After the update to Windows 8.1 a while back, the touchscreen function on my laptop went away. Every time i go to see my PC info it says "No pen or touch innput is available for this display". I have tried almost everything I can think of. I have used recovery mode and have even refreshed it. Just last night my touchscreen randomly started working at around 11:00 p.m. and this morning the touchscreen functionality went away once again. I went to my Device Manager and saw that in the Human Interface Devices section there was no touchscreen driver. My laptop has seemed to lost all touchscreen capability and I really need help.Is there ANYTHING I can do????? PLEASEE HELP!!!!! :-(      :-(      :-(      :-(      :-(      :-(      :-(      :-(

@Avious_Avi, Thanks for posting. Personally, since you mentioned the touchscreen worked before Windows 8.1, I would do a Windows refresh: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03538721 You can also try updating the drivers of the product to try and get that functionality back.

I'm using an HP ENVY m6 running Windows 8 and the keyboard just stopped working. I reinstalled the keyboard driver but still not working. I connected a USB keyboard and it works fine, also I resotred the original windows 8 OS from the hard drive but still the same problem. At the start up the keyboard works fine, I can start the setup menu, navigate, etc. the keyboard works fine. I use the keyboard diagnostic from the BIOS and the keyboard works perfectly.I'm really confused with this problem. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hey guys, I have had my TouchSmart for about 2 years, and it's been near a year that my touch input hasn't been working, but since I wasn't really using it, I never followed up until last week. But I was pretty upset when I realized I had a 2 year warranty which was just expired on 02/02/14. I have tried all be basic things that has been suggested on this site or any other sites, such as running Windows update (and yes I installed the optional updates as well). I have also checked and updated all the drivers, and at this point is running out of options. I have a bit of IT experience so I think I know what I'm doing but I'm running out of ideas.      Any suggesstions?  HP TouchSmart 610-1100z CTO Desktop PCWindows 7 Home Premuim - Service Pack 1Product no: QB912AVEverything in Device Manager seems normal (no warning signs) Thank you for help in advance

Hello @HP-Envy, Welcome back to the HP Forums! I came across your post and want to help you restore the functionality of the touchscreen on your HP ENVY TouchSmart m7-j120dx. This seems to be a driver related issue, but could be related to something else as well. To being, please perform a hard reset. Next, I recommend restoring the BIOS so the notebook will research the hardware that it has installed. HP Notebook PCs - Restoring the BIOS Once the BIOS restoration is complete follow the steps in this touchscreen troubleshooting document, I know you have completed most of the steps from it but doing it after the BIOS restoration is key. HP Notebook PCs - Touch Screen Issues (Windows 10)(If component tests is not an option in step four of that document, use the testing for hardware failures document) HP Notebook PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 10, 8) I look forward to your reply with the results!

The touchscreen stopped working suddenly. At first i though it was like a normal failure and that will get fixed by turning the pc of or restarting so I did not pay attention to it until now that I had restart my pc multiple times. Currently running win10. I started to believe it was because of an update a few days ago since it was when the problem started. I have checked for the HID-compliant Touch Screen driver.

About a month ago the cursor on my laptop screen disappeared and the clickpad stopped working. The touch screen still worked. I closed it down as I had to run and when I came back it was back. Nothing wrong after that. This morning I was on my laptop walked away for a minute and came back and the same thing happened. This time it's not coming back though.

I went into the control panel and installed all the updates that were available but that didn't help. Any other ideas of what to do to get it to work again? From what I can tell there isn't a "shutoff" for the clickpad that I might have hit.

Any help would be much appreciated!

The touchscreen on my HP Pavilion 14-b141sa laptop stopped working yesterday morning. It was intermittently failing to register touch for a while but now it doesn't respond at all. It did this before a couple of years ago, but luckily I was able to fix it earlier this year thanks to a SoftPaq called SP63116. Now it has stopped working once again and SP63116 doesn't help when I run it. I tried all of the troubleshooting advice on this page, the official HP help page (short of fully reseting/restoring the system) but none of those solutions worked either. To be clear, I tried checking everything in device manager, hard reseting, reinstalling the touchscreen driver, installing all available updates, checking I had the latest BIOS and drivers (Couldn't do a component test; that option wasn't on my F2 start-up check anymore strangely...)And as I said, I tried SP63116 again but all it does, after going through the set-up screens, is flash up for a moment then disappear without doing anything. I'm suspecting because I used it once before/it's out of date. Any help? It's not the end of the world not to have a touchscreen but it is useful sometimes.(If it's at all relevant, the battery on the laptop is a bit old and is getting the message it needs replacing. I doubt that would be affecting it though)

Sometime within the last week or so, the touchscreen stopped working on my laptop (Toshiba Satellite C55Dt-A5307). It has had Windows 10 Home since the free upgrade started last summer and never any issues. I did a clean install at that time.

