y510P USB power cycling

Q: y510P USB power cycling

Power cycling is the best way I can describe it. Approximately once a day, my y510p will power cycle all of its USB ports simultaneously, this is the two USB 3.0 ports as well as the USB 2.0 port (which makes things even stranger considering they are on separate controllers). I will lose connection to all devices (for me an external hard drive, USB 3.0 dock, and USB 2.0 mouse) and they will all come up again a moment later as just being plugged in. It is not the same time of day each day. My drivers are up to date. This occurred under Windows 8.1 64-bit and Windows 10 64-bit. There is also no correlation to whether there is a lot of data moving through the ports or if they are just idle.

I recently built a new PC and immediately ran into the problem where it would cycle on and off. Essentially, I plug it in, it turns on, then after about 5-10 seconds it turns itself off. It then tries to continue to turn itself on and off until I press the switch to shut power off to the power supply.
Originally, I thought it might be a problem with my motherboard. I accidentally did not use standoffs when I first powered it up, so I figured I must have created a short in my motherboard, and research on the internet agreed. So I ordered another mother board which arrived today. I plugged it in with bare minimum attached to it running it on a piece of cardboard. Exact. Same. Problem. Cycles on and off.
So I figure that it would be a power supply problem. Normally it goes against my better nature to shop at Best Buy, but I am fairly frustrated at this point so I decided to do it anyway. I even decided to upgrade from the Corsair CS 550 to the 750 because whatever, I'm an impulse buyer. So I get home and plug it in, once again run it with the new motherboard on a piece of cardboard. And guess what. Same thing happens. It cycles on and off once again.
So I have no idea what this might be. I would assume its something wrong with the case power button (which doesn't really make much sense) or the computer cant draw enough power from the apartment I live in (which also doesn't make much sense as I have other things which require at least 110V and run fine). At this point I'm a bit p... Read more

Here are my specs:
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2100 CPU @ 3.10GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 42 Stepping 7

Hard Drives: C: Total - 300002 MB, Free - 56569 MB; D: Total - 176926 MB, Free - 168810 MB;

Graphics Card: 01G-P3-1450-TR GeForce GTS 450 FPB (Free Performance Boost) 1024MB GDDR5 PCIe 2.0 x16 Video Card
Power Supply: 500 W

Problem:Now on to the issue, the motherboard I have has an onboard video card which works perfectly fine without the Geforce GTS 450. However, once I put in the GTS 450 the computer will boot up to the windows screen so it passes the bios but then it will flash a blue screen for a split second and restart and go back to bios and repeat this cycle. I can hear the power dipping (sounds like zapping noise) and the fans will turn off for a split second.

Solution Attempts: I have replaced the motherboard, the graphics card (got the same one), and the power supply. I have checked to make sure RAM was securely in place, have taken out and re-put in the graphics card and made sure power cable was secure, I have reset CMOS on the motherboard, I have uninstalled all previous drivers and disabled onboard video.

I have a strange fault that's driving me crazy. First thing in the morning when I turn the PC on via the front power button it powers up, but I get no display. Hitting reset does nothing. Holding the power button on and forcing the system to power down, then hitting power again gives me the same result - no display.

If I toggle the power on & off via the rear switch on the supply itself, the system boots ok. From this point I cannot get the system to fail again and all runs well until the next morning. Then the same thing again. The only way I can get the system to boot first thing in the morning is to power up via the front power button, turn it off at the power supply (i.e. open cct the mains supply) then hit the front power button again.

The system consists of an Athlon 64 3000 + skt 754, Gigabyte k8VM800M (all in one) mobo, 512MB Corsair value select DDR 400, Segate 120GB SATA 1 drive, Liteon DVD ROM & DVDRW, Enlight 300W supply.

I have changed the supply with an Antec 400W - still no good. I have removed all power & data cables from all drives leaving just the CPU, RAM & integrated graphics - still no good. I swapped the RAM - still no good. I changed the Mobo with a new identical model - still no good. The only original part left is the CPU. (Which I have no spare available). I have flashed the Bios on both Mobo's to the latest (F8) still the same.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I would be most grateful.

