Lenovo G51-35 Out of battery and will not charge. ...

Q: Lenovo G51-35 Out of battery and will not charge. ...

Okay so I have a 6 month old G51-35 Laptop that I've been using for gaming. Then earlier this morning when I was playing, the battery went down to 25%. I plugged it in and it didn't charge. I wondered why, and then I thought the power in the outlet was just not flowing so I'll just plug it into a different one later, and as soon as it hit 10% I panicked. I kept searching up solutions, but nothing popped up. So I then told my brother, by the time the laptop was at 1%, and he did some tests on the laptop. A couple hours later he told me that he doesn't know what the problem is, and so I started really freaking out. I searched up the prices for a new battery pack, but there wasn't anything for the g51-35. I then looked at the laptop prices, and it was a whole load of bull because the laptop itself cost $559. My parents would kill me if they found out, but I don't know what to do next. I think the laptop is overheated, but I don't have the tools to be able to clean it. Please help. Thanks.

Hi CheekyB and welcome to the community,

Does it run ok plugged in? It is just not charging?

If it does, then it probably is a bad battery and there is a year warranty on the battery.

Hi guys,  My battery is no longer going above three percent when plugged in. I have a lenovo y40, the warranty just expired last month, and lenovo is not really helping. I'm very frustrated. Everything was fine, until I turned my computer on this morning and realized it wasn't storing power. After reading around on the internet I determined a few things. A) The battery itself is fine, I ran a battery report... and it shows a sudden drop from 97% to 0% to 2%, and then back to 100% in a matter of minutes. Battery Log   < Click to see my log B) I think the issue is primarily a software one, becuase when I disable microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery in device manager my computer still runs for hours at 0% without being plugged in. Anyone else have this issue or know a solution? I'm a college student and I need this laptop to work on the fly for me. It's barely been over a year, and im already having issues.... someone help I can't afford a new lp!!!!

A:Lenovo Y40 Battery wont charge.

In response to customer reports of unexpected battery gauge behavior on Y40-70 and Y40-80 laptops, Lenovo determined the battery gauge software is performing as expected. The unusual gauge results being reported are a reflection of the battery reaching end of life.

Lenovo has released a Service TIP to assist customers with obtaining battery replacements under warranty, or if out of warranty, to find a replacement battery from Lenovo-approved vendors. The Service TIP can be found here: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/sf16-I0023

The part numbers for Y40-70/80 batteries are:
Y40 SP/A L13M4P01 7.4V48Wh 4cell bty (Y40-70/Y40-80) 121500248
Y40 LG L13L4P01 7.4V48Wh 4cell bty (Y40-70/Y40-80) 121500249 substitute part 121500251
Y40 CP/C L13C4P01 7.4V48Wh 4cell bty (Y40-70/Y40-80) 121500259 substitute part 121500251

To determine which battery came with your Y40 notebook, instructions for removing the bottom cover can be found in the Hardware Maintenance Manual pdf here. An alternate to opening your system (which does not void warranty) is to search for batteries using the model/product number located on the bottom cover.

Hey Lenovo Forum:

I'm having a battery charging problem that seems slightly different from any on this forum so far. I just acquired a T430 running Windows 7 (64-bit) like a charm. After a few issues with the audio drivers, everything has been running smoothly.

Abruptly, yesterday, when I plugged it into the wall socket (the same socket that it had sucessfully charged on earlier) it failed to charge. Thinking it was the outlet, I tested it. The outlet and adapter are both working fine (the adapter powers the computer no problem with the battery removed from the system). The lock switch on the battery is in the propper position (i've tried both). The battery is not overheated (it's cool to the touch). I tried removing everything and holding the power button (apparently that discharges some built up charge in the system) then reconnecting the battery and AC adapter, nothing.

I just downloaded the power manager which (when the laptop is, in fact, running off of AC power (the battery charge indicator hasn't draining in hours of continuous use) reads:

I've had this laptop for about a year and recently I've been having issues with my laptop's battery. For the last two weeks the battery has been draining to 1% when putting it to sleep mode, even if it was fully charged. And I've noticed that the battery after fully charging has been lasting less and less. According to Lenovo Settings the battery can only store 11.42% of it's original full charge capacity.Print Screen of Lenovo Settings. Is my battery dead? Is there a way to revive it or who do I contact for a replacement? (I still have my warranty) Thank you.

