Q: HP Support (Software & Driver download center) lists a new W...

... there is no option to download & install a new BIOS via HP Support Assistant, it does not even mention it. I'm a bit unsure if to proceed now - heard that wrong BIOS updates can be fatal. On the mentioned website (see link below) there is no new BIOS mentioned for Win10 either only for Win 8.1. My current BIOS version is: F.34 Recommended on HP website (see link below) is: F.42 My product version according to seller is: HP Envy 15-K086ng 0714CZ IP http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-envy-15-k000-notebook-pc/6936206/model/7146286#Z7... Should I just stick to the old version? Everything runs fine on Win10 except for a few shutdown issues. On 8.1 I had no issues whatsoever with the F.34 version. Thanks for the advice

I shouldn't have to be jumping through so many hoops just to uninstall a program.  This is driving me crazy and I haven't found an answer online yet.

I need a download link for the version of PowerDVD 12 (Cyberlink) and related apps that are preloaded on the new laptops, but did not find it with the other software and driver downloads. These forums have multiple suggestions for Lenovo download URLs for this software, but the versions are machine-specific and refuse to install. Can you provide the correct version for e560?

Hello everyone, I have a problem that is driving me crazy. I am able to access all my channels when viewing them on my Windows 7 laptop using Media Center. When I hook up a HDMI cable to the laptop and connect it to my TV I get the following error.."display driver error the video playback device does not support playback of protected content". I have updated the video card drivers and this issue still persists. Does anyone have any ideas to solve this. I am using a HDHomerun Prime and this is the only way I have to watch live TV on my TV. Thanks in advance for everyone's help

A:Windows Media Center display driver error the video playback device does not support

"display driver error the video playback device does not support playback of protected content"

Infers the content/media that you are playing is protected and/or the HDCP handshake is not taking place. This is likely a hardware issue. The video chipset (ie: HDMI port) or the TV does not support HDCP.

Try viewing a different channel or content.

I've been having problems for the past couple days trying to download a printer driver from HP. The problrm is that I can access the site, located the driver, but when it comes to the file transport protocal it comes up with a 425 error code that says -can't open data connection. I am a technician and this is the first time that I have encountered this type of error message before when I try to download drivers. Can someone help me with this problem. thanks!

A:Download problem from hp.com driver support page

One of the most common questions I get about FTP has to do with error 425, "Can't open data connection."  This is indeed a protocol level error that is defined in the RFC.  Its meaning is obvious:  the data connection (for a directory listing, upload, or download) was unable to be established. First - the most common solution:  change the active/passive mode settings.  But that might not work, and if it does its only a band-aid covering up the real problem. As I've mentioned in the past, one of the most common reasons that this error occurs is a misconfiguration of the FTP server software itself, related to SSL connections and firewalls, in which the connection tries to establish itself on a bogus ip address.  Read more about FTP SSL through a NAT firewall here, some potential solutions are included. There are other less likely causes, such as:The server is configured to always use the same port for passive mode connections, or the client is configured to always use the same port for active mode connections, although in this case usually the software in question should raise a different error first, but I've seen this happen. In passive mode, the firewall in front of the FTP server doesn't have the correct ports open.  So the server tells the client to connect to ipaddress 1.2.3.4 on port x, but the firewall doesn't allow incoming connections on port x.  Most firewalls are smart enough to open up the port when it sees the PASV respons... A:Programs with support for Jump Lists

Hmm, every programm supports Jump Lists, if you point to the right click list on the superbar. Under pinned every file type that is associated with the pinned application can be linked to. But remember: The file or shortcut must be physicaly present somewhere.

I'm using this with Winamp and WebRadio shortcuts to shoutcast playlists. I simply save a station in my user folder under a subfolder Toolbars/Pinned and drag it to the superbar to pin it. Really handy imho.

hi.
once upon a time, i just read cd-roms and copied onto cd-roms. now, i can not. now, it is only true for dvd's.

the actual hardware that i insert into my computer (ibm laptop) that holds the cd or dvd says it is for cd or dvd.

when i go on to windows xp to look at the device manager for dvd/cd rom drives, i see that i have HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4240N. there is nothing about CD.

is it possible that the cd rom sofware got erased? or is my computer hardware damaged and only can read dvd's now and not cd's?

i just bought a zerox laser printer and can not use it! because when i insert the cd-rom into the drive, i get a message to insert a cd into the driver! but it is in the driver!!!!

how can i get my laptop to read and copy onto cd roms (when i want to with my nero program)??????

thanks!!!!!

