Limited WiFi connectivity

Q: Limited WiFi connectivity

Once in a while, I will get limited wifi connectivity on my laptop and when I click the wifi symbol in the bottom right to try disconnect and reconnect to the network, I can't change it because the networks do not show and have to restart my laptop everytime which is annoying. Any fixes for this issue?

So the Wireless Network Connection tab on my computer says it only has limited connectivity to my wifi. It was working perfectly fine just a few days ago. My mother's laptop connects just fine to our wifi. We tried taking the laptop out to my mom's work and it wouldn't connect to the wifi there either and also said it had limited connectivity while everyone else's devices worked. Why is this?

If you know the person, maybe they can recycle their router. If you're using it without permission, you deserve whatever happens.

I have an issue with my laptop that I am utterly baffled by. If anybody could help me solve it, I'd much appreciate it. I have an HP 17-e020dx running Windows 8 which I purchased two years ago. Until recently I lived abroad and had limited internet so in the two yrs I had this laptop abroad, I believe I ran Windows Update maybe only two times. Upon returning stateside, I set about updating everything from Windows Update. Everything was fine, the only issue being that it didn't seem my laptop could update to 8.1 despite being prompted to do so. A couple of weeks later we had a power outage and I used the laptop until the battery died and then turned the laptop back on when the power came back. When the laptop turned on, that was when I discovered that the wifi connection was limited despite working on all other devices. I googled around and tried a few solutions to no avail before trying a system restore which seemed to do the trick. I thought nothing of it after that until the issue came up again a few weeks later, probably when I restarted the laptop, only this time system restore didn't fix the problem. Eventually I got frustrated enough and decided to reformat the whole computer because I'd read some articles that suggested one of the updates caused this which seemed to make sense to me since I never had this connectivity problem abroad (when I hadn't run Update) . After reformatting the computer I never ran Windows Update. In fact I turned it off. For approximately two we... Read more

By format, do you mean you used the System Restore  partition to reinstall the operating system or used a HP installation disc to install the operating system?

If you did either of these you should have the proper network drivers you need.

Look in the Device Manager and see if there are any yellow warning icons under Network Adapters.

Hi

Hope you can help.

I'm on holiday and booked a villa which had complimentary WIFI. I'm able to connect to the unsecured public network. The signal strength is good and I know I'm connected as the duration of time keeps increasing.

However when I try and access the internet I get the message that I have Limited Connectivity. I run the diagnostic tool and am told there is an issue with the IP address.

Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this as I desperately need my laptop so I can work whilst on holiday.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Bebh xx

A:Limited Connectivity on Wifi connection

You may need to remove wireless profiles (see below) and reconnect to the secure network - it will also mean at home when you return you will need to re-enter your wireless security key

would you post back an ipconfig /all

I assume the villa complimentary WIFI is secure - have you entered the correct KEY - and do you know the type of security used ?

If possible download and install and run this xirrus program - and tell us the Name of the villa wireless
------------------------------------------------------------------------
{ipconfig /all}
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here
We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results here
-> Start
-> (XP - enter the following in the RUN box)
cmd /k ipconfig /all
-> (Vista or Windows 7 - enter the following in the Search box)
cmd /k ipconfig /all

A black box will appear on the screen -
rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy

then reply here and
control key + V to paste
------------------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------------------
{run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector} Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC

I recently moved to a new apartment where I share an internet connection. Since I got here, I've been having repeated 'limited connectivity' errors on my WiFi connection. Whenever I get these errors, the troubleshooter 'fixes' the problem after resetting the adapter, but it continually comes back -- even more frequently when downloading or streaming something.

I've tried everything I can think of:

- Relocated the modem/router thinking there may be an issue of location
- Reset the router several times
- Updated the driver for the wireless adapter
- Changed the power settings for the computer
- Tweaked the wireless properties by enabling/disabling ipV6
- Reset winsock through command prompt

I have the Realtek PCle GBE Family Controller and running Windows 8 Pro. I really don't know what else to try. My tablet runs off the same connection just fine, but I simply cannot stay connected. Literally, there are times when I lose connectivity once every couple minutes, where other times it might go a couple hours. Thanks in advance for any assistance you folks can give!

Share a connection? You mean with another apartment or the building? Could be the shared AP that's causing the problem.

Hello, I have been using a nic and ics to share my usb modem internet with my xbox via ethernet cable.

I have recently installed a wifi dongle to use as an access point to share the same usb internet with a smartphone.

But now my first connection has limited or no connectivity... Can I share the same internet with them both?

If not how do I switch ics between them as I can't get my original local area connection back to using the ics?