Dear Sir  Welcome to Lenovo Community first of all lets do small troubleshooting steps, if its working ok if no so you have to deliver your device to the Service center to replace the battery if it still under warranty. ( find the list of service center link at the end of the message )if you do not have the power manager or power management you can download it from the below link:http://support.lenovo.com/eg/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/Lenovo-Y-Series-laptops/Y40-80/downloa...after installing you have an option inside called battery gauge reset, you have to make it night when u do not use the laptop cause this operation will take more than 6 hours to full charge the battery then difull charge then full charge again to refresh your battery, after you do that try your machine, if the battery still drains fast so you can visit the nearest service center to your place. https://support.lenovo.com/eg/en/contactus/supportphonelist Best Of Luck

I have bought this Lenovo laptop some months ago, but I still haven't figured out a way to change the charge for my battery from 59% to 100% in Ubuntu. I know that is possible by installing the Lenovo power management utility on Windows, but unfortunately, that would require me to wipe my system, install Windows, and then reinstall my system. Through a web search, I have found that it is possible to get a full charge by resetting the CMOS, but I have not found instructions on how to do it on the Lenovo G40-80. I have tried shutting down, disconnecting the AC and the battery, and holding the power button for 1 minute, but it did not work! Another tip I have found in the Arch Linux forums, and tried without success was shutting down the laptop, removing the battery with the AC plugged in, holding the power button for 20 seconds, placing the battery again, holding more 20 seconds, removing the battery, holding more 20 seconds, powering on the laptop, and then reinserting the battery again... I'm going on a long trip tonight, and having a full charge would be extremely important to me! Thank you for your attention!

Hi All, It seems many people are having this issue as I scour this forum. My Lenovo y40 is less than a year old, so still on warranty. It recently (May 19th) began to have battery problems. It shows 100%, Charging, when plugged in. But, as soon as I unplug the charger the battery drains quickly or shuts off immediately. Other times, the battery will hold its charge and stay on for a few hours. It's very intermittent, it seems like the laptop has trouble reading the actual battery level. I have tried everything already recommended on this forum, reinstalled drivers, reset the battery guage through Energy Manager. What gives? The laptop is too new to have a faulty battery, and it was working perfectly up until a few days ago.Anyone else having this issue, do I really need to use the warranty already? Argh...

Hi guys, I've had my Yoga 900 since December 2015 and I enjoy this ultrabook.  I am concerned about the battery life though. The specs say up to 9 hours of battery life, but based on my usage I would have to say that I am only confident of 6 hours worth of charge. My typical use is as follows: 1) Approximately 75% screen brightness (225 nits)2) Combo of WiFi with multiple Google Chrome tabs open, video and music usage mixed in my typical day. Those of you with the Yoga 900, would you say that this is normal or typical? Thanks, Nik

Hi,I have a Lenovo Z50-70 running Windows 8.1. The laptop is relatively new, bought in Jan. 2015.Some time ago, the original battery suddenly started to have a problem where it would say 45% available, plugged in, not charging. No matter what fixes I tried (after looking through a lot of articles, posts, comments, etc.), nothing made the battery start charging again. It always stays at 45%. Also the battery light/indicator on the front of the laptop is always blinking white. So I got a new battery, put it in hoping that it would work and charge up to 100%, but the new battery is having exactly the same problem as the original old one! It will only charge up to 45%, then it says plugged in not charging. The battery light is again always blinking white. What do I do? How can this be fixed? What's going on?Appreciate any help. Thank you very much.

A:Lenovo Z50-70 battery plugged in not charging, won't charge no matter what I do

Sounds like it may be either the charger or the charging port at fault here.  However, I have a couple of questions...1. Does the battery charge increase at all if you leave the machine turned off and plugged in, or does it still report 45%?2. Does it power on when only on battery power?3. Was the new battery a new, genuine Lenovo part? There seem to be a lot of people reporting similar issues with this model unfortunately.

After my friend's laptop wouldn't run on battery power OR charge the battery I tried many "fixes."

Shockingly none worked that I found.

Only one thing worked for me to my surprise.

A last ditch effort was to open up the laptop (sony pcg-81114L) and disconnect the cmos battery for a few minutes to reset the CMOS.

To my surprise, when powered on, the battery instantly showed it was charging AND when removing the power plug the battery POWERS the laptop now! (and I'd thought I was wasting my time.)

Worked with an off brand battery also.

Many times this has saved many computers that have odd "unsolvable" things wrong with them.

Surely someone else has done this also but I haven't seen it posted anywhere to my knowledge.

Thank GOD for bringing the idea to remembrance!