Hello all, I hope someoene here can help, it would be greatly appreciated.
I have a HP Pavilion desk top running XP Media. I have been having a problem with my USB ports on the front. At first, they didn't seem to want to recoginize anything. I uninstalled and reinstalled all the usb ports, and thought I had it working, (for the most part) Still had problems from time to time. Today, I plugged my mp3 player in, and the power would come on so I could open up my files, then they would lose power, then turn back on, then lose power. After messing around with it for a bit, I couldn't get it to power again. At that point, I gave up. It didn't matter what USB port I used, they all worked like this on the front. The ones on the back of the computer seem to be working fine, as my keyboard, mouse, and wireless air card is all plugged in back there.

Thanks in advance for your help.

NOTE: Moderators, if you feel this issue would be better suited in another sub-forum. Please let me know.

Okay so starting sometime this morning I have started having an issue with my displays. (My system specs are in my profile.) I am running a dual monitor setup with one being a Dell U3415W and the other being a Vizio M65-C1 65" 4K UHD TV. I use the one monitor to do work and the TV for entertainment (movies, games, etc.) so here is the problem. Up until this morning everything worked as it should. If I was watching a TV show or something I could turn monitor 1 off and back on as necessary without disturbing what was going on, on monitor 2. Now when I turn monitor 1 off and then back on I get nothing but a black screen. I am able to fix this by unplugging the monitor from the back of the computer, then plugging it back in. everything seems to work fine after that until I, once again, turn the monitor back off.

While monitor 1 has the black screen, I have checked display properties using the TV and it shows the monitor is still detected, and the proper resolution. Also, the monitor itself acts as if it is still functioning because the "no signal" image doesn't appear and it doesn't go to sleep it just stays black.

I am completely at a loss for what could be the issue. Thanks in advance for any help anyone is able to offer.

A friend built a computer nearly 2 years ago for me. It has recently started running hot, I was going to replace the stock H70 bans but I figured I would do a reseat and re apply thermal paste prior to doing so. Re applied the thermal paste, cleaned it off of the H70 and put it on the cpu, reseat it and put everything back together and it started power cycling. I realized after re doing everything that some pins are bent on the socket, I am not sure if he did it or I might have, I was EXTREMELY careful though.

So now I have power cycling, I have cleared my cmos and tried different ram, if I leave 1 stick of ram in, it makes it 5 seconds, if I put all 4 in it restarts instantly but if I remove them all it lasts 10-15 seconds and then beeps once fast and shuts off to do it all over again.

I have tried bending them back, still have the same issue. I am going to the store to get a bigger magnifying glass soon and going to remove the mobo completely so I can see better. How likely is it that this is not fixable?

I don't particularly want to buy another motherboard atm considering the new CPU comes out in 5 months and would need another than also.

My specs are

i7 2600k not OCed
8 GB G.SKILL Ripjaws X DDR3 1600
gigabyte ga-p67a-ud3p-b3

Not sure what else you will need but I will be checking this regularly.

I wonder if anyone else has tried rebooting a Windows 8 machine remotely yet. This is probably not a common occurrence yet, though it someday may be, and it turned out to be quite a debacle. Obviously we all know that in order to reboot a machine, we have to access the charms bar, go to settings and then power, then restart. This turned out to be almost impossible for me to accomplish remotely using ultravnc, as I could only see a small portion of the screen, and the charms kept vanishing from the screen while I was trying to get to settings. Is there another simple way to restart the machine that I am missing, that does not rely on mouse gestures, or 3rd party applications?

Random freezing (often times accompanied by a loud, scratching/buzzing noise coming from the speakers/headphones)
Random restarts
Power cycles a lot before POST.
Freezes at "Preparing Automatic Repair" and PC promptly restarts automatically; sometimes freezes at Windows logo (need to manually restart)
Note that these issues don't always appear. Sometimes I can go for a week without issues. Sometimes I get 5-10 power cycles in one day. When they do happen, they cause a minor 2-3 minute inconvenience. But it is annoying since my games work is interrupted.
Things I've tried (not in order):
Set CPU speed to stock, issues still present. No problems running prime95. OC is also stable with prime95. Tested GPU with Unigine's Heaven, temperatures were fine.
Monitored temperatures during freezing using HWiNFO. It's stable, but it's also hard to simulate the conditions for freezing/crashing. It's completely random.
BIOS update to v1.9 aggravates the freezing/random restarts. v1.8 keeps freezing/restarting at startup. v1.7 is what I have and is "stable".
Reinstalled OS, problems still present.
Moved GPU to another PCI slot, no change.

