Failure codes on 2000 Notebook PC need help

Q: Failure codes on 2000 Notebook PC need help

I have a 2000-2d69NR Notebook. It is WIN 10. Not sure if 32 bit or 64 bit. It boots up to do the "preparing automatic repair" and then after 5 seconds it turns the whole computer off. I ran the quick hard drive test twice and came up with these 2 failure ids: 1ST TEST : SHORT DST 60C49H-70985P-MFGJWK-60UD03 2ND TEST: LONG DST 60C49H-70985P-MFGJWK-61CM03 Is there anyway for me to fix this myself? Thanks Karen

So i got this hp 2000 notebook pre installed win 8 from a friend. I did some HP tests and shows HD short DST Failure.
I was able to refresh the pc and it does run per sa but constant always getting dst failures. So i assume its dying. I bought a new hard drive for the unit. Now if i put it in, will windows setup pull the product key from the bios? I put windows 8 on a usb key. Can anyone guide me through the process?

A:hp 2000 notebook Hard Drive DST short failure, Reinstall?

Hi, if the PC came originally with Windows 8 preinstalled the product key is embedded in the BIOS so it would be detected automatically. Here is a great tutorial how to install Windows 8 Clean Install - Windows 8.

Good luck, werty

Product Name: HP ENVY m7 j020dx
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)
I attempted a BIOS update earlier today. After it finished, it said that the screen may be black and LED's may blink for a while after (I don't remember the exact wording). Well, the screen was still black after about 4 hours, so I turned it off, and now it refuses to boot. There are no beeps, no error codes, no POST, nothing, so I figure the BIOS must be corrupted or something. I've tried resets and the windows key+b trick with no luck. I've spent a few hours trying to figure out how to run a the BIOS from a USB, but info is a bit scarce, so I couldn't figure it out. So, what else can I try? I don't really have the time nor the money to send it in for repairs, but I need this computer for school by next week.

Edit: A while ago, I had to restore my laptop which erased my HP_TOOLS partition. So, if anyone has the same or a similar laptop and still has their HP_TOOLS partition, a DL link would probably make this a lot easier to fix.

I built a PC for a friend about 4 months ago and he's just brought it back to me with a major problem.

The system was running fine until one day, when it suddenly froze in Windows XP. It was totally unresponsive and required a hard reset. However, after the reset it failed to reboot.

I've had a look at it and it's not responding at all, not POST beeps, nothing. I've removed everything from the system, so that only the motherboard (Abit AT7) , processor (Athlon 1900+XP) and powersupply remain, but all that happens is that the fans spin up. This motherboard has 2 leds that show if the board is receiving power and these are both lighting up fine. I also tried it with another power supply, but got the same result.

It's starting to sound, to me, as if there's a problem with either the processor or the mobo, given that there's nothing else in the system. Does this sound right, and how can I find out which one it is?

TIA

Are the exact words "Error 31" the only words that appear in the message window? If not, what are the exact words?

You might want to check out the following page. Look for information on Hardware and Device Drivers (will have info on troubleshooting), System Admin and Functions, and Security Access.

You also might try this site and do a search on Error 31:

I’ve been using Word 2000 for several years and all of a sudden (I have no idea what I changed) there seem to be formatting codes displayed all the time. The appearance is similar to the “reveal codes” used in WordPerfect

There are paragraph symbols and dots representing every space between characters. It’s driving me crazy!

How can I turn these codes off?

TIA.

I have been having Windows 7 update problems for several months.Primarily out of stubbornness I was determined to find the solution on my own.As a result of my arrogance I have spent countless hours trying every fix I can find on Microsoft as well as various online resources. All to no avail. So today I am reaching out for help.My goal of course is to get this machine to update but also to migrate it to Windows 10 at some point.