A:how to download cd driver software

There's no software that you can download. It's likely that the drive is faulty. A replacement may be in order.

Well at first glance, it looks like you may be having a problem with your Java software. Have you tried to download and reinstall or upgrade your existing installation to see if that clears it up? That would be a good place start. Please post your results.

Hey guys, i have a win2k Domain controller set up as a Print Server, but i need abit of information.

My boss wants me to create a list of all things printed, such as the size, whom printed it, to what printer and the name of the document.

Well, its easy enough to make a spare Event log in event viewer and set it up to only record print events, but problem is, when i export the list to a TXT to print it, i only get the basic stuff, i don't get what i need which is the discription. Which can be found by dbl clicking on one of the print events.

Now i'm wondering if there is a program out there that would just make my life alot easyer, something that would print out nice little reports for my allpowerful boss.
Also, while i'm at it i'll post the rest of my wishlist.

I need a program that can record all the websites visited on the network and that could make a nice little list very similar to the print server list.

If anyone could give me a hand i'd really appreteate it.

A:Virus Total lists malware in software recommended by BC!

This are false positives by the anti-virus. Bleeping Computer's hosted programs for download are trustworthy, safe and malware-free.Certain embedded files that are part of legitimate programs and specialized fix tools may at times be detected by some anti-virus and anti-malware scanners as suspicious, a Risk Tool, Hacking Tool, Potentially Unwanted Program, a possible threat or even Malware (virus/trojan) when that is not the case. This occurs for a variety of reasons to include the tool's compiler, the files it uses, whether files are compressed or packed, what behavior (routines, scripts, etc) it performs, any registry strings it may contain and the type of security engine that was used during the scan. Other legitimate files which may be obfuscated, encrypted or password protected in order to conceal itself so they do not allow access for scanning but often trigger alerts by anti-virus software. When flagged by an anti-virus or security scanner, it's because the program includes features, behavior or files that appear suspicious or which can potentially be used for malicious purposes. Compressed and packed files in particular are often flagged as suspicious by security software because they have difficulty reading what is inside them. These detections do not necessarily mean the file is malicious or a bad program. We have an MSI all-in-one PC with touchscreen. I'm hoping to find a software package to centralize the happenings in our home. I've done some searching, but I don't really know where to start.

We're hoping to find a software package that...
- Checks multiple accounts for new mail
- Present a memo board so we can leave each other short messages
- Track a calendar so we can all add and update appointments
- Warn of upcoming birthdays, chores that are due, garbage day, etc...
- When idle, show photos, a clock, alerts, etc.
- Shopping list
- Works with the touch screen for most functions
- Eventually will control the X10 or ZWave power controllers for lights, etc.

...basically, replacing the whiteboard on our fridge, the calander on the wall, the constant nagging the kids to do their chores, and the lack of communication between us when we set up appointments, etc.

Does anyone know of software that does this? How about some Google search terms that might find some results?

Thanks!

A:Looking for centralized Home software; Memo's, chore lists, calendar..

I doubt you will find a single software package that can do everything you are asking for.

A few questions you should answer:
You have a single "Home PC", not a "Home Server" with multiple client PC's, correct?
Do more than one person need to use this single PC at the same time?
Does everybody log in and use the same Windows user account?
Are there any restrictions for some users such as children, or does everybody have Administrator authority?
Are you looking for a free solution, or are you willing to pay $$$?
Are you willing and capable to put in whatever time and effort is needed to accomplish all this.
MS Office Outlook email client can do a lot of what you want, but it is not free.
Windows Live Mail and Thunderbird are free, but have fewer features and capability.
Some of this might be done with Windows security and permissions, depending on how you are using User accounts and storing data.

