Updates not recognized by Dell System Detect

Q: Updates not recognized by Dell System Detect

When I search for new drivers using Dell System Detect, it says 2 drivers are available, however I already installed these updates:
9350_Chipset_Driver_6X18P_WN32_30.100.1519.7_A00
Chipset_Driver_MX1JJ_WN32_11.0.0.1162_A01
Why could this be happening? I am on a Dell XPS 13 9350.
Thanks,
Mark

When Attempting to get drivers for several optiplex desktops I keep getting the following error.
"An error accourred attempting to install DellSystemDetect"
In the details of the message it always reports:
An error occurred trying to download 'downloads.dell.com/.../DellSystemDetect.application'.
See the setup log file located at 'C:\Users\owner\AppData\Local\Temp\VSD129D.tmp\install.log' for more information.
In the log file
It always gives the error
The following properties have been set:Property: [AdminUser] = true {boolean}Property: [InstallMode] = HomeSite {string}Property: [NTProductType] = 1 {int}Property: [ProcessorArchitecture] = AMD64 {string}Property: [VersionNT] = 6.1.1 {version}Launching Application.URLDownloadToCacheFile failed with HRESULT '-2146697211'Error: An error occurred trying to download 'downloads.dell.com/.../DellSystemDetect.application'.

The system is configured as follows
Optiplex 9020
Windows 7 Pro 64 - Clean installation from dell win 7 disk, no antivirus installed, all windows updates run

I see this particular problem across many systems, sometimes it works and works well.  Most of the time it fails.  This has been the cleanest configuration for running this application and it failing.

My computer is a Inspiron One 19, running Windows 7, 64-bit OS
Whenever trying to run a Diagnostic Test, Dell asks to download the Dell System Detect.
Before it did work without any problem, running the test to its end. Lately my computer will download the Dell System Detect, but will not proceed any further, thereby not being able to perform a diagnostic test.
Scanning of the computer with McAfee antivirus has not found any infection.
Any help will be appreciated.

I wen to the Dell website to update my drivers and it asked my to install Dell System Detect - so I downloaded and installed it.  When I went to the start menu to run it I noticed that  I had two instances; one of them had a '1' at the end of its name.  I hopped over to 'Programs and Features' to see what was going on and I found two instances installed on my machine.  The second one was there with the '1' after the name.
Needless to say, I was quite surprised and annoyed that Dell would perform a side by side install rather than updating the existing one.  I decided to uninstall both and start from scratch but the original one (version 5.4.0.4) will not uninstall; I get the following error: Uninstall of application did not succeed.  The log file contains the following:

I had a bunch of slowdown and glitch problems recently, I've had glitchy problems with Dell software since the beginning, it's changed over time as Dell updates its own software automatically, including freezes and crashes (not to mention the root cert vulnerability a while back), so I just uninstalled as much as I could, and the problems mostly went away, but now I've noticed the Sleep option is gone from power options, I can only shut down and hibernate now.
(Screenshot at bottom of post)
I went in to Dell support to see what I needed to install again, and it guided me to the Dell System Detect download launcher, which now crashes. I tried uninstalling all of the remaining Dell software (Data Protection, Power Manager (which had no Hibernate/Sleep options anyways), but not Touchpad), and it says DDP needs other things uninstalled first...
I just need a normal Windows 7 experience, I want the absolute base minimum Dell software necessary to have that experience without all the Dell bugs and problems... what do I do now?

From time to time, I use iOBit uninstaller to check existing programs, and sometimes find ones I've never seen before. This morning, it was Dell System Detect. I did some research and found out what it is, what it does and that it is a vulnerable program, so I wanted to uninstall it.
When iOBit does the second scan, it comes up with a lot of leftover appdata files and a warning comes up that says:
Warning! Multiple programs detected in the current directory. Please be careful when selecting items to delete.
The files are all under this directory, and there are approximate 60 of them.
C:\Users/MyName\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0\DPH8J4AT.54N\6DK4VGY9.TZJ\DELL..TION_E30847F5D4A30E93_0006.0006_E3E278AC9F13D46\(Hope I got all that right)Is it safe to delete these files the regular uninstaller left behind?

A:Uninstalling Dell System Detect

Hi DSA2591,
What is the exact system model? What is the current OS installed on the system?
The files in the local appdata folder are all temporary files stored by the programs / applications that are  installed on the system. So, yes it is safe to delete these files, however, I would suggest you to create a system restore point, such that in any case, if there is an issue with the system, you could always restore the machine back to its functional point.
Hope these links help - http://bit.ly/2fhDDa8 | http://bit.ly/2dYomoJ
Having said this, the Dell System Detect is a Dell application to detect the system details and check for any required updates on the system. So, it is your discretion whether or not you would want to remove this from your system.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Dell never created any Windows 10 drivers for this computer. If you were to go to the link below to search for Windows 10 drivers you would see the following information. You may want to consider returning to the previous OS that was installed. Always check your computer manufacturer for drivers before an OS upgrade to make sure that they have them listed.

I have had DSD on my laptop in the past. Recently I tried to use it and got the message "Cannot start application - application cannot be started. Contact the application vendor."  I noticed that it was  still in programs list and I tried to uninstall it, but nothing happened when I tried to uninstall it... nothing; like it was a ghost.
I have gone through the files on my computer and I couldn't find any files related to DSD. I also found out it is somehow on my automatic start up programs list even though it has no apparent files.
So I tried to reinstall DSD and while trying to install, I received the message "Cannot start application - application cannot be started. Contact the application vendor."
I highlighted what I think to be the culprit; Any suggested actions?

