Hello, I am in need of a bit of help. I have a old Gateway 7510GX notebook that wont charge, and will only run if plugged in to the wall. I am 99% sure that the charging circuit has gone bad, because the charge indicator icon stays at 66 percent for ever.

Do you think I should open up the laptop and check the board for burnt components, or what?
Also, External battery chargers for laptops go for big $$$. So would it be possible to remove the cells and hook them to a external charger. (I have a slow charger made for RC Li-Ion batteries that I think would be perfect).

Thanks,
Richard

My laptop keeps shutting down and then rebooting, it has been happening a lot. A few days ago it just shut down, while it was charging and it would not turn back on. It still won't. I lost the original charger, but I'm using a charger that fits it. I have been charging it for a day or two and it won't turn on! I need my laptop and I can't really afford to buy a new battery, I heard they are really expensive. My laptop is an Acer, Aspire 5742 series. Please help. ):

A:My laptop wont turn on or charge

If you don't have the original charger and you are using a charger not designed for your laptop voltage, amps and watts you most likely damaged your laptop. (Capacitor or resistor on the motherboard).

I bought a acer chroombook C720, it was working fine and charging fine for about a month or two, but one day i left it charging and when i got home i tried to turn on, but it wouldnt and when I looked if it was charging the charging led wasnt on. i left it alone for a month and try to plug it in and charge it but it wasnt workin so I call acer customer servise but they say the didnt know what it was so they send a new charge to see if that was the proble but it wasnt. I call acer again they told me that i could send the chromebook back but it could be a possibility that i could pay for anything they fix which i think is not fair cause i have a year guarranty, and it was about three months that i have bought it. so before sending the chromebook i tried to plug it in to see if it would work and to my surprised the charging led turn on and minutes later the chromebook turn on and it was charging fine. my happiness didnt last long cause three days later it did the same thing it wont turn on or charge again. I dont know what could it be I need help but I dont want to call acer again. if some one can help me please. my guarranty is about to expire in may i dont know what to do!

vira,

Sorry to hear that you are having charging issues. I'd like to clarify a few things about your post, to make sure I understand what you are trying to explain.

"...I call acer customer servise but they say the didnt know what it was so they send a new charge to see if that was the proble but it wasnt."

How was the determination made that this wouldn't fix the problem?

"I call acer again they told me that i could send the chromebook back but it could be a possibility that i could pay for anything they fix which i think is not fair cause i have a year guarranty, and it was about three months that i have bought it."

The technician you spoke with was probably just giving the standard disclaimer, but they also give the same disclaimer if the description of the problem sounds like it might be something that is outside of the stadard manufacturer's warranty.

"so before sending the chromebook i tried to plug it in to see if it would work and to my surprised the charging led turn on and minutes later the chromebook turn on and it was charging fine. my happiness didnt last long cause three days later it did the same thing it wont turn on or charge again."

This sounds like a little bit of charge left in the battery, not an issue fixing itself unfortunately.

It sounds to me like there is a charging problem, which based on your post here doesn't sound like anything that is outside of the standard manufacturer's warranty. I'd love to see if I c... Read more

If the battery was severely depleted it can take a good 2-3 hours of the vibrating before it actually starts up. Just leave plugged in using a wall adapter (not computer)

So one day I reset my phone due to my phone slowing down, and it would not turn on.
For info purposes I have a Lumia 640 updated to win 10 (originally 8.1)
After this I put it on the charger, it would load the Microsoft logo. then go to the charging screen with plug icon.
This is odd due to being at 80℅ of battery before I rebooted. Often it'll sit there with no result, sometimes it'll reboot multiple times.
If I remove the charger the phone instantly turns off. This has been going on for 5 days. Yesterday when I plugged the phone in it went back to tiles, but when I removed the battery to put my sim back in the issue came back. It also showed 72℅ charged so can't be the battery, and I don't know how that happened.
Windows recovery tool can't see the device and when I choose the find option the fix won't get to the phone. When I plug my Lumia via USB it reboots over and over and disconnects over and over as my computer keeps making the USB sound. The only time this doesn't happen is if i hold volume up or down when I plug it, sometimes, and that just freezes it on the ms logo. When I continue from there the phone will reboot as the installation is loading.
The issue is clearly not the battery. As it's 70℅ or so, yet Iget the 0 charge icon and the phone won't turn on outside the charger.
I have no clue what the solution to this problem is.

