You can go to Control Panel--> Network and Sharing Center --> and then click on "Change Adapter settings" on the left side. Once here you can then right click your Wireless Adapter and select DISABLE. Be kind and Mark as Answer if I helped.

When I use Fn-F8 to turn off WiFi, the WiFi Function Button at the top of the keybaord doesn't seem to be able to turn it back on, even though it claims to. The only thing that turns it back on is to use Fn-F8 again. Is this designed-for behaviour, or is it a bug (not that it matters, but curious).

For info, the Function Buttons are shown along the top at http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Keyboar...zy/td-p/267999. It is also shown in http://web1.toshiba.ca/support/isg/m...lishManual.pdf, page 2-8, enumerated item #14.

Hi guys, I have a strange problem with one Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E145 notebooks. At first I was not able to start in windows the wireless but after multiple uninstall/install/update of the drivers I managed to do it. Still Windows shows WiFi on but in the same time off and I can't see any WLAN networks. The windows diagnose of the WLAN adapter shows - wireless capability is turned off The Lenovo Diagnostic Tools shows - Warning Hardware state is off I've checked BIOS, check the settings of the card and I don't have a hardware switch on the notebook. Is there any way that I could "reset" this lock or enable it somehow? Thanks in advance I forgot to add that the notebook is with Windows 10 64bit and there are not much apps and drivers for it.

I found the solution. I removed the BIOS battery for 5 Min and after this everything worked. Still if someone knows another approach it will be better.

And there is no driver available on HP site for windows 10. Please suggest me some way to start the wifi working.

Hi,

I have an Acer TravelMate 370 and i'm having problem in using its wireless connectivity function. The hardware is okay same as the driver. It is just that if I try to turn on the launch key for wireless LAN the LED doesn't lit up. And even if i turned on the wireless radio from windows network driver nothing happens. I still can't connect to our wireless network. And it always says that I should turn on the device before I could use it. I really need your help on this. Thanks a lot

A:Couldn't turn on Acer travelmate 370 wifi connectivity button

first off ring up acer tech support and see if they can fix it, maybe a defective wifi module (im assuming its inbuilt)
does it pick up any signal at all? maybe try another wifi network; or is it just dead? can you dig around bios and see if there's any thing to enable regarding the wifi, also same thing inside device manager

HI Michael, If you go to the Control Panel, and select the "Network and Sharing Center" item, in the bottom left of the screen there should be a "HP Wireless Assistant" link in the "See Also" section. Click that, and it will allow you to enable the wireless adaptor. That may achieve what you need to do. Regards,John

Hi - how do I find out if my PC can connect to wifi rather than with a cable?  And if it cannot now, can I download an update to enable wifi?  MY PC model is p6-2050ix Thanks

A:does my PC have WiFi capability?

That is a desktop and likely does not have the hardware for wireless. Most people use the wired ethernet port on desktops. You can't just download software to make it work you need the hardware. 2 options: 1. a pci wireless network adapter and antenna which would require opening the case and inserting a card into an open expansion slot; or, 2. a usb wireless dongle. The first option would likely perform a bit better but they make good, cheap wireless usb dongles and all you have to do is pop it in a usb port, maybe (not certainly needed) install a driver and you have wifi. Post back and let us know what you want to do.

Hi Bob and welcome to Eightforums.

Since you have a laptop you are, when it comes to replacing hardware, very restricted to options the laptop manufacteror is allowing. Laptop hardware is often rebranded. That means that 'ordinary' hardware will mostlikely not work.

I'd advise you to ask Asus this question. They made the product, so they know what you can and cannot do with the laptop.

Goodluck.

Forgive me for not knowing the proper terms, but am newer to the Wifi game - have only had it since February.

Our Gateway Laptop has always recognized our Wifi signal until a week ago. Now whenever it goes to sleep or is shut off it does not recognize that we have internet. Instead of the 5 bar icon showing; it has a red x. The only way I can get it to connect is to reboot. I have done a system refresh and also tried to update the driver (Realtek RTL8188CE) but it says I have the most up-to-date version.

