I was unplugging my power cords and I happened to turn off the power to my HP Touchsmart. Later on when I turned it back on, my HP Touchsmart won't switch on. The lights on the big batter adapter thing is on. The light at the back of the computer indicating that power is reaching the computer is on. However, I just can't turn it on at all. The power button does not light up.I've tried the solutions posted on other threads but nothing has worked. I had just been using my computer the previous day. I suspect that me turning off the main power might have done something.Look forward to getting some solutions.More replies

Need to no if I have this right
they have a dsl modem going to a Linksys router to a 24 port switch then to a little 4 port switch. sure, so then Would it be modem to router then router to any port on the big switch or is there an uplink port on the big switch it should go to? then you would hook a cat5e from one of the regular ports on the 24 port switch and run it to the uplink port on the 4 port switch need to no if the whole sequence is right. Hope someone can help, john will told me the cable would go from the big switch to the uplink on the small switch but I am wondering if I have it all right or not and wonderiing about from the router to the 24 port switch does the cable just go in a regular port in the big switch or if there is an uplink port does it go there. Hope you can understand my rambleing here. Thanks (please don't send me to a link) just need to no modem to router to regular port or uplink port on 24 port switch then from regular port on 24 port switch to uplink port on the 4 port switch. Thanks
Router to uplink port on 24 port switch, and then normal port on the 24 port switch to uplink port on the second 4 port switch. An auto-MDX port on a device negates the need to worry about uplink ports for that particular cable connection.
I have Windows 7 Professional on my PC. In the first load I had, the PC should automatically detect if the LAN cable was plugged in, turn off the wireless radio, and change the network icon in the right bottom corner to reflect the cable was now in use.
Unfortunately, I had to reload my PC, and since then I can't get it to do it again.
So, what I'd like to achieve is this: Have Windows automatically detect when the cable is plugged in, turn of the wireless radio, and change the network icon in the right bottom corner to reflect the cable is in use - and, obviously, vice versa.
Can someone tell me what I need to do, please?
There are two methods can help you.
1. Go to <Network and Sharing><Change Adapter Settings> and right click your wired and wireless adapters one at a time to change the properties. Select IPv4, click <Properties>
then click <Advanced>. For each one, clear the "Automatic metric" check box and assign the metric value manually. Setting your wired adapter?s metric value lower than wireless adapter one, such as ?1? for wired adapter and ?2? for wired adapter.
2. Go to <Network and Sharing><Change Adapter Settings>,
hold down 'alt' to bring up the "File" menu, select "Advanced", select
"Advanced Settings" from the dropdown menu, adjust the priority of your wired adapter higher than your wireless adapter in the "Advanced Settings" window under the "Adapters and Bindings" tab.
Hope this helps. Please remember to click ?Mark as Answer? on the post that helps you, and to click ?Unmark as Answer? if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.
Am a new Networking BEE I had built a small network of 20 systems at my office and there I had connected a switch and router.
All the switch ports have been covered by all the systems and one port is given to the router
And also I connected a HUB to the switch ..
It works fine for my internet connections to all the systems but how do i make authentication of passwords and username to my network systems from one server which I use server 2003 at one system
let me know the detailed step by step procedure to build.........
I would feel very happy If at all any Suggestions for me to make my Business grow.....
As early as possible ................
Thanks in Advance
>>I use server 2003 at one system
you need to enable Network Login, but that requires that win2003 have
a domain controller
a DHCP service
and a DNS service.
the Domain Controller is just another name for LDAP and it becomes the control point
for all systems.
get some books on Configuring Win2003 Server
I have a wireless router connected to my modem, and ALL PC's connect to that for internet.
I also have a gigabit switch I use to transfer data in between several of the machines. I do it quite often and I don't want it eating up the wifi bandwidth.
I have done it before, but it has been a long time and I cannot remember how I forced internet traffic over the wifi and local traffic through the switch
Is the only way to do it to specifically tell Windows to use the IP address of the LAN connection? I know it will work that way, forcing local traffic directly to that IP, but I seem to remember there being an easier way to do this.
system gets hang, pc configuration is intel 865bgf motherboard with PIV 3ghz ht processor with 80 gb samsung hdd and 266 mb ddr i reinstalled the operating system (xp pro) changed smps and changed 256 ddr but the problem still continues, when the system gets hang i am not able to use my keyboard or mouse i have to restart the system , please help me and also i have to know weather is this the hardware issue or the software issue, and also i am facing same problem with same configuration with the other customer pc .