You may be able to find a Business or Individual in your area that specializes in Home Automation that can help you, but it will not be free.

I hope I'm wrong and someone knows of a package like you want, but I believe if such a software package exists, it would be well known and used by a LOT of people, including me.

Hope this helps,
David

Tonight I noticed 500MB+ of critical updates (Windows Update), and I have "recommended updates" disabled. The big one was an nVidia driver. But I already have the latest hotfix nvidia driver installed. Since when does Microsoft deliver nVidia drivers as a "critical" update on Win 7/8?

A:Win8.1 lists NV driver as critical update???

I have win8.1 and just checked for updates and didn't get any Nvidia critical driver update. If you install the full Nvidia package it does have network access so maybe that is why. All I install is the actual driver and nothing else. I'm still using 350.12 because I have no need of newer drivers and these are rock solid.

Help and Support Center page needs help. Opens up extremely slow now that a clean install has been done. At one point the H&S Center page would not open. System restore would not work. Defragmenter could not finish all files. Restarting the computer did help. This has been happening since a complete cleanup done to erase, zero, reformat and reinstall all programs needed for normal operation... if there ever is a normal operation. These problems occurred after MS updates and .net Framework installed .NET 1, SP and 2 installed. All items working properly prior to updates and the .NET install. It wasn?t that bad erasing everything, zeroing , reformatting and putting WXP HE back on. That was a lot faster than fishing for much needed help that does not appear to be anywhere around without a substantial fee. Thank you for allowing the post.

It is not a registry problem because app paths are correct and svc service is started...Why isnt the center coming up on screen?

A:about dell support center

Disabling Services does nothing to conserve energy unless you have a ruwaway Process that is hogging your CPU which requires troubleshooting in other ways.

You should keep Win7 fully updated for best security and performance. Optional Updates will help keep your drivers current and can also be trusted and useful.

Use the Win7 firewall with a free lightweight AV like Microsoft Security Essentials or Avast 6.

Hiya

Help and Support Center provides a centralized facility through which
users can obtain assistance on a variety of topics. For instance, it
provides product documentation, assistance in determining hardware
compatibility, access to Windows Update, online help from Microsoft,
and other assistance.

A security vulnerability is present in the Windows XP version of Help
and Support Center, and results because a file intended only for use
by the system is instead available for use by any web page. The
purpose of the file is to enable anonymous upload of hardware
information, with the user's permission, so that Microsoft can
evaluate which devices users are not currently finding device drivers
for. This information is then used to work with hardware vendors and
device teams to improve the quality and quantity of drivers available
in Windows. By design, after attempting to upload an XML file
containing the hardware information, the system deletes it.

An attacker could exploit the vulnerability by constructing a web
page that, when opened, would call the errant function and supply the
name of an existing file or folder as the argument. The attempt to
upload the file or folder would fail, but the file nevertheless would
be deleted. The page could be hosted on a web site in order to attack
users visiting the site, or could be sent as an HTML mail in order to
attack the recipient when it was opened.

Hello there,
Lately support center doesn't want to work, after some seconds a "the application stopped working. windows is looking for a possible solution" message pops up. needless to say, windows never found a solution. I tried uninstalling and doing a clean install of all the dell support suite several times with no luck, i don't have any antivirus on, except windows defender.
I'm trying to run SC version 1.0.665.2 on win 8.1,
I wanted to run a scan because after installing win 10 trial version and going back to win 8.1 my workstation is acting pretty weird (and sloppy).

Hope someone out there can help!

After updating and installing the needed .NET Framwork 1 and 2 plus the .NET SP the HSC page slowed down a lot. Sometimes the page will not open at all. Is there a way to make HSC open up fast like it did after reinstall? The OS is WXP HE SP2

A:Help and Support Center page needs help... detailed

Hi rlmarr

Here's a page over a Kelley's Korner with half-a-dozen tricks for trying to get Help and Support happy again --- note that you'll have to scroll down quite a ways to get to the "Help and Support" category --- http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_h.htm

I think a decent quick-fix try might be to reinstall the .inf file for the Help and Support service - you might or might not need your Windows XP CD (because if you still have your XP SP2 .cabs on your hard drive - which you likely do, if you didn't manually delete them - the files needed will be right there) ---
Go to C:\Windows\inf\pchealth.inf. Right click and choose install.

