Hi A1ci,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with system not able to connect to external monitor through HDMI on your IdeaPad G50.

Have you checked with different HDMI cable?
Are you connecting to External monitor or a Televisition?
Please check if the Graphic driver is updated? If not please download the file from the support site and install it.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

So I recently decided to update my graphics for the new Battlefront and got a pop up from Catalyst Control asking if I wanted to activate some 'super high' setting for my Toshiba 32BV702B 32" tv. I foolishly clicked okay and now my tv won't display any video.

I'm not sure where to go to turn that setting off but I can get back my video by plugging in a DVI output at the same time. I just use this extra monitor for when stuff breaks cause the BIOS options don't show on HDMI output - right now it's allowing the TV to display the picture but if I remove that cable the video goes again. I'm guessing it's a different video profile when they're both plugged in from when they aren't or something and I don't know how to make changes to just the TV when both are plugged in for me to be able to see.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Kind regards,

Hey folks. Maybe you can help me? Bear in mind I know little about display outputs and conversion methods. I want to output the screen of my Lenovo Yoga 2 (II) to my old Dell 2005FPW monitor - I have done research online about this, but no clear instructions are available about what hardware I'm going to need to get this to work.  My old Dell 2005FPW monitor accepts DVI input. My Yoga 2 outputs HDMI via the mini-HDMI port. I know cables are available for mini-HDMI to DVI, but I have seen reports for other laptops (including Lenovo) and this monitor not working using this setup. Apparently in some cases you need a converting device of some kind. There are also reports of Lenovo mini-HDMI connections only allowing output to HDMI (i.e. you can't use a single cable to convert), is this true for the Yoga 2? If so I guess I would definitely need a device to convert the signal to DVI. Added to the confusion is talk of this monitor having problems with HDCP, whatever that is, and I can't find out if the Yoga 2 outputs that.  Phew. So in conclusion, can I get away with a simple mini-HDMI to DVI cable? If not, will it work if I use a device to convert the signal, and if so, can you recommend a cheap and simple device to do this that a novice like me can understand? Thanks very much for any help!

Hello! I have a problem.

I have been using my laptop to output to a large, HD (1080i max res) TV via HDMI for some time. I recently replaced my slightly older HP entertainment laptop with an ASUS K52JC-A1 running a 2.4GHz i5 and a Nvidia 310 graphics card, 4GB of RAM. In my research beforehand, I found that the specs should have been equivalent (I believe the HP was running a dual-core Intel around 2.2-2.4GHz and an ATI card of some kind), but since I switched over, I've had nothing but trouble with my HDMI outputting of .mkv x264 video output. I have done exhaustive research on this subject, at least as far as Google and word of mouth can take me, and I can't figure out why.

My precise problem is this: No matter the res, which is usually 720 or 1080 by whatever, but always the mkv container with the x264 codec, I get video choppiness and cutting, some slowing and speeding up, and occasionally pixelation and graphics "merging," where one image continues over another. The latter problems are usually only with 1080 res, which makes me suspect lack of power from either the processor or the graphics card. I figure that any i5 would have no problem with this, but I don't know a ton about the overall performance of the graphics card. I'm smart with this stuff but not too resourceful, so this is where I'm turning. I have been working on this for quite awhile with no improvement.

This only happens when the video is outputting directly to the TV w... Read more

Just wondered if it's normal for my laptop to output a max of 1280x768 through HDMI to my 26" LCD TV?

Its a Satellite R830 i3 with hd3000 graphics. I have 8GB RAM. Tried under Windows 7 and 8 but the same.
Also tried custom resolution but it just says on the TV out of range.

Mt graphics driver is up to date and I had full hd working on this TV via another older laptop.

Any suggestions please?

A:Satellite R830 and video output through HDMI

I don?t know your LCD TV specifications but fact is that external resolution depends on three options:
graphic card driver, graphic card and the external device connected to notebook/computer.

So if your TV does not support an higher resolution, you will not be able to choose another resolution.
If your TV supports higher resolution but the graphic card driver and graphic chip would not support higher resolution, you will also not be able to use it.

I just bought a new laptop and it has an hdmi output on it. It is only an average laptop so the graphics card is pretty basic- i think its just the standard intel one.

When i connect my laptop to my 42" lcd screen and run it just off the TV, the video plays fine but about every 10 seconds or so it goes jumpy for a few seconds then back to normal.
however if i connect them and run both screens- the image on the tv is much smaller but plays fine. i'm thinking that when its outputting a larger image- that is causing the slowdown cause my graphics card can't handle it.

is there anyway to produce the 42" image without the slowdown?

thanks for the help

I've got a HP Pavilion dv6 with an AMD PhenomII N930 Quad Core Processor & ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 graphics card.

When I connect the computer to my Samsung LED TV (UN40B7000WFXZA LED) with an HDMI cable , everything works great until I play a video in full screen. As soon as I do, the computer crashes and I get a gray static looking screen and have to restart my computer. This only happens when the computer is hooked up to the tv and I'm not sure how to fix it.

Does anyone know what could be causing this problem?

Any help would be appreciated!!!

