Is there a lighter AC adapter for T460P?

Q: Is there a lighter AC adapter for T460P?

Greetings, I just started using my new T460p?as a replacement of my X230. One thing is the 135W ac adapter for T460P is really bulky to carry around, compared to the 65W for X230. So I am wondering is there a slim version for 135W. I quickly checked online and find that there is ultra slim 90W one. Is it possible to use 90W ac adapter for T460P? w/o battery mounted. Thanks for advice, G

Hello again,

I have seen these adapters that you can plug into a cigarette lighter outlet in a car, and use as the power source for a laptop. I tried before with one, but am not sure if it was the right wattage or what not.

My question is, where will I find on my laptop to see what type I will need? What number am I looking for to match up with the adapter? Also, are these adapters good?

Thanks.

Hi

I have old laptop, Fujitsu Siemens v5535 with the following specs:
CPU celeron 2.0 GHz
2g ram
sis mirage 3 - up to 312m
120g hard drive

I've tried win 7 but was heavy with antivirus, and had to run it with the minimum graphic setting, so looked like win 95

I switched to win xp, but it has become a primitive OS, moreover I didn't notice that much difference in speed and performance.

Only Vista left, and sp2 is a good OS according to most reviews, but I need to know if it's pretty lighter than win 7, or almost the same ?

By the way I tried many Linux distros, but none worked well enough due to graphic card issue, SIS generally is not supported in Linux.

thx a lot

Hello all, wish all of you have a nice day.
My story: I need a virtualization software to do my Lab at school. I am using VMware WorkStation 11. I installed 4 Virtual Machines on my computer (Intel Core i5 4200U, 8GB RAM DDR3L). I feel some lag on my system when I turn on 4 VMs at the same time (no additional software running except Foxit Reader). If I install 4 VMs by using VirtualBox 4.3, Does my computer runs lighter on resource usage? Do I need to change to VirtualBox?
Thanks all!

A:Which is lighter? WMware 11 or VirtualBox 4.3

Well it depends to the RAM assigned consumption configuration (Virtualbox), if its 1GB for each VM then that should not cause any slowdowns. My laptop specification is AMD A8 with 8GB DDR3 I can manage to run two VM (assigned 2GB) with no slowdowns.

I have a license for both and am thinking to install Windows 8.1 again on my laptop.

Windows 7 Pro did offer me higher benchmarks, but I don't know, the laptop felt snappier in Windows 8.1 for some reason.

My laptop originally came with Windows 8.1 single Language

now before I format, shall I install Windows 8.1 Single Language that came with my laptop or my own copy of 8.1 Pro?

Is Pro heavier by any chance because it has Bitlocker, the ability to connect to a Workgroup, Hard Drive encryption, etc?

If the performance is the same then I'll install 8.1 Pro but if you think Single Language is lighter, then I'll stick to that

please advice

A:Which is lighter, Windows 8.1 Single Language or Pro?

Personally, I don't see a difference between the two (both are Pro versions) except that you have only one language on the OEM version.

There are three versions of Windows 8/8.1; Core (mostly for consumers); Pro and Enterprise (mostly for multiple licenses). You will find comparisons between these versions here: Compare Windows 8.1 Editions

If your system specs are correct, the OEM OS on your laptop is already Windows 8.1 Pro. No need to format and reinstall unless you have a specific need for multiple languages. Further, I'm pretty sure that, since the product key to Windows 8.1 Pro is embedded in your BIOS/UEFI, reinstallation will pick up that key for you and hopefully, you won't have to use your other key.

Also, although you didn't ask the question, if you format/write over your OEM version of Windows and you use the key with your multiple language version of Windows 8.1, you cannot use the OEM version from the laptop on another computer; thus, one license lost. My advice would be that unless you have a need for multiple languages, leave things as they are.

Hi,

A few weeks ago, having been given the advice to use canned air for cleaning the insides of my box I went to the computer hardware store I frequent and bought one. Heck of an expense, but nothing's too good for my machine. When I was using it, I noticed the can became very cold after a while. Also, some sort of sedimentation appeared on the sensitive parts I had been cleaning. It was moist - like frost - when I touched it. I looked at the can. It claimed to contain a butane-propane mixture..... now, it DID say it was intended for cleaning sensitive electronic parts, but I wonder.... any surface this mixture hit would get very cold, and I think condensation may have formed on it later - water.... plus, while it was removing most of the accumulated dust, some was made to stick to the surface, mixed with that sediment, which would then dry up pretty quickly leaving a thin, caked film of dust behind.

After cleaning I had problems with my video card - the screen looked jumbled during loading, then it went blank, the little LED light on it indicating there was no signal. I took the card out of its socket and put it back in again, waited awhile (thinking the scary thought it may need to dry up a bit), then turned the computer on, and everything was OK.

So, I'm a little worried (corrosion?) and unsure of whether I used the right product for cleaning the dust out of my computer. I know you can also get cans of simple, compressed air.... why use a lighter-fluid mixture... Read more

Hi all !

Just want to share a successful reflow using cigarette lighter. I used to do oven reflows before, it gave my old geForce 9700 almost 3 years of life extension.. until it had its fourth reflow, of which I mis-set the oven temp and it went down in a blaze of glory.

