My duaghter cracked the digitizer glass on her laptop, but it still works fine after disabling the touchscreen. I know I can buy another digitizer glass and replace it, but if the lcd itself is still functional can you just remove the cracked glass and use it as a non-touchscreen laptop?

I bought my computer 5 months ago. Got a first issue with the headphone not working. i brought it back and they replace it with a new one. This is in between there 30 days return and replace policy. since then no problem beside the sound on this computer is poor. but i am always working with headphone or bluetooth. The other day i open my computer on the morning and find a little scratch. How can you scratch your computer when you just open it. 5 min after the scratch became a crack and got the bottom left of my computer to the middle top . Then decide to reach HP support to send my computer to repair. Thinking that it is under the warranty. But not !! No warranty for screen damage. This is a defect problem, that HP should cover or recal the computer. They shouldn't leave there customer unhappy with their product and their customer service handling situation. Beside they will charge me 300$ for repair. This is not fair that some people with the same problem get covered and other not. This is the last time i buy HP product. Use to love them not anymore. A big company like HP prefer to have people pist of than to take care of them.

Hello.  I bought an Hp Spectre x360 13-4101dx On Friday, October 10th, 2015. Today i closed the laptop as anyone normaly would, and opened it a few minutes later to find the screen cracked. The laptop was not closed with any force, and upon furth research this seems to be a problem many others are having with this device. This is a virtually brand new product and the damage is not due to handling fault.  I am also an employee at Best Buy and have sold many of these laptops to customers because I thought they were a great product but now my faith in HP is in question.I have attached and image of the crack.I would really like this issue to be resolved.Thank you,Brennan Guernsey.

Bought this laptop 4 weeks ago and thought by paying out for a better "quality" one that it would go the distance. Used it on Saturday evening, closed the lid and left on my desk. Came down in the morning and when I opened it the screen had cracks in it - no force had been used and nothing had dropped on it - everyone else was in bed apart from me. From looking on the reviews here and speaking to my IT delaer, there is an obvious design flaw with the screen that needs some investigation from HP - there are literally hundreds of customers that have had this same problem - can someone help on this please - I am very unhappy after paying out 900 on this to break after only a month !!!!Many Thanks inadvanceDean Johnson

Hello All,

I saw the massive post (over 14 pages long) on the issue with the cracked Spectre x360 screens.  I purchased my Spectre approximately 2 months ago and I noticed the screen is starting to crack.  The crack is just to the right of the middle at the top.  The crack started at the small hole to the right of the camera and has spread to the very top and now down my screen.  It is clearly not the LCD because the touch screen still works and no pixels are messed up.  This appears to be the outer screen.  Has anyone been able to get HP to recognize the flaw?  I love the laptop but am not impressed that the screen has already cracked.  I am very careful with my devices and this is used only for my company.  I am hoping someone on this board can help me with getting the glass replaced.

Thank you,

Hi, My loan machine is a 15" Spectre x360 with 4K screen. My friend's machine is a 13" Spectre x360 with 2560x1440 screen. Those machines are thin therefore we won't put them to a backpack and give them in well protected computer bags. I believe the glass itself on any FLAT and well protrected situation won't break. Hope this helps.

Hello. I recently discovered several cracks in my HP Notebook-screen. As this particular HP Notebook is a touchscreen, these cracks are quite annoying, because it is making my computer open all sorts of things (as it clearly thinks I am touching the screen when, in fact it is a result of some sort of blow sustained to the screen).I do not recall how these cracks were made, but I fear by receiving some sort of blow to the backside of the screen. I have taken the entire PC apart to see if there were any visible signs of damage to the display itself (other than the cracked glass in front of it), but no damage is to be seen. As I believe the damage is a result of a blow to the backside of the screen I do fear that the display panel itself has suffered damage, but not being able to see any damage I come to ask for help First of all: Is it possible that the display panel is damaged without me being able to see it? (The computer was completely turned off when I opened it up, so I was unable to check the display panel with the computer running).Second: Can I somehow check the display panel myself to see if it has suffered any damage?Third: As I need this computer quite badly I want to do the repair myself and would like to here whether I can buy an entire new screen (with glass AND display panel) as a spare part, and fit it myself - and if so where? The screen in question is a B133XW03 and the notebook is a HP 13-A100 x360  Thanks in advance fo... I've had the same problem as seen in 8 previous pages on this forum. My wife opened our 1 month old, $2000 hp spectre x360 laptop to find the screen had cracked. By the time we got the laptop to hp, the cracks had spread and some shards of glass fallen out near the origin of the crack at one hinge. Hp have deemed this as physical damage and quoted us $523 for repairs, on what without doubt was a defective screen. I can't even begin to express my anger and disappointment at both the quality of hp screens based on the 8 pages of similar issues, and the ridiculous quoted repair costs. I could buy a new laptop for less. With this level of customer service, I don't see hp maintaining their reputation of quality.