TechSpot members,
Hello everyone, I've got a problem here, I've scanned the forums and all over google looking for the cause of the problem, hopefully I can find it here.

I own a HP dv6225us notebook. It's part of the HP Pavilion dv6000 series. I bought the notebook in February 2007 and have used it for just over a year, no problems whatsoever.

Several hours ago, I was on my computer and it started to act slow and programs were freezing up. I decided to restart the computer. However, it turned off but it then wouldn't turn back on.

I pressed the On/Off button on the top left of the laptop. The blue lights on the laptop will flash on and then, boom, turns right off. I tried this for 10 times and then on the 11th time, when I pressed the On button, the blue lights came on and then I heard the fan start. I thought I was back in business but then the notebook turned right off. Meanwhile, the screen stays black the whole time.

The notebook was charged 100% when I restarted the notebook. I figured it could be a AC Adapter problem but when I removed the battery, and tried to turn on the notebook, the same problem occured. It just turned on for a second and turned right off.

Honestly, I feel like crying because I have about 80 GB worth of files, videos, pictures that I've accumulated. I've read that ,sometimes, the problem might be a fried motherboard? Unfortunately, when it comes to the technical aspects, I am a noob.

I've taken... Read more

A:HP dv6225us notebook wont turn on

Thank you Zenosincks for your reply. I just got off HP tech support, I went through a battery of tests to turn on the notebook but to no avail.

Miraculously, I still had seven days left on my warranty so since I called in with my problem, they said they would send me a box and I'll send in my notebook for it to be fixed...free of charge. Tech support is based out of India and omg, I had a tough time understanding what the man said half the time.

I did some more research and indeed, the HP dv6000 series has been plagued by problems. I honestly can't believe that my notebook's hardware can go to crap after ONLY a year. Makes me wonder.

Quick question on retrieving the data from the laptop. If I were to remove the hard disk drive and go through the appropriate steps to recover the data, would this void my warranty? Last thing I would want to do is do something stupid, send the notebook in, and they say they won't fix it. While I wait for the box to come in, I might just take the laptop to a computer shop and see if they can do that.

Have you tried a battery diagnostic either in the UEFI diagnostics (F2 as you power on) or in the HP Support Assistant running from Windows? Stopping at 81% seems like it may be a dead power cell in the battery. Can we have the full model number of the laptop and an idea how old the battery is? Original?

I attempted to contact HP is regard to the issue that I am experiencing, but cannot as my warranty expired on 6/22/16.  I'm hoping someone e here can provide insight.  When I turned my Stream on this afternoon, it wouldn't boot.  Odd, since it was fully charged last night, so I went ahead and plugged it in.  Upon doing so, I encountered a black screen stating my internal battery was nearly at capacity.  What precisely does that mean?  I am able to use the notebook as long as I keep it plugged in.  Also, while plugged in I receive a message stating that it's connected to a power source and the battery is not charging.  The moment I unplug it, it shuts down. I'm more than upset in regard to this new and unwanted development.  The notebook is only 15 months old.  Is there any way to salvage it or am I looking at buying a new one?  I've always used HP desktops, laptops, and notebooks; now I will never purchase one again. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

I got this Toshiba Satellite 32PFL3312/10 - But now there is some problems

The battery indicator says that the the charger is plugged in, and IS charging. but it doesnt charge the battery.. no charge is taking place :-/ Its says there is "0" battery left. I have triede everything.. i toke the battery out, made sure there wasnt any dust etc.. i have tried holdning the power key down in 30 sec and a lot more. everytime i unplug the charger the system instantly swiched off.. I have tried to change the power plan from balanced to saver.