Maybe this will help those with limited resources like me; after all, a heat gun is not that cheap, and if you're not an electronics technician, it's not a tool that you use daily.

Recently I've been having random atikmpag.sys 0x116 and/or 0x119 BSOD's in my laptop, a (bought used) Compaq CQ42-175TX (Core i5 430M, ATi Mobility Radeon HD5430). Culprit seems to be the VRAM (lots of errors during Video Memory Test [HOME PAGE OF MISHA CHERKES]).

It started only rarely, 1-2x per month, but in the last weeks it became almost everyday. So I decided to do a reflow. After a few google searches, I stumble upon a tip (sorry forgot the original link, but really, BIG thanks to that tip's original poster) which said to test your reflowing method with a solder wire first.

So I went and tried first using hair dryer. Turns out hair dryer is a no-no. The solder simply won't melt. Or maybe it's because it was only a 1000W hair dryer, I don't know though.

So I googled again, and I found several people mentioning cigarette lighters. So I tried one to a solder wire, ... turns out it melts in a mere 2 seconds (yellow part of the flame) and 3 seconds (blue part of the flame) !

So after much contemplating (I'm a poor student,... Read more

Hi... I am looking to get the T460p because it's lightweight, has 2K screen and Quadcore.  However I've still wondering if I should get the SSD and RAM from Lenovo.  Been reading a bit about the different types of SSD and RAM and also the type of SSDs and RAMs Lenovo uses for the T460p.  It's only making me more confused.  The laptop is for heavy Photoshopping and video editing. The three scenarios would be, do I get:  512gb Sata SSD (US$180) and 32gb 2133 (US$195) from Lenovo  or256gb PCIe SSD (US$115) and 32gb 2133 from Lenovo orCheapest 1T Sata SSD (US$200) and 32gb 2400 (US$150) from Amazon? I'm confused because the 512gb SSD Lenovo uses is similar to the Samsung 850 Evo.And the PCIe is actually Sata Express. Is the real world speed that different?  Or should I save the trouble and get everything from Lenovo? Please advice!  Thanks!

I'm curious how many RAM slots are available in the T460p (i7 6820HQ) and how they're used in the various RAM confiugurations available to buy. I'm assuming there are two user-accessible slots, but the configurator does not specify how many of those are used for the various RAM options. For example, if I was to get 8GB of RAM would that be 2x4GB, or 1x8GB with an empty slot? There's no indication. Anyone know the answer?! Also curious if anyone has yet determined whether the empty M2 slot in the T460p can be used for an SSD. I hope so, becauuse without the Ultrabay there's otherwise no option to run two drives in the T460p, which would be a step back from the T440p.

Hi, I've tried searching for an answer but can't find one. I'd like to know what total the weight of the T460p would be with the standard 6 cell 47Whr battery. Also how much extra weight would be added by having the 6 cell 72Whr? I've tried adding both configurations to my shopping bag, but can't see anything which indicates the final specification weight. Would be nice information to have available to a potential buyer. Many thanks. Peter

A:Weight of T460p

Good question.  I was wondering the same.  Also curious how far the 72Whr battery sticks out.  Can't seem to find a picture of what it would look like with the larger battery configuration.

I'm having problems with my T460p in Windows 10, when throttling down (due to high power usage or temperature) it will not go back up again until I either suspend/resume or I shut down and restart my computer.

Tried different drivers for the video, currently at the newest from Nvidia, tried removing the Lenovo settings and dependencies drivers as suggested in other threads about similar problems.
Computer becomes very sluggish (it settles at either 1.5GHz or 1.07GHz according to the task manager, numbers that I have checked is right with the program Speccy.

Any suggestions? I have set the windows power settings to high.

I received my new T460p today to replace my T440p.It as the large battery in the back. The T 44 has two batteries, so I could hotswap. Does the T460p only have the external battery? All programs only show me one 76 Wh battery in the system. Battery life is a bout 2.5 hours with nothing installed. I tried the hotswap and the laptop went dead immediately after i removed the rear battery. Does it not have an internal battery like the 440p? The tech specs are unclear.

I recently received my T460P but it seems to always "buzz" - like I can feel it vibrating under the palm rest. It seems to be where the HDD is located and sounds like there is fan there going full speed all the time which causes the whole laptop to "vibrate". Its not a lot, but I can feel it distinctly trough the palm rest and can hear it whirring away. I don think this is the HDD seek activity as if I put my eat to that part of the laptop I can hear the read/write heads moving and it sounds very different to this noise.  Is this normal? I was very surprised that such a high-end laptop has this unusual quirk. It's not the cooling fan I can hear as that's all the way over on the other side of the housing and I can clearly tell when that fan is and isnt running. Is there possibly a fan running to cool the HDD all the time? I've never known anything like that before and would be surprised that the drive would run that warm that it needs a fan all the time.  I'm also concerned what this might be doing to battery life and lifespan of the drive if it is the drive spinning at full speed all the time. The machine specs are:i7 6700HQ16GB RAM2GB NVidia 940MX500GB 7200rpm 2.5" SATA3 Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers

I'm eyeing the T460p. I'm curious how many HDD/SSD's can be installed, 1 or 2? Previous 14" models could have two if you replaced the DVD drive with an ultrabay HDD/SSD or even (I think) the smaller M.2 variant of SSD. In PSREF for T460p I see: Storage: Some: SSD / SATA 6.0Gb/s, 2.5" wide, 7mm high
Some: SSD / PCIe NVMe, PCIe 3.0 x 2, 16Gb/s, 2.5" wide, 7mm high
Some: HDD / SATA 6.0Gb/s, 2.5" wide, 7mm or 9.5mm high,
Shock Mounted Hard Drive, Active Protection System ?
Optical: None On the 2nd line, does the "x 2" imply two PCIe SSDs can be installed? Sounds like only 2.5" form factor and not M.2 There's no optical drive. What did they put in it's place?

