When I started it back up, it says "Hard Disk Error" and when I run a diagnostic it tells me "No hard drive found". This laptop has been very well taken care off. Never dropped. Never had a problem. Kept out if reach for childeren. What is going on?This is the 2015 Dre with 1tb memory and 8g ram.

I'm running windows 7 on a dell laptop, and recently, I'm been getting automatic restarts 10 times a day. I've run McAfee, MalawareBytes and uptaded all drivers. Nothing works. When using the PC checkup application, which failed to complete the hardware scan, I found several Application Error messages.

Here's what they show:

Faulting Application name: SearchIndexer.exe, version: 7.0.7600.16385, time stamp: 0x4a5bd212
Faulting module name: TQUERY.DLL, version: 7.0.7600.16385, time stamp: 0x4a5be07e
Exception code: 0xc0000006
Fault offset: 0x0000000000006648
Faulting process id: 0xcb0
Faulting application start time: 0x01cbb08f066821a1
Faulting application path: C\\Windows\system32\SearchIndexer.exe
Faulting module path: C\\Windows\system32\TQUERY.DLL
Report Id: 59706556-1c82-11e0-b06d-b8ac6f70b16a

The process id changes, as does the start times, but this is the error that comes up with ridiculous freqency. I really hope that someone can help me.

Hi!
I have a problem with my computer. I've red an other topic (but I can't find it anymore) and it seems to mee that I have a virus.
I can not acces any files or programs. After starting I get Windows recovery which I've never seen before (could be me but I'm not sure)
It detects this mistakes and can not fix them if I upgrade it should be able to fix my problems.
- 39% of HDD space is unrreadable
- boot sector of hard drive disk is damaged
- hard drive doesn't respond to system commands
- read time of hard drive clusters less than 500 ms
- bad sectors on hard drive or damaged file on allocation table
Then I got these warnings too:
Down besides the time pops up a window saying: Hard drive critical error. Run diagnostic utility. Check hard disk drive for errors. Windows can't find hard disk space. Hard drive error.
In the screen I get:
Hard drive failure. The system has detected a problem with one or more installed IDE/SATA hard disks. It is recommended that you restart the system.

After restarting same problems.

Besides my computer is in Dutch and all these errors are in English.
Is there some one that can help me or tell me what to do please?
Thanks!

Hello it does sound like this malware, if it's not the real HDD death. Please follow our Removal Guide here Remove Hard Drive Diagnostic .After reading how the malware is misleading you ...You will move to the Automated Removal InstructionsAfter you completed that, post your scan log here, let me know how things are.The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.

I don't really know much about computers, so I'm going to give as many details as I can as to what happened to mine in the hopes that there is some brave soul out there who is not an ignoramus like me. So sorry if it gets wordy.

I was on my laptop when all of a sudden I got kicked off the internet and out of my Word document. Then a couple dozen popups came up, all saying the same thing:

System message - Write Fault Error | A Write command during the test has failed to complete. This may be due to a media or read/write error. The system generates an exception error when using a reference to an invalid system memory address.

I closed out of all those popups, but as soon as I did all of the icons on my desktop disappeared. I'm pretty sure I then turned off my computer out of panic. When I restarted it, my background was black and the Recycle Bin was the only icon I had on my desktop, and my Start Menu was also cleaned out. File Recovery popped up, and told me my computer had 4 critical issues and 3 dangerous ones. Here are the details:

Hard drive boot sector reading error - Critical
Error 0x00000024 NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM - Dangerous

A:Critical Error - Hard Drive Controller Failure

Jessica,

First step - see if you can recover your data via 'Safe Mode', see below.
Second step - repeat this post in the forum section 'Am I infected, what do I do ?', but include details of your operating system, the make and model of your computer and where you were browsing at the time this trouble started.

To recover your data : Start your computer in 'Safe Mode'. You do this by starting up your computer, and when the BIOS screen appears, start tapping the F8 key. This should bring up a black and white screen which at the top has three choices - 'Safe Mode'; 'Safe Mode with networking'; and 'Safe Mode with Command Line', and in the middle says start Windows normally. Choose 'Safe Mode with networking' - you may need to use the 'Up and Down arrow keys to select it, then press 'Enter'. This should bring up a black screen with your icons on it and it says 'Safe Mode' in each of the four corners. If this doesn't happen - switch off and contact 'Am I infected' using another computer and wait for help.

When you get to the 'Safe Mode' screen, RIGHT click on the start button. This brings up a small menu, second from the top of it you will see 'Explore'. Click on this and Windows Explorer will open, and you can use this to drag and drop your data - My Docs or whatever - into a memory stick, or more than one stick if you have a lot of data ! Do NOT re-load this data into ... Read more

Hi..I just bought a refurbished computer. Its an HP Desktop Computer COMPAQ 6005 PRO Phenom II X3 3.0 GHz 4 GB 250 GB HDD Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit .

