Hello, Lenovo offers the 65W Travel AC Adapter to be lighter and smaller than the ordinary AC Adapters, which it is why it is handy for travel. Also, it comes with a country specific plug, that can be removed / changed, anyhow, I learned Lenovo does not think that to exchange the power plug makes it a travel adapter, apparently. This is despite the fact that the country plug can be removed.Amazing. So here there is few questions: 1) why does Lenovo not sell a kit with the spare country plugs for different countries? After all, that was meant to be a travel adapter?! Ah no, i forgot, the hotline told me it is only a travel adapter because it is smaller and lighter - NOT becuase you can remove the country specific plug!!! 2) The only picture with the other country plugs is attached, anyhow I found it on a site with bad english, which is why my concern is it might be a copy, not the original part. 3) This document shows the US, CN and EU country plugs with Replacement Number Parts (FRU),e.g. FRU 03X6286 for the US country plug. Anyhow, nobody seems to be able to ship such a single country plug. https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/documents/acc100125 4)This document shows the country plugs for other regions, e.g. UK, AU, BR... https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/documents/acc100168 Why are these two seperate documents / what is the difference - if there is any -since the body part FRU 03X8995 seems to be the same in both editions?! 5) ... Running an HP826 on ME. I have two hard drives, a CD reader, A CD burner and a floppy drive. Over the years I have probably mixed up the power cords to these units. Only the floppy drive power connection is the way the computer was delivered. All the power connections are numbered: P1, P3 etc. but these come out of the power supply on two different cable groups.

Does it make any difference which CD units and Hard drives are connected to which cable?

Thanks,

On the whole I like HP laptops. BUT the 2 that I have had have both had AC Power problems !!! My lastest, a DV5000, now just past warranty has also developed a problem.

It would drop off of AC power and run on Battery until low-batt, and shut down. It started out randomly and got worse with shorter and shorter durations. Unplugging and replugging the power cable AT THE PC would start the cycle back on AC power. Eventually it got ridiculously short.

There was no "looseness" or "wobble" in the socket, as was the case with my original Lappie, when it actually broke loose from the board. This made me wonder if it was a physical problem or a circuitry problem.

I tested the "Brick" with a resistive load of Lamps, and it stayed on continuously. So I felt confident it was either the Female Plug, or the board charging circuitry. I still don't know WHAT the problem is, but I came up with a work around, after much Googling.

I found/bought an Expansion Cable that is an octopus of connectors for audio, video, USB and POWER! It attaches on the right side of the PC's base and then you can plug the power brick cord directly into a hanging connector.

This works!!!!

I'm still unsure about the cause of the problem tho, because I don't know if the same charging circuits are used in this setup???

Anyway if any reader has a similar problem check out the "HP Notebook All-in-one Media Cable xc 1000. It was only $35.

I recently bought a linksys wusb600n. I plugged it in followed the steps and it worked. However I have 1 of the available 5 bars. I am 30 feet away from the router and I get this bad of a signal. I downloaded the newest drivers and tried updating them but they said they were already at the newest. So what can I do to get full signal and full capability out of this wireless adapter.
Thanks

is there anything between the router and the wireless (adapter?)? and if so what? if you happen to have a heroic or legendary edition of halo 3 and a 360 lying around you could watch the Router 7.0 that's on the LE disc but i doubt you'd have that just lying around.

My laptop will no longer turn on.  When the AC adapter is plugged in, the LED light is white indicating power is arriving at the laptop. However, nothing happens when I push the power button. Troubleshooting steps I have completed already include: Hard reset (several times including after each step below)Tried starting without the batteryRemoved all removable components and reseated themRemoved all removable components as well as bottom cover. Cleaned with compressed air. Put everything back.Nothing appears wrong and nothing happened between the last time it turned on and this time that I am aware of. The laptop is out of warranty, and I am pretty handy with computers. Is there anything that can be suggested short of a hardware replacement that would help get this resolved? TIA

The tips I got with this Kensington 33197 power adapter have numbers stenciled on them like N3, N5, N19, etc. The tips sold on their web site make no mention of the "N" numbers and have numbers like K20059, K20050, etc. and there is no cross reference.

You can also see a complete reference for "N" numbers to all the laptops they support at the above link. Again, no mention of the numbers Kensington uses on their site.