A:T460p how many (disk) spindles?

Hi,

Here's the Hardware Maintenance Manual - ThinkPad T460p  looks like a single drive.

The x2 may refer to the number of signal lanes supported, not the number of drive slots.

T460p will NOT support msata drives. Per the spec sheet, it supports one 2.5" drive (either spindle or SSD).  There's no optical drive bay, thus you won't be able to squeeze in a 2nd 2.5" drive. http://psref.lenovo.com/Product/ThinkPad_T460p

Just bought a new UltraDock from Lenovo (to replace the older version that made external speakers buzz loudly when computer was powered off) and am finding it is a bit flakey when my T460p is docked. The problem seems to be the computer does no quite click in properly -- sometimes the display or keyboard will stop working, only to be bought back to life by me pushing down on the computer to re-establish the connection with the dock. Sometimes the display will start to pixelate, only to return to normal when I press down on the machine again.  I can't tell if it's the computer's docking port or the port on the dock itself that is at fault (or both). My T460p does have the extended 72Wh battery -- could that be sticking down slightly too far and impeding the dock connection? Either way, there's no firm "click" that I used to hear in the past when connecting to a dock. More of a faint click that suggests things are not quite connecting fully. I'm also able to lift up the back of the machine and disconnect it from the dock even when it is supposedly locked into the dock using the dock key. Surely this can't be right? Anyone else having such problems? Do I need to send the dock back?

I just received a new T460p and I was shocked to see that it uses cheap plastic tabs/clips under the battery to hold the back cover. These are the same kind I have seen on (relatively) cheaper mainstream Lenovo laptops like the Y50-70. To remove the back cover, I used patience and a thin guitar pick and STILL two of the tabs under the battery slowly fell off.  There are other upset users complaining about the same issue on Reddit and other forums. ThinkPads should be built with ease of maintenance and robustness in mind; accessing the disk and ram slots should not risk the user breaking any little piece of the cover. I don't like the idea of plastic tabs at all, but at least they could have been made more robust and that without impacting the design. I feel cheated. The T460p is an expensive machine, but Lenovo seems to be moving away from what made the ThinkPad line popular and I am considering returning the T460p while I still can.

Dear Lenovo forum, Is this working as intended? I have my computer set to sleep automatically when I close the lid. For example, I go to bed, close the lid, I wake up open the lid and it prompts me to use the fingerprint scanner or to type in the password manually. So I roll / put my finger that is recognized by  the scanner to try and log in, and 9/10 times it does not work. Instead I have to type in my password. But this defeats the whole purpose of me getting the T460p with the fingerprint scanner. The only way it works is if I start it up from sleep, type in my password, then close the lid again, slide/ roll my finger then it works and recognizes my fingerprint. How do I fix this ?? Thanks, P

Hey folks, hoping I'm just missing something obvious here and it's not my device: Something that has started to happen frequently on my brand new T460p is driving me nuts. My display (FHD non-touch) turns off, per the power settings, after 5 minutes of inactivity while on battery power. I prefer to keep this setting active as the display will eat up battery pretty quickly. When I click around to wake the display it will come back on but the cursor will not be visible. I can right click, the screen goes black, left click, the screen comes back. It will flicker whenever something is done that would change what's on the screen. I have to force the computer to sleep with the power button then bring it back awake using the power button and everything seems to be fine after that. There is no reason why a fairly expensive laptop that is brand new should be having trouble turning it's display back on. I haven't dropped the laptop, I haven't handled it roughly. I've had it for about 2.5 weeks now and love everything about it, but I really need to get this display issue resolved. I've checked my drivers and the Lenovo tool says my system is up to date, and I keep the dGPU up to date as well. Could it be a problem with the system deconflicting which GPU drives the display? Has anyone else had this problem with their T460-series laptop? I feel like this must be a hardware/software interface issue that can be resolved somehow. Any help or feedback is greatly appreciated.

A:T460p Major Display Issue

HeySeems most likely a drive issue. u can either use lenovo support to update or iobit driver booster. if not fixed try contacting lenovo and see if they can help. You could also uninstall the driver by device manager, which would make the device update by force

I bought a T460P recently, with a WQHD display in hoping that I can have a better screen. But I got troubles in the display actually. For some softwares, like Microsoft Word, or Adobe Reader, the text shows with sawtooth. This happens even with some places in the Windows system itself. Moreover, icon become so tiny in some cases. I guess this is because the high resolution, or maybe because of other reasons. Is there anyway I can make the display normal?