Another cracked screen. My daughters computer is 7 months old. She was flying back from holiday and the computer was in a padded computer case inside a backpack. On opening the computer after the flight there was a crack on the LHS of the screen which then spread diagonally right, across the screen. The computer was fine before the flight and was not dropped or mis-used. Waiting to hear back from customer service but not hopefull as the standard line is that it is the users fault. What happens if I have it repaired and it cracks again? Thanks HP, will be the last product bought from you.

We purchased the laptop march of 2016.  Last week we noticed a crack starting from just off center on top of the screen.  The laptop has never left our home and has never been dropped or abused.  We have 5 grown children and owned several laptops in the past,  so this is not our first rodeo.  The laptop performed well in all other areas so we were really disappointed that this happed.  I can only imagine from the multiple posts on here, that this is a common flaw among this series. Shame on me for not researching it enough.  Hp support would not cover the cost of repairs.  I went ahead and paid the $210 to repair the screen.  That amount will be nothing compared to the loss of future sale from our families and businesses.   HP used to be a reputable name.  Too bad

Good day,Just last night my laptop slipped off the bed when my dog jumped in and the touchscreen now is cracked and won't work. All other features, sound, keyboard, everything else seems to run fine but the screen is cracked and nothing is registering my touch.I still have my warranty on it as I checked online and would like to know what would be my next step. I currently live in the Bahamas and got this laptop as a gift and they brought it from the states. I would really hope that this is a quick fix. Not sure who to go to down here so thanks in advance for the assistance Regards

A:HP Pavilion x360, cracked screen, still have warranty

Eventhough the product is in warranty, this is an induced damage and is not covered as a part of warranty. you can contact the local HP technical support there who will support you their best on a charge basis. The charges would be applicable in US too unless you have an accidental damage protection plan.

I recently bought  in May, Hp's relatively new Spectre x360 Convertable Laptop 15.6" screen. I paid a whopping $2000 plus tax for it.I use it everyday between work and home. Just couple weeks ago, I opened the screen to see a long crack across it! I am in no way rough or damaging to the device. I am always very careful with it.To begin with, I only own 1 latop and having to send this one away for over 2 weeks, is causing me prblems with work.As my device was still under warranty, I called HP to have it fixed thinking it would be no problem . Halfway through, they called me saying it is going to cost $500 to have the screen replaced!  ABSOLUTELY rediculous. I mean, I already  paid 2 grand for this and your telling me you won't fix my screen unless I fork over another $500?! The customer service was terrible as the woman on the other line was unsympathetic and rude and continued to repeat the same mumbo jumbo about how they can't do anything about it.As of right now, theyre sending my laptop back - unrepaired. This means, I will be without a laptop for nother week or two until I can find someone else to fix it for a more reasonable price. Needless to say, HP should be fixing screens for free ESPECIALLY since I am NOT the only person to have a screen crack for no reason. I have seen so many threads in regards to the same issue yet HP does nothing to help. Regrdless, I will never be buying an HP laptop again - service is horrible and no dedicati... Read more

I bought the Envy 15.6  at SGD1,599 in July 2016. The machine started to shut down on its on the 28th Sep. I thought it is some microsoft updating. Have to switch the system on a few times in a day. On the 30th of Sep, the screen cracked spider web style. The laptop was not moved at all from the previous day. Called HP Singapore for help and they said the screen is not covered under warranty. I continue to use it with the cracked screen by projecting it to an external  monitor as i need to finish my work and could not afford any downtime. Sent the machine for diagnosis on the 13Oct and they quoted SGD$321 for repair. I felt in duress because i needed the machine. There is no stress test done on screen panel or whatsoever test and i really felt taken advantage of by their customer-induced claims. In a way, HP or their servicing centre made me feel that I lied. And reading the forums here on cracked screen, HP stands firmly it is never their fault. This is abysmal attitude towards genuine customers. And my laptop is less than 3 months under warranty. Helpless in Singapore.

