My Headphone mic is not working in my Lenovo Y50-7...

Q: My Headphone mic is not working in my Lenovo Y50-7...

Okay, I recently bought this new zebronic ghost headset(http://bit.ly/1UeppF3). The headset is great but the only problem is that the mic doesn't pick up any sound(when I insert the mic cable/jack into my combo audio jack). The mic get recognised but doesn't pick up any sound, nd also my internal laptop mic works. So I tried it with my friend's headset and his mic didn't pick any sound either. Well then I tried using a Headset adapter(this one : http://amzn.to/1Uepclb), But the same results. Then I bought a usb Sound card(This one : http://amzn.to/1YtHoHC), didn't solve the issue either. I have searched everywhere for a solution but couldn't find it anywhere. The reason why I use a external mic is because my internal mic picks up too much noise. I have Tried the following :1.Updated all my Drivers.2.uninstalled my audio drivers and reinstalled them(Devive manager meathod)3.Tried inserting only the headset microphone cable in the audio jack4.Tried combinig the cable using a headset adapter and also using a usb sound card However when I select Agc(auto gain control) under custom tab in microphone properties it goes up half a level, but it still doesn't regonise any sound. Also when I select listen through this device(in headset microphone properties), I hear a loud screeching noise(like rubbing sand paper together - static noise I guess), although this happens only when the micrphone volume is above 80%. Please help me resolve this issue. Thanks in advance 100% microphone level??disabled all other microphones?AGC on?

Check Smart Audio (if not loaded in taskbar), you'll see it in control panel. Lenovo has its own master controls. There maybe another but it doesn't hit me (waiting for my morning coffee).

Hi Kwstas_chris,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issues with microphone not working on your Lenovo  G50-75 laptop.

Go to Control Panel, click on Hardware and Sound Click on Sound then you devices should come up ; speakers, Digital Audio, and headphones plug your headphones in, then select headphones at the bottom and select set as default option !! then when you disconnect your headphones it automatically switches to the speakers and when you plug them back in it automatically will switch to headphones!!

Hope this helps. Do post back if the issue persists!

Best regards,

Hi,It seems that the headphone jack on my Lenovo Z40 has started to fail. I have to fiddle around with headphone cables to get proper sound, and my speaker doesn't produce any sound (presumably because the computer thinks headphones are plugged in). What are my options for repair? I assume the headphone jack is part of a board, how much would it cost to repair it?Thanks!

I have a problem with this port other than it being very frustrating. I just bought the Hyper X Revolver headset, and since it is a combo jack I bought a splitter with the plugs for headphone/mic and the one end to plug into the computer. When I plug it in, the computer shows that I have plugged something into the jack. The sound is working just fine, but the microphone WILL NOT WORK. I have tried everything. Anyone else had the same problem with this piece of junk port? If so, how can I fix this? Thanks!

First step, reinstall the Conexant Audio driver. Lenovo does not list a Windows 7 driver but they do list a Vista driver and it should be Win 7 compatible.

Does the "audio combo jack" on the Lenovo G710 conform to the CTIA or the OMTP standard? That is, is it left/right/gnd/mic or left/right/mic/gnd? And why is this information so hard to find?

One time it was working and the next it was not. I get sound from the laptop's speakers whether the headphone jack has headphones plugged in or not. It worked fine and then POOF, it didn't! I have restarted and also checked all sound settings, and can see nothing "physical" upon close inspection of the jack.
Any ideas will be most appreciated!

Hi,

I have a dual boot of Fedora and Windows, and when I boot into Fedora, my headphones work fine. When I boot into Windows 7 64bit, my headphones don't work. My laptop speakers work fine however, and I tried re-installing drivers. I made sure that my headphones are the default playback device, and I only have one headphone jack.

Other people who had this issue solved it by replacing their audio jack, but for me that is not a problem because the audio jack works fine when I boot into Fedora.

Please help!

A:Laptop speakers working, but headphone jack not working only on Window

Normally, the "Speakers" (PC sound) is set as the Default Playback device and not Headphones. In fact, newer RealTek sound systems do not even show the Headphones when plugged in.

Are you using the correct sound drivers? Not the generic Windows installed High Definition Audio Codec.

What all is listed in the Device Manager, Sound section?

Hello, I have a new T530 with Windows 8 OS. I am having trouble using the integrated camera. It functions neither in the Windows camera app nor in Skype. In both cases I get a picture with a gray background and a camera with a line through it. In Device manager, the camera does appear, is enabled, and the drivers are up to date. After looking through other threads, I tried checking whether the camera was plugged in and indeed it was. When using Skype and I set the camera to on (Skype did detect the camera), I still got the gray no camera image, but the green light on the camera itself turned on.I also tried using Fn+F6 to check settings. Lenovo settings opens, but the when I click the camera settings Icon, the screen loads a blank page that says "Camera" in the top right and has a back button (left pointing arrow) in the top left hand corner. The back button does not seem to work and I must change the window to something else in order to exit/close settings.I tried manually installing both camera drivers and "power management" ("energy management"?) drivers. Neither of this solved either of these issues. Please help me to resolve this problem. Thank you.

