Dell Vostro 1510 laptop with Windows 7 Pro 64bit.

I noticed svchost.exe was using 100% of CPU.

I did the following that did NOTresolve the issue:

1. I installed a new hard drive (W7)

2. I went to task manager / processes / "show processes from all users" / and attempted to stop all the related services, approximately 8. 4 of them stopped and no improvement. The other 4 would not let me stop them.

3. I've been reading Dell, and several other related sites, found many causes/solutions, tried them all but haven't resolved it.

4. I removed fan and cleaned out all dust. Fan runs fine. Thermal paste is good.

5. Installed CPUID HW MONITOR and cpu is not running hot. it's at 76 celsius (67 - 85 is the acceptable range)

6. Ran malwarebytes, custom scan. Nothing found.

7. Ran Avast boot time scan, nothing found.

*** The strangest thing is that my Bios version is A12. I downloaded A13 and A15 from When I attempt the Bios flash I get an error message that the "winphlash sw tool by phoenix tech cannot load driver. This driver has been blocked error code 1275. Confirm you have administrator priveledges". ***

- Therefore, is there a glitch/virus in the Bios causing this? Or is it unrelated and something else is causing it?

Thanks in advance!

Okay I recently tried to update my bios on a GA-K8NS mobo. I used the bios update program that gigabyte has so I am pretty sure that I installed the correct update. After the install the system restarted and then said CMOS error press F10 to continue or DEL to enter setup. I entered setup and flashed the bios to the original settings (I made a copy to a floppy before update). The system restarted fine with the old bios. What is this error and how do I fix it?

SYS FAN SPEED problem the CMOS error fixed and BIOS is updated. I installed a hardware monitor that came with the mobo and it keeps saying "warning sys fan rpm."
I looked at the fan speeds and they are:
SYS FAN = 1739 RPM
CPU FAN = 3750 RPM
CPU temp = 40C
I am new at all of this and do not know what to do. Does everything look alright? Is the program just screwed up? If there is something wrong how should I fix it?
Thanks for all the help...

I bought a second hand Satellite Pro M30. This one has the 1.30 Bios ... I would like to install the v1.70 bios.

I'm running Windows XP Pro SP3 and I tried first to update within Windows.
I got however the message "the user is not authorized to update BIOS".

This message is quite surprising since I have admnistrator privileges.

I read that one can use a diskette to update, but I don't have one ...

So, Is there a way to update the Bios with CD ?

A:Satellite Pro M30 - Error message: User is not authorized to update BIOS

I checked the Toshiba European driver page and found the BIOS 1.7 WIN version in the ARCHIVE area.

As you can see it's a BIOS Windows version and not a traditional BIOS version (trad BIOS can be updated using the diskette).
This Win BIOS can be upgraded only from running Win OS.

Anyway, I see you have installed the SP3. This could have a bad influence on the BIOS update.
So maybe you should try to update the BIOS without installed SP3?

Remove the SP3, download the right BIOS, unzip it correctly and then try to execute the BIOS update file.

_PS: If you notebook runs trouble free then a BIOS update is not necessary!!!_

Hello all, this is my first time posting here so please forgive any mistakes/oversights. I've just updated my Samsung laptop's system BIOS via their software update program, and my Nvidia GPU (GT 650m DDR3) no longer seems to work. The Nvidia control panel is still there, and it still gives me the option to select which programs use the GPU, but there is no GPU actitivity showing up. Also,I've tried playing Skyrim (which auto-detects the PC's graphics cards) , and the game no longer seems to detect the Nvidia GPU (just the Intel integrated graphics).

My laptop model is NP550PC7, with 6 gig of ram, and an i7 quad core CPU, and the OS is Window 7 Home Premium 64bit.

I've tried looking in the BIOS but I can't seem to find anything related to the GPU or display options. Any help or avice is much appreciated.

A:Problems with Nvidia gpu post BIOS system BIOS update.

Have you updated your GPU with the latest drivers?

Please navigate to:

Start> Control panel> Swith to icon view> device manager.
Look under "Display Adapters"

Is the Nvidia GPU listed there? If so are there any yellow symbols etc?

