Audio distortion running Windows 7 64 bit

Q: Audio distortion running Windows 7 64 bit

What follows is the text of the initial message that I posted at the Dell Desktop Forum regarding this problem:
Running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, Service Pack 1 on a Dell XPS 8700 Special Edition PC. I am experiencing audio distortion/breakup & dropouts/skips when playing music from the computer through headphones or external speakers. The problem occurs whether the source is iTunes, Windows Media or the optical drives. The longer the listening time, the more frequent & severe the errors become. When listening to ripped copies of the same music through an iPod connected directly to the audio system or headphones, no errors occur. I have installed an ASUS Xonar U7 external sound card. This seems to have improved the overall sound but it has not solved the distortion issue. The relevant drivers appear to be up to date. Any suggestions? Thanks.
After a series of exchanges with Chris M, and performing actions suggested by him that included establishing that the Onboard Audio Controller was disabled & removal of the program REALTEK HIGH DEFINITION AUDIO DRIVER, Chris M's latest reply was:
I do not think that this is a computer hardware issue. The fact that both the Realtek and the 3rd party Xonar both have the issue points to the operating system resource allocation has the problem. You need to repost the issue on the Microsoft Operating System board to get their thoughts and opinions.
So, here I am. Anyone have any suggestions? As I mentioned in my initial post, the audio drivers appear to be up to date. I suppose I could check them again ... Or maybe it is time to convert to Windows 10?

I recently got a new laptop (pre-installed with windows 7), I am experiencing d a very odd lag. Usually, I was doing something like web browsing in Firefox or playing online games. My sound would lag and make this awful screeching static sound, and anything I had up, would lag or stop responding. Bringing up the task manager was also a hassle, as clicking or initiating anything else was met with extreme lagging resistance. While initially these bouts of lockup would run their course, they've been getting more severe.  I had to force a manual shut down. When I rebooted (which fixed it in the past, albeit temporarily), it still suffered this same extreme lag and sound distortion. It just keeps getting worse and worse.  I have tried to call Gateway tech support but its nothing but unhelpful automated voice recording.  I don't know what to do.  I'm sick and tired of this lag and audio lag.  I can't seem to get any help with it at all.

A:Windows 7 lag and Audio Distortion

I had the problem of audio distortion, clipping and compression after I installed Windows 7. Nothing worked although I properly updated all audio related drives until I stumbled upon new settings interface in Windows 7 which I did not suspect.
Here is what I did, which completely solved my audio problems.
Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Playback tab.
Right click on a playback device, and choose Configure Speakers. The default is set to Stereo. I recommend choosing Quadrophonic if you do not have a subwoofer, and 5.1 Surround if you have a subwoofer connected. Go through the tests and confirm OK. Go through
the rest of the playback devices.
Finally, re-confirm default playback device (even if it was already set as default device – by choosing a difference device as default first then re-selecting the intended default device).
Give an audio source such as YouTube a try. I was surprised all my distortions, compressions and clipping issues were now completely gone.

I have noticed that when I used two things together say:
Music Player and YouTube
Music Player and Screensaver (certain screensaver not all of them)
Music Player and scrolling down a webpage(Facebook)

I will hear pops and cracks in my music. What would could be causing this? I have the latest audio drivers and I am not sure what else I can update. Any thoughts on the cause?

Before you go getting a new hard drive, I also had this issue. There are two versions of Win 7, one includes drivers and one doesn´t. Try this: go into your device manager and scan down to find your Audio then look to see if there are any big yellow questions marks. These will be missing or out of date drivers. Update or install these drivers then see how you go. Control panel> sound> test. Good luck.

This started happening the same day I upgraded from 8.1, but it went away. Suddenly it's come back worse than it ever was. I've tried uninstalling my Realtek drivers and rebooting and I've tried changing the sample rate. No change.
This is INFURIATING. I can't listen to music, watch videos, play games without the audio stuttering and it's driving me crazy.

When I play the radio through the computer, I get a wavering, raspy, echo noise. If I record this, the noise remains on the recording.

But, if I play from the computer DVD RW, I do not get the noise, and if I record I don't get it either.
Thanks for any help.

What model Inspiron?

Exactly how are you "playing the radio"? Is this internet radio? or are you inputting the audio from an external radio to the PC?

How about other audio, other than CD/DVD audio? Are system sounds OK?

More info is needed for someone to try an help you.

I do a lot of support on the Dell users community forum and have never seen this problem posted. I have seen problems with Echo, etc but when that happens it is on everything because "sound enhancements" have been enabled.