One question I need to know
If you go from DSL modem to Router then Router to switch
my question is then
If I wanted to hook another mini linksys switch into the bigger switch would you run the cat5e cable from the first switch to a reg port in the second switch or would you run it to the uplink port and then hook the 1 or 2 computers into the reg ports of the second switch.??
Obviously, run it to the uplink port if available.
Hi everyone, I searched through the forums but couldn't really find what I was looking for.
Currently we have a DHCP server set up to a switch, that has a special line connecting to a switch in our shop which is just across our back lot, giving network access to the few computers over there. They recently put in a new machine that needs network access, but they have already accidentally cut two ethernet cords. I'm looking to provide a wireless solution for the machine, but I don't want to have to spend a few thousand dollars on a large wireless switch.
Can I plug a wireless router into the switch in our shop, and essentially turn it into a wireless bridge, or is there another, simpler way to do this?
If this has already been answered, sorry for missing it!
While you could use a router, or even configure the router to act as an access point, why not just buy a true access point? They start at $27: http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCate...ame=Wireless-AP-Bridges-Repeaters&Order=PRICE
Is it possible to switch off a laptop screen - laptop runs Windows 7 - and prevent it being switched on again, without inputting a password?
I need to keep the laptop running, therefore I can't put it to sleep and logging-off has become a pain.
I've tried the Power Options, but the display comes on again when the mouse is nudged.
I've also tried "Fn + F6" on my Acer laptop, which switches off the screen, but an accidental key press brings it to life again.
Any ingenious little prog around? None I've seen have that crucial password privacy aspect.

Hi, guys. I have connected Huawei switch S5700-24TP-SI-AC with Cisco switch 2960 using one single fiber with LX SFP. The port is up on one side (Blinking on Huawei side) and down on Cisco side...Please help.
What kind of 2960 switch do you have? Have you checked the interface to verify the switch recognizes the optic and all the stats report back as normal? Are you using a Cisco branded optic? Do you see light being shot out from the optic in the 2960?
I use windows 7.

So, I just got Wireless Broadband hooked up in my business. I hooked the LAN to the Router and then hooked up a 16 port gigabit switch. I have three terminals coming out of it (in the bcak of the building) as well as a line running to the front of the building. At the front of the building I have the line going into another 16 port gigabit switch. I have 4 computer terminals coming out of that switch. I AM getting internet at the back of the building .....but nothing at any of the terminals after the second switch (front of the building). Can someone help?