Problem started a little over a month ago on my HP laptop running Windows 7 64bit.

When I connect the laptop to my either of my TVs through an hdmi cord everything works fine. Videos run smoothly and the audio is in sync as if there's no problem.

If I try to watch a video on just the laptop though the problems start. If I try to play anything (songs/videos) in Windows Media Player then it says "Windows media player encountered a problem while playing this file".

When I play a video on YouTube the video runs smoothly but there isn't any audio to go with it.

If I go to control panel - sound - speakers and headphone properties and try to play a test sound it says 'failed to play test tone'

Attempted to update the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC driver but windows said it was up to date. Same thing with the Intel(R) Display Audio driver.

Thanks for any help

A:hp laptop audio and video problems (unless connected through hdmi)

Are you leaving the HDMI cable connected to the PC when you try to us the PC's sound (IDT)? Generally, when an HDMI cable is plugged in and detected the sound automatically switches from the "Speakers" (the IDT) to HDMI as the default audio playback device and thus no regular PC sound.

I usually connect my laptop to my tv to watch video files in VLC. Recently, I have been noticing when I connect my laptop to my TV and play these video files, the audio skips so much that the video is unwatchable. This happens with every video I try to open (mostly MKV and AVI files). However, when I play these video files without the computer connected to the TV, they work fine. Could the problem be my TV or my HDMI cable?

A:Playing video files causes audio to skip when connected to TV via HDMI

In VLC, set a delay between audio or video, or for the mkv's you can demux and adjust them. First, I would update your drivers, is this a laptop or desktop?

GA-890GPA-UD3H (rev. 3.1)

GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket AM3+ - GA-890GPA-UD3H (rev. 3.1)

(Note 3) Simultaneous output for DVI-D and HDMI is not supported.

What I'm trying to do is output just my sound to the receiver via HDMI cable, but still use the DVI to my monitor for video. From the note above taken from the MB specs, sounds like this is not possible.

This is new business to me and wondering how others do this, seems little information I can find. I am ordering a HDMI to DVI cable so I can disconnect the DVI cable from the computer and instead run both video and sound through HDMI to the receiver, then the video to the monitor. Hoping this works.

If all fails then I am relegated to separate digital through S/PDIF optical link, to my receiver. According to the experts this is less than ideal since now, the multi-channel dolby and DTS signals can only be received via HDMI.

Wondering if I get a Blu-ray player for my computer how this is going to all work out. Hoping that HDMI to DVI cable does the trick.

Anyone with experience with this kind of set-up and the aforementioned hardware greatly appreciated.

And Happy NEW YEAR!

A:Gigabyte HDMI output to Yamaha receiver - no sound output

As you have a separate video card, its capabilities should determine how the video works, not the motherboard. The video is routed to the video card.

If you had some type of integrated Video on the motherboard then the motherboard's specs would apply. For example, I have an Intel i7 3770 CPU and this model has built in Intel HD4000 video which is routed to motherboard video connectors and thus the motherboard would determine how the video is distributed. However, I'm using a separate video card and thus that determines how video is distributed.

Hello guys!

I recently ran into a problem with my main LCD TV(I need to replace the power supply.) I use that LCD TV for my desktop computer, and right now all I have is my laptop. I use synergy to control both computers. However now it doesn't matter because I cannot see the desktop portion. Is there anyway for me to output my desktop computer to my laptop monitor?

Both my Desktop and Laptop have HDMI input. I also have the HDMI cord on hand right now I just don't know how I'd go about setting it up. I'd like to use synergy to control the desktop AND have it's output be on the laptop until my power supply arrives and I can fix my TV.

I'm trying to hook up my TV with my computer, and for the most part it's working. The video goes through and I get how to control it and everything. The only thing not working is the sound.

I'm using an HDMI to HDMI cable, and like I said the video is fine. Also, when the cable is plugged into my boyfriend's laptop, the sound comes out of the TV.

So this must mean the problem is with my computer specifically. Although, this computer is only a month old, so I wouldn't think anything is out of date.

I have no idea what's relevant, so I don't know what to post screenshots of, but I've read tons of other threads with the same issues but none of their solutions seem to work for me.

A:Realtek HDMI Output ATI HDMI Audio -Not Plugged In-

Info on your computer would help. We can only talk in generalites or suggestions without it. In most cases, if you have a full HDMI port with both audio and video, when you plug in an HDMI cable Windows changes the default audio playback device from the "Speakers" (your PC sound card) to "HDMI".

In your case the ATI (now called AMD) should be the device that is feeding the video and audio.

As your PC is only 1 month old, the PC vendor's tech support should be the ones to call since you haven't been able to find a solution to date.

So eagerly i tought to buy this cool looking laptop for a huge $2000 i needed it to output to a hdmi monitor ot TV so sometimes i could see movies as well, now i had to buy the special DA200 dell adaptor and in the past 3 weeks it`s been a complete nightmare, i WAS NEVER ABLE to make it work permanently. The chat support was no help at all usually simply resuming to try and replace the part but i do think the part is good and i didn't feel like waiting 2 weeks for it to ship from china.