Im using xp sp3

A:limited or no connectivity ics nic wifi usb modem

My guess is "no" but that's only a guess. Let's take a quick look at ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

My wifi keeps dropping after 30 min and giving me a wifi limited connectivity problem: DNS server not responding upon troubleshooting the problem. I have an ASUS notebook 8 months old came pre-installed with Windows 8.1 and with Qualcomm Atheros Wifi Adapter and I use my neighbor's WLAN router to connect to wifi. Sometimes I use the library. My wife has a macbook and has never had a problem at either of these locations. So the router seems to be working perfectly with her computer. If my neighbor's wifi gives me limited signal, my wife keeps surfing away--very frustrating. I do however just use my Android wifi and this magically works when I am getting a limited through the neighbor's WLAN router. Although I have had this Android wifi also cut off on my PC; point being my computer loses wifi and my wife's macbook never does with all these exact same connections.

Before my factory refresh, I was only losing wifi maybe once a day; however I could often trapped after a limited wifi signal not be able to re-connect without multiple re-starts of my computer and DNS refreshes. I could surf online for 8-10 hours, then all of a sudden it wouldn't work. Now it is more like 30 minutes. Either way, there is a major problem with wifi limited connectivity and my neighbor's router. But as I said, my wife's macbook works perfectly and it is actually 9 years old. My PC is 8 months old and can't even connect to wifi. Whats wrong with windows 8.1?

If I type the following command prom... Read more

I'll tell you what seemed to solve the problem for me. I identified the primary/secondary DNS server IP addresses used by my ISP, and then set those IP addresses as primary/secondary DNS servers in both my wireless router and my wireless network adapters. I have no clue why this helped.

Hi there,

So I believe I have caught a trojan somewhere online that is impossible to get rid of.  What it basically does is at random times limit my internet connectivity to a very very reduced speed or remove it altogether.  Sometimes the yellow caution triangle appears over my wifi logo on my taskbar, but sometimes it limits my internet without that sign even appearing.  Internet becomes unusable, as I have to keep disconnecting and reconnecting to load whatever I'm doing.

I tried a full factory system restore, the problem went away for a few days and conveniently came back.  I cannot get rid of it.  The only fix I know as of now is to connect directly to modems through ethernet cables, but I cannot do that everywhere I go (I travel a lot). Then again, this is something fairly new I tried, I don't know if it's a complete fix either (small sample size).

The thing is I've tried troubleshooting this problem before (going through hundreds of forums for similar problems), where the fix worked for a few days, but ultimately came back.  I've been very very careful with everything I do on my computer since, but the problem still came back.  I have Windows 10, and no antivirus program at the moment (used to have AVG, just haven't added one since my last factory restore).

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi. I'm having issues with my modem. Anyways, the problem started when I purchased a Linksys Wrt54G router.

I was connecting to the internet using LAN/ethernet okay. I tried setting up a wifi connection in my home using the linksys wrt54g router. Everything was working fine until after two days when I suddenly can't connect to the internet on my linksys. I tried to directly connect my modem through the ethernet to check if the problem was with my ISP. LAN says limited or no connectivity. I tried plugging the modem through my laptop, I found out that my laptop can connect to the internet using ethernet so the problem was not with my ISP. I had to reset my linksys router and set it up all over again. Wifi connection was okay again.

After three days, I can't get any connection again. I tried directly connecting the modem again to my laptop to check but my laptop says limited or no connectivity. I tried connecting directly to the ethernet on my PC, it says limited or no connectivity again. I tried resetting the Linksys router again and set up my connection again (hoping against hope) and miraculously, I was able to connect.

Now there seems to be a problem with my LAN connections both on my PC and laptop and it seems that only my linksys router can communicate with my modem (everytime I had to do a reset). I tried reseting tcp stack, etc. But my LAN connection is still limited or no connectivity. Any help would be appreciated.

Very difficult to determine how to help you. The only information you have given us is that you have a laptop and network/freezing problems. We need some information about the system, the laptop model, and the laptop manufacturer.

A:Wifi gets limited connectivity and freezes when troubleshooted

the ipconfig /all tends to disagree with the errro message

do a tcp/ip reset - see below

whats the status of the driver - install the latest one from the PC manufacture - whats the make and model of the PC

does that pc work ok anywhere on a wireless network

Is this the only PC that disconnects - do other devices connected work OK - if so how are they connected to the router - wireless or wired

would you post the following tests when the internet is working OK, and then repeat ALL the tests when the internet disconnects.
Make sure you also indicate on the reply which tests are for what condition.

please include the xirrus screen shots for both conditions - see how below.

Please post back here the make and exact model of the router and if you have a separate modem, the make and exact model of the modem.

Please make a note of the status of the lights on the modem and on the router when working normally - post that light status here.
Now when the internet disconnects make a note of the status of the lights for the modem and router here again. also note which have changed.

