Can I install my HP Pavilion 500-205t HD in HP Pavilion 500-...

Q: Can I install my HP Pavilion 500-205t HD in HP Pavilion 500-...

My HP Pavilion 500-205t was destroyed by a lightning strike. The HD is o.k. I have purchased an HP Pavilion 500-490 because the specs were very close. I want to use my 205t HD. Both computers are Core i3-4130, have 1 TB 7200 SATA 6G 3.5 HDs, same OS (Windows 7 Pro 64). My question is: can I swap them out, or do I need to get an external HD enclosure and copy the 205t to the 490? If I need the external HD enclosure, looks like aluminum would be best, but would like recommendation for one which would hold my HD.

A:will a HP Pavilion 15-n034sa motherboard fit into a HP Pavilion 15-n083sa ?

Actually that's a hard question, generally its not possible to install another motherboard, sometimes it is. In this case one is an AMD platform and the other is an Intel platform, there could be tons of differences in mounting holes, physical design, clearance, connectors, heat dissipation requirements, cooling systems, etc. Laptops are not like desktops that use more standardized designs.

I WANT TO INSTALL XP IN DV6 3049TX LAPTOP BUT WHEN THE LAST STAGE COMES TO INSTALL IT TO BE SEEN BLUE WINDOWS WITH ERRORS. PLZ TELL ME WHAT CAN I DO

A:HOW TO INSTALL XP IN HP PAVILION DV6

We need a lot more information. Are you installing XP from a Restore Partition, Restore CD, or from an XP CD? Has XP been on this computer before? What does the BSOD screen say? Are you doing a Clean Install or just reinstalling over an existing install? Have you Formatted the drive before hand? If you are doing a clean install using an XP CD you have to boot into Setup (Bios) and change the HDD mode from AHCI to IDE or Compatibility Mpde
Once you have XP installed, if your not using a restore partition or disc, then go to the Device Manager, any devices with yellow flags need to have drivers installed. Then go to HP drivers site to install the drivers you need in the Device Manager.

I bought an HP Pavilion DV7-3020sa a week ago which has 2 HDD areas but only 1 HDD fitted.
I have bought an identical HDD to the one already installed to fit into the 2nd drive slot but cannot find anywhere where I can buy the lead to connect it to the mainboard.
Having now tried over 15 companies, including HP, I am becoming frustrated.
Does anyone know where the lead can be purchased?
It is a SATA socket on one end and a very very small plug on the other and is only around one inch long. (Please note that it does not connect directly to the mainboard in the usual clip-in method, it does have a small cable!)

PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Hi, I have an old HP Pavilion 771N that seems to have an edition of XP SP1 on it somewhere. I pulled the drive and set it up as an external on another computer to reformat it. I thought I could then install XP Pro SP2 from my own disk. I can't get it to boot from the new XP Pro SP2 disk. Anyone know how to do this?

Thanks,

Howdy,

There may be a key like F2 on start up that might say boot menu or similar. Or get into bios by tapping a key and change the boot order to CD to first Save and Exit.

here are the usual keys for entering Bios to press on startup.
{Delete} (modern Award and AMI BIOSes)
{F2} (modern Phoenix BIOSes)
{Ctrl}+{Alt}+{Esc}
{Ctrl}+{Esc}
{Alt}+{Esc}
{Ctrl}+{Alt}+{S}
{F1}

Hi: Some PC's can't boot from a USB flash drive. If you tap the F9 key at the beginning of the HP welcome screen, you should get a boot options menu, and if the PC can boot from a usb port, you will see the USB port listed as a boot option.  Select the USB boot option and hit the enter key. If you still can't boot from a USB port, I recommend you just make a W10 installation DVD, and install via the DVD drive if the PC comes with a DVD drive. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

A:What HDD should I install in a HP Pavilion DV7-4183CL?

It will take any 2.5 inch wide SATA laptop hard drive. The real question is how much space do you want to add and what is your budget? The second hard drive will not be bootable so it is purely a place to store files. 500 gig drives are not expensive and 500 gigs is a ton of space for music, pictures, even movies.  You are going to need a second hard drive caddy and connector: http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_5&products_id=345 http://www.amazon.com/Blue-500GB-Mobile-Hard-Drive/dp/B00C9TECFO/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1461606227&sr=1-1&keywords=500+gig+laptop+hard+drive&refinements=p_n_feature_keywords_two_browse-bin%3A6799353011%2Cp_n_feature_keywords_four_browse-bin%3A8067149011 If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

When Windows 10 was installed on your computer, a "fingerprint" of your computer was registered at Microsoft. This "fingerprint" entitles you to reinstall Windows 10 _without_ the requirement to enter a 25-character license-key. Download Windows 10 for free: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10on another computer, and write a DVD disk.  Boot your computer from that DVD disk. It will be the "generic" Windows 10, i.e., no HP-specific software that came with the original Windows 8. At the site:  http://support.hp.com  enter your model-number to search for HP-specific updates & software.