In order to install windows for the first time on this refurbished machine, I have to choose "system restore" at boot.
It starts to go through the process of installing windows, then I get this message : "Windows Restore Critical Failure. This can be caused by a missing Windows image".
Anyone know how I can fix this. I cant get into windows, because I first have to install it using the system restore. So the only computer access I have, is when it boots up.

I have tried to contact Newegg...which is where I bought it, but no luck. All repairs and service is through the warranty company...cant get in touch with them either.

Thanks.

Hi,

I got this error "Critical System Error! / System Alert:Trojan [email protected] " a few days ago. I had to select a Restore point in order to get back on the internet and now my computer is running excruciatingly slow. I ran Trend Micro Call, spybot, and a few others to try and get rid of the problem before I found this website. I have included the log as requested. Any assistance would be appreciated!!! Thanks

I got another call from my Dad today. After cleaning his computer completely last month with help from BleepingComputer.com there is another problem so I went to check it out. I can't believe it.

Now on startup a fake system scan runs with many warning of I/O errors and critical hard drive problems. It tries to take you to file-recovery-system.com to buy something. Obviously it is a virus/hijack. I searched on the web for fixes and was able to use RKill.exe to at least stop the process and the warnings. I tried to install MBAM but the install failed twice, I get a permission denied warning. I tried to install after restarting in safe mode, but had the same access denied at the end of the install.

Computer is Windows 7. I am posting from my clean computer since the browser redirects on his computer make it almost impossible.

Hello
I just checked my error log and I have many many errors showing that are either Boot Performance Monitoring or Shutdown Performance Monitoring, and a few Standby PM's. I bought this in Jan/Feb. I know, it's not shutting down or starting up without manually
making it do so. But it does take a long time to start up and it does seem like there is lag time with different things like typing online, using a link to a page that I'm always signed in to sometimes takes awhile or logging off sometimes takes
longer than it should.
BTW: I did receive a message here stating that there were other questions like mine already here but I looked at them and they were completely different issues. However, by the time I was done typing and pasting info there were several new ones that
were similar to mine - sorry about that but they were not there until I finished.
The specs are:
HP dv6 Series Notebook
Intel Dual Core CPU T6600 @ 2.20 ghz
Ram - 4 Gigs
Came with preinstalled 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium OS
I have not seen this particular event before I guess I was looking at a different event log for applications all this time. I stopped using the computer for about 3 months because I didn't have the time to learn Windows 7. I only just recently
turned it back on a few days ago because my PC broke. (It's also an HP and only 1 yr - 2 mths old and it looks like it could be the motherboard) Anyway, on the event log ... Read more

A:Critical Errors in Event Log - Source - Diagnostic Performance

Hi pippin33,
I suggest that you contact HP support for guidance on a full system restore\recovery. Find your specific model version of the DV6 and locate this page:
Start-up and shutdown should happen normally, especially with a new computer. (Less than 45 seconds startup, typically faster)
They pulled the "create your own or order system recovery disk" routine, so you are left with the recovery partition method.
If you have the Windows 7 installation disk, boot from it, and select repair the system.
Quite possibly, there is a BIOS and\or multiple driver updates. Let HP guide you on that before diving in on your own.

You do have Smitfraud so we need to do the following:

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted: "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.

A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report ... Read more

Hi,

I often leave my computer on all the time. Last night, i ran some spyware checkers and found nothing... and went to bed, today i wake up and the monitor is black... great, now what happened. i hit the reset switch....boots up all the way past the user name entry and then bang....

blue screen telling me- Stop: c000021a {fatal system error} The windows logon process system terminated unexpectedly with a status of (0x00000000 0x00000000). The system has shut down.

Ok, thats really nice, anyone know what i can do to save my system? I can boot into safe mode just fine. Loaded up into windows the normal way, and worked but then about 5 mins later, crashed right to that blue screen again...

Hello! I'm new to this forum and I'm having the same problem as gratenana did regarding Critical System error! Warning!!! The system is restored after critical error. Error code is 0x01FFEFAC. System Safety critically lowered now. Install System Error Fixer and Trusted Antivirus now? It then has a yes and no button. I hit no and my desktop (everything except the background) disappears.

A:Critical System Error!

Searching in this forum, i find the solution. Plese read this post:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...al+System+Error!

I recently got a message stating "Critical System Error! System detected virus activities. They may cause critical system failure. Please use a malware software to clean and protect your system from parasite programs. Click here to get all avialable software." This is in a red border box with a question mark symbol/do not enter symbol flashing. Also, a pop up stating "System integrity scan wizard" needed.