I thought that I had this all figured out, but my dad just asked me a question about my setup, and I can't answer it.
The setup is like this:
[ip-phones + computers]-->[small switch]-->[managed L2 switch]-->[router]-->[modem]
I have several ip-phones and computers grouped into blocks of 8. Each set of 8 is a medley of phones/computers connected to a small switch http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Sate...nksys/Common/VisitorWrapper&lid=3681322279B34
Each of these switches, in turn, will be connected to a managed L2 switch http://www1.ca.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/pwcnt_3448p?c=ca&cs=calca1&l=en&s=biz that will create 2 VLANS: One VLAN will contain all of the phones, and the other will contain all of the computers. In turn, each VLAN will have its own router and DSL modem, thereby separating the network traffic.
I know that I can use this L2 switch to make the VLANS based on the MAC addresses of the devices. However, the smaller switches do not support 802.1q [VLANs]. Will it be a problem that the smaller switches do not support VLANs? Essentially, will this setup work to split up network traffic?
Thanks once again,
I have the same DELL switch for my phones. You PoE will not carry across the linksys switches, so that is the first problem.
Next are the computers attached to the phones? Or does each device get its own drop?
And whats this about 2 routers and modems? Thats a bit over kill!! QoS would do the trick.
I would run all the devices off the Dell and attach the computers to the Phones (most IP Phones have a passthrough port) Configure the Dell with trunk ports with the Computer VLAN passing untagged traffic making it the native VLAN. While having the phones on a Tagged VLAN(If you phones conig allows you to set the VLAN in its config great! If not you can bind the MAC to the VLAN). The you create a QoS policy giving the VoIP traffic priority!
I understand that a hub is more like a party line, where all devices hear and read data before sending it to next port, and a switch is advanced hub. But, what is a router. I know what a wireless router is, but they say a router is more advanced than a switch. Can you buy a non-wireless router?
Also, can you connect 2 switches together? So, Modem-----to Switch----to Switch----Computer
And both switches have other devices connected?
you CAN buy a non-wireless router--but--the two I found on Amazon were only 10/100 (most modern systems use gigabit ethernet 10/100/1000) but wired are generally cheaper than a wireless router(the Cisco below is NOT cheap)--however--it's not necessary to use the wireless part of the wireless router as most have at least 4 ports (wired).
Yes you can connect switches together but they won't allow for multiple computers to connect to the Internet (at least not easily nor in a way that makes sense).
What devices are you trying to connect together?
Amazon.com: TRENDnet 4-Port Broadband Router TW100-S4W1CA (Black): Electronics
Amazon.com: Cisco-Linksys EtherFast Cable/DSL Router with 4-Port 10/100 Switch: Electronics
We are moving to a new office location. The guys who will be setting our network is proposing the following equipment:
1. 3Com 24-port 10/100 mbps switch
2. 24-port Patch panel
3. 6u data cabinet
4. 1u cable management
The new office will be a 2-floor building with around 40 computers. I asked some of my friends who are more expert on network setup and told me typical switch (Linksys, Cisco) will do if we need to save some money.
What do you think? Thanks a lot!
Well, first off, I'd be specifying a gigabit switch for expandability, I can't see investing in a 10/100 switch in 2010! If you don't need a managed switch, or need to save money initially, and unmanaged switch will probably be significantly cheaper.
In point of fact, if you want to go really cheap, you can get away for less than $100!
I just installed 4GB ram on my 32 vista and it only recognized 3GB in the os (vista 32) and all 4GB in the bios. so I decided to use the /3GB Switch, by using that command in bcdedit, it all worked good. The problem is now I have 3069 mb physical memory and ONLY 209 mb Kernal Memory!!! so I used the "bcdedit /deletevalue IncreaseUserVa" and bcedit said it worked successfuly so i restart my pc and it STILL had the same memory! so right now im stuck with only 209 mb Kernal memory! any ideas on how to fix this? I looked all over google and found nothing. Should I keep these settings or try and fix it?how do i fix it?
I am not too familiar with those commands you speak of, but I do have a question: Is the video card built into the motherboard? If so, what amount of system memory is being shared with it? Besides that, I have no more ideas to offer you. Sorry

Can anyone please help to see if I'm doing this right or am I missing something ?. I have a Windows 7 Enterprise machine where at the login screen the "Switch User" button is missing and so I am unable to clear the last user.
Just about all the results I got back on this topic was how to re-enable the "Switch User". This doesn't help because I can't login to make the change.
I am about to add 3 new servers into an existing network, which is currently all on 1gbps ethernet. All of the new servers are SSD-based and to me it makes sense to go with 10gbps coming out of the servers into a switch, and then 1gbps out to the workstations.
The new server location is about 200 feet from the existing networking equipment/old server location, so using Cat 6A/Cat 7 copper would be REALLY nice/economical.
Where I am hitting a jam is any 48 port gigabit + 4 10gbps switch is $$$.
I am trying to find a small 10gbps copper switch, say an 8 port, that is expandable, and compatible with a 48 port 1gbps switch. Does such a thing exist?
Hello, i have a HP TouchSmart computer that i need to reformat badly. I am wondering if reformatting it with any regular vista CD key will lose such features as the touchscreen, wireless mouse & keyboard, built in webcam.
The Original owner of the computer claims it came with its own Vista CD key that he lost.
If the HP restore partition is in good condition (not damaged or malware-ridden), you can perform a re-write of the factory-original hard-disk-image by tapping the F11 as your HP is first powered on, then following the prompts as shown (step-by-step, with screenshots) in the following instructions at the HP support website --- http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...=3752240#N1066
Note that you'd first want to move any data that you wish to save off to removable or external media before you run a return to factory original.
Once the factory-original image is restored, you'll have to visit Windows Update to get the Security Updates since the TouchSmart was shipped. You'll want to update the Security software as well (if you need a free alternative, I think "avast! antivirus" is a good choice).
Once the PC is updated and fully protected against malware, you can then create a recovery disk set onto DVDs following the instructions from this HP support webpage --- http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...name=c00882383
Having made your own Recovery DVD set allows you the freedom of running the recovery onto a new, blank drive - should you need or wish to upgrade to a new hard drive in the future.
You can, of course, also order Recovery DVDs directly from HP for most models. The price is considerably less than purchasing a Windows license retail. Much less.
Best of luck