This page shows where the product name and serial number should supposedly be displayed on my ThinkPad: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/find-product-name?cid=EDM_2016_NA_US_PP_SUPPORT_V2&RRID=1014681098&... Howver, neither of these are displayed on my machine's exterior anywhere. I do happen to know the product name and serial number. I was able to find them other ways - that's not the issue. As far as I know, these physical labels should have come with the machine. Was this simply an error during assembly, or has Lenovo simply stopped putting on these labels? If the former, is there a way to request Lenovo send me these labels? If the latter, Lenovo might consider updating the page linked above. Any inisight would be duly appreciated.Nicholas

Hi, I'm thinking about purchasing a T460p however I have four questions before purchase:- 1. What is a "Software TPM"? I was under the impression a TPM was a piece of hardware? I'm assuming(?) that software TPM means a TPM emulated by the BIOS or something like that, but I'd like a definite confirmation. 2. How hard is it to upgrade the hard-drive/RAM? I would like to install a 1TB SATA3 SSD and upgrade the RAM myself due to the large price difference of the Lenovo upgrade vs just buying it myself. 3. Would upgrading the hard-drive/RAM void my warranty? I'm considering paying the extra 100 for the accidental warranty, but I don't want to have voided it before even using the laptop. I understand the SSD and RAM won't be convered by warranty, but the rest of the device still will be, correct (Keyboard/spills/etc...)? 4. How large of a difference is there between the i7-6700hq and i7-6820hq. From what I can tell from benchmarks, it's a very small difference (2-4%). Can someone explain to me the large price difference? I feel like I'm missing something. Thanks,Nick.

Hey guys, I have purchased the Lenovo T460p and I am thinking of returning it due to a number of issues. I have not yet received it. It is in the final stages of manufacturing.  1. One of the first reviews of the T460p has reported:'A bigger problem is the temperatures of the processor: Even with CPU load-only by Cinebench, it reaches almost 90 C (~194 F) and even up to 93 C (~199 F) in Prime95, which results in a slight clock reduction from 3.1 to 2.9 GHz. In this case, the temperature will level off at around 90 C (~194 F). When we also stress the graphics card as well as the CPU with the tools FurMark and Prime95, we can also see the effect of the TDP limitation at 35 watts. The latter has to suffice for the processor and the graphics card. The full performance is only available during the first 30 seconds, when the chip can consume 45 watts, before the limitation at 35 watts sets in. The temperature climbs to 95 C (~203 F) in this short period. The processor levels off at 2.7 GHz, while the graphics card runs at 900 MHz.'Source: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-ThinkPad-T460p-Notebook-Review.160923.0.htmlMy question is has anyone benchmarked this laptop and found a similar result. 2. One of Lenovo Support partners on this forum has reported he is able to use a Transcend 128 GB M.2 2242 SATA SSD in the optional WWAN slot. Has anyone confirmed that this type of storage chip is supported in the T460p (market ready model). &nbs... Read more

A:Concerns and Questions About Lenovo's T460p (2016)

I purchased a T460p earlier this month and I can say that I'm very happy with it (apart from a small issue with the trackpad, which should be solvable through a driver update though). I run Windows 10 Home on it and have a virtual machine running Ubuntu for my development work. I haven't put it through heavy computing loads yet but using it normally doesn't heat up the CPU a lot, and the fan is surprisingly silent as well. Compared to my T430 the palm rest doesn't heat up very much at all. Concerning the GPU it doesn't seem to impact CPU much, I tested the 3D performance by playing Crysis 2, which runs smoothly at 1280 resolution without overheating the system. I use a Transcend 512 GB SSD in the WWAN slot, which works like a charm. The battery performance is as advertised, when in energy-saving mode the power consumption can go down to 7-8 W, which gives you about 6.5 hours with the 45 Wh battery and 10 hours with the 71 Wh model. Personally I'd recommend choosing the 71 Wh battery, as you get an additional 35 % capacity for just 16 ? and the weight is almost identical to the 45 Wh model (and the form factor is also identical). The model 0C52862 batteries (e.g. for T440 20B6, 20B7; T440s 20AQ, 20AR; X240) are compatible with the T460p btw and available cheaply online, so no need to buy an "original" T460p battery, which are offered for much higher prices it seems. I'd also recommend to stick with the basic RAM/HDD configuration (4 GB... Read more

Unfortunately, the trackpad and touchpad of my T460p stop working intermittently. The problem seems to occur after the laptop is going into hibernation. When it boots up afterwards, neither the trackpad nor the touchpad or the mouse buttons work, and the device manager shows the Synaptics device having a hardware issue. The problem persists when rebooting the system and even when using a different operation system (e.g. Ubuntu via a Live USB). I tried upgrading the Synaptics drivers (v19.0.19.1), which does not solve the problem though. I also tried different driver versions (e.g. the ones offered on the Lenovo site), without success. I encountered this problem both on Windows 10 Home & Windows 10 Enterprise Edition, as well as various Linux flavors (Ubuntu, Fedora). The only workaround that I found is to shut down the laptop, remove the battery and reboot it afterwards, which seems to reset the faulty state the touchpad is in. I strongly suspect that this is a problem with the firmware of either the mainboard or the Synpatics device itself, which puts it into an invalid state when going into hibernation. For now, I disabled hibernation mode, which avoids the problem but is not ideal of course. Did someone else run into this problem? Any ideas how to permanently fix this? I'm very happy with the T460p otherwise but this problem just drives me crazy as it's impossible to use a laptop without touchpad/trackpad when traveling.