I need a cross reference for these kinds of numbers.

Kensington referred me to their telephone tech support; but, there is a language or cultural barrier that prevents their understanding what I need.

Does anyone know of such a reference?

My internet was working fine, when suddenly I got a pop-up from my laptop saying that wireless had been switched off. Usually this would happen if I accidentally flipped a switch, but in this case it was in the "on" position. I checked my internet, it was working (I wired into my modem to post this), but the wireless just seems to be out. I rebooted a couple of times, the first time my wireless briefly worked but shut off after just about a minute, on the second reboot it didn't come back at all.

I ran HijackThis, which showed me wserving.exe, perfs.exe and routing.exe. I tried to kill them with HJT, but they return instantly. Obviously I don't know if this spyware is what's causing the wireless problem, but it's what I've found so far. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

I put the newer moniter back on and set 640x480 thinking this is the problem even knowing that old moniter on a diferent pc was runing 16 mill colors and 800x600.
Still get wavey lines three distorted screens side by side.
Any help please.

A:display adapter-moniter still shows lines/distorted screen

The monitor refresh rates are different in what they can support. Change the monitor type to SVGA @640x480 256 colors and it should work. What make and model is the newer monitor? And does it support the rrefresh rates and number of colors you are setting it to. No monitor will display more than it is physically capable of displaying.

This is a common problem (I see lots of posts)
The problem source is the [Dell] AC adapter.  PA-21 Family, 65W, P/N: NX061.  It is made in China.
I have an XPS M1330.  Using Dell after warranty service, replaced the Mother Board twice, replaced the battery twice, replaced the AC adapter twice - not fixing it.
Turns out the power warning message is very informative.  It states "Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or greater for best system performance".  So, I plugged in my Dell 95W adapter - WOW Problem Solved.
A lab test of my new Dell 65W AC adapter shows it to be 64.6 watts.  If this unit gets hot (like after several hours of use), it may not put out the full 65 watts - the system may not recognize the adapter, it may power the system ok, but won't charge the battery.
These units burn out after only a few months of use. Their cables are too fragile. If Dell's or their supplier's Quality Control can't produce a reliable 65W product - I found seveal "Made In USA" universal adapters.

A:AC Adapter - Alert - "AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined"

Well my solution was simple.
I just removed the battery pack and powered up my notebook. Then I turned off the notebook replaced the battery pack and VOILA. The error message was gone.

Under hardware in CCC
Primary adapter: AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series
Disabled adapter: AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series

Drivers are up to date.

I installed the 7800 as a replacement for an older (second) graphics card.
I hooked them together using a Crossfire bridge.
Still, the device remains disabled. I checked in Device Manager and it says that both units are enabled.

Also, there was a related downloads on the website called 'GVFLASH_GV-R785OC-2GD.exe'
I think it's called a BIOS Flash. I clicked start flash and then clicked on my second card without changing any settings or saving/accepting any changes. My screen went a little dysfunctional but I restarted in safe mode, disabled the second card and restarted. Then I turned the second card back on. Everything is working normally since then. Could my system have sustained any damage from this mishap?

A:Catalyst Control Center shows second video card as 'Disabled Adapter'

Nope, i wouldn't think so.

You could always stress test your system just to be sure, using tools like IntelBurnTest for your CPU, Furmark for your graphics card and Memtest86 for your RAM sticks.

CPU - Stress Test Using IntelBurnTest

http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

EDIT:- Although Windows 7 supports the installation of 2 or more discrete graphics cards of similar or different brands, why would you want to crossfire those two (6900 and 7800 series) cards in the 1st place? CrossfireX wouldn't work with different generations of cards AFAIK.

I have a strange issue. I have a Lenovo T60 laptop and I am experiencing problems with the power management/power guage.

It will often show the battery not installed (power gauge is a greyish-white color with dashed lines) or it shows a red X. It does not matter if I am on AC power or on Battery power, it will show the full range of power, battery level, not installed, or an error.

I have searched Lenovo's site and I seem to remember seeing an FAQ about this, but now that I need it, I cannot find it.

What can I check or do to stop this? While it is annoying, I am not sure if I am having a battery problem or not. I did check my battery on Lenovo's site to see if it was recalled and it is not.

I do appreciate any help that any one can give me.

Thanks!