The ethernet and usb work on the DA200 adaptor , EXCEPT HDMI.  SOMETIMES it would work briefly until next restart, i had tried everything ever available on the internet. The laptop is running Windows 10 (as it`s restricted to that version, i tried to install other versions with lots of issues and compatibility issues) so  i have installed reinstalled and installed different versions of the video driver for all possible windowses and none worked. what did work was very brief until next restart and that usually happened when i had a fresh windows install, after the first restart i will get a non working hdmi again.

I have tried several hdmi cables so i know it`s not the hdmi cable or the tv ot the monitor. and nobody seems to be able to help!!

Can you use the keyboard fn key + another key (whichever one allows you to output the video to another screen)? If you don't know what I'm talking about, there is a keyboard combination which shows a screen that says computer only, duplicate, extend, or projector only. This allows you to direct the video, so you could have the screen show on both the computer and the tv, just the tv, just the computer, etc. It is the fn key + one of the f keys. Mine is f7, but yours probably isn't the same. Just try messing around with the fn key + one of the f keys to get the duplicate, extend, computer only, projector only screen.

My main problem is when i plug the HDMI or the VGA in, nothing happens on either screen,  So i was wondering how can i go about getting this fixed so i can install the correct drivers and have a somewhat normally functional laptop.

I just bought myself a new Samsung 42 HDTV to use with my ATI Radeon HD 4350(?)

Question is, does my pc now output its graphics in HDMI, or only when i watch HD movies through it? I've looked and looked but no dice so i thought i'd ask you bunch of experts

A:HDMI Output?

Your PC outputs it's video signal via whatever cable is connecting the graphic card to the display. If you have it connected via HDMI then your PC is outputting the video via HDMI. HDMI is just the name of the interface. Whether you're watching HD movies or not, the signal is still being output through HDMI. Your PC doesn't output "HDMI". If it's connected with HDMI, then it outputs in "digital" as HDMI is a digital interface.

I have an S-Video port on my computer and I am going to run it to my 46" Projection TV.

What I want to know is how to switch b/t S-Video out and the VGA out so I can switch between my monitor and TV - is there a keyboard combination I have to hit (like on a function key on a laptop)?

I will only be viewing video files on my TV (so it won't be too often that I use the S-Video out port).

I remember doing this a while back, but it seems like I had to do a restart and unhook my VGA connection to get the S-Video feed to work - there must be an easier way.

Depending on the card, I am personally better versed with ATI, but I know my Nvidia also, you can set up a dual display and set the S video to play all movies at full screen, and through the control disable the TV when not in use.

Hello everyone,
I have a problem with my HDMI output. I have a Dell Inspiron 1525, running Vista Home Premium 32bit. I recently discovered that I can hook my laptop to my 60in LG Plasma display via HDMI and do homework large and in charge. Unfortunately, it has stopped working.

Everything worked fine for a few days, I just plugged my cable into the back of the tv, clicked "Connect to Display" in my "Personalize" window from the desktop right-click drop-down menu and everything worked perfectly. I have not adjusted the refresh rate or resolution or any other setting for that matter.

When I came home from school today I repeated all the same steps but now when I plug the cable into the computer, the sound (when you plug into a port aka. dooDEE, I know, I'm nuts, just say it to yourself) keeps going back and forth between plugged in and unplugged (DEEdoo). Repeatedly over and over as if I would keep plugging it in and unplugging it again. (As if there is a problem with a driver)

I have searched all through the device manager for !'s and disabled the HDMI Audio Output Codec then re-enabled, as well as reset my plasma display to default settings. The personalize panel also cycles through "Display Connected" and "No Display Detected" during this time.

Please, if you're a guru, extend some help, if you're gonna ask if the tv is plugged into the wall, don't waste our time. Any help from knowledgable sources will be much appreciated ... Read more

I have an Asus G73SW that I have been playing games with via the HDMI on my TV. It has worked fine for a while now. Today, it will not work.

It will give the Windows device sound when I plug in the cable (doo duu!) but the screen on my TV will not change. It remains "No Signal." I tested the HDMI port on the TV via my DVD player, and it's working correctly. I also replaced the cable thinking there might be some interruption, but nothing changed.

It went to:
''Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display\Screen Resolution''
and tried to "Detect" and it shows "1|2. Multiple Monitors" but still nothing on the TV.
I have not installed any updates or drivers etc. Maybe I pushed the wrong FN combo in my sleep? FN/F8 shows the "Laptop" on the first press, on second press, it shows "HDMI" and the laptop screen goes blank, but no signal goes through to the TV. Previous to today, when I plugged in the HDMI, it auto detected and I never had to cycle through FN/F8.

Edit: I installed the latest Nvidia Driver setup and there was no change. I also restarted with the HDMI plugged in, but it only displayed the same "No signal." Windows mobility center does recognize the Display as being connected.

A:HDMI output to the TV failing.

What's the input set TO on the TV itself?

Just checking.... if it's wrong you will be working on it helplessly forever.

The mobility app and the screen res screen ARE both showing the TV as active?

I would download your laptop manual and check out the FN keys, sounds likely.