Greetings,Newbie here on the HP forums. My hard drive crashed (HP Pavilion dv7computer purchased at Costco on Feb. 19, 2012; now out of warranty).  I replaced crashed hard drive with SSD (solid state hard drive).  Windows 7 was pre-installed on the original HD. However, no CD came with the computer.  Win 7 and user manual were loaded on the original HD which crashed and I cannot access. I went to a local computer repair place recommended by a friend, which sold me the new SSD hard drive and provided a copy of Win 7 Professional which  I installed using the genuine original Win 7 product key on my computer.  The "new" Win 7 Pro loaded OK.  However, all the graphics and appearances of the windows content is distorted (wider) and operates differently than the original Win 7 that came with the computer.  This is a crucial element, since I work with photo editing for my professional photography business (just starting out) and the images must appear without distortion. Is there a link where I can find out the original version of Win 7 orginally pre-loaded with this computer (I believe it was the home [?] edition) and where I  can download this?  I've spent nearly a week contacting various places and searching this forum, however, I could not find the answer to my inquiry.  Your help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you very much. God bless you.

A:Replaced HD and want to install different OS on HP Pavilion dv6000

You have to have a valid Windws XP install disk... HP install disks detect the hard drive, and if they are not designed specifically for that drive, they wimply will not work. You may have to buy a copy of Windows XP, then boot to it...
You will need drivers, so check to see if the HP website offers drivers for that system configuration. If not, you have to be experienced enough to locate and download them yourself.

But what you propose is very possible... just go to the HP site for your HP model, and look for what operating systems are supported.

Can Win7 run successfully on this hardware?  At this time there is an old xp os that cannot be updated because the browser will not load internet pages.  If it is possible, where is the best source of win7?  Memory has been expanded and extra HDDs have been added.Advice appreciated, thanks, John.

A:Possibility to install Win 7 on Pavilion a6009n

Hi, John: You should be able to run W7 just fine on that PC. The only possible issue would be that the card reader won't work. It will work on Vista but I don't know about W7. Run the free windows 7 upgrade advisor and see what it reports. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20 As far as getting a copy of W7... The cheapest way I can think of is to find a W7 Home Premium upgrade kit on eBay. New and sealed would be best, but if the product has been used and the OS removed from the PC it was previously installed on, you can reactivate the software by phone by calling the Microsoft toll free activation phone number. You would have to do a clean (custom) install upgrading from XP to W7.

Hi all, I'm trying to reinstall Windows XP on a friends computer and just can't get it to work. The computer is an HP Pavilion a1600n. It has 1GB of memory, its an ASUS board and appears to have an nVidia nForce 430 chipset on it. It has a Western Digital Caviar Green Power 500 GB SATA drive in it that was used to replace the original drive that went bad.

During the installation process: Windows formats the drive and copies the Windows files to the drive then the computer restarts. This is where the trouble starts. After it restarts it gets hung on the Windows XP loading screen. After a manual reboot (or two) the Windows GUI Installation Interface comes up and I can make it through the whole process (Collecting Information, Dynamic Update, Preparing Installation, Installing Windows, & Finalizing Installation). This is where I end up dead in the water. After it finishes installing it reboots as usual but never passes the Windows XP loading screen. No matter how many times I power cycle it just sits at the loading screen with the blue bar scrolling and scrolling.