Hello, I have a Y510P notebook and I am having some problems with it. Once I was playing on this laptop and it suddenly it turned off. The power cord would make a weird noise and it wouldn't turn on. After a while it started to work normally. It was probably a high voltage spike in my house, since we already lost a cellphone. After that I notice that the laptop would turn off, as soon as I plugged the power cord. I ordered a new power cord and battery, but this issue is still happening. Anyone has an idea? Thank you!

A:Plugging power cord turns laptop off (Y510P)

Hi Tiagoramosleite,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
You can initially start isolating the issue using the power checkout guideline (page 21).
Try to notice anything on the DC port like bent pin , unusual appearance / marks or smell of burnt .
Would any led status light (page30) still be lit when plugged in.
It would be best to have it further checked for further isolation for dc in port issue against failure on the systemboard itself with nearest service center or call in technical support for further recommendation.
Update us how it works best for you.

Hi everyone - I have 2 issues with my y510p (it's a little less than a year old, so with the warranty coming up I figured I may want to get some second opinions). The first is that recently, say within the last month or so, it has developed the habit of rebooting for no discernible reason and with no warning.  It will just snap to a black screen instantly.I've done a full refrresh of my Windows 8. I've run all the validation tools I could think of (hard drive/mem/OS files/etc.) There's nothing particular evident in my event viewer except for this in my system errors:'The description for Event ID 0 from source GeneStor cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. So as a heads up for anyone else that might be encountering either of these issues - I called support just now and I'm sending it off for repair.  Bit of a bummer since this is my work machine (thankfully I have my t500 from college still kicking around to use in the meantime). Tech support was really nice and quick. Didn't make me walk through the diagnostics/troubleshooting I'd already done which is refreshing. Hopefully this is just a fluke because apart from these issues I really like this machine (and as I said, my thinkpad is rock solid.)

Hello Bleeping computer

My 5 year old daughter managed to get on my destop the other day and started something running from the internet whilst looking for cartoons. The screen had frozen and i waited for a good 15 mins before turning off with the button on the front of the desktop. When i turned the PC back on it started cycling through the XP boot system, only very quickly flicking past the blue screen to start the cycle again. I managed to run my operating system disc by pressing F10 at startup and choosing CDrom. The disc started to run a repair on my PC then stopped at the blue screen, this is what it stated:

I forgot to mention that the PC boots to the safe mode option screen but none of the safe mode options work, they freeze whilst listing the drivers then again the XP boot screen starts again!!

If anyone could help that would be great!!
Thanks in advance

Ok, I play video games so to my family, im obviously a super computer tech, right? anyways...

My sisters computer (an E-machines) just one day started cycling its boot up over and over. First you see the Emachines screen... then the win xp screen... then back to the Emachines screen... repeating over and over.

I did some research and other emachine owners led me to believe it was a motherboard issue. So, i have a computer i stopped using about 6 months ago cause it was having Hard Drive issues. I brought that over to my sisters house, pulled the HD out, and put the HD from her machine into mine. Same problem. it simply cycles over and over.

My question is, is this a software issue.... or perhaps is her HD damaged??

Not sure what course to take now. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

A:pc cycling rebooting?

I just fixed my sister computer with the same prob. What I did was to restore it to a previous point that the computer actually worked. Did this and the computer worked. I have had another computer that the problem turned out to be the mother board was over heating. Try the restore point first. Then try a clean install. If that does not work then it is the nasty overheating which usually ends up frying the board.

I cannot remember what I told it to do---my selection was not safe mode---I never saw that---but it sounded close. Minimal.....maybe?