I have the same Intel M/B on my system. Slowdown and speed up on many PC's is the wrong driver and if the default Windows installed drivers were used that could be the problem. The first thing, did you install the Intel chipset drivers? If not that is one issue as they must be installed as they define (identify) the devices on or attached to the motherboard. Actually the chipset drivers should (must) be installed before installing the sound (and some other devices). Intel doesn't have much in the way of drivers for Win 7 on the downloads but in the case of the SigmaTel (IDT) the Vista drivers will work (and even provide the System Mixer).

I have been looking for a solution for weeks and have tried so many options but still no luck.

I'm running Win7/64 on a Dell Inspiron 518 dual core processor.

When I attempt audio playback on files or online sound it distorts and lags. I know this is a problem that many others have but the solutions offered have not worked for me.

When I run DPC Latency Checker I get solid red. I have disabled each device one by one. When I disable the Network Adapter (Netgear WNA1100 N150 wireless usb adapter) 'most' of the reds turn to low greens. I have tried different wifi usbs and various driver updates but nothing changes. If I disable the Net Adapter sound improves but then again no internet. I have no way to connect direct via cable. I have also tried moving devices i.e. external HDs, printer & usb sound system to different USB connections but still the same.

This has been happening for about 4 weeks and cannot figure out why all of a sudden.

I've run malwarebytes and other diagnostics but no change.

Any new ideas/solutions would be greatly appreciated. Would really like to get my sound back to normal without the crackling again.

Thanks.

A:Audio lag and distortion

This is a fairly often reported problem on all, not just Dell's. The first thing, reinstall the Dell supplied sound driver. I used to do a lot of support on the Dell forums and we found that non-Dell supplied sound drivers either do not work or do not work correctly.

Wi-Fi is a known cause of audio problems. As this is a desktop, you should be connecting directly with a cable, not wireless unless its absolutely the only way you can connect.

Dell only has Vista drivers, but the Vista drivers work OK as Windows 7 is basically only "Vista Improved".

I'm usually good at fixing all my pc problems but this one is truly a mind bender.

Hi, I have a HP Envy15 with Windows 10. The fan is broken so I use a cooling pad under the laptop to keep it from overheating. When I'm doing something a little more intensive like stream music or try to play a game, the laptop starts lagging severely and the audio becomes lagged and distorted. I don't know if it's overheating or if some software I have installed is doing this (The only things I can think of that I don't know specifically about are the pre-installed HP and Intel audio, graphics, etc. stuff.)

When I came back some of the higher frequency sounds (read: vocals and similar range) are incredibly low and distorted. As well as some distortion in the rest of the range of sound.

I've tried adjusting the sound using both the default windows sound options and my audio software that came with my mobo. Also tried using a different codec pack rather than the one I had installed before. All with no changes in the sound.
I also tried reinstalling directX.

Everything is reset back to default from before I left.

The audio and video on my Acer netbook is super distorted...Everything from my Windows start up tune to hulu and itunes.

I thought that there was too much stuff on it but I still have 62% of my 160 gb of memory left. I decided to defrag my hard drive anyway...it didn't work.

I also ran a virus scan the other day and came up clean...

Nothing else seems to be wrong with it...all other programs work just fine (unless it involves video and audio).

My Acer netbook is running Windows XP...

Thanks,

Since the construction of my most recent 2014 PC build, I've been having an issue where any headsets used for VOIP over extended periods of time have a strange breakdown of the audio quality.

While I have no exact way of simulating the issue, my closest explanation would be that all audio into the headsets sound as if they've had their gain throttled and the bit rate drastically decreased (as I've attempted in comedic format here). The issue cannot be heard by other people listening directly to the "What U Hear" virtual recording device which outputs directly from the system sound to voice chat, and any screen recording software I've ever used cannot seem to pick up the issue either — it is localised to the device I was using and its connection.

This issue has occurred on two headsets: the Plantronic .Audio 355 and Turtle Beach Ear Force X13 (both have in-line volume control and integrated microphones). The issue is not present when using standalone headphones such as an ATH-AD700 or MDR-V150 (in this case, even one with a broken jack) which I use in conjunction with third party microphones such as a Logitech C270 web cam mic.

I use on-board Game Blaster 7.1 Audio built into an ASRock x79 Extreme 11 mobo with the Sound Blaster control panel drivers and software.

EDIT: Sorry for the weird, incomplete post. I was trying to alt+tab and somehow submitted this.
EDIT2: Fixed.

