I have an HP Envy Touchsmart 17 inch laptop. The primary problem is the left notebook screen hinge has broken loose at lower case mount. This caused the left side to separate from the upper and lower case.

I bought my envy j115tx 15" touchsmart end of Aug 2014 . Its nearly 4 months old and recently the left hinge on my laptop has dropped out of position and has pushed the back casing of the laptop out, disrupting one of the fans.It has not been dropped. I noticed it had become creeky when opening the lid of the laptop, I can see the back casing popping out when opening the the lid and the Kensington lock is out of alignment (as it pops down with the back casing) Been using HP servers at work and recomended but this is my first HP product for personal use and the hinge design seems to be a serious flaw here. Need a solution guys... have read similar posts about same issue..whats going on?

The screw is lost some where in the laptop, the left corner seperates near the hinge when I open the lid. Laptop just a year old.

It appears that this is a common hardware problem for over two years, based on  the posts.  This is my son's laptop for college, so we have now had to swap out our home Hp Pavilion laptop with him.  We purchased a two year HP warranty, and it just recently expired.  This is our family's seventh HP desktop or laptop.  How is HP dealing with this issue?

Left hinge broke and computer came open! I didn't do anything to cause this to happen. I need to travel with my laptop and I am afraid something bad will happen due to this problem. Opening and closing the broken hinge causes the case to open a little more.

One of the screws that holds my HP Envy 17 - j013cl laptop casing together no longer attaches to anything. It appears that the screw was once attached to a plastic fitting, but now that fitting is broken and the pieces of plastic are loose inside the laptop. When I open the laptop, the casing pulls apart near the hinge. I purchased the factory refurbished laptop in January of this year. How can the laptop be repaired? One source told me that they would have to replace the entire cover ... IF they could find one.  Is this repair covered under warranty? I just found a topic for the same issue with the dv7 "dv7 Left hinge pulling case apart? What the heck!".  It appears that HP have some real widespread problems with the left hinge of their laptop casings!

Help my left hinge is broken like so many others and I'm out of warranty! I just spent 2 hours on the phone with HP only to discover I will be charged $220!! It's clearly a design error since it's happened to literally hundreds of others with this computer! There needs to be a recall it's not fair to have to pay for something that I've never dropped, etc. I've also read where some have gotten theirs repaired free of charge without being covered under warranty

I have had the same situation again actually. It did come off whilst it was in warranty and HP fixed it somehow. Now, again it has come off from the same place. Not sure how to fix it? What all does it need to be fixed? I understood from different sources that I need back cover and some sort of front panel. Please guide me. Thanks.

Very frustrated with this...I opened the laptop gently as I would always do  and the hinge on the left side of the laptop just snapped and popped out of the plastic monitor frame.  The design of the hinges are just terrible and i can now see how they work because the case has been damaged just from opening and closing the laptop.  I can now see inside the whole left side of the case.  To top it off I have already invested considerable time into upgrading the OS to Windows 10 and customizing and installing software on this laptop. I cannot close my laptop entirely since the screen closes on an incorrect angle. Since I am out of warranty, is there any way to fix this problem? After reading several posts, it seems to be a common problem with the envy models.

I've seen some similar posts for slightly older laptops, but I've got a hinge issue with my g7 2240us, bought in December 2014. The left hinge seems to have come loose, and a tab with a screw that is part of the hinge now pushes up on the casing of the laptop about half an inch high.  Not to mention the laptop will not fully close.  Any suggestions?

I purchased a HP Pavillion G7-2246NR Laptop with a 17.3 inch screen from Office Depot on Nov. 26, 2012.
 
The computer worked great until about a month ago when the left hinge seemed to be coming loose.  All I use this computer for is to surf the net at night while we watch TV so it rarely gets used.
 
Now the hinge has completely came out of the case and it has apparently  caused damage to the power button.  The computer will not power up at all.
 
I certainly believe this computer that I rarely use should have lasted more than a year and a half.  Is there a recall or some sort of free repair for these clearly defective units?

