@alwend Hi,Perform a Hard Reset:1. Disconnect all peripheral devices and remove all USB devices and media cards.2. Disconnect the AC power adapter, remove the battery, and then press and hold the power button for at least 1 minute.3. Reconnect the AC power adapter (do not connect the battery), press the Power button and check is your problem solved or not.

I am curious as to why the volume control is muted on boot. The system sound is set to "No sound". The tech info about my desktop is in my signature.

If you have your sound set to no sound then of course their will be no sound at boot.
At least that is my understanding.

Hello All,Am facing issue with the WAVE volume control . It gets muted automatically and have to manually again raise its volume bar. This I guess is related to the Advertisment pop up's which comes up and I can hear the music of the advertisement. Sometimes 2 AD's are played simultaneously. The strange thing is even when am not using internet explorer, I can find iexplorer.exe being displayed in Task Manager. I am not sure what kind of virus is this. I tried running Bit Defender Anit Virus, but before the scan completes and results are shown, my Dell Inspirion 1525 , shuts down due to over heating(I guess).I ran a Hijack This , so that I can find the problem. Attached for your inputs.

A:Wave volume control getting mute and Ad's popping up

Just an update to my problem. I learned that I was infected by iexplore.exe virus. I tried various tools like1)Hijack This2)Malware Bytes3)Prevx4)Trojan Removerbut none worked for me. finally I tried "Combofix" and seems like it has fixed the issue. I need to monitor my machine for couple of more days to be sure if there is no other problem. The wave control is normal now and I don't hear random advertisment music.Strange thing is after combofix finished , it created a folder on C:/Combofix and inside that folder, it created some exe's and PREVX is claiming it to be a virus threat. Not sure how a virus removal tool can create exe's which are identified as virus themselves. Please suggest, if I can delete the combo fix folder.???Thanks in advance.!!

Hi,

I am running windows XP on a Dell Inspiron Mini and have internet explorer popups coming up in the background. Sometimes there are ads with audio messages. Sometimes the sound mutes (wave volume mutes). I tried reinstalling the operating system, which did not work multiple times, until it finally succeeded (I am not sure why it finally succeeded). Even after this reinstallation (which seemed to delete most files from the hard drive) the popups and other antics continued. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Norton Antivirus aren't detecting anything. I ran DDS and GMER as per instructions prior to posting. GMER generated a message after completing scan that said rootkit detected. I clicked OK and haven't done anything with regards to that message. I have included all the log files requested. Thank you for your help!

when i restart my computer the sound icon on the taskbar is missing, yet when i go to the control panel and select the sound it is checked. it says place volume icon in the taskbar. If I uncheck it and then click apply and check it again and click apply it comes back. I am not hiding any icons on the taskbar. This is a new computer only a few weeks old.

Hi, I have a pair of old Yamaha speakers and an SB Live Value sound card and I'm running XP. The speakers have a volume control and a headphone jack on them. Up until recently they were working fine but then my children were playing around on the PC and now neither the volume control on the speaker nor the headphone jack works (if I plug in the headphones the sound continues to be played through the speakers).

I've searched through the archives but haven't spotted anyone who has had a similar problem and since I've been banging my head against the wall for a couple of weeks I'd really appreciate some help.

A:Speaker volume control not working

If I read your post correctly, you are still getting sound from the speakers, right? It kind of sounds like the speaker controls and the headphone jack have been damaged somehow. Do you have another set of speakers you can test with or another PC to try these speakers on?

Hi everyone,

I just got a new monitor with speakers on it and I hooked it up to my video card with a HDMI cable. I don't want to use the monitor's speakers because they don't get very loud but for some reason the volume control knob on my external speakers hasn't worked since I plugged the monitor in.

I've gone into the playback devices and set my speakers to be the default device but I can crank knob all the way from 0 to max on my speakers and the sound remains at a constant level (which is very low as well). I've also tried disabling all of the Nvidia high def audio devices but that hasn't helped anything either. I'd greatly appreciate some advice with this!