I am new to a ThinkPad with fingerprint reader, but not to ThinkPads. Running Windows 7 64-bit. In Windows I installed the Lenovo Touch Fingerprint Software. I enrolled my fingerprints. Windows: It works well with Windows. Instead of logging in to Windows with password I can use the fingerprint. Next to deleting fingerprint data, only option I have in Settings is "Enable pre-boot authentication". Seems when I have this enabled, that windows will automatically log-in (not asking for password or fingerprint) if I used fingerprint to boot-up the computer during boot-time (enabled via BIOS). Boot/BIOS: I am a bit unsure how exactly this is configured via the BIOS. Only when I enable "boot password required" I will be asked to scan my fingerprint (or type the password). I assume it's meant this way. If boot password is disabled, I am not asked for the fingerprint at all. With boot password enabled, and that's strange to me, it would first ask me to scan the fingerprint and when I did so successfully, it will still require the password as well. I first scan my fingerprint, it gets a green checkmark (= success), then it shows the password icon, and next to it a hand which is crossed out, then a moment later I need to enter the password. Is it meant this way? Or should it be password OR fingerprint? Summary of settings (by choice): In Lenovo Touch Fingerprint Software i disabled "pre-boot authetication". This way I still need to ... Just received this unit T460p with the WQHD IPS 2560x1440 and NVIDIA GeForce 940MX, and the color profile seems to be way off. If I open MS Paint and fill a square with 50% Gray, I get what looks like a brownish color. Also, when viewing pictures of people online, they basically look orange. This unit being so new, is this normal?! I am wondering if the panel itself is bad, or just the color profile. Even with the ICC file from NotebookCheck.net (ICC File (X-Rite i1Pro 2)) it's still horrible. I can get close to normal by editting the colors, but this seems ridiculous on such a new and high-end unit. Is this just an issue with Lenovo not doing their homework first, or is it possible the display is no good? I don't want to send it back, just to have them send it back with the same issue, anyone else having issues with theirs? My current HP Elitebook is spot on with its colors, this thing off by a mile.

Hi
I would like to upgrade the HD space in my T460p which comes with an 256GB SSD.
I purchased Samsung 950 PRO m.2 SSD.
Upon disassembling the laptop I realized that there is no place to install the NVME hard drive.
A technicial friend suggested I remove the mobile modem that occupies the PCIe slot and install the drive there, however the drive is longer than the modem and there is no way to bolt it onto the motherboard.
Am I missing something? Is there an empty PCIe slot I can use to install the additional storage?
Thanks in advance.

I have a very annoying problem with my T460p: When suspending the laptop and turning it on again, the trackpad and touchpad devices stop working entirely (no response at all). The problem cannot be fixed by rebooting the machine and can only be resolved by completely powering down the laptop, removing the battery and restarting it afterwards. Symptoms: * During  boot, a message "PS/2 mouse not detected" shows up.* The Windows device manager shows the synaptics touchpad as not functioning.* The problem occurs both under Windows and Linux (Ubuntu 16.04) I am running the latest BIOS version and have updated all drivers on the machine. I have also checked all BIOS settings. Lenovo already replaced the laptop twice, but the problem persists, hence I conclude that it's either a problem in all of the synaptics components or related to something else. I have found many similar bug reports in this forum and elsewhere, not only for the T460p but also other models like the T440 series, hence this is not an isolated case. Please bring this problem to the attention of the support staff, as this is something that is completely unacceptable for a laptop in this price range (especially since everything else is working perfectly). The laptop has the following configuration btw: * i7 6600HQ processor* 20 GB Ram (4 GB on-board + 16 GB extra RAM)* 2 TB HDD + 512 GB SSD via M.2 slot* Otherwise standard configuration Thanks for your help!

Hello Everyone!I just recently bought a Thinkpad T460p to work on CAD softwares. But when I connect an external display to it(HP 24uh) it simply doesn't work. It seems the graphic card NVIDIA GeForce 940MX driver doesn't support it. It works fine with a projector. I used HDMI in both cases. I also updated the graphic card drivers but nothing seems to help.I am using Windows 10 64-bit Education edition. When I go to Control Panel>Display>Adjust Resolution it does shows up the display option but doesn't work. On the other hand when I go to Right click>Display settings and click on detect, it doesn't. But still shows the second display. I also tried with hotkeys for that, doesn't work. I am attaching the appropriate screenshots. Control Panel/Display/Adjust_resolution?Control Panel/Display/Adjust_resolution?Control Panel/Display/Adjust_resolution?Control Panel/Nvidia_Control_Panel?Right_click/Display Settings?Right_click/Display Settings?  I would really appreciate if this problem is fixed. I have a T460p (Window 10) in an ultradock and am unable to switch between 2nd output speakers (plugged into ultradock headphone port) and internal laptop speakers. The Realtek driver recognizes both "playback devices", but when the computer is docked there is absolutely no way to play any sound through the internal speakers, even if the external speakers are turned off. The only way to get the internal speakers to play is to physically unplug the external speakers from the ultradock, or undock the computer.  Is there any way around this? I don't always want to use my external speakers, especially when on a skype call etc. Tried reinstalling the Realtek driver to no avail. Should I just uninstall it altogether and use the default Windows audio drivers? I used to have a T440p (Windows 8.1) and I was able to switch between internal and external speakers easily when docked (via volume mixer > playback devices).