This application, known as Dell System Detect, is pre-installed with many Dell systems. According to research done by Tom Forbes, older versions of Dell System Detect are vulnerable to a serious remote code execution attack.
What this basically means is that anyone with a vulnerable version of the tool (which maintains persistence on the system and therefore is always running) might be directed by an attacker to a specific website designed to exploit the flaw in the program and execute any commands the attacker wishes.
This could potentially lead to malware being installed without user awareness, stolen credentials, damaged system configuration and more.
Thankfully Dell has since modified this tool based on the research and it is no longer vulnerable, so it?s in the best interest for everyone to update this tool if they are running a computer designed by Dell.

well I put it all in the topic ... I'm working on my parents computer (which they allow an 8 year old to use) and they are infected with crap ... IE is constantly poping up about security certificate errors ...

I would note that the computer is slow ... but it doesn't have enough memory so malware is only part of that problem.

Shrug... don't know what else to say ...

(I will probably proactively delouse my own computer later as well as optimising this one and look into getting more memory ....  but all that is another post for another day)

Since I originally installed Windows 10 Professional on my XPS 8700 in July 2015 Dell System Detect has been failing to run properly.  Although it downloads to my PC and all indications are that the software is running just fine on my PC, attempting to detect my system on the Dell support website invariably returns the message “Running Dell System Detect,  Download failure.  An error occurred while downloading Dell System Detect. Cancel or Retry.”
Now, Dell System Detect always ran fine on my PC under Win 7 Ultimate and Win 8.1 Professional x64 versions.  It is only since installing Windows 10 Professional that I have encountered this error.  Following the Windows 10 Anniversary fiasco I was encountering so many problems that I attempted to use Dell Support.  Once again attempting to detect my system resulted in the message “Running Dell System Detect,  Download failure.  An error occurred while downloading Dell System Detect. With sheer multitude of problems I was experiencing from the Anniversary update, I finally resorted to a clean install of Win 10 Pro, which fortunately resolved all of the problems I had been encountering.  Out of curiosity, I downloaded and installed Dell System Detect Ver 7.9.0.10; once again it appeared to download and run without problems.  And once again, as soon as it finished installing the Dell website reported  “Download failure. Dell System Detect: Common Questions
For more information about the recent issue reported related to Dell System Detect (DSD), refer below.

November 23, 2015
Description: Dell System Detect application and its DSDTestProvider root certificate had similar characteristics to eDellRoot certificate that was installed on Dell PC's. With Dell System Detect (DSD), the customer downloads the software proactively to interact with the Dell Support website so we can provide a better and more personalized support experience. The support certificate in question was designed to make it faster and easier for our customers to get support. The certificate unintentionally introduced a security vulnerability.
The application was removed from the Dell Support site immediately and a replacement application without the certificate is now available. We are proactively pushing a software update to address the issue and have provided instructions to remove this certificate.
Impact: The impact is limited to customers who used the "detect product" functionality on our support site between Oct. 20 and Nov. 24, 2015.

I just saw the new Client System Update utility for my E6500, downloaded, and installed it on Win7 x64. I've been talking about Dell creating such a util for years and finally Dell did.

However, it does not work. After I press the Check for updates button, after a bit it comes back with "Check for updates failed" and the GUI-U15 error in the logs. I tried many times, including after a reboot. Also, the app just disappears (probably crashes silently) when I go to Advanced->system details.

Any ideas? I was excited to spread the word around about it but can't as it doesn't work at all.

My Dell INS-N4110 laptop has been around for roughly 5 years. It's no powerhouse but I wouldn't call it much of a slouch either. Just recently, it's started randomly getting slow; games would lag and even Chrome would run like it was being processed on a Win98. Pulling the power and taking out the battery for a few minutes fixed the problem a few times, but now it's not even succumbing to that.

After doing a reboot with all of the original services/startup programs (did this by accident, mind you) ? Dell Quickset was re-enabled and a message popped up telling me that my AC power adapter could no longer be recognized and that I needed to plug in an official 65W charger. This IS the original charger the laptop came with. Okay, so I need a new charger; that should be a 2 week wait. HOWEVER, Dell's shadiness showed itself when I found out that until a new charger is plugged in, the system throttles down the CPU which is the exact reason why my games/programs are underperforming.

Is there any way that I can bypass this and get the laptop back to its original speed until I can get my hands on a charger?

I have a Dell XPS 13 running Windows 10.
I have been unable to install updates.
After several sessions with Microsoft support, I spoke with a Level 2 technician who emailed me the following diagnosis:
This is XXXXX from Microsoft escalation team. We had a conversation regarding the case number: XXXXX,
and we tried to Upgrade to the Anniversary update using the ISO, but unfortunately it failed with the error
"We could'nt update the system reserved partition" .
So we would not be able to Extend the system reserved partion as we do not have the access and it needs to be done by Computer manufacturer.
So please conatct Dell and ask them to Extend the system reserved partion.

Has anyone else had this issue? When I contact Dell support they blame me (because I upgraded the computer from Windows 8 to Windows 10) or Microsoft.

Hi All,

I having a problem with this laptop that when I go the search screen, it shows the puppy dog, and I can make the tail wag, but it doesn't show any options to search for anything.

System restore will start up and it's blank. Same sort of thing.

Windows updates, also goes blank when I run it (I can do them manually).

When I go to look at user accounts, it's blank too.

I ran Spybot S&D on it, and it seems okay.