The volume control on the center speaker has little effect recently. I know it's not needed but it sure is convienent. Tjis occurred on both windoze 7 and 10. I believe the driver is integrated. Any ideas? The windoze 10 computer is a dell and has the 3 sound jacks for the speakers.

I have been searching different forums where the speaker icon has disappeared from the notification area of the task bar, but have not found a solution to the particular problem I am experiencing. In my case the speaker icon is still visible but when I click on it, I no longer get the vertical bar which allows me to adjust the volume. I have made no recent changes to my computer and cannot understand why this has suddenly happened. I have gone to taskbar properties and tried turning the volume icon on and off but this has not cured the problem.

I have discovered the problem I am experiencing is limited to my user account only. I have one other named account and a guest account. The other user is able to adjust the volume from the speaker icon on the notification bar, and when I log into the guest account I find it is also working perfectly. However, when I log into my user acount it does not work. I have also tried adjusting the volume by going into Control Panel - Hardware and Sound - Sound - Adjust system volume but when I click on it nothing happens. However, when I go into the guest account I find I can adjust the volume from both the icon on the notification bar and by going through the Control Panel method.

I therefore suspect that my user account may have been corrupted in some way. I should stress that my problem is limited to my inability to adjust the volume in my user account. I do have sound, I just am unable to control it!

A:Cannot adjust volume from speaker icon or from Control Panel

The problem is obviously corruption of the user account. Try an sfc and maybe it will be corrected

My speaker setup seems to make windows think that all my speakers are 'left'. I dont mind that it does, but the problem is that i will be missing out on all the action coming out of the sopposed 'right' speaker.

The Volume balance control sliders that you can access from Sound > Speaker Properties > Levels > Balance only control the volumes that each individual speaker has.

Is there a slider, windows function or program that can shift both the output from the left and right speakers, to the left speaker, so that nothing will be missed .

Many thanks,
SuperStinger

More system specs are needed. e.g. what is the PC/Model Number or if a custom the motherboard. Also what sound do you have? such as RealTek, Conexant, SoundBlaster, etc.

Hey there,

I've tried all the normal things - online troubleshooting through Dell and Windows (running 64 bit Win 7 Home Premium), plus updating drivers, uninstall/reinstall device, checking through media software settings (VLC, iTunes) - and cannot seem to figure out why my LEFT speaker is playing at what sounds like 10-20%, versus the RIGHT one playing at 100%. No major update or change predated this issue. Simple Windows Update stuff, but I purposely don't let Windows touch my "manufacter" drivers etc.

Anyone with a clue as to what else I can try?

THANKS!

Yesterday I reinstalled Windows 7 on my notebook PC. I had to use a Microsoft installation disk because unfortunately, serious errors resulted after I installed from the HP recovery program. Consequently the HP drivers that were installed automatically with the recovery program weren't installed on my system. I had to install several of them from the HP support site. I got everything to work except for the Touch volume control, or the Volume Scroll Zone as referred to by HP in the service guide. This is the device located just above the keyboard that increases or decreases speaker volume when you drag you finger on it. I installed the Quick Launch button driver but that only applied to the mouse and pointer touchpad. I looked at the devices listed in my startup configuration. I saw the synaptics pointing device and the HP quick launch buttons listed. So is the IDT PC audio driver.  What am I missing? Where I can I find it to activate the touch volume control?

I am running Windows 10 Professional with current up-to-date updates on my Dell Inspiron Laptop.

Several days ago I noticed that plugging in current headset no longer muted the internal speaker. I know that it is not the headset as it works perfectly on another computer.

A:External Speaker Fails to Mute Internal Speaker

What audio codec does your laptop use?

It will be listed in device manager. The VEN DEV combo will be enough information.

You'll find it in the device properties details tab, specifically, the "Hardware IDs" section.

It will resemble this:

Code:
HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0288&SUBSYS_10EC0191&REV_1000
Usually the audio codec chip itself will detect an external speaker is plugged in. Have you checked your audio device's configuration software? It should have a shortcut in the classic control panel.