I had an outdated verison of McAfee and click on update which led me to WinAntirusPro 2006, which was added to my system. I also have PestTrap, which I think is worthless and wish to uninstall. WinAntivirisPro 2006 may not be very good either.

I want to get rid of the blinking "Critical System Error" indicator. My system is running slower than usual (virtual memory) too. I have Mediacom broadband.

Thanks for information and time given to my situation.

My computer seems to have been infected by some kind of nasty. I have used Trend Micro - Housecall and cleared some infections but still keep getting a Critical System Error notice in my taskbar which reads,

"System detected virus activities. They may cause critical system failure, Please use antimalware software to clean and protect your system from parasite programs. Click this balloon to get available software."

When clicking for more information I am taken to the website for "Virusburst" I know nothing of this site and suspect that this may be the very spyware/adware/malware that I am trying to rid myself of. Any advise appreciated.

Using XP home SP2

Should I run and submit a HijackThis Log?

Hello there and welcome to Bleeping Computer's security forum. My name is David, I will be helping you with your log today. It is a good idea to print off these instructions:This will be useful as there is a possibility some of the instructions will need to be carried out where internet access is not available. You may also like to save these instructions in word/notepad to the desktop where they can be easily found for the same reasons as above. A print out of the instructions would be a good reference to make sure you don't yet lost. Also, it is important that you complete the instructions in the right order, and also that you don't miss any steps out!If you have any queries about the process or just general questions, just ask. Please move HijackThis to another location, preferably c:\Program Files\HijackThis. Anywhere is fine, other than your Desktop or a Temp folder. If HijackThis is in a temporary folder you run the risk of accidentally deleting the backups or it clutters your desktop with all the backups. If you use Windows XP it might be that you just double clicked on the file HijackThis.exe, but that only extracts the file to a temporary folder. Please select the file and Extract it to a folder. How do you make a permanent folder:Click "My Computer", then "C:\" and then on "Program Files".In the menu bar, "File"->"New"->"Folder".That will create a folder named "New Folder", whic... Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

When installing, under Additional Options uncheck Install background guard and Install scan via context menu.
When you run Ewido for the first time, you could get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click Ok.
The program will prompt you to update. Click the Ok button.
The program will now go to the main screen.
You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files. On the left-hand side of the main screen click the Update Button.
Click on Start.
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once finished updating, close Ewido.

If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
Ewido manual updates. Make sure to close Ewido before installing the update.

I have no idea about these things and dont know if you need anything else.
I reinstalled windows XP several times allready after this error occured but it didnt get better..
so i think it might be some hardware error. it is very hard to work on this pc right now, because the mouse isnt working either and it has gotten damn slow..
The pc is allready 5 years old too.. but he doesnt want to buy a new one, but he would like to buy some new hardware components if necessary. The PC got 1,66 ghz and 256 MB ram.

I allready changed the windows settings so it wont reboot automatically but give me a blue screen instead.
on the blue screen it says:

STOP: 0x0000000A (0x0509FA04, 0x0000001C, 0x00000001, 0x806F2891)

I just made a hijackthis log too, but im not sure if it is of any help..

When I move my mouse over it, it says "Critical System Error!", but when I click it, it opens up some site for anti-virus software (www.virusburst.com). I have ran numerous anti virus scans and nothing cam up, so I know I am safe, but this icon wont go away. Every once in a while, a baloon will pop up saying something about I need a malware scan, but when I click it, it opens up the site again. I tried restarting my computer, but it still shows. Is there an executable I need to delete or how do I get rid of it?

Hi and welcome
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

I have successfully removed the Protection Bar hijack. I cannot remove the one above though. Here is what I did so far from others response to the same thing; But it will not go away!

Flushed my System Restore after removing malware: Used Smitfraudfix as follows:

Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted: "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
Restart the computer.

To create a new restore point:
Start go to All Programs
Accessories, System Tools and select System Restore.
In the System Restore wizard, select "Create a restore point" and click the Next button.
Type a description for your new restore point. Something like "After trojan/spyware cleanup".
Click Create and you're done.

Hi, jimbostar.

Welcome to TSG.

Note: In the event you already have Killbox, this is a new version that I need you to download.

Run Killbox.exe. Paste the following location into Killbox. Checkmark the box that says "Delete on Reboot" and checkmark the box "Unregister DLL" (If available) Click the RED X and it will ask you to confirm the file for deletion…say YES and when the next box opens prompting you to reboot now...click YES and it will reboot.