Hello @SFKervin , Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand the hinge has broken on your notebook and it no longer turns on. It's possible that the chassis has separated preventing the power button from making contact with the power button board below. The simplest solution would be to replace the hinge. You can find detailed instructions on how to replace the hinge here: HP Pavilion g7 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide on page 57. You can order a replacement display hinge kit by searching the part number 682746-001 and the display hinge covers with part number 682747-001 (if needed) online from many retailers like Amazon, eBay, or the HP Part Surfer web store. Regarding any recalls you can see a list of active recalls for HP on the following website: Replacement programs and product recalls. Hopefully this helps!

I had purchased this laptop, HP Envy M6-1090ee in August 2012. Soon after my warranty expired, the left hinge of the laptop started cracked and the screen frame too were affected because of this. Since I had to move between countries for short periods, I couldn't do anything about it. Until June 2014, when I contacted the HP service centre. After quite a few discussions regarding this issue, they decide to repair it for me. The repair was done and the machine didn't have any issue for a year. After which the same issue started cropping up. I have a HP case ID no. for the last service, that was given for the last repair. Any assistance regarding this will be highly appreciated and of a great help. Thank youAlex Robert

In 2012 my mother and I both purchased the HP Pavillion g7 17.3 in screen laptops at different times. She purchased hers from Office Depot and I purchased mine from Walmart. About 2 months ago her laptop stopped closing properly and we noticed that the left hinge had dislodged from its intended position. A few weeks later her screen started to go out as well. We replaced the top cover and fixed the hinge but the screen is still unresponsive.  Two days ago, I noticed that my laptop started having the same problem and I find it very odd that both computers purchased from different locations and same "Pavillion g7" have the same casing malfunction. I have done a lot of research on this issue and there have been quite a few people with the same issue with their computers. Why has there not been a recall on this issue or at least HP should offer customers replacement parts for the known problem. I am very disappointed because I have always had HP laptops and printers but if the quality of these products are like this now, I may have to switch to a different brand. I hope someone can figure out what is going on and help with this situation.  Thanks

The left hinge casing on my laptop came off and was lost, and the black, plastic case for the screen is cracked and seperates from the screen when closing and opening the laptop. If there is a fix, I need it to be done quickly (I will pay for expedited shipping). I'm not sure if I have a warrantee on the laptop, it was a gift. The laptop is an envy m6. I have had my laptop for just over a year and I have never transported it anywhere, as I just leave it on my desk. However, when I opened up my laptop today, the left hinge came off loose. Now the left corner of the screen is very loose from the screen border. Would HP be able to fix it, even though the warranty for this laptop has just finished 2 months ago? I am concerned, because I haven't done anything to it and it was very sudden. I'm pretty sure that it's a manufacture fault and this is an issue. The product has become unfit for purpose, because I can't close it and take it with me anywhere now.  I would like to hear back from someone. Thanks

The right hinge broke on my ENVY m6. Now the left one is about to go. The waranty is up and I have noticed that this is a common problem with this product. I should hope that there has been a recall on this. HP should at least repair the issue free of charge (waranty or no waranty). I take great care of my things and my computer is no exception. Please give me advice on this one. I am extremely disappointed at this point.

Hello I have a V series laptop, V5-571-53334G50Makk to be specific and since recently the left hinge was loose and whenever I open the laptop, it was wide open(kept on increasing as I tilt the screen) now the gap has widened. My left display hinge is also acting up and the left corner seems to be coming apart from the force being applied by the hinge especially as the display is hinged down to its closed position.  I've been suspecting something was weird for some time now but recently I'm afraid it will break soon, what can be done?  My laptop is out of warranty (bought from Costco) but otherwise is in perfect condition and I use it daily.  It is crazy this is happening.