I do have a couple of questions about this process. First,I copied the CBS folder and zipped it but the file size is still a whopping 344mb.How do I get it to the required 8mb size?
Second,I have a screenshot of failed updates from several days ago-is that OK to post?
Thank you

A:Continual update failure codes,most often 80070643

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file

I was unable to locate a cross reference listing to these codes online.

Heya. Tried finding some posts for these but it's 4 am and I need to sleep soon, so.

I keep having my computer failing to update after having them turned off (Because it would restart my computer in the middle of a digital painting... You can guess my anger levels.) now for a few months, so I know that's probably an issue.

Most of them have the 705B4 error, the ones on my list that said "failed"

Some that are "pending" are the 242014 error and 72afc and 24001e, 24607.. oh my so many error codes It would take forever to find these all.

Microsoft fix it found 80070057 code.

A walkthrough would be great thanks :'3

I've tried the Microsoft fixit things and several other forums that had issues with updates but they didn't have the same error codes...

Every time I try to install 9 windows updates I receive multiple errors and they all seem to lead to corrupt manifest files. One of the updates includes Windows 7 SP1.
The errors I receive are:
Code 80073712
Code 800B0100
Code 80246007

I ran sfc /scannow and it found no problems.
I tried a system restore that did not resolve the issue.
I then ran the update readyness tool and the following result was logged:

A:Windows Update Failure with Multiple Error Codes

Hello, and welcome to the Seven Forums!

Well, hopefully we can avoid a complete reinstall, because I do have a few tricks up my sleeve

Can you please upload for me an unmodified copy of C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log, and I shall see what I can do.

Also, ideally, please avoid chopping up log files, because although I can read them, to save time when sourcing hundreds of files at once, I have many automated tools to do repetitive portions of the work for me, and truncated logs confuse these tools. But I already have a pretty good idea with what is going on with your computer, and well done for running the System Update Readiness Tool.

Thanks a lot!

A:Windows 7 BACKUP AND RESTORE FAILURE with error codes

Something is "broken" in your installation of Windows. Without knowing the full particulars of your installation, and exactly the steps you took to get to where the errors occurred, it's doubtful you can get backup working unless somebody here with expertise in Windows backup spends some time with you tracking everything down. If possible, reinstall Windows, using common procedures and disk configurations. Another option is to use a different backup tool.
Free Macrium is one, and there are others here that people recommend. It may seem "right and proper" to get Windows backup working correctly, but unless you're a "technical" who just won't give up, it's really unnecessary.
Other backup tools are simply better working and less prone to failure. I'm a "technical" but wouldn't waste time with Windows shadow copy service problems unless it was part of my job. Unless you are compelled to use Windows shadow copy services by some specific need, it's much simpler to use other software for backups and images.
I never learned about Windows shadow copy services, so I can't help you with that.
Maybe one of the people here who swear by Windows backup will help you clear up your problem.
That would be nice.

Dee33 If you did the Win10 Upgrade and are now trying to revert back to Wion8, I have some bad news for you. While Microsoft tells you that there is no risk in the Win10 Upgrade, because they let you believe that you can always revert back to your original OS and setup within 30 days, the ugly fact of the matter is that the Win10 GoBack function has proven to be unreliable -- and when it fails, it can leave machines in a corrupted state -- which doesn't always happen, but it does happen often enough to be a problem and you won't get any warning in advance that it is going to trash your PC!The Win10 Upgrade is know, in some cases, to corrupt the Recovery partition stored there by the OEM that built the original machine.  This pretty much guarantees that no HP Recovery is going to work. So, any attempt to use F11 to do a restore is doomed to failure. Are you trying to use the Recovery Disks, by booting from the first one, and they are not working? If so, what is happening when you try to use them? We can proceed once you provide the information. Thanks