Hi, euterpenc

I would make sure that the BIOS is up to date in the system. The current BIOS for your system is 2.07 and can be found here. Also, I would ensure that the chipset drivers are up to date, and those can be found here.

Hope it helps, and let me know how it goes

I've been noticing this problem on and off, where the right headphone bud doesn't work on my Lenovo Z51-70 laptop. The headphones work fine (they work perfectly well on my phone). I have also tried with another headphone, with the same result. The sound card is a Realtek HD sound card. I have tried the following: 1. Go to Realtek HD Audio Manager and tick the "Enable auto-popup dialog when device has been plugged in". Every time I plug in the headphone, the window pops up. However, the Device dropdown is disabled. 2. When I go to Playback Devices, I'm unable to see Headphones. I'm trying to download the latest drivers from the Lenovo website but the site seems to be down (it takes me to the https://download.lenovo.com/eol/index.html page, where my model isn't listed). I just tried installing the latest drivers from the Realtek website but this hasn't changed anything. What do I do?? Please help!

hsingbora,
Welcome to SF. Try making and unmaking the connection with the headphone jack. Also blast some air into the female socket. I also like to use a little contact cleaner on the jack, just a little and make and unmake connections a bunch and see if that free's up the spring contacts inside.

Any suggestions?

It is recommended to fill out your system specs. I have no idea what your system is or what audio driver/manager you are using.

If you have a realtek HD audio card- Install the audio manager, and set it to allow setting to pop up when jacks are used. That way you can tell it if you inserting headphones, mic, etc, and it will mute the external speakers and use the headphones-otherwise it plays out the speakers (this is common if you have a realtek card, and use the default Microsoft hd sound driver/software codecs. You may also note the "volume knob" does not work)

If you have a realtek card install the realtek driver/audio manager here:http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false

Hello, thank you for taking the time to read my topic, and hopefuly reply.

Earlier today, I was on my laptop, and I closed the lid, headphones plugged in and working, operating perfectly fine, and locked the door behind me.

In no less then 2 minutes I returned, and the computer acted as if the headphones were not plugged in at all, playing from the built in speakers. I tried different pairs of headphones, all don't work, and I see no visible problems with any of them, I've checked them over multiple times for tears, exposed wires, and the like.

I think it may be something with the headphone jack itself internally, but frankly I know nothing about how the computer is built, so I wouldn't know.

I appreciate you taking the time to read this, thank you in advance.

I have just tried my headphone jack for the first time and the sound does not come through them. They still come out of speakers despte the headphone being plugged in. I have tried the headphones on other devices and they work fine. Looking on YouTube I have updated the drivers  and then put my headphones in the headphone socket, and checked the Sound driver (Realtek HD Audio) on the "Playback devices" tab -  it shows a headphone icon with a red down arrow next to it with a description "Realtek HD Audio 2nd Output" and "Not Plugged In". How do I get this socket to "plug in"  ? Or is this a hardware problem ? Thanks in advance for anyone's help.

Hey everybody, I have a very important question. My tablet's headphone jack is having a problem, and no matter what headphones I use when I turn the volume all the way up, it only has the volume of turning it about 1/4 or 1/5 of the way up. When it happened I was playing my guitar to some music, and I have the volume up all the way so I could still hear the music over the guitar. But then I heard some static and the sound went out. My first thought was that YouTube messed up and the video froze, but I quickly realized that that wasn't the problem. So I thought it was the headphones, which I've had since Christmas and they were only $20. Then I tried with my Dad's headphones and I have the same problem. My tablet is in good condition, as I've only dropped it a couple times on carpet and I never dropped it into any water or anything. But then again, I don't think that would have anything to do with it because it just randomly cut out while playing a YouTube video.

(BTW, I'm using a 8GB Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook)

A:Headphone Jack Not Working Right

I really hope it isn't the case, but it almost sounds like you pushed the internal DAC too hard :s

What did you have plugged into the headphone jack when the issue first happened (when you were playing your guitar)?

If you are inserting the headphones once film has started, chances are the film has already picked up the sound device as speaker and wants to use that. changing in the middle of something often results in no sound, for me at least. try plugging phones in before you turn the computer on, and leave them in. hopefully that should cure it. Please note the word hopefully...

2) I tried with microsoft fix it, but I had nothing changed.

can anyone advice me what I can do?

Hey Auto2. The first thing I would do is bring your machine up to SP3 as it's been out for years now. XP with SP2 is not supported. You can download then double-click on the self executing SP3 file from the link below. This 316MB file is for the 32bit version of XP which most people have.Disregard the IT Pros nomenclature, takes about 15-20 minutes on average to install once you start it.

Well, I have a new computer. And I recently bought a Headset & Microphone, to play games with. It was all working perfect, until my brother plugged in the Headset plug, into the microphone port. And I disconnected it because it was wrong. Then, when I went to plug it into the Headset Port, it wouldn't read.

