Safety Mechanism makes my laptop freeze up

Q: Safety Mechanism makes my laptop freeze up

Hello there I have a HP Envy TouchSmart 15 Notebook and everything is okay with it but I was told it has a safety mechanism in the laptop where if I move it to much or tilt it the wrong way it will freeze up and be roughly 1 fps for a good 2-5 minutes I really hate it when I'm trying the walk movies in bed and I move a bit and it activates it does anyone know how to disable this feature?

hey,
i just bought a new computer, and assembled it.
everything works great, except that whenever i unplug the computer and then plug it back, i cant turn it back on again for a while.
No lights, no response, like its not in the socket at all. only after a few minutes of being unplugged it lets me turn it on again.
It was very anooying when i assembled the system, and had to wait for a while between adding stuff.
It really pissed me off when i had a power failure in my house for a second, and couldn't use my computer for about 20 minutes later.
Is this a safety thing from enermax? if it is, is there a way i can get around it? or atleast minimize the wait time?
my system, if u think that it might be somthing else:
Processor: Intel core 2 duo E6400
Motherboard: Asus P5B
Mem: DDR2 512Mb 533MHz CL2 Kingston
Graphics: Sapphire Radeon X1950PRO 256MB PCIe
PSU: Enermax Noisetaker 420W

thanx ahead for any help.

A:Enermax annoying safety mechanism?

I've got the 475W Noisetaker and a 480W Noisetaker II, never had this problem with either of them. I did static discharge on the case of the comp that had the Noisetaker in it once and it wouldn't power on for a few minutes, but I've never had a problem like you are discribing.

I may be off on those wattages, I can't be arsed to check for sure right now. But I'm not off by more than 15, and its not even relavent to your case.

Hello, and thank you in advance,

Recently my laptop (Dell Precision M20 w/ Windows XP & Service Pack 2) has been sporadically freezing. I'm fairly computer illiterate but I have tracked it a little bit. If it's not online it will function for hours, but sometimes (!) when it tries to grab an internet connection it will freeze and I have to reboot. I called Microsoft, they said to call Dell. I tried Dell's website and the only time I saw something that looked like it was the holy grail I was looking for and clicked on it, I got a page that said "Did that help?"...with nothing else on the page. Please help me.

I'm not sure what info you need from me. I'm sorry.

Betsy

A:Windows makes my laptop freeze

Hi Betsy, welcome to TSF..

to be honest, it sounds like you have a spyware/malware infection. Have you run any anti-virus or anti-spyware scans recently?

The 5 step process may be worth a read too:
http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...sting-log.html

It details the steps to take before posting a HijackThis log file. Even if your scans come back clean, there's still a chance you have an infection and if there are any bugs on your machine, then one of our analysts will be able to talk you through removing them.

In the meantime, have you installed any new software/hardware just prior to the problems starting?

Also, could you please post your machines specs (cpu, ram)?

Recently, the eject button on my dvd drive stopped working. I took off the faceplate and noticed the pin that would push the eject button on the drive was bent, and pushing the button on the drive still caused the drive to eject. So I'm pretty sure it's a problem with the faceplate only.

Does anyone know where I could find a new one? I have a HP dv6000 series (dv6568se)

Thanks!

A:Broken eject mechanism on laptop

Though I didn't do research on the particular model, I would assume you would have to send it in to HP for it to be replaced.

Far too often, I find myself with a download which 'freezes' towards the end ? it just stops at, say, 90% completion. Today, I had one which stopped at 99%. Most annoying. The files I'm downloading are from the usual hosters ? rapidshare, depositfiles ? and I'm using Firefox's built-in downloader.

Can anyone tell me what causes the download to 'freeze' and whether I can do anything about it?

Thanks for any suggestions.

A:What makes a download 'freeze'?

Ok, I have two Accutek DDR400MHz PC3200 512MB modules. On their own, they work fine. But together, they seem to crash Windows randomly. These are my specs:

Motherboard: ECS 845PE-A800 (v1.0)
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHz
RAM: Accutek DDR400MHz PC3200 512MB
GPU: Sparkle GeForce 6600GT 128MB
Sound card: Creative Audigy
HDD: 80GB, 40GB
OS: Windows XP Home Edition SP2

My mobo's not over the limit, it can go up to 2GBs. And both RAM slots work, I've tested them seperately. I've reformatted Windows and I still get the problem. What the heck could it be?

I was having a problem with BF2/2142. It would crash after a while of me playing, with a continuous looping sound. I found out the problem was my X-Fi xtreme music.

I am now using a supremefx sound card that came with my asus motherboard. Battlefield runs fine now, but the new sound card is horrible. I even get a crackling sound.