Left hinge issue - the very same I have been reading about in this blog. I purchased my beloved laptop in August of 2013, it is NOT a refurbished item ; it is the Beats Audio version.This is the second time this has happened to my laptop, the first time was about 1.5 years ago. An excellent service technician at Future Shop was able to take the back off to find the tiny screw that had worked its way out, there wasn't even a charge for the service. I miss this technician, she was the best one I have ever dealt with.Before this issue my warranty was coming up so I took it in for a tune up. I mentioned I was having issues with the sound; I thought it was a software issue, it wasn't. They ended up sending it back to HP, the motherboard was replaced.Now the left hinge is gone again, this time I am told that HP doesn't have replacement parts as now small pieces have broken off inside. My option is to have it glued with no guarantee.I NEED my laptop. I can't afford a new one as I graduated from college a few months ago with no job yet. What are my options; can I have another one built from the good parts?

I have a HP m6-n010DX ENVY TouchSmart 15.6 Inch Touch Screen Laptop and I take great care of it.  However, as I was opening it the other day, the hinge on the left side pushed the bottom case and broke the screw hole.  Now everytime that I open it, it pushes the bottom case.  I beleive the hinge and the case are both defective and I have seen a lot of complaints on this.  This is no longer under warranty, and I was wonding if there was a product recall for this factory defect?

Extremely frustrated! I have had the pavilion laptop for a couple of years now, so warranty has expired but soon after I started having issues with the left hand hinge. it has gotten to the point where the entire laptop case has cracked open. I cannot find a proper technician to fix the hinge.....each one just makes a bigger mess of things.The laptop (otherwise) is still in great working condition, thus it will not be viable for me to replace.Could you please advise on a proper technician who will use genuine hp parts to fix the hinge and case?

The left Hinge on my HP Envy has become loose; this poses a problem when opening/closing the lid as it grinds against the casing.  I've had a lot of difficulty navigating HP's Customer support website.  I travel a lot with this laptop and despite treating it with great care the hinge has come loose/broken (from what I understand has become a common problem).  I am out of the warranty and was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a few repair options.  I like HP, I find this whole issue disheartening.   Thank you for any help you can give.

After two years of use the left Hinge on my HP Envy broke.  Where does one get it fixed and is it fixable?  It seems to interfer with the usage if one moves the lid back and forth.  Is it connected to hardware that will evenutally shut my computer down?  I would rather be able to take it a part and put a replacement hinge instead of sending it away?

Like many others have experienced/posted, the left hinge on my pavilion has bulged and cracked the casing. I take care of my laptops and have not dropped it at any time. I first noticed the hinge problem last night, and I can now no longer open the laptop with hearing a grinding sound. This laptop is 2-3 years old and no longer under any warranties. I'm a student and cannot afford the $250+ repairs. Is hp doing anything about this common problem?

I have the same problem documented in the thread: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Pavilion-g6-Broken-Left-Hinge/t... There isn't an option to post a reply to that thread. The left hinge of my Pavillion G6 broke like quite a number of other G6s.  When opening the laptop, the display works in some positions.  In other positions, the display is completely white.  The laptop top and bottom separate a bit while opening the laptop. Was there a recall for this problem as there are quite a number of incidences of the left hinge breaking under normal usage?

As many have posed before, the left hinge on my laptop has broken and the metal top of my laptop base has separated from the plastic back with light wear and tear.  I wonder what solutions HP sends to everyone who poses this question as the answer is never posted publicly.

I also have a broken left hinge on my HP Pavilion 17.3 which I purchased a little over 3 year ago. I had it fixed 2013 and it seemed ok, but now it cracks again on the xact same place.Now the screen went white again :-( Based on all the other similar problems, this should be fixed by HP in my opinion.