Best thing to do is to first understand some of our battery technology - check out this document: HP Notebook PCs - Understanding Lithium-Ion and Smart Battery Technologyhttp://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00596784  Then to test your battery follow the instructions in this document: HP Notebook PCs - Testing and Calibrating the Battery (Windows 10)http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04700771

Hello fellow techies,
I have a situation with my Compaq Evo N600c battery or something in that directions, so I need possible solutions. My laptop needs to be plugged in at all times, which makes it frustrating because its a portable laptop. If it becomes unplugged the laptop will turn off within 10 seconds flat. I fear that this will, if it hasnt already done so, mess up my electric circuits among other components. Can any of you suggest or recommend options I can use to diagnose the situation. I would like to find out what the problem is, whether I should buy a new battery or some component or prong that I need to replace? Thanks for the feed back!

A:Battery will not charge or hold charge?!?!

Yup, sounds like a battery problem.

First, make sure the battery has a charge. Most laptop batteries have a button on them somewhere you can push that will give you the power level. Alternativly, there should be a utility in windows or the BIOS that will allow you to check the power level.

If the battery has no charge and isn't charging, then replace it with a known good one and see if it will charge up when the laptop is plugged in.

If the good battery won't charge up, then there is a problem with your motherboard.

If the battery has charge but won't power the system, then there is a problem with your motherboard too.

If this is the case, then the best you can do is contact the laptop manufacturer and get them to replace the motherboard.

Ok this might be easy..it might not (COMPAQ M2105)

I ended up replacing my motherboard for a model with more features (SD readers blah blah).

I took it all apart and put it all back with the new board in...now when i go into windows (and even before while booting)...the orange lights would come on for a second...then beging to flicker

while in windows...it just will either not charge the battery..or flicker from AC to battery

i CAN power the unit on with the battery alone, and i CAN power the unit with the cord alone...

lastly, my old motherboard (which had a HD connector problem)...still WILL charge the battery...so i'm sure its not the battery...i don't think...

i also dont' think its the AC adapter since it is the same piece I used on both motherboards.....

what to do................

A:compaq M2105 laptop - battery will not charge, flickers from AC/battery

Hopefully you are experienced in working on and repairing laptops/notebooks... and you carefully handeled the replacement motherboard and didn't damage it. Repairing laptops takes considerable skill and caution.

It does sound like the "new" motherboard is bad unfortunately. How did you handle the "old" operating system restore to the "new" motherboard?

Hello.
I've been using a Dell inspiron 1545 from about 3 years now and exactly after 2 years of my buy, the battery failed and it started showing me to replace the battery and always notified me about contacting dell for a new battery.
I didn't take this of much concern so i just ignored the message and kept on using my battery with my adapter plugged in. After 4-5 months of such usage, My battery completely failed and doesn't even offer me even a minute of backup, when i remove the power socket. Then i realized the importance of a new battery and then bought a new battery from Dell.
Its the same battery with the same specs and also the same family type. After i removed my defected battery, I replaced my new bought Dell battery and realized that my battery is working fine. its charging well but at some time, it says "Plugged in, But not charging" Which is rare for any new battery, which is bought brand new.

This is how it looks now after i remove the AC adapter plug and when i depend on the battery backup. it is providing me a backup, but I see a yellow exclamatory mark beside it. Which I think should not be present. it also says "Low battery" when there's already 99% of battery left!
I've also followed some online steps
1) updated by BIOS to the latest  2) Followed some other steps like uninstalling the battery ACI in the device manager and etc...
i would love to get this problem solved. I'm using a PA-12 family adapt... Read more

A:Bought a new dell battery and still my laptop battery doesn't charge!

Hi Utkarsh. I Actually FIXED this problem months back. and I exactly want to help you on this so that you can fix it yourself too..
the problem which is creating your battery to show an exclamatory mark is your power settings.
so follow these steps to get rid of that sign and a perfectly working battery.
1) Click on your battery icon (left click) you should see an option called " More power options" at the bottom of the popup.
click "More power options"
2) Now you will be taken to your control panel where you can see all of your power plans and under each plan, you will see an option called "Change plan settings"
3) Click on "Change plan settings" for your active power plan. Now you will get redirected to another control panel window, where you can see two kind of power options to get adjusted. that is, when you battery is plugged and when your battery is unplugged.
4) Don't touch those options, just click on "Change advanced power settings" at the bottom left of that window. THIS IS THE AREA WHERE WE NEED TO FIX!
5)After you click on "Change advanced power setttings", you will see a POWER options popup, go to the bottom and then you can see something called "Battery" with a plus sign on the left. click it.
6) Now you just have to change the levels for the following values
--> Critical battery level ( you can change it to 10%)