So I think the hard drive is bad. Now I install a Western Digital Caviar 80GB IDE drive. Windows XP installs and boots up with minimal trouble. I can actually get into Windows and install drivers and work. I even updated the BIOS from HP's support site. The weird thing is: Once I am running Windows on the IDE drive I can connect the WD SATA drive and it Windows recognizes it and it works fine (just like a st... Read more

A:How to install UEFI on Pavilion G6 1001tx

Here is the link to download UEFI:http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp61001-61500/sp61282.exe This package provides the HP UEFI Support Environment version 5.1.1.0 in supported models that are running a supported operating system.UEFI and Custom ImagingThe HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI must be run from a FAT or FAT32 partition with a partition name of "HP_TOOLS" or "EFI".This installer will give you the option to install to the HDD or a USB drive. If you install to the HDD and the HP_TOOLS or EFI partition is not present, the installer will prompt you to create the partition. If you install to a USB drive, the installer will rename the partition on the USB drive to HP_TOOLS.If you use a custom image, you can create the HP_TOOLS partition manually with type FAT32 and make the partition name HP_TOOLS.Caution- The HP_TOOLS partition is not protected and can therefore be deleted.- Backing up the computer using the Windows® Complete PC and other backup software does not back up the HP_TOOLS partition. For these reasons, HP recommends that you do not place additional data on the HP_TOOLS or EFI partition. Because the partition is not backed up, corruption or failure of the partition will result in loss of all data on the partition, plus loss of UEFI functionality. You can find more information on www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup

I'm tryin' to re-install the OS using the recovery cds (1 & 2). However, it's not working. I've followed the instructions to the letter. The instructions, on the HP website, state that when the recovery cd #1 is in the drive it will automatically start the re-install process. But, it doesn't happen.1. Insert disc in drive.2. Turn on computer.3. It jumps to the "loading windows files" status bar at the bottom of the screen (black).4. Then it turns windows, nothing is wrong with me, blue.5. Then, a DOS windows opens with "X:\windows\system32\cmd.exe" in the title bar. Within the DOS window it says,"SHOW SERVICE MESSAGE IF EXIST...DETERMINING USER PARTITION'S DRIVE LETTER" It never gets any further, no matter how long I wait. The drive light stops blinking.I appreciate any constructive help offered & thanks in advance.

I bought a 256 GB Sandisk SSD (the correct type for my Pavilion x2 Notebook) and want to replace the current 64 GB HP SSD in my machine.  After considering the cloning option (which would mean getting cloning software and an adapter to migrate the image to the new SSD), I have determined that probably the better approach is to install Windows 10 on the new SSD after I have installed it.  Can anyone provide guidance?  Suggestions?  For instance, when I check the boot sequence (which I assume I would have to set to USB)  I don't see a clear option, just one for a USK Key or device).  I would want it to boot from the USB in which I would connect a Windows 10 install. Notwithstanding the Key activation issues, I would appreciate some insight into how I can accomplish this.  I like this Pavilion x2, but the 64 GB SSD really is too small. Polenta.

Hi I just bought this beautiful device (HP Pavilion x2 - 10-k010nr). Unfortunately it comes with Windows8.I would like to install Ubuntu on it. But it just wont boot from the attached DVD drive. Here is what I did: Changed Bios settings:- disabled Secure boot- changed boot order to boot from external usb cd-drive Then I Restart: I would expect the device to boot from the attached CD drive however it completyly ignores the CD and directly boots into Windows. (eventhough I changed the boot order as described above). Does HP change the BIOS in order to prevent any other operating system from loading? Any helpfull comments are very much appreciated.

A:HP Pavilion x2 - 10-k010nr Ubuntu install

Hi @BillyBob123  Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I understand that you wish to install a different operating system for your notebook. I am happy to help with the issue, but as an FYI, HP only provides drivers for windows 8.1 for that model of notebook, and so will not support Ubuntu on that device. I would recommend that you make a set of recovery disks before you think of installing an unsupported operating system to give you at least a recovery option. In terms of the issue with the cd not reading it is most likely going to have to do with the cd itself. The notebook is almost certainly UEFI enabled, and so if you put in any bootable device it has to have an UEFI partition, unless you enable legacy support in the BIOS. Take a look at these:About UEFI and the Startup MenuEnable Legacy Boot Mode - neosmart.net

A:Can I install a SSD drive on a HP Pavilion g6 1005-sq ?

Yeah. No problem. See page 45 of the Manual here: Service Manual You can install any 2.5 inch wide SATA SSD. Samsung Evo 850 is a good one widely available on amazon.com and elsewhere. Get at least a 240 gig model. Smaller than that creates installation problems for software and is too small to use comfortably for very long.  Windows 7 or higher will "just work" with an SSD; no need to tinker with BIOS or registry. I currently use an hp pavilion dv7-1245dx with windows vista home premium. ive been trying to format and look at various forums boards to try to find a solution for the famous blue error screen. every time that o pop the windows xp cd into the machine it goes like its about to install the windows and then doesn't let me choose the hard drive or anything it goes straight to the blue error message saying that theres something wrong with my HD or i have a virus which is impossible bc i even bought a new HD to try and still shows the same message

So please if anybody knows how to fix this proble, help me out

Thanks a lot.