However, now sometime in the last 2 weeks or so the touchscreen has stopped working. I look in Device Manager, and don't see any device that looks like it would be the touchscreen driver. I look at Toshiba's support page and don't see anything for a touchscreen driver.

I have tried using troubleshoot - hardware & devices. It says to Restart PC to finish installing drivers and updates, but doesn't make a difference. After restarting and rerunning troubleshoot it says exact same thing.

I believe an update removed the "HID-compliant touch screen" device from device manager, it has just disappeared entirely, i have tried working with usb generic device's drivers, its not listed in there, i have tried enabling the service for HID compliant device, no luck. I have tried going to acer's website for the driver for that model, it is not there. its like they stopped supporting it. help guys, i'm stuck. i need either that driver, a third-party touchscreen software, or something short of restoring it to earlier state.

The touchscreen on my Inspiron 15 7000-series started to go black, 15 months after buying the laptop.  I don't watch movies or play games, or use the touchscreen-feature more than 1% of the time.  The servicer said it cannot be repaired and the entire screen (laptop cover) needs to be replaced by Dell. Is this a common experience -- that is, do touchscreens go bad just after the warranty expires?

My U920 has been goten worst every day, first it was the thouchscreen, then the cameras and finnally today the screen has stoped working.

The ribon attachment has problems, don't know if I'm the only one or if is a design problem, but the main problemhas been the total lack of support from Toshiba.

Amazing how bad can costumer service be....

A:Satellite U920T - display, touchscreen and camera has stopped working

I don?t understand why you are not satisfied with the consumer service but fact is that in case of hardware problems, you should always contact the local Toshiba authorized service provider which is available in your country.

How to now if it?s really an hardware problem or maybe just an software issue (corrupt system)?
There is a very simple method and workaround:
In most cases if you recover the notebook back to the factory settings, the software issues should be fixed the notebook should work properly.

In case the recovery does not solve the notebook problems, the notebook?s hardware might be affected. In such case (as already mentioned above) you will need additional help from notebook engineer.

My computer's been acting up since yesterday, but nothing really drastic happened until a couple hours ago. Yesterday, my computer was being kind of slow and unresponsive. Website pages weren't loading correctly on Chrome, which was my go-to browser, but were fine on Firefox. I thought this was because I hadn't turned the computer off for a couple days. I just kept putting it on sleep because I had unfinished business, unsaved. However, it got to the point where the unresponsiveness was annoying, so I decided to restart the computer. While restarting, instead of booting back up, it got stuck on the black screen and wasn't doing anything for about 10 minuites, so I just shut it off via the power button and went to bed. (It's done this before, and booted back up with no problem other times.) Today, when I turned the computer on, it booted up fine, but was being really slow and eventually froze. I had to hold down the power button to turn it off. When I turned it back on, I got a "blue screen" that read something like: "your computer has run into a problem and needs to restart. We are collecting some error info. and then it will restart for you." When the error info was collected, the computer restarted, but instead of booting up, I kept getting the blue screen over and over again. It was throwing up two different codes on the screen, one was "WFS_VIOLATION" and the other was "0xc000021a".  Eventually I was able to press F11 to get into the pre-boot sett... Read more

About a year ago the touchscreen on my TouchSmart All-in-One just stopped working. I have been trying to figure out what has caused this and how to fix it, but none of the go-to troubleshooting fixes have worked. My computer starts up and behaves as if it does not have a touchscreen. All the drivers (which I have rolled back and updated multiple times) are fully operational and windows cannot find anything wrong with any devices or drivers. My entire computer for the past year has behaved as it would if it didn't have a touchsceen at all, but I know I have a touchscreen. I'm not sure what to do at this point. I don't know when the touchscreen would normally be detected when booting up, but it seems like this is where the problem is. I'm sorry I can't provide any more information, but that's all I got! It really is the weirdest thing!