Detect Changes to Windows Automatic Updates

There has been a lot of controversy lately over the Windows Automatic Update feature. First Microsoft made change some files used in the Auto Update mechanism on a users machine without ever making it an option. Now, Microsoft has been accused of making changes to the Windows AutoUpdate settings. Some claim during the last Windows update their configuration was changed to “Update Automatically”. Microsoft denies the accusations. Others report that Microsoft One Care or other application make changes for you.

WinPatrol has a long history of monitoring unique settings that most other programs don’t worry about. Many new WinPatrol features are requested by users but a lot of changes are based on things I want for myself. Hi, I recently formatted my Dell Inspiron Duo netbook, with Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit. I installed all of the software which I run on it without any problems.

When I try to update Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Plus (32bit) Windows Update only finds a few updates, and after they're installed it doesn't find anymore updates. It doesn't even find Office 2010 SP1.

{Note: I had no problems with other updates like Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 or other Microsoft updates.

I tried uninstalling Office 2010 and installing it again but nothing changed. The privacy settings which show up the first time you run an Office application I set it as "Recommended settings".

I also tried downloading Office 2010 SP1 (32bit) and when I tried to run it an error came up saying something like version mismatch (I presume that you need to install other updates before running the setup & I also tried to download an other update but the same error came up.)

I didn't have this problem before I formatted the computer.}

I hope I gave a detailed description of my issue, and thanks.

Video card NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTS - 1.0 GB GDDR3 SDRAM

Explanation: I used to have a problem blackscreening while gaming, so I took my computer to a computer shop where they said they'd install a new video card (same card I had before, NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTS - 1.0 GB GDDR3 SDRAM and motherboard to go with it. When I got my computer back and downloaded the newest NVIDIA drivers from the website, they "couldn't find compatible hardware." I got a little suspicious and questioned the guy, who said since the card is Chinese I have to use Chinese drivers, so he installed Chinese DriverGenius on my computer and used it to download driver version 8.17.12.5947 from 1/11/2009. I was like "woah that's old as hell" and he just said "try it," which I did and everything worked fine so I was just like whatever. For the first week or so everything worked fine, then I started getting major blackscreen/bluescreen problems. While playing games, while not playing games, on startup, basically any time.

Sometimes the screen flashes black then says "The NVIDIA Kernel driver has stopped working and recovered" or something like that, then it's fine for a while and happens again or just crashes. Sometimes it blackscreens and I can still hear my music no problem until I turn it off. Sometimes it blackscreens, sound goes staticy, then normal, then staticy, then normal, then bluescreen. Sometimes it bluescreens. Sometimes it does what I c... Read more

A:Driver updates can't detect video card, constant blue/blackscreens

Hi, First thing to do is find out what hardware you have actually got installed.
I would install something like; 'Speccy' from Piriform,
www.piriform.com/speccy
Run it, and then click on the light blue 'Graphics' line to get more info.
Can't say what chinese drivers are as all drivers for nvidia cards are supplied by nvidia, and if you go to their site, and 'Support' you will find an automatic detector, if you are not sure what you have.
But before you install another driver, be sure to uninstall the previous one.
That's in Control panel, Hardware and sound. Device manager.
When the list appears, click twice on 'Display adapters', then right-click and choose 'Properties'.
Then click on 'Driver' tab, and click on Uninstall (Driver, Advanced).
Then Windows may need to be rebooted, when it will install a generic driver, so you can see the screen.
Then go to www.nvidia.com, then support, then Download drivers.
Try the automatic detect feature, or if you know from Speccy what card you have, select it from the drop-down menus.
That should work as far as the Graphic card driver is concerned.

USB Drive is WD10EVDS, 1TB in a dual StarTech.com enclosure/toaster.

PC is a DELL XPS 8100.

From what I've been able to tell (initial hardware screen displays 1 sec then moves on, so not enough time to read):

American MegaTrends, V02.67
BIOS A03 dated 12/9/2009

Internal Drives are 1TBx2 Raid 1, Mirrored

Using F2 during boot, the Ext HD "seems" to be recognized, but Win7 Explorer does NOT list device. The USB Ext Drive is brand new, never used and is destined to be a data store for TIVO files.

If BIOS is the issue, a link to update would be helpful.

Thx in advance for any help.

Has the new drive been "prepared" and/or set up in Windows? Go to Control Panel/System Security and then click on Create and Format Hard Disc Partitions under Administrative Tools.

You can format the new drive in this panel and make it active.

The laptop was used 2 hours before the wifi adapter suddenly went "missing", as in no wifi driver is shown in the Device Manager list, and when I try to install the driver, the installation was unsuccessful due to absence of hardware.
Now, this laptop was bought 3 years ago, and this problem reoccurred a few times, each time it just magically fixed itself after a couple of days. The problem usually happens after having carried the computer outside during bus ride, so I'm guessing the hardware component somehow got shaken out of place?
What should I do now to fix the problem ASAP? Thank you!

A:Dell Inspiron 15r 5521 cannot detect wifi adapter

Hi SEASONOFFLAKES,
What is the current OS installed on the system? What is the wireless card model on the system? Does the ethernet work fine?
You cannot install the driver if the hardware is not detected.
Update the BIOS if possible - http://dell.to/2fvY6Hc- restart the system and check again.
If the card is still not detected, then try reseating the wireless card and check. Download the service manual here - http://dell.to/2fw2juI
If it still does not work, then you could try replacing the wireless card - you could order the parts here as well - http://bit.ly/2eP1069
If there is no warranty, then you could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Hi,

I just reformatted an old Dell Inspiron 5100 with XP SP3.
All drivers are installed and there are no exclamation marks in the Driver Manager.