A:Cracked Screen - Envy 15

The screen can be fixed for less than that...perhaps half if you are willing to install it yourself. HP does staunchly maintain that the screen does not crack without some external force being applied...indeed all laptop makers take this position or a laptop would cost half again as much because of the added warranty expense.

I have an HPEnvy x360. Yesterday I opened laptop to find screen cracked. Could not figure out how or why since the laptop stays in the same area and has never been dropped. Then I did a search and found it is a common problem in many HP laptops, and costs hundreds of dollars to fix.  Is HP doing anything to address this problem? My HP ENVY is still under warranty, but not sure screen is covered.  This laptop has been the WORST experience ever in all my years of using desktops, laptops. Before this happened, in the first 5months, I had to contact Support more than I did in 5 years of owning MAC and more than 10 years of owning other desktops.  That's just wrong. I want my money back.

I recently cracked my screen.  The crack was interfering with the touch screen so I disabled the touch screen.  I was able to use my laptop like a normal laptop.  Picture quality was fine, no missing pixels.  Everything was fine except for the cracked screen.  I took it to my local computer repair place to get an estimate on replacing the glass.  Now the screen won't work at all.  They said I need a new LCD screen and glass with digitizer to get my computer working again.  The parts alone, cost nearly as much as I paid for the laptop!  I purchased this laptop at Best Buy this past January so it is still a new computer!  It is still under the original warranty for 5 more months.  At this point, I don't know what to do.  Is the LCD screen covered under warranty?  I know the glass is not.  The computer repair place recommended just purchasing a whole new laptop.  What other kinds of options do I have?

Hello, I bought an HP Envy 15-J170us laptop which now has a cracked touch screen. I don't know how it got cracked, I put it in my padded PC backpack and set it in the back of my car, with nothing on top of it, and when I opened it up it had several cracks in the display radiating from one of the microphone holes (at least I assume it those are microphone holes) in the top of the glass. If this could be covered by my warranty it would be great, but if not, I need to know how I can get the touch screen replaced. Thanks, Mathew Pierce

If you purchased accidental damage protection plan, then this would be covered as a part of this plan. This is not covered as a part of standard warranty. You can go to Manuals section and download the Maintenance and Service Guide which has the part number and the procedure to replace the screen: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Home.jsp?prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=5354982

Bought a brand new Envy last Thursday, touchscreen did not work.  Called support and they remotely worked on it for a few hours ultimately having to restore to factory settings, still did not work.  Exchanged laptop at store yesterday and the touchscreen on this one does not work either.   Per the sales person at the store the touchscreen should work with computer in laptop or tablet mode, is this correct? Is there a known issue with these that I should choose another model?   Is there something that has to be enabled?  I have checked the drivers and all is newest version and enabled. Thanks for any help.

I've tried everything to make my computer screen flip when I put my computer into "tent" mode. I've gone into the settings and changed it so that it allows my computer screen to auto rotate and it never does. I've changed display settings and have made sure all updates are completed, and nothing seems to work. I have only had this computer for about a month and a half and I haven't used the computer as a "tent" much either. I've had it work before but suddently it stopped and I'm confused as to what I need to do to make it work again.

Not only does it not recognize when i fold my computer over but even when I manually go to press tablet mode i cannot press screen rotation. The screen rotation button in the action center is greyed out so I cannot press it at all. I have tried:Going through the control panel and selecting "Allow the screen to auto-rotate"It automatically unselects it after a while and still won't rotate for the short time that it shows it is allowing it. (yes I hit Apply and OK) Going through System Settings: The "Lock rotation of this display" is set to "on" and will not allow me to change it. Going through regedit and setting the screen rotation to "1" Updating and restarting the laptop. Including manually going through HP's website to update Intel's Virtual Button Driver and Graphics Driver. Please help me find a proper solution, I have had an HP before but this laptop is completely ruining my experience with them.