Hello
Whenever I try to watch YouTube videos the audio and video gets distorted and slows down to about 1/4 speed and the voices slow down to make it sound like I am listening to a guy with a deep voice. This only happens when the video is loading and completely stop when the video is fully loaded. This also happens with other videos on other websites but this only happens most of the time. sometimes I click on a video and it does not distort right at the beginning. The video also sometimes plays normally and gradually slows down distorting the audio. For everything the video and audio are synced.I have also tried disabling my default audio driver, and re installing Realtek but to no avail.

I am running Windows 8 with Realtek Hd Audio installed. This is a custom built pc with no additional sound card installed. Motherboard is msi h61m-p31.
Thanks in advance!

If this just started, use the System Restore and restore the PC back to an available restore date when it didn't happen. See if this fixes it. If not, System Restore has an option to undo the restore.

If System Restore didn't fix it, it could be what is on the Shared IRQ's with the sound and video. Video should either be on its own IRQ or it is the higher priority device on the shared IRQ. Sound is reverse it is the lower priority device on the shared IRQ. Uninstalling the devices in the Device Manager (do not uninstall the drivers) then restarting the PC and when Windows starts it will reinstall the devices. This fixes a lot of flakey problems and/or Windows corruptions with the devices.

Reseating the video card is another option.

I have a Sapphire Radeon HD7770 video card, but haven't experienced any problems with it other than I had to completely uninstall the old drivers and Catalyst Control Center and then restart the PC in order to install the latest drivers. I never had to do that with my old PC and a Radeon HD4550 video card.

I have an older system which for some reason seems to have developed issues with audio/video distortion & lag, as well as some lag when opening programs & at start-up. There are no pop-ups or error messages appearing when this occurs.

I did a full-system virus scan (Norton), did a system defrag, and even tried reinstalling my sound driver already. System restore will not work for some reason -- I've tried multiple dates, and each time following reboot I get a message stating that System Restore is not available for the selected date. I have also tried temporarily disabling my Norton Antivirus to see if it might be interfering with my system somehow, but that didn't help either.

On the advice from another poster in the Windows XP forum where I originally posted this issue, I was advised to do a HijackThis scan & post the log. He seemed to think that my system is infected.

I built this PC 3 months ago and I have had this problem since then, I had a PC before that this one and I think I had the same problem on that one.

While doing certain tasks and I heard it once while browsing folders, I will get very distorted audio. This video Win7 distorted noise - YouTube (Not mine) you can hear at the 2:12 mark a very noticeable audio distortion, thats the exact distortion I have. I only get it while doing specific things such as installing Directx (Only rarely happens), I can get it to happen 95% the time when I try to uninstall Java and the window pops up saying "are you sure?".

Now I first thought this may be the RAM I have installed (2 Sticks of XMS 4GB, one is 1333mhz & one is 1600mhz, both of them run at 1333mhz). I took out the 1333mhz one and I still get the audio distortion so mismatched RAM isn't the problem.

I am going to try uninstalling Realtek audio drivers and install them again using the motherboard disk to see if that may fix it.

If anyone has a idea why this is happening please post, it's very appreciated.

Edit: This may have fixed it: I uninstalled the realtek audio drivers and restarted the PC, upon going through the same process of uninstalling Java I noticed the very small slowdown when it was loading the uninstaller but didn't get the audio distortion that went with it. I am going to keep it as it is and if I don't get any more distortion I will close the topic.

Unless you must have Java, there is no need to install it. I uninstalled Java almost a year ago and have never had a need for it. There have been several issues with Java security.

Audie is on a shared IRQ (Interrupt) with a higher priority device and that can also cause some sound problems, but not usually distortion - that is usually interruptions/dropouts in sound.

I can still hear the audio of the game or movie but the interference almost drowns it out. Any help would be much appreciated, and go easy, I'm a n00b.

If the machine is old the most likely problem is the onboard audio has failed. If you discover this to be the problem just install a PCI audio card and you should be good to go.

I'm using a Dell XPS L702X laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium, and I've been getting these strange patches of Audio Distortion, usually accompanied by other types of lag, for a while now. They usually last from 2-15 seconds, and it seems that they are becoming more frequent and longer in length, but that might just me getting tired of them. Anyway, it tends to happen more often when my CPU usage is high, but can go on at any time.

Might this be a problem with my video/sound card? Please let me know if you have a solution, or require more information to find on.