Then i tried to delete the Microsoft ACPI Compliant control method battery from the decive manager, and made it search for it again. This step made the battery start to charge for about 10-15 sec, and then it stopped again.

Now im kind of frustrated... So i thought that maybe it was an windows update problem, so i tried to update - but i got several updates "hanging" but now it wont update.. ! Comes with update errors. tried microsoft fix it, it didnt help.

Then i thought, okay... then i will try to restore to the factory condition, But nothing happens, i have tried all the guides from the Toshiba forums, pressing "0" - I did nothing... Then i tried pressing "F8" it didnt nothing... Then i tried the "F12" still nothing.

Im going nuts now... Hope someone in here can help me....

My notebook is not charging. I don't know if it's the charger that's not working or could it be the charging port on the notebook itself. I have been charging it for the past few days and it's doing pretty well until I plugged it on a socket and didn't charge anymore. Tried checking the charger, it smelled a little burnt on the blue end with the pin and also on the charging port. When I plugged it, there was no popping sound whatsoever that could lead to me assuming it had a short circuit. Checked the socket, it was compatible with the charger. What am I to do?

Hi EightForum,

I really hope you can answer this simply request.

Nowadays is pretty common to have a new Ultrabook, laptop or notebook for general purposes. A very important feature is to have a healthy battery. We all know that Lithium-batts do a terrific job and are more resistant than never, but after many years of experience, I've learnt that having a software like "Eco charge, Battery care, Smart charge...etc " is a clever and vital feature already present in major brands BUT HP, believe or not. I've just received a new Ultrabook Spectra x360 with windows 8.1, and so far I cannot find any special battery function for this request, even worst nobody can answer in their forum either; I really can't understand this flaw in HP. So, I'd like to know is there any reliable battery software that can allow me to keep the battery charge to 80% and no more, even connected to AC power.

I've seen several that keep info about battery and how to optimize but none with the simple function that I need.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

A:How can I set maximum level of battery charge for notebook

I honestly don't think it is possible to change what is built into the hardware and ACPI that ships with the computer. Would take a program that can access and change the settings in ACPI and this most likely would have to come from the manufacturer.

My company bought these notebooks for some of our products and we install Ubuntu 12.04LTS on them.  When we shut them down and try to charge them it doesn't work.   The light beside charging port is on (like it is charging), but cannot turn on computer after hours of "charging" because the batteries are drained.  It looks like it charges fine when the computers are turned on and charging, but not when we try to charge them without turning them on. We are wondering if this is some known issue and what would be correct procedure for charging these netbooks?

A:HP 210 G1 notebook with UBUNTU doesn't charge battery

Hey, Bit of a late answer, but I'll submit it in case anyone else has a similar issue. There is an issue with one of the BIOS version on the 210 G1, BIOS version F.03. If this is not updated to the most current version you'll find your batteries will drain quite quickly and will not charge properly. Also as your running Ubuntu, you may need to use the UEFI tool from HP to update the BIOS, here it's called the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics 3 in 1 USB Key: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/pc-diags.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/pps/pl_... Best of luck.

Hi, Recently the main fan on my notebook failed. Thus, I found a new cooling assembly part on ebay, ordered it, and installed it. The installation process required the complete disassembly of the notebook. I followed a video guide for this. I am well aware that disassembly voids any kind of warranty, this machine was already well out of warranty. After re-assembling the notebook, it doesn't boot or show any signs of life. I have tried all combinations of powering on with and without battery, with and without AC adapter, and with and without the hard drive. The computer's charging light doesn't light up when the adapter is plugged in, but right after I insert the plug to the computer, I hear a very faint clicking once or twice where it plugs in. I am curious if possibly during the disassembly/reassembly process I broke a power component to the computer or possibly shorted out something on the motherboard. I didn't use an antistatic wristband during the process however in hindsight I definitely should have. I'm curious as to which part could possibly need replacing according to the symptoms described above. I double checked that all plugs were properly inserted as well. Hopefully someone can point me towards whether the problem is with the DC-in power component within the computer or perhaps the entire motherboard. If it's just the little DC component, could that be easily replaced? Thanks,Matt