Hey all, I woke up this morning and started using my computer to find that there were white spots on my computer screen that I had not previously noticed. I have had the computer for two years and haven't had any similar issues. There does not appear to be anything wrong with the pixels, as the color changes appropriately - it's just brighter. Furthermore, the bright spots on the screen heat up much more than the rest of the screen, which remains cool. I also noticed that, though this may be a separate issue, the touch screen isn't responding. Here is an image (it's much more noticeable on a white background): http://imgur.com/09sYisg   Any help is much appreciated!

After numerous Windows 8 installations going back and forth between 7 and 8 I've finally decided to stay with Windows 8.1 Pro (x86). It feels lighter on the resources and even the gaming performance seems to have increased in relation to Windows 7 Ultimate.

It seems to me like W8.1 is a lot lighter on its feet than its predecessor despite all the hype about the new Metro UI. Once I got used to it, it became a more modern/practical OS to me, and above all significantly lighter/faster than Windows 7 Ultimate (x86).

Is this supported by facts? Is anyone feeling the same way?

Thx in advance!

A:Is Windows 8.1 faster/lighter than Windows 7?

I held off for a very long time moving to 8.1 from 7

I was infuriated that tablet interfaces had infiltrated my beloved windows OS. Ive used a PC since they were nothing but a blank screen. I can't even remember what I did with it.
Windows 3.1 was my favorite, Millennium made me laugh

All I needed were two apps and my 8.1 is just like 7 in the interface department. When I am inclined to use some of the nifty UI aspects of 8.1 I can do so with ease.
I find 8.1 to be the fastest OS Ive used in the past 12 years. I love it. I also find it extremely stable, maybe I'm just lucky.
What annoyances I do find., there is an answer for in here. I wouldn't go back for quids. I will add that I am a very hard man to please, stubborn and anal.

There are some of devices that were mission from device manager.
At first, there was a problem with wireless adapter, I couldn't enable it.
I tried to reinstall drivers serveral times, but it didn't fix the problem.
So i reformat my system, 2 times. the problem is still existing.
It's getting worst, now i can't find wireless network adapter, lan network adapter and card reader in device manager.
It is weird that sometime the  wireless adapter appears in device manger, those 2 devices come back too.
I am quite sure that my wireless adapter hardware is ok because i did replace new wireless adapter but the problem still exist.
I ran some antivirus tools, antimalware tools, non of them return infected.
The weirdest issue is that my wireless adapter comes with bluetooth adapter.
but only bluetooth adapter can be used, it works perfectly fine.
Could you please take a look at this problem, im at the deadend. this is the weirdest problem i ever had with  my laptop and pc.
Thank you

I am desperate. really really desperate, I don't know what to do anymore

I spent a lot of money on a new gaming pc and it has been a complete nightmare from the start. I have wireless network at home so I had to het a usb wifi adapter, the Netgear N300 WiFi USB Mini Adapter.

Its setup cannot complete because it is stuck eternally at "detecting adapter"

I sought online but it's only people reporting the problem and NOBODY giving a solution. pleas pleeeaaaase somebody help.

A:Netgear N300 WiFi USB Mini Adapter stuck detecting adapter

Power down PC...while it off remove USB wifi adapter....power on PC. When PC has finished booting up, search in the uninstall programs list for any software related Netgear and uninstall it. Reboot and start the process again.

According to the system requirements for that device, it does not support windows 10, which may be you issue.

Hey,
I have two problems so i will explain the scenario then number out the issue. I had a new hard drive installed, when i booted the laptop, it worked well. The wifi in my area is very low so I was told I can use a wireless adpter to "boost" the signal strength received. I was given a Encore ENUWI-N3 Wireless Adapter to use. I installed the utility program from the official website and the computer still did not recognise the device, so I deleted the program. I then lost connection to the internet, and at the time i thought the wifi can dropped (i later realised that was not the case since my phone's wifi was still connected). I then reinstalled the software ( the executible file was saved on the harddrive), and it give me the same message that there are no drivers for the adapter.

I shifted my attention to my failed internet connection, after troubleshooting it give me a error 28 message stating that there were no drivers installed for the Broadcom wireless adapter that is internally installed. I tried a system restore to before i tried installing the Encore adapter, and still nothing, the system continued to give me the same message and it registered in the "device manager" as unknown device named "ethernet controller" with a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark. I have been able to borrow a laptop and download the LAN adapter fron the ACER support website, and although it had no "set up.exe" file visible i was able to get... Read more

Hello

I have my AWUS036H for a few months now and it worked perfect until now.
My landlord has a router in his appartment and I need to connect to that router to get access to the internet.
I bought this adapter for a better signal but this week I got a very weird problem.
My adapter can find all the networks surrounding it except my landlord his network. But my inbuilt adapter can find my landlord's network and all the others. To clarify, here an example:

AUS036H finds:
Neighbour1 (strong signal)
Neighbour2 (strong signal)

Inbuilt adapter finds:
Neighbour1 (weak signal)
Neighbour2 (weak signal)
Landlord's network (weak signal)

What is going on? It drives me nuts!