The network card is a Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller.
When I connect my network cable to the machine it doesnt not detect the connection. I tried the same cable in another computer and it is working fine so I know that there is a connection, however, in this machines it does not detect it.

Any ideas on this issue or how to identify the problem?

A:Does not detect network connection in Dell Inspiron 5100

You've confirmed that the network adapter driver is installed and the network adapter is working properly, and you've confirmed that the CAT5 cable isn't bad, so neither of those is the problem.

Try resetting the cable modem and then restarting the computer.

Hi,

I've been working through some older threads on here and other information across the internet and it seems I have a relatively common problem with a number of solutions.

My Dell XPS M1330 with Windows 7 Profressional (64 bit) can't detect a second monitor. I suspect its because my video card wasn't updated when I installed Windows 7 after previously running Vista.

For what its worth I'm trying to connect with a HDMI to DVI cable.

Now I'm not positive how to move forward and this is where I'm looking for help.

My Standard Vga Graphics Adapter is supposedly up to date - so what to do next?

I came across an array of driver updates via Dell

but don't know how to move forward.

I'd love some help...many thanks.

A:Can't Detect Second Monitor - Dell m1330 Windows 7 64bit

I'm also a little confused because I came across this statement:

Quote:
Standard vga graphics adapter in Windows just means that the video card is not automatically detected in Windows. You must locate the correct drivers from the video card manufacturer, if one exists.

Am I right that a Standard Vga Graphics Adapter is a default driver installed with Windows 7?

If so, how would I go about finding an upgraded driver that would enable me to use dual monitors?

Thanks

Many thanks,

A:Dell XPS L321X does not detect external usb hard drive

Hi Ashim,
Please try connecting the USB drive into an alternative USB port and see if it helps. You may also try using an alternate USB device such as mouse, flash drive etc to verify the functionality of USB ports.
If the USB ports are not working properly, you may follow the steps below to uninstall USB root hubs and restart the system :

Unplug all USB devices from the computer.
Press Windows + R button on keyboard
Type 'devmgmt.msc' without quotes and press Enter
The Device Manager window will open
Click on > sign next to ‘USB Universal Bus Controllers’ to expand the category.
Right click on each entry listed under USB Universal Bus Controllers and click on ‘Uninstall’.
Click on ‘Yes’ on the security warning.
Restart the computer and Windows will automatically install generic drivers for USB Root Hubs.

If the issue persists after refreshing USB root hubs, you may update the chipset drivers from Here -> Enter the Service Tag of system -> Click on Drivers and Downloads -> select the operating system installed on your computer -> Expand the 'chipset' category and download/install the drivers -> Restart the computer when prompted and check if the hard drive is getting detected.
If you have any questions, please share the system model along with the Operating system installed on computer. Will take it further from there.

I have a Dell Dimension XPS 720. My PC has two sata hard drives and one IDE hard drive. When I boot the PC tells me that it doesn't detect any hard drive in sata 3. Then it asks me to press F1 to continue. But, when I get into my OS which is Vista Ultimate, I check 'My Computers' and my second hard drive appears. And sata hard drive works fine.

I've gone into BIOS. Each SATA port also lists the model number of the sata hard drive, but the sata drive I'm having problems with isn't listed and yes the hard drive sata port is set to 'ON'.

I should also note that I never used to have problems with this hard drive in the past. It used to show up on the BIOS drive list.

I need help fixing this problem.

I have a dell m6700 laptop with AMD M6000 graphics. Battery seems to be dead. Running on Direct AC power.
Couple of days ago, the laptop booted on Intel HD 4000, windows device manager saying GPU is disconnected - visible under hidden devices.

On running boot time Dell Diagnostics, it clearly said that the battery is not able to supply power to the GPU.
I removed the battery and still the laptop boots on Intel HD 4000. GPU missing. There have been couple of times when the bios did detect the GPU. Totally random.
Now the bios is only booting on Intel HD even on direct AC Power (battery removed). HDMI port does not work either, VGA is working. Weird.
Tested on two original dell AC adapters.
Any idea why the GPU won't start when on direct AC power?

I apologize if this has been posted before, I tried searching but couldn't find it.

About 3 weeks ago, my Dell Inspiron 600m running Windows XP Pro (32 bit) suddenly became unable to detect wireless networks in the area. I have a standard integrated wireless card (Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG) and all signs show that it is working properly, only it won't detect wireless networks that are clearly available.

Also, when I go into Wireless Network Connection Properties and hit "Configure" next to my wireless card, I get a pop-up notification stating "Adapter state not found in registry." I don't remember seeing this message in the past, but I can't really say when it started happening.

I have tried various networks in various locations, it doesn't detect anything. I have an updated driver (w29n51.sys & Netw2c32.dll) , I tried using system restore to roll back to before the problem began, no luck.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I can only get access to the internet using an Ethernet cable.

I had this problem before, but it just magically solved itself after about 20 minutes of not doing anything. But it's been a whole day now, and nothing seems to work.

When I go on device manager, under Network adapter, it only lists one:
Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller
And there's no exclamation mark or anything beside it.

I've tried:
-Restarting the computer
-System restore
-Restarting router
-System BIOS boot (A Dell representative walked me through the process)
-Download and installed wireless network driver adapters from Dell support page
-In device manager, tried to 'Scan for hardware changes'

I think something is wonky with my Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate Version.