Anyhow--when the computer rebooted it goes through the normal start up process...but the desktop screen never loads and the whole process starts up again.

I did hit delete to get to the BIOS screen. But don't know what to do in there so I did not do anything crazy. This is terrible description I know.

It never had problem booting up before so it must have been something I did.

sorry friends, I know issues like this have been brought up in the past but I don't know what to do.

I recently built (not without difficulty and help from friends) a new computer. I had planned on it being used just for school but, when assembled and running, decided I'd like to game a bit as well.

My initial specs were:
Win 7 RTM
GA-EP45-UD3P v1.6 mobo
Intel Core2Duo E4800
2x2GB DDR2 PC 8500 ram
1x ATI 4670 GPU
Antec Sonata Designer case with 500w psu

this setup worked fine

When I decided I wanted to get a bit more gaming power I went out and purchased a second ATI 4670... I soon learned about CrossfireX and trying to get my 2 cards to work became an unsuccessful project for the next few days. Although a dual GPU system was never realized, I booted and ran Windows without issue.

My next step was to return both ATI 4670's and leave frys with a
BFG's GeForce GTX 285 OC
and an Antec 850W True Power Quattro PSU

I removed EVERYTHING from the Antec case, used a dremmel tool to cut into the HDD housing rack (space for the new GeForce was too short by an 2cm), installed the new PSU along with the remaining component's from above.

What I did not do was uninstall the drivers and software for my ATI's before returning them. I thought this might be an issues but figured I could correct it without too much trouble.

My computer has not posted since, at least I don't think so. The fans start spinning, blank screen, and after 30s to 1... Read more

the System Idle Process is not a process, more a counter which is displayed in WinTasks used for measuring how much idle time the CPU is having at any particular time. This counter will display how much CPU Resources, as a percentage are 'idle' and available for use.

Come down the next morning and turn it on. This time it will get to the same Windows Loading screen with the blue bar except after like 7 seconds of loading, it will turn off and reboot itself. This will happen continuously with no user interaction. Any ideas are greattly appreciated!

Unfortunately i'm not here referring to the jolly little exercise involving pedals and tight fitting shorts.

My friends machine keeps cycling. 1st suspected problem was the hard drive, as for some reason this system seems to keep eating Hdd's. So new disk purchaced, and installed. "Oh goody" it's recognised by the bios, boots from the XP cd, starts loading basic drivers etc... gets as far as the option screen, (i.e. "To set up windows now, press enter...") then decides that, for kicks, it would like to repeat the previous excercise, and reboots, much to my frustration.

Unfortunatly I cannot recall the exact spec of the machine, only that it is an Athlon 1200, running 256MB Ram, and the new disk is a western digital 80GB.

Have tried the said Hdd on my machine with no problems, installed XP without a hitch, therefore ruling out a failed disk.

Any suggestions as to its apparent compulsion to reboot?

Thanks in advance.

A:System Cycling

Artie: Try running a memory test on the machine. 256MB is really not enough memory for XP, altho it will work.
If more memory is available, I'd try it. But first, run Memtest 86 for at least 3-4 hours.
There should be NO errors.

I've dealt with this problem for a long time and I'm getting pretty frustrated. Using a Toshiba Satellite (laptop) A305 running Vista Home Premium x64. Checked my router and internet connections using other non-Vista laptop and wireless connection - no problem with them.

When the internet runs, it runs like a charm...

Seemingly without warning, internet connection will disappear. Tends to go from Internet Connected, to Connected to Router (but no internet connection), to Not Connected (even to router), to Connected to Router, to Not Connected, to Internet Connected. All of this doesn't happen in a regular or predictable manner (including how long it takes to go through the "cycles").

Normally, if I leave the computer alone for a few minutes (15-30), it will go back to full connection.

Makes me want to through my computer against the wall at times. Please help?

Let me know if there is any additional information you might need.

I just installed Total Annihilation and expansions on my computer and restarted it. My computer began restarting normally but every time it got to the end of the restarting process it brings up a page with an error message that isn't shown long enough to see what it says, then it turns off and restarts again all by its self.

What do I do?