My left hinge has broken and is slowly pulling the computer apart everytime I open it.  Small peices of plastice are breaking off as a result.  This computer has been treated very well and has never been dropped.  I read that this is a common problem.  How do I go about getting it fixed?

i have had this laptop for just over 2 years now. i can't remember when this problem started because at first it was hardly noticeable, but for at least a few months now i have been having issues with my the left hinge/corner on my laptop. apparently this is a pretty common problem among many acer models. at first it seemed as though the hinge had gotten slightly out of place and would need to kind of pop back in every once in a while as i opened or closed the lid. i wasn't worried about it until a several weeks passed and it was happening every single time i opened or closed the lid. when i turned the laptop around so i had a better look at the hinge, i saw that the 2 plastic pieces that hold the laptop together were actually splitting apart in the corner. this has only gotten worse over time--the gap between the pieces keeps getting wider and the split travels further. i think it's inevitable that pretty soon the power adapter is going to shift out of place because of this and i won't be able to charge the laptop, rendering it useless. is there anything i can do to fix this other than replacing the lid/hinges? i feel like even if i get the parts replaced, the same thing is just going to start happening again eventually. should i just go ahead and start saving for a new laptop (NOT another acer)?

Hello.

I have an Asus X56TA laptop. It worked like a charm until yesterday, when suddenly, without any warnings, my left hinge just broke off when I was closing the screen.

It seems that the hinge just got _completely_ stuck. Really, like it was made of solid concrete. So when the screen worked as a lever, it easily broke off.

To illustrate my problem, here are some pictures:


Anyone has any tips what to do with this? Is there any chance of making the hinge work again? If yes, I thought of using some very powerful glue to "repair" the hinge. The plastic cover is 100% OK, so I only need some usability

I also found a brand new hinge for my notebook model on eBay. Is it possible to remove the broken hinge and install the new one?

Exactly the same problem as before - all working great then on opening the top cover (screen) the left hand hinge seems to have failed causing the bezel, screen and top cover to become separated from each other. HP were contacted and arranged collection, repair and re-delivery.Shame this has happened again but hopefully HP can address my issue again soon.Regards

My left hinge is broken I am guessing by reading other complaints? I have had this laptop for a little over a year and have never mishandled it in and kind of way. Now it will not turn on because it is saying problems with the fan because everytime I open it the bottom pops off. I tried to email HP but they would not reply because my warranty was up August 15th. I was wondering how much it would cost for HP to fix it? Or the Geek Squad with Best Buy? I need it fixed as soon as possible! It is my school laptop.

I have a dv7 that is very rarely used (I think I purchased it in 2012).  I noticed recently that my hinges are making a lot of noise/struggling. Tonight I realized that the left hinge is completely busted and pulling the casing apart.  The laptop is clearly out of warranty, so I'm guessing I have no recourse.  I came upon another thread on this forum where HP was fixing the problem on other dv7's, but I'm not sure if those people were still in warranty or not. Any help or advice? Thanks!

I would like to know the steps i need to take to repair the case on my HP Laptop that tends to separate at the left hinge when the laptop is opened to view the screen.  I can also hear some thing rattling around inside when the case is closed and it is tilted from side to side.  Also, a very small nut showed up on the table under the left hinge along with a small plastic piece.  Thanks for your time and help.

I recently on 8/2014  purchased a HP envy for my son who just started college, He has been using the laptop gently and has had no falls or intentiontally caused physical damage to it.  A few months ago , the hinge and the part of the case attached t the left hinge broke and he is very disappointed.  I have used HP products for a long time and thought this will be a good tiime to introduce them to him, but he is very disappointed and so am I.  After research, I realize this is a know problem and many other users have had issues.  The laptop is still functional as long as it is left open. Please helpThank you.