When I booted up my PC, I got this:
This happened about a few times during the past week when I booted up my PC & it starts downloading drivers for my mouse & k/b again.
Yet this does not happen every single time when I reboot my PC.
My second problem is when I hook my printer to my PC via usb cable, my PC does not recognize it.
I hooked the printer up last week & it installed the drivers & it worked fine then, but now I want to use it again & it's not being recognized at all.
I get no options now to instal drivers for it or for Windows to search for it.
This also happens to a lot of devices.
I plug in a external hard drive that I already used on this PC a day ago & it searched for drivers again.
I plug in a mp3 player to charge it & get the same thing, search for drivers to recognized the thing.
Sometimes it looks for drivers, sometimes it doesn't.

The worst thing was after I tried charging my mp3 player, I hooked the usb cable to my PC & it crashed my PC & would not reboot at all!!!

I had to use Windows Startup Repair option.
It said

Quote:

hi guys,
I have a Dell Vostro 220 desktop that's been running fine. Unfortunately something seems to have gone wrong when I updated the BIOS via the Dell website a few minutes ago.

Once Windows XP starts, it LOOKS like it's in safe mode (huge icons, etc.), even though it's not.

What's more, my USB mouse NO LONGER works. It's not even powered on.

Once the PC restarts, or I go into the set-up (before Windows loads), the mouse is ON again -- but not when Windows starts.

Is there a way to "reset" the bios so I can get things working again?? PLEASE HELP ME.

cheers.

Its an old Dell Dimension. I've upgraded the cpu from 600 to 1100, given it more ram, a bigger hard drive and now I'm replacing the DVD which didn't work. The machine recognized the old DVD but now the new one I've put in.

Are there any tricks to this? I have the CD as the master and the DVD as the slave. That was the old configuration.

Hard drive is attached with a PCI slot.

This has been bugging the hell out of me I couldn't figure out why my battery wasn't recharging after I upgraded. I upgraded an old Dell Latitude D520 to windows 7 and at first the battery had a small charge left, but I knew it was at the end of its life anyways so when it didn't recharge again I figured it was just junk. So I just ordered a new battery. That's still not in yet but when I went to my BIOS looking for something else today I noticed the AC Adapter wasn't recognized and it was telling me to plug in the original 65w AC Adapter, however that's the one that is already plugged in. The ac adapter still powers the computer but it won't charge the battery. I'm guessing it has something to do with Windows 7's AC and ACPI adapters but I can't find any other drivers to try anywhere. Anyone have any solutions?

sorry one more thing..the battery isn't just not charging, it is also not recognized so I'd imagine that all the drivers under the Batteries directory in the device manager needs to be replaced...will the old xp drivers work in their place?

A:After clean install of Windows 7 old Dell AC adapter not recognized?

Regardless of OS, if the battery is in need of charging and the AC Adapter is plugged in, the battery shall charge even when the system is off. Therefore, you may check this, and if your system's battery is not charging while the notebook is off, there may be some sort of an issue with either battery or the AC adapter.

Hello,
Recently I bought the Dell Inspiron 7559 (gaming one).
It has the option to add a SSD drive. I bought a m.2 SSD 256gb drive from Plextor.
See link for the version. The BIOS and Windows both don't recognize the SSD.
I have put it in and out several times. Updated BIOS / Resetted BIOS. It just won't recognize it.
Do I have to tweak any settings in BIOS for the SSD slot to "activate"?
I thought this was a plug and play thing. How can I get this to work?
Note: I also have my HDD still plugged cuz it has everything on it (windows etc).
I want to convert windows to the SSD if it CONNECTS EVER.
SSD:
Help would be appreciate SOOO MUCH.

Thanks in regards.

A:Dell Inspiron 7559 m 2 SSD upgrade failed / not recognized

That's a PCIe SSD -- this system supports mSATA (SATA 6G), not PCIe.  You'll need to exchange the drive for an M.2 SATA/SATA6G version.

Running Windows XP, Dell 1700 printer.

I get a USB Device Not Recognized error when the printer is attached with USB, but when I connect it with a parallel cable it works fine. I have attached it to 3 separate XP machines, and I get the same scenario everytime. I've updated the printer drivers, i've reset the printer (turn it on with door open + continue and cancel buttons pushed til error light turns solid then releasing buttons and closing the door). I've tried connecting it to different USB ports, I've tried going through a USB hub, I've tried removing the powersave options on the on the usb controller under device manager.

I think it is an issue on the printer end, because when I connect the printer via USB to a separate machine, right away it says "USB Device Not Recognized" with no New Hardware prompts. And I've tried it on 3 machines, one install using the wizard, one install using the dell install cd (I didn't install it on the original, it was before my time here).

This printer used to work fine, then one day the user pulled the printer USB cable out of the PC in order to plug in a USB flash drive, then when finished, unplugged the flash and plugged the printer USB back in. But that was only the one machine, now the printer won't work (via USB) on any machine.

Any ideas?

A:Solved: Dell 1700 Printer USB not recognized, but parallel ok

It would appear that the USB on the printer is faulty and there likely is not easy fix for it. If you have warranty on it then thats really likely your only solution.