I want to use my x-fi again, but I don't know what makes it crash my games?

I have downloaded the latest drivers for it, and changed the pci latency timings to 64 from 32, which had no effect.

Here's my specs.

Asus P5N32-E SLi
E6600
XFX 8800GTS 640MB
Crucial Ballistics 2GB ddr2 6400ram
700W Thermaltake PSU.

System temps in game are roughly
30C CPU
35C System
55C GPU
Not really too hot.

When i am watching a video on my computer, 75 percent of the time my computer will freeze up. I have windows xp pro, with pentium 4 2.2ghz and 512 ram. Im not sure what kind or how big my video card is, if it is even that. Its very frusturating when it does this. Would i need more memory or a stronger video card to help correct this problem or any other ideas? Thanks.

A:Video Makes Computer Freeze Up

What program are you using to view the video? Also do you know if your video card is built into the motherboard? Most these days are and buying a video card with 128 MB Ram will take the load off the system Ram and make the video play better.

What is the make and model of your computer and how big is your hard drive and how much free space is there?

If you can tell us about as much of your computer as possible that might help also?

Getting my computer into hibernation or getting it out of it is a random thing. Sometimes it works, often it doesn't and my computer freezes and I have to use the reset button. My computer is new so I don't understand why this should happen. Can anyone give me advice? I use hibernation so I don't have to wait to start up the computer, but maybe I shouldnot? Is standby better? I have a AMD 64 4000+ with 1024 mb RAM.

I just use stand by..i havent switched of my PC in 2 years..no need to but
You will probably find different opinions on this(depends who paying the electrictiy bill!!!!)
Windows usually manages hibernation pretty well as long as you have enough disk space which im presuming you checked and probably have considering your pc is new

Hello, fellow netizens and Windows 7 users!

My family is having a spot of bother with one of their computers. It's a Compaq 505B MT running Windows 7, of course; it has 2GB of RAM, an AMD Athlon 2 X2, and an NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE GPU. You can find full specs for this computer here.

Anyway, if someone plays Minecraft on it, the game will occasionally freeze for about 5-10 seconds at a time starting after the first 5 minutes of gameplay, during which it runs smoothly, until after maybe 20 minutes it will lock up completely, and since I am a rather impatient person, I always give the stupid thing a hard shutdown after waiting only 5 minutes. Then, when I try to boot it up again, Windows just stops at that pointless screen where the glowing dots spin around to form the Windows logo (the good old one. ) The last time this happened my dad turned it on for me just before going to bed, and by morning, it had made absolutely no progress after the dots formed the Windows logo. I thought it would be a good idea to clear its CMOS, which made it work that time. However, it happened again just today, and it said something about that excuse for a graphics driver that nVidia gives us failing on me. I don't have access to it right now, but I will probably be able to post the message in a little while.

Thanks in advance, amigos, any help is well appreciated.

Probably not. If the CD was connected via the sound card it's probably not compatible with your IDE controller.

Hello, hi, yeah, i'm new, kinda, yeah, hello.

Woke up this morning, switched my laptop on, windows booted, I logged in. Normal as. Untill about after a minute or so (and after loading up a few programs) Everything seemed to freeze. My mouse was still moving, and my keyboard was still responding (ie clicking numlock would light up the numlock light. =p) but apart from that, nothing. My mouse could move freely across the screen but clicking on stuff just didn't work. Desktop nor taskbar. No hovering effects, no tooltips appearing. Clicking was useless.

I did a force shut down (Holding power key) and tried again. Failed. Tried it again, but left it for a while. Left it on the log on screen, came back, typed in my password and then it crashed after the "Welcome" came up. All this happened several times. Safe mode boots fine, As does booting into normal vista with the startup programs and services disabled. The latter is virtually safe mode anyway, though.

Avast! virus scan found one worm, which I chose to delete and the problem still consists. My one friend thinks it could be a corrupt Explorer.exe, but surely that wouldn't cause a freeze up while on the 'welcome' screen?

I've tried using Crap Cleaner, Tried virus scanning, and i've no idea whats going on. The suggestions im coming up with just seems to be grabbing at straws here.

A:HP PSC 1200 Makes Windows Explorer Freeze!

I would try a couple of things.

First, if you have the drivers successfully installed, "REMOVE" the printer from the system via Device Mgr, and then reboot. Does it still hang?

Second, If that does not work, physically disconnect the printer and reboot. Does it still hang?

If that doesn't work, uninstall the driver and reinstall it, then try 1,2 above.

Report back with any results.