Hello to all, I'm new to this forum.
Start of with a topic what was published many times before, only not the same as in my situation. The crazy thing is, at every startup from Windows the battery icon runs the charge bar 5 times, and than it stops. At pointer it says: 0% available ( on main supply, battery is being charged) However, this does never change. Nomatter how long it charges.
BatteryBar does the same thing:
Procent 0,0 %
Capacity 0mWh of 43.568 mWh
Battery unknown (charging)
Charge 0 mW
Full time 1:17
Main supply connected
battery waist 18,2% of 53.280 mWh

Does anybody have the patience to shine a light on this drained topic. I feel, mines is different.
Would be highly apreciated.
Thanks in advance

Last night I was using my laptop and out of nowhere my screen went blank but the machine stayed powered on. I rebooted and about 15 mins later the screen went blank again and the power turned off. I tried to turn it back on and it wouldn't respond. The charge indicator light won't respond either when I plug it in. The computer never told me the battery was running low either. I've tried plugging it in a few different outlets. Does this sound like a battery problem or something internal with the computer? The laptop is about 2 years old.

If it sounds like a battery, I'd have no problem buying a new one and trying it. If this sounds like an internal one though I don't want to waste my money on one and would like to put that towards a new one.

Thank you.

Hello,I'm really disappointed with my HP laptop which is not even a year old.It has hardly been used. I used it last night and it was fine. Today I plugged it in and tried to turn it on.. It was charging and the power button was flashing but it would not turn on.I left it charging for a while and then returned to try and turn it on. This time when I tried it made a strange noise as though it was literally dying and then suddenly the light behind the power button and the LED that indicates it's charging, both died out.I have tried taking the battery out, draining the residual energy, using it without a battery.... Nothing.I suspect it is a problem with the laptop as oppose to the charger as the laptop WAS charging, it just would not turn on.. And after the computer made the dying sound it will not light up at all.Help would be appreciated. I'm so frustrated as I desperately need to use my laptop right now for work and I am not in a position to buy a new one.

A:My laptop won't charge nor turn on

Try another outlet.
Take out the battery and try it with the ac adapter\power cord plugged in.
Try another AC Adapter or Power Cord.

One of the two is probably faulty.

I bought a Yoga 700 and after a couple of months it stopped charging and wouldn't turn on. When pressing the power button the light flashed amber a couple of times but that was it. I returned it for repair and the repair notes said the BIOS had been upgraded and it was working again. Unfortunately the person performing the repair sliced the top of the laptop with what looks to have been a Stanley knife but they didn't say anything. I returned it and got a replacement. Now, a few weeks later I have exactly the same symptoms with the new Yoga 700. Is this a known problem with the 700 because it seems too much of a coincidence? I'm probably just going to ask for my money back unless someone can tell me a quick fix? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure if I'm putting this in the right place, but I suppose it will work. I have an HP pavillion notebook that's a little over a year old. I was playing a game on it last night when the screen just went to black. It sat there with a black screen for about 10 minutes before I did a hard shut down. I tried to turn it back on about 20 minutes later, and it wouldn't turn on. Assuming it was dead, I plugged it in, but the charging light wouldn't light up. I'm really not sure what's going on, I've read some places it could be the mother board, or the charger needs to be replaced. My warranty conviently ran out in August, and it would be great to know what's wrong with it.

A:Laptop won't turn on or charge

Hi sklassen,

I saw your post regarding the computer not turning on. It could several things that are causing the problem; the motherboard, battery or power cord. I would start with a hard reset, remove both the battery and the power cord. Then hold down the power button for 60 seconds, this will drain any excess power in the unit then start by plugging in the power cord first and try starting up the laptop. Then try it with the battery.