Hi, Try to run a diagnostic test Turn your computer offthen turn it back on and keep on tapping on ESCLook for Diagnostics F2Look for component test, Hard drive test, then click quick check then run once. It will then check your computer's hard drive. After the test it should give you a result if the hard drive pass or fail with a failure id number If the computer pass. Try running malwarebytes to your computer (I know that the antivirus of your computer is updated but we wanted to check if there are virus infection present) Try downloading bios update. Please refer here on how to install the bios update http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/randomly-shuts-down/m-p/5603375... Note: Please disable your computer's log in password just to make sure you won't encounter any locked up issues after bios update by going to  RUN then type netplwiz then uncheck the box click apply then enter your password and re enter it (Just dont mind the user)

Short version:
Windows died on me. I don’t recall changing any settings, installing or downloading any new software. All of a sudden my computer froze, restarted, and gave me a winload.exe is missing error. I researched online, did what I was supposed to do to fix it, then got a bootmgr is missing error. With windows install disks, tools won’t work, fdisk freezes, and the computer isn’t recognizing any drives except a: and d:, which are both the same cd drive.

Detailed version:
OK, this all started four days ago. I apologize ahead of time for the length of this explanation, but I'm at a loss, and I need to explain this dilemma in its entirety so everyone can grasp what I've done. I was using my computer and everything was normal. I went downstairs, came back, and the computer had restarted. However, when it tried to load windows, an error occurred. I could not get it to load, and I do not remember what the error was that time, but I was able to restore the computer from an earlier saved point.

The computer seemed fine... until the next day. The same thing happened with the restarting, and this time I got a different error code. this time it said that winload.exe was missing. So I got on the internet to search for solutions to this problem. It seems to be quite common and also a pretty squirrely problem with Vista. I followed instructions on how to fix this with a Vista installation disk.

When I was through with that, however, I got a "bootmgr is missi... Read more

Hinge failure, left side at on/off switch and system fan.  Internal plastic components that receive the hinge screws have failed.  Apparently, the plastic cannot repeatedly sustain the forces created by the tight hinge and its screws.  Plastic chips loose in the $700 product.  Product is just shy of three years old.  Not under warranty. It is clear from this forum and other sources that HP is aware of hinge failures at least as far back as 2009.  Why would you continue to sell the suspect design?  What equitable resolution is available? Temp solution has a screwdriver inserted thru the lock port into hinge end to resist hinge movement when closing the screen.  Otherwise, it is quite an ugly scene as you are well aware. In addition, I have recently twice experienced HP printhead issues that were resolved equitably, but the HP grind is getting quite old. Thank you for your time and expert assistance.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

I have a HP Mini 1000 (model 1151NR) notebook well out of warranty. The problem is that suddenly, it started to overheat, a lot. What I do not understand is where the problem is located. I cannot work out the logic in my head to narrow down the problem. Is it the heat sink? Is it the CPU? Help.

The overheating problem is evidenced by the fan running high all the time the notebook is on. After 5 minutes, both palm rests are warm, and the underside is very hot along the whole length of the heatsink pipe to the side where the fan pushes out the hot air. I think the coper pipe runs from the GPU to the CPU and then to the fan. If I open the memory access port and though the memory DIMM, it is too hot for touch. it would probably cook an egg. The air coming out of the fan is also toasty.

I opened the notebook and cleaned/air dusted the entire inside. there was no dust or air flow blockage. there was no obvious sign of physical damage or burns, and the fan spins without any difficulty. I have the latest BIOS update and software updates, have been using the same notebook and same softwares for 1 year, and it never had this kind of heat problems. the only change is that it is just older. this heat problem is alway on even when the notebook is not running any programs and it is idle. the task manager shows the CPU usage level at 2-5% when idle, so it is not a virus or program using the CPU to 100% either.