What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, kaspersky or Mcafee or any free security suites like zonealarm, AVG , Webroot etc

lets see the following please

Hello,  I wanted to clear some issues about my HP Pavilion laptop, I have searched online and most things havent worked for me, I have realised that my wifi usually goes to limited connectivity when either I take my laptop off my lap and place onto my bed (perhaps its because the fans cannot push the hot air out because they are being blocked?) and when I put my charger in. To temporarily fix this I have been going onto the "Network and Sharing Centre" and disabling and re-enabling my wifi, however sometimes I have noticed that I disable it and when I try to re-enable it stays as disabled so.. I hope someone from the support team can help me out, thanks.

Hi Am having connectivity issues on my laptop. I live next door to my father and use his BT Home Hub connection, all my other devices work fine but the HP laptop is causing endless issues. It works for a bit then gets limited and so on. Why is this problem so common on theses laptops, shouldn't this be one issue that should be focused from a products point of view as laptop is pointless without it, mind boggles when a company like HP has this problem. Really getting annoyed with this product. Thanks Mo Jogee

I recently purchased a Pavilion 17t at Costco. Overall, I'm liking the  computer. But it has one major issue, that is unacceptable for a laptop computer. The wifi keeps not working. I haven't found a pattern to this either. I will be connected to my wifi network, and then suddenly the internet will stop working. It still shows connected to the router, but can't reach the internet. I have contacted HP support twice about this now, and their solution has not resolved the issue. The BIOS has been updated, the driver has been updated, Windows 10 has been updated, the wireless driver has been uninstalled and reinstalled. I still have the issue. If I attempt a restart when this happens, the restart takes a very, very long time. I've clocked it at 2 minutes before I did a manual power button restart on it. But the restart issue seems to happen every time the wifi issue happens(assuming I do a restart). I've tried turning the wifi off and on, and that proves difficult. It will often turn back on as soon as I turn it off, or not respond at all to my attempts. If I connect a wired connection to the laptop, I am able to connect to the internet again. All other devices on the wireless router will continue to work fine when this computer does not. What would be my next steps to try and resolve this issue? What more information might you need from me? HP Pavilion 17-g133-cl

A:WiFi limited connectivity issues (Intel AC 3165)

(Edits: Add product and OS info, correct a few grammatical mistakes. Add the "Click 'OK'" step.) Alright, I've been all over the internet trying to fix this as I had the same experience. I've found a solution and I signed up on these forums just to post it. This problem has been a nightmare and I wanted to share. My machine is also the HP Pavilion 17 G1337-CL, which has the Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless ac3165. (I did make one hardware change by swapping out the HDD for an SSD) The problem that I had was produced by Windows power management system. When I went just a few minutes without accessing the internet it would close down. I could have a browser window open, but if I was not actively sending or receiving data, the connection would shut down. This is the two part solution (Windows 10): PART 1Right-click windows start menuSelect "Device Manager"Open the "Network adapters" drop downRight-click "Inter(R) Dual Band Wireless AC-3165"Select "Properties"Select "Power Management" tabUncheck "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power"Click "Ok" PART 2Right-click "RealTek PCIe FE Family Controller"Select "Properties"Select "Power Management" tabUncheck "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power"Click "Ok" Restart the computer (don't know if it is necessary, but I always restart) That fixed it for me. I had found Part 1 on a number of forums, but I had to figure out Part 2 on my own. I purchased a new Windows 8, Inspiron 15 7000 series - 7537 last December. I had been using a router at a hotel for the time, and it worked correctly. When I arrived home, I had a Belkin router, and i experienced network issues in that i could not connect to the wifi. I could connect with Ethernet cable. The problem was fixed through customer support eventually, but I now have a new Comcast router, and i'm experiencing what appears to be the same or a similar issue. I can access the internet fine by wire. With wifi, it says i have access to the internet over the internet icon in the bottom right, but i cannot access webpages. I can use skype, and communicate through it.

It's very likely that the Hamachi connection is causing your problems. You will need to uninstall Hamachi to fix the problem.

This is driving me mad. I've been through multiple forums/Intel's support site/Dell's support site/Microsoft's support site...and nobody seems to have a straight solution.

My new laptop came with Windows 8 pre-installed. I updated all drivers from Dell's website and installed the latest Intel PROSet WIFI drivers v15.6.0.0. I have not installed any anti-virus software and I don't see any installed by Dell. I'm not using any extra firewall software beyond the native windows one and I have not changed it;s configuration. Any software out there that can scan your PC for A-V and/or firewall issues?

None of my other devices have any connectivity issues at all. If I use an Ethernet cable the laptop works perfectly so it's definitely a WIFI issue.

I've disabled the Bluetooth adapter and the Ethernet adapter so that only the WIFI adapter is left enabled. I've tried disabling the Intel drivers and just using Windows to connect. I've tried using fixed IP address instead of DHCP. I've reset the router...basically I've tried all of the obvious things. I also tried the suggestions to use command line instruction to reset the IP stack/etc...but they had no effect.
I feel like it's the drivers themselves. Should I remove the Intel drivers completely?