Are the Num and Caps Lock key flashing at all? If so how many times? Do you hear the fans turning on at all? It will be hard to diagnose this issue without the laptop turning on.

What is your product number? What is your operating system?

hello all, I have a laptop, HP Compaq nc8230. Has not been used for any other purpose but internet use and regular student use. Not long ago the pc just stopped turning on. Not a sound or visibility of life. It's totally dead! The only led that lights up is the charge led, it turns green but does not charge the computer at all. I have removed/reinstalled the battery and the ram module to see if anything will change but it's still dead. Do any of you have any suggestions of what it could be? Please help me revive my laptop back to operational. Thank you, any help you all can give me is greatly appreciated.

Alright, so, my friend has a Zaio model pcg-61a12l laptop running on Windows 7. Earlier today we were at school trying to use it but it wouldn't turn on and she didn't have the charger. We just assumed it had died.
She took it home, and told me that she tried to plug in her laptop and it would not charge. The light on the charger is on, so it's not plugged into the wrong outlet or anything, but the laptop is not receiving any charge and is still not turning on.

She's freaking out because it's a pretty expensive laptop and doesn't want her father to get mad about it.

I asked if she had downloaded anything or banged it against something and she said she hasn't. That she had even tried taking the battery out and putting it back in and it still won't work.

Any ideas? It's hard because I don't have the laptop with me, I'm on the phone with her /: But I'll have it tomorrow if it's not working then, so any ideas will be MUCH appreciated.

She's only had the laptop for about a month

A:Computer won't turn on or Charge

Hey Elegiacxiii

Try these steps, this has proved helpful to many users having this problem.

1. Disconnect the AC Supply
2. Remove the battery
3. Connect the AC Adapter
4. Startup

IMPORTANT: Before you try out these remaining steps, be sure to create a restore point, lest some problem may creep in. (Go To Control Panel --> System and Security --> System --> System Protection (on the left pane) --> Create).

5. Open Device Manager
Under the Batteries category, right-click all of the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listings, and select Uninstall (sometimes you may have only one, this is perfectly okay)
6. Shutdown your Vaio
7. Disconnect the AC Supply
8. Insert the battery
9. Connect the AC Adapter
10. Startup

IMPORTANT: If this doesn't work be sure to restore your system. (Go To Start --> Search System Restore --> Recommended restore --> Confirm)

Hope this resolves your problem, if it doesn't feel free to post it here. There are many more personnel who can help you solve your problem. Stay with us.

My laptop is just over a year old and is not heavily used. When trying to use it today, it turned off, despite being plugged in and now will not charge (no light comes on, even when connected to a power source). It looks from the forums as though this is a known issue. I'm really disappointed as it was an expensive product and should not fail after a year. Has anyone been able to resolve this?

Hp won't charge. This is an HP refurb and it has worked fine since I bought it in May, until recently when it suddenly stopped charging. I've checked the charging cable and there is no damage, likewise no damage to laptop input. I've tried it at several outlets in my home to assure it wasn't the issue. This model doesn't have an accessible battery. It is completely dead and will not power on. Should I order a replacement cable or take it in for new battery or repair??

Hello,My laptop said 7% left of battery so I stood up and got the charger when I came back the laptop was off and I tried turning it back on and it wouldn't also the charging light doesn't turn on ! Please HELP!! It was raining and thundering.
Before that happened I downloaded a file called slenderman and deleted it but it's still in my recycling bin did the file do anything??

A:Sony Laptop won't turn on or charge

Hello DessyQueenz,

If I am thinking of the same thing, slenderman is a video game based off of an old video series from YouTube, not anything malicious. Does that sound familiar? If so, don't worry about that.

However, the thunderstorm part is important. Your laptop may have prematurely shut down due to the thunderstorm and there's some sort of electrical damage now. Whether it's to the motherboard itself or another component, etc.

I would recommend contacting the manufacturer of the laptop and telling them your laptop suffered storm damage and can no longer turn on.