SO this is my question: where is the problem? what is causing the overheating?... Read more

Depends on the settings. You can change it to be always on or always off via the bios, or the system settings in windows. But if you set it to always off, the fan will turn on either way if the cpu gets over 70c

When requesting assistance, please provide the complete model name and/or product number of the HP computer in question. HP/Compaq makes thousands of models of computers. Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue. The above requested information can be found on the bottom of your computer or inside the battery compartment. Please do not include your serial number.  It will be necessary to set the SATA settings in BIOS to IDE mode. If your computer doesn't support this option, you will need to "slipstream" SATA / AHCI drivers into the Windows XP disc using a utility such as nLite OS. Please click the white KUDOS star to show your appreciation

Try this link to find your chipset driver:

Recently I was doing a research about a memory update for my G42-365LA Notebook, and in many websites, including the Netbook User?s Manual, I found that this Notebook could be upgraded up to 8 Gb of memory. So I bought two RAM memories of 4 Gb each one (SoDIMM DDR3 PC3-10600 @ 1333 MHz) according to researched specifications. But the thing is that when I installed them I couldn't enter into the OS, it sent me to the Windows Error Recovery window directly, and whichever option I choose it reboots and it keeps doing that. Well, I tried installing just one memory alone and the result is different, it came up with the BSOD giving me different errors each time I reboot the Netbook. These errors are:

BAD_POOL_HEADER
PFN_LIST_CORRUPT
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

I?ve tried to reinstall the OS with memories installed, but the result is the same
.

My Notebook is a HP G42-365LA; Windows 7 Home Premium x64 Service Pack 1; Intel Core i3 CPU M 370 @2.4 GHz

I don't know if I was cheated by the manufacturer website and/or the others websites, that's why I need your help.

P.S. When I installed just one memory module, I can see The Windows intro logo, but just for two seconds or so. And I tried to install "Ubuntu 12.04 desktop amd x64" with just one 4 Gb memory module inserted and everything was good, but it wasn't with the two cards installed.

So I have the HP Stream Notebook and it's been working all well and fine. However I was going to give the computer to a friend and wanted to perform a reboot so he can receive the laptop all "new" and clean. Also my microsoft email got hacked and I never was able to recover it so being able to log in to the laptop was kind of a no go. However when I tried to perform a reset and wipe all the files the computer said it was unable to. I can't even see the log in option anymore it just displays HP and a black screen. Only thing I could do is turn it on and press F11 to see the troubleshooting menu, but everytime I try to reset it still won't work, it goes up to 37% and then it says it was unsuccessful with rebooting the laptop. I can't return it since there's no warranty but is there any hope for my laptop? This friend really needed it...

So my ASUS Laptop is being extremly slow lately, not just in the OS, but during bootup too. I dual boot Ubuntu and Windows 8 so my Laptop always loads GRUB to select if I want to boot Ubuntu or Windows. Usually, it takes 5 seconds for GRUB to load after pressing the power button, now it takes 3 minutes.

Furthermore, I suspect HDD failure because when I attempt to play a video from my HDD, you can hear occasional clicking noises from the Laptop while my disk usage shoots up to 100% and the computer hangs for a few seconds.

This morning, I booted my Laptop up and it got to the desktop, now there is no disk activity whatsoever, and half of the windows processes have not loaded yet. I cannot launch any applications and the only way to turn it off is with a forced shutdown.

I'm going to send it to ASUS to get it repaired due to suspected HDD failure and have it replaced but my question is, is this really HDD failure? Or is it something else.

This Laptop was bought just over a year ago so I was shocked that the HDD could fail this fast.

Hello

First:
My BIOS does not support booting from a USB device
The Notebook does NOT have a CD-ROM
I am able to access a USB CD-ROM with a bootdisk
I've created 3 partitions, but only the second partition is working, because the harddisk is corrupt
The partion is 7GB large and has the letter D

The Problems I've encountered:
I tried to start the ..\I386\winnt.exe but the setup doesn't see my Harddrive. Windows is unable to locate a appropriate drive with enough space.
Same as above happens when I run the winnt from the harddisk
The setup doesn't start at all when there is no CD-ROM driver loaded, so I cannot just use simple bootdisks
Well, what can I do?? I'd like to load the USB drivers during the bootsetup(using 4 bootdisk) but I do not know how. Does anyone have a idea how to get this installation going?
Thank you