A:Cycling Restarts

The first thing would be to disable "Automatically restart". This might give you the oppurtunity to view the error. To do this (in XP), click on start button, right click on My Computer, go to Properties, Advanced tab, "Settings" button under Startup and Recovery, deselect "Automatically restart". Had to do this myself recently because of display driver problems, and it allowed me time to find a fix. Hope this helps.

Hi. Thanks in advance for any help or advice you can give on this one:

In task manager, I see that explorer keeps using 2% of resources all the time. So I open 'process monitor' and see that explorer keeps calling "ieframe.dll". A web search indicates that ieframe.dll is part of IE7. I do use IE7, and it seems to work properly. But after a reboot, without ever invoking IE7, windows explorer keeps running the "ieframe.dll".

There is a "buffer overflow" in the 'process monitor' listing (below). There are no errors in the system event viewer. Application programs seem to work correctly. This MIGHT have started just after Norton detected and quarantined a small swarm of threats, cleverly called "a.exe" "b.exe" "c.exe" etc. Norton says my system is clean.

Any thoughts on how to stop the continuous calling of ieframe.dll by explorer. [Yes, it's being called by explorer, not internet explorer].

Thanks, John

I'm trying to get the cycling background to extend onto both displays so i will have one continuous background rather than two identical ones. all my wallpapers are dualscreen, but windows is displaying them all smashed together on both displays. It worked one boot up, and im unable to make it reoccurring. I've checked what i think are all the menus, but i cant seem to find any option that changes that. im almost positive i can accomplish this without a third party app.

Pretty sure that it works if you set your wallpapers to tile. It only looks good if you have wallpapers for your exact res though.

System: Windows XP Professional, Audigy 2 ZS

My system audio mute is turning on and off over and over at random intervals as short as a second or two, long as 5 or 10 minutes. Things I have tried:

1) Updated sound device driver
2) Replaced keyboard
3) Uninstalled program that was added around the time this began
4) Bought and ran registry cleaner
5) System Restore
6) Ruled out applications as the cause (happens in all apps)

This system has run fine for several months, almost every component is brand new, and there have been no system or hardware changes in the timeframe where this has been happening.

Thanks for your help

I'm having a problem with windows cycling between the BIOS info to the welcome page and back again. This occurred when I loaded some software (Avira anti virus) and then had to restart. I tried my original Windows disk and tried repairing my OS. It got worse, now it does it when I boot my CD from the CD. Any suggestions?

Hello Bill

Try the easiest things first.
See if you can get to the Safe Mode Options Screen
Reboot and start pressing F8 continually. You should come to the page with Safe Mode Options (Last Known Good Config) etc

Try selecting "Last Known Good Config" first.

If that does not work select
'Safe mode with command prompt'

At the command prompt type

Hopefully this will open System Restore, so restore to before the problem started

I went into the bios to perform an hdd check, and it came up as ''passed" I would normally just perform a restore, but I cant even get to a point where I can do that. I had an unexpected glitch with the main machine just half an hour ago and I am getting a startup repair window cycling over and over.
I ran some scans Superantispyware and ADW they found nothing much did a system restore but it didn't work and am now at a loss as to what to do as my last back up was over two weeks ago.

I have been having a few problems all day with it to be honest like mail not downloading, my backup and restore in the Control Panel not working and any drives hooked up not being "seen". I have done the usual stuff before it went completely as SFC but before I could get to chkdsk it has finally got to this cycling thing.

Lucky I have most of my gear on this machine and the laptop but am now thinking maybe it is a total install.

The photos app live tile keeps cycling the same 5-6 photos always even though the app has been linked to thousands of photographs. Any way to change this? Thanks.

A:Photos app cycling same pics always

i had the same issue. somewhere there is a suggestion to uninstall and reinstall the app from the store, which i did, now *no* photos are shown in the photo app. library has 1000s of photos, also i cannot open a photo to the photo app via right-click > open with... . this issue is irritating because it appears windows uses this app to change lock screen and user picture.

what visually happens:
(-) when i first upgraded to win 8, the photo app live tile did the same as described by OP - cycled through just a handful of pics from within my 1000s in the library (incidentally, these were ALL taken by a really old phone camera ages ago). i tried rectifying this by reinstalling the photo app (after having to reset windows update), but this has caused the following behaviours:

(a) if i try to open photos app, the ferriswheel background of the app opens and says 'add some pictures'. i click on this, and it goes to a black screen saying 'we couldn't find any photos in here' with no error codes, no suggestions, no buttons to click except 'back' to the ferriswheel.