My ENVY m6-AQ003 x360 touch screen function clicks itself. It clicks really fast in a straight vertical line. I havn't used it in a couple days so when I turned it on and it started clicking my first thought was the mouse was acting up or the touch pad. so I unplugged the mouse and restarted the computer. It continued to do it after the restart so I tried to turn off the touchpad. But the screen kept clicking before I could. Although it has stopped after i played around with it. It seems to keep doing it from time to time a few clicks. I know it is the touch screen function after I realized that the touch screen makes circles where you click and the mouse and touch pad don't. I hope there is a quick fix so I dont' have this problem when I travel in a few days.

What's the difference between the HP Spectre x360 and the HP Envy x360? They both look the same. The only noticeable difference is that HP Spectre x360 has a Radiance Infinity display, while HP Envy x360 has an IPS display. Having the same specs, except for the display, why is the Spectre x360 more expensive than the Envy x360 ? Moreover, I thought that IPS is better than TN, which is my guess that is the technology used for the Radiance Infinity.

I bought this laptop in July 2014 and a few months later a hairline crack appeared on the righthand hinge. About a year later the righthand hinge was completly broken. After a while the bottom-right corner of the screen had begun separating from the frame. There is now a suspiciously familliar hairline crack in the lefthand hinge. I was previously unable to send it in for repairs because I needed it every day for school but I am now unable to even close my laptop. I'm posting to find out if there is anything that can be done to fix this issue before it gets any worse.

I purchased an HP Envy 15T in August, 2014.   After 20 months, the hinge/outer case has developed a serious stress crack.  There has been no trauma to the computer that would have caused this.I am concerned that this seems to be a popular problem.  I realize I am out of warranty , but I hope HP will stand by its product and repair what look to me like a defect in the unit.  I am an employee and repeat customer of HP laptops (with great success and reliability).  I hope HP can resolve this for me.

My HP Envy was purchased roughly 2.5 years ago and about 12 months in the LHS of the case near the hinge has cracked.Since then the fan has had small pieces of plastic come adrift and jam it.From what I am reading this hinge plastic is a design flaw. Some assistance from HP would be great. I purchased an HP Envy 15t-j100 laptop two years ago that I use for home and work.  I have never had a problem with it until today.  I was stretched out working this afternoon, when I noticed that the space between my monitor and my keyboard were out of alignment.  I closed the laptop, and upon investigation, found that one of the hinges is cracked.  I have not dropped the unit and I am the sole user of this laptop.  I realize that I am out of warranty and I am in no position to cover a costly repair.  I'm worried now that I googled the problem and found that a failed hinge on this unit is common, as I also purchased this laptop for my father less than a year ago.  I have had excellent service from HP in the past and I hope that thi s time will be no different.  Can you please tell me if there is anything that can be done to remedy this cracked hinge before it gets worse and causes other problems?  I'm afraid to move my laptop off the kitchen counter, for fear that the keyboard will come apart, as the cracked hinge seems to be pulling the keyboard open.

Hi, Over the past while I've noticed the lid of my laptop becoming quite loose. The hinges now have no control whatsoever and opening the laptop causes it to bend the enclosure upwards as well as cracking the plastic base. The laptop is still very much within warranty and has sustained no falling damage - literally just the day to day process of opening and closing it. As it seems to be an existing hardware fault for the model, am hoping for some assistance in having my warranty cover a repair.

When the messages are deleted, can you still find them in your Deleted/Trash folder? Any additional info would be helpful.

I have just bought this notebook and I searching on google i noticed it has an internal M.2 port next to the HDD, and in this hp official manual it mentions M.2 SSS support, but not for this specified model. How do i check compatibility ? (mostly with BIOS). It would be awesome if i could add a SSD without loosing the 1TB hdd.  Thank you.