I am having trouble with the touch screen aspect of my computer. It works to scroll pages, and click icons, but the multi touch to zoom has stopped working. I have already turned off the touch screen and turned back on, and also have reset my comupter back to default. Help please!
My hp touchsmart 300 1025 is shutting down unexpectadly. I have had it for a little over a year (out of warranty) and it just started to shut down after a few minutes of use. Not sure if it is an overheating problem or a power supply issue? Anybody with same problem? Suggestions welcome!
My question: Is the TouchSmart tm2 compatible with WIN 10 and what must be accomplished to achieve a successful install? First, a slignt rant.I was successfuly running WIN 10 on my TouchSmart tm2 when I updated a video driver and afterwards could only get a blank screen. Yes, my bad! I paid HP $99 for incident support and their only suggestion was to do a full system recovery & reinstall WIN 7 Pro. Really? You made me pay for that? Since I didn't have the OS disks (it was OEM) I had to pay HP $25 for the media and $15 FOR SECOND DAY DELIVERY ONLY TO HAVE THE MEDIA ARRIVE ON DAY 3. I can't reach anyone at HP to refund the delivery failure. Now support is stating that my computer isn't compatible with WIN 10. If I was successfully running WIN 10, why is it now un compatable?
I have just sent you a private message. If you are not sure how to check your forum messages, this post has instructions.3 more replies

Good Evening, I have a HP Touchsmart TM2-I can supply the specs if you need them- and it has just started to crash at almost every click/action which I take. THis has only happened within the last couple of days and it has been instant, rather than over time. I did a System Restore but this didn't solve the issue. It may ahve been because I had to stop a disk check last week because my laptop battery died but I'm not sure if that would have such a big effect on the laptops performance.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks a lot
That would have a huge effect not finishing a disk check. If you can boot in, Make sure you have your power adapter attached, Go to Start/Search and type CMD Right click the CMD.exe icon in the Search Results and Run As Administrator. In the Command Prompt type chkdsk /R and press enter. Now type a Y and reboot the computer. The Check Disk Utility will try and fix any problems.3 more replies
I've got a TouchSmart 610-1280qd desktop. It was working fine until 1 week ago when my home had a power outage. Now, it won't even boot up. No power, nothing. Even the power brick light is out. I bought a replacement power brick and when I plug it in, the green led light on the new brick(the old is blue) immediately goes out and there's still no power. The power button effects no response, nor does any button on the keyboard have any effect. There's just no power to the entire computer. I've tried plugging both the old and new power bricks in and initially, the blue and green lights on each respectively go on, until I plug them into the desktop. Then the lights go out and still no power and no response by pressing the power button or any button on the keyboard. I've also tried plugging in the old and new power bricks without the surge protector. The power bricks lights go on, but as soon as I plug them in, still no power. I've tried different outlets around my house and the power bricks lights go on, but as soon as I plug them into the desktop, no power. I've tried plugging he power bricks into the desktop first, then the outlets, and no power at all either in the desktop. There is no response at any stage where i've pressed the keyboards buttons. The desktop just doesn't have any power at all. Anyone have a problem with this? I really hope it isn't what I think it is and the motherboard is out. &nb... Read more

My HP touchsmart 520 pc is not booting up and I am looking for support. When I unplug the adapter from the back of the computer and checks voltage it reads 0 v (zero volts) . I have to plug it out of the main source and back in so it reads 17.30v again. Once plugged into the computer it immediately drops to zero. I need help to know the source of my problem if it is the adapter or the computer.More replies

ok guys i really need some help/guidance here. There is so much infomation here that im sincerely overwhelmed... I will give you as much information as I have and hope SOMEONE can help! I dont know if its 32 bit or not nor do I know if it is imperative to my issue. Here is my problem. My computer works fine 70% of the time. When this happenes, I have to disconnect the computer from the wall and reconnect and start over. This always fixes it so it leads me to believe it is some sort of glitch. I called HP and they told me to run a system quick and extensive check on the hard drive which i have done. Both passed and no errors reported. Another thing that will happen is that the screen will go dark, (typically after idling and when i return and move the mouse or type on keyboard, the screen never lights up again as its supposed to when it is no longer idling. It stays VERY dark and I can barely makeout the screen. I am not sure why this is happening nor do I know what steps to take from here. SNAFU, welcome to the forum. That is quite few dumps! I looked at your four most recent dumps. All have the same error code and are nearly identical.
I recommend that you uninstall Zone Alarm using this uninstall tool: http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...cpes_clean.exe. ZA is a documented and well known cause of BSOD's on some Win 7 systems. Make sure Windows Firewall is turned on.
Error code 7F, UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP.
Usual causes: Memory corruption, Hardware (memory in particular), Installing a faulty or mismatched hardware (especially memory) or a failure after installing it, 3rd party firewall, Device drivers, SCSI/network/BIOS updates needed, Improperly seated cards, Incompatible storage devices, Overclocking, Virus scanner, Backup tool, Bad motherboard, Missing Service Pack