Hey everyone, this problem started a few months ago. When I insert a cd or dvd there seems to be a 50% chance that my computer locks up. During the lockup the mouse and keyboard do not respond, and the only option is to manually restart. I have replaced the DVD burner, and made sure programs like InCD and Direct cd are not installed. Anyone have any ideas?

Recently my laptop computer had been freezing frequently, to the extent that it became largely unusable. I needed to use it for work, so seeking a quick fix I booted into repair mode and used the inbuilt factory reset (One added by Dell, which doesn't require the system disc). I found that my computer was back running fine, but only when I did not run my McAfee antivirus software. I decided the easiest solution would be to temporarily uninstall all my antivirus/anti-malware software so I could finish my work (My system came with McAfee installed, and even after the reset it still persisted).

Having browsed some forums, I heard MalwareBytes being talked about a lot, so I decided to install and use it, but every time I do it slows down my computer to a near unusable state after a short while. It always freezes on one of the system32 files: system/Nlsdata0013.dll

While I haven't checked, I assume this was the same file that my previous antivirus software had been getting stuck on, as they would always freeze very quickly. Is there anyway I can fix this issue? I would feel much safer browsing the internet if I could install some antivirus software. Also any recommendations of software would be very welcome, as clearly McAfee didn't do the job for me before (although I appreciate that there's no failsafe program).

When I do not run antivirus software, my computer runs quickly and without problems.

I hope you can help, and thanks in advance.

Hi there. Can someone please help.

This must be a common problem with Vista.

I have a brand spanking new 8gb computer that came with Vista Home Premium 64 bit installed. I have had it for around 3 weeks.

Everything has been fine up until last night when the computer suddenly froze.

Nothing whatsoever would respond including trying to access task manager.

Eventually i got a black screen with the message "Logon process has failed to create the security options dialog"

I have to then switch off the computer at the back to restart but again when i try to open my web browser the computer freezes once more.

I am 100% virus free. The computer came with Bullguard which is updated regularly and i installed Ad Aware & Spybot S&D myself.

These programs have worked fine for the last 3 weeks so i can only imagine a recent update has totally goosed my computer.

I can only access the internet in safe mode with networking which i am doing now and this is why i am able to post.

I have searched the microsoft database along with a few other forums and there is a possibility this problem may be down to Windows Defender.

Apart from that i am clueless as to what to do to help. I have sent Microsoft support an email but god knows when i will get a response.

I have uninstalled Spybot and reset IE7 to original settings.

I have also managed to update all the recent Windows updates.

Please can someone help. Anything you need to know just ask

Hi, recently my laptop has been freezing every minute or so for a few seconds, especially when I stream videos. It's very annoying and I feel like its getting worse everyday. Videos will pause for 20-60 seconds but the audio will continue to keep playing. I've ran a full scan on kaspersky but nothing was detected. It mostly happens when I click a link or when I'm streaming a video, and also when I'm scrolling down a page. I ran task manager and nothing seems to be using too much CPU. I still have 403GB of space left.

My specs are
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3317U CPU @ 1.70GHz
RAM: 6.00 GB
System Type: 64bit Operating System

If anyone could help me solve this problem I will greatly appreciate it, thanks.

The reason I want to do this is because it's such a hassle sitting in one class, shutting it down, putting it in the laptop briefcase, going to my next class then booting it up again....this process over and over all day is so inconvenient.

Some power cords for HP and Compaq and mini notebook computers sold from September 2010 through June 2012 may be part of voluntary recall and replacement program launched on August 26, 2014.

The impacted power cords have the potential to overheat, posing a fire, and burn hazard.

To see if your cord may be affected, look for a ?LS-15? marking molded into the connector that plugs into the AC adapter.

If you see a LS-15 marking please go to http://www.hp.com/support/PowerCordReplacement

Please note that there are two parts needed to charge your laptop.

1)      The first part is the power cord that plugs into the wall.

Figure 1

2)      The second part is the adapter.
Figure 2

HP is ONLY recalling the power cord used with HP and Compaq notebooks and mini notebooks and accessories such as docking stations. (See Figure 1)

To qualify your power cord and request and replacement, go here.

Since power cords for laptops are compatible, you can use another power cord with your AC adapter until the replacement one arrives.

A:HP Laptop Power Cord Safety Recall and Replacement

None of the links shown in your post are active. I have three HP notebook cordsets with the LS-15 Marking, and I don't have any other compatable cords at the moment since these are the first IEC 60320 C-5 (Mickey) cordsets we have. All the rest are IEC 60320 C-13 cordsets which seem to be more prevalant in the USA. What is the timeframe for getting the replacement cordsets and the links working? What is specific warning signs of possible trouble with the cordset?