This is extremely frustrating! Does anyone have any ideas?

A:Wifi Capability being turned off

"Troubleshoot problems" (right click the network icon) can fix the majority of issues without needing a reboot. It will turn off the adapter and re-initialize the drivers.

On portable devices the wireless adapter can be manually turned off for most devices. It is usually a Fn key that is used to turn wireless off.
Wireless can be disabled and enabled, within the list of network connections (Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections).
I know it is frustrating and I don't have a proper solution for you. Especially when you say you have updated your drivers. But the above may help in keeping you from having to completely restart your machine.

One thought does come to mind though. That is checking to see if the wireless is set to turn off when the PC goes in sleep mode. Keeping wireless active could keep it from bugging out.

Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Change Plan Settings
Change advanced power settings
Wireless Adapter settings > Power Savings Mode > Setting:
There is a choice between (Performance, Low, Med, and Max)
My desktop never sleeps and wireless is set to performance. So I have no experience with the setting, I just know it is there.

The wireless icon on my HP Envy 17" laptop keeps disappearing.  I am referring to the icon that is typically at the bottom right of the task bar.  When this occurs, I always check the Network & Internet settings - the Wi-Fi option is completely gone.  At times, the Wi-Fi will be available and connects without an issue.  Then I may leave the computer setting for a while and when I come back the Wi-Fi option is completely gone, as if the computer isn't built to accept Wi-Fi. This has been an ongoing issue since just after I purchased the laptop (purchased in June 2015).  I tried to resolve this with HP but everything they checked didn't seem to have any issues.  I know they ran a hard drive check and that turned out fine.  I've researched a lot of forums and decided to try a new hard drive.  I replaced the hard drive about a month ago.  After that, until a few days ago, the Wi-Fi worked perfectly.  Now it has started disappearing again.  I've seen a lot of people have had this issue, but has anyone actually gotten a resolution?  At this point I am way past regretting the decision to purchase an HP laptop.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

The only person I know of that has one is my cousin who lives a few doors down. I cant be sure that it isnt him, but im 95% sure. recently i was having major computer issues on my desktop, i did a full restore to factory settings and after doing a few windows updates i found that my network adaptor was not finding any signals. it does not show up in the change adaptor settings page or in the device manager page. when i troubleshoot my internet connection it says an ethernet cable is not properly plugged in. I have a desktop computer but it definately has a wireless network card. i used to get windows updates for it and it just stopped working one day. when i look in the BIOS the only option related to booting a network card is B03 D00 Yukon PXE. no matter when i boot it i still dont get wireless signals. when i go into the boot menu and try to boot this device it says " PXE E61: media test failure please check cable" i have opened the tower and the card is securely in its slot. i thought i would workaround by getting a usb wifi card. I installed it and connected to the internet and it alternated between having a connection to the internet and being connected to the network but not the internet. even when it is connected to the internet i cannot reach any web pages. my dropbox desktop files update very slowly (7kb/s). when i am connected with the usb card the network stops working for everyone else in the house. they can no longer reach web pages or continue downloads. please help.

Ad-Hoc requires that you restart the session each time.

Connectify pro has an auto start option that does this but it's a paid version, connectify lite is free but I'm not sure if has auto start.

You click the button, and the wifi comes on briefly (about 1 second) then turns off. I have also tried FN + FN2, and the same happens.

Hello lovely people. I`ve had my 7535g for 9 months now and after 2 dodgy months at the start all is pretty good.

However, one of the reasons for my getting one was that it came with an upgrade to windows 7. Unfortunately it`s the 32 bit home edition. So not only do I have a reduced version but my system is 64 bit.

Having already suffered and bested the upgrade to 7 before I feel ready for this.