Thanks in advance

Here is the problem, the AWUS036H can only see b or g signals, it's not 802.11n capable so it can't see N only signals. The Landlord has a router which is set to broadcast the faster setting which is 802.11n only, not mixed with b or g because that would limit the connection speed to 54Mbps.

This means that you can't see his N only signal because the AWUS036H isn't N capable. No doubt the inbuilt adaptor is N capable.

You really need to get one that can pick up b, g and more importantly n which is much faster and usually has more range.

Hello!

I registered to forums to get help to solve wireless adapter issue I am having.

I have been looking for help in Lenovo forums and AV provider: problem is still on.

Background

I changed AV software from Symantec to F-Secure. I uninstalled Symantec software and installed F-Secure software. Laptop is Lenovo T520.

What happened

First I recognized that ping commands caused Windows to crash. Then I uninstalled some VPN softwares and ping started to work. Operation did something to wireless and LAN connections, they did not work anymore.

LAN started to work by removing LAN drivers from device manager and reboot. After reboot Windows reinstalled LAN drivers and LAN was ok.

Wireless is a pain in there. I have tried almost everything. All Lenovo provided network softwares and power management tools are uninstalled and reinstalled together with wireless drivers. Wireless driver is not recognized by Windows.

None of automatic repairs or wifi uninstallation operations have corrected problem.

I collected some logs which might help, but now I do not know how to proceed. Windows reinstallation is something which I do not want to do.

I have an Inspiron 6000 (home) running XP and a Latitude D610 (XP) that I used to be able to use interchangably with a Comcast modem and a Netgear WGR614 router. A couple of weeks ago, my internet connections slowed and now have ended.

After several phone calls to Comcast, the last tech told me the problem was "the network address showing in the device manager is different than the network address that shows in the TCIP/IP settings." I am getting an error message of "network cable unplugged" on the Inspiron and the red X on the second of the two adapters (1st is 1394; 2nd is Broadcam 440x 10/100). I can get internet from the Latitude when directly connected to the cable modem, but not when routed through the router for wireless.

We have tried multiple reconfig of the IP, shutting everything down (computers, router, modem) all with no success. Any help anyone can provide would be great--I still need to order Christmas presents.

After upgrading to Windows 8.1, things were working fine until about 100+ updates came through... and now these TAP-Windows Adapter V9 and TAP-Win32 Adapter OAS drivers are installing over and over again. I uninstall the drivers and they come back, I
disable them, and they re-enable themselves. I have looked up answers to this issue, and I do not use a VPN...so none of that applies to me.

The unfortunate part is that I get constant interruptions with my internet and don't even want to touch my laptop hardly anymore because of this...but I need to because I am trying to start a business and get back into school. The only way I can get the
internet to work again is to disable the drivers, and troubleshoot my wireless adapter. It renews the wireless adapter, the internet works for anywhere between one minute to an hour before I have to troubleshoot again.

HELP?? How to I block those drivers? There needs to be a Microsoft Removal Tool and a major update...
I tried to add a screenshot, but it took so long to verify me that I had already deleted it after 4 days.

Hey, I wanted to put some new games on my Laptop, and I got the Direct X 9.0c Compatible Graphics Adapter message. So I went online, and was instructed to go onto Device Manager and I found I had Standard VGA Graphics Adapter, so then I got some kind of update checker and it looked through my hardware and found that my Graphic Adapter needed updating...

I have already put some of the games I want on my laptop before now, and un-installed them when I ran out of space, and now I have more space I want to put them back on.

I tried a link for the Update, but it told me to use Windows Update, but it doesn't seem to work.

Does anyone know a free way of updating Standard VGA Graphics Adapter?

That would be helpful x :grinthumb

Hi,

thanks for looking in and trying to help. I have a laptop with Windows 7 on it, and as usual today the laptop's screen frame also accomodates the internal Wireless Internet antenna. I am able to use the existing networks when they are close enough to me.

But I wanted to have a better reception, so I bought one of those USB-based Wireless Internet Adapters (WIA) which have mounted a little 5 dBi antenna (dBi = Decibel) on its side. I bought recently a much larger 22 dBi antenna, which I can use to replace the smaller antenna on that WIA. Windows also recognized the USB device correctly (please see the screenshot link: http://www.NADB.net/v/Prom/WLAN.jpg), but the connection tool at the lower right side of Windows (system tray area) displays only those networks which the internal screen frame antenna captures.

I tried already to disable the internal antenna, but then I don't get any network. Why can't the Network Connection icon not show networks the USB WIA might capture? What is it I am doing wrong?

Please don't mind to ask me for additional details here, I will provide them as additional details.

problem w/ Microsoft 6to4 adapter (network adapter)

I am frequently being disconnected from the internet.

Microsoft 6to4 adapter (network adapter) has a exclamation mark (!) in a yellow triangle in device manager.

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.