I have had this computer for about a year now and it recently started acting up. What happens is the audio begins to distort and than the computer freezes if I close something out. This only used to happen when a lot of stuff was running at once or a big game was player, Spore for example. Recently it has been doing it more. Before if I skyped with youtube on while i played a game, you know big stuff, it would do this, but now if I have a paused youtube video or an ended youtube video on while I play minecraft it does the same thing. There is no error code or anything, I have to manually turn it off and on.

Please Help
Sincerely ~Sean

PS. I will see if I can get an audio sample for the forum of what happens.

When my computer first turns on the sound in the speakers is distorted. Its very scratchy and if theres enough volume in them you can hear a hum. When I right click the icon on the tray for the hd audio deck and click exit the sound problems persist, but when I reselect the program I just closed it instantly corrects the distortion completely. What is going on and how do I fix it?

A:VIA HD AUDIO DECK sound distortion

No replys and still no help online please tell me how to fix this problem. If i play test sounds through the audiodeck it plays fine but any other program sounds scratchy. If i reset the audiodeck it works again for a little while any one know how to fix this.

The audio on any file captured using the ATI TV software is distorted, especially on the composite input.

I get OK audio using the ULEAD Videostudio 5 software that came bundled with the board, but that software has other problems that makes it unusable (it quits recording automatically if it encounters any noise or tape dropouts, no matter how slight).

I bought this board with the intention of converting VHS tapes over to DVD.

None of the AIT Tech support sites seem to be up. I wonder if this company's going out of business.

Well, this is my last resort. I've done everything else I know of --

I have a Sony Vaio All-in-One desktop (model no. VPCL114FX) with Windows 7 Home Premium (Service Pack 1), 64-bit. The processor is Intel Core 2 duo CPU E7500 @ 2.93GHz 2.94 GHz, the RAM is 4.00 GB. I have a brand new 1 terabyte hard drive.

I bought this computer a couple of months ago and have consistently had this problem since day one even though the previous owner says he had no problems. Every time I play a YouTube video, the screen locks up and there is intense audio distortion. Sometimes it does this with DVDs and very rarely games.

My techie brother cleaned the entire system out and installed some fixes, which allowed me to game just fine and play media, but did not help with streaming video. Unrelated to this, the hard drive crashed and I had the local computer store replace it. This included reinstalling the operating system and everything. So two days ago, I had a brand new OS, every single driver updated, and everything running perfectly fine. Including videos.

Yesterday, it started locking up, freezing, doing the audio distortion again. I've tried forcing YouTube to play to HTML5, forcing it to play to Shockwave, uninstalled/reinstalled Shockwave, turned hardware acceleration on/off. I found a fix online that had me go to "control panel > system > Advanced > Performance > Settings > Advanced > Virtual Memory > Change." I increased the value to the r... Read more

A:Video locking up, audio distortion

Ensure you are using the latest video driver available from Sony.

You could also try using an older video driver. You could try using a driver directly from nVidia (which are likely newer).

Aside from that, it sounds like a hardware fault (ie: failing video chipset or simply overheating) as the problem continues after a fresh OS/driver installation.

In the last week, all sound on my laptop has started to crackle slightly. I changed headphones, but realized that thats not the problem. If i increase volume, the crackling gets worse, and distortion really sets in. Strange....only started happening last week. I have tried reinstalling my sound card driver, but no change there. Have looked around all my audio settings but cant find any clues. music etc is still listenable, but there is just a faint crackle constantly annoying me. and distortion if i turn the volume up louder.

Does this mean my sound card is wearing out?? or is it a physical prob inside?

my sound card is : Conexant AC link audio

I've had this problem for a while. Sometimes it happens, other times it does not. Usually I can simply reboot and the problem will be solved for the day. But, it's been getting worse.
My CPU usage will jump to about 60-80% every once and a while and all my sounds and videos will lag for half a second, then I will get this weird buzzing distorted sound. Upon investigation in my resource monitor, I noticed that every time the distortion happens, the "system" process jumps to 20-30% CPU. I'm fairly certain this is the culprit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds to me like your have a cooling issue. Remove any dust from your heat sink. insure the fan is working. If all are good to go and your still having very high temps that would be time to repaste the heat sink to your CPU.

I have an older system which for some reason seems to have developed issues with audio/video distortion & lag, as well as some lag when opening programs & at start-up. There are no pop-ups or error messages appearing when this occurs.

Toshiba Satellite A-100 laptop
Intel Centrino Duo
Windows XP
Realtek sound driver
Total Disk Space: 101 GB
Free Space: 75.4 GB

I did a full-system virus scan (Norton), did a system defrag, and even tried reinstalling my sound driver already. System restore will not work for some reason -- I've tried multiple dates, and each time following reboot I get a message stating that System Restore is not available for the selected date.