HI:  I saw one topic in the forum about complaining this type of laptop left hinge broken issue, many customers like me had same problem. i bought my laptop from microsoft store directly almost 3 years ago, my wife used it at home without moving most of time  and not opening/closing quite offten, just 2 months ago, my wife changed job and needed to carry the laptop between home and office, then only 2 months past, this laptop was broken on left higne, she was really connerced laptop would not work anymore one day when opening it.  what a bad hardware quality it is! based on many people had same issue, almost for sure, it belongs to kind of design or product defective, should be recalled.  i post pictures to show where issue is and my laptop info. hopefully i could be treated as HP customer thanksym3017

I have the same problem as many others on the forum-the left side hinge broke in normal usage.   The laptop is out of warranty by 8 months.  I called HP support and was informed there is no recall.  This is my wife's latpop that she uses for many hours each day.   Is there any assistance available from HP?  I am sure this is a manufacturing defect. Regards,

Had to take apart my laptop last night. Found the left hinge had broken away from the plastic. Found a number of threads about this exact topic. I have been pleased with my HP...it started making a creaking noise on the left side when I would open and close it...pieces of the hinge started to fall off...now the wires are exposed and the screen is separating from the cover...The computer works fine but will not close...I wonder if the exposure to these wires and the separation of the screen from the cover creates a hazard.  I understand that there is a design flaw and that many of these computers have broken...I have bought 3 HP computers and have been pleased with them...I love the one I have now and do not want to lose it...If the design is faulty why should I have to pay for your mistake...I ask you to please correct this flaw and repair my computer.  I bought it in good faith and hope that you will stand behind your product...I have pictures of the damage if you would like to see...Please help

I've got a HP Envy 17 J171sa touchsmart laptop. It is just 2 months out of the the 2 year warranty and now the left hinge is making a cracking noise when opening and pushes the bottom of the casing open. This laptop has already had to go back under warranty twice, once when it was 2 months old for a new motherboard and then 5 months ago a white spot appeared on the bottom left side of the screen and had to have a replacement screen, now this. I expected better quality from HP especially when it was nearly 1,000 to purchase the laptop. I've looked after this laptop and been very careful with it, only opened and closed once a day and would not expect this to happen. Very disappointed.

As has happened with many other people, the left hinge on my laptop is breaking loose.  I just dumped out a bunch of loose plastic chips that were rattling around inside.  I have to hold the bottom half of the case closed to keep the hinge from prying the case open when closing the laptop.  The right hinge seems OK so far.  I assume I need to get this fixed...

Hello! I have an out of warranty Pavilion g6-2342dx notebook that also has a broken left hinge. 2 days ago the display quit working. The system boots up normally, but no display.I attached an HP s2031 monitor via the secondary monitor output cable and the note book seems to be working as it should.As it is the left hinge which is broken, could the display power connection have come loose/undone? I don't really want to tear into it without some prior advice...   The warranty expired 3 May 2014, but I have noticed many other people have experienced a problem with this hinge. Is there some way that HP can "help out" and perhaps "extend" the warranty for this issue?  Any advice or tips you can give will be greatly appreciated! Thank you,Larry

Had this laptop for 1 year and 5 months, the other day my left hinge just started poping out when I open and close it. It looks and sounds bad, though I can pop it back in, I have a bad feeling it's going to get worse and the other side may start. Of course my warranty just expired 5 months ago, and I've heard other reports of this so I hope I can get this fixed for free since it seems to be a HP design flaw. I use my laptop as a desktop really so I use the HDMI and only used the actual screena  few times, I lift is just enough to hit the power button, but this still happened. I'm not sure how to go about this since HP keeps trying to charge people for this fix. Thanks!

The left hinge is broken on my HP Envy 17" Touchsmart notebook.  The bottom plastic casing is also coming away. It is hard to open and close the laptop without causing more problems and I'm worried about the screen cracking.  My local tech service has been trying to source replacement parts, but has found none available. They have identified that this is a common problem with this model, and I see there are hundreds of postings with the same problem.  Please could you help?