I have a T23 IBM laptop. When I push the power button, it flashes green lights on the startup row like it will start up but then all lights except the (Z) go off. The fan sounds like it runs with a pulsating whirr. That is the only noise I can hear and it is quite loud. It is not a rattle, just a soft whirr that gets loud and then soft repeatedly.
I get nothing on the screen, no post, no beeps, nothing but black. When the problem first started, the LCD screen showed rows of different colors, not icons, just rows of colors.

I have a brand new Sony Vaio, which I just bought a month ago.

There's this problem with it whereby after I shut down/hibernate, the next time/day I want to turn on my PC, the power button shows that it is on, but there's no display on the LCD Screen.

I have no choice but to force shut down (press power button for 4 secs) and then turn on my PC again. The 2nd time, it will power up like usual, the LCD displays boot screen again and everything work well (except that each time I do that, my windows time is reset to Jan. 2005 12.00AM)

Would it be something wrong with my BIOS?

I hope someone can help me with that, because it is sort of annoying at times and frequent force shut down may harm the PC I believe.

My friend accidentally spilt pop into his computer, it shut off, and he then proceded to turn the computer back on. The computer stayed on for a few minutes but then shut off. Once it wouldn't turn on anymore he asked if i could take a look at it.

I originally built the computer for him so I knew his specs and proceded to look at it.

The first thing I did was try turning it on and no go. I looked inside and checked the entire computer for burn / singe marks but I did not see any. I saw some pop residue here and there but it wasn't much, he said only a few drips got inside. He has a 140mm fan on the top of his computer the pop fell through and the fan splashed it everywhere. But I saw barely any pop.

I replaced the power supply with a brand new on and I'm still getting the same problem. I tested the hard drive in another computer and it still works. Graphics card looks fine and im assuming the processor is fine as well but I can't be positive.

Any ideas are welcome, im getting rather flustered.

A:Motherboard shows power but computer will not turn on?

I suspect motherboard is the first place to have a look at; because probability is it may be shorted and need replacement.

By the way in such situations, best course of action is to turn off the PC/notebook immediately and let it completely dry (may take a day or two depending upon conditions) before trying to turn it back on to give its maximum chance to survive.

For the last two weeks, every time I start my Dell INSPIRON E1705 while using the power supply I am greeted with the following message. "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 90W AC adapter or higher for best system operation". I press the F1 Key and everything works fine. I've read about this on other websites and most say it's a design flaw in the power supply after the cord has been properly wound around the supply as designed. Apparently a few of the cords internal wire strands become broken and cause this message. My computer is from June 2006 and shouldn't be having this issue so early...or ever. This seems like a flaw that should have created some type of manufacturers recall since so many people are having this issue. I'm of course out of warranty, will Dell replace this free of charge?

`

A:Power Supply - "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined....."

You are correct, the failure is due toloss of the power supply ID signal. Sometimes this happens because of strain on the plug, which breaks the signal wire. Some even are so severe that the insulation breaks away from the plug; this is due to rough handling. The other cause is one or more of the power socket solder connections to the system board become broken. This also is related to severe handling. I have seen one case where all three power connections and three of four mechanical connections were disconnected. If the power supply is bad, a replacement will cure the problem. If not, then the socket is bad, and this will require a system board replacement. If you are experienced, you can try to resolder the connections. I am experienced and was not able to get my daughter's E6000 to work by resoldered. More recent Dells are using a replacable power connection board which is a much cheaper repair.

Hi All,
Need some expert assistance here.

Please note that this happened when I was away from my computer and it was left on.  My wife came back from work and noticed the following after she confirmed there was a power failure.  So, I'm going by what the wife says:

1) After coming home, my wife noticed the power went out on our street.  After turning the comp back on, a BSOD came up on the computer screen (I'm not sure what it said).

2) She turned off the computer manually and then re-booted....it went into some type of "Repair" and it recommended to continue, so my wife says yes and the computer did its thing.

3) After, re-booting all seemed fine, programs, files, internet was intact.

However, after I used it in the evening, I noticed that one of my partitions was missing.  Upon viewing Disk Management and the partition structure in Windows, there was a section on the drive that says "Unallocated Space" of about 80GB.  It appears in place of where the missing partition is supposed to be.

The missing partition is NOT the Windows partition (I can boot up no problem), but rather where I keep photos, videos, movies and my iTunes music library.