Hi, Some things to check for? You will first want to ensure that this ?echo? effect is not being caused by a third party application. The easiest method would be to test the default Windows sounds, then try configuring the speakers, and if the issue persist to try Safe Mode - to eliminate third party software or services as the cause. Use the default Windows Sounds 1.     Click Start, click Control Panel, click Hardware and Sound, and then click Sound.2.     In the Sound window click on the Sounds (tab).3.     You will see a box with a list of items one being Asterisk.4.     Click on Asterisk, or any item in that box, and then click Test.5.     You should hear audio coming from your system.6.     If the clip was not long enough select another item, and then click Test.7.     Determine whether or not the distorted audio is present. Configure the speakers 1.     Click Start, click Control Panel, click Hardware and Sound, and then click Sound.2.     In the Sound window right-click your Speakers and select Configure Speakers.3.     Follow the on-screen setup, and Test the available configurations.4.     Indentify whether or not one configuration appears to have less of an ?echo? than others.5.     If the ... THE QUESTION:
- How do I mute the laptop speakers while still getting sound out of my headphones? So even if I pull my headphones out, still no sound comes out of the speakers.

- As a laptop user, you know that most of the time we work in quite areas such as libraries or night flights. When you accidently pull the headphones jack out, your music blasts causing a lot of unnecessary disturbance.

TECHNICAL DETAILS:
Dell Inspiron 5150, Windows XP, SigmaTel Audio C-Major.

IS IT POSSIBLE:
- YES. It was for the past 3 years until a few days a go. I say this because I used to achieve this by checking the 1 PC spk Mute checkbox under ADVANCED in the Volume Control panel. I recently had to reinstall the SigmaTel driver and now when I check the 1 PC spk Mute checkbox, It mutes EVERYTHING including the headphones.

WHAT I'VE TRIED:
- Rolling back SigmaTel driver: not possible since the original was uninstalled.
- Installing the SigmaTel driver from the dell website
- Installing the SigmaTel driver from the drivers CD
- Searching the net. Most results suggested checking the PC spk Mute checkbox, but as mentioned earlier, now it mutes my headphones as well.
Any suggestions are welcome and very much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi. I have HP 15 laptop. The issue I'm having happened in windows 8.1 and now windows 10 same laptop.

I have a new Harmon Kardon soundsticks 3 2.1 computer speaker set. This is connected into the headphone jack.
The speakers work great, sound excellent.

They have a mute function where when you touch both capacitive buttons, the sound is muted.
However this mute function doesn't work when I have the laptop connected to the wall outlet. When i unplug the laptop and the laptop goes into battery mode, it works perfect.

I tested the soundsticks with an ipod, a netbook and another exact same laptop plugged in (same plug).
They work flawlessly.

I can't figure out why this is happening. I've duped the settings as much as possible with the other same exact laptop and it still does not work.

I've tried uninstalling the realtek driver and reinstalling, doesn't help.
I've copied the power settings from the well working laptop, doesn't help.

It does seem to be related to power somehow.

Is there a driver that deals with power I could uninstall and reinstall?

Laptop works perfectly otherwise.

Thanks.

My desktop is connected to a cable modem, and every time there is any loading/activity with my cable modem, there is a ticking sound coming through my speakers.

I am running Windows 7, and I know that you can disable the modem speaker sound with dial-up modems by selecting the dial-up modem's properties and disabling its sound. But I don't know if this can be done with cable modems.

This ticking sound can only be muted if I shut off my speakers, but I don't want to do that as it would kill all sound. Please help.

A:How to turn off/disable/mute cable modem speaker sound?

That sounds more like "RFI" interference from the modem getting directly into the speakers. Are you connected wired or wireless? There has also been cases of the wireless causing the noise in systems.

I find System Sounds does not stay at 0 volume or muted, with one exception: when volume mixer is open.

When I close the volume mixer and open a program that requires UAC, the chime is at "full" volume of selected device's volume setting.

As examples, Piriform's CCleaner and Revo's Uninstaller chime and reset the volume to "full" while Auslogics' Disk Defrag does not reset the volume but nevertheless chimes.

Is this a lost cause?

Hey so I have (what I think) is a basic question.

I listen to the radio on my work computer.
What I am trying to do is have it so the volume is on mute all the time, but when I plug in my headphones it un-mutes. Then if the cord comes out by accident it goes to mute without playing any sound.