Recently, using FF 2.0.0.16 on my Vista Ultimate 32 bit computer, I notices popup ads from c5.zedo.com, when I visited a web page. The pop ups appeared if I left OR right clicked on a text area. The mouse pointer remained a pointer; had not changed to hand with extended index finger.

I verified that FF's popup blocker is / was on. I removed all exceptions & restarted the PC. Same problem. I viewed the page source, searched for zedo and found it related to java script.

I turned off Java, rebooted & the problem went away.

This did NOT occur using IE 7.

I stopped the popups by using the modified hosts file from mvps.org. Because the .bat procedure used by the mvps author to replace the hosts file failed in the past, I copied the contents of the modified hosts from mvps.org & pasted the contents into my hosts file, rebooted & success occurred. I had re-enabled java in FF.

I hope this information is useful to anyone else who encounters the phenomenon.

Firefox's popup blocker does not block all popups, although it does its best. The best way to block ads and the rest of the popups would be to use the Firefox AdBlock Plus extension.

Also, Java is not the same thing as Javascript. They are completely different, and I'm assuming you disabled JavaScript, not Java. However, you don't want to completely disable JavaScript because almost every modern website uses it in some way or another. AdBlock Plus should block the ads, but you can also use NoScript to block all JavaScript on a per-site basis.

I have tried to trouble shoot settings. Everything appears to be correct per my internet provider. My operating system is Vista; I have been using Windows Mail for several years with no problem. Nothing has changed with my computer re: recent updates or new programs.

What is an "authentication mechanism" and how do I set/respond to the error issue? Any available help would be greatly appreciated! (FYI I'm not a computer techie-type so simple-minded (referring to me of course!!!) direction would be especially appreciated! Thank you!!!

A:Authentication Mechanism MUST be Entered

The problem could be with your mail provider. Wait until tomorrow, if it still does not work properly report back and we will go from there.

I have a HP Deskjet 3745 I've had for a year and it keeps getting locked up on the left side and says mechanism error cradle can't move. I can print a test page but when it gets to the bottom of the page thats when it gets locked up. I try to align it but Its printing sideways like the cradle is out of alignment but its screwed in tight plus the lines are overlapping each other like theres a problem with the ink. The ink has 75% left. I sold it and took it over there one day after work so it sat in my car so I think maybe the heat inside the car may have did something. The lady I sold it to just moved and I think they may have dropped it cause theres a black scuff mark on the corner but she said she didn't. I had to give her money back so now I'm left with a broken printer.

Hello,

I recently downloaded divxinstaller.exe + xvidinstaller.exe, both viruses. I believe I was able to eliminate these two problems with Malwarebytes and starting in Safe Mode, but before I did that I unfortunately downloaded My Security Shield. I did make an attempt to remove it, but I was not thorough enough.

Today, I downloaded+installed Internet Explorer beta 9 and was prompted to restart my computer.

My Laptop appeared to boot up normally, but instead of loading up into Windows Normal Mode, I was left with a Black Screen with a flashing cursor. I waited a while, but there was no activity, I then hit the power button off+on again and tried booting up in Safe Mode and got the same Black Screen with flashing cursor. Trying F8 resulted in the same Screen. I can enter BIOS+Diagnostics, but that is as far as I can go.
Please Help!
I do not want to lose any Data or have to purchase a new Laptop. I own a Dell Inspiron 1720.

Thank You.

A:Windows Vista Laptop will not boot in Normal or Safety Mode. Possibly Security Shield

Hi -

Boot into Recovery using your Vista DVD or the HDD recovery partition and try "system repair". If no-go, boot back into Recovery and run "Windows System Restore" - choose a restore point far enough back before the trouble started.

Once you get the system to boot, copy important personal files off and reinstall Vista.

Hello,    Does anybody know what is the part number/s for the latching mechanism, whole mechanism/slider etc., that holds the lid/screen closed?    I found some other posts where they were talking about the lid/screen hooks. I'm talking about the mechanism that the hooks get retained in.   I've started to put together a T420s that someone else took it apart and when I finished I realized that I was missing the latching mechanism and I've looked online and I couldn't find anything, not even the proper name/definition for that part/s.  Thank you,Emil

Hi Gang,

When I try to search my computer, any part of my computer, the search module seems to stall. That is, it doesn't appear to be doing anything for anywhere between 10-30 seconds. After this time the meter starts working and the word "searching" comes up on the search box.

There seems to be a long delay between the time I give the order to search, and the time the search command is actually executed.

What can I do to eliminate this delay?

I have WinXP Pro SP2

Good morning.