If your system has a modest amount of system memory (RAM) installed, look in Task Manager (in the "Performance" tab) to see if the amount of physical memory installed isn't enough to cover what is needed by your background processes + your running applications -- this would cause your computer to have to use the page file extensively, and slow things down dramatically from time to time.

Best of luck
. . . Gary

Do a repair install of XP...or run the sfc /scannow command.Chances are your registry cleaner has deleted/damaged some system files that are needed.Bleeping Computer DOES NOT recommend the use of registry cleaners/optimizers for several reasons: Registry cleaners are extremely powerful applications that can damage the registry by using aggressive cleaning routines and cause your computer to become unbootable.

The Windows registry is a central repository (database) for storing configuration data, user settings and machine-dependent settings, and options for the operating system. It contains information and settings for all hardware, software, users, and preferences. Whenever a user makes changes to settings, file associations, system policies, or installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in this repository. The registry is a crucial component because it is where Windows "remembers" all this information, how it works together, how Windows boots the system and what files it uses when it does. The registry is also a vulnerable subsystem, in that relatively small changes done incorrectly can render the system inoperable. For a more detailed explanation, read Understanding The Registry.
Not all registry cleaners are created equal. There are a number of them available but they do not all work entirely the same way. Each vendor uses different criteria as to what constitutes a "bad entry". One cleaner may find entries on your system that will n... Read more

I am very disappointed to know that Windows 8 Media Center would not support Blu-ray. We would need third party software for this. So officially Microsoft is not supporting the Blu-ray format. This is really a disappointment as this shows that Microsoft is somehow moving away from the PCs (desktops/laptops) and going forward with the mobile devices. And the future of desktops and laptops are doomed. As a user of desktop, a few years ago I was looking forward to the Blu-ray era after the DVD era and was hoping that Games, software etc. would would soon be available in the Blu-ray format but it seems that Microsoft has decided to abandon desktops and laptops. Now I wish if there is some alternative OS to Windows!

Windows 8 Media Center does not support Blu-Ray

A:Windows 8 Media Center does not support Blu-Ray! :(

Fees to include blu-ray support in their native player would have been expensive for microsoft, that is why it is not included.

One can download the free media center pack to get native dvd in windows 8.

One can also download free third party player VLC and the associated blu-ray libraries and get support for blu-ray in windows 8.

I have a new Lenovo P50 which was purchased for me by a friend while visiting US. Since the beginning there have been problems with touchpad not working. I took the laptop to Lenovo's authorised service center in Delhi twice, and both times was disappointed because the technician refused to look at the laptop making one excuse or the other. During the first visit, this guy was not sure if P50 was covered under international warrenty in India and wanted me to provide a proof that it was. I got in touch with Lenovo customer support and below is the email response I received.  Hi,

This is in response to your request. We want to inform you that all think products come under IWS. So, your product is also under warranty and you will get services in India.

Your system is having carry in warranty, so please go to service center for any services you required.

Thanks
LenovoI was astonished by this reply, becuase this is something I thought the technician ought to know or could have found out easily without asking me to get this information myself and wasting my entire day. I went to the sevice centre the second time with this email, and this time he drops another set of requirements on me. He wanted the original invoice for the laptop along with a copy of passport of the person whose name is on the invoice, without which he will not even look at the laptop. This laptop was purchased from Amazon US and I had the soft copy of the inovice with me... Hi, I have been having problems with the Help and Support Center. First, the Help and Support service wasn't displaying, but I ran a registry fix to correct the problem. Now when I go to Start and click Help and Support Center, nothing happens. I opened up the task manager and what happens is the process "Helpctr.exe" appears, but then it disappears. I have reinstalled Help and Support several times from my Windows disk, but it keeps happening. Any help would be appreciated. My computer specs are in my profile.