I purchased a new 500GB Samsung 850 EVO mSATA SSD for my Dell Latitude e5440 (running Windows 7 Pro).  The new drive was not visible in 'Computer', so I downloaded, installed, and ran the Samsung Magician software.
The Samsung software shows the drive is present.  And there was a "Validate" button - which I clicked - and now: "Drive Health Status: Good" and "Serial Number: Genuine" is displayed.
However the SSD is not visible when I double-click Computer, and the Samsung software states:
a. "AHCI Mode. Deactivated (IDE or RAID).  AHCI Mode is required for the best SSD performance."
b. SATA Interface N/A. Unable to detect SATA interface details.
c. OS Optimization N/A. OS optimization is only supported for disks using an OS drive.
Question 1: Will enabling this AHCI mode allow Windows to recognize the SSD?
Question 2: How do I do that?
Question 3: Will activating AHCI mode 'switch off' (disconnect) my 2.5" HDD?  (I want to keep Windows 7 on the 2.5" HDD, and install Windows 10 on the SSD to have a dual-boot system until I get used to Windows 10.)

A:Dell Latitude e5440 - Samsung 850 EVO mSATA SSD not recognized

1. Yes.
2.  Change it in system setup (F2 at powerup).
3.  You can dual boot but can't change the setup type to AHCI without reinstalling Windows onto the two drives  you want to use.  You will lose the contents of the hard drive when you do this.

I am a sole account/user (home-based and non-network) with system administrator privileges, except this status is not recognized under Windows Update > Change Settings > Important Updates. The option of selecting automatic updating
and an installation frequency/time is grayed out.  How do I fix?

A:Win7 Ultimate Sole User Administrator Privileges Not Recognized for Automatic Windows Updates

Hi KiDeb.
Did you have any changes prior this issue?
Could you confirm that Important Updates were installed before?
The possible solution could be this:
Hold WindowsKey + R
Type: ?regedit?
Hit Enter

Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU
Find AUOptions.
Right Click Modify

You can change the values data from 1 through 5:
1. Download updates but let me choose whether to install them
2. Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them
3. Download updates but let me choose whether to install them
4. Install updates automatically / Never Check For Updates
5. Enable the option box to choose manually

If this doesn't help, you can try this method, but make sure you backup the registry files as you are doing this step on your own and I am not responsible for the possible issue -
Backup registry files in Windows 7
Click ?Start? button.
Select ?Run?.
Type ?regedit? without quotes in the Run window and hit Enter.

Navigate to this location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU
In the right-pane, delete these two values ?AUOptions? and ?NoAutoUpdate?.

Then navigate to this location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\WindowsUpdate
In the right-pane, delete the value ?DisableWindowsUpdateAccess?.
Restart the computer and then try to change the Auto Update Settings.

I have acquired a slightly used D620 however the touch-pad and track stick do not seem to be working at all. Neither of the buttons on the touch pad work either. My external USB mouse is functioning perfectly. I have reinstalled drivers from Dell Support, tried drivers from other models, and reinstalled Windows when I noticed the hardware manager wasn't even detecting the touch-pad at all. I also tried to change around the touch-pad options in the BIOS settings but nothing has led to success. My next step is to remove and reconnect the touch-pad and track stick/ keyboard. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks a bunch, in advance, for your help.

A:Dell D620 touchpad/track stick not functioning and not recognized

Solved

I opened up the laptop lifted the keyboard and noticed the poorly designed touchpad cable attachment system. It is so closely stuck to the palm rest/ keyboard boarder that it disconnects from the motherboard with the slightest lift of the palm rest. My guess that an inexperienced Geek Squad member probably cleaned out the unit and didn't bother to check for the attachment of the wire to the motherboard. Anyway, my problem is solved.

Hi,

I have a Dell XPS L702X laptop with integrated webcam, and I have a webcam software failure that is recurring.

About 3 weeks ago, I was using Skype, and all of a sudden, Skype could no longer "find my webcam." I confirmed this to be the case by opening Skype>Tools>Options>Video settings, which states "Skype couldn't find a webcam."

I reconfirmed there was a software failure by opening Dell Webcam Central which showed a message stating "No Supported Webcam."

I used Dell's Troubleshooter, which instructed me to un-install Dell Webcam Central and re-install it. After re-installing, the webcam worked perfectly for about 1-2 weeks (both Dell Webcam Central worked and Skype webcam worked), but it has failed again. After a successful Skype on Thursday, I turned on Skype again Saturday, and the same problem is happening. Skype and Dell Webcam Central cannot find a webcam.

I tried re-installing the device driver, and the message I get from the installation wizard is: "Errors were encountered while installing the software for your devices." The "status column" says "Install failed."
Does anyone have any advice on how I can avoid this error?

I'm afraid to un-install and re-install Dell Webcam Central software again, because Dell limits owners to only 3 installations.

Thanks so much for your time and expertise!

Hello, all. The hdd on my Dell XPS recently failed, and, not being a smart person, I did not create a backup. I reinstalled Windows 7 onto the machine, and it installed and boots correctly. When I attempt to connect to the internet, Network Diagnostics gives the following error:

Windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter. If you have a network adapter, you will need to re-install the driver.

So I attempted to install the drivers with ProWin64. This gives the following error:

Cannot install drivers. No Intel(R) Adapters are present in this computer.

The adapter is listed under 'Other devices' in my device manager, with a yellow triangle. My Ethernet controller, PCI Simple Communications Controller, SM Bus Controller, USB Controller, and another Unknown device also have the same problem, but I'm not as worried about those. The hardware IDs given for the device are as follows:

PSI\VEN_8086&DEV_0091&SUBSYS_52218086&REV_34
PSI\VEN_8086&DEV_0091&SUBSYS_52218086
PSI\VEN_8086&DEV_0091&CC_028000
PSI\VEN_8086&DEV_0091&CC_0280

However, I have no idea what to do with this information. What's my next step here?