I bought HP over Acer, Lenovo and Asus because i believed that the one thing that HP offers each time, is exquisite build quality. However, today I was met with a nasty surprise. The left hinge (one near the power button) has seemingly come undone, as if on its own.  Surprised as I was, I contacted technical support. Surprise Surprise, my warranty information is wrong. Ive lost out on half an years warranty services.  FLASH BACK: DUBAI - Notebook bought on the 3rd of Feb, 13 - High hopes.SKIP TO PRESENT: INDIA - Broken hinge and warranty lost. So I took a deep breath, and opened up the trusty HPSA again, informing the specialist about my "mistaken date of purchase" (note, I am in India at the time). I am informed by the technician that i have to "contact the HP tech assistance in UAE to rectify the issue." STRIKE ONE. So, everyone knows how "good" the waranty services in India are. I remember having an old all in one HP printer. The printer malfunctioned, so we took it to the closest "Authorised" HP service centre. The first day we went, we werent given any "service". The next day we went, they claimed NOTHING under the warranty covers it. They could be right, but oh well, we paid for rectification. So now I'm feeling like its going to be a repeat of the last time. After just 21 months ownership the left hinge on my Aspire M-581PTG laptop snapped. The laptop has been well cared for. To avoid damage to the screen we have not been able to use the laptop. This happened over 6 months ago. Acer help desk were not helpful. "Send us the computer and we will do diagnostics on it for GBP 80". With the help of a local independent computer repairer, we worked out the hinge part which needs to be replaced. However, our suppplier has had this part on order since May. There is no clarity from Acer as to why the part is not available and when or if it will become available. Reading other posts in this forum, I see that this hinge fracture problem is not uncommon. I'm distinctly unimpressed with Acer quality and lack of service. Need to get a new laptop and it certainly won't be an ACER.

Bought my expensive laptop in 2014 and just over a year the left hinge started breaking. Its a sparingly used laptop and now seems to pull away at the bottom panel if I try to open or close the display . The left hinge is prying the bottom panel.I am worried the laptop will break if I try using it anymore. I bought hp paviliong g6-2016tx laptop in the year 2012 and with an year additional warranty , the warranty ended in 2014-aug/sepetember recently i observed that the left hinge and the connecting base cover of the laptop got broken and getting seperated, when i searched the net its a most occuring problem for hp pavilion g6/dv6/envy/probooks if i would have known this issue well before purchase i would have stayed away from hp, previously i had dell notebook , which is top notch in build quality compared to this cheap glossy plastic,i paid 45 k inr for this thing which seriously looks cheap build, when the problem is occuring repeatedly in lot of ur notebook models that too the same problem , why hp hasnt done anythign like replacement/fixing of such things at free of cost even though warranty got expired, because seriously its a manufacturing/assembly design line defect, being a mechanical engineer iam sure about it,  you being a BIGGER corporation with good reputation,  you should have addressed  this issue well before, check or google it out , you will know about this problem with your hp notebooks especially the broken left hinge , everybody is complaining about the same but there is no official announcement from your hp side, i decided to stay away from HP next time, thank god i thought of buying hp stream series i got saved!! goodbye hp

 Hello,The left hand hinge of the notebook is broken and is not functioning.  I cannot close the lid.  The case bottom has separated from the notebook in the bottom left corner of the notebook.  please help.Thanks

Some time ago, I noticed my left hinge wasn't working correctly. I began to split the computer apart while opening and closing. I've seen this is a pretty wide-spread issue with this model and i'd like to know what can be done. I've just been keeping it open, as to not make it completley unusable, but that's not a real solution.Thanks for your help!

I have bought this laptop with high configuration in Nov 2013, on March 2014 I found the Left Hinge broken, I keep on using for some time then keep using with external monitor, now i wanted to get it fixed, and noone fixing it saying no parts available, please help me to fix it.

My left hinge has split open my laptop case! Is HP still not acknowledging this to be a design flaw in almost every ENVY series laptop? This laptop was well over $1000 dollars and splits apart only months after the warranty expires? What is HP going to do to make this right? The first search suggestion on Google is "HP Envy Broken Hinge"   - whats that tell us? Thanks in advance...