There are a couple of issues that I`ll have tho so I`ve come here for some advice.

The 7535g is pretty standard apart from a user programmable button above the kboard and 3 user buttons to the left.

I found the software to install the programmable one, Launch Manager.
But the other 3, for wifi, bluetooth and backup, were installed by the original acer 32bit upgrade kit. These are the ones I need help with. When used they display a cool icon to notify you that they`ve been activated.

I`ve tried to get help from Acer but all they`ll offer is a set of disks for ?50 which contain the original vista setup and no info.

So is there anybody who`s managed to do it out there?

Here`s hoping, Stoo

A:Wifi button install

You are entitled to use either 32- or 64-bit kernel version with your Win7 license, no matter what Acer says. You only need to find a 64 bit installer for your version to clean reinstall from booted installer. It will activate with the Product Key on COA sticker which sometimes requires a robocall to MS to sort actual key from batch on sticker.

If you want to test 64 bit on that machine, you can shrink Win7 to install 64 bit from booted DVD to new partition. It will configure a Dual Boot so you can compare 64 bit up to 120 days: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...-120-days.html

I believe the only way to keep factory utilities like you want is to do an in-place Upgrade from Vista to see if it will carry over. If you have a Recovery partition on the computer you could try running it after backing up a Win7 SYstem image externally to see if an in-place Upgrade from Vista will carry over the utilities as it should. But an in-place upgrade is an inferior install compared to a clean install which can also be done with the Acer Upgrade DVD as we did here on two Acer desktops. And you'd be limited to 32 bit which is all Acer offers apparently for your model.

If you find that the factory utilities cannot be carried over in-place by upgrading to Win7, then I would make the Recovery Disks off the Vista factory install and wipe the entire HD to clean reinstall Win7 in whichever bit kernel you decide upon. WE can help you with that here as it is a speciality.

Do you have a switch on the side of your laptop to switch on and off besides the wifi button sometimes you can accidently hit the switch on the side and no mater what you do it won't work

could be wrong but i know people who had that issue come to find out the switch on the laptop wasnt turned on

Never mind the switch i went to the HP site and here is the fix for your issue http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop...dx/td-p/147638

you might have to go into your bios and reset everything to defualt and then it should work

Hi.
I have an issue with my Network Settings.  As I try to connect to the internet on the wifi in our marina, the WiFi button turns itself off and I get the message "WiFi Turned Off".  I didn't turn it off.  I go to network settings and turn it on (slider button).  It immediately flicks itself off again.  I didn't do it, it just does it itself.  This really, really, really irritates me.  If I wanted something that made decisions for me I'd buy an Apple.  I don't want it to do anything except what I want it to do.  Using a Realtek adapter.  Had a look at the device settings and though there seem to be 4 copies of this in there, none of them are grayed out and all report that they are working.  Why I need 4 is beyond me, though.

Anyone got any ideas?

If I have a good internet connection, this does not happen.  However, most marinas have garbage internet and this is where it happens.

A:Wifi button keeps turning off by itself

My guess is you have a physical switch for wifi on your laptop that is turned off, which is forcing the software in the laptop to turn off. Also make sure you laptop has power plugged in or atleast is fully charged. If it only happens on battery power, I can show later how to disable power options which might be forcing the wireless to turn off to conserve power. What model laptop do you have?

Does anyone have any suggestions of something i could do to get my wifi to work.

A:Wifi button not working

The eMachines E727 laptop appears to come with Windows 7 Starter Edition 32-bit.
Is that the correct Windows version yours is running?

Go into the Device Manager, then expand the Network Adapters heading.
What's the exact description of the devices listed there?
Double-click each one to open its properties window.
Does it show each one as working properly?

If that laptop's built-in wireless device has stopped working for some reason, the easiest solution is to install an external USB wireless adapter.