I've checked the headset to see if it was the plug, but it wasn't. I opened my computer to check if the connections to the port are okay, and they are. I believe it might be a software issue, but not sure as to what to do now.

Many thanks if you can help me.

I tend to think it's a hardware problem, but to make sure open up your Device Manager and expand all of the +'s. Look for yellow exclamation points. That would indicate the problem device. Also check your sound and microphone configuration. I know this link is for skype, but it addresses the same problem and has pretty detailed solutionshttp://www.skype.com/help/guides

It looks like, with the "High Definition Audio Device" that you only have the basic function Windows installed sound drivers.

Try installing the PC Vendor's sound driver. Same way for HDMI install the Video Card vendor's drivers.

Over time, this has been getting worse and now, sound comes out of the speakers regardless of whether i have any heaphones plugged in. The headphone jack is really wobbly and i'm assuming i'll need to take my pc to a repair shop? Thanks in advance

Hallo,

The microphone on this non-brand headset isn't working due to the microphone not showing up under the recording devices. Audio is working for the headset (and anything else that I plug in ), but not the microphone. The green bars do not go up in the audio manager either when I test the microphone. I'd like to use this for teamspeak, but there doesn't seem to be anything that I have found on google to solve this so far, or anything that I've figured out on my end. I have attached a screenshot of what is happening in my audio manager. When any headphones/earphones are plugged into the green jack, they work and sound is audible, however in the audio manager it still says that no headset is plugged in even with them plugged in & working.

Any help is appreciated, thanks. =)

A:Non-usb headphone set, microphone not working

The first thing I see is "High Definition Audio Device" which suggests you do not have the correct sound driver installed. The High Definition Audio Device is the generic, basic function, driver installed by Windows. Get the correct sound driver from ASUS for your specific PC model and install that. That is the first step.

I have a small headphone problem.

Two computers, two headphones.
First computer: Dell 8250, Creative SB Live series sound card
Second computer: Dell 4600, built in sound card.

First headphone: Labtec, works with both computers
Second headphone: Firstline (I think a no-brand, considering its price), works with Dell 8250, but not with 4600 (can hear perfectly, but no recording through the mike so people can not hear me on, say, Skype or on sound recorder).

The second computer and the firstline headphone belong to a friend, and I would not advise him to buy another headphone, if the current one can work. Many thanks. The pins on firstline are color coded (pink and green) for microphone and lineout, while on Labtec, these are pink and black.

Many thanks for your help.

A:Headphone working on one computer, not on another

G'day js73, you are aware that the two headset plugs are generally one for mic and one for audio, as to why one works on one machine and not on another there is no simple explanation as far as I can see.
You obviously are using the same two jack-sockets and can hear normally in both instances but one mic has no audio, apart from checking and trying different level settings in the audio set levels by right-clicking the speaker icon near the clock the only other possibility is that there must be some very odd circumstance with one headset, maybe the actual mic plug is slightly different physically and not contacting one socket contact properly somehow.
Cheers, qldit.

I have two sets of headphones, and two computers - one PC with Windows 7 on it, and one netbook with Ubuntu.

I've done the following spading:

When plugged into the netbook, the headphones work correctly - not the headphones' fault
The microphone works
The PC has two sockets into which I can plug the headphones in, both provide the same bad result - probably not the sockets' fault, and probably not my fault for plugging them in badly

---

What do you recommend I do now? The problem could be in the software somewhere, or somewhere I have no idea of. Suggestions?

If you system has a Left/Right balance control, it could be its set to Right and if that is the case you won't hear anything from the left earpiece.

A:Y50 Headphone Jack Not Working

hi Niphoros,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Just to verify, do you get a pop-up notification whenever you plugged-in a headphone / earphone?
- Link to picture

If yes then your issue is most likely similar to this article. As per these specs, the Y50 uses an audio combo jack (headphone and mic). Although this port supports various mobile headphones, you may need to get a PC Headset to 3.5mm Smartphone Adapter if you're using a traditional headset with a separate.audio and mic connector.

Headphone jack stopped working.  When headphones plugged in, sound still comes out of the speakers.  Not the jack.  Tried different headphones.

About a couple months ago, I had to bring it to work. I supervised the use of this machine and everything was going fine. I brought it back home later to find out that when I plugged my headphones into the jack, it only gave me the sound in the LEFT ear. I thought it might have been my headphones but that's not the case. Anyway that I could fix it manually by myself OR will I have to replace something within the machine?