A:Win8 Intel WIFI limited connectivity / invalid IP config

Welcome to the forum Rob.

Do the other systems have WiFi working because according to your ipconfig/all you aren't picking up anything from the router here.

When you reset the router, did you hold down the hidden button on the side for 30 seconds or did you just reboot the router?

Assuming the router is working and other wireless devices can connect.

Have you tried removing the preinstalled trial version A/V software which is typically preinstalled on your factory Dell system?

Depending on which one is installed you would need to use the special removal tool to get rid of it completely or problems will ensue.

It can also help to remove all the preinstalled bloatware from your new system. Decrapifier will locate those preinstalled programs so that they can safely be removed.

Hi,

I just bought a Sony Vaio with Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100 Network Adapter.

I primarily use the notebook at my home & office network.
Home Network Router: Linksys WRT54G
Office Network Router: Beetel 450BXi (ADSL2+Modem)

The issue am facing is while am on to the network (mostly home network) suddenly it goes into limited connectivity & gets disconnected; while other PC's remain connected.

And then you have to either re-install the Wireless LAN driver or re-start numerous times.

This has been happening regularly. Pls assist in resolving the issue.

I'm having a really annoying problem which is making my laptop almost unusable and a hassle to use. After a while of my laptop being on, my wireless network adapter will suddenly get "limited connectivity", and won't connect to the internet.

Disabling and enabling the adapter will cause my computer to freeze, requiring a restart. The same with troubleshooting. The only thing which fixes this is a fresh reboot, however it always occurs again within the hour.

Sometimes the entire adapter will randomly just disable itself, and the computer will completely freeze, meaning I have to press the power on/off. Sometimes the adapter will just disappear from Device Manager. Searching for "plug and play" devices will cause it to freeze.

Apart from having to reboot, what also seems to work is disabling the wifi from PC Settings, putting the computer to sleep, then awaking it and turning wifi back on. I've had to do that 6 times whilst typing this post.

I've tried flushing my dns, registering it, renewing and releasing. Assigning a static DNS address. All those things. Though I may have done them wrong.

Try reseating the wireless adapter

If the adapter is easily accessible, usually through a cover on the bottom of the laptop.
Remove and reinsert it carefully and firmly to make sure it is not loose.
Then remove and carefully and firmly replace it several times to cure any possible looseness or corrosion.
At the same time check to make sure the antenna leads are securely attached.
Note: This is not taking the machine apart. We do not recommend removing the keyboard when that is necessary to find the wireless.

I'm trying to fix my girlfriend's Windows 7 laptop after she had a virus/malware infection. I'm pretty sure we've successfully cleared the virus (an updated/full scan with Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware in safe mode comes up clean). However, we have had no Internet access since the infection. The wireless router/connection itself is fine (I connect to it daily with my laptop, as I am to write this post) but her laptop won't connect to it, we can't browse any web pages.

I may have made the problem worse in trying to resolve it. I stupidly followed the advice on a forum for some registry edits for Windows XP--deleting WinSock and WinSock2 from the registry and then restarting the computer in hopes they'd re-register themselves. Unfortunately, WinSock2 re-appeared but WinSock did not. I'm wondering if this has created a new problem (or compounded the problems we were already having).

In diagnostics, we currently get the following report: "Wireless Network Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration." I just ran an ipconfig in the command prompt and got the following results:

You seem to have a good wireless connection there, let's expand that a little and add some pings.

Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

NOTE: For the items below in red surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous IPCONFIG command output! Do NOT type <computer_IP_address> into the command, that won't work. Also, the < and > in the text is to identify the parameters, they are also NOT used in the actual commands.

Do NOT include the <> either, they're just to identify the values for substitution.

A computer running Vista Home Premium (Service Pack 1) says IPv4 Connectivity: Local and IPv6 Connectivity: Limited whether I use a wireless connection or a Ethernet cable. It appears to be connected and has Excellent signal strength when I use wireless, but I cant ping anything. In Device Manager Microsoft 6to4 Adapter had a Code 10 - This device cannot start error. I disabled it thinking that it might be the problem. It didn't solve anything but I left it disabled. The other drivers seem happy. I also read that the Internet Protocol Version 6 isn't used so I unchecked it in the connection properties.

so my school has a large wifi network on campus, yay. But I can't seem to use it. I have a wifi card made by microsoft. What happens is 99.9% of the time I try to connect to it I connect and siginal strength is "very good" or "excellent" but I windows fails to renew my IP address. I try to repair the connection a million time but it doesn't work still. It's only worked 3 times so far. Everyone else around me with a laptop can connect to the network no problem. I tried repairing the connection with no luck. I went to the command prompt and typed

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /renew

and /renew fails.