Well yesterday my brother went online to Myspace, and I guess he went into the adult section... I saw him do something and the system rebooted... I didn't know what he was doing. Well... now I have a Critical system error on my task icon tray bar. Everytime I click on it, it sends me to a spyware program to buy. I'm not liking this...

I play WoW and its very important to always be on, and not have to be tabbed out to receive a pop up for porn... Rest assured I will not let my brother on my computer ever again..

Hi,

I got an ASUS K93SV type of notebook. When holding down F9 at boot time my computer should boot into the recovery partition, which allows me to reinstall Win7. (Recovery partition is something like 25 GiB, located on the outermost tracks of my 1TB internal drive, and seems to be hidden.) So, after booting with F9 down, I come in the following setup menu:

***************************
#### Windows Boot Manager ####
Choose an operating system to start, or press TAB to select a tool:
>Windows Setup [EMS Enabled]
To specify an advanced option for this choice, press F8.
>Tools: Windows Memory Diagnostic
***************************

Before installing Win7 for the very first time, it would be smart just to run a memory diagnostic test prior to installing Win7. However, that does not work, at least, not in my case. After toggling to "Tools: Windows Memory Diagnostic", I get the following screen:

***************************
#### Windows Boot Manager ####
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

A:RAM Memory Diagnostic Failure in Recovery Partition

Both Windows Memory Diagnostic Test and Factory Recovery are inferior choices. Most tech enthusiasts will not use either but prefer to use the vastly superior RAM Test with Memtest86+ and to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

These may not be the answers you wanted to hear, but they are the best practices for perfect Win7 performance which is our specialty here.

BTW don't forget to make your Recovery Disks if you are going to rely on Factory Recovery as it can fail from partition when run to reinstall the factory crapware larded into Win7. So you need the backup.

Hello all,
New member here and not very computer literate so bear with me hopefully. I am getting a message of critical disk failure drive d. Apparently my recovery drive is almost full. As far as I know I have never downloaded anything into it. didn't even know if I could. In any case I followed the instructions to allow the viewing of what's in the recovery disk but don't know what if anything there is that should be deleted. In one article it mentioned deleting a file with the name of the computer on it...but I don't see that file at all in recovery. Any help would be appreciated. here is a picture of what was in my recovery area:
My d drive apparently has only 603mb's out of 6.25GB's left.
thanks again,

Hi all. Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

I have one of the Compaq sr1950nx machines. Windows XP media center, AMD athalon 9800 2.4 ghz 1024 RAM that Ive owned for about 6 mo's now. Recently, upon startup, but NOT every time, I've been recieving a "Warning: the system fan has failed. have system serviced or press f2 to continue" So a person a little more knowedgable suggested that this might in fact be the CPU fan failing and if so to replace it or the CPU will go boom. She advised me to remove the side panel and to verify if this was the case. Well the cpu fan that sits on a big heatsink was spinning just fine as were the PSU fan and case fan. I checked the CPU temp in BIOS and it was normal (125-130 f). Of course the machine wasn't being taxed too hard at the time so who knows and on that particular start up the WARNING message did not come through. Any ideas?

Hi,

Your problem may be related to faulty video card. Attach the minidumps here if you want me to confirm. You can find the mindiumps at the folder of \windows\minidumps.

Refer the following case which is confirmed relating to faulty VID

It is very frustrated as most of the problem owners do not feedback the result.
There have 7 similar cases which are still opened. You can send private message to the problem owner to feedback the result. I hope you share your experience with us after your problem is fixed.

I use Windows 10. 2 days ago I got the BSOD error that gave me a number to call. I did, ended the call pretty quickly, called geek squad. I shut down my computer, unplugged it, and when I restarted it I immediately got a bright red(!) screen saying the web site was unsafe, and gave this: chrvb etc. (don't know if it's ok to spell it all out or if it matters). Couldn't get rid of the red screen and looked in my event viewer. Don't know what it means, but in the "last hour" category under 'critical' was this: Event ID 41 Kernel-Power. So then I did a search, found this site, and did everything it said to remove whatever it is. I got nervous when nothing showed up in AdwCleaner, hitman pro, Malwarebytes antimalware and McAfee Livesafe. Came up clean.

So today the same thing happened, different phone# and color screen. I shut down then restarted and the screen is still there. My computer is less than 2 weeks old and I know next to nothing about windows 10. With XP I at least had some knowledge of where to look for things. With 10, I just figured out yesterday how to save a 'favorite'. I still don't know how to open favorites. Ok...irrelevant, I just wanted you to have an idea of my level of knowledge. Please keep that in mind when offering advice.

Thanks, mjg1

its the "Critical System Error!" pop-up thing that says you have a virus and re-directs you to its VirusBurst software to make you download it.

Hi

http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip
Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