(b) if i try to send a photo to photo app, the blue photo app background with white icon appear and remain until i drag off the app. sometimes the background remains for up to 15 or so seconds, then the picture flashes for a fraction of a second before the screen changes to the start screen.

How?.If your computer keeps on a boot loop process, What you can do is try to perform a Hard reset. ?Turn the computer off?Take out the charger and the battery?Press and hold the power button for 10-15 secs while the battery and charger is unplug? Then plug the charger back in and turn your computer on without the battery "Check if the boot loop will reoccur" Whether the boot loop reoccurs or not resetting the computer will be the best resolution cuz taking the virus manually will take sometime. Reset the computer via start menu ?Turn your computer back on and keep tapping ESC?Start menu will pop up, Click F11 to load up Recovery Manager?Click Troubleshoot then click RESET Note: Reset will take time 3-4 hours depending on how big the files you have on your computer.

I'm having BSOD troubles, if anyone will lend an ear or sees this and can help, I'm asking for suggestions/insights/critiques/analyses/etc.

I have a Toshiba L305D S5938 laptop, with AMD Turion X2/AMD chipset (please see my equipment profile). I purchased the unit brand new on March 28, 2009 from local retail outlet. Factory image was Vista'd (product key came w/it but no restore CDs).

I completely wiped Vista for a fresh install of Ubuntu after using Vista for 1 week; 64 bit Ubuntu running on it since then until about 1 week ago when I re-formated HDD again and re-imaged w/fresh copy of Windows 7 64 bit so I could use some non open-source software. New image is not dual-boot. Fresh partitn. gave 30gb to windows/boot sector and the rest of 320gb free, both formatted. (windows only recognizes a portion of the total drive space of course).

Hi all,

I have got a tv linked up to a laptop and i am wanting it to display a google spreadsheet for a few mins then cycle a few other notices then start again at the google spreadsheet.

I thought about setting it all up as separate html files and having it auto forward after x seconds but would not know how to get the google doc to auto forward. also thought about having the screen saver kick in after a min with the messages saved as images and the screensaver showing those images before an auto clicker turns the screensaver off but this limits me to still images.

The google spreadsheet keeps getting changed and updated through out the day

does anybody have any other ideas that would work better? I am wanting to keep it simple as much as i can.

Any ideas to help me? HP told me that it died that soon because I kept it charging when I wasnt using it, and that I didnt let it cycle enough. Ive heard from someone that they have a program that does it... just thought Id ask here. -Dennis

A:Laptop battery cycling

There are lots of articles on the Internet about how to make your battery last longer. I suppose you have a Li-Ion battery (all modern laptops have this kind of battery).
The best way to make a battery last longer is to let it charge to 100% before you use it, and also discharge all the way whenever possible. At least once a week. Don't use half the battery, and plug in the charger again, unless it's really necessary.
I don't use my battery much, so when I come home with, say, 50% battery I take it out, connect the power-plug and keep working. When I need the battery again I turn off the computer, connects the battery and off I go.
That way I don't have to worry if the battery is charging too much.

Hi all.

Sometimes if I have a web page loaded into a Firefox tab, and if that webpage contains a video, the little activity thingy on the tab never stop cycling.

I guess this is something to do with the way streaming video works.

But what I'd like to know, is this an indication of constant Internet activity?

I might not want to watch the video straight away so I'll leave the tab loaded. Am I thus experiencing bandwidth usage all the time that the activity doover is running around in its little circle?

- Rosie

A:Activity indicator keeps cycling on Firefox tabs

It usually means that Firefox is having trouble loading a small part of the web page (possibly an advert or image). Hit the Esc key on your keyboard to stop the activity thing on the tab. It shouldn't affect the streaming video or unnecessarily increase the site's bandwidth usage.