My laptop probably suffered some damage within the couple years that I have had it but never had any running problems with my baby. I recently went to turn my computer on and the screen stayed black. The fan is still running and LED lights are still lit so I do not know what the problem is. I think it could be the monitor but I do not have an external monitor to test it on. I know that I am running on the Windows 10 OS but I  am not sure if it is 32-bit or 64-bit

A:HP 2000 Notebook (Energy STAR)

Try a hard reset.  http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01684768 Without an external monitor it is going to be hard to test if it is the screen panel. Merry Christmas

I hope someone can help. I have a copy of win2000 upgrade that I used to upgrade a brand new HP notebook PC from Windows ME to Win2000 (upgrade). Everything looks good except 2 things:

When it checked for win2000 compatibility with loaded software (I was just from the factory), it identified that 2000 was not compatible with any of the Windows Works programs that were pre-loaded. (that was fine as I have office xp I'm going to use). When I boot up the computer, I get an error message box saying:
WKSCal.exe -unable to locate DLL
The dynamic link library MSVCP60.DLL could not be found in specified path (.....yada-yada)
Question 1- how can I get that error message to go away for good since I don't need to ever use that file.

Question 2- win2000 shrank the screen display of the windows desktop, it doesn't fill the whole screen. It is shrunk on all 4 sides aproximately 20%. I have adjusted the screen resolution in the control panel/display/settings to the more setting and it does not help. The other parts of the screen are black and acts like the monitor is small.

I appreciate anyone's help on this. Thanks.

A:Getting a new hp notebook. 1500-2000 budget. Need some help :)

Hey Zizou I am actually in the exact same boat as you right now. I'm looking for a sub 2k notebook. Here are a few things you might find useful that I did:

The Centrino's have just gone through a yearly hardware refresh called Santa Rosa. Since these are brand new Centrino's not all the notebooks that will use them are avaliable yet. By around the end of June though, they should all be pretty much on the market. I'd really suggest waiting until at least then before you upgrade.

Now the mods here may kill me for this, but I found notebookreview.com and specifically their What notebook should I buy? section to be very helpful.

Personally I'm leaning towards getting a Compal IFL90 barebones and customizing it with powernotebooks.com. Here's the deal i was able to get on their site:

Last week I purchased an HP 2000 notebook with windows 8 installed I now wish to return and upgrade for a model with a faster processor. I only have a very few personal items on it such as my email address, windows password administrator details and log in passwords on a couple of apps. Therefore I am considering doing a factory reset to remove my personal information and any passwords I have installed. There is no windows key on the notebook itself. In the windows information there is a product ID number which I do not think is the windows key and another which seems to be it but consists of some asterisks and just the last five letters of a key therefore, I am uncertain about what I need to do.I am not very good with computers but as far as I can ascertain I need to do a factory reset via the HP repair software and not any other way.Any advice as to how I should proceed and what precautions I should take would be most welcome (I have watched the specific HP video on this proceedure, maybe I'm just stupid but I found it only added to my confusion).Don

My computer is a HP 15 Notebook PC, and I use Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit). I recently received notice of a important update regarding an HP Notebook System BIOS Update (AMD Processors). I tried doing the update, but it seems to behave strangely. Creating a restore point, checking available space, connecting to HP servers, and the downloading itself are all marked with a green check, but when it goes to installing, after a few seconds of it, a gray X box shows up beside installing, and all I can do is click 'next', and it leaves. What am I supposed to do? Is this update supremely necessary to keep using my computer as is? Model number: f100dx Product: J2X70UA//ABA

Hi @Nicmurg1? ,Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP 15-f100dx Notebook and issues with the BIOS update.I recommend to restore the BIOS defaults. You could restore the BIOS with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings. Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that might need updating. This is the only way I would do updates as they are made for your HP Notebook. I hope this helps. Thanks.