moved house recently, hooked the computer back up in the new office and the wireless keyboard worked for about 2 minutes. I changed the batteries but to no avail. Went and bought brand new batteries and again no go but the wireless mouse is still working fine. I have tried the blue connect button on the back of the keyboard but still nothing. Any ideas or suggestions

My mother bought one of these and the keyboard broke. So I'm using the touch pad.
Problem is the more peculiar buttons like Prnt Screen and Delete went missing.
They went missing for some unknown reason as I was typing.
Does anyone have any experience with this trainwreck of a computer?
Hi, I just recently got an Envy All-in-One Touchsmart; it is a super machine and so far, so good. The 10-point touch is really cool, but there are many instances when I would like to be able to use a pen in order to be more precise in my pointing or to "mark up" a document. I know Microsoft Office has the "inking" feature because I use it on my Laptop with a "pen" while I am traveling and have found it invaluable -- and, by the way this laptop is both touch and pen enabled. I tried to enable "pen" by going to the Control Panel feature that is says says Pen and Touch, but when you do so, it is only for Touch. How can I make it so that it both touch and pen enabled? If that is all possible, what type of "pen" do I need? Thank you very much
Hi AIResnick, A stylus used on a capacitive touch screen basically just takes the place of your finger, so enabling touch on the computer will enable pen input as well. But it can't just be any pen or stylus, the material at the tip has to be something that will register as touch on the screen, and not scratch it. I read your other post and I understand you're looking for a finer-tipped stylus, rather than the ubiquitous blunt-ended, eraser-type stylus pens. That limits your options quite a bit, because I believe the larger surface area is part of what makes those pens work on capacitive screens. (Other types of touch screens can use other styles of stylus, including pointy-tipped ones in some cases.) I've heard good things about the Jot Pro from Adonit. I haven't tried it, so I can't speak from experience. The design seems clever--it looks like they attached a clear, flat disc to the tip of a metal pen, so you can see precisely where you're writing with the point of the pen, but the clear disc provides enough surface area for the touch to register, and prevents damage to your screen from the sharp pen point. I hope that helps.4 more replies

In my quest to clean out a bunch of unused programs, I found that I have HP TouchSmart Recipe Box.
After researching about this, I decided it just might be something my wife could use; however, everything I have read about it says it is for HP TouchSmart computers.
My desk-top is HP but I don't think it is a TouchSmart.
My question is, must we have a TouchSmart computer to utilize the HP TouchSmart Recipe Box ?
Try these Google searches:
HP Magic Canvas
HP TouchSmart Recipe Box
What exact model of HP do you have? I find it difficult to believe it isn't a touchsmart if it came with the software. It looks like the apps can be used with a keyboard in many cases, though. See review video in your other thread.

I have a currently crippled HP touchsmart 300-1003. I replaced a dead hard drive with a new 1TB HDD. I have available to me 2 sets of touchsmart recovery disks, and Windows 7 Bootable USB drive (made with win7 tool). The official recovery CDs do absolutely nothing but tell me MBR IS MISSING PRESS CTRL ALT DEL TO RESTART. The bios lists my new HDD (can tell because size is now 1000GB). I cannot choose USB drive as first boot in bios or boot order (this pc has two different menus for the same function, idky). Is there a bootdisk I can use to fixmbr? Please be so kind to provide a guide to getting a touch computer running from the begininng. All the advice online seems to be for computers that will go to a recovery screen already. If I could do that I wouldn't need the disks, lol. I would like to install the touchsmart software but will settle for any windows at this point. Thanks in advance to anyone that is able to walk me through the process.1 Hour Later: To use MSWIN7 USB Tool, I had to ENABLE BOOT DIAGNOSTIC from BIOS, power on, let the black screen read Configured 01 usb drive, ctrlaltdel, f10 to bios again, disable boot diagnostic screen, save and continue f5, then hit ESC for tiny boot menu at the HP LOGO, pick USB 2.0 as first boot. The tool started windows as Repair (which I followed MSguide for bootsec and /fixmbr, no clue if that fixed mbr tho) and Install Windows 7. I picked install. More updates to come.
hi i would download a hdd utility from the maker of the harddrive ,burn it to cd ,usually instruction on ther sitr on how to do this ,to setup harddrive for first time use,it may just need to be formatted to create that mbr that seems to be missing .