I hope this makes sense and that someone can help.
It is a realtek audio, and I am using the front audio port (if that matters).

As in another fellow member, i have the same problem. This is my first post, which is of course about some suspected malware. I'm not so sure how it started but I'm having the same problem as a few people on this forum. Probably some sketchy website I visited, they say curiosity killed the cat but it also messed up the computer. The sound just randomly shut off. When I started looking at what was the problem I noticed that on the volume control panel the wave volume was muted. I fixed the volume but after a few minutes it will mute itself again. A:Spontaneous Wave Volume Mute with IE popups

3 more replies

Hi,This is my first post, which is of course about some suspected malware. Another odd thing was that although I usually use Firefox, I keep getting IE pop-ups showing an HTTP 404 page. When I looked at Task Manager it shows iexplorer.exe running. If I try to end the process, it will restart in about 10-30 seconds. Oh, and it's being run by SYSTEM instead of Owner like normal IE. Thanks,PeachyMei

I've got a cordless logitech iTouch keyboard. When I hit the button button on the keyboard, it mutes the "master volume". However WAV volume seems to overwrite the master volume. Meaning if I have an mp3 playing you can still hear it even though master volume is mute.

Strange I know, but it's true.

Sound card is onboard: Intel 82801BA/BAM AC' 97

I've got latest drivers from Logitech, but problem still occurs with different keyboard.

A:Muting master volume doesn't mute all?

Hi:

I have the same problem. WAV volume level is used instead of master volume. It does not matter if I use my laptops volume buttons or adjust the volume with the volume control in the Control Panel.

My sound is processed using an ALi Audio Accelerator.

If anyone can help with this it'd be super.

Croque.

ok so I've got myself a Inspiron 24 7459 which is a lovely computer. I've got no complaints. Just that how the <profane> am I supposed to turn down the volume or mute it completely when I'm using it? like when I'm using the computer you know it's easy stuff, but when I plug in my hdmi so that I can play my video game on my pc, it's loud as <profane>, you understand? So like I've found one way to fix it and it's to mute my computer entirely but, I've got music coming out of my Bluetooth speakers, I don't want to mute that too man. Btw just so we're clear right, this isn't a pc game I'm talking about, my pc has the option to switch to PC mode or hdmi, I'm playing the Wii u on this thing man.

Hey there. I was wondering if there is a way to create a shortcut to mute/unmute (or 2 shortcuts: one for each function) an specific application. For example, I am constantly muting/unmuting Firefox because I am listening to music most of the time, but when I need to listen to something I gotta open the mixer, click, blah blah. Maybe there's something I can add to the line "C:\Windows\System32\SndVol.exe" or something like that.

Google yields lots of possibilities: shortcut to mute sound

One of them should do what you want.

Volume and Mute buttons do not work with Windows 7
I did a clean install of Windows 7 on my Hp DV9823CL. The quickplay and dvd buttons work, but the volume and mute buttons do not. This is what I sent HP:

problem description : I did a clean install of Windows 7. Prior to the clean install all quickplay buttons worked fine. Now the quickplay and the dvd buttons work, but the volume and mute buttons do not work.
troubleshooting : I reinstalled quickplay, as well as the quick play buton drivers that are listed. I also did a troubleshoot that worked once when I removed the battery and put it back in. This also does not fix the problem.

This is what their repsonse was:

Thank you for contacting HP Total Care.
Scott, as I was checking your notebook?s specification I found that your notebook was shipped with Windows Vista. Your notebook is not upgradable to windows 7 as there is no driver available your notebook?s driver page. Your notebook is design to perform its best in Windows Vista. So I request you to get back to the original operating system.
If you need further assistance, please reply to this message and we will be happy to assist you further.

Try the Vista Drivers
Many hardware drivers for Vista will work for Windows 7.

I think HP uses a program to monitor the "extra" buttons like volume, play, mute, etc. Try the Vista version of that program for your laptop.

Also, look at the specs for a later version of your laptop that HP is selling with Windows 7, see if a newer version of that program is available for the newer PC and try it.