Hi, I'm having trouble with Windows Hello. When I first purchased my notebook, Windows Hello was working fine, I had set it up correctly and had been using it successfully for a couple of weeks. Now, it's suddenly not working, and when I try to configure it in settings, there's an error that it cannot find the camera. I've been through the support blogs/forums and tried everything I could find, i.e. updating the software drivers, updating bios, restarting, etc. I have no idea how to get it working again. I can still unlock with my pin/password but it's just inconvenient when it was so quick to use Windows Hello before.  If anyone can help that would be fab!  Cheers

This looks like one or both of these may be the correct part. HP's Manual: Manual provides no part number for the digitizer and glass. I would suggest pulling the screen and disassembling down to the glass and digitizer and compare to the pictures in the auctions: http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Envy-x360-15t-15t-w100-Touch-Screen-Glass-with-digitizer-Assembly-15-6-Ne... http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Envy-x360-15t-15t-w000-Touch-Screen-Glass-with-digitizer-Assembly-15-6-Ne... If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

I have a brand new Envy x360 that I've had about a week. The power will turn on but there is no display, no HDD activity and lights on the cap locks and mute will not turn on. I've tried a hard reboot, held the power button down for up to 30 seconds to shut it off. I've connected it to an external monitor via the hdmi port, and i've disconnected the battery for about 30 minutes, connected AC power. Still not display, no bios post and no HDD activity light. At this point I'm guessing the motherboard failed. Are there any other troubleshooting suggestions or should I return it to the store I got it at (Costco) for a replacement?

Hi ambowditch.  so, your notebook having issue with no display & caps lock is blink. caps lock blink is actually was an error which is notebook motherboard was try to tell to user.what u need to do is, try to count how many time caps lock is blink.  try do following troubleshooting first before u count the caps lock blink. 1. perform power cycle. remove battery & power adapter. then press & hold power button for 30 sec. then plug in power adapter only and power on the unit. make sure battery is not installed. if you lucky, may be the notebook will start with HP Logo and windows will load as usual. but if not, try to count how many time caps lock is blink. thanks. ghost. Please mark my post as SOLVED if it has resolved your problem. Hello,I'm having some trouble with my Envy x360 (m6-w103dx). I like it a lot so far and decided it needed a boost, so I took a Crucial BX100 250GB SSD I had and cloned the HDD that came with the laptop to the SSD. Immediately on boot the laptop says the drive's smart status has an issue/failing (which doesn't seem right, the other PC's I've been trying the SSD on aren't showing the same things, and just this morning the SSD was functioning perfectly fine as the boot drive of an older PC)After that the laptop would say "Boot device not found, Please install an operating system on your hard disk" (3F0).So I figured okay, maybe I botched cloning the HDD. I plugged the SSD back into my desktop and wiped it clean, and prepared a Windows 10 USB installer. While I was doing this, I also put the original HDD back in the laptop to make sure it was still functioning properly and the laptop booted up fine just like it used to.I put the wiped/cleaned SSD back into the laptop. I'm still getting the message about the drive's smart status on boot, and "Boot device not found, Please install an operating system on your hard disk" (3F0). So sounds like I just need to install windows...plugged in the Win 10 USB drive, and set bios to boot USB first. After that Windows 10 installer came up just like it normally does but there were no drives detected. I'm pretty stuck at this point. I've tried cloning, wiping the drive and initializing it as MBR, and again wiping it and trying... Read more

Laptop will randomly feeze to the point it becomes completely unresponsive and requires a hard reset.  This has happened consistently since I've had the laptop. In the last couple month the frequency has rapidly increased.  I have contacted HP Support numerous times and continue to get different answers and the run around each time. - All Windows and BIOS updates are ran- I did a clean reinstall of Windows based on recommendation from the chat session. Then I had one agent tell me it was probably malware and needed to send me a recovery disk, then the next person said it was a bad Microsoft update.  I've done everything asked and I still have a laptop that is constantly freezing, and this is becoming increasingly frustrating. I've noticed this seems to be a common issue with my model of laptop, and wondering if there is a fix for it. Please someone help me out here.

If you leave the power adapter plugged in dose the led stay amber? That means it is charging. Your troubleshooting describes a notebook with too low of a battery charge to boot into Windows. Let it charge for an hour or so before trying to power it on.