I tried WindowsXP Sock Fix. Still nothing.
I went down to my school's "computer help desk" and wouldn't you know that it worked when I was down there so they couldn't help me, but the second I leave it doesn't work. Great, I don't really wanna stand around the computer help desk to use wifi. I think this world doesn't want me to use wifi..... any help would be appriciated. Thanks.

I know the hardwire connections worked without a problem while I was living on campus but while I am at home on winter break I have to rely on a wireless setup. The machine's specs are listed next to my profile name, and I am using a Linksys wireless-N receiver and router. What happens is once I log on and the machine boots up it automatically connects to my secured and encrypted connection with full signal strength and pretty good speed. It is capable of full internet connectivity and web browsing, but it often fails after a while.

I have had this problem for a couple weeks, ever since I moved out of my dorm. My brother uses the same USB receiver and we tried switching out the adapters with the same result so I am also fairly certain the adapter is not the cause here. Typically, if I only browse the web the connection has no problems, but if I try to connect to Steam or use Himachi to connect to a LAN with some friends the signal changes from high strength to limited connectivity and displays the yellow triangle/exclamation point icon on the task tray. Once this occurs I am unable to connect to the internet whatsoever, though the signal strength from my router is still very strong. I live in an apartment and my room is right next to where the router is located with only a wall getting in between the adapter and router, so I don't think that's an issue either. Oh, and the... Hello,

I am not certain what is relevant information, but this is an acer R7-571 with Windows 8.1. Though I can find networks when out and about, say at Starbucks or something, I cannot connect to them. It comes back with the response that the "connection is limited". This happens at friends' houses as well, using their password to join the network it always says connection limited and then I cannot get on the web.

I have tried all of the fixes that I could find thus far, but have had no success. I know, this is vague, I don't recall what I was doing, but through searching you can find some "solutions" but unfortunately they have not worked for me.

Currently I am trying to access a VPN using CiscoAnyconnect and this does not work either, is this connected to my other issue? The failure with the VPN is that "The VPN connection failed due to unsuccessful domain name resolution".

Thanks for any help, Terry

A:acer R7 Connectivity Issues - limited connectivity

Welcome,
To use VPN you must be known by the server you are trying to reach. I've used VPN to connect from home to my work network. I needed the information from our IT department to reach our servers and they had to grant me access so that the domain would allow me to play.
Have you done any configuration to your network card as far as DNS servers or any of the other parameters available?
Keep us posted

Hey, i have a windows 7 laptop that ive just recently purchased. The wireless Connectivity was working fine last week, now suddenly it just wont work. I believe that its due to a program i recently installed that goes by the name of Connectify. I have uninstalled it yet still whenever i try connecting to any router wirelessly, the PC displays limited or no connectivity. On the other hand When i connect my laptop to a router via an Ethernet cable everything is fine. In case you are wondering, im currently using a 3g usb wireless stick to surf the internet, but i dont want to use it as i already have a router to use. Here are all my info:

Sometimes when I'm using the internet, most frequently when I'm using a lot of resources, ie torrenting large files, my wifi will stop working, and eventually go limited. This is always fixed by turning my wifi off and on. I've updated all my network card drivers and have disabled the power management option that allows my computer to turn off the adapter, what other solutions are there to this problem? Adapter is a ralink rt3290 and I think it might be a problem with this adapter specifically, if anybody could help me here that would be awesome

A:Wifi keeps going limited, fixed by turning wifi off and on

That is usually caused by a router, or failing networking adapter.

SHe holds a connection fine, but now I cannot even access the internet at all. I have an ATT 2WIRE modem if that helps, but it seems to be working fine...the issue is on my end. Hello,

I'm having an odd internet connectivity problem that I've tried to fix in several ways, but can figure out no other way to tackle.

A few days ago, I had a virus problem and went into Safe Mode to delete it. I don't know if I somehow also messed up something else, but my internet connection hasn't been working quite the same since. I can connect to the internet for general use, but my Windows sidebar (which has gadgets requiring internet) are not connecting to the internet. In addition, I play FlyFF, and when I try to connect to the server, it says that I'm unable to connect to server, as if I'm not on the internet. When I look at my Network Connections, and my Local Area Connection status it says IPv4 Connectivity: Internet; IPv6 Connectivity: Limited.

I don't know what to do to fix this, and have tried looking online for a solution. I appreciate any and all help you intelligent gurus can offer me. Thank you!