I used the drivers for newer model Dell Inspirons when I upgraded my 6000 to Vista, some worked, some did not. you may have to try several versions to get one that works ri... Read more

I have a HP Pavilion dv6358se. I cannot turn mute off. I followed the instructions to correct this on the HP Help forums site. They said to update the Bios. The Bios in my PC is dated 2007, the current Bios is dated 2010. I followed their procedure to install that Bios update which was SP48121.exe.

A Phoenix Secure WinFlash window opens, I click "Flash BIOS, and I get a Phoenix Secure WinFlash error message saying, "The Input File 'BIOS.WPH' can not be found. A valid file name must be specified to continue."

Unfortunately HP Help forum did not have anything on this.

This is problem that just one day came into being on my laptop running Windows 7. I can't associate it with any particular update since I don't play videos or sound files frequently.

Here's what happens. Let's say I got to YouTube and play a video. The sound will work for about 30 seconds to a minute. Then it will suddenly stop. The video still plays. If I toggle mute (press it twice) or press the volume up or down, the sound comes back but it doesn't last as long. To listen to something, I have to stand ready at the volume (one click up or down) or mute (two clicks) button to press it any time the sound goes away. The same thing happens if I play an mp3 on the music player. So it's not browser plugin related. It seems either sound driver related, or even a HW issue perhaps.

I just upgraded to Windows 10, using a completely different browser and the problem is still there.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

Thanks

I nee to dissasemble Dell speaker model A215, there is a problem with the broken wire, which needs to be fixed.

A:How to dissasemble Dell speaker model no. A215

A lot of these "smaller" speakers are likely a snap closure assembly. The front/back snap together?; rather than use screws? Have you had a look under the base/stand itself to see if there any screw visible there? If there are... then - ensuring you use the "correct" screwdriver head ' - you may be able to remove them and possibly the case will start to part?, or at least allow you to gently prise the front/back apart? Do NOT force anything - and if using any kind of "prying too" ideally use a plastic one.. Less likely to damage the case? But if one hasn't seen one of these speakers in real life? it's not easy to advise more than in general?I trawled briefly with google for a service manual - no joy; likewise any how to disassemble info - again no joy? They are Altec Lansing (as are many of Dell speakers - rebadged to Dell). Possibly they (Altect) can help you if you contact them?

Hello :)
I hope I put this in the right area..

I've been searching for a solution to this volume problem for a while now, but to no avail. I've found others with a similar problem, but no solution. So here's the deal: I just got a new motherboard, and ever since I got it my volume control has been faulty. First of all, all sounds are very quiet, even when all volume sliders are set to maximum. Next the main volme control has no effect whatsoever on the volume of the computer. I can can slide it all the way to the top, or all the way to the bottom, nothing changes. The only thing that makes any difference is the Wave control and it barely does anything. Also, when I put "Mute all"...it doesn't mute. However when I put mute for Wave control, no sound comes out.
All this is incredibly annoying because I often listen to music on my computer, but now I basically can't hear it. To note: I don't have a volume control on my keyboard, or on my speakers, and I know nothing is wrong with the speakers.

If anyone could help, I would really, really appreciate it. Thanks :)

I got my laptop just a few weeks ago, and it came with Windows 10.  Soon afterwards the touch screen started not working, very similar to the posts about the USB device being powered down to save battery (you can find those posts, from Dec 2013 else on this site).
However, I'm on Windows10, with the recent large November public update applied.  In device manager there is no 'USB Input Device' listed under Human Interface Devices.
Further: the System's Settings->About panel the OS is reporting under "Pen and Touch" that "No pen or touch input is available for this display".
So, beyond USB power settings, it seems like I'm completely missing the device driver for the touch screen.
I have applied every driver, bios & firmware update that I can find on the Dell support site.  Nothing fixed things.
Any hints?  Am I looking for a display driver or an input driver or something else?
Thanks!
Dave.

A:Dell XPS 15 (Model 9550) touch screen no longer working.