A:Problems with HDMI Output

Please fill out your specs. Your manual is your best place to see how the LG is hooked up to a PC, not all of them use the HDMI for this most use a DVI or VGA connection, HDMI is, as you have just confirmed, used for audio if no other source is used. I would like to know if it is possible to get this working:

I have an HP G60 Notebook with an Nvidia Geforce 8200 M running with Vista basic 32 bits.
I have an HDMI output plug, an HD TV (CRT monitor) with component and s-video inputs).
I got a cable with an HDMI plug on one end and component plugs at the other end.

When I plug my computer on the monitor via this cable, I get absolutely no reaction, not even in the peripheral panel.

I get a short slight sound on my TV though, but nothing is showing and no further sound is heard.

I try to expand my display to a second screen into Windows display panel, but it does not do anything.

I try to force TV detection in NVidia but the box that I should tick for that is grey and I cannot activate this.

My drivers are up to date and I have tried loging in as Administrator under Vista (after having activated the admin account in cmd). No improvement.

Is it just not possible or does anybody have any idea?

Thanks in advance.

Need a guru...
I have a newish notebook with i3 330UM and standard Intel HD graphics/video.. Has both VGA and HDMI ports.
doing testing, the HDMI port gets no ouput when the hot key is invoked.
Drivers are the latest the oem [dell] offers, there are no bangs or other issues I can find with Windows 7 x64.
There are no related warnings or errors in the event log

tried on two monitors proven good with my other notebooks - good HDTV/Monitors with known good HDMI cables set the exact same was as with the other working notebook.
The behaviour is that the system has some detection that the HDMI is there - I get a flash on the screen when plugging in and/or unplugging the cable, but cycling through the four options offered [onboard, shared, extended, projector-only] delivers nothing to the monitor. on one, my ASUS VH226, the screen displays "no signal HDMI".
no other signs/symptoms present.

Can someone explain who's in control of what: I am assuming that for all this to work, the chipset, the video drivers, the BIOS, the windows driver all have to have the device properly supported??? i'm hoping to find some way to isolate the offender.

I plan to give the recently published-by-Intel windows 8 driver a try just for thrills. not sure it will load

Hi allI have an HP Pavilion 15-bc000nx with Integrated Intel HD Graphics 530 and a dedicated GTX 960M (4gb). I want to use the HDMI out to use my (1080p) TV as a monitor to watch a movie or play a game while closing the laptop lid. When I do so, the game becomes very laggy and slow (unplayable). When I run Fraps it give me 60 fps !!!!This happens also when I open the lid and choose duplicate displays and adjust the resolution to 1080p, as well as when I close the lid and choose show display 2 only (the TV). In both cases. When I play the game while duplicating displays it runs ultra smooth on the laptop display and at the same time still laggy and jittery on the TV, yet both diplays give 60 fps !!!! I am sure it is not a hardware problem, but how to solve this problem?? Any kind of adjustments or settings I can modify?(N.B. I tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling the new ones for both intel and nvidia from HP website, also I tried another TV) Hope someone would help meThanks

So I'm using an M73 Mini Tower with 1 VGA and 1 Display Port output as a PC for a dashboard that's to display stats and different data refreshing in internet browser windows. Our IT department has purchased two VIZIO 50' TVs and we have the PC mounted behind the TVs which are also mounted on the wall. We have one of the TVs connected by using a DisplayPort to HDMI cable and it has an active video signal. Here's the problem. We're trying to get the other TV connected as a second monitor through the TV's HDMI input, but the TV doesn't recognize the PC output. We've tried using a VGA cable with a HD2VGAMICRO converter. We've also tried a VGA to RGB converter cable which also failed miserably. Any suggestions?
Mod:  edited title for clarity

A:M73 Tower - Output to 2 HDMI TVs

You've got that Startech adapter backwards.  It is FROM HDMI TO VGA, not the other way around.
You can't feed an HDMI display device from VGA onboard.  Your easiest solution is just to install a discrete graphics card (which I'm guessing you don't have in your M73).  Something low-power like this Sapphire AMD low-profile R7-250 is modestly priced, and comes with both low-profile and full-size brackets.
Since you have a mid-tower case, your options go beyond this suggestion, but you have to stick with a low-power card.  Somewhat more expensive is the Gigabyte GTX 750ti OC card, again with low-profile or full-size bracket.  Better performance specs than the AMD card, but you may not need its performance.
Finally, there is the low-power EVGA GTX 750ti SC card, which is full-size but shorter.  Best performance, but again a bit more money.
I don't know anything about the inside of the M73, but the description talks about "half-length full-size PCIe x16" expansion slot.  I don't know what "half-length" might imply, but the full-size EVGA card is actually the "shortest" of the three so it is actually the most likely to fit in your case.  The first two are low-profile height cards and are thus longer but less high.  All three are under 60W power and should work fine with the PSU of the M73.
All three of these cards have multiple digital connectors (HDMI, DP, and DVI) and no VGA connector.  The AMD ca... Read more

I am running a Windows 7 computer with a ATI Radeon 6870 1GB graphics card. I am normaly use the DVI and speaker sound output, but when I am watching movies or playing games I like to use my HDMI output to my television.