Regards,

Patrick

My new HP Chromebook 11 will not turn on.  The charging light will not turn on and there is no response to pushing and holding the power button.  I don't know if the battery was low prior to this problem, but the charging light will not turn on even after hours of charging and trying a hard reboot will not work either.  I have read multiple posts about this problem but none have answered this question consistently or correctly for my problem. Things I have tried: Replacing the recalled charger - checkLetting it sit charging for over four hours - checkTrying multiple chargers of varying voltage - checkTrying a hard reboot by pressing down and holding the refresh and power buttons together - checkAnd multiple other key combinations, including holding down the power button while removing and replacing the charger - check None of the above have produced ANY results.  Any ideas on how to fix the problem?  There is no visible battery pack, so I can't simply remove that which often works for other notebooks. Thanks in advance to anyone more tech savvy than me who has any suggestions. (P.S. Ideally I'd like to avoid returning the machine altogether)

A:Unable to Charge or Turn on HP Chromebook 11

HI jaymae, Welcome to the HP forum!  I understand that your Chromebook 11 will not power on.   When you try to power it on, do you see a light in the back where the power is connected? Do you hear any mechanical noises ( iE  fan spinning,HDD spinning). If yes I would try this  Computer Does Not Power on After Software Update (Chrome OS).  If you have no mechanical noises at all, I would contact Chrome support. There should be a listing in  the documentation that came with the computer. This will provide the best contact information for your system.  If you are unable to locate it, here is a general link for Chrome Support.  Please let me know the results.

I've had my laptop plugged in for a while now and it won't turn on. When I plug it up the light beside the charger turns white for a few seconds and then turns red.Any suggestions?

A:HP 2000 won't turn on/charge when plugged in

Hey Ctfields,  I'm sorry you're running into this issue. If the light is turning solid red/amber and not blinking, that means it is charging the battery.  What happens when you press the Power button? Does the light on it come on at all, blink or remain on? Do you hear any spinning sounds from the fan and/or drives in the computer? Do you see any image on the screen, whether it is just an HP logo or a black screen with a blinking cursor or anything at all? Do you hear Windows' startup sounds? Do you see the Caps/Num lock lights blinking? If so, please let me know how many times it blinks.  I would suggest trying a hard reset, if you haven't already. A hard reset will drain all of the residual electricity out of the unit and give it a clean boot state. This can solve a lot of mysterious no-boot situations. 1. Disconnect the AC Adapter and battery.2. Press and hold the Power button for about 10 seconds, then release.3. Reinsert the battery and AC Adapter.4. Press the Power button to turn the computer on.

I've now had the charger plugged in for 3 hours and the charging light hasn't turned on and the laptop won't turn on at all. Have you tried clearing the CMOS to see if it will help resolve the problem ?  Just follow this procedure.....

1. Unplug the charger / adapter. 2. Remove the battery. 3. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. 4. Re-install the battery, plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

Hello all, just looking for some help. I am completely desperate at this point!
As the title states, I own the Lenovo Yoga 2 11 inch version (the one on this link http://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-yoga-2-2-in-1-11-6-touch-screen-laptop-intel-pentium-4gb-memory-5...
Please note that this is the version with the Pentium N3520, not the i5-4210Y! This laptop was purchased at the end of March.

Anyway, the last time I used this laptop was on Thursday. I used it to quickly email something to the desktop I was using. I noticed it had around 10% battery left, so I planned on charging it later that day.

I got caught up with some other school work and did not touch my laptop until Friday morning. I pressed the power button, but it did not turn on. This was not surprising, since I figured the battery had run out since the previous day. I plugged it in but immediately noticed that something was wrong. The Power/Charging LED did not turn on. The laptop does not POST, and it does not beep! The fans do not start up, and the screen does not even flicker. It is exactly as if the battery is not there. The charger and the outlet work fine, as they have been tested with another Lenovo laptop.