Same problem here, plus I see an “Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)” in my device manager constantly appearing and disappearing. Also the touch does not work in the Diagnostic application you can enter via the bios. I don’t know if it should work there, on the 9530 Model it did…
I have the device now for about a week and I think Dell should again be deeply ashamed of what they deliver to their loyal customers.
With the 9530 model they refused to repair the coil whine problem a lot of people complained about. This was really annoying but at least I could work with the device.
The 9550 model has not two issues which really prevent me from doing my work.
As soon as you activate hyper-v the screen starts flickering and the display driver starts crashing.
Touchscreen not working.
We are talking about really expensive hardware here and it’s extremely frustrating when you experience more troubles with a 2.500$Notebook than you do with 500$ hardware.
And on top of it all they told me today that they could not replace my display because Dell has no replacement parts on stock and they don’t know when they will get them. And that’s exactly what you get when you pay for “Next-Business-Day” “Pro” support.
If the device does not work at the end of the week I will send it back.

Short Story
Wave meter in volume control keeps stopping. I googled it, seems to be a virus. Performed a virus scan, came up with nothing. Did it with another anti-virus program, also showed nothing. Need help. Thanks.

Long Story
So basically, I wanted to watch a youtube video. When I played it, there was no sound. Thinking it was a simple volume problem, I checked the video volume, the small icon on the taskbar, and even went into the control panel to adjust the volume settings. I thought it might be my headphones, but I tried using the speakers and neither worked. I tried doing the voice playback, and then I could hear my voice. I thought maybe it was fixed. Played the video, no sound. At that point I thought it was my sound card. I didn't want to replace it, so I kept trying to look for a better solution. After much frustration, I managed to make my way into the volume control. Start - Control Panel - Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices - Adjust the System Volume - Audio - Sound Playback: Default Device: SoundMAX Digital Audio - Volume - Wave. I saw that the Wave option was all the way down, and moved it up. After moving it, I could hear the video crystal clear, so I closed all the windows I didn't need anymore. Well, after about 30 seconds, the volume shut off again. I went back into volume control, and the wave bar was all the way down again. I raised it, and closed the window. I was looking for the apply button to become available, for I had assumed that not app... Read more

Hello, Ten Forums!

I was wondering whether it were possible to open the volume mixer instead of the volume control when left-clicking on the volume icon in the tray. At the moment I have it set to open the old classic menu, but not the volume mixer.

So, is it possible?

Thanks.

All i see is right clicking to do this. What do you mean by classic menu ?

Hi

Thanks

A:Help with volume control-very quiet, main control unnefective

Do you have any other soundcard-like devices like a USB headset?
Do you have the latest drivers for your soundcard installed? Please check the motherboard maker's website.
Did you get some special program with the motherboard drivers that would give you more control over sound than the Windows standard volume utility?

I'm running windows XP on an old Dell Inspiron 1501 and I'm trying to get my microphone to play directly through my speakers so I can record them both simultaneously. The only answer I've been finding is to tick the 'microphone' checkbox in the volume control playback properties panel, but I don't have a microphone checkbox. There should be a 'microphone' box under SW Synth and CD player but I don't get one apparently.I've downloaded the latest SigmaTel Audio drivers from Dell and despite not having a problem with them before this, I'm inclined to believe that they're the problem. Any ideas?

A:No microphone control in playback Volume Control panel

Okay well of course I find an answer right after posting the topic:
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/t/19295458.aspx
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/p/18112824/18235810.aspx#18235810

Those two pages detail how to get an Input Monitor checkbox which functions just like the microphone one I wanted (although you can only mute it, not alter the volume). I used Instructional Set 3 from the second page, having to add the 'RecMonitorMute' entry as detailed in the first page and I can now hear my microphone input directly through my speakers.

HOWEVER, I'm still unable to record both the microphone and speaker sound at the same time. I thought recording the 'Stereo Mix' channel with the microphone coming through the speakers would work but it isn't and I don't know why. Any ideas?

Hi everyone,

I have only recently upgraded to Vista from XP, I'm very pleased with everything apart from this sound problem, which from what I've read is very common. I was hoping to watch movies on my new widescreen monitor, but the sound is just not loud enough with all settings on max.

The problem I'm having is that my speaker volume is very low, I'm using fairly old speakers, but these speakers were very loud on my old computer running XP.