When i check for solutions, it says cannot load driver software.

Hello, this problem has really confuzzled me. I have just bought a new wireless USB adapter, ran it through the setup entered the password etc. Fine. Nicely connects to the router everytime (well ok most the time). But it cant seem to find the internet, which i know is there because my house mate has no problems with it. I've read quite a few complaints about this adapter. Is it worth just returning it and trying a different one? Or does anyone have any ideas?

It finds the submask, ip address, sets a channel automatically. One thing i noticed though is it doesnt create a gateway. (i asume cos i cant find the net). I did have internet before but they were wired. I've since then disabled the normal ethernet adapter and disabled the old connections. So i dont think theres anything conflicting.

Please help?!!
Thank you in advance i really appreciate it.

A:Belkin Wireless adapter - can connect to the adapter, but not the internet!!!

I'm going to guess that the IP address that it finds is 169.254.x.x and the subnet mask is 255.255.0.0, right? It's really NOT connecting to the router, which is why you don't have a Default Gateway or DNS servers.

You don't have to disable the wired interface to connect wirelessly, there's no conflict.

I'd suggest you first disable the encryption and see if it connects. If it does, then you need to make sure you enter matching passwords for the encryption on each end. Note that for WEP you should ONLY use the HEX password, do not use the passcode option.
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

The name of your ISP and country of residence.
Make/model of the broadband modem. If dial-up, please specify.
Make/model of the router (if any).
Connection type, wired, wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (WEP, WPA, WPA2, etc.)
Make/model of network card or wireless adapter.
Make/model of your computer (motherboard if home-built).
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP2.

I'm not totally computer-literate when it comes to hardware and such, but I am fairly literate with most computer terms. So in advance, I apologize for any confusion a misused hardware name may cause.

Also, before I begin, let me just say that the issues hereafter discussed apply to a computer separate from this one. This computer works fine, but the one I will be talking about, my computer, is the one without an internet connection at the moment.

So recently, my network adapter decided to stop working. I won't go into the details, but it's completely fried, and I'd much rather spend the money to get a new one instead of go through the hassel of trying to fix my old one. And thus we come to question number one:

Do most (if not all) network adapter cards work with most PCs? I have a Dell Dimension 4500 with Windows XP Home edition with highspeed cable internet, so would pretty much any network adapter do the job? My stepdad, who is fairly computer-literate (though often too cocky about it) says that pretty much all network adapters will work with any computer, unless the computer and network adapter are old or new, respectively. Also, what are the most reliable brands of network adapters? What kind of details about the product should I look for when purchasing?

Now on to the second part of my post: wireless internet adapter. For a while, my computer has been a few feet from the router because we had/have no way for a cord to reach anywhere else, particu... Read more

First, can you describe the "problems" you are having with your Ethernet card?

Can you post a screen shot of the Ethernet card entry in your "Device Manager"?

Hi
I have a Huawei HG533 router, which is sending a signal to a new Cisco (linksys) AE2500 adapter in
another room, which is connected to an Acer PC. However the signal strength (in bottom left corner) is
only on 3 bars, sometimes 2 bars, and the speed is 13Mbps.

I have just bought the AE2500 adapter hoping it would provide a better signal than my very old Belkin adapter, which is 802.11g - 54 Mbps. When I use the old belkin adapter, the signal strength is at 4 bars, and is is nearly walways at 54 Mbps.

Does anyone know why the signal strength and Mbps is so low on the Cisco AE2500.

Points to note: I use WPA2-personal AES encryption on Windows vista operating system. The channel is on Auto.
I've changed the channels from 1 to 11 and still it doesn't change the Mbps much, and is always below 54 Mbps. I've changed the signal for around from using, g only, to n only, and b/g/n, and still nothing improves. Infact the g only is the best channel. The only time the connection goes to a high level of Mbps, is when I change the changing settings to 'n only' and whilst it is saving and the screen loads, for a split second goes to 144Mbps and has 5 bars signal strength, but when everything is loaded/saved, it drops to either 6.5Mbps or 13Mbps, and it moves to 2 or 3 bars signal strength.

Is the Cisco (Linksys) AE2500 adapter a good one to use with the HG533 router, or should I use another usb
adapter instead? Does anyone know how to get the signal higher than 54Mbps in 802.11n mo... Read more

I just bought a brand new Asus K52F and when the laptop goes into sleep mode the "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter & WiFi Miniport Adapter #2" fail. When i turn the computer back on i have trouble connecting to the internet, and the devices have error (code 43). I can still connect to the internet though. I have re-downloaded the drivers, rolled them back, updated them, everything but it hasn't worked. Any help would be sweet.

Also can anyone tell me what the white light up button next to the power button does??

A:WiFi Miniport Adapter/Adapter #2 Error

The virtual wifi mini port adaptor is used as a virtual wifi device so you can turn your machine into a wireless AP "access point" either with commands or the connectify software. The adaptor sometimes activates itself and causes problems, even when your not using it as an access point.

It should fix the problem if you go into device manager, go to "view" top of page, then choose "show hidden devices" which should allow you to see the mini port, disable the virtual mini port adaptor and that should fix the problem.

That little button next to the power button is a reset button, it's like restarting but a little different.