HP g6-1b60us Notebook PCHere is the situation and symptoms. Battery not charging. Battery icon indicates battery being charged, but it sits at 5%. Have bought a replacement HP battery and that battery will not charge also (it sits at 50%, which I assume is the initial charge it came with). Run the HP Support Assistant and both batteries fail the test saying that cell 4 is bad (cells 1 to 3 have charge, but cell 4 has a 0 reading, even in the new battery). (Is there a problem accessing/charging cell 4?)When the battery is installed and the AC adaptor is unplugged, and the laptop is turned off, the battery charge LED shows a white LED (red/amber indicates that it is charging the battery); now the only time the LED goes out is when the battery is physically removed. Before the problem began, the battery charge LED would be off when the battery was installed and the charger was not being used. Now the battery charge LED goes off only when the battery is physically removed. What I have tried:Cleaned the contacts.Bought a new HP battery.Tried the complete discharge method of turning the laptop off, removing the power cord and battery and holding the power on key for over 30 seconds.Have done safe restarts.Reset to HP recommended settings.Suggestions/recommendations?

I get this error message.

This problem might be solved by:

But I am using a 65W Dell Adapter that I got with my laptop.
BTW, I tried the steps for disc AC >> Start>>Uninstall MS ACPI >> Insert battery>> Restart. This process did not yield any favorable results.

Please help!!!

Battery Issue - Lenovo V570 (Laptop) - Battery Model L09S6Y02

First off I for the most part do not use the battery. It is normally detached from the laptop. I only attach it to periodically charge it and test prior existing charges' performance.

O.K. here is the problem. I attach battery attachment, computer does not make it to the window screen more often than not. When it does, it freezes at the please wait loading screen.

I rarely use the battery at all, but I want all my equipment up and functional. It's life should still be good for I periodically recharge it. I think since I've had the laptop I've only recharged it a total of 6 or 7 times and that's been a year or so.

I, for the moment at least have the battery working power adapter attached. What did I do? I uninstalled Avast (freeware version) ?

I learned from prior experience that running two of any system utility software can cause problems, but it normally restricts itself to what it is protecting. Then I remembered: "If you remove the possible whatever is left however in probable must be the truth."

Next phase of testing is test the battery on it's own.

I recently purchased two battery's for different dell laptops. One laptop has a flashing red battery sensor light on the laptop. It keeps appearing but with the old battery it did not appear. I don't know what this means.
this laptop is a Dell XPS M148

The other laptop was working fine and then one day it did not detect the ac adapter so it would not charge. Then we believed that the battery had died because every time I unplugged the charger the laptop would instantly turn off. So I bought a new battery hoping that was the problem but it wasn't. The laptop still wont charge and every day the battery percent keeps decreasing. My dad thinks that the charge card is the problem, and it is the reason why the laptop won't charge. I'm not sure what is though and what I should do.

Hi.

I've bought Dell Xps 15,9550 and it's amazing, but the problem is I can't plug off the battery, and I use my laptop all the time "literally" and I was a little bit disappointed because I want to keep my battery in a good condition, untli I knew about Dell Command Configure Wizard, which gives you an option to change the way your battery is charging, and there are 5 ways: Standard Charge, Express Charge, AC Use, Auto Charge, Custom Charge, but I really don't know what's the best for my condition.
Like I said I use my laptop all the time and I'm afraid that if I kept the laptop charging while using it all the time, the battery may get in a bad condition.
And sorry for my English it's not my mother tongue.
Thank you very much.

Hey all, I've been having some issues with my battery for my lap top.  It will not charge at all and I feel the startup is very slow because of it.  If I keep the lap top plugged in, it will run somewhat normally, but the second the plug comes out, everything shuts down. I've ran 2 seperate diagnostic checks, one through the HP Solution Center, and the other through the F2 start up menu.  Both of them are saying that a battery is not detected.  I can assure you, there is one in there. Are there any other tests I can run to figure out the nature of my battery issues, or do I just need to suck it up and purchase a new battery?  Could it also have something to do with the charging cable?  The only thing wrong with the cable is the small, copper pin in the center has broken off.  But, when I plug the cable in, the lap top recognizes it.  Is that small pin even important? Any answers to any of my questions would be greatly appreciated.