I have a dell laptop that is on a network with a netgear router that is hooked up to a modem which is connected to my parents computer. I was surfing the internet with no problems. Then I got off came back a little while later and now I have no internet. I use Intel ProSet Wireless to connect to the netgear router network that I have set up. It says that I am connected to the network but then I get a little pop up that says I have limited or no connectivity. I have restarted both computers, I unplugged everything and plugged it back in, I have set up the the network again.... nothing seems to work. I ran a diagnostic tool that ran tests to make sure that the wireless adapter is working correctly. All the test come back normal except for the ping test. It says "No Response: default gateway, DHCP server". I am perplexed. What is going on?

Lets start with the setup

My computer connects directly to the intermet. Sisters connects "Trys to" via a Wired connection to my computer.

It works ok most of the time... But the last two/Three times the modem has been reset*virgin problems in our area*, the net doesn't come back on her computer
I thought it might be something to do with the IP address's as it gets stuck on the Unable to retrieve the IPaddresses lol, The Connection between computers, and my computer to Net are all set to "Obtain an IP/DNS address Automatically"

Also, the Connection between the Two computers comes up as "Unidentified network"

Any help at all would be great, also, I tried Ding'n her computer from mine, Nothing got thru, Didnt do mine because when i did the /IPconfig thing, it came up with like 7+ connections, and i only have 2 active network things on my computer "Modem and the cable to other computer" so i was nervous about which is which etc lol,

Hello, i have searched through threads about the same thing but cannot get an answer!

Set up,

wireless router

3 PC's, one wired, two wireless

wired works fine and so does one wireless.

wireless that works is using DHCP

wireless that doesn't work ( running windows XP Pro SP2) will not pick up an IP address, instead assigns itself that windows 169.x.x.x address. Hence the limited or no connectivity error.

Changing to a Static address from within the correct ranges and using the correct Default gateway and Primary DNS server changes the limited or no connectivity message to the normal connected one. However, can't ping out to anything and as such no internet.

i tried two netsh commands to fix winsock with no joy.

Windows F/W off

i saw somehwere about making sure workgroup settings are correct but i don't know what correct should be as you just choose your own? i should still be able to access internet from router even if all the compouters were not in same workgroup.

uninstalled/re-installed network adapter (it's a netgear btw)

The reason i started working on this computer was there was a problem with a corrupt profile, so i was helping a friend start again, cos all drivers were gone etc. So i setup a new profile and i remember changing the workgroup as at the same time as fixing this i was going to see about setting up file sharing and printer sharing, so was going to set them all on the same workgroup. Like i said up there though i can... Read more

To resolve this, I have to turn off the router, wait a few seconds, then turn back on. I can connect after that. What can I do to avoid this?

First stop would be to upgrade the firmware on the router. Many times these kinds of issues are addressed in firmware upgrades.

I don't know if it's related or not, but I ran Avast yesterday, deleted a couple of Trojans and some other malware, and ever since I've not had connectivity to the internet. It says that there is no network address and that it can't renew the network address. My laptop which is running on the same network is working fine, so I have a hard time believing that.

Reading through some other threads with similar issues I tried the following advice:

JohnWill said:

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2/SP3.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands:

Note: Type only the text in bold for the following commands.

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type: netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults, type: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reboot the machine.Click to expand...

However, my computer said that it couldn't find the int ip reset.log batch file or something like that. It would however, do the winsock thing, but after a reboot, there was still no connectivity, which I had figured on since both steps probably have to be done to achieve the full effect, but I thought I would give it a try anyway.

I'm not sure what to do at this point, so I'll let you guys do your thing, since you've got a lot more experience in this than I do. Thanks in advance!! In the meantime, I think I'm going to ... Read more

This doesn't look standard. I am not used to seeing so much Hex in the first clause.

The one thing I can say for certain is that you have no default gateway established. This should be the IP address of the router your connecting to. Therefore you are not on a network capable of reaching the INTERNET.

Really, this is posted in the wrong forum. Try posting under Internet/Networking.

This isn't alot of info but I can provide whats needed I just need to know how.

sorry for the trouble and thank you

A:Limited to no connectivity

It won't be able to request an address from the DHCP server until it can connect. I suspect you're right in surmising that the problem is connected with the security. You need to find out what privacy technology is in use i.e. WEP (in which case, get it changed - a four-year old can crack WEP...), WPA, etc. Then you need to find out the key and remember that the key is case-sensitive, where 'LetMeIn' is not the same as 'letmein'.

IMPORTANT NOTE. I also started getting blue screen crashes with the error code:
Driver_ipql_not_less_or_equal Netw5v64. I found out this error is related to my laptops NIC and a possible outdated driver.

Is there anyway i can know for sure it is my NIC and if the problem can be fixed with a driver, how do i download it with no internet connectivity.

A:Limited Connectivity due to bad NIC?

