would solve the problem. I dont have the discs for my XP as it was pre-loaded when i got it.
so where can i find these H_KEYS? i've bben through everything i can think of and i cant find them...
also, when look through the Folders and all that, it says that some files are hidden? why? i havent hidden them? are these system files that are protected in some way? is that where the H_KEY ones are? sorry if this is very basic. but that iTunes site has caused me so such hassle i'll never use it again...

shuan: That H-key business in the gateway to your Registry.
Unless you know exactly what you are doing, stay away from the Registry.
You can mess up your computer so much that it will be useless.
John Will has written a script that will fix your missing CD/DVD drive.
Search this forum using the Search box on the top right of the Hardware Page.
Type in the box: "Missing CD Rom" (without the Quotes) and follow the directions he gives.
BTW: In order for this fix to work, you must be able to see the CD/DVD drive in Device Manager.

all of a sudden, the touch pad has quit working. this was originally a windows 8.1 machine, but i have updated to windows 10. i was playing minecraft the other day, and i was curious what the "f" keys would do, so i tried pressing them. could pressing them have caused this? if not, is there any way of diagnosing the trouble? p.s. this is a a lenovo G50 laptop.

A:f keys ?

It's possible that you disabled the touchpad on the laptop. A lot of laptops map the Fxx keys to shortcuts, such as for disabling the touchpad, brightness, etc. Though usually it also requires you to hold the Fn key as well as press one of the Fxx keys...but sometimes manufacturers switch this functionality around, and have the default functionality be the "shortcut" operation and to use the Fxx key you have to hold the Fn key.

Does it show your touchpad in Device Manager? Do you see a touchpad icon down in your system tray, and if so, does it show a red X on it to indicate it's disabled? Or do you know if your laptop has a touchpad indicator light? Most laptops do, so you can tell whether or not the touchpad is disabled or not via the shortcut button.

Q: F keys?

Is there a web site that can tell you what the F1,F2, etc keys are for and what they do? I know you usually only use F1 F5, and F10 I think. Would appreciate any help on the matter. Like to know a little more than just pushing buttons.

I have a windowsXP pro. I just wandering if any body knows of any software existing where you stirke a combination of keys (like control>alt>delete) and it will bring you to any folder on your computer. The reason I want this is because the folder I use fequently is about 10 folders down and I can not change this because of company policy. I do not want to make a short cut to it on my desk top because I want this to be a private folder. So I guess what I am asking for is a secret combination of keys to strike to bring me to a certian folder.

Thanx