Hello to the BleepingComputer community,First of all I'm sorry I haven't finished some of the steps from the Preparation Guide. It's because these steps require a reboot (e.g. Step 6: Disable your CD Emulation Software - DeFogger will ask me to reboot the machine), and I have a bad feeling about the question if it is safe to reboot in my situation: I'm not sure if I have a type of malware which is ready to infect the BIOS - if it is so, then it could infect it much easier during the reboot process.- If there is a good way to find out what is the problem (and fix the BIOS threat part if it really is present) without rebooting / shutting down this PC, or at least without booting from this hard drive (which I feel is probably infected), then please tell me what should I do.- If you know a place / forum where I can get a specialized help for this (seemingly BIOS-malware related) situation, please tell me where I could go.- If there is no way to move forward, I'll go ahead and risk the reboot, and follow the other steps (steps 6 to 10) in the Preparation Guide, no problem.I kindly ask you to please read below the details of the problem as it occured to me, and the things I have tried so far.The PC is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core BE-2350 2.1GHz, Motherboard Biostar TA690G AM2 (with AWARD BIOS), 4GB RAM, 200GB SATA HDD, and an ASUS EAH4870 card added a few years ago. It's with WinXP SP3, AVG Free 2012, (standard) Windows Firewall, and it's behind a router.I ... I have, or had a laptop purchased 9 months ago, therefore under warranty. Yesterday the ThinkVantage System Update recommended a BIOS update. After the traditional recommendations about what should not shut down the computer, the laptop is reset and started with the update.

During execution, displayed on a screen command, a message "ERROR XXXX. Press any key to continue." After press the key the laptop was freezedy was completely blocked. After an hour without seeing response and no sign of life, I decided to turn it off to confirm the disaster. The laptop was dead.

The laptop began to beep and would not start. Before the panic generated by the situation, I searched the forums where I found several cases that refer to the same problem and the insinuation that makes LENOVO about the customer's responsibility to avoid recognizing the warranty.

I was not looking for a BIOS update, it was recommended by ThinkVantage System Update, the software executed it and damage the equipment.

Besides being a damage caused by the ThinkVantage System Update, the situation gets worse when the answer given by support insinuates that the customer turn off the computer, so it is a CID (Customer Induced Damage) and therefore the guarantee does not cover it. I do not understand how LENOVO may imply that the responsibility of the customer. Really disastrous.

In conclusion, if you are not needing to make a BIOS update, it is preferable to omit the BIOS update messages given to ThinkVantage System... Read more

I have an Optiplex 9010 AIO. This morning I was trying to update the BIOS of my system, from A10 to A13. During the update process it showed an error: "ME FW Update Failed: Internal error: FWU_Buffer " - please see the photo below. Although the update failed on the Management Engine part, it still boots up and running OK. I tried couple of times to update the BIOS, and each time I got the same error. I tried to flash the A12 and A11 BIOS as well, A12 gives same error, and A11 has the same Management Engine version hence no use.
Any help on this is very much appreciated!

Anyway, He said that it didn't need a bios update, even the Samsung website said this computer needed a bios update. I posted this on hardware, firmware concerns, and they told me to post here, I was going to go to a site ,that had a download that checked drivers, I was told to stay away from this.

I have had my Dell 8700 for little over a year and have had problems from the beginning.  I am 72 years old, and I am at my wits end!!!

A hard drive was replaced in the summer of 2015, but I have still had problems with the computer shutting down and my having to refresh it to factory setting.

I thought updating to Windows 10 would solve some problems, and I did this in October, 2015.  Everything was fine until a couple of months ago.  The end result was when I tried to refresh the computer to factory defaults, it went back to 8.0 or 8.1, and I evidently lost something in the process.
Now, I cannot update to Windows 10 and when I tried to resinstall the Dell Operating System, I get for both:  "WE COULDN'T UPDATE THE SYSTEM RESERVED PARTITION."
I DO HAVE A SYSTEM BACKUP ON 20 CDS (MADE WHEN I HAD WINDOWS 10).  Could I reinstall the system with these backupdisks?  How do I do that?  I also have a Dell 2 Boot USP stick, I have a recovery stick, too, but it semed that when I used this, I received a message that not all files were recovered
What should I do at this point?

A:Error message when trying to update to Windows 10 or to reinstall operating system 8.1: We couldn't update the system reserved partition."

On MBR disk, Windows 10 requires a 500MB system reserved partition, while 100MB in Windows 7, so you can try to extend system reserved partition.
In disk management, you can only extend partition using the unallocated space next to its right side. so even if you shrink D: drive, the option to extend the efi partition is still grayed out. My suggestion is to use a third party software, AOMEI Partition Assistant, both the standard (free) or the Professional(paid) version can extend partition as long as there is unallocated space on that hard drive. to see more information read:

Hi everyone. So I got a pop-up telling me there's a new Lenovo update I'd be required to install. So I followed the instructions, it contained a BIOS update, all fine, I finish the installation and afterwards, everything runs fine except that in the bottom task bar, my battery icon shows an empty battery with the power supply icon. When mouse hovering over it, it tells me "plugged in, not charging". When unplugging the AC, the laptop immediately shuts down. In the energy options, however, it says 100% charged.I searched for this topic and found none with the exact same problem, fixes where I can switch the battery preserve mode on and off only apply to anything up to windows 8.1 whereas I have windows 10 and everyone with windows 10 only seemed to be wondering what the message was without having the problem that it does not load an empty (or perceived as empty) battery. So, as I would like to rely on the battery and not only on constant power supply from time to time...Help please?