Charles

Dear Team,    Recently, I found out the display card giving problems, So I bought a new Asus GT730 2GB Display Card. From the startup screen, it only display HP logo, single beep, wait a while ....single beep again.....wait a while .....single beep.....no display on the screen already.   May I know the new display incompatible in this PC? In what way, I can test it?   I'll appreciate for your kindly reply.  Regards,

A:Can't install new Asus GT730 2GB on Pavilion HPE h8-1090d

Tflai, welcome to the forum. The GT 730 requires UEFI in the motherboard instead of a standard BIOS.  HP didn't begin using UEFI until mid-October, 2012.  There is no way to add UEFI to the motherboard.  The last series of video cards that didn't require UEFI were the GT 640's.  I suggest contacting the manufacturer's Tech Support for help in choosing the best card for your computer. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

I want to leave my old HDD (1TB) and buy a small additional SSD (maybe 256 GB) but I read that it might not fit the (apparently existing) slot which is apparently designed for a TV tuner?

A:can I install MSSD alongside the existing HDD in HP Pavilion...

That is right. The ability to use an mSSD was only present beginning with Intel 3rd gen Core processors and yours is 1st generation. That slot you see looks like a general pci-e slot but it is specialized likely for a WWAN (cellular) card only.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Hi: It is very possible you need to install the HP Connection Manager software. This package provides the HP Connection Manager for the supported notebook running a supported operating system. File name: sp53394.exe If your WWAN card was turned off by the connection manager or wireless assistant software, it will not show up in the device manager until you install the software and turn it on.

With my HPZD8000  Laptop I have upgraded Windows XP to Windows 7 then to Windows 8 and finally to Windows 10.
All the upgrades worked but there is a problem with the the screen driver. The generic Microsoft screen driver is loaded with all the upgrades but it does not give the ability to resize the screen correctly and I cannot find an appropriate screen driver.

As a last resort I loaded Linux Mint which has the proper screen driver and now the grand kids can play their favourite windows games usine the wine eulation on the old laptop.

Hi, I have an HP Pavilion x2 10-n100ns which has a 32Gb eMMC drive and a 500Gb SATA hard drive. It came with Windows 10 Home 64bit preinstalled on the 32Gb drive. When the Windows 10 anniversary update was available for install, it started but failed saying that there was not enough space. First question - how can I install the update? Is it possible? Second question - I would like to install and run Windows 10 from the SATA drive.I have made an image of the eMMC drive so that I can restore back to factory if required. When I run the Windows 10 setup from a USB installation stick and select clean install, I get the option of which disk to install to and I can see both the eMMC and SATA drives.I have deleted the partition off of the SATA drive which now appears as unallocated space. However the installation cannot continue on the SATA drive as I get the following message: -"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. Setup does not support configuration of or installation to disks connected through a USB or IEEE 1394 port."How can I install (and run) Windows 10 on the SATA drive? Thanks

But I have a retail version of XP and want to load it onto the new HDD. After running the XP setup/instal disc I learned that I need the sata drivers, otherwise setup stops. So my question is where can I find the sata drivers that I need to finish my installation of XP? Thanks.

There is an HP Pavilion a620n, XP SP3 box that refuses to accept the printer driver. I found the driver suite that I wish to install. The program that installs the driver starts up without complications. The installer begins to extract the files and then the installer disappears! BTW, I am connected to the HP Pavilion a620n remotely.

I thought that maybe the firewall or a spyware program was preventing it from installing the printer driver. I temporally turned off Comodo and SuperAntispyware and then tried to install the printer driver. No such luck! The printer driver will not install.

The printer is an HP PSC 1350 All-in-One Printer.

Any suggestions are welcome!