Out of no where my battery will not recharge!! It shows it is plugged in and should be charging yet...NADA! Anyone ideas? My machine is not even a month old!

A:My battery won't charge!!

The battery probably died on you, maybe a fuse in the battery charging circuit is blown for some reasons. If you are still within 12 months warranty, then you can get it replaced.

Stella1,

It sounds like the new battery may be defective possibly. Which system do you have that is experiencing this issue?

My Dell vostro 1510's battery is not charging beyond 92%.What may be the problem

A:battery charge

Hi JITH IN,
When was the last time the battery charged for 100%? Are you using an original Dell adapter for this model? Is the adapter frayed? When the adapter is plugged in to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Does the system overheat? Does the battery get very hot? If so, remove the battery and let it cool down to room temperature for about 2 hours and then try connecting and charging the battery.
Update the BIOS - http://dell.to/1G6xT8d
Restart and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS and the battery health(if available).
Remove the battery and check the battery health meter by pressing the battery gauge.
If the battery is old and is not durable, then you could get the battery replaced.
Assuming there is no warranty, then you could contact our team to get a quote for a battery (if in stock) - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ
You could also get the battery from a 3rd party Dell parts seller - http://bit.ly/1tq2f31
My personal suggestion, is that, if you are using the system in one place, then you could continue using the system with the adapter plugged in - as a desktop machine and that you could invest your money on a new machine.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

I have a Dell Inspiron B 130 Laptop that I broke the screen on. I used it with a monitor for several months and did not unplug it or remove the battery. I replaced the screen to use as a laptop again and saw the battery would not charge. This was confirmed by the blinking orange light which according to Dell means a bad battery. I replaced the battery and the light showed it charging but the battery meter showed no progress. When I would unplug the adapter the computer would shut off. I bought a new charger hoping that was the problem but It also will not charge the battery. In short I have a new battery and charger and an indicator light that shows charging but it does not actually charge. Any ideas?

I have an eee pc netbook (Windows XP Home) and can't get the battery to charge. At this point I can't even turn the machine on. The A/C adapter plugs in fine and the blue light on the adapter stays on. Every so often when I plug the adapter in a message box will pop-up saying I'm running on battery mode and sometimes if I giggle the cord, the message box will say a/c mode. My first thought is that there is possibly a short in the cord (?). This is my first laptop, so I don't have a lot of experience with batteries. Could it be possible I need a new battery? I've had this for a couple of years now. Normally when I use it, I run it plugged in so as not to run the battery down.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

A:eee pc battery won't charge

Hello,

Two things come to mind.

It may be the DC socket connector that you plug the charger into. (especially because you say it changes when you wiggle it)

Also, have you tried running the computer without the battery plugged in, with just the charging adapter, to see if that works? That would resolve a faulty battery question.

Hi there, I have had my computer for about 5 years, and so when the battery finally stopped working, I figured it was time for a new one. I bought a new battery, and it works, however it won't charge. The port to charge my comptuer recently broke and I got that fixed, but now the new batterty won't charge. Are those two things related, or is there something I can do?

A:Battery Won't Charge

I would say it is possible that the power port is broken again, or not fixed properly the first time, if the battery puts out its charge it should be able to take a charge, meaning the circut boards onboard the battery should be good.

I would suggest you to perform Flee Power ? remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer. Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect the battery and AC adapter to turn ON the computer.
Get into BIOS and load defaults, save and exit.

Then the next day the laptop said it was charging when plugged in but the battery continued to drain until it won't turn on anymore. I checked that the fuse hadn't blown in the charger and also opened up the laptop and couldn't see any burns near the charge socket.

I bought a Yoga 700 and after a couple of months it stopped charging and wouldn't turn on. When pressing the power button the light flashed amber a couple of times but that was it. I returned it for repair and the repair notes said the BIOS had been upgraded and it was working again. Unfortunately the person performing the repair sliced the top of the laptop with what looks to have been a Stanley knife but they didn't say anything. I returned it and got a replacement. Now, a few weeks later I have exactly the same symptoms with the new Yoga 700. Is this a known problem with the 700 because it seems too much of a coincidence? I'm probably just going to ask for my money back unless someone can tell me a quick fix? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hi Patton370,

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you download and run BatteryInfoView to get a rough info and status about the battery.
   - Sample image

If you see a wide gap between the Full Charged Capactity and the Designed Capacity then it's likely that one of the battery cells is wearing down (it maybe due to heat, daily use, and age). In this scenario, the battery cell(s) lose the charge capacity faster than others cells.