I'm a third year university student and for one of my assignments, I am to write a research report based on the question 'Are Passwords an Effective Security Mechanism'. I have focused the research on biometric and traditional (alphanumeric combination) passwords. Also, I am required to obtain some primary research which can be argued against my secondary research to form some sort of conclusion, and to do this, I have decided that a questionnaire is the perfect solution.

I would appreciate it if some of you would take the opportunity to complete my questionnaire as you will be helping me out a lot. It will take no more than 2 minutes to complete. Also, I would be interested in hearing your thoughts and opinions on biometric and traditional passwords, regarding their security.

The survey can be found here - https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/VMS7XPD

I apologise if this is in the wrong section or breaks a rule. I have checked the rules out and I believe it doesn't break the advertising rule, but it might to you guys.

Thanks in advance.

A:Are Passwords an Effective Security Mechanism

The user is the first and last line of defense. Strong passwords can be effective security measure. Unfortunately, it has been proven time and again that the user is a more substantial factor (weakest link) in security than the architecture of the operating system or installed protection software. Security is all about layers, and not depending on any one technology or approach to detect or save you from the latest threats. The most important layer in that security defense? You! Most threats succeed because they take advantage of human weaknesses (laziness, apathy, ignorance, etc.), and less because of their sophistication.Krebs on SecurityThese were the worst passwords of 2015, and they're only getting worseThis List Of 2014s Worst Passwords, Including 123456, Is EmbarrassingIts 2014 And Our Passwords Arent Getting BetterThe 25 Worst Passwords of 2013

Hi Team,
May I know how does windows time works?
During system boot up, after BIOS transfers the ownership to windows, does windows get the time value from CMOS RTC?
After that, how does windows time tick-tock? using PCH's HPET(High Precision Event Timer) or CPU's TSC(Time Stamp Counter)?
Does any interrupt or events will cause windows time pause? such as SMI?
Any documents from windows to explain this mechanism.
If I have to debug an issue relative with windows time, any way to monitor this time during system boot up?
it is a data structure or run time register reading or something else?
Thanks,

Oh man, twice now, after about 10 minutes of running, my laptop, makes this crackling noise, like click click click then small curls of smoke start comming out of it. I quickly turn it off and it happens again when i turn it on.

The noise and smoke is on the left hand side. It's a Gateway laptop that i've had for ~3 years. I've never had problems with it. Ever. No viruses no nothing. This came out of nowhere.

Please dont tell me it's garbage now. What do I do. I'm afraid to leave it alone while its running cause I dont want to burn the house down but I hope this is somehow fixable.

My laptop has recently started making the little beep noise that would occur when inserting a usb device etc. but i haven't inserted anything into the laptop at all?

I have checked various windows device programs but to no avail, there are no yellow triangles in the device manager, so i'm unsure as to what has caused this?

I have also system restored but it still proceeds to make the noise.

If anybody has any ideas on how to resolve this problem then i would really appreciate it!

I currently own a toshiba Satellite p755-s1520 which works perfectly other than the Laptops LCD display not working, i use it VIA HDMI to 47 in TV. The problem is i cant get my mice to work properly on the laptop.
I have updated the drivers, messed with the resolution, uninstalled the drivers and even tried several different mice and it still the same result. I have also factory wiped my pc and still nothing. The mouse doesnt stutter or dissapear its just very imprecise and slow. Example: in order to get from one side of the screen to the other i have to pick my mouse up off the matt and bring it back to the bottom corner just so that i can finish getting the cursor to the other side, it trails behind and what not.

i have an ibm laptop and during windows start up, it makes that "beep" like it just POSTed but louder and doesn't stop. i picked up the laptop while it was screaming to turn it off, and as i moved it, it changed pitch. this first happined when i was loading quake 2 on it, quake 2 had just finished loading and i was in the process of trying to play it. to get it to stop i just took out the battery. the sound sounded like it came out of the speakers, but changed when you push on a certin paRT of the laptop. how do i get to stop, is my laptop toast? i can get more info if u need it.

A:ibm laptop makes a very loud constant beep

What is the model and the model number called a type number on the bottom... the model will be something like 600X or T-23. But the type number will be a seven digit one like 2373-8SU.
The problem could be as simple as a stuck key, or as complex as a failed CPU Fan, failed memory, failed hard drive, or a motherboard gone bad.
If it is a repeated beep beep beep etc... with a pause then repeated beeps, count the beeps and tell us. That will usualy be a memory error or a cpu fan or a hard drive... depending on the model and the age.

My laptop: Asus K52JR with Windows 7 Ultimate, Intel Core i3 CPU M350 2.27 Ghz, 3 Gb of RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470.

The problem is that the laptop freezes and makes a sound (from speakers), like a broken Audio CD, then bsod and restart.