Hi, From where i can download Windows 7 x64 drivers for my HP 2000-2d49TU Notebook PC. On HP website i can see only Windows 8 and Windows 10 drivers but nothing for Windows 7? Thanks & Regards, Victor

A:Windows 7 x64 drivers for HP 2000-2d49TU Notebook PC

Hi: HP does not support your notebook for W7. Use the W7 x64 drivers and software from the HP 2000t-2a00 on your model, except the BIOS and firmware files. http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-2000-2a00-Notebook-PC-series/5259212/model/527537...

Currently my notebook has the standard 4GB of memory using the HP provided Hynix HMT451S6AFR8A SoDIMM, 12800 DDR3L-1600, 1.35V. I have been looking to replace it with either Kingston HyperX, HX316LS9IB2_8, DDR3L-1600 (2x4GB) kit or the Crucial Ballistix Sport CT6278900, DDR3L-1600 (2x4GB) kit. Both have 9-9-9 timings. My question is will the memory with lower timings and the density of the chips work on my HP 2000-2d37cl notebook with an AMD A6-5200 CPU? Also I was curious about postings in the forums where persons had lost the Admin or other passwords on theirHP 2000 notebooks or they purchased a used notebook that had a unknown password. They provide the codes from the error on screen and the reply's from techs allowed them to get past this and reset their systems. I hope I never have that problem, however where exactly are the techs getting the codes from? Is there some program or document available that has the code alogrithm? Thank You.

Hi: Type any password you want 3 times, and the PC should generate a system disabled (halt) code. After you get the halt code, see the first post at the link below for how to get an unlock code to enter, so you can get access to your PC.  There are also steps to clear the password. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-Sy?stem-and-Recovery/System-Halt-Error-Message-or-BIO?...

Hey guys, I've been noticing a strange issue with my 2011 HP 2000 Notebook laptop for quite some time and figured
I should look into asking for some assistance. For a long while now, my laptop, at very random and less-than occasional times, will make a squealing sound or a long beep, and then something inside clicks rather loud. I've noticed lately that I have received a "BAD_POOL_HEADER" Blue Screen error a few times, twice when I would wake the computer from Sleep Mode, and once while a Windows 7 update was in progress. Luckily, after my computer restarted from the one Blue Screen, the update continued like normal. I've also noticed once in a while if I shut the computer down, right before the laptop completely powers off, it may make a quick beep and click before powering off. I'm a little scared, as I don't know what could be the issue. I feel as though it's the HDD, but I don't know, hence why I'm asking for help here. Can someone help me out? Thanks!

Alrighty! Here goes!

I've been searching online for five hours looking for fixes for this. I recently replaced the Windows 8 on this Notebook with Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Edition because, simply put, I bloody hate Windows 8.

This has become problematic for me because it appears that there are no compatible drivers that pair Windows 7 and this device's hardware.

I posted in Yahoo Answers about an hour and ten minutes ago and I'm incredibly frustrated with the results (go figure). A link to that question, in case I forget any information I mentioned there: Downgrading to Windows 7 with HP 2000-2b89WM Notebook? - Yahoo! Answers

The product information page for the HP 2000-2b89WM Notebook is located here: HP 2000-2b89WM Notebook PC Product Specifications HP 2000-2b89WM Notebook PC | HP? Support

I have several drivers that are "Out of date." The main one that I'm worried about is the Graphics/Display driver. On the HP website, the device is listed as: Intel HD graphics 3000 with up to 1696MB total graphics memory.

I've tried installing the Windows 8 drivers (which do nothing) and I have also tried updating my drivers through Windows Update. I've also visited HP's driver site, Intel's, and even NVidia, I believe, all to no avail.

I'm hoping that an informed someone can tell me whether or not there are drivers for my graphics chip, and if there are, where I can find them and how I can install them in working order.