The problem is that every time I want to hear the sound on my TV through the HDMI output, I need go into my sound settings and select my HDMI out as the defult sound output to hear the sound through HDMI on my TV.

Is there anyway for me to have my computer automatically switch to HDMI sound output when it detects the HDMI video output? This problem i am facing when i upgraded the driver from 12.3 version to the latest one and its really strange that i am facing this issue with new drivers

This used to work for me automatically when i use old version i.e. 12.3 drivers, but now i have to manually set it to default every time i change the output. Please help me out here appreciate it.

Thanks to all

A:Ati readon HDMI output ?

Normal Windows operation is to switch the default audio playback device from the Speakers to the HDMI whenever a cable is plugged into the HDMI port on a video card.

Are you leaving the HDMI cable plugged in all the time? Maybe that is the reason.

Otherwise, go to the Device Manager, Sound section and RIGHT click on the entry for the HDMI audio. Then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT check the box to also uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the HDMI sound. If there were some type of Windows corruption with the HDMI sound, this will fix it.

Hello, friends!
I'm tired off looking for answer.
So I came here to look for help, I know you're smarter than me.
I have ASUS Notebook X53U - SX155V
So my problem is AMD HDMI Output - Not Plugged In . And my PC don't have sound at all. Even microphone don't work. I think it's not drivers fault, because I reinstall them for few times. But maybe I can't get the right drivers..
So.. I'm worried about this:
I think you understand, what's the problem.
And this pic (I'm not sure how to tell about it, because of bad english, but I hope you understand)
This error apears when I want to turn on songs on WinAmp

Please help me!

Uhmmm if it's hooked up to the TV you need to Disable the on board sound and the AMD card will automatically kick in

You have to disable the onboard to use HDMI sound from the card and when your done unplug and re enable onboard sound

I have purchased a Lenovo SL500 with a single HDMI output. I tried connecting it to my Hitachi 42" plasma tv, but can't see any picture on the plasma. When I switch to the appropriate input on the tv, the laptop makes the sound indicating it found the device, and the same happens if I switch to any other TV input, I hear the sound again indicating that the laptop recognizes the device is disconnected. In short, the laptop knows when the tv is connected, so I know there is appropriate connectivity between the two. I fiddled with the function keys for external display, but still nothing on the tv. Any help would be appreciated.

A:Lenovo HDMI output

Push the Function (FN) and the F7 key (there should be two little monitors or computer like icons on the key)

That will cycle the display options.

Hi, I recently bought a T.V. from a relative. First attempt to connect my laptop to it through HDMI, my laptop screen goes black and the T.V. reads "Not supported". I unplugged the HDMI, the laptop screen remained black and could only be fixed with a hard reboot.
No progress has been made, however I've started to pinpoint where the issue lies by testing some things out:

I have had my friend plug his laptop into the T.V, that worked fine, so the only possible issue with the T.V. is simply outdated compatibilities, yet a newer laptop should be able to display something that an older t.v. could recognize.
I have tried using win+p a few times to change the display mode before connecting the HDMI cable into the laptop.
I have tried my laptop on my friends monitor, it worked immediately without having to change any settings.
I believe the main issue is in the way my laptop is sending display info to the T.V, possibly the resolution or screen refresh rate? However, it is incredibly difficult for me to troubleshoot this without any help from someone with experience in this field as my screen goes entirely black as soon as I connect the HDMI cable.

I've done some googling, people seem to have similar problems but I've yet to find an answer that works for me.

A:HDMI output not supported?

Get a hold of your freind's laptop and check his display settings:Right click desktop > Screen Resolution : note his Resolution setting, then
Click Advanced Settings > Monitor Tab : note his Screen Refresh Rate & Colors

Now go into your laptop and see if you have the same settings.

Sorry if this is a long winded question.

When I use DVI output my monitor allows me to choose from certain presets like "game" or "movie" that effect brightness etc. There is a "Dynamic contrast" preset which gives by far the best colours, however it is no good for even mildly dark scenes. However if I use HDMI output I cannot choose them as the colours seem much better and choosing the preset is not necessary, it looks as good as DVI using "dynamic contrast" and works in dark scenes perfectly.

When using DVI, I am on my PC as it has no HDMI output. When using HDMI output I am using the PS3 which has no DVI output. In both cases I am using the same monitor.

Now to my question, if I buy a DVI to HDMI cable, will the output of my PC be the same as the output of my PS3? ie perfect colours/brightness from using HDMI?

A:A question about DVI and HDMI output

The answer is probably. Your monitor probably isn't smart enough to be able to distinguish between a DVI to HDMI converter cable and a regular HDMI cable. But you simply will not know for sure until you try. For some reason your TV manufacturer decided that you would not be allowed to fine tune the picture while using DVI or maybe the DVI connector simply bypasses the "fine tuning" circuits.

I have a both a DVI and an HDMI output on my video card, but my monitor (32" JVC TV) only has HDMI inputs and I'm currently using a DVI to HDMI cable to run the video to the monitor. The TV allows me to make any adjustments using either a HDMI cable or a DVI to HDMI cable, but the video is brighter when using an HDMI cable.