@Victorpro:  The problem you're up against is that Microsoft only supplies drivers with the most basic functionality, and what you really need for FULL functionality in laptops is the specialized drivers written for the specific hardware found in laptops -- and unfortunately, there are no HP Win10 drivers for your laptop.  HP only guarantees Win10 compatibility for machines made after August, 2013. HP does not have any schedule indicating when, or IF, they will be producing drivers for the older machines. Some driver alternatives you can pursue are listed below ...You can try using Windows Updates to find drivers from the Microsoft repositories for your device: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03330139You can also try following the instructions in this thread: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04763435/If that doesn't yield anything, you should read through this other link:  http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-dv6-6000-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-series/5048664/mo...If Windows Update doesn't yield new drivers, you can pursue alternative that are described in the linked Microsoft Windows Insider Community thread: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/wiki/insider_wintp-insider_devices/how-to-install-and-upd...If you then run into trouble installing drivers through Windows Update, you can try using Microsoft's Windows Update Troubleshooter: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/open-the-windows-update-troubleshooterGood Luck=====... Hello all,

I've recently bought a HP Pavilion 15-n252sq laptop, with Free Dos - unfortunately I can't install Windows 7 over it, due to the following error I keep receiveing in the Installation screen:

"Select the driver to be installed" - and regardless of the paths I have and the available folders, I can not seem to proceed wtih the W7 installation.

Please notice that, I've tried to use both a W7 DVD and also a bootable USB drive (and yes, connected in the USB 2.0 port and not USB 3.0 ) - but I always get to the same point where I have to select drivers.

Please also notice that the BIOS doesn't allow me to make any modifications except for some minor ones (like select boot priority, or enable USB 3.0), as the rest of the MAIN features are greyed out .

Can anyone please help me with this issue?

All three above links have been dead ends, and my pleas for help on the official HP Support Forums have collected cyberdust. As said, my laptop's model number is dv6-6c13nr. My laptop's Windows 7 was FUBAR from a computer virus that my sister managed to get on it somehow. I said to hell with it and just DBANed the entire hard drive and did a clean install of Windows 7. Everything was able install just fine except for the wireless adapter/driver.

I tried both the Broadcom Wireless LAN Driver and the Ralink 802.11 b/g/n WiFi Adapter linked in my PC model's driver page. On both of them, whenever I click on the downloaded file, nothing happens after the file unpacks, no installers run. I've tried running it regularly and running it as an administrator, I've also tried running the installers directly from where they were unpacked into the C drive, regularly and as an administrator.

All of the other drivers and software on my PC model's driver page installed just fine aside from the wireless, it's the only thing, and the most important thing, that I can't seem to get to work. The version of Windows 7 that shipped with the PC was Windows 7 Home Premium, the version that I have and that I installed is Windows 7 Ultimate. Are the drivers not Ultimate compatible?

Once again, hello. And--once again--thank you in advance for any help that anyone is willing to offer. I appreciate it. Earlier today, with some effort, I was actually able to install XP Pro on my HP Pavilion dv4 2040us (AMD Turion II M50, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200) in a dual boot configuration with the originally installed Windows 7. Go Team. Using EasyBCD and iReboot (thanks Google; thanks NeoSmart), I'm able to move between the operating systems without a hitch. The problem I'm now experiencing is an inability to find XP compatible drivers for my machine. I've spent a handful of hours searching, but to no avail. Do any of you more knowledgeable posters have any idea(s) where I might find compatible drivers? I'm especially keen to find a wireless (Atheros AR5009 a/g/n WiFi adaptor) driver, as an Atheros site search actually comes up with no matches for that entry! I understand that it's actually possible that these drivers don't exist, but maybe some kind soul knows of a site where I could download "generic" drivers, or something to that effect. All suggestions welcome, and thanks again for the effort.

I'd like to add some more info to my post.  I was asking if I was actually booting from my external Hard Drive. The answer was no. For some reason, the computer had fixed itself temporarily, and was booting perfectly fine for about 30 minutes.  It did this twice, before completely stopping again.  I rang HP earlier, to try to ordewr a replacement HDD. I waqs informed that all I needed was a new copy of Windows 7, as I didn't have the Windows 7 disc (it was ex-display model laptop, no copy was given) and they would send a technition round to my house to install it with a CD.  I'd be charged for this ofcourse, apparetly, if I were to go to a computer shop I'd be charged 80 pounds for Win 7 and and extra 70 for installation and fixing the laptop. The man on the phone seemed very wary on telling me the price and I never actually got an estimate.  He gave me a number to call so I could get a Tech sent out, but the number didn't work.  So I rang up the computer shop I love - they are always looking out for you. I explained it to them and what HP Help had said.  My computer shop guy said that It could either be my copy of Win 7 has become corrupt and needs re-installing (but he doubts it is this as it would say 'File is missing', not 'Boot device') or my Hard Drive software has a problem and will need replacing, which it is most likely to be.  His estimates for fixing where - If only Win 7... My friend has given me her laptop to look at because it was riddled with unwanted pop-ups, viruses and browser toolbars.