Hello, Our TouchSmart PC will no longer turn on. It was working yesterday but today will not turn on. The LED on the back of the computer where the power supply meets the PC is off. When you press the power button the LED light flickers green one time but remains off. The computer does not power up at all. I have tested the power supply with a laptop and it is working. I have also tried another identical powersupply on the PC but the same thing occurs. Thanks

I am new to the forum but a long time computer tech. I have been to the forum on various occasions for help on fixing different issues. I have to say this is a great community that helps alot of people including myself. I've ran into an issue that I believe is needing some of you guys expertise.
What I have is a touchsmart laptop from HP that the keyboard and the touchpad mouse quit working. I have searched all over the internet looking for answers and came across a few telling me to pull the battery and AC adapter to reset the computer. I've had no luck on this being a solution. I have read that booting the computer with the touchscreen facing out is what causes this issue.
So I've tried pulling the power and the battery then holding the power button in to drain any residual energy left on the CPU. And upon booting the computer keyboard will respond but only for the menu that states for starting Windows normally or in Safe mode. After letting the computer boot completely the keyboard and touchpad quits working altogether. This is booting it up in safe mode or in normal mode. The laptop is running Windows 7 Home Premium and I believe that this is my only issue. Any help or ideas on what else to troubleshoot will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Machine is overheating. Dismantled and lots of dust etc cleaned out but small fan is not working and need a replacement. Bar code number of existing fan is 1323 00230H2 oA F000 099L 06LH
Hi there @Superuserhp, Welcome back to the HP Support Forums! I understand that you are looking for a replacement fan for your computer. I am happy to help with this. I would recommend that you check out the HP Parts Store. Be sure that your country is selected and then put in the product information. If the part is not currently in stock, there will likely be authorized sellers listed for the part as well. Please let me know whether that works for you, and if it does resolve your issue, please mark this post as a solution. Kudos would also be appreciated.1 more replies

My HP Touchsmart has never worked properly, Tons of problem, crashing error message etc etc. Computer was sent to HP for repair but it came back whit the same problem. I have spent hours with HP tech support running scan and making recovery with no succes. Recently I have replaced the hard drive on HP tech support recommendation. it worked for awhile but now it dosen't even boot! I don't want to call HP anymore and I wander if somebody can help me or if I should just give up.
Call HP and ask to talk to a manager, then explain what's happened and the number of times you called and that you've had to send it back and demand that they replace the computer with a new one. All-in-Ones are similar to laptops, the repairs are expensive and parts are hard to get, it's best to get the manufacturer to repair or replace it especially under the warranty.
I have just bought one of these damaged. The screen is smashed, there is no HDD, RAM, Battery and Power Supply. It also has bad damage to one corner (been dropped from a huge height by the looks) thus damaging lid, palm rest and base. I know RAM and P/S are not a great cost issue but I'm not sure if it is worth buying a new screen and hdd for it. I paid ?42.00 for laptop as it was part of a job lot, and I see they retail at around ?500-?600. Should I fix it up to sell or keep, or just sell it as it is to see if I can make a slight profit?
Forgot, obviously, not been able to check MOBO on it either yet, no spares to check it.6 more replies
Hello! I have a TouchSmart 600--an all-in-one with several inputs except one for a second monitor. (On Windows 7). I purchased a VGA - HDMI (AV?) adapter hoping it might work.It did not.Asking for help, or a direction, please. I've searched through several different forum threads similar to mine, but the responses were several years old with no resolution besides perhaps I should have gotten a USB adapter. I've yet to find someone who successfully paired a second monitor. I did get to Display - clicked detect. Nothing was detected. Second monitor (19inch Acer) says no signal. Appreciative of any adviceMore replies
I have been dealing with a broken home on my laptop for more than a year. I just searched these forums and found ~70 posts all with the same issue. This seems to be due to poor design that never should have made it past the quality assurance engineers, having a metal hinge screwed into non-reinforced plastic. I find it reprehensible that a premium laptop was made so poorly. I am told by local PC repair shops that it will cost me $400+ to get this fixed. That's 1/3 what I paid for the machine in the first place.I tried calling support and was directed to log onto the support site for assistance, from which I was directed to search the forums. I thought HP made better products than this, but hadn't wanted to put up the money to get one to find out. Then I bit the bullet and got rewarded with a busted hinge on a laptop that spends its days being used by my wife at home, bring opened and closed 2-3 times per day. And now it seems like I'm going to get the runaround to get this fixed, or just have to trash an otherwise great machine due to crappy hinges. I love this laptop as far as performance and hardware specs go but it is a pain to open and close to try and avoid breaking the other hinge and essentially removing the screen.Any guidance on what I can do to get an actual answer or a case submitted to get any useful help?More replies