A:BSOD after installing 'dell support center'

The BSOD error message in its entirety would be a good thing and one thought on this and this might solve the problem quicker, since Dell tech support told you to upgrade to the new help center and it went south I am only suggesting this because I have worked in tech support before (not with Dell) I would contact Dell tech support and have the BSOD error message ready for them. The tech support usually has all or most of the solutions for their software handy right there in thier database, and this will solve the problem a lot faster than here.

A few weeks ago I did two updates - one was the Dell Support Center update and the other was an update entitled KB951978. Since then, I'm unable to shut down my computer - I get an error message asking me to end "sprtcmd.exe". I hit "end now", and usually it shuts down OK. In addition, it's taking much longer for web pages to load and applications to run.

I'm scared to uninstall the updates - is it safe to do that? Everything was perfectly fine until then. I saw the other thread with tips on how to do it.

My question is: do I uninstall the Dell Support Center UPDATE or the entire thing itself? I'm afraid to get rid of it altogether.

Also, should I try uninstalling the KB951978 update? I have no idea or comfort level with what that is.

Thanks!

Have Compaq computer and use the Help & Support Center frequently but noticed in the past few months it doesn't work. I go to START>HELP AND SUPPORT then click in the SEARCH section to type in the keyword. It searches and searches consistently but doesn't do anything. Could it be corrupted on my hard drive? How can this be fixed. I went to HP website since they bought out Compaq and can not find any resolutions. Please advise.

A:WinXP Help and Support Center SEARCH problem

RESOLVED ISSUE
Went to HP.com and did a live chat with a rep and had to download a file ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp28501-290000/sp28667.exe. Apparently the original Compaq Help & Support Center file was corrupted due to the Windows SP2. I installed the HP file and it now displays HP not Compaq but at least it works!

In fact, during this year's Build Developer Conference in San Francisco, Microsoft confirmed to ZDNET in a private meeting that there will no Media Center functionality altogether. Microsoft's Gabriel Aul took to Twitter to formally confirm its exclusion from Windows 10 "We can confirm that due to decreased usage, Windows Media Center will not be part of Windows 10."

With me, usually use this software to watch movies and listen music, it's sad news.

A:Microsoft has no plans to support Media Center with Windows 10

It doesn't really affect me since I never used Windows Media Center. If I ever needed a Media Center, I would just take one of my old computer and transform it in a Media Server. However, they are apparently working on something for people that still wants to read DVDs on Windows, so they'll probably propose an alternate program.

when opening the Help and Support Center in WinXP Pro SP2, some of the entries come up in some other language. It's not all of them; in fact, some of them are a mix of whatever this other language is and english... it's weird. Has anyone encountered this? Is there a fix?

It should also be noted that this issue has been reported by users whose machines have been "imaged". Therefore this is not an actual XP install from disc.

A:Help And Support Center Random Entries Show Up In Some Other Language.

This Microsoft article describes a problem where users with Slovak or Slovenian Language Interface Pack for Windows XP have some random English showing up in the Help and Support centre. While it's not the exact problem you are having you could try the fixes suggested.

I bought the notebook last December with 1-year warranty in the US.Now I'm working in Vietnam and my screen is broken. but it isn't covered although I still have 4-month warranty (stated on the Hp support assistant). I have contacted the local support center and they refuse to cover this under warranty even though my notebook still has 4 months until the warranty period ends, unless I submit the original invoice (which I lost 2 months ago) after moving. How can I solve this problem and guarantee my warranty rights?

When I first got my computer I removed the startup entry for Dell Support Center using CrapCleaner...and it didnt start up when I booted up my computer...however, ever since three days ago, Dell Support Center kept popping up even though I repeatedly remove its startup entry...what could be causing this problem? In the first place, is Dell Support Center necessary...should I just uninstall it?

I would

And while you're at it, you can uninstall Norton (usually installed) and install AVG Free instead

Actually you may want to run Startup Control Panel and remove any other not required startup program as well

Okay, this is just weird....
.... phone rings, call display shows up as UNKNOWN, I was expecting another phone survey or something but before I hang up I figure I'd at least see wgo it is. He asks for me by name then says he's from the "Windows Support Center" or something like that. I can tell he's at a call center in India or something, poor phone connection, I can hear other people in the back ground.