A:Wifi WLAN button not working

First check the status of your adapter in Device Manager, then if that is OK go to Control Panel, Network and Sharing Center. In the upper left corned, click on Change Adapter Settings, then look at the status of the adapter; right click it and see if the option to Enable is available.

You're very welcome. The driver I posted should have worked as you can see from this partial copy and paste of the driver setup information file which shows driver support for the hardware ID you posted, so I don't know why the driver didn't install. ;;****************************************************************************;; IDs for X64;;**************************************************************************** %HP8188ce.DeviceDesc% = RTL8192Ce.ndi, PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8176&SUBSYS_1629103C So...see if this works... Go to the device manager and click on the Controller di rete. Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver. Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file. That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp57049. Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and see if the driver installs that way.

Have updated to 8 from XP. Can't use wifi. I can connect but wifi says off and I cannot work out to turn on. I have a generic lap top that never missed a beat under XP. With XP the driver was, per the cd, wireless networking solution by msi. When I check after upgrade it now says ralink technology11g mini pci. Like a lot of people, I have had problems with updates failing, whoever doing them in lots of 5 I have got them through, except 1 from ralink 11g minipci. Greatly appreciate if someone could tell me how to turn wifi on, or how to rerun failed update for driver. I am not super cluey however can handle all the basics. Bob.

A:Wifi says off, how to turn on.

Maybe try this:
Click start and type "ncpa.cpl" and hit enter (or you can go to My Documents and type in the address bar "ncpa.cpl" and hit enter) then right click on Wi-Fi or your internet and click enable. Do not know if this will work but you can give it a try.

After updating to windows 10 I had a few minor problems with the start menu and ran a fix tool to get this working. This tool seems to have broken the sound and wifi (it now won't turn on and cannot detect any sound devices). I tried to do a restore but I misread and seemed to select an option which deleted all the installed software and this has now removed all the initial software from Toshiba.

As such I have a fairly major problem... I could just restore my factory setting but I am not keen to do so and I have been very lax with backups of all but the most important files. Is there anywhere to download the original toshiba software so I can restore all this functionality?

I have a PC desktop computer and I thought it was time to upgrade from Win 8 to Win 10

However, after I upgraded it, I notice there is NO wifi icon at all (where I can type the username and password) and I even searched in the Network And Internet section area...

In contrast, I also have the exact same Win 10 computer in my other room and its showing the Wifi icon and its connected with no problem. (To be specific I am using the Apple computer but I use it as in Win10 bootcamp)

Obviously my PC has something wrong to it

I checked in the System and there is this yellow exclaimation mark under for
"pci simple communications controller driver"
and
"unknown devices"

For my Network Adaptor, according to what I see in Device Manager, it is "Realtek PCIe GEB Family Controller"

So I am not sure if they related to the problem and I can't update them either since I don't have the internet

Can you please help for my wifi icon solution? At least to appear so I can type in the username and password?