My laptop crashed when removing the HDMI cable... totally dead... had to pull the battery to get it restarted. Now unfortunately the HDMI output is no longer recognizing the TV unless there is a second VGA monitor connected. Does this sound like a hardware issue?

A:HDMI output not working.

Sure sounds like it.

But first, go to Control Panel > Display > Change Display Settings > and click the Detect button with the HDMI connected to the TV.

I have been operating under the assumption that you should never "hot plug" HDMI connections. Turn off the laptop and TV, connect the cable, then turn them on.

So I had a faulty fan that had become very loud and annoying, so I disconnected it. I powered my computer back up and just got a black screen through the hdmi on my gpu (worked fine before removing fan). I switched over to the dvi on my gpu and got a display. I have tried fresh install of drivers, I have checked all hardware and cables are seated properly. I have tried 2 monitors and different hdmi cables.
I have also had 2 monitors plugged in to hdmi and dvi, I then checked nvidia control panel which detected both ports and both monitors but the hdmi still shows black.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have Windows 10 64-bit  (not suported I know )  but also Windows 7 64-bit (different partitions). Just obtained secondhand GNR TS702 monitor . It is plug and play no drivers. First question then is what graphics drivers should I have ? There are three listed at AMD High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver    299.2 MB    Oct 18, 2012     AMD High-Definition Graphics Driver     8.882.2.0 Rev.    339.0 MB    Oct 24, 2011    and Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver. Does this depend on the processor ? It is Intel B960. Second question, should I expect system audio to come out of the HDMI  port and work with the speakers on the monitor?  Windows Sound sees an HDMI playback device but nothing connected to it, even when a DVD-VI cable from the monitor is connected to that port. Do I need and special drivers for HDMI audio, if I happen not to have a monitor that supports it, or is that HDMI port video only? Thanks  a lot.

Hi there,

I'm having trouble getting my PC to output to HDMI using 32 Bit Windows 7.

When connected via HDMI the screen shows the POST/BIOS however the sides are cut off. Then it shows the 'starting windows' screen but after this it cuts off and shows 'no signal'.

I have a Gigabyte GA-EG45M-DS2H motherboard with an Intel G45/G43 Express Chipset and all of the drivers are up to date.

I spoke to someone from Intel who looked into the issue further and thought that the problem was that the driver wasn't picking up the digital part of the TV as it wasn't reading the EDID properly. He couldn't however offer a solution.

Here is what the Intel Graphics Properties Diagnostic gives:

If I must do it split like this I would like to be able to run two separate resolutions. I would like 1080p over the hdmi and 1600 x 1200 over VGA as opposed to being forced to max out the VGA resolution and carry it over to the HDMI, Thanks for the help.

Output is based on a device being detected as being connected to that port during startup. If a device is not consistently being detected, there are three likely causes: motherboard/HDMI port, cable, TV/monitor.

As for using two devices, simply configure the desktop resolution/settings for each device. Windows should remember the configuration.

Hello, I recently bought a Sapphire hd4890 and was briefly able to use the card's built in audio function via an hdmi cable to my television. I stopped for roughly a week and when I next tried to use the sound again, it didn't work. Within that period of time, I installed some Realtek drivers for my audio so I could have that cool function where when a new device is plugged in, it is detected and a menu comes up. This shouldn't pose any problem with my previous setup explained though, should it? When I right click the volume function in the Quick Launch area, and go to "Playback Devices", I am able to see my ATI High Definition Audio Device (with a picture of my television) but it says below, that it is not plugged in (im running windows 7 if that offers any help). A:HD5870 HDMI to TV no output

On my system, if I plug in my cables to send a signal (s-video) to my TV it doesn't work unless I lower the screen resolution to 1024x768 or lower (which kind of sucks, but it gets the job done).

I have laptop model HP 8530w. I got video as plug & play. But sound doesn't work until I restart. I have to keep HDMI cable connected while restarting. As soon as it works without any change right after the restart. In control panel there is audio manger indie speaker, headphone, digital audio(S/PDIF). If I change to speaker as default it works fine in laptop speaker. But same way if I set digital audio it doesn't work. It only works after restart. Also as soon as laptop goes to sleeping mode (hibernate), I have to restart to get the sound output by HDMI cable to HD tv.

How to get sound to hd tv by HDMI output without restart?

I have a mobo that supports optical out, along with a GTX295 that has HDMI. The problem is, I broke the S/PDIF connector pins on the GPU, so I can't connect it to the mobo pins. I need this cable for sound-over-HDMI to work, correct?

The second question - I am connecting to TV and home theatre, by the way - is what's the go with the optical? I did try for about half an hour, but no dice. The Yamaha receiver simply didn't get any sound out of it (TV optical out works). I did change audio output in windows, tried 'HDMI - no audio' mode in Nvidia settings, etc.

Is there some sort of option that is overriding my mobo optical out with the (faulty) HDMI out on GPU? I'd love to get this working..