Hi everyone, I just switched over at work to the new gen4 version of the X1 Carbon, which of course means I also switched to the new OneLink+ dock.  My issue is that the headphone port on the dock does not work.   The headphone port on the laptop itself does work, it's just the dock's headphone port. When Windows does its initial install of drivers, it gives a failed message for "ThinkPad OneLink Plus Cable dock Audio" [image 1 in link below].  This is also listed with a yellow ! in the device manager [image 2 in link below].  I've gone to Lenovo's driver page and updated the dock drivers (and firmware), as well as the audio drivers just in case.  No luck from any of those. My only lead is that when I try to manually install drives for it, I get a message about them not being digitally signed [image 3 in link below]. Googling the phrase "ThinkPad OneLink Plus Cable dock Audio" returns almost no results and those that do show up look extra shady. Link to screenshots: http://imgur.com/a/3ucoD Anyone run into this issue before?  Any ideas? Thanks!

So far I have tried my 3 favourite headphones on my new build system - Creative Wraths, Corsair vengeance 2100, and G35s. First 2 are wireless, all are USB.

Installation goes fine, and I can hear wonderfully. However using the software for each to test mic gives nothing at all. Working through Windows (v7 pro) shows sound is being detected through the mic.

Any ideas? Seems very strange that all 3 have the same problem, considering they all work fine on my 2nd rig. Stuck!!

Edit: System spec as profiled.

A:Solved: Headphone mics not working

not sure what program you are trying to use the mic in, but could it be that your mic is not set as the default mic (even if its the only one you have plugged in)? you should be able to check this somewhere in the program's settings. If you tell me what program you are trying to use I might be able to help further.

Update:  after reading thru the forums I experimented by plugging in the headphones BEFORE I booted and when I do, the sound comes thru the headphones.  If I unplug it returns to the speakers and  if I want it back thru the phones I have to reboot, again with the phones plugged in.  I guess my question now would be how to control this without having to reboot?

I recently got a pair of new headphones. Eager to try them out I plug them into my laptop audio jack. They worked perfectly with no problems and they sounded great.

Only a few hours later I decide to use them on my lappy again and the audio was only coming out of the left headphone speaker. This irritated me and I instantly thought that the headphones were faulty. I plug them into my ipod and notice the headphones are working fine. This leads me to think that it is something wrong with my laptop. I plug in a different pair of earphones into the jack and again, the left side only works.

I am confused as to whether it is my settings or my headphone jack but I'm more inclined to think that it is my headphone jack which is the problem. Is there anyone who has had a similar problem or anyone who may have an idea as to how to fix this?

Thanks,
Nick

I have an HP Pavillion laptop using Realtek HD Audio drivers, the laptop picks up that something has been plugged into the 3.5mm Jack on the side (Single 3.5mm Jack designed for mic in/headphone out combined) but it doesn't seem to send the audio through. If I do a test in playback devices it shows the green bars fluctuating as if it is playing sound but no sound is actually played through, I have tried several sets of headphones all of which work on my desktop and iPod but non work on this piece of **bleep** HP laptop (which also has Wireless connectivity issues and is supposed to be brand new ( it was just replaced due to the screen failing) ) You guys got an amazing solution to this or do I just return it and blacklist HP for life given the fact that you can't seem to keep ontop of simple things like 3.5mm jack to send an electrical signal that is output as an audible sound.

Hello I've bought my Lenovo laptop about half a year ago. From the very beginning the headphone audio jack had some problems, there would be no sound when headphones are plugged in, however restarting the laptop usually helped. I have not had this problem for a few months until now. When I plug in headphones, no sound comes out and restarting the computer does not help. Furthermore, the sound of the laptop speakers seems to be a big different than it normally used to be - the sound is a bit lower and so to say ''dimmer''. Please let me know I could fix it.

I have an HP Pavillion entertainment Laptop dv9700. I got a virus taken off my computer a few months ago but to take the virus off the computer place I took it took had to wipe my computer and then put all my data back. Since then I've had two frustrating problems:

1. When I plug my headphones into the headphone jack, the sound still plays from the regular speakers and I don't hear any sound in the headphones (I've already tried suing a different pair of headphones and that didn't help).

2. My microphone (which came pre-installed on the computer) doesn't work.

PLEASE help me. I'm taking a plane on Friday and REALLY need my computer to keep me sane during my layover. Thanks!!

Hi guys, I have a HP tx2-1325au that I am refurbishing for a friend, all parts are working... except for the headphone out. Simply put, in Windows 7 Pro (64 bit) with the Realtek drivers from the official HP website, there will be no pop-up notification (and therefore no sound) when I plug in my headphones but there will be such a pop-up notification when I plug my mic into the mic port. The optical port is also working (tested with a Fiio D03K). But in Parted Magic, a Linux distro run from an USB drive, all three ports are working, meaning that the problem is not a hardware issue. I have tried Windows drivers from many sources but they did not solve the problem. Using the default Windows driver (i.e. uninstalled all Realtek drivers) did not resolve the issue either (a "Front Panel Jack" appears along with an "Internal ATAPI Jack"). Strangest part is that in Realtek drivers, the headphones out appear as a Recording device (either black or pink port) May I know how else can I solve this? Thanks!

We have a Toshiba Portege M800 PPM81A-05W01J running Windows 7

The headphone jack on the computer seems to have stopped working. I have checked in playback devices when the headphones ( or external speakers) are plugged in and they do not show up there. Strangely enough when the computer is docked to the Dynadock and the headphones are plugged into the headphone jack on the dynadock then they show up in the playback devices dialogue window.

Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this, or troubleshoot it further.

A:XPS13 2015 Headphone Jack not working

I was able to solve this issue as follows (Windows 8.1):
- open the Windows Task Manager (ctrl+alt+del - Task manager)
- go to the Startup tab
- make sure all audio related tasks are enabled (mine had realtek audio manager disabled)
- restart
After that, you can open the Dell Audio control panel again. I did a "reset defaults" and that fixed it. Popup is appearing again when I plug in my headset.

Hello there, I own a Dell inspiron 6000 (August 2005 purchase) and recently I noticed that my headphone/external speaker port does not work anymore. Yes, I did the basics such as checking if my sound is muted or not. Oddly enough, my default laptop speakers work fully (built-in sound card) but, my headphones do not when I plug them in (and when I plug them in or external speakers my default laptop speakers can't be heard at all). Can you suggest what may be the problem here and how to fix it? If you look at the two attachments at the bottom, you will see one that has my dxdiag general computer information and the other screenshot is a dxdiag of my soundcard information (note: "Test DirectSound" failed).

Last month while walking i was listening songs and suddenly song stopped playing...i thought that my earphone was damaged so i switched to my headphones coloud boom when i returned to home...and yes they were working properly...but about from last week i'm suffering from weird problem... Songs were stopped if i slightly touch to upper part of male connector of jack(coloud boom) and then i have to remove jack and then reconnect it... today i got that my earphone and headphone are in good condition as i tried them on my laptop they are working very well...
So my question is what should i do to repair my phone's jack...should i give it to service center(as i bought it last year on 14th december so phone is under the warranty period) or should i try something at home?

Hello!

I'm trying to get my headphones/speakers working again.

It worked well until a week and when I tried to plug the speakers in yesterday there was no sound (same is true for several headphones...)

I tried to update the driver (realtek), I looked into the configurations, but as my meager knowledge it seems all fine, I tried to follow the instructions from several other forums, but still silence... (the PC speakers do work though).

Then I tried to restore the system, but unfortunately the only restore point it gives me for this months is yesterday afternoon; at that point I had already tired to update the driver, etc. and after restoring it to that point the headphone plug is still not working.

For some reason it doesn't go back to the previous months (the last time I used my headphones was on the 6th of Dec.) - is there any explanation for that, or do I have to access previous restore points via another path?

Please let me know your thoughts!!

Thanks a lot in advance!

A:[SOLVED] Headphone plug stopped working

Hello Regenwurm and welcome to TSF,

It is possible that the headphone jack is physically damaged or not making proper contact. It is quite hard to tell from looking in from the outside.

First thing I would like you to do is try a clean boot.

Here is the Microsoft support article on configuring XP clean boot.

How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" state

Once you have performed the clean boot, attempt to use your headphones again.

Hello. I have a new, custom build and cannot get the front audio to work. The two USB ports along side the Mic and Headphone jacks work fine.
System Specs
The motherboard is a GA-990XA-UD3. Chipset AMD RD9XO Rev 02. Southbridge AMD
SB10/950 R40. Bios Award Software Ver F8
CPU: AMD Phenom II x6 1090T Black Edition Tuban HDT90ZFBGRBOX
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 16GB 4 x 4GB CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9
OS: Win7 (6.1) Home Premium SP 1 (Build 7601) 64 bit. Direct X 11.0
Don't think it makes a difference but I am running displayport out of the graphics card (Zotac 560 ZT-50701-10M) into the monitor (NEC PA241)

I downloaded updated drivers for the Reatec HD Audio Manager but that made no difference.
Audio out from the back panel works fine.

Any advice on what to try next would be greatly appreciated!

A:GA-990XA-UD3 Front Audio - Headphone and Mic - not working

Do you have the HD Audio connection to the motherboard from the front panel? (you can try the AC97 audio connection but the HD is the one for new motherboards). I'm not familiar with the display port, but I thought that was just video only, not like HDMI which is audio and video.

Do you get rear speaker audio output? If you don't have speakers, connect the headset to the rear GREEN speaker jack to check. If there is sound, its most likely either your connection from the front panel to the motherboard or the front panel. If there is no sound at the rear green speaker jack, check the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel. In the playback section, your "speakers" should be set as the default audio playback device.

But, it may be the front panel assembly is defective. I've had front panel problems with a couple of cases. I just built a new system, using a Gigabyte Z77X UD5H motherboard and a Corsair Carbide 500R case. There is a fan speed switch on the front panel of the case and it was not working, I had to contact Corsair and they sent a new front panel assembly which fixed the problem.