I've tried booting to GParted Live CD and when the graphical depiction of my partitions come up, it shows the same thing....my primary boot partition (C drive) and the Unallocated space where my D drive is supposed to be.

Next, I tried using TestDisk to... Read more

A:Partition disappears after power failure, now shows Unallocated.

If you used Testdisk, did you press the upper case "P" when the partition was highlighted? Are your files listed? Did you use the Testdisk for Windows version? You can recover your files by using the ":" key to select your files/folders and the upper case "C" to copy. The default location for recovery would be the folder you unzipped Testdisk to. I think recovering the files this way would be the safest. Then you could partition and format the unallocated space again after retrieving all your files. If you have an external drive, you could open testdisk from there. Using the "a" key would select all files and recover them to your external drive.

Some time ago, the PC gave the same problem. It wouldn't turn on. When I pressed the button, it turned on but showed nothing. I had replaced the CPU and that seemed to work. I didn't use the PC that much, rarely you know. But now, after some time, it gives the same problem.
It turns on, the front light is on, it makes the normal noise the pc makes when it's turned on , but if I try to shut it down by holding the power button it just doesn't work.
So again, I tried replacing the CPU and it worked again. I kept it all day working, just to be sure, and sometimes I would restart it and it would work again. No problems at all.
So I turned it off at night, and next morning it just would make the same problem. So I tried replacing the PSU. And it worked again.
Now while I had the PC with the new PSU, I tried to insert the old CPU, and again, it would turn on.
So I bought a new PSU and installed it. The same thing, tried restarting too, and it would work. But this morning the same problem happened.

I also tried another CPU today and yet no signs of working.
I don't know now what to think.

I have this strange problem that will force me to can my AGP X850PE if i cant get it fixed.

This is not a unique occurance but i didnt make the link until this morning.

The problem i was experiencing would be that if i changed the hardware in my pc, when i turned it back on again it would show the boot screens, then the windows xp loading bar, then the prettier windows xp loading screen (black background with the colored logo) then the screen goes blank. In a good boot it would take a few seconds then my mouse pointer appears and windows loads, but in this case the screen actually goes darker, as if all power is no longer sent to the screen but my monitor doesnt state "no signal". Thats as far as anything gets - i can hear windows xp load in the background but i cant be sure that it gets all the way to end. The only choice is a hard reset which sends me to the safe mode menu after.
Today i accidently overloaded a plug socket elsewhere in my house (not a regular occurence) and when i came to turn my pc on, it did the same thing. From this I think that the problem isnt me removing or changing hardware, but my removing of the power cable from the back of the pc. Its causing some sort of problem with the card settings that arent fixed easily.
The way ive fixed it previously would be to reboot in vga mode. The ati Catalyst Control Centre then tells me i have the wrong driver for the CCC but thats probably cos its loading in vga mode using the windows driver.

When I plug a power cord in, the power light instantly (almost) lights up, whether or not I've pressed anything to try powering it up. When I DO press the power button, nothing changes. Nothing sounds like it's running at all. Someone suggested moving the RAM around, so I placed it in a different slot, but that didn't change anything. This was a frankensteined computer that was given to me, so I can't even really provide much in the way of specs. It's an IBM ThinkCentre S50 (shell anyway), but appears to be loaded with a 40GB Seagate HDD, Intel P4, 512MB RAM, and an AcBel power supply. In case this matters, and I don't know enough to know or what I would do about it, but there are a few open plugs for power. The motherboard has a couple plugs running into it, but one still open. The HDD has two empty plugs, but one plugged into it. I would have no idea how to play around with the power supply. Not to say that's the problem. Thanks for any help.

A:Computer shows power light upon plugging in, but no boot, noise, or any startup

It could be the power supply (officially called a "PSU" or Power Supply Unit) that's faulty and needs repalcing, but you were right not to go messing with it as even a faulty one can give you a nasty shock from the power that's stored up inside it. I've worked on fixing & upgrading computers for many years, yet even I draw the line at changing a PSU. I let my local PC shop do it for safety reasons, plus I believe in supporting little independant PC shops whenever possible.