Edit: Third question.. I am of the belief that the optical will only give me 5.1 in games if the receiver and game are both in a supported format, e.g. Dolby something-something. Is HDMI bound by these same rules?

First question; VGA has an unlimited resolution out put correct? If not what is it limited too?

I'm trying to get 1920x1080 resolutions for my desktop and games, but my monitor only has VGA, Svideo, and HDMI.

With VGA it caps its self at 1680x1050, nothing I do will fix this no drivers reformatting etc. I don't know what it is.

With HDMI it wil do the 1920x1080p resolution (according to windows and the little info message built into my TV) BUT it only takes up the screen in a 4:3 ratio, so 25% black on the left, 50% of my tv is being taken up by the desktop and then 25% on the right is black. It doesn't even look like the pixels in the black area are turned on.

The HDMI works fine with an Xbox.

I'm using a xfx Radeon 6790 1gb

Hi, I've been having an issue getting sound via an HDMI connection. I've been attempting to run an HDMI cable from my AMD HD7950 to my TV. I'm able to get video without any issues, however I can't seem to get any audio. The strange thing is, when I look at my playback devices, the TV is listed. However, unlike the other playback devices on the list, there are no volume bars on the right side of the device. For instance, when audio is coming from one of the other listed devices, the volume bars flicker, but when it comes to my TV, there are no volume bars at all. Additionally, I'm unable to set my TV as the default device. I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling and updating the AMD drivers but I've had no luck. I'd deeply appreciate any help! Thank you.

A:AMD HD7950 No Audio Output from HDMI

Normally, you will have multiple AMD High Def listings on the Playback Panel (see screenshot from my AMD HD7770 below).

If that is not showing, and you have reinstalled the drivers, etc, it sounds like a possible hardware problem with the video card. One test you can do, if your motherboard has an HDMI port, remove the AMD video card and use the Intel HD graphics in the i5 and see if that works OK (you may have to reinstall the Intel HD Graphics drivers). If it does work OK that would suggest the video card is the problem.

For some reason, when I tried to connect my laptop to my HDTV with the HDMI cable today, it did not work. Normally, as soon as I plug the cable into my laptop, my display immediately switches to the TV, but now my computer is not even detecting an additional display, or the HDMI plug. It was even working fine yesterday, but today, nothing. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the graphics processor, setting the computer to second screen only, using a different cable, different TV port, all the usual stuff, but for some reason my laptop just will not detect the HDMI cable.

Here's the basic information for my computer:

The computer is an HP Pavilion g6 laptop. Thanks!

A:Laptop HDMI Output Not Working

Test with a different monitor/TV. That will determine if its a PC or TV issue.

This is typically the result of a faulty port.

I've connected my Dell XPS 13 9350 to my AVR 5.1 surround sound home theater system. Unfortunately the HDMI only outputs 2 channels and is greyed out, not allowing me to select 5.1 or 7.1. How do I update or upgrade my Realtek audio drivers to support more channels?
My issues are similar to this thread for windows vista, but no one seemed to have a fix
Could someone help me get 5.1 output from my HDMI source?

A:HDMI Output only detects 2 channels not 5.1

TJ2010How do I update or upgrade my Realtek audio drivers to support more channels?
Hello. You can't. The Realtek audio chip on the motherboard is hardware that either supports surround, or doesn't. I suspect that your chip is a 2 channel chip, because the laptop only has analog output connections for 2 channels. There wouldn't be any point in having a surround chip. In the past, various Dell laptops have had the audio ports to connect a 5.1 speaker system, but I don't think any of the recent models have more than a 2 channel port.
TJ2010Could someone help me get 5.1 output from my HDMI source?
However, HDMI audio is a digital signal and so does not depend on the DAC (digital to analog) capabilities of the Realtek chip. HDMI audio is controlled by the graphics (video) driver, not the Realtek driver. See the HDMI Audio FAQ for more details about it.

I've been using an HDMI cable to connect my pc (win7 home premium 64bit, nvidia GeForce G210 video card) to my Panasonic HDTV for over 2 years. As of not so long ago (can't remember exactly when, it was around May probably) the PC and TV couldn't connect anymore.

I've tried all the HDMI inputs on my TV, downloading the latest drivers for my video card and went through all the menu's on my tv looking for settings that might turn off the HDMI functions, but without any luck.

Okay, so I've tried pretty much everything I can think of, and still can't get audio out of the television when connected via HDMI. I'm hoping that the cavalry has some brilliant ideas that I've missed.

Problem: When connecting computed to the TV via HDMI, picture is present, but no audio is coming through. When the computer is hooked up to the HDMI port on my 60" Sharp, everything is kosher.

Solutions tried:
Swapped cable
Swapped HDMI port on television
Updated drivers on Video Processor and Audio Processor
Validated that HDMI was enabled and default in control panel

So I ask of thee: WTF? When I hook any other source (XBox 360, BR Player, even my wife's HP Laptop) to the TV via HDMI, everything works great. But this one computer and the television just refuse to interface. Suggestions?