First time I had this problem - two weeks ago - I sent it back to be repaired. They changed my HDD. Because my Windows wouldn't start and it appeared a message about hardware/software problem. I mention that the first time when it freezed I was watching a movie and downloading something with uTorrent. It crashed and I got bsod. But it and worked fine after. Another time (when my laptop eventually didn't start anymore) I was playing an online browser game and downloading something with uTorrent. I didn't got a bsod. I had to force it to shut down.

Now, after they installed a new HDD, it worked for two days. But again it freezed, maked a strange sound and restarted. This time I was playin the same online browser game, I was talking with people through Team Speak 2 and downloading something with uTorrent.

I said all these details because I don't know much about computers, and I wish someone could detect my problem.

Hi guys,

Here is the rundown of my problem. I have a sony laptop VGN-FW560F (windows 7). I have had it since December 2009. Everything on the computer worked great until November of last year. While on an airplane going home, and while it was sitting on my lap (not the tray), it froze up while running Lightroom, Photoshop cs5, and Photomatix. I originally thought that system got hot, but I am not entirely sure... the airplane was frigid that day, and I had only been using it for about 30 minutes. It froze up, and it took FOREVER to shut down. All the programs were lagging while trying to close them. It finally shut down, we landed, I went home. When it came time to turn on the computer, it would boot up, but the second it got to the Welcome screen, it would freeze. The computer would pause for about 5 seconds, then do a rapid clicking noise (very quite (you have to be in a silent room to hear it)) for about 1 second, then freeze again. The clicking noise appears to be coming from under the "H" key, which appears (?) to not be close to the harddrive. The computer would not be able to be turned off because it seemed to go in an infinite loop of the clicking / freezing. I could boot up on safe mode, and it would finish booting and everything, but after about 20 seconds of being in windows, it would click and freeze again. It would allow me to do some stuff, but every 20 seconds or so it would freeze, click, freeze, click, freeze, click... 20 seconds of able to do som... Read more

first things first, get all the data that you want to keep off of that hard drive. You can purchase external USB drives very cheap these days, and it sounds as if the hard drive is going south. After that, hit the HD's mfg site and run some tests on it to see if the HD is indeed failing.

But by all accounts it sounds like the click of death; I'd get that data off (at least what you want to keep) asap.

So i was using my Compaq Evo N620c laptop( Windows XP) and i put it on stand by. When i came back, i started the laptop up and it started making a really loud high pitched noise almost like a whistle. I restarted the laptop and it started making the same noise. I went on safe mode and the noise stopped and everything louded perfectly. Than when i went back on my regular account and it started making the noise again. The noise only starts at the blue loading screen for XP. I had this laptop for 2 years and this is the first time this ever happened.

Will the noise stop if I open up my laptop and use a duster ( high pressure air) and i take out all the dust out of my fan and hard drive?

Thank You

A:Laptop makes a really loud grinding noise

No way to tell for sure what the noise is coming from with the info provided. Could be a fan, could be a hard drive. I suggest you go ahead and try blowing the dust out with canned air through the cooling vents. Use short bursts instead of a continuous blast. First blow air into the exhaust port first, then into the intake port. Repeat until no more dust appears.

Try one thing first... mute the sound. Audio hardware can do some strange stuff.

I have a situation that is very annoying on my laptop. At random times, a icon at the bottom right (near time) would pop up "FFA". Hi all, I'm hoping you guys might be able to help me solve this problem. I've got a HP Pavilion dv7-3162nr, it's about a year and a half old. However, recently, I've been running into this peculiar problem where it stops working after about 15-80 minutes of usage. Not "stops working" as in it all freezes and I can't do anything, but stops working as in the mouse and the keyboard stop working and I can't do anything. The rest of the system continues to run normally, and doesn't even throw up an error . Since I can't do anything, I generally turn off the machine. The computer then can't be turned on for several minutes afterwards or until after I've power-cycled it. I've updated all the drivers, reinstalled Windows 7 several times, tried running it on a Linux distro, but nothing seems to stop this from happening. I'm pretty sure this is a hardware issue, since doing fresh OS installs and reinstalling drivers didn't seem to help. Do you guys have any idea as to what may be causing this? Feel free to ask for more info if you need it.

Hello all, hope you all are well.

I am having an issue with a laptop of mine. Dell Inspiron E1705 laptop. The LCD outter cover looks a little cracked but not badly. The noise seems to be coming from the middle of the LCD towards the bottom. I took the laptop apart hoping it could have been a connector or a fan. I even took the RAM out and switched modules. The problem still persists to this moment.

I was hoping someone could give me good insight on what it could be?