A failing hard drive could definitely cause that. I suggest you remove the failing drive and boot with the other. If you have a striped array (as opposed to a mirror), backup all the data to another drive, and do a clean install onto the good drive.

A:Toshiba Laptop cycling startup page-

It sounds like you're in the BIOS settings.
Try to boot unto Recovery -
First restart your Toshiba laptop. Press either "F1," "0," or "F8" to be taken to your computer's hard drive utility screen. The key command differs depending on the model Toshiba computer that you own. Select "Restore Original Factory Image" from the list of options in System Recovery
I recommend that you take the system back and demand a new one.

Hello, I have done some searching already, but BSOD's are pretty general and I couldn't find what my problem could be. I'm using a pretty new Asus ROG G750JS laptop bought from Costco last September. I haven't had any viruses or any notable problems. I am studying Software Engineering and want to use Max for a project. I downloaded the demo and opened it fine, starting on the tutorials. However, the next time I tried opening Max, my computer got a BSOD while Max was starting up. I wasn't sure what the problem was until I tried opening Max multiple other times. Every time since, my computer crashed. The error is a System Service Exception in relation to win32k.sys. I did update my Nvidia graphics card around the time of the crashes. I also tried uninstalling Max and reinstalling through the installer I still had saved in my downloads.

It only really happens on YouTube. My subscriptions, the main page, a few other pages. Usually not the video page.

Hello All!Last week I hit by some sort of virus while I was uploading photos to My background was replaced by a blue screen which contained a yellow middle section warning that stated my computer had been infected by a virus and should update/install new antivirus software. Somehow, I was able to get rid of this background, but ever since I have been afflicted with a "screensaver" of sorts, consisting of BSOD with various warnings that stay on screen about 20 seconds, and then the XP startup screen appears for about 10 seconds, before a new BSOD appears. This keeps cycling until I hit enter, and select user account and resume using my machine. Hello. Helping a friend with his 4yr old Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop. I3 M350 processor, 320gb, 4gb, windows 7 (not sure which one). She does NOT have repair or recovery disks. Was working just fine. didn't use it for a day or so. turned it on, and it keeps cycling, re-boot to dell splash screen, and so on. dell splash screen appears for about 1 second. F2 and F12 do work. have gone into setup, it sees hard drive, memory, all hardware. have loaded setup defaults to no avail. boot sequence is a little weird-has diskette 1st, then hard drive, even though there is no diskette drive -- this after restoring setup defaults. have re-seated the 1-gb memory chip. have gone into F12, and run dell diagnostics, went thru entire system, including entire hard drive, no errors. while in F12, changed boot sequence to 1st=hard drive, no change. Heard that sometimes usb ports might be a problem, so plugged flash drive into all 3 usb ports, one at a time, and re-booted. no change. She was using a usb wireless mouse, and a usb flash drive as a backup. Both were pulled to test. Tried without battery in unit, a/c only. tried w/o a/c, battery only. re-seated battery several times. tried taking battery out, then pressing power button for 30 seconds, no change. Any other things I can try before trying to re-seat hard drive (this laptop is a pain to get at the drive--hoping not to have to do that). Thanks.

Then I noticed a constant clicking like when exploring with IE except I wasn't using IE and no widows were open, and the wave volume would go back to zero after a few minutes. So, my y510p is having really anoying problem.  Sometimes computer works fine (really rarely) but usually it just doesnt start. I need to press powerbutton atleast 50 times until it finally start, and when it starts the screen is just blinking black and keys are blinking too, the problem becoming more general when it gets "cold" (Cold = normal indoor temperature 22 celsius) it also takes ages to get windows screen I have already visited warranty with my laptop and it was there 1.5 months, and they changed keyboard (why?!?!) and send it back, they said that they run some tests without any problems. Then i got my computer back, NOTHING CHANGED, same problems and all, what should i do?!  I have already soft-reseted, reseted bios and reseted whole system, nothing works!  Could you please be in touch with the store i bought it from, because I want my money back for not-working laptop worth 1200e in my country. They said that i need to send my computer back to warranty, for another 1.5 month journey (what is over what they promised, they said 10-15 workdays)  PLEASE HELP ME! anything but not another warranty trip! I also have very good video of the problem if you want me to send it to you.  My model is the one with 750M and 24gb ssd cache.