Thank you

Pierre73 I read your post about problems with your HP DV6 and Win10 and wanted to help. First, see if anything in this troubleshooting post helps: HP PCs - Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet If that does not work, then read on ...I also upgraded an HP DV6 laptop to Win10 and had serious problems.  Since there are no Win10 drivers for the DV6 line, I though I was stuck.  But I did some experimenting and found out the real problem is that the Win10 Upgrade tool does a lousy job of detecting the hardware on the old Win7 PCs and find the right drivers from MS for that.  What worked was doing a clean-install from Win10 media.  That resulted in all the devices working!Since you already have Win10 installed, let's try an approach known as a Repair-Install.  This is the least destructive of all the Windows recovery functions and rewrites the Windows system files, including the drivers, leaving your data, settings, and applications intact. To do this, you will need to use the link to download Win10 installation media and either burn a DVD or create a USB stick: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win10Note that when you go do download and build install media, the tool defaults to matching what is already installed on your PC (as in, Home for Home, 64-bit for 64-b0t).  While you CAN change these settings, do NOT.  If you do, the resulting media will be different and will force ... Hello everyone,  Since i got my Lenovo Y50, i have been having an issue rarely and i thought it would be better to try and fix it.I have had it on Windows 8.1 and now on Windows 10 also, when i start my computer, WiFi works flawlessly, but if I try and switch to another network on open the WiFi networks tab on the taskbar, it might happen that it kinda "freezes", meaning that it shows either that WiFi networks availalbe or not available but when i click on it nothing happens. I mean it doesnt pop up the select WiFi network window. And also if during this time i try to go to Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Settings it doesn't open it. If i plug a LAN cable in it the internet works fine but the WiFi button still stays the same. Doesn't even change to the cable connection one. Also this sometimes happens when wifi is working but i notice that the icon changed to the above mentioned (WiFi networks availalbe or not available) and when i try clicking on the wifi button nothing pops up, meaning again i cant change the WiFi on disconnect. Funny thing is that every single time this happens, a restart fixes it. Every time so it really doesn't make sense to me and it baffles me that this can happen. I tried reinstalling drivers, looking for stable ones, etc. nothing helps. I will provide a picture with my device manager Network Adapters tab, i hope it helps. Any oppinions are welcome.

Hello all. So a day ago my Ethernet wasn't working and I couldn't rely on a wired connection, so I looked at some fourms and was told to remove the Broadcom NetLink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet driver, which is what I did, and I restarted the computer. When I turned it back on I reinstalled the driver and the ethernet worked. But the WIFI did not.  So I looked up how to fix it and attempted to reinstall the driver and I also added another driver in the process. None worked and I've tried nearly everything to fix it. Installing a new driver, reinstalling, flushing dns, disabling and enabling the service, even reinstalling the BIOS, and tons of other stuff but I've had no luck so far. The wierd thing that happens is the WIFI option is greyed out but the Network Connections say it's enabled.  Also, in Device Manager when I go to the Broadcom NetLink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet driver it says "Device Not Started" Any idea what's causing the immense amount of problems I'm dealing with on my computer?   P.S. I won't be able to post for a few days, because of a trip and I cannot bring my computer because it's usless if I don't have ethernet. So please hurry because I will be leaving tommorow. On 8/8/16 Thanks, Brad

Hi
In HP laptop with Windows 7, there is a touch buttons to enable and disable audio and wifi. Now they are disable and touch buttons doestno work. No missing drivers in device manager, but they dont works because touch is broken.

Is there any way to active wifi and sound without these buttons?

A:Wifi and audio button broken. How to active them?

Did you just upgrade/install Windows 7 on that PC? If yes, its likely that the default drivers that windows installed lack the functionality to use those buttons. My Acer Aspire 5920 was like that initially. Installing the Acer supplied driver got everything working. Go the HP site and have a look at the driver downloads offered for you model. Start with the sound and WIFI drivers. If that doesn't work look for any utilities offered for control of media keys or something similar. My audio/media keys were actually part of my touch pad and didn't work until I installed Acers custom synaptics driver.

A:How do I turn on WIFI without the keyboard.

Some wireless adapters allow you to enable/disable radio in their advanced settings but I am not sure if this would work for a wireless adapter disabled via the keyboard.

You could disable the wireless adapter you have and purchase a USB wireless adapter like this.

I've got a Lenovo ideapad Z470 laptop and the WiFi modem/card in it won't turn on.

The laptop has a physical switch on the front which turns on/off the wifi.

If I turn the switch to on, an image appears on the screen saying its been turned on and vice versa if I switch it off.

However, Windows isn't showing it as being available in the system tray.

I can connect via ethernet and have tried using the Wifi to connect to two different networks and it looks like the card is the problem.

If you look at my previous posts, they have been about my laptop not connecting to the internet. Perhaps this is why?

Can they be fixed or replaced?

I was wondering whether it is possible at all to purchase any hardware/software that would allow me to convert the wired connection to wifi? Bearing in mind I only have access to the jack on the wall. I'm not sure if it is even possible but it's just annoying that I have to pay per device.