I would say you would have to download it to a working pc and then export it to a disc/usb drive etc and then import it from there to the problem pc

Hi, I know this topic has been covered a while ago but I couldn't find the answer I was looking for and I am getting REALLY annoyed with my laptop!
My flatmate and I both have laptops (same make and model) and have recently had wireless broadband installed at home. When he fires up his laptop he automatically connects without a hitch however EVERY time I turn mine on I get a Limited Connectivity sign (yellow triangle with an ! mark). The only way to rectify this is to turn the router off for 10 seconds and then back on which is a pain.
The only difference between our laptops is that I have Windows Vista. Whenever I click on "diagnose and repair", the only advice it gives me is to turn the router off , wait and turn it back on. As you can imagine, this is getting really frustrating!

HELP!!!

Hi,

Please can someone help me to get back my internet connection? I have a belkin wireless router, it's not a direct connection to my cable modem.
This morning when I turned my PC on I had the 'limited or no connectivity' message, since then I have tried the following:

All windows options i.e repair connection, reset routers/modems etc.....
Tried different RJ45 cable
Reinstalled the network adapter

I am currently on a laptop conected wirelessly to my router, so I am assuming the problem is localised to my PC and the router.....I also noticed there is a connection (100Mbps) so I am sure it's my internet settings which have scrambled. I am out of ideas so does anyone know what the problem could be? is there a way of resetting the network connection?

I am currently using Vista Ultimate 64bit edition.

Thanks

Phil

My internet connection up on until now has been working fine, until all of a sudden it is unable to connect

I am unsure whether this has anything to do with it, but by accident I dropped my laptop on the floor whilst falling asleep, and the next morning found it had limited connectivity to my network

I have tried many different networks, and my current network works with other laptops but not mine

I am unable to ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew but it says "The operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation"

If you need any information ask me, Thanks in advance

I've just bought a new laptop with vista and am trying to get my wireless to work but no matter what i do it keeps telling me i have excellent signal strength but limited connectvity and no access to the internet. (There are two other computers in the house using the same wireless router and they work perfectly) I've tried a few different things but nothing seems to have any effect and it's driving me mad! Any ideas?

A:Limited Connectivity....help!!

it may be a firewall that os blocking your access - try exiting any firewalls you have on the machine

Make and model of the laptop?
make andmodel of the router ?

also post an ipconfig /all here - you may need to use the 2nd method and copy onto the machine which you are using to post - use a usb flashdrive or cd-rw to copy

ipconfig /all

TWO Methods to do that - some people have problems with ONE----

ONE ---------------------------------
start
run
cmd
ipconfig /all

rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

TWO -----------------------------------------------

Start, Run, CMD to open a DOS window and type:

IPCONFIG /ALL >C:\RESULT.TXT

Open C:\RESULT.TXT with Notepad and copy/paste the entire results here.

I have recently attracted the annoying message, Limited or no Connectivity, on my internet network connection. I heard it was a problem/bug with SP2, and I am looking for an answer.

My internet works, however, we are on a network, and it's the other PC which can't connect.

I have a Local Area Connection, which I use to connect to the internet.

I have a connection which is my network card, used to link the 2 PCs on the network. Sometimes, I am getting the message on my side to.

Usually, I go into network connections on the other machine, which is on the network, configure the network, and another connection icon will appear saying Local Area Connetion on John (my machine), which is normal. This then lets us both use the internet on the network.

I do not use a router, just a wire going from my PC to the other one.

I have tried everything. The Windows SP2 patch, another one which is something to do with clearing all the TCP/IP Stack, and that does nothing. I have also tried uninstalling SP2 but to no availl. I have ran these programs on both PC's, and have had no luck.

I don't seem to be getting the limited or no connectivity icon as much, since I reinstalled SP2, I just can't get the network icon to appear on the other machine, showing it has connected to my PC through the network, after configuring the home and networking wizard with Windows.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Alright - Heres my situation - any help would be hugely appreciated.

We have our home internet hooked up through a Belkin Router.

We have 3 PCs connected to it through ethernet direct cabling, and 3 laptops that connect via a wireless connection (yes, it can easily handle more connection if needed).

All the ethernet connections work fine. The wireless connections have worked fine for 6 months. About 3 weeks ago one of the laptops got a limited connetivity message - I fixed that eventually by uninstalling and reinstalling the wireless adapter through the device manager. 2 weeks ago a second laptop had the same issue - which I have been unable to resolve, and now the 1st laptop has the same issue as well - Limited Connectivity. The laptops send packets but dont receive any.

The 3rd laptop (also connected wirelessly) has no problems at all (even my phone, which has wlan, works and the PS3 connects wirelessly no probs, but not 2 of the laptops). Its really annoying and confusing. Been trying for 2 weeks to fix it - have tried everything I could think of, friends could think of, and google could find for me.