I have compaq cq60 laptop and using windows 7 ultimate 32bit. Well I have checked hp drivers & software support website and there is update available. Well now BIOS version F.32 and F.65 is now available. I want to know If I updates so wouldn't it harm or damage my windows file and personal. What will be changes made after this. Anxiously waiting for the response.

A:System BIOS update is available.

BEFORE you make any changes, you should look through the BIOS utilities and confirm there is a way to (1) save off the current working BIOS, and (2) restore from that saved BIOS if the update goes badly. Updating a BIOS is always risky -- as I found out when I did a routine update to my Gigabyte board and it crashed. Since I was able to restore it from the saved BIOS, I was OK.

The BIOS won't do anything to Windows or any of its files, but if it fails for some reason, you will not be able boot your PC at all. So, it's very important to check the stuff I mentioned above.

Hello everyone! I ama new user and i am coming up with this post as I couldn`t find any kind of solution for my problem.Recently I decided to do a reinstallation of my operating system, which also previously was Windows 7 Ultimate (x64). The installation went as usual, and after finishing it I went on to install all the latest drivers from the Lenovo site, for my product. When getting close to installing almost all the drivers i`ve needed, i stumbled upon a new version of the BIOS amnd the drivers and sfotware recommended for my laptop, by the producer. So i proceeded to install the upgrade, restarted the computer when it prompted me to do so, but after the so-called restart the laptop did not boot up as usual. At first it was telling me to not do anything as the BIOS is being flashed and then it was telling me something about some sort of image processing, things that i did not understand at the time (i have never encountered anything like that). After that my screen turned black. I have not done anything for a few couple of minutes as i thought it was supposed to be like that, but then i just force shut it down and unplugged the AC adapter. When trying to boot it all up again, the only thing i got was a black screen and nothing else. After doing a little bit of research it appears that, somehowm i`ve managed to corrupt the bios on my laptop or something, and nothing else would work at this point. Is the a reason to update the BIOS or do you want to update the BIOS just because new BIOS is available?
Do you have an serious issues with the notebook?

I did not update the BIOS even if new BIOS is available for my notebook because I?ve got no issues.

However, the BIOS requires the VAP (value added package).
This package can be downloaded from Toshiba EU driver page?
If there is some problem with VAP, the BIOS update would not start.

So reinstall this VAP to check if this helps?

I apologize in advance if I posted this in the wrong forum but, I?m at wits end. I recently put a new system together basically from the ground up. The initial start up was fine, installed windows and got to installing system drivers in windows no problem. Here is where I think I screwed up, I went and updated the BIOS, the system restarted, but no video. I got a amber light on the monitor, hard drive and the whole nine in the case are working/running. Try restarting multiple times, same thing. So, disconnect the power and took the BIOS/CMOS battery out and waited about an hour. I reinstalled the battery, started it back up, I get, ?CMOS CHECKSUM BAD? and gives two options, ?PRESS F-1 TO ENTER SET UP? or ?F-2 TO LOAD DEFAULTS AND COUTINUE?. You press F-1 and it opens the BIOS menu, when I get that far, I?ve tried ?USE DEFAULT? or ?OPTIMISE?, same outcome. I hit F-2 and it loads defaults but I have a 1 in 10 chance of getting to windows or even the safe mode screen. But after a bit, the screen goes black, and I?m back at no video. All my parts are fresh out of the box and to my knowledge there shouldn?t be conflicts. A friend of mine I work with is having a similar issue, and I?m 99% sure his set up is different from mine.

3 things I would try in this situation- in the order I would do them if no success on first. 1-Immediately after powering on start tapping the F10 key to enter BIOS. (You may need to tap Esc key then choose F10 from menu options) Once in tap F9 to reset to Default settings. Then tap F10 to Save & Exit. 2-No joy? Try a hard reset.Disconnect all external devices first.1-remove power cord and battery2-press power button for 30 seconds3-reinstall only power cord for first startup.4-power on 3-Still no joy?try rolling back to previous BIOS. 1-Immediately after powering on hold/tap the Esc key. 2-When the menu appears, tap F2 for System Diagnostics. 3-In the list of items will be BIOS or Firmware Management.Use the arrow key to move down & highlight it.Press Enter key. 4-You should now have a Rollback BIOS option.Use arrow key again to highlight and press Enter key.