Thank you so much for any help! ... Read more

let me start from initials ...i have a hp notebook 2000 from 5 years , there was everything good until i used a data recovery software. When i was using the software to recover some data i stopped the file searching in mid, THATS WHERE MY BAD LUCK CATCHED ME after some time i stopped rec. soft. from task manager but when i tried to use it again there was some red lines showing me that there are some bad sectors in my disk . i tried to reboot but it stucked on  bios saying hard drive is inaccesible i bought a new drive shopkeeper said me your lappy heats up too much so put it on a service i said ok i after cleaning my laptop i installed fresh window 7 os in it after 1 day screen of laptop sudden goes white and it was completely off i tried to turn it on but only power on led was blinking i unplugged battery and kept it for two days after two days i plugged battery and tried to start ,, it was started but for only 5 min. now alomst after 5 days its caps lock is blinking , shopkeeper said me keep it in front of sun for 1 day it wil start but i  am in darkness plz sir or friendz help me asap

A:my hp notebook 2000 is not starting but caps lock is blinkin...

The heat damaged the motherboard. You can try keeping it in the sun. Kind of a substitute for baking the main chipset which sometimes works temporarily to melt the solder connections and get everything flowing again but never lasts very long.  The data recovery did not cause this, by the way, just a coincidence.

I have a dv6t with the i7  720m processory from about 3 yrs ago build. I think it has clarksfield processor. I have a 2 x 2 gig installed for total of 4gig now from the original build.   I am wondering (assuming Win  7 64 bit home premium which supports up to 16gig), will this laptop only support 8gig?  I ran a tool and it has a reference of Logical/Chipset memory banks  maximum memory installable of 32gig and a reference to Computer memory controller Max installable memory of 8gig.  So what gives? Will the laptop support 2x8gig memory sticks or just 2x4gig memory sticks?  The DV6T 2000 CTO Entertainment laptop.  If it supports 16 gig, I would like to just buy one of the 8gig rather than 2x4gig sticks. And maybe try to use one of the 2 gigs with the 8gig giving me 10gig for now...or just wait to see if I need a 2nd 8gig.  And will a bios upgrade support the 16 gig?

A:DV6T 2000 CTO Entertainment Notebook with i7 72QM processor...

I figured I would update my own question with the truth and working answer which hopefully helps anyone else that stubmles into this.  But in a nutshell the DV6t 2000 CTO models one could order about 2009 DO DO DO support 16gig and NOT just 8 gig. I have 2 slots. I have the 720QM quad first edition, yes first edition. Both Intel site and Memory checker sites are WRONG!  The saying was 1st gen cpu quads do not support more than 2x4gig=8gigs.  In fact one of my tools suggests I can put in up to 32gig assuming I can find 2 x 16gig memory sticks that I don't even think exist yet for general sale let alone affordability. Spread the word as hopefully this will help others. I bought memory at egghead and figured I would chance it since I read several reviews and comments in various locations suggesting they tried 16gig and indeed it worked for the 720QM processor.  I did not have to update my BIOS that HP last suggested I install circa 2010ish as opposed to the 4 or so that are available today for my model but I think were updated to support other things my model did not require. I ran memory tests too in 5 iterations without issue and in fact it booted right away with no problems with WIN 7 home premium recognizing the sticks. I also checked the CPU64z tool  tab for memory.

A:internal microphone on HP 2000 notebook laptop not working

Hello maggie75. I understand that you're having some problems with your microphone. You should try recording audio in another application so that you can determine whether this is an issue with the application or the microphone. Try the following.Click Start, type "sound recorder," and press Enter. This opens the Sound Recorder application.Attempt to record sound.Verify whether or not you hear sound.Post the result.Also. you may need to update some software. If this is the case it will be helpful to have your product number. This document can show you where it is located for me.I will await the result of this. I hope you have a great day!