My Laptop's been fine for 2 years...when I'm on battery, I switch the wifi off via the switch on the laptop. However, all of a sudden, the Wifi won't turn on again! The switch isn't broken (I've moved it back and forth), and I've tried the software switch ( Fn+F5), but that doesn't work either! I dual boot Windows 8+7, and neither OS has wifi on. I've also tried uninstalling drivers/disabling the adapter via Device Manager, but no luck! I also went into the BIOS, disabled the adapter through there, launched Windows 8, then rebooted and reenabed the Wifi, and that didn't work either =(.EDIT: Windows troubleshooting says "Turn on wireless capability: Use the switch on the front or side of the comptuer, or function keys if available, to enable wireless capability on this computer".My warranty ended over a year ago!Paying to send in the laptop for this would suck. I have Win 7 Home Premium.

Is there an easy way to disable my wireless connection so that (a) it does not enable itself after a reboot, and (b) I don't need to implement the complete process to re-enable the wireless?

Under normal circumstances, the re-enable after a reboot is fine. I can disconnect WiFi from the system tray, and it reconnects after reboot.

But sometimes, I might want wireless to remain disabled after reboot. For example, if I'm doing a database restore, and the database starts synching after a reboot (such as Evernote), it could cause problems :-)

At the moment, I simply switch off the router until the database restore is complete.

A:How to turn off WiFi so that it does not re-enable after reboot?

Just don`t let it connect.

Doesn`t the laptop have an on off switch for wireless ? Most laptops do.

Just don`t let it connect.

Doesn`t the laptop have an on off switch for wireless ? Most laptops do.

I recently turned off my wifi connection just to do an install. I simply pressed func+F12 and i shut it off until my installation was complete. Now when i hit F12 again to turn it back on the little light on the key turns back on indicating that my wifi connection is back on but when i try to connect in my network connections menu it says wifi is off. I have a Samsung chronos series 7 with windows 8 as my OS. I tried everything as far as trouble shooting goes and I also did a system restore hoping it would reset my network card but I still get know results. Does anybody have any idea what might be going wrong? I really need to get my internet working again. Oh yeah i tried the Ethernet connection and that works but i need my laptop for class and other events where I'm mobile , plus i got an assignment due this morning and this is really putting a monkey wrench in my plans. So somebody please help.

Thank You

P.S.
Maybe I didn't set my restore point far back enough and also the one suggestion I didn't try was refreshing my computer but i didn't want to have to reinstall every freakin application I have loaded on my laptop.

Have you checked to set what wireless adapter is set as default since you've turned wifi off? Since you turned it off, the default setting may have changed which could explain your not being able to connect to your wifi.

My wife has a toshiba Satellite L645D-S4040 running Windows 7 64 bit. This morning she ran an update and has since lost wifi and Fn F8 does not work. Went to Toshiba site and downloaded and ran the TVAP. It got rid of the Microsoft virtual wifi miniport adapter and we still can't get the wifi to enable. Unfortunately she does not remember which update it was that she performed. Help.

Update: My wife remembered that the only change she made was to install Secunia PSI from this sites download section.

A:WiFi turned off after update, and won't turn on again

Does FN+F8 key work after installing TVAP?

Did you try a system restore?

my question is when i try to connect via WIFI it's say it's turn off.. how to turn on now?

A:how to turn on Wifi in sony Vaio

Do you have a physical button or switch on your laptop which you can push? Almost all laptops have this feature so that you can turn the wireless off.

If not then you should be able to force it by going to Start> Control panel

Once opened click on 'Network and Internet'

Afterwards, click on 'Networking and Sharing Center'

From here you want to click on 'Change Adapter Settings'

Now, right click on the wireless adapter listed and click on 'Enable'. This should enable your wi-fi card

Hope This Helps,
Josh!