Greetings,My girlfriend lend me her Aspire S3. The PC is perfectly fine, except the fact the the screen is broken. It already broke twice (just by opening...), so we are not spending money on a third one.So, what I want to do is to connect it to an external monitor through HDMI (and possibly remove the broken screen, since it has no use). I can do it in Windows, but not outside Windows (BIOS) and I'd like install Windows 8.1 or 10. So my question is: can I force output from boot into HDMI? If so how, if not, what alternatives do I have to install a new version o Windows without spending a small fortune? Thanks in advance.

Recently installed and update for my nvidia video card, after installing i encountered a "ghost" hdmi audio output.
That is to say that when hdmi is connected video sends correctly but when i open up the playback devices 2 audio outs are shown, the problem is my laptop only has 1 hdmi port, and the sound is being send to a non existent hdmi output.
Solutions I have tried so far (they all faild)
1 Rolled back the video card driver to previous version
2 Contacted nvidia support they were stumped
3 contacted dell support they had me roll back video card driver and then they were stumped
4 completely deleted nvidia software and reinstalled from the discs that came with my computer
5 restored my entire pc back to all factory default settings
After all of that my problem still exists, any suggestions?

ok, i have a dell core 2 duo with 3gb of ram, and an ati hd4650

setup: i currently have a dvi-i to the vga port on my tv, i have an hdmi cable going to my reciever from the same video card which subsequently goes to the tv via the hdmi port

now when i boot up, both outputs get the boot up screens, when it gets into windows, the hdmi output appears to be unplugged(not available for selection, just not there) it is worth noting that it worked fine under vista, anyways, when i switch the source on my receiver, or turn it off, as long as it is plugged in, it then gets detected, and i can modify resolution, and apparently it is outputting sound as well, i cannot verify this because the receiver is OFF

ive tried various versions of the catalyst drivers, and one of them worked, until i went into the catalyst center to change something and it went back to what it was doing

i feel it is something wrong with the windows side or the driver, ive tried upgrading to the x64 version, ive tried different cables, different ports/plugs, it just wont work
i have no idea where to look in the registry to change when it is detected, but when i turn off the receiver or switch off of that source, the monitor flickers and the output is detected, this is frustrating because i wanted all of my home machines to be on 7, and i really dont want to go back to vista

*edit* so apparently it works when plugged directly into the tv, however, i really just want to have it plugged into the receiver because ... Read more

Okay, maybe this sounds silly.  But I have an E6420 with this fancy HDMI port on the back of it.  And I have a 6 month old Toshiba TV with plenty of empty HDMI-in ports.  How the heck do I get it to display on my TV?  Apparently just plugging in an HDMI cable isn't the trick, because nothing happens.  Is there some kind of Fn+F8 combo like there is with VGA that I need to use or something?  Thanks!

A:Latitude E6420 HDMI Output

Here's what I ran into, and how I fixed it:
We use 6420s, and I noticed in device manager that they have BOTH Intel AND NVidia video drivers installed.  The only conclusion I could find was that Intel was driving the computer's LCD display and NVidia was driving HDMI.  So, if I would use the keyboard (Fn + F8) to change the display, it would work fine for VGA connections, because those fell under the control of the Intel card.  Same thing for if I chose "screen resolution" from the desktop.  All those were only addressing the intel card, which controls VGA and built-in display.
To use HDMI, which falls under Nvidia, connect your cable and then right-click on the desktop and choose the Nvidia control panel.  From there, you can control display cloning and extending the display to your HDMI monitor/display.
Hope this helps someone- I spent a lot of time tearing hair out over this.

Hi there,

new to this forum but i've been searching around today trying to find an answer to this problem i'm having.

I've bought an HDMI cable to connect my laptop to TV, i've gone into the control panel and checked that "show disabled devices" and "show disconnected devices" are both allowed and still i dont seem to get an option for HDMI for audio. The picture has come through fine, but nothing I do with the audio seems to work.

Any suggestions please?

Hello,My monitor on my laptop will not display anything except when I turn it on where I have green lines down the right half of the screen but everything else is black. This last about 30 seconds and then my monitor remains black. I have attempted replacing the monitor however that one stays black and has no display either. Regardless of the screen I have attatched, I have no problems connecting it to my TV via HDMI and using it that way graphics wise. Upon closely inspecting the motherboard I have not seen any cracks or any other damage. Any insight on this problem would be very appreciated.

My playback device for my HDMI output is an AMD HDMI Output. I just got a new Bush Smart TV after cracking my old LG. HDMI output sound worked perfectly fine on my old tv and it works fine on my other Samsung TV. However the soud only refuses to work on my new Bush TV.

The picture works fine and I can see everything perfectly on the tv screen, but the sound just wont work and only works on the laptop.

Whenever I test my AMD HDMI Output with this TV, I get the error message saying - This Device is being used by another application. Please close any devices that are playing audio to this device and try again.

I don't get this error message when connected to my other TV(s). Sound and Picture works perfectly fine, yet the sound doesn't work on my new TV.

Does anyone know how I can fix this problem? I tried to update my sound driver, but it's up to date, and I've made sure that it is the correct playback device selected. Nothing seems to work though.