I installed Windows 10 last year and had to uninstall it due to wi-fi connectivity dropping.   Searching the internet, this seemed to be a frequent problem and Lenova did not support Windows 10 for the Y510P and did not provide drivers. I really liked windows 10 and would love to go back to it.    Is anyone running it, and how did you resolve the wi-fi connectivity issue?    I see on the Lenova Website they still don't list Windows 10 for this model.    Too bad.  Makes me really dislike Lenova products when they don't support OS upgrades.

Is it possible to overclock the GPU and CPU a lil' bit in my y510p ?? If yes, could you please tell me how much can i boost it up and if it's worth it though...?

Go to Solution.

A:Overclocking GPU and CPU in y510p

If you use the Intel Xtreme Tuning utility you can adjust the multipliers but that is all. The CPU already runs way to hot (and throttles as a result) so overclocking it will only make it worse. I did the opposite and undervolted mine so not only does it run cooler but it doesn't throttle anymore so it actually runs faster then a stock one.

I have a Lenovo Y510p. My warranty expired over a year ago, but my screen recently broke. I've tried to repair it myself, but it still won't display properly. Every time I call Lenovo I get a message to "schedule a callback," and every time I go to schedule a callback the web site tells me I'm out of warranty and won't allow me to schedule a callback. Is there a way I can schedule a repair through Lenovo?

Hey, I know there are already a few topics with the same subject, however none have the exact same situation as mine as most are US based. I too have a powerful Lenovo Y510P SLI with a Intel Centrino N2230 wifi card. I am buying a new router for my student room and since I want to buy things that can last for a few years, opted for a wifi AC router (probably an Asus one). But, this laptop won't support it... I looked in the technical maintaince manual to find which wifi cards are supported for the Y510P, there is one Wifi AC card for the Y410P, but according to various posts will also work in the Y510P as they share the same BIOS whitelist. I don't want to flash the BIOS with a custom modded one which removes the whitelist. (I flashed a desktop Asus motherboard to run OSX, went great, runs well, but I can't experiment with this laptop, need it for university.). So I Googled and Ebayed the partnumer and this one came up: Ebay Link, which says "Only for Lenovo/IBM laptops such as Y510P" should be fine right? Only thing is it is 40 USD, Dutch customs will charge 21% on top of it so that makes 48 USD, and the Dutch postal office will charge anywhere between 15-20 USD for paperwork for importing goods. So that makes an total of 68 USD... so that almost doubles the cost of the upgrade...  I used the FRU number for this card: WLAN, WiFi AC+BT4.0, Ltn BCM4352+20702 2x2AC+BT4.0 HMC which is 20200381, and put in the search engine in the "part number" ... I bought one of the first Lenovo IdeaPad y510p. Having a dual gpu made for a lot of gaming fun. Yesterday, the room filled up with the smell of an electrical burn. I checked the underside the Lenovo. It had been hotter. I heard workers outside my window and figured that the smell may come from them. A few minutes later very thick smoke came out of the left air vent and made a column in the air. I quickly pulled out the power cord and battery. Luckily, the house is still standing. I understand that electronics eventually fail. Yet, this seems unsafe and dangerous. What if I weren't in the room to act quickly? There should be some way to report this. The support page to send a message has been down with an under maintenance message for days.

So I have a Lenovo Y510P IdeaPad, I upgraded it to Windows 10 last December and wanted to downgrade it back to Windows 8/8.1 due to some issues that many said are due to the fact that the model doesn't really support Windows 10 thus I experience the problems. However, since it has been more than a month from the upgrade, I can't just roll it back to previous OS and am wondering if there is any way I can find out what my original product key for the pre-activated Windows 8 so I can perform a clean reinstall with it.

If windows came pre-installed on your laptop, the key might be on its certificate of authenticity. Alternatively, you can obtain the key using third party softwares like ProduKey. It'll display the currently activated key on your system.