I bought a Dynex USB 2.0 4-Port Hub last week and have decided to add an external power supply to power the hub. The short and terse User Manual notes on the final page that a 5Volt / 2.5 Amp Power Adapter may be connected. I called their customer support number and talked to a lady, but her best advice was return to the store and ask there. My experience with this store over the years has been fat chance for this kind of request. Has anyone got a suggestion as to where I can purchase such a USB Power Adapter?

A:USB Hub Power Adapter

Radio Shack would be a good place to start although you might have to get one of their adjustable models. A Google search should also turn up something. Actually I just replaced my D-Link powered USB1 hub with a USB2 model. The old one is just sitting around and it has a 5V 2.4A adapter. If you want it so you can use the adapter just PM me and I'll send it to you.

Can I use 45 Watt adapter for dell inspiron 15 5559?? I got the adapter along with the laptop when I bought it. But a warning is displayed on screen prompting me to use 65 Watt adapter... If so why 65 Watt adapter wasn't given with the laptop instead of 45 Watt?

A:Power adapter

Hi SUSMI,
The system is designed to support both 45W and 65W adapters - see the specifications here - http://dell.to/2fhPLIf
When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Could you test with another power adapter if possible?
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point.
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us.These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

I recently bought a replacement power adapter for my dell e1505. The computer works but it won't charge the battery and tells me that since the computer does not recognize the charger, I need to reseat the power adapter... What does that mean?

A:Power Adapter

Hello aaronbaron,

Reseat the power adapter just means make sure the power adapter is plugged in good on the laptop and the wall outlet. I would try powering off the laptop, unplug the power cord, take the new battery out. Reinstall the new battery only and try to power on the computer. If that does not work plug in the power cord and power up with the new battery installed.

I just recently Inhearted a computer from school, after my IT teacher couldn't get it to run. Both my IT teacher and I thought for sure it was the power supply or the power switch. The Problem is that the computer dosn't do anything at all when you press the power button. My teacher told me that when he first started having the problem he would press the power button, and maybe Once out of every fifty times it might boot up. then the problem got worse, and only started like every 100th time, now it dosn't work at all. The system is a Used MDG with a 1.5GHZ cpu, and mostly all stock parts. The system came with a stock 300 watt PSU. When I first took it apart, I pulled out the power supply completely, and tried to put in another one, that I had laying around, however it had the wrong connector, so I just put the old one back in. when I put the PSU back in, it seemed to have power, as I could hear the electricty following thorugh it, and a green Led light would light up on the mother board, however if I pushed the power button, it would still do nothing, the CPU fan wouldn't even turn. The only time I actually notice the CPU Fan do a quick turn, is if I disconect the power from the PSU for a long period of time, then reconnect it. So I went to the local computer store tonight with the switch, and the man tested for me, and it did end of being a faulty switch, so I purchased I brand new. I then put it into the computer, and still nothing, and believ... Read more

I have a Precision 7510 updated with the latest Bios and drivers. Today my TB15 arrived. I haven't tested connecting a monitor to it yet only a network cable and USB 3.0 stick - this worked fine.
I also tried starting the laptop from the button on the TB15 which also works fine.
However on startup I receive an error message:
"Alert! You have attached an undersized 130W power adapter to you system, which is less than the recommended 180W power adapter" ... message carries on a bit.
Now the thing is both the TB15 power adapter and 7510 power adapter are the same (identical part number) and  are shown to be 180W output.
What's the problem here and what do I need to do ?

This is a recent problem - a previous adapter broke and now subsequent adapters use 100% CPU and sloooow my laptop.

It's an hp 6720s 13 months old, XP Home, HP 65W power adapter.

Laptop running fine on battery only. Laptop runs fine when battery removed and power adapter is connected. Laptop does not run fine when battery and power adapter connected - 100% CPU.

Also, the charge indicator light no longer works and the power icon does not show that the battery is charging, although it is.

I've updated the BIOS, restored factory power settings and tested the power adapter during startup and have the same prob with the CPU usage.

What could cause the power adapter to use 100% CPU? Please let me know if you need more info, cheers.

I have a Inspiron 15 3541 touch screen and "misplaced" my power cord and adapter. I'm using a Dell adapter from a different computer, but when I turned on my laptop, I get a message requiring a system or admin password even before it boots up. Is this because of the different adapter? How many pins did my adapter have? What problems does a different adapter create?