In addition, take a note of thee battery features:

Voltage tap Most consumer equipment treats a stack of cells as a single battery, but this can be dangerous in lithium ion. As the cells age, some will lose capacity faster than others -- and if one cell becomes flat before the others, it can actually start to charge in reverse, which is a highly dangerous condition. The internal circuitry of the battery pack thus has to monitor cells separately and shut down the whole pack if one cell is too far out of balance.

Battery charge state monitor Many lithium ion packs have a built-in meter consisting of a row of LEDs and a button. To accurately report the state of charge, the pack electronics has to keep a record of the current in and out of the cell, as well as a model of its behaviour. This can become more inaccurate over time; more modern cells will recalibrate themselves.

The false 100% charge that you're getting is possibly due to the inaccurate reading of the battery... Read more

I recently purchased an x230 and everything is perfect but the battery fit.  It moves up and down slightly.  I know there are many posts in the lenovo forums for all different models that the battery fits lose in "x" model and solutions of putting paper / foam / tape to make the battery fit tighter.   What I'm wondering is if anyone has actually had the problem fixed by lenovo.  I've read a few posts where a user has had the base piece of the case replaced (where the battery fit's into) and that has solved the problem.  I'm still within my return period on my x230 and am awaiting a call back from tech support to see if there is anything they will do but I don't think I will keep it if they can't fix it.   I'm just curious has anyone actually had luck by replacing the base piece.  From what i've read a replacement battery hasn't worked for anyone.  Also, I know everyone says its by design for thermal purposes but I haven't actually seen any official confirmation of this from lenovo.   Thanks.

A:Battery Loose / Battery wiggle in x230 and LENOVO ...

As a follow up, I'm just curious if this is a widespread issue?  Anyone have loose battery in their x230 / x220?  I'm not talking about it falling out...but just a few millimeters of wiggle room.  Basically when i pick mine up or place it down, I can feel / hear the battery move.  I'm just trying to get an idea if this is a real problem or thats just how every thinkpad is.  I called support and they are sending someone to replace the base panel and we'll see if that fixes it.  I'll update this post when it get's replaced.   Edit* I also asked the lenovo support rep if they had heard of this issue and they said no, never.  I don't see how this is possible as if you do a google search for thinkpad loose battery there are many results.

Hello,

I've looked through the archives a little and haven't found anything about this topic, so I thought I would ask. The battery charges just fine with the computer off, but with the computer on, the little battery icon flashes on and off once the battery gets to a lower level. What that level is I don't really know. Also, and I'm afraid of the response to this, but I have to position the A/C adapter cord to a certain angle to get a good connection. I've tried cleaning the contacts to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

A:Battery will charge with computer off only

Perhaps two problems. The positioning of the cord means something wrong with it or the plug on the laptop. The charging problem might be a problem with the charging circuit in the laptop (MB). Would be nice to blame it all on the laptop plug, but not sure we can do that.

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 Laptop. Just yesterday, I was using it on battery, which was at full charge when I took it off AC Power.

About a month ago, I had the battery replaced, because my old one provided me with a charge lasting only 30 minutes, and for a college student, it is not easy to drag around the power adapter everywhere I go.

It has been running fine until today. From what I can tell, the light that goes on when the battery is charging does not come on when the computer is on, but when it's off it comes on.

Everything I've checked says my laptop battery is "performing normally" and what not.

I highly doubt It's the outlet that I am using, as I've been using it for 3 days with no problem.

The last thing I have to check is my power pack, but I don't just have another one lying around.

Any help is appreciated.

Hey guys,

I need your help, i bought a genuine battery for my laptop Toshiba Satellite A500, but it doesn't say much information on the manual so I want to know how long I need to charge up the battery for the first time?

Do I need to put the battery on my laptop and switch on the adapter to charge it up without switch the laptop on?

When I am using the laptop, do you know what is the per cent when the battery get low that I need to charge it up?

Is it ok to charge the battery when the battery goes to near 10% or more when I'm using the laptop?

And do I have to charge the battery 4 times in one day?

I need to be careful as I don't want to damage the laptop battery that wont last to a year if i am not being careful.

Thanks in advance

A:Charge a battery for the first time

All of my laptops have a icon in the navigation area that shows battery status including charging.

I would just install the new battery, connect the power supply and run the laptop using power for a day or leave plugged in and on over night.