I'm at a total loss...anyone have any additional suggestions?

I uninstalled a bunch of programs from my laptop today, I am running Windows 7 64 bit os. I made sure to google all of the programs before-hand to see if I really needed them or not.
Significant uninstalls to mention are:
Adobe Air
All of my old Javas (I had 5 of them, then downloaded and reinstalled the newest one)
Microsoft Silverlight
HP I.R.I.S OCR
and a bunch of Windows Live programs.

I didnt think that any of those would effect my sound at all. Sound is now crackeling and distorted - I have tried playing audio in TigerPlayer and iTunes.

Hello,

I don't really know much about audio, so I'll just tell you guys what I'm experiencing. I have had the Tritton AX360 headset for quite some time now, and I've always used the analog 5.1 inputs. I've recently tried to use the optical cable, which has to go through the AX360 digital decoder that came with the headset. When I use the optical cable, the sound has a lot of background noise, even when I have the volume at 0. I do not have a sound card, and I am using onboard audio on my evga 122-CK-NF68-A1 motherboard, which has an azalia audio chipset with 8 audio channels.

Can somebody please help me understand why my sound does this?
If you need more information, please let me know.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

A:Optical Audio Distortion (Fuzzy)

If the headset has a mic built in, you might be hearing the feedback. You'd be surprised how much an idle mic will produce so if that's the case you might want to mute it out. If the onboard audio has some type of mixing software, you may want to look over the settings real quick to make sure everything is in line. Just as a heads up though, you would probably have better luck with a dedicated sound adapter over the onboard unit anyways. The integrated sound should work with the optical, but depending on how good the quality of the hardware is your results may be less than desirable.

Recently, I had my hard drive replaced after I ruined my old one. Since then, I've been having issues with computer lag. It will take a while before anything actually happens, but if I'm watching Youtube videos, eventually my computer screen will freeze while the audio from the video will become slow and distorted. It takes about a minute before it becomes unfrozen and the audio returns to normal, but then it'll happen again and again, sometimes 10 min later, sometimes 20 min later. I never had this problem before I replaced my hard drive and it is really starting to be irritating, and I'm hoping someone can help me fix the issue.

Every time I use my (new, just out of the box) laptop's trackpad while watching a video/listening to music/doing anything that uses the speakers, the audio becomes staticky and distorted. It's been happening since I bought it a couple weeks ago. I've tried uninstalling the trackpad drivers and rebooting, uninstalling a couple audio drivers and rebooting, but nothing has had any effect. I haven't noticed the same distortion while using earphones or an external speaker. I've seen a couple people with Acer laptops (not the same model) reporting the same problem, but their issues seem to have been resolved by uninstalling the drivers. Does anyone have any other solutions, or at least a potential explanation for the problem?

I am running xp sp2 on a dell e1705.
I am experiencing randoms clicks/distortion on the playback of audio files in both Itunes 7.5 (quicktime 7.3.1) and Media center 11. These can occur on any track and do not occur in the same place twice so if I hear a click at, say, 54 secs on a track and I replay that part the click is not there.
I do not get this problem at all when I play the same tracks on my Ipod.
I initially thought the problem lay with Itunes and so I reinstalled both Itune and Quicktime. I have set the audio preferences in Quicktime to 64 khz and 16 bit, I have also tried the safe mode (waveout only) to no effect.
The default device for playback in windows is Sigmatel Audio. I have set the hardware acceleration to zero.
The clicks appear at random but seem to have some correlation with processor demand, ie when I open a program or save a file I will sometimes but not always hear the distortion.
Any help/advice would be gratefully received.

Hi Jopplehead.

chev65 has suggested setting sound quality to: 16 bit, 48000 Hz, (DVD Quality) at this thread: No Sound out of Front Speakers

Also blackroseMD1 posted that sometimes using "speaker fill" to emulate 5.1 sound when only 2 channel stereo is available can cause unwanted effects here: Audio 5.1 in Windows 7

*EDIT - Solved. It was a driver problem. I reinstalled (again) and it works fine now. Go figure. So much for tech support. I'll leave this here in case anyone else has the same problem...

I recently got a new HP Laptop. I did buy it on E-bay, but it came brand new, in the original packaging.