I was thinking it may be the LCD monitor itself, but then I read online and some people say AC adapter or motherboard. Well the noise sounds like it's coming from the monitor only, so I don't really know.

Any suggestions?

Thank you,

Hi everyone. First off, I would like to thank everyone on this forum for providing useful help to users. I am extremely grateful for this.

My laptop Acer V3-571 has constantly been having BSOD's for the past few months. It originally came with windows 8 and had BSOD's constantly so I decided to downgrade to Windows 7 and see whether that would fix the problem. It didn't. I have even more BSOD's now and the laptop is now unusable. I tried everything from updating drivers, deleting programs, reformatting hard drive and still no prevail.

Is there anything I can do?

attached are the dump files.

thanks everyone!

A:Help!!! Constant bsod makes laptop unusable

Run a Disk Check to scan for errors

   Note

Afterwards go into an Elevated Command Prompt (Run as administrator) and type in sfc /scannow
If it finds errors reboot and run the scan two more times

Run SeaTools to see if your HDD or SSD is failing

Post back the results.

Ive networked a laptop wirelessly to my router using a Belkin access point, and it works fine.

The problem is that the laptop goes all slow whenever its networked. As soon as i deactivate the wireless on the laptop, it runs fast again. Im using a new access point but i never got this problem with the old one (which was also Belkin)

So my question is, why does the laptop run all slow whenever its networked? Its not just the internet thats slow - clicking something and other common tasks take ages.

All help appreciated

should not be the case, but we need better description of the network.

A:Laptop makes loud clicking noise when trying to boot

Hi Janbiv2
Thanks for writing to us.
Please run diagnostics from f12 menu and observe for any clicking noise during test.
The noise could be either from fan or from the HD.
You can remove the HD and try on another machine if possible or try another HD on this machine.
Also run the machine without the HD and observe if the noise stops.
Do keep us posted about the test results.

Do provide us your system tag#, email address and name via private message,by clicking on my name in blue and then select send a private message

I have a 15 month-old HP Pavilion I bought for my mother but she isn't interested. It's been rarely used, the last time was when I upgraded to WIN-10 in June 2016.  Upon start, I am successful in logging in using the keyboard. But after that, the keyboard only makes a tapping sound.  I must open the Touch Keypad screen to type in anything. What's up? -db2262

I thought that the issue may be that I had outdated drivers. When I got genuine Windows 7, I performed all the system updates but I am still having issues. In what is probably a strongly related issue, my laptop lid is a bit loose and constantly makes the USB connect/disconnect noise when it moves even slightly. Actually, when opening the lid it makes no noise. But once I push it away from me past a certain point (even very slightly), it makes that USB noise, with no exceptions.

Hey guys, well I've been having an annoying problem with my laptop fan. It produces a high pitched noise that is just loud enough to annoy me :/ My room is quiet, so you can very easily hear it. I'm not sure how long it's been going on for, but I've noticed it the last few months. To me it sounds like the fan is starting to wear out, from a fan bearing maybe. I've tried cleaning it by disassembling the laptop, but the noise hasn't changed. Do I need to replace the fan?

Thanks in advance

A:Laptop fan makes high pitch noise, fan wearing out?

Hmm gin mate what are the temps doing?? sounds like the thing is working overtime to me.

Try this and post back Speccy - Download < download from piriform.

One thing you can try if the temps are up is to shine a very bright light into the fan aperture and then look into the outlet vent if you cannot see much light then the cooling rad is blocked.
The pic is of a Toshiba but the principle is the same.

This has occurred ever since I reformatted the laptop. I've narrowed it down to my Vid controller/VGA compatible and currently it is uninstalled.

My graphics run like they should (ie: i can play games and have multiple screens etc) when the driver is installed and it's the right one for my hardware. I own an Acer Extensa 5620 on Windows XP Pro SP3. I've installed the drivers from the acer support for the right version etc etc. I deleted the hidden recovery partition and don't possess the recovery disks.

There are no other problem devices and I installed the Driver after chipset

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I have a Compaq laptop that had a bad hard drive (a 40gb Seagate Momentus 4200.2). I replaced the HD and reinstalled the OS and laptop is working fine. But I'm wondering what's wrong with the old HD and if it can be fixed. If I connect it to my desktop, using my "S-ATA&IDE-to-USB" adapter, the HD spins-up but just makes continuous clicking noise and is not recognized as a new device by the desktop's XP operating system. Is the hardware bad or is there a boot file that is corrupt? I'm looking for suggestions - thanks - Bill in Maryland

Hello,

Computer:
Dell Vostro 1500
Windows XP SP3
Anti-virus: Norton 360
I have a situation that is very annoying on my laptop. At random times, a icon at the bottom right (near time) would pop up "FFA". When it pops that up, it makes an audio through the speaker like a car revving an engine or monkey noises. I tried doing a search but couldn't find the solution. I have the Norton 360 which didn't even find the virus / malware / etc.. Nor is it preventing it from going off.