Without warning or any hardware/software changes, my Envy 5530 stopped working wirelessly.  The blue light blinks and I have tried; (1) powering down the printer and laptop, (2) running the wireless wizard, (3) resetting to default settings, (4) unplugging my modem and router, (4) re-entering all passwords and settings, (5) using the HP print and scan doctor, yet nothing has worked. Any one know why this might happen and what can be done?

Hi, I just got a new HP Envy x 360 in July 2016 and a new HP monitor 27es Display in mid-August.  It was connecting to the monitor by using HDMI fine till last week.  From a week ago (around Labor day), it stopped recognizing the monitor.I have an old HP laptop, and it is fine connecting to the the monitor by VGA.  So, it is not the monitor's issue.I remember I did the recommended HP update around the same time.  I am suspecting that update caused the issue with HDMI.  Can anyone help?  Thanks.

Upgraded to Win 10 with no problems, I found that touchscreen is available only at login screen. I can type on the screen the password to log in or swipe the login image, or press the shutdown button on the screen, below right, or change the login user on screen. But as soon as I'm in the desktop (or tablet mode, I tried it) the touchscreen is not rworking anymore. As far as I can see touchscreen works perfectly even if there aren't officially  the drivers available for my machine,  I just would like to know how the enable the touchscreen in the desktop mode following the login. Thank you. Enrico

Well I found it: there is a key in the registry that enable/disable the touch screen. I just set it and now it works with no problem at all, nor the drivers have been changed.

One day my TouchPad stopped responding completely. I uninstalled the Synaptics SMBus TouchPad driver under Device Manager. After I restarted my computer, my TouchPad was working again with the older Microsoft TouchPad drivers that  were still there. I lost all the gesture functionality , and the TouchPad was sensitive and lagged significantly. Eventually Windows automatically updated to the latest Synapatics 19.0.12.98 and the TouchPad was working until I closed my laptop and tried opening it again. Has anyone had a similiar issue? My computer is still under warranty. Should the hardware be replaced?

Hello,  I have faced a boot/power issue, and have not found one answer to the required question. Thus After solving I came here to share my experience. I have ran into a problem where a connected usb device caused malfunction and my HP Envy dropped dead. Bascially i connected a phone via a faulty usb cable, put it to sleep and turned on the usb power supply to charge the phone while the computer was inactive. PC was on sleep mode through the night and the next morning I wanted to boot it up, but no signs of life. The laptop had the power button blinking and charging LED light, but all else was not working. I removed the battery just to face a total dead stop from the pc. Only charger light working, nothing else, no power no boot no fan spinning. I read numerous threads about a hard reset, removed my battery, removed the charger, held the power button for 45 seconds, 1 minute, 3 minutes, but nothing worked. My laptop does NOT have a beats button, which could make it stuck, therefore I did not have anything else to do.  SOLUTION: The HP Envy 15t j-series 2013 laptops have an inbuilt backup small battery. You have to open up the bottom of the laptop, remove the main battery, removed the RAM chips, remove the battery (small circle one, like a big hand watch battery, then put everything back together and the laptop boots back up with no problem.  Hope this works and solves some problems with you guys as well. After upgrading to windows 8.1 SL, I encountered touchscreen difficulties. There are times that I can use the touchscreen interface of my device smoothly but there are also times that I can't interact with my laptop using it's touchscreen. I've tried several troubleshooting like disabling and reenabling the HID-compliant touchscreen driver and also the display adapters of Intel and NVIDIA. I own an HP Envy TouchSmart 15 Notebook PC product number: E0K05UA#ABA and Model: 15-j053cl

I had a couple plastic screw inserts that hold the right side hinge to the top cover of the laptop break due to very high strength of the hinges which caused the top cover of the laptop to pry apart from the base enclosure when opened (a problem many owners of this laptop model have had). Since I was out of warranty I ordered a replacement on Ebay using the correct part number 720570-001 and disassembled my laptop to make the repairs and loosen the hinges while I was at it. I swapped out all parts being careful to note where and how plugs and ribbons were connected so I could put it back together correctly. Now after having it reassembled it will not turn on.