A:Power adapter pins

The password that is showing up before your computer boots sounds like there is a BIOS password set on the computer.  Unfortunately if you don't remember that password then you are probably stuck.  You can probably go online and search and see if there is a way to reset BIOS on the laptop and get it to default and remove the password that is set on it.  If there is a hard drive password though then the only way to remove that if you forgot it is to install a new hard drive as the password will follow the drive, not the computer.
Your power supply should have only 1 pin.  Dell used the same adapter for their computers for a while, they come in different wattage though and if you use an adapter that is too low then it may not be able to charge the battery while you use it or at all.  If the plug fits and it is a Dell charger you should be okay to at least get the computer up and running.  If it is a low wattage charger and the setting is set in BIOS (usually is by default) you'll get a message from your computer telling you that the charger isn't powerful enough to charge the battery while in use.

I am planning on making this project myself but first I have one question. Here is the project I will be making:
http://siliconrepublic.blogspot.com.au/2011/02/arduino-based-pc-ambient-lighting.html

It says I need a 12V DC supply for powering the breadboard. When searching up for 12V DC supplies, I only get power supply's that plug into the wrong wall socket (I live in Australia).
Do I need to get something like the article suggests:
http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-AC-Veh...1KZ6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1297231222&sr=8-2

Or can I get something such as this:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DC-12V-1...?pt=AU_Laptop_Accessories&hash=item336678ae52
If the first option is the only possibility, how do I get the plug to go into my wall socket?
Also, how do I get the other end plugged into the breadboard when the product just has a single plug on the end?

A:What type of power adapter do I need?

You can use the Ebay adaptor, the easiest way to get 2 wires is to get a socket that fits the plug, like this one :- http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/5-5-x-2-...05?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item4167b5b34d and solder 2 wires to that socket.

The circuit at your link uses a 2 wire plug into the breadboard, you would have to get a similar plug OR you could push bare wires into the breadboard.

OR you could cut the plug off to reveal the 2 wires but they will probably be quite thin and may not connect well if pushed into the breadboard holes.

There is no particular reason for this, either side of the power supply could be lengthened or shortened.

Hi everyone.

I know that this is not really entirely related to a Windows 7 computer and especially to these forums, but I really need some advice on this and it would be great if anyone who has experience in voltage, amps and safety for laptop power adapters would be perfect.

My friend has just traveled down to my house for a week but has foolishly forgot his plug for the power socket on his power adapter. He uses this for his computer. Again unrelated becuase it is an Apple 45W MagSafe2 adapter.

So I was wondering if he could simply use a cord like this one below to plug into the adapter?
The black cord is 2.5A 250V~

The adapter is 100-240V~ 1A

These are both for input.

Any help would be greatly appreciated .

A:Power Adapter Problem

That white 'thing' appears to be for an Apple Macintosh MacBook/MacBook Pro [I have a MacBook Pro] and you might not be able use the black cord due to fit, the V-shaped notch in the black plug would have to let it be inserted. But it probably won't hurt to try as it's still a 110/120Volt source.

The MacBook power adapter also came with a piece that replaced that cord and has the prongs to plug directly into a wall socket/extension cord, maybe it's in his Notebook bag.

I have a 90w power adapter from an older notebook that will work with my HP DV5-1015nr. I transport my notebook between home and office. I'd like to utilize the older power brick, so that I won't need to transport a power brick back and forth. The tips on both adapters, of course, are of a different diameter.      My multi-tester identifies that the tip is hot for both adapters. The problem I have is that the older power brick has two wires: core wire (+) and shield (-), and the newer power adapter has three wires: shield that is connected to the core of tip (+), black that is connected to outer part of cylindrical shaft that must be the ground, and white connected to inner part of cylindrical shaft (also negative?). So do the black and white wires on the newer adapter need to be soldered to the shield on the older one?

A:Wiring for Power adapter?

Just a guess, since it is 90watt, they may have run the extra wire to carry the load, shield is always much larger than center tip wire. Did you measure voltage and ploarity of all three connections with the brick plugged in? Tip is always + and ouside is always - on a HP, not sure what the third is, see if there is any voltage on it, It could also be some sort of sensor wire for the charging system on the mobo. Better to buy another adapter than smoke the motherboard on the lappy taking a chance. If you want to chance it just connect the two wires that are on the center and outside. Leave the 3rd odd one unconnected. probably can be found used for cheap.