I have had this laptop for approximately a year now, and noticed a while ago that the left hinge seemed to be sitting a bit lower than the right hinge when the laptop is open.  Not too long after, the issue got worse and more obvious as the case now separates whenever the hinge is used. The case closes up again once the laptop is shut.  I have noticed that some of the plastic inside has broken and screws have come loose, as I can occasionally hear fragments being tossed around by the fan.  Some small screws and small pieces of plastic have even fallen out of the side of the laptop by turning it on its side while the casing is separated.  This makes me wish I hadn't strayed from Lenovo's laptops... Would HP be able to fix/replace this for me?  How long would it take?  How much would it cost, if anything? Thanks!

We have the HP 15 Notebook PC and the hinge cracked on this device also making the entire frame come apart.  We cannot lose it correctly either. Is there a case we can buy to fix this?

My Spectre x360 has a loose hinge and some times when I move my screen to the back I feel like the left hinge is go to the back. I bought my Spectre x360 from the middle east but I live in the United States and I called the customer service and they told me that they can't help me because I did not buy me laptop from the U.S.  and they told me that I should call the middle east customer service. So I called the Saudi Arabia customer support and they told me that I should be in Saudi Arabia to get help, and the problem is that I am not going back to Saudi untile the end of 2017, is there anything you could help me with to get my laptop fix ?

The left side hinge on my touch enables Inspiron 15 (5558) is broken.  When I opened the device on my desk, it made a cracking sound and the case-lid seemed to seperate from the screen assembly. According to the tag on the bottom, it's under warranty until December 20th this year.  How do I go about getting this repaired?  I can not move the screen at this point.  I have it in an open position, but if I'm very gentle and use many hands, I could get it closed.  Any help would be appreciated.

My HP has had a hinge failure.  I purchased it less than a year ago and it has been giving my problems for a few months now. When you open or close the lid, the bottom casing literally splits apart. There is some broken plastic piece inside. I would really hope there is a resolution for this? Thanks,  Laceb

My Acer Aspire M left hinge is broken causing the screen as well as the computer to come apart. Any time I open or adjust the screen it cracks and breaks apart. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

I've noticed a few posts on this issue (lenovo Y50-70 touch screen hinge breaking).  I bought my laptop via Amazon in July 2015 so it should still be under warranty (even though the tech support website says it is not....it also thinks that the warranty started in January 2015).  I, however, have had zero success with contacting technical support for help (I talked to a representative on the phone; she couldn't help me but said I would be called withing 48 hours.  It has now been 168 hours and I've received no phone call; I also submitted a request via the web 72 hours ago and have received nothing.  And I can't get anywhere with the online "contact us" since it won't recognize the serial number of my machine).  Anyone have a phone number or other suggestions?  At this point, I'm very frustratred with (a) the product and (b) the technical support from Lenovo.

My wife's Envy m7-n109dx touchscreen laptop has a broken hinge on the left side.  Just happened on 9/21/16.  Product # is M1W11UA#ABA.  I have the same model but no issues yet.  She takes great care of it because of the cost. Never been dropped or mishandled.    She went to open the cover and heard an unusual creak and when she closed it she heard a snap.  We bought ours on 2/8/16 so still under warranty.  Any one else have the same issue?  Online research shows that other models of Envy laptops having the same issue.

Hi, I have a HP envy 17-j141na which still has extended warranty cover. The left hinge internal mountinghas just crumbled inside the case and the bottom cover has come away. I have just found out this seems to be a common problem.What do I need to do to get the hinge repaired? I can not use the laptop as the screen is loose and the bottom panel will become damaged. Thank you for your help

First, I LOVE Hp laptops!!! Being the one that buys all the Electronics for my household.  We currently we have five, everyone has a HP laptop. But my HP ENVY TouchSmart 17-j140us  The hinge just snaps and pops every time you open the laptop and now the case Is coming apart no mater how carefully I try to  Open It   I paid over $1000 for a glorified paperweight.  Its only 18 months old!!!!! After doing a search on the internet this must be a known Issue with this laptop case design ,   Thank you for your time, The Dimmer fammily U.S. Army attive duty.