I have had Windows 8 since last November or December and only until recently I have had problems with the headphone jack. My laptop is Dual boot between Linux and Windows 8. Linux was put on after the Windows 8. I know there isn't anything physically wrong with the jack itself, because the headphone jack works perfectly fine in linux. I have tried to search the internet for solutions and I haven't found anything that is helpful, so I have come here.
My laptop is a Dell Inspiron N5110 that came with Windows 7. I had a few problems with drivers when I first put Windows 8 on the laptop. The display driver needed an update, but that was easily fixable. I don't think that this is a driver update problem because the headphone jack DID work, just recently has it stopped working.
I have tried to go into the device manager and search for driver updates, nothing. I am attaching link to a picture of my device manager incase it is helpful:

I have to hold it to one side for it to work right, is there a way to fix it?

A:headphone jack is not working right, I have to hold it to work

Sounds like the jack is busted. That happens if you use them a lot. Any moment on the plug puts a lot of stress on the guts of the jack and on the little solder pads that hold it on the board. You might be able to reflow the solder joints if you feel like taking the notebook that far apart. Personally I would just buy an inexpensive USB sound dongle, under $4 from China, and be really careful of any jacks connected to the notebook moving forward.

When you disconnect earphones are speakers ON again?
It would be interesting to know if the small switcher is working properly.

One more thing: are you sure earphones are connected properly?

Hi,

I have an Hp625 running Windows 7 Basic 32 bit - I can play music through my laptops built in speakers without any problems, but when I plug headphones (or external computer speakers) into the headphone jack no sound comes through them (and simultaneously the laptop speakers go mute). My computer is dual boot with ubuntu, and this problem appeared when I upgraded my Ubuntu version - still, I know that the jack works as it is working fine in Ubuntu, and Im sure the problem is fixable within windows!

I have tried for HOURS to fix this problem, and attempted everything obvious, plus read many threads on similar topics. Please help. My computer is using the IDT audio control panel, and according to windows everything us up to date and fine. BUT ITS NOT PLEASE HELP.

Best

Are you experiencing the problem in windows or in ubuntu? Have you installed the sound driver for ubuntu when you upgraded your version of ubuntu. Have you updated the sound driver for windows?

My headphone jack seems to be not working. The output sound is always too thin. I have tried both mono and stereo headsets and they all seem to be yielding the same result but always seem to work properly when connected to a different audio device. I have done a windows update and also have the dell update tool but nothing seems to be helping. Please help.

Hi, I'm John and I'm having major problems here. I have been using a laptop for awhile and it's been working great. I have been using my pair of headphones for my laptop and they've been working great as well. However, after a bit, I noticed that the audio was not working really good. I thought it was the headphones until I tried more pairs, they did the same thing. The problem is that when I'm listening to a song, one part of the audio I can hear clearly, but the rest (the majority of the song) is either faint or muffled.

This happens when I put the headphone jack all the way in the output. When I take it out some, the majority of the song audio I can hear clearly, but the other parts I can barely hear. This really annoys me, and it really bothers me. Is their any professional or half-assed way to fix this? My headphones were loud and clear before, but now (out of nowhere) I can't hear 100% of anything I listen to. Can I get any help? I'd appreciate it greatly! This happened randomly and I'd like some answers, I have good hopes in replies!

Have you tried messing around in there at all? It should recognize where your headphones are plugged in and give you options to control them. Are you plugging into the front panel or the rear panel for audio on the headphones? Have you tried both???

Hi,My Pavillion 15 notebook no longer delivers sound from the headphone jack.  When I plug headphones in, only the speakers play.  It has beatsaudio sound.  The headphone jack is not listed under playback devices, just Speaker /HP Realtek Hi definition audio.  Im pretty sure there was a device listed for headphones, but it is no longer there. Help.  Also, when I restart my notebook it emits a high pitched echo sound as it appears the mixer shows Speaker/HP and also stereo mix Realtek Hi Definition Audio volume settings move in tandem, but in order to eliminate the echo sound, I have to mute the Realtek Hi Definition Audio volume. Im confused.  Thanks

Since the Windows 10 anniversary update my headphone jack no longer works. It worked fine until then. Now, when I plug headphones in the system recognises the fact and a message pops up saying  'you have just plugged a device into the audio jack', but no sound comes through them. If I unplug them, the message is displayed that I have unplugged them. I have tried 3 different sets of earphones, so they are not the problem. Anyone else had this issue and come up with a solution?

I think the problem would be that you dropped it. does it have a case?
It think it is a problem with either the headphones themselves or the headphone jack. anyway, it's a hardware problem.
have you tried different headphones?

Hello!

I seem to be having an issue with the headphone jack in my new computer. I just assembled it five days ago (it's my first build and I am very proud). The specs on it are:

Antec 300 case, Gigabyte GA-M78G-DS3H, AMD Athlon 64 X2 5400+ Brisbane 2.8GHz, corsair 550w PSU, Seagate 7200.10 500gb, 2.0 GB of OCZ RAM, Pioneer 20x DVDRW.