So my problem is that when I try to listen to audio, it will start out fine and then kind of pop in and out and become very distorted like I'm listening to record player and not a computer. This happens with every audio I listen to, whether it's on an mp3 on my hard drive, or a movie on you tube, it doesn't matter. It also doesn't matter whether I'm wearing headphones or just listening to the computer stereo. The distortion is the same.
I've reinstalled drivers to both the stereo and the headphones, so I don't think that's the problem, but I could have done something wrong there. (However, more than half the time the drivers fail to install. I don't know what's up with that.)
I have heard that electronic distortion can mess with your speakers, but I have no other electronics in the room.
I have also heard that it could be caused by a conflict in the computer speaker and device volume, but I've checked that as well to no avail.

I believe this happened soon after I restored my computer from some nasty malware, but it could be that I just hadn't noticed it before then or attributed the distorted to a bad internet connec... Read more

Ever since I built my computer 2 years ago, it has suffered on and off from this same problem.

When watching youtube, listening to iTunes, or playing a game through Steam sometimes it will begin to lag. The lag seems to come in waves, and causes my mouse and whatever is on my screen to lag. What's odd is that it lags in time with loud audio distortions from my speakers, which sound like 'bzzt' noises. Whenever this happens I check the Windows Task Manager Performance, and the CPU usage spikes in time with the noises.

The error is very jarring and game breaking, and often persists indefinitely. For youtube videos, if this error occurs I usually either have to try and get through the lag, or just give up (usually the latter.) With games, if I set Steam to offline the error still occurs, but much less frequently and is more likely to stop.

The error seems linked with my internet - when the internet seems to be fast this won't happen at all, but when it's slow it happens almost constantly to the point I can't watch videos, play games online (Guild Wars 2 won't connect at all without this problem occurring).

I've checked the power supply (no problem), temperature (doesn't seem to be a problem), the fans are all plugged in, drivers are all installed, antivirus scans (Microsoft Security Essentials numerous times, and sometimes Malwarebytes - both on normal and Safe Mode to no result), defrag, uninstalled many programs, and monitored what programs open at start up.

Hey all.

I apologise if this is in the wrong section - I did look through each of the categories and deemed this one to be most appropriate.

The problem:

I've had my custom built PC for roughly a year now. Everything was working swimmingly until about August this year. After about an hour of the computer being booted - sometimes less - whenever I proceed to refresh a Google Chrome tab, the system jitters for a second and causes any audio (be it Spotify, Skype, game audio) to have an awful amount of distortion (As if someone is scratching on a record). The CPU usage spikes to well over 80% and often reaching 100% for a few seconds until the tab has finished loading. I should probably mention that this problem also persists in browsers other than Chrome. Tested on IE, Firefox and Opera. They all experience the same issue.

This will indefinitely happen whenever I boot the computer; to the point where using it for more than 30 minutes becomes rather frustrating.

I had experienced this sort of audio distortion - just without the CPU usage spikes - early this year. I thought this would just be an issue with the on-board audio. So I bought a relatively cheap sound card off of Amazon. Problem was solved until August. I have removed this card thinking it was the cause of the issue - but with the card either removed or in the computer - the problem still persists.

I have checked the various manufacturers' websites for driver updates. I believe I have the latest drivers for the ... Read more

Hello Dan and welcome to Seven Forums.

Since the audio distortion seems to coincide with the spike in CPU usage, I'm going to recommend you install a free utility from Microsoft called Process Explorer.

Process Explorer

When the CPU spike occurs, if you click the column labeled CPU, Process Explorer will sort the processes by CPU usage. The process using the most CPU will be listed at the top with other running processes listed in descending order by CPU usage. Once the process is known it may lead to a solution.

This phenomena is most noticeable when playing music - but it happens with all audio, whether over the Internet or internal files (jpg). The distortion is random (doesn't occur at the same spot in music if I play a tune over again). I have reinstalled the audio driver but no help. The only thing that works is if I shut down the computer or restart it. The distortion always stops when I do this and may not re-occur for a day or two. Any suggestions?

I wrote a whole thing here and it logged me out when I clicked on send and lost everything, so I'll try to give the short version of this (edit: was unsuccessful at short):

I have had this computer for nearly two years, it works fine most of the time. I use it for many things one of them is to play World of Warcraft and Skyrim. While I play, the system will be okay one second and then everything gets really slow and the audio gets awfully distorted, the framerate goes to nearly 0, and it overall just feels like things are going to explode. The distortion lasts for about 15 seconds then things go back to normal. I play the games on minimum settings and it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Lately it's happening less horribly every now and then even when I'm not playing.