Funny thing, first it won't see my primary battery (which is probably normal, the dumb thing only held 5 minutes anyway, it most likely died), second it will not charge my select bay battery (which holds 3.5 hours of charge) if the laptop is off, it only charges it when it's on. If I have it plugged in when it's off to try and charge it the Power LED is green and blinking and the Select Bay Battery LED is amber and blinking and no charging happens. I tried removing the primary battery to see if it was causing this and it still did the same thing...anyone know what causes this? It's a Tecra 8100, PIII 750, 512mb ram, Windows 2000 SP4. I checked the manual, it's says nothing about the power light flashing green and nothing about the battery light flashing amber. Thanks for anything guys.

Hi All My Elitebook 850 battery recently stopped holding charge.  I took the battery out, and the AC Charger still provided power so was able to use without battery.  I then purchased a new battery.  Now, the AC charger won't show charging on the new battery, but when I take the battery out, I can use the laptop without the battery. When the new battery is installed, it doesn't say anything like "plugged in, not charging," it just says nothing at all.  But obviously the charger works as it powers without the battery in. Have tried uninstalling the drivers in Windows through Device Manager > Batteries > Uninstall Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Battery Method + Uninstall AC Adaptor, with no result.  Turned the computer off, took the battery out, then powered up without battery, uninstalled the drivers, powered back off, reinstalled the battery, powered back up off residual charge in the new battery, with drivers reinstalled, still no luck. Anyone have any thoughts?  Please and thank you. Mike

I have a Inspiron 17R SE-7720.  The battery is no longer charging, even when it is plugged in with the AC adapter that came with the laptop.  The blue light on the plug is on when the adapter is plugged in.  Unfortunately the battery is now completely dead, so I am no longer able to turn the laptop on.  Before the battery died, I checked the BIOS and noted that it was not registering the AC adapter.  Not sure where to go next with this issue.  Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

As the title said, my dads ASUS A52F refuses to charge. It dosen't charge anything. I bought a battery some months ago on eBay, didn't work. I bought another one from eBay(not the same seller) and the same result happened, it didn't want to charge. Note that it dosen't charge the original battery either. Is this a problem with the computer or the batteries?

A:Battery not wanting to charge

Hello Laith mate sounds very much like the charging circuitry has gone south. First up I would check the terminals for signs of wear or arcing or straight forward damage. If there are no visible signs extrenally you may have to go looking inside the machine to see if there are any signs of scorching on the PCB's or dry joints.

You may need a multimeter to test the rails in that circuit too.

I bought a Thinlpad R51 - 1836 BBU used and with no battery. I bought a new battery, installed it and the battery drained completely. I sent it back and got a new one and also bought a new power chord. The battery and new power chord worked fine for two months. Last week the battery drained completely again (while plugged into AC chord).

Again I bought a new battery (extended life this time) and bought a docking station. I am now faced with the new battery drains everytime I use it. The power chord does not charge it. The docking station does not charge it either. I would like some questons answered:

Is it normal for the pc to have to be ON for the battery to be charged?

Does anyone know if there is any indication that the power chord is plugged in while the battery is installed? When on AC only, it shows plug - When battery installed (on battery only or with AC chord) computer shows on battery power.

Do the external battery charger units really work? this may be my only way of recharging my battery if not through the pc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Gary

I have a Vaio VGN-NR120E, it's about 3 years old and it's been a while since the new battery started to die (it lasts about 15 minutes when working on just battery). I got a new battery just yesterday, and it was working OK, but when I went to plug the computer to the AC for charging, it reads "plugged in, not charging". I've been looking around the web and see a lot of people have the same problem, but their solutions haven't worked for me. I've tried uninstalling/installing the ACPI compliant control battery thing, shuting down my laptop and taking battery out/in in many different combos, but nothing's working.

When I put the old battery in (which still charges, but as I said only lasts about 15 minutes), it charges normally.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium.

So I have an HP computer for about 2 years now. I took it on a vacation and it got down to low battery so i turned it off. Now when i plug it in it doesn't charge. Not only that, but the laptop itself turns off even when plugged in. I bought a new battery and that did not fix the problem. It does hold a small charge if i leave it plugged in while turned off a while. It did charge up a little to about 75% then it started going down again. Thank you ahead of time.