Both fans works only during the lounch, when windows works only one fan was in operations, second one never starts again. Looking for the solution in the internet I have found that this can be because of BIOS is not updated.  I pushed F2, checked the the system, everything is fine and then I installed only one version which I have found there. No massages regarding overheating any more, both Fans are working full power and very very loud. Made the huge mistake of updating BIOS. Had small MOBO usb prob, and for some reason thought a BIOS update would do something. Wasn't too worried because Gigabyte touts Dual BIOS pretty strong.

Anyway, tried updating BIOS, then system would not boot, so the Backup BIOS didn't kick in. btw, the MOBO is a Gigabyte GA-K8N Pro.

So I copied the backup bios to a floppy and used the floppy to fix the main bios. OK, now computer would boot, but would freeze up after the desktop icons appear. Actually would sometimes work for a few minutes, but always froze up.

Boots OK to safe mode, even to the point of getting online, so I downloaded the old bios from Gigabyte, put them on floppy and used that to update the main bios. Same result.

Also did a system restore from XP Pro Safe Mode (because XP wrongly states that this can be undone; didn't find out that System Restore done from safe mode cannot be undone until I tried to undo!).

My tech support (ABS Computer; they rule) thinks that the BIOS is now fine, that some windows files are corrupt and a re-install will fix problem and mobo is probably fine as well. I'll buy that.

anyone have any miracle suggestions before i re-install? Is a repair install worth a shot? Really not looking forward to re-installing all my software and putting all my data back where it belongs to get my email hist., bookmarks, etc. back.

thanks - I will now write the following 500 times: LEAVE THE BIOS ALONE! even with Dual BIOS

Hi,  The BIOS update using HP Support Assistant fails.  When I try to install the update manually, it crashes, and killed my HDMI port. It appears that the Bios is locked, and the option to selsct that option is greyed out. As such, I can't iupdate the BIOS - and CPU performance has been an issue I was concerned about.  It'd be GREAT to install this update. Any ideas?   Thanks! - MT

I got this PC about 6 months ago as a refurb from It ran great and has only been used for emails/fantasy football for me and youtube/roblox for my son. I didnt change anything internal and its completely stock. Ive really enjoyed the HP updater thing because I remember on my old PC how much of a pain it was to search graphics card updates and stuff. Last Wednesday it gave me an exclamation point that there was a new update. It said it was for the bios and gave no additional instructions. It ended up freezing on this screen and eventually crashed. Since then nothing works. The power button does nothing. I have a light on the back of the power supply that it is receiving power but nothing happens when I hit the button. I was looking at this link which makes it appear that crashing during a bios update can happen but all the solutions involve getting it to boot to the bios and I cannot do that. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to fix? I am really hoping I do not have to replace the motherboard. Sorry so long and thank you for reading.

Your mini-dump is pointing to the driver: nvlddmkm.sys which is your nVidia Videocard Drivers: Driver Reference Table

Please un-install your nVidia drivers via the control panel/un-install and then download Driver Fusion to get rid of any remaining traces (nVidia Display). You may have to use Driver Fusion twice or more to remove all traces if you're using the trial version:

Driver Fusion - The Complete Driver Solution

The please re-install your nVidia drivers from here (auto-detect GPU):

Drivers | GeForce

I found some drivers/programs on your system which you should update or un-install/remove if they are un-needed:

PxHlpa64.sys - Sonic CD/DVD driver (used by many different CD/DVD programs): Driver Reference Table
ArcSec.sys - ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre 5: Driver Reference Table
NTIOLib_X64.sys - MSI Afterburner: Driver Reference Table (Please un-install this, it's a known BSOD maker)
psi_mf.sys - Secunia PSI (Personal Software Inspector) driver: Driver Reference Table

You might want to also update drivers to the latest Windows 8 64bit versions from your PC manufacturers website:

Drivers & Downloads | Dell United States

Please also make sure you have all the Windows 8 updates if you have not done so already.

Have a Dell desktop, XPS 8900.

A pop up presumably from Dell says it wants to "update" my System BIOS.

Sounds scary.

Isn't the BIOS the complete "guts" of the OS ?
Whys should an update be necessary ?

Should I do it ?

A:DELL Wants To Update My System BIOS: Questions On, Please ?

The BIOS (Basic Input Output System) is the chip that controls your system during boot up until it is "transferred" to the OS itself.
(That's a nutshell description, but should suffice here).

It is not the OS, but the SW "Guts" of your computer (Motherboard).

Whether or not to upgrade:

First, what does the update correct? They should list that info, or link to it.

In general, I'm the type to always update the BIOS if a new firmware is released, that said though, my mainboard has three separate BIOS's that I can switch to, so if one is borked by an update, or changes I make, I can go back to the original (I leave one on the original for that purpose).

If all is well on your system, you do not have to perform the update at all, and that may be the best advice I can give you, especially if you are questioning it to begin with, but if you are willing to do it, depending on what it may change for your system, it may be worthwhile.