I am trying to figure out what's wrong with an older machine I put together for my dad. It has a ~2.1ghz Athlon XP 3000+ processor, 1GB RAM, and a sound blaster Live! 24-bit PCI sound card. Very unimpressive machine by today's standards but he basically only needs it for web surfing and audio. He likes to use YouTube as a source to learn new music etc.

The problem I am having is whenever audio is streamed in the browser, which as of right now is Chrome, the (flash) playback is very distorted or garbled. I noticed that CPU usage is very high and I've disabled hardware acceleration which didn't seem to help. When audio files are played from the system however, be it .mp3 or .wav the audio is completely fine so I'm not sure what the problem is.

The computer is definitely somewhat of a relic but it should be able to stream audio/video just fine I would think. I am going to try a different/newer power supply and maybe try to find more RAM for it, but right now I can't figure out why the flash audio is messed up.

The desktop uses the Integrated IDT 92HD68E2 High Definition Audio Codec and there is no sound output from the headphone port in the top I/O ports or from either of the two back audio ports ? audio side speaker out or audio line out. I have tested the speakers and headphones on other devices and they work perfectly so either the jack sensing has failed or the issue is deeper than that.I have tried the following without any success:uninstalling and reinstalling the audio codec;uninstalling and deleting the audio codec, then downloading and reinstalling it;opening the Sound panel on the taskbar to see what shows on the Playback tab ? ie:The Speakers/Headphones and Communication Headphones go from 'not plugged in' to 'ready' when headphones are connected to the top headphone port. No sound at the headphones thoughThere is  no change to the display when the speakers are connected to the back audio ports. The only sound I get is from a second monitor with internal speakers connected by a DVI cable. The problem may be related to upgrading the OS from Windows 8.1 to 10 but I can't be certain as I really haven't tried to listen to sound files since upgrading. Any help I can get would be most appreciated.

Hi: See if the W10 IDT audio driver works for you... This package provides the IDT Tempo High Definition Audio Driver for supported desktop models that are running a supported operating system. File name: sp71717.exe If the above driver doesn't work either, there is a workaround that you can try to at least get the sound to work... Go to the device manager and click to expand the Sound, video and game controllers device category. 1. Select IDT High Definition Audio CODEC under that category.2. Select Driver tab.3. Click Update Driver... button.4. Select  -> Browse my computer for driver software.5. Select -> Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.6. Select  High Definition Audio Device (Not  IDT High Def...  this is important.) and click Next.    A warning message may appear,  but click Yes.7. Windows has successfully update your driver software.8. Restart the PC. The key is step 6.

This is a difficult problem for me to put into words, but I am just getting progressively more annoyed as time goes on, so I'll be quick.

Basically, my audio has a tendency to stop working (as in red x over sound icon) at complete random, and despite fixing the supposed "problem" of "audio is too low", it still does this and with seemingly increasing frequency. I have noticed some minor details that happen when this occurs:

1) While inconsistent, it tends to happen right after I open some applications, although this is somewhat random.
2) When it does happen, and I check up the playback devices via right clicking the sound icon, they are completely gone even if the devices are completely plugged in. It's only after I normally click on the icon do they come back after a short period.
3) I check the "Services" and the Windows Audio is off despite the fact that it is automatic. Restarting it only keeps it on for as long as possible until the next random shutoff.
4) It also tends to automatically occur the very moment I log into my account on my computer, so I always end up having to turn it back on.

I am at my wits end here, and I am hoping this place can provide some answers. My computer is a Windows 7 Dell, and I'll try to provide more information if I can.

I AM NOT TECH SAVVY.

I've been having some audio trouble with my Dell Vostro desktop for a month or so. It says audio service not running. If I Turn on dependent services it will shut off when I try to use sound.
What I've TriedSystem Restore (Won't restore)
Turning on all dependent services
Replacing audiosrv.dll with new file from windows restore disk
SFC /scannow (Has a bunch of errors. Will provide cbs.log if needed.

Please help.
Thanks.

A:Windows Audio service is not running.

With all the SFC/scannow errors I would suspect an OS problem.

I think Dell has a "repair my system" option in their recovery. F8 at power on will get you to the Dell restore options.

on my HP all-in-one computer, windows 8.1 was auto installed - the sound worked fine for a day, now it doesnt - also, i cant access the control panel - how can i fix this, and where can i get a free update or audio device?

A:Windows 8.1, audio service is not running

Although you don't have sound, the Operating System problems are really the problem. If you can't access the Control Panel, it looks like the 8.1 has corrupted your system.

This forum section is probably more applicable to your system problems.