I have two Lenovo Y40-70 computers that I purchased within a couple weeks of each other.  They came with Windows 8.1 but I upgraded to Windows 10. A few months ago, I noticed that my computer battery meter was reading 100% for an hour.  I continued to work unplugged until the battery died while still reading 100%.  I recharged and the battery again read 100% for more than a couple hours, then died.  So the battery lifetime is as good as always, but the reading is not right.  When I reboot, it still reads 100%. Strangely, the second system, whcih I had not used for a while, was OK, but a few days later, it started doing the same thing (though it was reading 87%, the charge when the computer last worked right.  I suscpect that this happened after a critical update, which the second system went through later. Recently, I downloaded from the Lenovo website the newer power management software on both computers, and it did not help. Then I noticed the Battery recall so downloaded the "Lenovo Battery Utility 2015" to see if my system was afffected by the problem.  When I run the utility, I get the mssage "No Battery Detect."  So it would appear that there may be an issue with the software detecting the batter. Since I can't know the state of the battery (it appears to not want to recharge until it's empty, I gues because it thinks it's 100% charged), I cannot count on this computer when it's not plugged in. Now I ... It looks like we can add the Yoga 15 to the list of badly designed Lenovo models with battery issues.  I just got my Yoga 15 on Monday, and by Thursday the battery was continually saying "plugged in not charging."  It's still running on AC power, but the battery is gradually diminishing.  I'm using Windows 10 64 and haven't installed any other power or fan management software. I haven't seen any other mentions of Yoga 15's with this problem, so if anyone has a solution for this model, I'd be grateful.  There is no OneKey software on this machine, so the solutions offered for the Yoga 3 don't apply here. If you're thinking of buying a Yoga 15, caveat emptor.

A:Yoga 15 battery will not charge

And now more fun: when I called tech support, they told me I don't have a warranty, not even the standard warranty that all Lenovo PCs ship with (I bought direct from Lenovo). Like I said, if you're thinking about buying a Yoga 15, there might be better options out there.  Better companies ,too.

So, I've had my computer for approximatly 2 years, and it wtill works really well with almost everything. However, about a month ago, my computer stopped charging. Meaning that to use it, it would have to be plugged in CONSTANTLY. After a while I got tired of this (and I know it's not great on my computer, either.) So, I bought a new battery, which worked for about 2 days, then had the exact same problem. I'm really irritated because my computer says on startup that "my battery isn't holding maximum capacity," and that I should replace it. However, this has obviously not helped, and I'm beginning to think that the battery isn't actually the problem. Has anyone dealt with this in the past, or know what is wrong with my computer/battery?

I have a Acer E5-575G Notebook. I read instructions of charging the battery in User Manual , but I was confused. User Manual says that "Not discharge or charge the battery to its extreme". On the other hand says that "Use AC Power whenever possible, reserving battery for mobile use". These two statements are antithetical. Because If I use AC power whenever possible, in fact I am charging the battery to its extreme.

I recently upgraded from windows8.1 to 10, since then my battery will not charge. I didn't have any problems before the upgrade. The only way i can get it to charge is to turn off, remove the battery and reinstall the battery before turning back on and plugging in. Still never gets 100% charge. So my only option for now is to use plugged in constantly. The laptop is less than a year old.

Hi there @tlw72?,  Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome! This is a great site to get answers and ask questions. I read your post on the HP Support Forums. I understand that your battery will not charge after upgrading to Windows 10 and you have to have your Notebook PC plugged in all the time.  I did some research and found some documents for you based on you not being able to use the battery in your Notebook PC as it will not hold a charge. Some of the document's do say that they are for Windows 8, but will work just the same for Windows 10.   Battery Does Not Power Notebook or Hold a Charge - If your notebook computer battery does not power the notebook or will not hold a charge, troubleshoot the battery to see if it needs to be replaced. Testing and Calibrating the Battery  - To know the condition of your battery, use the steps in this article to test your battery and calibrate it if necessary. Managing Power Options  - This document provides information about working with Windows power plans. This is on a Dell Latitude C600.

The problem is that the battery suddenly just stopped working. It will no longer charge at all no matter how long I leave the computer on with the battery inside.

I know that when a battery is dying it will show it by not holding the charge for a long period of time. The problem here is that one day the laptop was working fine on the battery and then the next day it was completely dead. Which is odd because the battery is about 7 months old.

Any ideas?

I don't wanna spend money to fix the laptop because its just not worth it, this thing is old.
Replacing a battery seems like a better idea because its only 30 or 40 bucks on ebay.

This is a dell battery that I bought from ebay about 7 months ago. The first battery slowly died but it still holds a 10 minute charge. I assumed all batteries crap out in this manner.

Also what is battery reconditioning and can that be done on the laptop itself or is that done with special hardware for charging and discharging batteries.