I tried doing a search for a solution on google and stumbled upon this website. I did a combofix search that I read on this website. Here is my log:

I got Counter Strike Global Offensive on my laptop, and as soon as it started running this very high pitched deafening sound started coming from my mic. I cannot seem to fix it.

A:I got CSGO on my laptop and now it makes a loud feedback noise

Does the noise continue when you use the mic with anything else that has recording/mic capabilities?

If it does, then there something wrong with the microphone. If it doesn't the it is probably with the game.

Well, the problem could be that upon launching "CSGO" your mic is automatically adjusted to be the at its highest sensitivity.

To fix this, please do the following.

1. Load "Steam", then go into "SteamApps".
2. Next click "Common", then select "CounterStrike:GO"
3. Click on "CSGO", then "CFG" and finally "config".
4. Open the "config" with Notepad or Notepad++
5. Now, in Notepad, click on "Edit" and then "Find Next".
6. Type the following in the "Find Next" window... voice_mixer_volume "1.0"
7. Change it to the ammount you want.
1.0 = 100%
0.50 = 50%
0.25 = 25%

8. Now save the "config" file.

You sould no longer have the problem.

I sometimes used an old Dell Laptop just for my own enjoyment and it would run Windows 7. Then all of a sudden the Laptop stopped working. Whenever I tried to boot it up the screen/monitor wouldn't turn on and it would make a beeping sound. I decided to throw the laptop out because it wasn't useful anymore, but I would really want to know what the problem actually was. Also, since I've had the computer for quite sometime I suppose it was about time I had thrown it out..

Thanks,

Ethan

A:Laptop not working. Monitor broken? Makes weird noises..

The beeps might have meaning.  What is the model of the Dell laptop?  And what is the pattern of the beeping sound?

Hello guys, I've had the freezing problem for months and so far no solution. My laptop runs fine when I play games, or browse, as long as i don't watch videos or listen to music, it doesn't mind if online or from my drive. Tried different software but no luck. I would think it's hardware, but i don't have this problem on linux.I ran windows 8 for a few days, didn't see the freezing there, but I don't like the OS.
I think the problem is with the audio drivers or something, I tried old and new ones, but no result.
I am running win7 ultimate 32bit (64 doesn't help either). My laptop is Acer Extensa 5635zg. I attach the Windows_NT6_BSOD_jcgriff2 report+ the everest report inside the zip, where you can find the hardware information about my laptop.
Laptop has been running fine for 2 years, I've had it for 3.
Thank you in advance!

p.s. the method described in this thred doesn't work for me

I have a Gateway NV59 laptop. My wife and I have separate laptops and we both connect to the home Vodafone HG553 modem, via wireless. I moved in recently, so my laptop is the new device.

Whenever I try to connect to the WIFI modem, the modem's red light starts blinking and I somehow make my wife's laptop disconnect as well. She has no problem connecting. It is only when I try to connect with my laptop.

Sometimes the red blinking light stops and I get connection (after 5-10 minutes). But, connection will go back and forth, dropping connection, connecting, connecting with no internet access.
I updated my adapter drivers.
Any help will be appreciated,

Hello,

My CD drive is making loud noises. This doesn't occur all the time. For example,I'm watching a DVD - Criminal Minds Season 4 and it allowed me to watch the episodes fine but when I tried to watch a deleted scene, it made this loud grinding noise and it wouldn't stop even when I clicked stopped in Windows Media Player. It only stopped when I removed the DVD.

This also occurred when I was watching another DVD, I was trying to skip through it and it made that loud grinding noise again but it still played after it got to where I wanted it to be. But with the Criminal Minds DVD, it won't work even when I leave the DVD grinding to see if it'll go to the deleted scene.

I don't understand what's going on. I barely used it before but now it's acting up. I never dropped my laptop or hit it.

I'm attaching the sound it makes. I hope there's a way I can fix this on my own.

Btw, the deleted scene worked on my sister's Toshiba laptop. It made no loud noises. It was smooth.

Edit: Here is the sound it makes. https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resi...int=file%2cm4a It's the one named DVD drive

A:Asus Laptop CD Drive Makes Loud Grinding Noise

A DVD drive will make noise. Whirring and a little bit of clunking and ticking are normal, but a solid grinding sound does not sound good. You may have to replace that DVD drive.