This was a budget build so I am currently using the onboard sound and video, which is saving me money but unfortunately I do not have any headphone sound. I have tried swapping both the HDA and AC'97 plugs in the front panel with no luck. There appear to be 5 pins available for use after all the other front panel cords have been plugged in. I tried shifting down the plug down with both HDA and AC'97 but unfortunately that resulted in a lot of white noise and static coming out of my headphones, whereas I would hear absolutely nothing when the cord shifted down to the other four plugs (i can make a diagram for this situation in PS if it helps, it's really hard to explain). Right now I have the ac'97 cord in because I got so frustrated from swapping the cord multiple times that I didn't care to change it.

I've been reading a lot of help on the web and the only advice I have found is to turn off headphone jack detection in the Real Tek Audio Panel, and that hasn't helped either.

If anyone has encountered this problem before and knows how to fix it that would be greatly appreciative. I hope to buy an audigy... Read more

Hello,

I just purchased a new notebook, and I have a bit of a problem. When I plug headphones into the side headphone jack, the sound quality is downright terrible. Very shortly I noticed that it didn't sound as good/decent as my older notebook.

The speakers seem to sound fine, well you know - as good as laptops can sound.

Right now I have two notebooks side by side:
a friends Samsung Series 3 (NP300E5C), with Windows 8 (upgraded from W7) / Microsoft High Definition audio
my Toshiba L50 Windows 8 / Realteck High Definition

I dont have my older notebook anymore, but I do remember it sounding better. Comparing this Toshiba to the Samsung (both sitting on the desk side-by-side), the Toshiba sounds a little better through the speakers, but there is no comparison with the headphone - The Samsung is pretty decent while the Toshiba makes me cry.

Now granted, I'm not expecting a symphony, but if I cant solve this I'm going to have to sell the Toshiba.

I've tried uninstalling Realtek, but I couldn't get the sound to work.
Re-installing Realtek solved nothing

One thing I noticed, there is no 'headphone' icon in the device manager (Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Sound / or simply right click the audio icon in the taskbar). Are the headphones not high definition or something?

Recently, while playing unreal tournament, I realize there was no sound coming out of the speaker once I unplugged my headphones. I restarted thinking that it would fix the problem, but that didn't help, so I decided to uninstall and reinstall the sound driver from realtek, no good either. Finally I deicided to reformat my computer using the recovery partition. Reassuring myself that this will definitely solve the problem I was shock and confuse as to why no sound came out of the speaker after the recovery. After going to the Realtek sound control panel I realize that the computer thinks or detected that a headphone was plugged in when clearly it wasn't. The sound does work with the headphone in and I am sure the speaker is not damaged because the POST sound, "boommmmm", comes during bootup. I really don't understand what is going on, and I already reformatted the harddrive 2 times.

I have read that the problem can be temporarily solve by replacing the motherboard, but after about a week or two, the same problem will arise. I have also read that other brands including HP, DELL and Sony has similar problems.

I can live without the speakers but I am not sure if further problems will persist with this laptop, since its only been month that I have purchased it.

Thanks for many reply/help.

A:Asus G1S speakers not working (stuck in headphone jack mode)

Just some real quick ideas

Speakers plugged into power outlet and on
Speakers plugged into back jack securely
(actually if you heard the startup booom sound, then they must be)

Sound volume up on speaker
Sound volume up on Windows
Sound volume up in the game that you are using
(That might be it)

If you play a song (through Windows media player) can you hear it ?
If so this must be an in game setting (ie mute sound) Please check all settings in the game.

The other day a speaker cord was yanked out of my computer and dismembered the head phone port. When headphones or speakers are plugged in they do not work. The main issue here is when nothing is plugged into the port my laptop speakers do not work. Its as if my computer thinks something is plugged in and has turned off its own speakers.
Im poor and lack funds to pay someone for help. What can I try to fix this?

A:problems with headphone port and non working speakers Dell Inspiron

The headphone jack will have to be repaired (if possible - in many cases it will require a new motherboard). There is a contact in the jack (a "normal through") contact that the sound chip senses. Maybe a computer tech can rewire around that so the speakers always work or if you are lucky replace the jack. Otherwise you are looking at a new motherboard. You will have to weigh having sound against the $$ it will potentially take to fix it.

This happened when I first upgraded from Vista to 7 32-bit last year, when the front output jack stopped working, and I ended up getting an extension cord to travel from the rear port.

Now I've upgraded again, and none of them work. I've got up to date Realtek codecs.

Any help is appreciated. I know I need to give more information, but it's 3am here and I can't for the life of me think what it should be.

Thanks in advance

HEY, WE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM!
I tried everything, something isn't right here all of them don't fix my problem. I tried to restore to early time before I update it, it didn't work. I tried to follow every single instruction from the basic setting, still doesn't work. THIS IS WINDOWS FAULT, their market share is going down and they do little trick to make money. I tried to contact support and it says, "charge may apply." ONLY BECAUSE I HAVE OEM in my ****ing product ID.

My hardware is TOTALLY FINE, I believe yours too. WHY I know mine is fine? BECAUSE I USE UBUNTU ON THE SAME DEVICE! Open Source is your friend, you can trust it.