I opened it up to see if anything was loose, but nothing appears wrong. I am seriously scared that I will have to return this laptop to Lenovo. I have very sensitive information regarding my engineering work, and some private files from a company. Plus, I have all my N... Read more

This is the second time I am facing this issue. First time last year Lenovo support guy came in anc changed the motherboard. It worked for a year and again now same problem. My G5070 is not charging with battery plugged it.I tried the battery drain method, it worked for 2-3 times but now it is also not working. It is not under warranty now. If lenovo knows that there is a problem with this series, why not to roll out a permanent solution. I have been using Lenovo phones, and infact I bought G5080 also, but this problem is breaking my brand trust.I dont know what to do. DOnt want to spend money to go to service center and pay for it, which not even customers fault. Its manufacturing defect, either of the motherboard or battery.

Hi,

I'm having a common issue I would say. Last time I used my laptop was this afternoon to watch a short clip on youtube, I turned it off right after and I remember it was at 17%, although I have the power button to shut down right away. A few hours ago, I decided to turn it and and surprised I noticed it didn't turn on. I tried to plug my A/C adapter to charge it a couple of minute but the lightning light didn't even show up. I've google'd around and found a way to hard reset it ( Remove the battery/adapter/ hold the power button 30 sec) no success still. I'm wondering if it's either the adapter or the battery is dead, as I don't have any spare of both right now is there a way to confirm it?

Thanks.

A:Laptop doesn't turn on/charge anymore

Hi

There's usually a small light on the power adaptor... is it on? If not, it's probably dead. Try another main lead.
If the light is on, remove the battery from the laptop and connect the power adaptor. Does the laptop turn on?
If not, try the reset again.

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong spot, I'm new. I have an Acer Aspire 7736Z-4088 laptop. I do not remember the year it was purchased, but it has been a few years. This laptop and I have a love-hate relationship with each other. The laptop has sat idle for months because it stopped charging and I could no longer turn it on because the battery was dead. It has stopped charing before and I left it for months until it randomly decided to start charging again. Before it stopped charging the most recent time, the laptop would only charge if the charging cable was in a certain position. The charger I am using is a Targus charger. When plugged into an outlet, the charger light turns on, however when plugged into the laptop, nothing. Is my laptop battery completely useless and needs to be replaced? Or is it something to do with the charger or charging pin?

Hi guys,

I have a laptop I'm working on that will not turn on/ charge. I've tried a different adapter to no avail. I've also taken a battery from an equally rated Dell Inspiron (different model) laptop and it does not turn on with that either.

I've replaced the charging component off a motherboard before but this one is different as it is not simply a connector that goes from the charging outlet and plugs into the motherboard somewhere. It is just a piece that is soldered on and I can't tell what route it's taking.

I've tested the charger using a multimeter and it outputs ~ 19.5v so it should be fine. Any ideas?

EDIT: After doing some research online, I found that the center pin of the charger 'port' (on motherboard) sometimes goes in. Has anyone replaced one of these? If so, do you just unsolder it and solder in the new one? Someone mentioned putting some solder in the center and that fixes it?

A:Solved: Dell Inspiron E1505 Won't Charge / Turn on

Does anything at all happen when you try to power it up, any lights flashing or sounds ?

If it doesn't work with a charged up battery there is a hardware problem inside the laptop.
If it was just the power socket it should still work from battery power.

I would try charging the problem laptop's battery in the other laptop then try it in the problem laptop.

So I thought the battery had gone out, and I plugged it in, and yet it still didn't turn on. What I also noticed was that the front charge light also didn't turn on. I tried my laptop with my other gateway charger and still no use. I don't know what happened, but how do I fix this? Is there even an identifiable problem? I've looked at countless other posts, and did what they have told me, with taking out the battery and clicking the power button, such and such.

Run the HP Battery health test in the HP Support Assistant. It will read the data in the battery like the number of cycles...like odometer on a car and also the health of each cell. The most likely thing is that the battery needs replacement. They do not last forever.