The special "fool proof" charging cord has two extra pins on the AC adapter end and two extra pins on the Yoga 3 Pro end. The extra pins only make a connection when the fool proof cord is plugged in to the Lenovo charger and the Yoga 3 Pro. When a regular USB cord is plugged into either the charger or the Yoga 3 Pro, it makes a regular USB connection.

Can I charge the Yoga 3 Pro with any USB charger?

No. The Yoga 3 Pro requires 2A at 20V, which is what the provided 40W Lenovo AC adapter supplies.

Can I charge a USB device with the Yoga 3 Pro AC adapter?

Absolutely. In addition to 2A at 20, the Yoga 3 Pro AC adapter supplies 2A at 5.2V (10.4W), enough to charge a phone or tablet. Works for iPad.

Where can I buy spare AC adapters and cords?

AC adapters with cords are sold in the accessories section of the Lenovo store.

Where do I find the part numbers for the AC adapter and cord?

Look for AC Adapters In the PDF Yoga 3 Pro Hardware Maintenance Manual.

What are the USB specs of the Yoga 3 charging port?

It's a USB 2.0 port. It provides enough power to charge an iPhone, but not enough to charge an iPad. If you want to charge an iPad, try the USB 3.0 port on the right of the Yoga 3 Pro.

My neighbour was given a second-hand computer and asked for my help setting it up.

It is a Dell Optiplex 755 running Win7.

Currently installed graphics is NVidia Quadro FX 3500.

I looked up the service tag and this is not the original card (Original was ATI HD2400XT).

The issue I have is that the FX3500 is an 80W card, with the PCI-E slot having a max of 75W. On booting I get low power warnings from the NVidia card.

The card has a 6 pin PCI-E connection available for the additional power, but the PSU has no PCI-E power cable.

The only free power cables from the PSU are a couple of 15pin SATA cables. I have seen adapter cables for 15pin SATA to 6 pin PCI-E. Are these any good for my situation?

If not, what are the alternatives? New PSU? Different GFX card?

A:Power adapter cable for PCI-E

Based on what you just told us, one of those adapter cables should work just fine.

Though I had posted this previously, but cannot find it anywhere!

Got an Altec Lansing Multimedia Computer Speaker System ACS41. Apparently they were used on a Gateway 2000 PC.
However, the power adapter was lost.
The speakers do not have any electrical specs on them regarding voltage, amps, and polarity.

Anyone have a similar set of speakers, or,
know of any way this type of info can be found out, in order to get the right power adapter for them. Do not care to fry them with an overkill. The speakers probably came with PCs running Windows 98SE, or Windows Millennium.

Prefer not to go to Radio Shack, they normally are rather expensive, and the people who own this do not want to go that route.

Thanks for the help.

A:Power Adapter for Speaker Set

We had a system crash here and some posts were lost. There was an answer, but I forget what it was. It may be as cheap to buy a new pair of speakers as to buy a power adapter.

Hello!

I received the following message when I am booting up my Dell ATG Laptop. Does this mean I need a new power cord? If so, is there anywhere recommended to purchase or do I just go to the dell website?

The AC Power Adapter Wattage and Type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge. The system will adjust the performance to match the power available. Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or greater for best system performance. To resolve this issue, try to reset the power adapter. Strike the F3 key (before F1 or F2 key) if you do not want to see the power warning again.

Strike the F1 to to continue. F2 to run the setup utility, Pree F5 to run onboard diagnostics.
Thank you so much for the assistance!

Baxter

It may be the AC Adapter, or the internal battery has died.

Hi all,

i hope im posting in the right section....(apologies if not)

The power adapter/charger for my toshiba laptop failed recently.

Im looking for a replacement and have see several different options.

The original toshiba part (part no: PA3290E-3AC3) is available for about 50 pounds
however ive seem lots online which are the same spec, and described as replacments for the above part. the thing is these cost less than half the price of the original
Although these are not the genuine part it says they will work.

i was a bit worried that it may damage my laptop if i dont use the exact part.

could anyone advise me on this please and the best thig to do.

Thanks
A

A:power adapter does not work

I have a Toshiba that I am using an adapter made by Lite-On. I have been using it for about 2 years and no ill effects. It was about 1/3 the cost of the Toshiba adapter.