The laptpop is an HP Pavilion Notebook PC Model: G6-1195sa running Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium edition. It has an Intel i3 M370 processor running  @ 2.40 GHz.and has 3GB memory and a 300 GB hard drive.

I have removed all the viruses, etc and installed Avast free anti-virus. I ran a boot time scan and it is now clean. However, the USB ports were not recognising devices (flash drive, mouse) that I plugged in. The USB ports have power as shown by the flash drive's light and thedevice show up in device manager after being plugged in, but they don't function.

I tried updating the drivers from HP.com and the chipset driver install (sp52791.exe) appeared to work, yet did nothing. So I tried running it with Administrator permissions - still nothing. So I uninstalled the existing USB drivers and tried to reinstall - nothing. I booted into safe mode and ran it again with Admin permission = nothing.

I went to Intel.com to download the motherboard drivers. The program doesn't run... asking for admin permission. I ran it with admin permissions and it errors, reporting that it should be run with admin permissions.

Gentlemen,I have a Pavilion a1777c desktop which I got recently at a thrift store. All it needed was a HDD so I put in a Western Digital 1TB SATA and tried to install Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit which is the OS it shipped with.I say "tried" because the installation aborted at the last step, "Completing Installation", with a window that popped up reading, "Windows setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer's hardware." As far as I can determine, all the hardware is just what the computer shipped with -- with the exception of the newer, higher-capacity HDD.The first thing that occurs to me is that the Vista installation disk I used was SP1. I've used it before on a HP notebook and there was no problem. I have SP2 on another disk and could put that in after the initial installation, but the a1777c ships with a PCI graphics card and TV/FM tuner card. It could be  that the original HP installation media included SP2 so that I would need my own Vista installation disk with SP2 included to get a successful installation.I would consider a set of Rescue Disks but that option is not available on the Downloads and Software page for this computer. There might be a third party resource for recue media, but likely at three times the price HP would charge. Will this computer, as shipped, work properly under Windows 7? On the Drivers and Software page I chose Win7 as the OS just for fun and there was only one thing that came up as different from the stuff available f... Read more

A:Pavilion a1777c Aborted Vista Clean Install

Hi, Grant: It is possible that the new hard drive you purchased is an advanced format hard drive which Vista doesn't recognize. Advanced formatted hard drives are formatted with the GPT table instead of the older MBR partition table, so that they can work with the newer UEFI BIOS's, which your model doesn't have. So, here are my recommendations... 1. Visit the WD website and see if they have a bootable tool to format the drive in MBR. You would have to delete all partitions, make one new partition, format it in MBR-NTFS and see if Vista installs that way. 2. There are free 3rd party software suites that can do that for you such as this one... https://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html

I bought a laptop installed with Windows 7 OS.  It was a clean install.  The battery isn't recognized by windows support assistant and I need sme help.  This laptop eats a battery in 45 minutes.  It has 2, count 'em, two new batteries.  Neither will get near an hour.  I have done a soft restart.  Deleted the product in Device manager and restarted it with the battery to no avail.  I need your help.  I cleaned the connections with a real light sandpaper.  Nothing has worked.  What do I do? Info:  3.0ghz/2048mb(2gig ram)60 gig Win 7 Home premium.

I also turned off all the bloatware.  Killed everything in startup, that wasn't needed. Did the same in Device manager.

Hello!

I intend to do a clean install of Win 7 Home premium on my HP pavilion dv4-2045dx. I will do this by running ISO image off the desktop which I have already downloaded and extracted.

I will have everything copied to my external before I do this. I have a recovery partition on my hard drive, and I plan on copying the folder "SwSetup" and all of its components onto the external before proceeding.

1.) Do I need all the "SwSetup" components or just the "Drivers" folder?

2.) When I proceed with the clean install, will my laptop's keyboard and touchpad function so that I may be able to complete the process, or will the drivers for them be deleted / will the drivers be unusable? I have not found much info on this.

I am doing this because my computer is getting WAY slow, and I want to start fresh and WITHOUT the HP bloatware. Mainly what I need to know is, does windows 7 have drivers for the keyboard and mouse ready to go when doing a clean install from the ISO image?

Thank you!