I get a white LED light to turn on when I plug in the power cord AC adapter (should be amber/orange in color to signify it is charging the battery) but no other sounds lights or signs of life. I have attempted to remove the battery and power cord, pressed the power button for 8-30 seconds to drain power and do a reset and then try to power up with plugging in the power cord but it won’t turn on. I also tried to power up by removing one part at a time including the hard drive, two RAM sticks, and wireless card but still not able to turn on. Do you have any ideas for what may be wrong or steps I can take to troubleshoot? Is this possible a mother board issue? Everything was working fine before embarking on this r... Read more

The fan does not start to spin either.   I have tried the hold the power for 1 minute idea, but it does not change anything.I have 3 possible conclusion that are very unlikly to me.1.  I worked on carpet and had static  electrickery! This time it worked well and the problem was resolved. But suddenly today, when I tried using touchscreen, it is not working. I do not know since when it stopped. On system properties, it says, "No pen or touch input is available for this display". I looked into this page. Then, I downloaded graphics driver from Download Center. When I do get someone in support they seem to think that if I pay $69 they can fix over the phone? I love this computer an it kills me to see it sit. Hello,I purchased an HP Envy Laptop my first year of College, and it has served me well to a point. But recently, I noticed that there was some separation happening in the body of the laptop, just next to the right hinge area. The "metal" and plastic pieces of the casing were pulling apart from each other. This began to cause problems with my disk drive as well, I believe. It became more concerning when it began happening on the right side as well, and likely caused problems with the fan.At this point, the left side of the casing, right by the vent snaps out and back into place whenever I open my laptop. As this is a problem that could be getting worse virtually every time I use the computer, it makes it stressful to enjoy my HP device. If this continues, more problems will undoubtedly arise.I need a solution to this, lest my HP experience be ruined.Thank you for your time. I do appreciate and respect it.

Last year while my daughter was at school she started reporting to me that her HP Envy Touchsmart 15" laptop's case was pulling apart at the corners.  Then she started reporting hearing rattling noises inside the case, then the fan stopped working.   I called HP support, and was told by one person the laptop was under warranty, but that wouldn't be covered because of normal wear and tear.  I called back later and then was told the laptop was not under warranty.  I called back several times, and got a variety of answers all of which added up to between $300 and $500 for repairs on a laptop that I spent $700 on! When she came home for a break from school, I took apart the laptop and removed the debries from the fan (I had purchased a replacement fan which I didn't need) and the laptop stopped overheating.  Next I tackled the hinge problem which by this time had progressed to be both hinges.  The weak plastic connections on the bottom were in bad shape, cracked and peices missing.  So (being the brain surgeon I am ) I decided to use epoxy to more firmly affix the hinges to the case.  That fix has now failed. I have seen and posted on other threads that this type of failure is (despite what HP support says) fairly common in the whole line of HP consumer grade laptops!  Before this, I had mainly used HP business grade laptops and had thought that the quality there would also be in the consumer grade laptops.  My... xshellx159 wrote:Hi there, The Wifi on this laptop keeps either dropping connection, or changing to a "limited" network. Sometimes it works fine, but more often than not it drops out. All other wifi enabled devices in my house work fine, so I know it's not the internet. I've also tested on two other networks where the same dropping out occurs. I have no idea where to begin with this really so would be grateful for any help!  Windows 8 64 BitIntel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 (up to date) ThanksHi,Welcome to the club!! There are plenty of users with the same problem. I suggest to download the latest drivers:https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?ProductID=3507&DwnldID=23258&lang=eng&iid=dc_rssIf this won't help upgrade the card to Intel 7260:http://ark.intel.com/products/75439/intel-dual-band-wireless-ac-7260Users confirmed that this chip works on Envy TS 15 models.

I purchased an HP Envy Touchsmart 23". It was used little over the three years. Last week, when starting up it started to display the message reading "Critical error/your start menu isn't working. We'll try to fix it next time you sign in". After several attempts of power off and restart, hoping the fix would happen, my HP simply stopped responding to the power on switch. The power on switch would light up indicating that the power was on, but the screen would not light up or indicate activity. Best Buy, where I purchased the computer, could not assess the problem locally - they could only arrange to send it to somewhere in BC, for an assessment that would take 2 to 6 weeks. Can anyone help?

Gps3, welcome to the forum. When requesting help you should always include the make/model (i.e. p6-xxxx) of the computer and/or monitor. This information is necessary for us to review the specifications of them.  Also, have you upgraded to Win 10?

Bought Envy in December 2014.  At about 19 months I noticed the hinge was not working right and I found a small screw which fell out.  The hinge has gotten worse over the last month or so even though I  have been careful with it. I am the only user.  I saw many other posts about hinge problems on the envy.  Is Hp doing anything about this problem?  I believe its only a one year warrenty.  Am I SOL because of this?

@mas1064

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details). If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.