He says our computer is sending out error messages every time we're on the web or something like that, might be from a virus or some kinda windows errors. We have 5 computers, I think I'm clever by asking him which one he's talking about and he replies "the one running Windows 7".

Okay, so I'm skeptical, but figure I'll see where this foes.

So he asks me to run EVENTVWR on that computer which brings up a "even viewer: window, he asks me to look under WINDOWS LOGS - APPLICATIONS and read to him what the sources are, he asks me how many there is etc. I tell them there are hundreds, he asks for the sources and gives me some kinda techno talk as to what's causing that error.
Then he asks what the sources are for the ones marked in yellow as a warning, get more techno talk.

Next he asks me to run WWW.SUPPORT.ME which brings up a "support connection" window "powered byLogMeIn ". It asks for a 6 digit code which he gives me. Now I don't know what to expect, for all I know this will ope... Read more

I've got a strange problem I'm having problems troubleshooting. When I search in Help and Support Center, no results are returned for the Microsoft Knowledge Base. I know this worked in the past (though how long ago, I have no idea). The option to search the Knowledge Base is checked. There are no other system problems to indicate corrupt system files. I've searched the web but haven't found anything yet that seems to apply. I'm reluctant to run a full SFC scan or repair the entire Help and Support feature since all other options appear to be working.

A:Dell Support Center - How to change the language to English?

Hi Cacador,
Welcome to the Community. The best way to change the language would be to Uninstall it from Add remove programs, and reinstall it using the below link. When installing select English as your language and then complete the installation.

Help and Support Center provides a centralized facility through
which users can obtain assistance on a variety of topics. For
instance, it provides product documentation, assistance in
determining hardware compatibility, access to Windows Update,
online help from Microsoft, and other assistance. Users and
programs can execute URL links to Help and Support Center by
using the "hcp://" prefix in a URL link instead of "http://".

A security vulnerability is present in the Windows Me version of
Help and Support Center, and results because the URL Handler for
the "hcp://" prefix contains an unchecked buffer.

An attacker could exploit the vulnerability by constructing a URL
that, when clicked on by the user, would execute code of the
attacker's choice in the Local Computer security context. The URL
could be hosted on a web page, or sent directly to the user in
email. In the web based scenario, where a user then clicked on
the URL hosted on a website, an attacker could have the ability
to read or launch files already present on the local machine. In
the case of an e-mail borne attack, if the user was using Outlook
Express 6.0 or Outlook 2002 in their default configurations, or
Outlook 98 or 2000 in conjunction with the Outlook Email Security
Update, then an attack could not be automated and the user would
still need to click on a URL sent in e-mail. However if the user
was not using Outlook Express 6.0 or Outlook 2002 in t... Read more

I have some sensitive material on my computer which I would not like others to see. So, I'd like to know how to exclude some folders and files from lists like recent items, jump lists, etc. Is it possible?

A:How to exclude files and folders from "Recent" lists and jump lists

Welcome to Seven Forums Stawan. It's possible to turn off the recent items in the jumplists of specific programs. But it's a laborious process. I will describe it, but you'll have to do the legwork.

The Jump lists for each program are stored in

C:\Users\(User name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations

as automaticDestination-ms files with random names.

To figure out which file belongs to which program , you'll have to do some detective work.

For instance, you could open a video with your media player program.

Change the AutomaticDestinations folder into Detail view and Sort by Date Modified.

Only one or two of the files should be showing as modified in the past minute. One may be a list of recently viewed folders, the other should be your program.

Delete one of the files then try to open your program's jump list. If it is gone, you have the right file.

Once you have identified the right file, restore it from recycle bin and set the file properties to Read-only. This will disable the jump list for that file. You'll need to do this for all the programs you want to exclude from jump lists.