Hi, I need to purchase a new motherboard for my TouchSmart 610. I've opened up the computer and found that the motherboard installed in the computer is model number DA0ZN8MB6I0 (Part number 648511-001). While trying to find a place to purchase this mother board, I see that is motherboard is fairly expensive. While searhing I also found another motherboard, model number DA0ZN9MB6H0 (Part number 648512-001), which is also used in the TouchSmart 610. Visually this motherboard looks the same at the orignal motherboard and is significanly cheaper. The part numbers differ by only one digit (before the revisoin number, 001), which makes me think that the two motherboards are very similar. Does anyone know if these two motehrboard are compatiable/interchangeable? Where can I get information on the difference between these two motherboards? My motherboard has a built in video cards, does anyone know if the second motehrboard does as well? or will I need to purchase a seperate video card if I were to purchase that motherbaord? Thanks for the help.More replies

Hello I have a touchsmart 300 and it has no sound from the speakers or headphone jack. I have tried the troubleshoot thing and it dont recognize anything wrong with them. please help. ive tried updating the driver and it says it is updated. so lost. thanks.
Did your pc have working sound when new?
Check the volume level, it's easy to turn it right down or mute it.
Check if the speakers are selected by going to the speaker icon in tray near the current time.
Right click on speaker icon, choose 'playback devices'.
A new box appears, with a speaker and it should have a green tick over it.
Right click on the icon and choose the option 'test', you should hear audio tones.
If you don't have a green tick, right click on icon and choose 'enable'.

Hi @markdag, Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.I understand that you are looking for information on connecting your Touchsmart All-in-One to a PS4. I am happy to give you a hand with this. The available connections on Touchsmart and All-in-Ones in general vary from model to model. Some have an HDMI port that can be used as an input, and others do not. Looking at the specifications of the model you gave: HP TouchSmart 600-1350a Desktop PC Product Specifications, it shows in one diagram that it could potentially have video inputs, but it is an option. If your system does not have those, then you would not be able to use the display on the All-in-One with your PS4. I hope that helps clarify, and if it does resolve your issue, please mark this post as a solution. Kudos would also be appreciated.1 more replies

I am not to up on computers, I have tried lots of things, i have had a couple of codes 0x490 and 0xc000000f - but I am not lost - I am using my old computer to put this message on here - whilst my HP TouchSmart sulks.

Does anyone here experience install Win XP Pro on HP touchsmart tx2(downgrade from Vista)? I need some advise. thank you.
I would advise you not to install XP on a touchsmart PC. The reasons are as follows.
1. Make sure all of the drivers are available on the HP Support website.
2. Since XP tablet edition is not available in retail, the touch screen won't work.
3. You will have ask HP to give you a OEM version of XP tablet edition (which I don't think they will provide).
If you just want to use it as a non-Touch screen PC. Go you may go ahead only after you have confirmed that the drivers are available.
Post back if you have any more questions.