Yes - all settings are identical on the laptops. And yes - I have tried the XP SP2 patch, the PCHell limited connectivity sollution, manually assigning ip addresses, single connections to the router. Even borrowed a friends usb wireless adapter to see if it was wireless network cards - but that worked on the pcs and laptop that was ok, failed on the other 2 limi... Read more

Please let me know what's the problem and I can try to GIT R' DONE!:haha: Thanks!

A:Limited or no connectivity

Are you using a Router?
Are you just using cable modem connected to a PC?
Have you updated the firmware on the router?
Have you updated the drivers for the network card on your desktop or laptop?
Do a power on and off on the cable modem then on the router if you're using it.
If you just have the cable modem contact comcast has let them remote into your cable modem to see if their is a problem with it. If they find a problem you can, get one from them or save some money and go to one of the electronic stores and buy a cable modem. If you buy one on your own you have to tell comcast the mac address on the unit so they can join you to their network otherwise you won't be able to get onto the internet.

Hello everybody,
This is the first time i'm attempting this kind of forum (forums at all).
I've encountered i problem of assigning a copmuter to a network.
I recived a message form Network Connections "Limited or No Connectivity".
The settings are on Auto mode. Gaining IP adress should be from the DHCP server but when i check the instant IP is out of IP Adress Pool, while DNS server IP is 192.168.41.1, for example it gives 169.254.99.1.
And If i give the IP adress manually the the copmuter doesn't want to see the server.

HOW CAN I SOLVE THIS PROBLEM
Thanks in advance.

A:Limited or no Connectivity

Start from ground up..

I assume you are connecting to a LAN via a cable.

When you plug in the cable, do you get a link light on the NIC and the device at the other end? (BTW, how exactly is your network built?)

Is this a fresh Windows installation or just some random computer? Do you have the DHCP client service running?

Try running Winsockfix.

Do you have any software firewalls, VPN software, packet sniffers? Uninstall or disable those.

Boot a CD Linux like Knoppix and see if Linux manages to obtain an IP. This way you can see whether the issue is software- or hardware-related.

Ok so I have a Netgear router with 1 computer connected to it wirelessly (this one), one connected by a cable, and a connected PS2 game system. I get full connection to the internet on the wireless connection and the PS2 but I am getting Limited or No Connectivity. It worked fine yesterday but today it isn't. The only thing that was changed was some of the things that startup with the computer. I used Spybot Search and Destroy to deactivate some things in order to hopefully increase the computer's performance. Nothing I disabled strikes me as important to the connectivity of the computer. I just disabled things like Microsoft Works, AIM6, quicktime, and other things I knew wouldn't affect the computer and only slow it. But, it's the only reason I can come up with as to why this happened.

When looking at the support on the connection I go to details under where it gives me the message "Limited or no connectivity You might not be able to access... This problem occured because the network did not assign a network address to the computer" and it shows that it has a physical address, ip address, and subnet mask. The DNS server is blank as is the default gateway and WINS server.

Please help. I'll be pleased to give you any other information that will help.

Hello, i've got some problems with my network connection.. It says the message Limited or no connectivity, i've read the threads on these and other forums with no solution for my problem, just installed Windows XP Service Pack 2.

Thought this might be usefull to know:

The network doesn't work before 18.00 or 6 P.M and stops working again at 12.00... It works finely at the time after 6. My wireless network works, but its so far from the router so it lags and disconnects sometimes, so i can go to the internet, but can't play any online games or load any stuff faster than 30kb/s.

Plz help and answer asap=)

Thank You in advance.

Wireless networking in Windows has me whipped. I'm trying to add a desktop running WinXP to an existing wireless network. The computer finds the network, says it's connected and the signal is very good, but there is "limited or no connectivity."

(Actually, that same message seems to crop up a lot).

There was a previous thread on this site, which was responded to by a moderator who suggested resetting winsock settings using the Command window. That worked for the previous poster. Didn't work for me.

When I try the "Repair" function offered, it gets as far as refreshing my IP address, spends a while, says it has a new address but it still can't connect.

I have Norton 360 with windows firewall off and access connections as the software for connecting to WiFi. I have tried without the software as well. Access connections tells me all green up to ip configuration where it fails. This laptop has connected in the past, but every now and again it wont connect for a few days. Where I live at offers free WiFi so I don't have access to the router nor know what it is. Didn't think this would be a problem seeing as my phone can connect with no problems. I have also tried registry editing.

I have a dsl connection where I am unable to connect due to 'limited connectivity' message. My service provider gave me a solution by modifying the Local Area Connection - TCP/IP settings. Instead of the default 'obtain IP address automatically' they gave me a specified IP address, subnet mask and default gateway to use. This works great but whenever I switch upon using my router I am unable to connect anymore. Any kind of input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Here is the solution the dsl provider gave me:

*Use the following IP Address

IP Address: 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1

Btw, my router is Linksys Wireless G.