I'll review it and post later, or others may chime in as they see fit.

UPDATE: I checked the Dell site for your system, but don't see an update for today, that's not to say anything malicious is going on, but can you give more details on the pop up?

What version it wants to update you to? Etc.
You could also boot into your BIOS and give us the version you are on, if you are several versions "behind" the most current one, it may also be beneficial to do it, again depending on what I outlined above.

I need a help to fix my lappy issue..

Lenovo Z570; WiFI was not detecting the router so i have downloaded drivers and updated from lenovo support store, still the problem was not fixed so i found some suggestion as to update the BIOS. I did the same from lenosupport store it self, after on lappy got crashed!! windows is loading but after that when logo display time its just going freeze for a while and blue screen displays for a second and getting re-started!!

tried all the available options through boot menu... like restore for previous state/safe mode boot/last good config/system recovery etc.. still its unsuccessful!!

Even try to format and re-install, after changing the priority of boot to hard disc its still going with the regular boot as from HDD!!

Please help me to resolve

A:BIOS update made system crash!!

Well first off, flashing the bios would have no affect on connecting to your router, the problem you had was within windows, or with the router. Next time just reboot the router, then reboot windows and it should fix the problem. But anyway, go into the bios and reset to defaults, reboot the pc and let us know what happens.

Hi, i purchased the HP Pavilion 15-ab150sa last weekend and have had lots of problems since getting it. Kept freezing and dropping WI-FI connection shortly after logging on. I found there were 6 updates needing running that wern't automatically showing until i scanned for them in HPSA. Its taken me 4 days to get most of the updates to actually complete and it seems to be working much better now however, I have one update for HP Notebook System NIOS Update (AND Processors) that keeps failing... Any ideas? Please keep it simple i'm not very good with technical info. :-) Greg

View Solution.

A:HP Notebook System BIOS Update (And Processors)

Hi Greg, Try the following. If the bios update is still running in HPSA, click the Stop button. Close HPSA, restart the notebook, then download the Bios Update from the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. When the download has completed, close any other open windows and programs, then open your Downloads folder and double-tap the installer to start the process.  The actual flash will occur when the machine restarts - do not interrupt this in any way, even if nothing appears to be happening for a while - when it has completed, the machine will load into Windows as usual. Note:  If the option to Update shows as being 'blocked on this device', you will need to Contact HP regarding this. Regards, DP-K

Recently I got into the device manager while doing some changes and found that the lenovo firmware had an error, saying that it cannot start. I rolled back the driver to the microsoft driver, which works fine now. I went and downloaded the update for my notebook and started to install. I started, clicked yes that i was sure for the laptop model, and got an error. Error states "Runtime Error (at1:708): Out of string range." I did some googling but nothing like this. I tried redownloading the program and received the same problem. Any ideas what could be causing this / how to fix this? Currently running Windows 10 x64, the notebook is a Lenovo Edge 2 1580.

also the CD Rom and DVD rom are not responding anymore (unless I go to their properties and press "populate"?)

Any help...much appreciated!!

A:Bios update error

Welcome to Techspot!
It sounds like your machine was fine before the Flash, if this true, you have just learned Rule # 1 about updating.
If it ain't broke don't fix it.Generally Flashing rom files is very touchy business, and those updates are for specific problems. If you are not experiencing those specific problems you really should not do it.
Have you tried to Clear your CMOS ?
How many update files are availible between the file you had and the file you updated to?
If there is at least 1 file in this group, I would try it.
Also, if your bios is recognizing the Rom drives properly. Then just uninstall the drives in device Manager and reboot , this will force Windows to reinstall them properly.

Hi, I updated my BIOS today and I am 100% sure it is the right one because it was for the motherboard that I have. Nothing major but I am having a few problems:

The screen resolution seems to set itself to 800x600 when it should be 1024x768. It does this every so often when I turn on my computer.

I can't save any BIOS setting e.g. I noticed it was trying to find a floppy drive so I went in to the BIOS and disabled the floppy settings then saved and exited. It still tried to find it and it was the same as before in the settings.

Any suggestions.

I think you've missed something in the update instructions. Rather than just tell you what it is, I want you to go back through those instructions until you understand them thoroughly, step by step. Hi all,

I've been having a couple problems with my PC recently relating to drivers etc, after some deliberation I was advised to update the BIOS.

I have a Dell XPS L421x and upon updating my BIOS from A04 to A14 my computer crashed and is now stuck in a boot cycle.

I have tried to system repair, which takes it to system restore - which I am almost certain cannot be done because of BitDefender anti-virus.

When trying to boot windows normally it comes up with 'starting windows', then flashes to a BSOD for a moment before restarting and doing the same thing over and over.

Has anybody got any suggestions as to what I can do?