So the power button on my HP detached from the laptop. Long story short, I was boarding back home and hit a rock and fell forward therefore breaking the corner of the power button and shatter the touchscreen. I was still workin fine, except the fact that the screen was shattered and the power chip was dangling out of the laptop. It survived a few weeks before the power chip fell out. I couldnt find the time to go to a store to see what they could do. the only thing keeping it alive was the charging power but I fell asleep with the laptop on. Lucky me. The laptop was working perfectly. I've had it for some time right now. I have ALOT of important files and documents. I was wondering if there was a short-cut or a way I can get my Laptop on without using the power button. I just want to back-up everything i have in the laptop and make a desicion of getting a new one or fixing this one.

I have this HP ENVY x360 - 15-u111dx and I would like to add a SSD to this laptop for the OS to reside on.   According to the HP Support Assistant, it is a product number J9H90UA#ABA.HP Support page for this laptop provides me a link to this maintenance and service guide, http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04513489.  It seems to indicate that it does have the ability to take an SSD in the form factor of "M.2 2280-S3-B-M"  And in the product description, it says in the Internal Expansion section that it has this, "One 2280 M.2 daughter board - optional support for SSD"Used space on the C: drive is 90GB.  The D: (recovery) uses about 30GB.This leaves me with a few questions.1.  Can a SSD be added while keeping the factory 1TB drive installed?2.  Can I migrate the OS (and recovery partition) to that SSD, boot to that SSD, all the while not messing the up the ability to do a system restore/recovery of the OEM Windows 8.1 software provided by HP?I think step 2 will be the trickiest.  If someone knows of a free product to do this, I would welcome that recommendation.  I'll also take recommendations for paid software if no free exists.  Thanks. Edit:  Sorry, I also have a video problem, and must have had that on my mind when I sellected where to post this.  Could a mod move this to the correct forum please?

Hi, I just received this HP ENVY 15-w000 x360 Convertible PC and I am trying to set up a new copy of Windows 10. I have a flashdrive that has been set up to boot with a copy of Windows 10 that I would like to install. The problem is that when I press Escape and choose booting, I don't find the USB drive at all - the options remain the same where the flashdrive is plugged or not. Please advise. Thanks,Al

Hi, Please use a fresh or empty flash drive, not a bootable drive. Regards.

Hello,I am trying to connect my HP laptop to my TV. I have the HDMI cord plugged in, but my laptop does not respond to it. When I click the projector button to change it to "duplicate" , "extend" , or "second screen only" , it will not switch over.

I have gotten one of these a few days ago and first day the Laptop overheated and rebooted. Twice. 2 days later again it overheated and rebooted. Twice. The Battery charger also gets extremely hot. So i went and took it back earlier today and got another of the same exact kind, and again it still gets extremely hot and i just don't really know what to do anymore. I really like it but i don't know how to stop it from getting so hot. The times it gets so hot that it reboots is when i am watching Youtube for a bit or playing te Blizzard game, Heroes of the Storm. I've been keeping it on one of those cheapy wooden foldable table things.

I need help trying to find a stylus that would work for the HP ENVY x360 m6 Convertible.   This was a recent purchase and I chose the 2 in 1 laptop for the versatility to use it as a teaching tool (writing notes in one note).  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  I do not want the option of a rubber tip generic stylus but would prefer something that has more sensitivity and pressure as I also have a surface pro at school (the envy is my home computer).  Thanks!

Hello! I have a fairly new Envy x360 that came with Windows 10 preinstalled.  I do not like Win10, and have learned that many of my programs won't run on Win10.  I want to go back to Win 7 pro, but am not sure the hardware will work with an older OS.  Any recommendations on how to do this (get rid of Win10 and install Win 7)? Thanks in advance for your help!

Antarcticgecko Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! With notebooks, the primary problem with trying to run a different OS than the one preinstalled is the need for the specialized HP drivers for the specialized hardware that comes in the laptop.  Desktops don't present such difficulties because they tend to use more generic hardware and you can often swap out a piece of hardware if you need to.  Laptops don't provide that flexibility. If you will provide the detailed product number of your laptop, I can check to see if HP provides Win7 drivers for it:  http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824?jumpid=reg_r1002_usen_c-001_title_r0001We can proceed once you provide the information. Thanks