As you can see, this would be a long and lengthy process, you'd be better off creating a password protected user. Good luck. A Guy

I have 2 questions:
1. Why Microsoft's Netflix App for Windows 10, DOES NOT accept basic commands from their own Microsoft Media Center Remote Control like for example PLAY, PAUSE, FF, etc..?
2. Why Microsoft's Netflix App for Windows 10, DOES NOT support 4K streaming.
I have a super fast computer with a 4K monitor and an Nvidia GTX 1080 GPU.
I could watch Netflix 4K content on my 30" 4K PC Monitor....
Could someone tell Microsoft that they are super outdated....? What the heck are these guys doing. I regret I did not buy an iMac.

Hello

I have a brand new Acer V5 123 which came with windows 8

the internet connection here is slow and cuts out once every hour, A manual reconnect is required to get back online

I have managed, somehow to download the 1.4 GB of required updates and am now trying to install the 3.6GB needed to upgrade to 8.1

this is impossible using the official windows apps store based installer which seems to me in this context to be the worst piece of software I have ever come across it has no details on progress apart from a tiny little grey/green line, no BPS, are displayed and when the connection drops the screen still shows it "downloading" complete with tick

this morning for example when I went to reconnect the download which was who knows, 7% complete (no percentage shown either) it just disappeared When I reloaded the app it started from the beginning..... again agghhhh

I have been using free download manager to get big files, it is brilliant and picks up wherever this flaky internet left it.... it would take some time but would eventually download the upgrade

is it possible to get the web page address and download the windows 8.1 from 8 upgrade this way

I live in hope and thanks in advance for any suggestions

Elizabeth

Welcome to Eight Forums.

Quote from this post: link

Download the Windows 8.1 ISO image file.
Create installation media for Windows 8.1 - Windows Help

In Windows 8, mount the Windows 8.1 ISO image file by right-clicking the ISO image file and choosing Mount. If you don?t see Mount command from the context menu, go to Open with -> Windows Explorer instead.

Run the setup (setup.exe) file (see screenshot below).

Hi, Recently I have not been able to download anything from the Internet. I have searched for solutions but none work, it started when I couldn't open the HP support assistant. I tried installing it again but it wouldn't even show the bar or any signs of installation, this is probably because I reset my Internet options, but I'm not sure. A few days ago I would try to install driver updates on HPSA but it fails at installation. I really need help because I am a gamer and often install things like mods from the Internet and without the assistant or the ability to download updates, I can't keep my computer up-to-date! Any help would be greatly appreciated.    Thanks in advance, SheepDave!

I'm currently experiencing problems downloading the EPG guide in Windows 7 Media Center and Vista Media Center.  Over the last 2-3 weeks, the guide download has stopped working on all of my computers in Vista and 7.The error code is 34 and this is caused when Media Center cannot establish an connection to the internet.I have to connect to the internet via a proxy server/webcache.  I have contacted the network support people and they took network activity captures and identified a problem with Media Center not respecting the proxy/webcache settings in Internet Explorer and hence it cannot download the guide.  Previously, this process has worked perfectly on the network and I am told no changes have been around the time the problem started. This only occurs on a wired network. For the same computer connected via wireless on the same proxy/webcache, the guide sucessfully downloaded and Media Center respected the proxy settings.  There are multiple machines exhibiting this behaviour. Is anyone aware of any changes Microsoft has made to the guide download process over in the last month or so which may have resulted in this sort of behaviour as this appears to be a bug in Media Center.Thankselyoh

A:New EPG download problem in Media Center

 Hi,
If you connect to Internet via proxy, the connection settings in IE is only applied to IE. I suggest that you launch cmd as administrator and run the following command in it to set proxy for all programs.
netsh winhttp set proxy [proxyname]:[port]
If the issue still occurs, I suggest that you temporary disable the anti-virus and firewall. Then check the result again. Arthur Xie - MSFT

The guide has stopped downloading. It would usually download every two weeks, but sometimes sooner. I think it stopped downloading after I had a problem activating my windows. I thought I had activated it, but there was a problem during the activation. A customer rep. solved the problem by generating me a new key and having me restore the computer to my earlist restore point. This took care of the activation problem, but now two weeks later, yhe guide won't download. "A critical media center process has falied. Please restart the computer and try again. If the problem presists, contact your hardware manufacturer for assistance" is the error message I get. Any help from someone with similar problem or just know-how is much appreciated.