Hello. I currently have a home network as follows.
3 PC's connected to router.
router connected to cable modem.
I would like to increase the througput on my LAN (amongst the 3 pc's) so I'm thinking about adding a switch such that it would be [3pc's->switch->router-cable modem]. I was wondering whether adding the switch would actually improve the LAN thoroughput or is this just adding unnecessarily repetetive. I am aware of the "7 layers of the osi model" of networking but am wondering whether switches and routers work on the same layers. Im assuming NO because router bases routing based on IP address while switch will deal with the MAC addresses (am i correct???). Since a switch will perform less inspections on the packets (IP filtering, SPI, etc..) am I going to get better results when adding the switch??
BTW, my router: SMC2804WBR
Switch i might add: Gigafast Mini Switch EZ500-S
Your router has a 100Mbit switch in it so unless you are getting a gigabit switch and your PCs have gigabit interfaces you will get no significant boost in network speed.
You may get a small speed inrease if you buy a good 100Mbit switch - the ones integrated in home routers tend to be the bottom of the barrel type - this will give you some extra under very high loads.
What is a "good" switch? You would want something with crossbar fabric and/or cut-through packet forwarding (those are expensive).
Hi - I am having to extend my network and want to use 2 switches. Current one is a Belkin 5 port 10/100. Now thinking of buying the:
Belkin 8 port 10/100 (F5D5513Iuk8) or
Netgear 8 port 10/100 (FS608) or
Netgear Prosafe 8 port 10/100 (FS108).
Which is the best one to get (I realise the Netgear Prosafe is normally more expensive but I can get it at the same price as the Belkin)?
Could anybody also advise if the second switch will provide as much speed (bandwidth, I think) to the PCs it supplies (3) as the first one which will be linked to my router and 3 PCs and a couple of printers. I would really appreciate any advice you can give - I have spent ages Googling this question and am still not clear.

When I ran Windows 98, I was constantly rebooting and always switched the whole system off at the end of the day.
What are the pros and cons of leaving Windows 2000 on indefinitely?
Also, will this affect the wear of my monitor? Should that be switched off separately and the system left running?
Win2K is certainly very much more stable than 98, and hasn't crashed since I had it installed.
480 MB RAM

I just bought a netgear Cable/DSL router with an 8 port switch built in. I am currently still at school, so there is no need for the router, but I want to use the hardware as a switch. I am confused as to how to set this up.
The router I have is a Netgear RO318.
I know very little about setting up networks, but I assumed it would be the same as just switching out the hub. Boy was I wrong. I switched them out and it doesn't work like I thought it would. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks all.
Actually, at this very second I am trying to figure out that exact same thing! I will definately help you out if and when i get it figured out.
Just wondering if I can connect a switch to a switch? so my network would look like this
Router ---- Switch ---- Switch - - - - computer connected wirelessly
primary reason for doing this is i want to bring the wireless router closer to the middle of my house... some areas are getting really weak signals..
You could do that, but why not just get a longer network cable? Ethernet on Cat-5e is good up to 100m.
I am in the process of setting up a pretty extensive gigabit network in my home. I have the new D-Link DIR-655 Pre-N Router with four gigabit ports and I am using all four to run to 8-port D-Link unmanaged switches in four locations. The first location is right next to the router. I have a fifth location. I searched hard for an 8-port wired gigabit router. If I had found one (at a reasonable price) I would use it as the base in from the modem then use the D-Link for wireless only (no routing). Alas ... I was unable to find one and so I am wondering if there are any issues running from a switch to another switch.
Only issue is a slight impariment in speed as it passes thru two switches and the router . . You may not be able to decerne it.
So I just bought a KVM Switch mini size, the guy at the store told me that it would do the trick. The trick meaning that I would be able to switch between the Xbox 360 and the PC with no problems, at first I had a lot of trouble getting it to work until I realised that I had forgotten to plug the keyboard cable into the KVM Switch. At least I managed to get things to work... A bit.
The problem is that I manage to switch between the PC and the 360, but once I've switched to the 360 it immediately goes back to the PC. I've checked everything in the manual and I'm doing it "right" as far as I know:
"7. Switch between the computers (PC1 and PC2) by pressing the 'Select' button on the front panel.
Use the 'Hot Key' command on the keyboard. Press [Scroll Lock] quickly twice and then or to switch between computer 1 and computer 2."
Whenever I do this the KVM Switch beeps, switches to the 360 then back to the PC, could anyone please give me a hand?
Would like to get some opinions on this. I have a Dell N3000 switch and a Cisco 2901 router. Somebody recommend to me to consolidate the two devices and let the N3000 switch and route. My question is, is there are performance increase? What is the downfall of bundling the two devices? What is the upside?

Is it possible to upgrade to SSD on this System.
Any informed reply will be much appreciated
Hello Kiatambari, and welcome to Eight Forums.
Yes, you could add or replace your HDD with a SSD if you like.
You would need to create a recovery USB first to be able to do a factory restore on the new SSD with.