Anyway I've installed the latest Realtek driver & it has made no difference what so ever. Every setting is set to max volume, does anyone know how I can boost the volume? Or maybe someone else has had this problem & found a solution, I'm wondering if new speakers will make any difference?

The only sure-fire solution I think of so far is installing XP, which would mean losing Vista, as I've not got a disc with it on, the computer came with it loaded already.

A:Speaker volume is very low

hey there. recently my sound was working fine until i installed this sigmatel driver update from gateway's web site. after installing that it made my sound icon get the damn red x icon and it didnt work. i then read on here about the realtek and tried that but nothing. it seems though that i have to now do the setup again for the original sigmatel driver under the cabs folder (64 bit system) and then it goes back to green and the sound works. i don't restart it though i just click no on that. i don't know if that will help depending on your system i suppose.

Hello everyone,
I have recently noticed that my speaker volume is going up and down by itself. It happens when i'm listening to music, playing games, everything. I have a kt3 ultra mobo, with onboard Avance AC'97 audio 5.1 surround sound speakers. I've played around with my audio options when i noticed the problem and can't figure out what is going on. Please give me some advice.

Thanks

A:Speaker volume goes up and down

Any batteries involved in your audio loop? Replace.

Any volume controls on your keyboard? Try disabling keyboard audio control.

Any Windows utilities running that control audio? Running in the System Tray, and check Task Manager. Close any extra audio-related apps.

Otherwise, it could just be your speakers, or sound card amp, going out.

Ok, dig, I am a Mac guy and I had to get a Windows laptop for work. So please understand I don't know anything.

First easy question : I have a Braven Balance B/T speaker, when I connected it (Which took like 15 minutes ??) it gets labeled as a headset. It's a speaker!

Then the volume is very low, I can turn up Pandora, the main system volume and I still believe it's low. Also, I do not have the Properties > Levels > Enhancements like I have read about. Under Levels I get Balance, that's it.

Can someone who is patient help me thru this starting point and maybe we can go further. I can provide screen shots of anything necessary.

Thanks so much.

I just put together my gf's new Compaq computer. She has an AMD chip and is running XP Home. Realtec AC97 on board sound. Polk Audio speakers with no volume adjust on the speaker, controlled by computer. Problem is the sound will only go up so far, which isn't very loud at all. Speakers worked fine on her previous computer. They are configured correctly. Any clue as to why this would occur? Thank you for any insight.

My brandnew ASUS laptop, using Windows 7, is supposed to have really good speakers. The volume icon is a circle; at full blast, the icon only covers 25% of the circle. The volume just isn't what I would have expected. Any suggestions? Thank you.

A:speaker volume

I'm not sure what measures you've taken in trying to natively adjust the sound (like in this video: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Adjust-the-sound-level-on-your-computer). I find that more times than not, you can usually right click the sound icon and select "open sound mixer" and adjust the sound to your liking from there.

I have a computer running some crappy speakers, and for some reason I can barely hear anything from them. I read other posts that talked about not having amplified speakers, and that I should just get amplified ones and be done with it. The only thing that gives me pause is that when I shut down for the night, and you get the windows "shut down" sound, it is really loud. So I tried them on another new computer of mine, and they worked fine. I have obviously checked all the volume settings and they are all on and turned up all the way. Any ideas why this might be happening.

A:Speaker Volume is really low

Hi CluFunkBunk, and welcome to TSG.

If you go into the "Sounds and Audio Devices" control panel and then select the Sounds tab can you play some of the other system sounds at a fairly loud level?

If so, exactly when do you get lower volume levels? Does this happen with certain programs?

Can you give us the details of what you have checked so far? We have no way of know what you mean by, "all".

Some details about the sound controller hardware being used as well as what operating system you are running may help us to help you. Do you have a separate sound card or is sound built-into the motherboard?

Good morning

I am having problems with my computer & speaker volume. It started since family members plugged I-pods in to listen. I have checked all areas on my computer (that I'm aware of) to make sure that all volume is turned up. My actual computer volume is very low also. I have not tried to plug different speakers in though