I updated my BIOS version before (around a month ago) but I just discovered that the HP Notebook System Bios Update (Intel Processor) was skipped. I actually cancelled this update and when I tried to do it again it didn't allow me anymore. I contacted the HP Chat Support at that time and they said my laptop was fine. I got a blue screen of death once and that was it. That was the only issue I had with my laptop. After that I updated to the latest version of the w10 Anniversary Update a week ago. I do not have any problems with it, my laptop is running smoothly. I haven't encountered any problems. I just reccently purchased this 2 months ago.  Well recently, I got an update in the HP Support Assistant regarding an update for the Intel Serial 10 Driver. I contacted the HP Chat Support and they said my laptop didn't need the driver. That it was a general update and not targeted to any specific PC. Long story short he said I didn't need it, I don't need to update and that my laptop was fine. The Windows 10 Anniversary update... Well updates everything the tech said. I was just wondering:1. Is the HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processor) a CRITICAL update that I really  need to find a link or something to update it?2. Is it harmful that I didn't update it?3. Do I really need to update it?4. Is it the reason that the HP Support Assistant notified me about the Intel Serial 10 Driver? My Driver Version is: I hope I provide... Read more

It says there is no operating system on a clean system, so shoot, I will reload. Now on all hard drives it reads setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system parition. See setup log files for more information.

Not sure how you see logs if system can not operate. One of the drives was completely empty. Just had formated faster two drives in Raid before bios update a mistake I guess going to 5-2010 update sucks now. No computer any ideas and notice it use to ask to set up raid on startup by hitting F10 nothing similar now.

If the PC is running Windows XP then I would advise to NOT update to Windows 8.

So apparently the BIOS was released already some time ago and I already flashed it to 1.25. So whats the point of re-releasing the 1.25? If there are any changes of todays version compared to the 1.25 released some time ago, is it worth flashing? If yes, how can I do this if the tool tells me I am already having the latest version and it does not let me override my BIOS? Thanks and best regards,Martin

I need to recover the bios on my elitebook. I've tried using the win+B key combo as outlined here but that doesn't seem to work (screen just stays dark, cpu fan is running). I now want to try the usb stick recovery method. So I downloaded the latest bios sp76205.exe and when I run it, I follow the instructions, but I never get the "HP System Bios Update Utility" to launch. After extraction of the files, nothing launches so I don't get any menu to choose to create a USB stick install. It is as-if the spXXXXX.exe is trying to install the bios locally to my workstation!... good thing it doesn't do that. How can I get a working HP System Update Utility or how can I launch the sp76205.exe is such a manner that I'll be presented with the menu to create a USB stick? Is there a commandline flag or something I need to launch it with?

I received a notification via Tempro that a BIOS upgrade was available. I downloaded the ZIP file (, extracted the package (BIOS360_EC140_WIN.exe) and ran it according to the instructions.

The package runs, gives the "Extracting files..." progress bar then displays a dialogue entitled "TOSHIBA BIOS Package Ver.4.1.2" that says: "This BIOS package does not support this operating system."

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on a Satellite 830R-143 with the short part no. PT32LE

Does anyone know what the problem is?

Thanks in advance for your help...

A:Satellite R830-143 - BIOS update does not support this operating system

Do you have any problems with notebook?
If not then why you want to do the BIOS? Just because new BIOS was released?
I would not change anything if my notebook would run properly.

However, the BIOS update requires the VAP (value added package).
So be sure that this VAP is installed properly. If not, update this.

So after getting a notification that I needed to install the HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors)I checked the box and clicked install. I waited and waited for it to install but it would never complete. I then attempted it a second time and it dI'd the same thing. After that I left it alone and all of a sudden the screen went blank and told me I needed to install an operating system on my computer. I didn't know what else to do, so I turned it off and then back on again to see if it would start up. It did start up and I tried one last time to install the uplate but it still says installing and has been for a very long time. I just barely bought this computer and school starts back up soon so any help is grearly appreciated!

I recently bought a Geforce 6600 GT. It’s nice when it works, but occasionally, I get an error that prevents it from functioning. The error seems to occur on an intermittent basis – sometimes when I boot up, it will be present, and sometimes it won’t be. The only indication of the error is when the “Windows is Starting up/Loading your personal settings” boxes pop-up – when the error is occurring, those boxes are distorted. And then if any kind of program with 3d acceleration tries to run, the whole system locks up. And then I reboot, and hope for the best.

It doesn’t always occur, but it’s a pain when it does – I’m developing a reboot phobia. Tech support for the card said to update my motherboard drivers, tech support for the motherboard says to update my BIOS and the BIOS people want to charge me $60 USD for a floppy disc.