ORIGINAL PROBLEM:

I tried installing the following from the dell website “Firmware Flash for HLDS GCE-8400B HH 40X CDRW Version A02”
The download created a bootable floppy. When I tried to install, the installation went to about 75% then froze. After re-starting the computer, I get the following black screen:

Secondary hard disc drive 0 not found
Secondary hard disc drive 1 not found
F1 to continue
F2 setup

F1 boots the computer, slowly, and after booting, the cdrw is not recognized at all in my computer

All other discs and drives are recognized

Any suggestions on how to correct the problem?

NEW PROBLEM

Based on some recomendations, I removed the CD drive and booted the computer with only the dvd drive. The computer boots faster but still hangs with the smae error message regarding drives not detected. After booting, the computer does not recognize the dvd drive at all. It was working before removing the CD drive. Seems to be a problem in the bios form the original firmware flash update (unsucessful)

Any ideas on how to get the system to recognize the dvd drive. I can do with out the CD drive if I riuined it on the flash update.

Thanks for any help!

Hello, this is my first post here, Im hoping someone may know why the following is happening...

I recently flashed my bios to the latest version. Everything went very smoothly and the system is running great. The only problem I ran into is that now my operating system (Vista x32 Ultimate) no longer is able to detect my RAM or CPU when I view them in System. This is rather strange to me as the OS rates my system hardware 5.9. I would not be bothered by this except that I do a substantial amount of gaming on this system. Many new games (such as Hellgate: London and Crysis SP Demo) scan the system hardware and will lock the user out of advanced graphics settings if the OS returns a hardware speed value below the recommended specifications. Since Vista is reporting that I have a 0.0ghz processor and 0mb of ram, I am unable to crank my games up now

My question is, does anyone here know how to force the OS to recognize my hardware so that it is properly displayed in system. (I am aware that Vista x32 can only detect 2.85gb of ram, regardless of if you have more installed). My system is reporting 0.0mb.

My specifications are as follows:
QX6800 @ 2.93
4GB DDR2 PC9200 @ 1150mhz (2.4V)
8800 Ultra 768mb SLI OC (630mhz)
Asus Striker Extreme BIOS: 1305 (latest)
Vista Ultimate x32

Thanks for any and all help guys!

Ok I have read on here the post regarding the fix about this however I everything applies to windows XP. I need to know if the fix would work on windows 7 just the same?? Please help. The keyboard and mouse are USB and are not recognized in anyway. Thanks a bunch!!

A:Keybaord and Mouse not recognized on Dell Dimension 9150 running Windows 7

Can you post a link to the other post?

Having worked on hundreds of Dell's, I can say that we ran into this problem where occasionally, a USB keyboard or mouse would not be recognized by BIOS, every time. Since we had stacks of keyboards and boxes of mice, we would just grab a different one and try that. Usually that would do it. Once in a while, changing the BIOS to try to boot to CD first would work so I always thought it was a timing issue with BIOS. Nothing to be done about it other then search for the latest BIOS upgrade and take the chance of ruining the mobo if it failed.

So, try these tricks:

1) Set BIOS to boot from CD first (but leave it empty).
2) Check that your USB setting in BIOS is set for Legacy USB.
3) Try different keyboards and mice if possible.

The biggest hassles I had with the Dell's was getting a USB/wireless mouse or keyboard to work. Sometimes gave up and went with the wired USB devices.

Once you post the link, I'll go check that other fix.

Dear All,

many users are now testing AV and running malware.
As we know, AV do what they can in detecting what bad happens on the device...most of them and most of the time they don't detect all....

For a windows system:

-how do you detect system changes (registry, startup, DNS, settings etc)?
-how do you detect if and where new files were dropped?

You can scan with other serious AV, use Winpatrol, autoruns, check appdata (sub) folders for "new entries" (but how to detect new files in a folder with hundreds of old files if e.g the creation date is "faked" by the malware?)...any other suggestion?

This could help many to double check the effectiveness of the used AV and, in general, to help to better check the system for unwanted changes.

Thank you

i recently decided to install a 2nd HD. for some reason my sustem won't detect it. Here's how I have it set up.

Primary IDE Slot: HD #1 working fine
Secondary IDE Slot: Master CD-ROM working fine
Slave HD #2 not working

any ideas would be appreciated. the first time i installed the 2nd HD it worked fine, so i shut down my computer so i could put it back together and when i booted back up it wasn't working. i've tried every combination i could think of as far as which drive was the master or slave and what not. they are different HDs, and i've read some HDs may not work with each other, dunno if that's the problem or not.

A:system won't detect 2nd hard drive

Here's what I'd suggest you do, and then post back if it didn't work:
1. HD#1 stays Master on Primary IDE Channel
2. HD#2 becomes Master on Secondary IDE Channel
3. CD#1 becomes Slave on Secondary IDE Channel

You could change the 3rd one and make the CD slave on the primary.

Make sure you have the jumpers correct, sometimes those little diagrams can be reversed from what it appears, the diagrams are right, but if you translate them directly down to your jumper you'd be backwards (in some cases), so always look for an indicator on there such as Pin 1 for the ide cable.

I know you've gone through the jumpers previously, but try setting it up like I said and double checking you have the jumpers correct. Alternatively you could set all the jumpers to CS and hope it works, but I've never had much faith in CS.