Hello Eight Forums.

My trouble is the audio output through headphones - background is louder than foreground (especially in music - I often cannot hear the vocals at all; movies however are mostly fine, for reasons unknown to me; but generally, the sound is always different in some way).

I only have one pair of headphones to test it with. However these always worked fine with previous machines, and still do work fine with my iPhone 4. Although they are surely not the case, I cannot with confidence say that if it were a loudspeaker instead things wouldn't have been different.

So this is either a software or a hardware issue.

Software

My computer (details at the bottom) came with a SoundBlaster X-Fi MB3 equalizer program and RealTek High Def Audio drivers. I've uninstalled SoundBlaster hoping it would fix the issue (I didn't need an extra program like that anyway) but alas to no avail. Updating the RealTek drivers did no good still.

The only thing I haven't touched is the ghostly NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (can it be the source of my trouble?) - I only first noticed it now when copy/pasting the Belarc data. I'll try and find out about it in the meanwhile.

Hardware

I wonder if it perhaps has something to do with my audio jack (laptop's brand new, but you can never know). I have what appears to be mic, headphone, S/PDIF and line in jacks... Is there a way to use the microphone or the line-in to test the headphones? To see if the headphone out is broken.

Any help appreci... Read more

A:Messed up headphone audio; want to check headphone jack

First, the "My System Specs" is where you fill in what you have.

Does the internal speakers on the laptop work? Is the audio OK on the internal speakers?

The SoundBlaster program(s) is a software enhancement to the basic audio chip (ReaklTek). Many PC's now come with some type of enhancement such as the SoundBlaster or in the case of HP PC's its "Beats Audio".

I have Lenovo 3000 Y410 laptop having Windows 7 Home Premium installed on it. Realtek HD Audio latest driver is installed. But from the last 3 days, when I connect headphone through laptop, following things happen : -
1) Headphone connected popup doesn't show up.
2) Mic of Headphone connected pop shows up.

3) When I play video, sound coming from both headphone & laptop speakers.
4) When I mute sound by muting sound icon in taskbar, sound then comes only from headphone.

What I have tried?
1) Installed new Realtek HD Audio Manager.
2) Installed OS again.
3) Tried to change settings in Realtek Hd Audio Manager. But Nothing changes.

When I input headphone & mic jacks into laptop, & then check Realtek HD Audio Manager. The following image shows this : -

The green in realtek hd audio manager is for headphone & red is for mic. In the image, it is shown that headphone not connected & mic connected. But even headphone not connected shows up, sound coming form headphone.

I want to get sound from only headphone when headphone is connected. Is this a hardware problem ?

Please help....

A:Sound coming from both headphone & speaker but headphone is not detect

My Realtek HD Audio Manager has more options than yours.

Also, I notice you only have the microphone in the Recording Section of the Sound Panel. RIGHT click in an empty space in that Panel and then LEFT click Show Disabled and Disconnected devices. The Stereo Mix should be shown and you can enable that and make it the default Recording device.

Where did you get the RealTek driver that you installed? If you are not using the Lenovo supplied sound driver, get that and install it as a first step. I have a Lenovo Laptop and it has Stereo Mix and other functions. I haven't looked at the RealTek HD manager so I'm not sure what all it shows.

thought here; have you checked all the settings to make sure the proper headphone/speaker settings are checked/unchecked?. i would consider updating to that newest driver. If it does not solve the issue you should be able to restore it back to the previous restore point which should undo the driver update.

Hey everybody,

I bought the headsets. They've got a microphone as well.

Now I've got three ports: pink, green and this colorless one.

My regular speakers go in the colorless port, while the headphone microphone goes into the pink one and the headset speakers.

The thing is speakers on the headsets, as well as my regular speakers worked, but the microphone on the headsets didn't, so I tried to fix the problem, and eventually did, that is the microphone works, but the speakers on the headsets don't !

However, by inserting the headphone's speakers into the colorless port (where my regular speakers are put), in that case the headphones work, but why don't they work when I pluck them in the green port? Previously, when the microphone didn't work, the headphone's speakers worked, but after I 'fixed' the microphone problem, the headphone's speakers stopped working.

Please help me, as this is of great importance, and I've been trying to fix this problem for several hours.

A:Headphone mic didn't work - now it does, but headphone speakers don't

That colorless port might be for input devices, that does not include headphones. I had the same problem with my audigy 2 zs, had to plug my headset into a speaker port, its really the only way to get them to work, unless you have front panel ports for headphones.

I have an EVGA 750i SLI FTW motherboard and recently (after moving the motherboard to a different case) there is no sound coming from the rear ports. When I connect headphones to the front, the sound works. Is it a sound card problem (I'm using the integrated card)? It's not a big deal, I can just pick up one for 20-30 bucks but I just want to know the problem beforehand. Thanks in advance.

A:Sound issues: back ports not working, front (headphone) port works

the front ports are most-likely canceling out the rear ports, unless you've dealt with a similar setup that worked fine.