I’m guessing the BIOS is indeed the problem (Award BIOS, apparently from 2001…yikes). But $60 seems a bit steep in our modern age of miracles. Are there sites out there with free BIOS updates, or is this just the nature of the BIOS beast?

A:6600GT error/motherboard BIOS update

I'm not totally sure how to help you, but I know in order for others to help you out, they'll need to know what kind of motherboard you have.

I have had a bios error on my brand new Inspiron 1420 laptop twice now--causing a blue screen.

Unfortuantely, both times my computer has restarted too quickly for me to read the entire screen. I just know I saw the word "bios."

Should I update something? If so, what? Is there any way to retrieve what my error said?

The blue screen happened when I was doing several things--chatting on AIM, unzipping music files on my computer, and running iTunes with firefox open.

Any help is appreciated!

Current BIOS is F.12, Downloaded 3 BIOS (F55, F61, F66) from HP Support, couldn't install any of them. Each time error message appears "There isn't any ROM File" after pressing Start button while in INSYDEFLASH utility. Tried disabling Wi-Fi and Antivirus. Some people fixed it by updating to closest next version up till the latest one but after pressing "Previous Versions" button on HP Support I get 3 (F55, F61, F66) which aren't working. Probably there are others but I couldn't find those on the web.Kindly give me link for all versions, or tell me any other method to solve it. Thanks.

I have a Lenovo ideacentre AIO 700.
I tried to update the BIOS from O1KTT30AUS to the latest available on the product's driver and software page which is listed as O1KKT35A.
Now when I boot I get an American Megatrends error message saying Error 0162: Setup data integrity check failure.
It displays two options:
Press F1 for Setup
Press F2 to resume.
The PC reboots and then Windows loads A-OK, but this process repeats everytime I reset my PC.
In the Lenovo Setting app it shows my BIOS as still being O1KTT30AUS.
Any help on how to fix this gratefully received!

Hi I'm a new member.

I recently decided to build my first PC

Parts were:
Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 MoBo
Intel i5 3570K - LGA 1155
DDR3 Single stick 8GB G-Skill 1600
GeForce GTX 660 2GD5/OC
Seagate Barracuder SATA 3 1TB
875w PSU

Now for the problem,

I installed everything correctly and got to POST so I decided to follow most Internet forum instructions to update my BIOS so I did so over the Internet flash update from the AsRock BIOS setup

The problems arose after trying to update it via the Internet. Now the motherboard won't even get to POST or show any signs or working on a monitor, the fans for ten graphics card CPU and chassis all work, the PSU is working fine. But the Dr. Debug is showing the status code 00 which states in the description is that it is "not used"

I don't know what to do, iv taken out the graphics card and tried still the same disconnected everything except the 1155 socket and all pins are fine on the PCIe slots and RAM

Any help would be appreciated

I have a spare Gigabyte gt 630 2GB hanging round and was wondering if I can get the MoBo to work will it be worth sticking the 630 in with the 660 for any improvements however slight until I can afford another 660 for SLI?

A:Asrock Extreme 4 Z77 - BIOS update error

"Now the motherboard won't even get to POST or show any signs or working on a monitor" You might be able to get the motherboard to respond by removing the battery for a few minutes. If not, the motherboard may need to be replaced

a friend gave me his HP DV6500 Notebook to fix it. He said it made an update and then for hours nothing happened. He shut it and started again.

I could see that it tried to recover 2 times. The second time it was successful but it somehow resetted or returned the Vista to a fresh install!!! His data was locked in a previous User account, I backed it up on a usb-stick with a linux live cd.

I can't make a reinstall because now a bluescreen always appears even when I boot from Vista DVD.

ntoskrnl.exe corrupt when try to boot vista in the normal way.
How can I fix that without being able to use the repair option of the DVD?
Sorry, the title of the thread is wrong. I figured out already that the BIOS version is for an Intel. So everything is ok with the BIOS actually.

A:Solved: HP DV6500 Notebook wrong BIOS update by HP update function?

Ok, I could fix it after following instructions from this page:

The Txf-log had to be removed and afterwards I was able to use the repair function of the Vista DVD again.

I have searched and been unable to find the information.

Specs are HP G60-445DX
AMD Turion X2, 64 bit

Upgrading from Vista Home Premium that was reset to factory specs in hopes of repairing "local only" issue on network.

Here's what is happening, booted from Windows 7 Ultimate burned ISO image on DVD RW, followed the instructions on this site for a clean install. Performed clean all on disk 0, set a partition and followed the install instructions. Expansion of Windows remained at 0% for 2 hours, I understood there were known issues however I have retried to do another clean install but am unable to boot from DVD although everything is set to do so including resetting CMOS battery.

It has come to my attention that I am required to update my BIOS from f3c to f54 to install W7, unfortunatly I have no idea how to do so now that I have no operating system on this HDD.