My notebook has gone terribly slow and I have triedMcAfee Enterprise, Hitmanpro and even MalwareBytes but to no avail. To make it worse it some times overheats. I have set it on top of a heat dissipation platform it has somewhat helped keeping the heat controlled but the internal fan is still running at very high rpm. gets a bit noisy. what would be a solution to this these problems which seem to be interelated. Hello, Bought a SSD for my dad's laptop and reinstalled Windows 7 with the correct drivers however, the sound is playing up, there is crackling noise from the speakers when he has his headphones in, this did not happen when he had his original OS on the laptop. The only audio devices on the laptop are High Definition Audio Device and AMD High Definition Audio Device, am I missing driver or installed a incorrect one? Thanks

A:HP Pavilion G6 1325sa sound issue after fresh install

Hi: You should be seeing an IDT HD audio device, so I would say you are missing the IDT audio driver, which controls the notebook speakers. The AMD HD audio device controls the HDMI audio out of the HDMI port. See if installing this IDT HD audio driver resolves the problem... ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55001-55500/sp55082.exe

I've searched HP's support site, but I don't see any drivers for any OS available for my model, the Pavilion g6-1d21dx. I did a clean install of Windows 10, but the Wi-Fi button doesn't work. Apparently there is a driver called HP Wireless Button Driver that I need to install. When I do a Google search for it, there is a link to an HP download page, but the link appears to be dead. Is HP not allowing us to download drivers anymore? This is frustrating, because getting drivers should be simple and easy. Can someone please tell me where I can get this and any other drivers I might need after doing a clean install of Windows 10? Thank you.

I have a HP Pavilion dv6-6b70ed, with an intel HD family and a Radeon 6490M. Yesterday while i was watching a twitch stream, my laptop just froze, so i thought maybe restarting would do some good (couldn't do anything else). After i shut it down by holding the power button, it just didn't boot anymore.Tried booting into safe mode to go back to my previous restore point, but it wouldn't let me in. It just kept rebooting when i pressed the safemode option. And when i tried to start it normally, it gave me a black screen after the windows loadingscreen. So i thought formatting and reďnstalling windows 7 could help and went for it.The thing is though, after formatting and reďnstalling windows, I just couldn't get my switchable graphics working.I downloaded my drivers from the HP website and installed them.but after i installed the chipset and tried to install the intel gpu driver, it just gave me an error, telling me i don't have the requirments to install it. Same for the amd gpu.after some "google-ing" i found something for my intel hd and fixed that one, but i couldn't fix my 6490m.amd's driver detect says that i have a 7xxxm model even though i dont. so i made another restore point and just went for it. While installing the driver the screen started flickering (which is normal while installing a gpu driver) but after some flickering it gave me the black screen of death and wouln't boot anymore so i went back to my restore point. After trying some other drivers i came to the ... Read more

My laptop is too slow, I have no idea why. I installed new copy of Windows XP last night and formatted the hard drive and it didn't sort my problem out. I did basic hard drive maintenance such as disk cleanup, defrag, checkdisk etc. I've had this laptop for about 5-6 years and it became slow a couple of months ago. I never opened the laptop or anything like that at all. Please help me what to do, thanks.

The old hard drive completely failed to the point that I am unable to recover any data on it. So I put in a new hard drive and went to reinstall Vista and got the lovely error about needing to load a driver for the hard drive. I've tried every Vista driver listed and it won't load the driver for the hard drive. I flashed the BIOS, still no luck. The BIOS does not offer any options to change the settings on how to read the hard drive.

Any suggestions on what else I could try?

A:HP Pavilion dv6911om - unable to install Vista on new hard drive

Somewhere in your bios there will be a setting to select which mode the hard drive is running in. You may well have a SATA drive which Vista should have drivers for but in this case you need to set the hard drive to run in IDE mode then it should install. After installation load all the mobo drivers which should then allow you to set the HD back to sata/raid operation which is much faster.

Suffered a full HDD crash. Fortunately I had my data all recently backed up on an external drive. So I figured this is a good time to upgrade a little. I got a new 240gb SSD drive. Since the HDD was toast, there is no getting the recovery partition off it. (believe me, I tried) OK, so I figured I'd just download the Win 7 Home ISO and do a fresh install. I know I can still get drivers from the HP website so this SHOULD BE no problem. wrong! I boot from the win 7 home SP1 DVD that I created from the ISO. Answered the Location and language screen. Installation starts and bang, I get a window saying a needed driver is missing. Of course, no indication of what driver is missing, just a browse or cancel option.