So hello. I am new to this forum and have a question for everyone. I have a custom built machine with a asus motherboard and windows vista 64 on it. I recently ran into a issue of that when I power my machine up it will detect my hard drives (i have a primary 300 gig and a secondary 100 gig). They are both IDE. Now the have power going to them as I tried a different power source. My question is were should I start to investigate this problem. Could it be the bios, the IDE cable, or the motherboard itself. Thanks and I promise to contribute to this forum instead of just coming with problems. Thankyou and hello all.

A:my system won't detect my hard drive

You need to start with the configuring of the HardDrives

Does 1 work by itself?
Hae you set CS jumper location on bothe HardDrives?
Are they both on seperate IDE channels?
Have you checked the IDE (and power) cables are secure?
Have you tried replacing the IDE Cables?

My personal system and various other computers Can't detect my "BUFFALO" 3.0 TB "SATA" External Hard Drive And Backup? I'm attempting to recover all my files. Apparently my Hard Drive Malfunctioned? I read; " "If your system is unable to detect the hard drive then the issue could be the result of disk controller failure. This would categorize under physical data loss. " I installed a "Data Recovery" program with hopes, to recover all my files from this faulty "Hard Drive" however, there is no visible drive to run a scan on? Can someone explain to me how I can successfully recover all my files by physically removing the External Shell in order that I could fix the "Disk Controller?, Attach the "Hard Drive" to a Hard Drive Docking Station, or USB 3.0 to SATA or IDE Hard Drive Adapter Converter.

I would appreciate some knowledge on this issue.

A:System can not detect hard drive

If the drive controller on the disk has failed NOTHING (short of a DATA recovery company) can help you.
You just might possibly be lucky if you replace the controller card, but even that is unlikely to help as the sector mapping and such are held on the card.

But now,the download and surfing speed is significantly reduced and the download speed is 48kbps
I don't know why,but I think because of using torrent protocol(to download a file),my system is hacked and is a zombi,now.

Any ideas about such reduced speed, friends?
If the system has become a zombie, how can i rescue it?

You may want to have a in depth look at your internet connections with this tool & do some investigating.

TCPView for Windows

Quote:
TCPView is a Windows program that will show you detailed listings of all TCP and UDP endpoints on your system, including the local and remote addresses and state of TCP connections. On Windows Server 2008, Vista, and XP, TCPView also reports the name of the process that owns the endpoint. TCPView provides a more informative and conveniently presented subset of the Netstat program that ships with Windows. The TCPView download includes Tcpvcon, a command-line version with the same functionality.

Download/upload speed can fluctuate due to other problems. The speed for my entire area was reduced to a crawl a while back for about 3 days until they fixed a server problem in the next town.

The tool is free, use it see if you have an excessive amount of connections.

Also, it wouldn't hurt to run a scan with Malwarebytes:

Hi,
I am having a Toshiba Satellite A105 - S 4114 with Windows XP, SP3. I was using the LAN & Wireless network adaptor without any problem. A week back Windows XP got updated & from then LAN & Wifi network adaptor are not getting detected.
In the device manage both the adaptors are not preset. If I add the adaptors from the ‘Add Hardware’ its getting added as Intel PRO/1000 PL network connection#2 & Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG network connection#2 but its not working.

I am using the following adaptors with version (working):-
LAN network adaptor: Intel PRO/1000 PL network connection, Version 9.2.24.0

Wireless network adaptor: Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG network connection, Version 10.1.0.13

I tried to download the new drives for both the adaptors, but nothing is working.
Please let me know the solution

Thanks in advance,

A:Cannot detect network adaptor in my system.

Hiya Vini_2603.

It`s odd that they`ve disappeared from Device Manager and not just flagged up as a problem item. Do you have anything at all under Network Adapters?

In Dev Man, right-click the computers name at the very top and `Scan for hardware changes` to see if that comes up with anything.

The drivers are no good if the adapters aren`t being seen to start with !

Hello, I am getting the same thing show up on my p7-1003w desktop. My computer froze in the middle of me recording music and then would not re-boot. I got this message after I inserted the recovery windows 7 disk. I recently upgraded to windows 10, idk if that matters. I did a hp vision hardware diagnostic test and everything passed. When I try to turn on the computer without the recovery it takes me to a screen that ask me to choose a style of keyboard layout but I noticed my mouse is not even working, it is all very strange. The message read REM couldnt perform the screening because couldnt detect 2 HDDs on this system. Can you please help?

I bought a new Dell i3847 and it has Windows 7 Pro 64bit factory installed on it.
I wanted to do a full system backup, but the Dell Backup and Recovery software will not allow me to do a system backup.  Further, I have been unable to create a system recovery disk using Dell Backup and Recovery.
I can't use the Dell provided system disk for recovery because it is clearly marked Windows 8.1

1) Why is a Win 8.1 disk included with a Win 7 Pro 64bit system?
2) What is wrong with Dell Backup and Recovery that it:
a) can't create a factory recovery disk
b) won't allow me to create a system back up so I can return it to the factory state

Help!

It's been 2.5 hours and it is still "initializing disk" to create a factory recovery.  It usually fails somewhere during initialization or writing.    Spending hours for each failed attempt to create a factory recovery disk is NOT GOOD!

A:Help! - New Dell i3847 - Windows 7 Pro - Dell Recovery Disk is Win 8.1 & DBaR won't let me do a System Backup

It has now been 4 hours and Dell Backup and Recovery is sitting on "Initializing Disk" under create Factory Recovery Media

I can't have it take hours and hours, then fail and then try again.... then take hours and hours.... then fail ... then hours ... then fail...

Help!