When trying to boot from DVD I am now getting the status of: 0xc00000e9.
Prior to this, the system would boot and freeze when loading files, now the system either promts with this message or will inform me bootmgr is missing or worse, shut down.

I'm doing this all from my phone and am at a loss as to what the proper step would be to get on the right track or if I am SOL.

A:Windows 7 install requires BIOS update, no operating system to boot

You should be able to find a DOS version of your BIOS and flash it from a bootable thumbdrive or disc.

Never mind. I thought I'd help you out by linking to the DOS flash utility but apparently there isn't one...

Hopefully someone will have a better solution.

apparently my laptop does not accept neither windows 7 or 8. It suddenly crushes and displays "operating system not found" so I though that I have to update the bios. So I did (acer website provides them). After the bios update I get BSOD and then operating system not found!
How to solve it? I cannot bring my laptop to factory settings either. Please advise

Hi Guys,

I have a REAL newbie question. I?ve tried reading a bunch of tutorials, but they?re a little over my head. I think my question is pretty basic, but after a couple hours research, hopefully someone here would be kind enough to help.

I have an M2A-VM motherboard and my system keeps freezing up, no input from keyboard or mouse, no ctl-alt-del, nothing. It freezes intermittently, but never goes more than 3 hours without freezing, sometimes freezes in a few seconds, with 5 ? 10 minutes being the average time it works before freezing. Seems to freeze more (often immediately) when I?m using the mouse than any other time, but it will freeze on it?s own, just idling, if you give it enough time.

I?ve read a few things including updating bios and downloading the latest motherboard drivers. My problem starts when I go to download the mobo drivers from this page:

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-

It lists 41 driver updates there for my motherboard:

41 files found

Qualified Vendor List (1)

BIOS (20) [BIOS History]

BIOS-Utilities (1)

Chipset (1)

LAN (1)

Utilities (2)

Manual (14)

And apparently I?m ?missing? these Windows Updates:

Q934062 - Important
Q936960 - Important
Q950130 - Critical
Q951550 - Important
Q951944 - Important
Q973923 - Moderate

Question #1: Do I download all 41?? Surely my machine can?t need 41 updates? How do I know which ones to download and install?

Question #2: ... Read more

A:Windows Update INCLUDES Motherboard Drivers and BIOS Update on M2A-VM?

I have the same board on another pc.

You only need to download and install only that which would make your setup current.

You really only need to update the bios if you will be moving up to a newer processor that is not currently supported by the current bios or if the newer bios fixes a known problem.

You need the latest motherboard chipset driver. (I would install this first if you haven't already)

You need the latest LAN driver.

The audio driver you can either download from Asus or from RealTek.

Hi there.

Bulding a new Asus T2-r for a freind. Installed all teh componenets and turned on the pc and it booted into the bios but then it froze. I was unable to do anything.

I cleared the cmos and rebooted and it stated that cmos date settings etc were wrong and it then it froze.

Then i reboot and get a CMOS CHECKSUM BAD.

however i cant press anything as its frozen.

SO i tried to use a floppy drive and flash the drive using a default bios obtained from the motherboard help cd.

However it froze during the update.
i got
floppy found. reading "p4r8t.rom"

but thats it. the drive stops whirring and i get nothing even after leaving it for 10 mins. it says in the manual DO NOT turn off the power during bios updating but i had to cos there was nothing i could do.

I know cannot boot up into the bios at all.

I took the hd out, and i also checkedk the ram and rechekced all the cables.
Has anyone got any idea at all please.

Hi All,

Can anyone please help me? I was trying to update my aopen AP5T mboard and whilst in ms-dos mode
and attempting to run the program all I keep getting is an insufficient memory error?
I have an Aopen with a 200 mmx pentium with 256 megs of sdram, running W98
first edition. Shouldn't that be plenty of memory?

Thanks for all your help.

A:Aopen AP5T Mboard Bios Update Error?

Welcome to TSG!

ohh... I don't know, win98fe is worring me a little. It is a little troublesome and may be causing some errors, but might not. It is still better than Me. 256mb RAM is more than enough... however (and I am not too sure what the numbers are for win98fe) it may be too much. Older OS' were not designed to run an massive amounts of RAM, and back when win98fe came out, 256 was quite massive. How much RAM does your machine support? Is the RAM seated properly? Try unseating it and seating it again. Is this one 256 module or two 128, or what? I think if it is one 256 that might be a problem with 98fe, but I hope someone will correct me if I am wrong. Is this RAM new? Check in your bios to make sure the computer is recognizing all of the RAM, it may be only recognizing part or none. If this is new RAM and you are using it with the old RAM, is it made by the same manufacturer? It should also be the same speed. Try these and we will try to narrow things down.