Ok i have a Gateway MT6451, its about 8 months old and IS still under manufacturer warranty. In the past few months i have noticed that my battery isn't all that good. I do leave my laptop on my bed charging most of the day all week long. Now about 2 months ago something happened to my all the outlets in my room, and none of them work still to this day until an electrician can get there. After that i noticed that my battery doesn't like to charge as good as it used to. Now by that i mean, every so often i would see it flicker on and off as if its charging and not charging, but the whole time it wold be plugged in. Well last night it did it tremendously bad and began to flicker a lot when i would wiggle the cord. Well i woke up this morning and my computer wont charge at all. I called Gateway and they said to reseat the memory and hard drive (whatever that has to do with power i don't know). I did that and still no power. I know my battery isn't very good, and doesn't last long when unplugged but like i said i hardly ever unplug it. My question is there something i can do to fix the computer myself instead of having to send it to gateway. I'm a college student and cannot afford to go without my computer for a month while it sits in gateways warehouse waiting to be fixed. Any suggestions? Anyone think they may know what the problem is? Actually, this happens to me on occasion with a similar laptop. Try unplugging the power cord from the outlet and from your computer for about thirty seconds and then plug it back it back in. A:My laptop wont charge!!! =(

It could be the charger, replacements not that expensive (try to stay away from universal adapters, they are often really poor quality)

It could be the DC socket (the hole where you put the charger in) Does it wiggle around a lot when you put the charger in?
has it still got the PIN inside that hole? Does it look damaged?

Also
Try taking the battery out and plugging the charger in - see if that fixes it? It may be a faulty battery causing the issue.

Let me know. I will advise

Well, 2 things come to mind. Either the charger is not working ( do u have a voltmeter that you can use for verification?); or the battery is past it's ability to achieve a full charge. Do either of them sound reasonable?

Hello, Recently i have been having charging problems with my Lenovo Z40-70 laptop. Whenever i try to charge it says: Plugged in, not charging. The only way i can get it to charge is by putting it to conservation mode, though it only keeps it at 55%-60% and i would have to have it charging the whole time or else it will die very fast. I have been researching online but cannot find a solution to this problem. Please help.

I've read a few places on the net that if you don't use/charge a zen for a while that you need to charge it for a long time and reset it and then it should be fine... In my case, I didn't use it for about 6 months, and have had it on charge for about a week, have reset it a few times and its still not working! Every so often it turns on and the creative logo comes up, and then switches off again. A few times its turned on and started 'rebuilding the library' and once it has turned on and a red screen has come up. The little battery symbol is constantly on, and red!

Its a creative zen vision:m 30gb, and I have a mac book!

Has my little fella conked out or is there hope yet? Thanks!

my laptop wont charge in a nut shell.

the battery indicator has 0% remaining, and i have to have it run on mains permanantly, even with the mains plugged into charge the percentrage doesnt change, the AC adapter LED is green with power obviously because its making my laptop run on mains!

the battery itself i have taken out to see if there are any dust obstructions, there is a button on the battery itself and it tells you the charge level, it has 5 led's and it has 1/3/5 all flashing when i press the button.

i have a samsung q35 laptop.

any further questions please ask!

Hi have you tried removing both the ac power and the battery and holding down the power button for 30 to 45 seconds then try booting with just the ac power also see this for further troubleshooting Black Screen Issues and Troubleshooting

My Acer 5920g Laptop WILL NOT charge,

I just received it back from Acer and they said there is no fault. I have 3 different AC adapters (none of which will charge) and two batteries (neither of which will charge). I thought it may have been the plug at the back of the laptop but they say that it is working. I only have a few months left on my extended warranty.

I have wiggled the cord, I have bought new a new battery (which worked until it ran out of charge), two new chargers (one of which worked for one day, the other not at all) and sent it to the manufacturer. The OS is Vista.

Can someone please give me some idea what to do next? I have seen external laptop chargers, but I'm worried it will just be another waste of money. HELP!!!

When you sent it to Acer, did you also send the battery and charger?