OK, so I figure I need to make a driver disc for this HP box. I go online and get the original drivers from HP. But they are all EXE's that start the install when you run them rather than just extracting the drivers to disk. So, I figure these are likely self-extracting archives. Sure enough if I open the .EXE using winrar I see folders. I can extract them and make a disc full of the original drivers. I haven't actually done this yet but it's my next step I guess.

While on HP's support site I notice they have (had) recovery discs available at one time, but no more. I'm wondering if there is something special about this hardware that is going to make win 7 unable to install without getting the specially crated recovery disc for it..

Has anyone out ther... Read more

Hey guys this is actually my first post here! So nice to meet everyone and I hope I don't embarrass myself with stupid questions. I would appreciate any advice to help me make a decision work the following. I purchased my HP Pavillion 500 - 017 C about 6 months ago. It came out of the box with Windows 8.1,an AMD A8-5500 with a integrated AMD Radeon HD 7560D GPU. I've just recently started to throw a little money into this thing and I've been extremely happy with the performance gains so far. Whoops anyways it also came with a 1TB WD Green Drive and 8GB of DDR3 Ram. I've upgraded the RAM to 20GB and I just installed a Samsung 840 Pro 128GB SSD a couple nights ago so I'm using the SSD along with the 1TB WD. I used the Samsung Data Migration and Magician software to clone the OS drive. Anyways I love to game but have never picked the keyboard and mouse up to do so. It seems I was just always more than content having multiple consoles and never wanted to spend the money on a PC that was powerful enough. (Btw FightinIRISH513 is my Xbox Live ID. I'm on Xbox One daily.) I am really surprised by how fast this computer performs after I installed the RAM but mainly after installation of the SSD. It's awesome to hit the power button and Windows is booted in about 3 seconds. Ok so finally to my questions...... I obviously want to make my next step getting a very good graphics card. The thing is my brother had a brand new, in the box Nvidia GeForce 210 DDR3 Low Profile card with 10... Read more

Upgraded this machine from Windows 7. Now trying to install the Windows 10 Anniversary Update and getting the message 'We couldn't update the System Reserved Partition.'  Main System partition is 100MB (not the partition with Windows 10 in it).  I know itshould be at least 350MB but cannot extend it because of the partition labeled'Reserved Partition 128MB' right after it which all of the free level partition tools I've tried refuse to alter this partition either in size or placement. So does anyone know how to get the preinstalled partitions to the right size and placementto accept Windows 10 version 1607 install? Oh, without doing a 'clean' install.

Hard drive test ok
Some times the computer restarts ok but then ask for administrator password

It sounds like something went wrong during the Windows re-installation. Since it sounds like you have installation media and this is a fresh install anyway, the first thing I would do is try installing again from the Installation DVD.

My wife's HP Pavilion has hit the bunk, or so it seems.

It's a four year old laptop, which has been suffering from serious spyware problems for a while. Before it quit, I ran Panda active scan on it, and it detected 200+ malware infections. When I tried cleaning out Temp. Internet files, cookies, etc., IE would freeze and not respond.

Then - the mouse quit on logon. So, I thought, I've had it, time to reformat and reinstall manufacturer software. Which I did, only to find out that on boot-up mouse and keyboard both refused to respond. Not good.

Ran the diagnostic utility, which said something about RAM being set wrong, and then point out some non-specific "board problem".

Does anyone have any idea what this is about, before I reach for my biggest sledge hammer and have some quality time in my backyard with this piece of junk? :suspiciou

download Spybot search and destroy and ad-aware.
run both.

panda anti-virus sucks. Use norton or mcafee.

consider using an alternate web browser like mozilla or firefox. They're less prone to virus and trojan attacks.

it says it is a ELAN touchpad, i've spent over an hour now googling this issue. all signs are pointing to it being a driver issue after a windows 10 upgrade yet i haven't seen an actual fix anywhere. can anyone point me to a link of the driver that i need please before i throw this thing into the street

elan say to contact manufacturer yet HP have nothing on their website unless i have completely missed something obvious. please help

A:HP Pavilion x2

If you go to the linked HP page and enter your product number, you should be able to find the HP drivers for your touchpad: http://h22207.www2.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp/

If there are no Win10 drivers, then you should not have upgraded to Win10, because not every HP machine running Win8.1 is upgradeable to Win10 without problems. You could have checked the compatibility on the HP site prior to the upgrade.

Could be the connection, or something broke like the actual speaker, one of the wires, or the circuit board/adapter/plug for the speaker.

You will need to open it up and a look, no other way around that.