On occasion when i boot up im getting a red cross on my volume control in the tray and hovering over it it says the "audio service is not running" but the service is running, i get sound and everything is working fine. Looking at the services i find windows audio service and yep its running fine & set to automatic but there is still the red cross in my tray?

at the moment im having to "restart" this service to get rid of the notification and the red cross but its a pain.

Only happens about 20% of the time.

I have the latest sound drivers.

have done a search but its all about this service failing to start & giving errors etc.

any ideas anyone,

Thx all,
JackDinn.

I'm running Guitar Rig (amp simulation software) on Windows 7, but whenever the application is open it prevents other Windows applications from accessing the audio output. For example, if I have Guitar Rig open I can't play back an MP3 track. As soon as I close Guitar Rig other applications recover their audio capability.

I have tried disabling the "exclusive control" option for all of my Playback Devices in Windows (then rebooting) but it didn't help.

I have Realtek HD audio, and my Playback Devices are listed as:
Speakers - Behringer USB WDM Audio 2.8.40 (this is the guitar USGB interface)
Speakers (Default Device) - Realtek High Definition Audio
Realtek Digital Output
Realtek Digital Output (Optical)

I'm using the ASIO4ALL driver for the USB guitar interface.

Can anyone tell me how/if I can share audio between Guitar Rig/ASIO4ALL and other Windows applications?

A:Windows audio not available to other apps when running Guitar Rig

Your also cross posting here Windows audio not available to other apps when running Guitar Rig
since it is a native instrument program you may be better sticking with that thread.

Hey,

I am having two issues, small but irritating; once I boot into Windows, my audio service is not running, it is set to automatic and it needed to be manually started (I have tried reinstalling my audio drivers)

I am also having issues with my network, my connection is "identifying" until I launch an application such as Spotify.

I hope this image can assist you in some way along with an ipconfig /all dump.

First thing I would try would be sfc/scannow to see if any system files have become corrupt.

Click start and type cmd, right click cmd and run as admin. Type into cmd sfc/scannow and enter, looking at your sys specs it wont take long.

I am expat living in China. Yesterday I suddenly received a message that said "the audio service is not running". It is possible that I have a virus because that day I had briefly listened to a couple of audio files from what I thought was a reputable Chinese learning site. I ran malwarebytes and did an online bitdefender scan, but nothing came up. I tried to do system restore but found out my system restore was not on. I've since turned it on.

I've been running Windows 7 for close to a month now and it's been running flawlessly except until now.

I've been having audio play back problems either from Windows Media Player or on Youtube. The sounds become slurry, distorted, laggy every few seconds. I don't quite understand what's causing the problem.

A:Weird new audio problems running Windows 7

I closed bit-comet and it seems to have no problem now.

However if I'm using any browser it has the same problem, e.g. when i click on a link and it goes to a new page or opening the browser. Pretty much surfing seems to lag/distort any audio being played.

I don't have the problem with other windows applications like browsing through folders or opening/closing them.

Any ideas?

Hey everyone, so i come home one day and turn on my laptop, i go to play some music and i realize nothing is playing. I look at the speaker icon and it has a white x in a red circle over it. I tried to open the settings but it kept saying "one or more audio services are not running." So i tried enabling "Windows Audio" in the services.msc, but all it says is "Windows could not start the Windows Audio service on Local Computer, Error2: The system cannot find the file specified." So i assumed that there were no output devices that were recognized by my laptop. But then i realized that everyday for the past year I have been listening with the same headphones, so how could this happen out of the blue? I look on skype settings for example, and there are no speakers recognized, (not in the drop down box), and no mic etc. I am really worried, and this has happened before, and the company changed my motherboard. Although now I do not have warranty so i am nervous. I am just so confused as to how this could happen so randomly. Oh and I also tried updating my drivers from dell.support website, and nothing seems to work. Please help if possible, Thanks alot.

PS: please be very specific, because I am alright with computers but the simpler the better, Thanks.

A:The Audio Service is not running, Alienware M14x Windows 7 64-bit

Please fill in your specs for future reference.
First of all, I would recommend trying a system restore to a date before the problem appeared.
If that does not work, try right clicking My computer->Properties->Device Manager and see if there any driver that is showing with an exclamation mark. If so, please post the error code and the Hardware ID that you can find by right clicking the driver, going to Properties->Details and choosing "Hardware IDs" from the dropdown menu.
Also, try going intro Control Panel -> Sound and see if your speakers/headphones are recognized there.

Ok. So I've been running my desktop on Windows XP with no problems for almost a year now. Last night, I decided to reformat and install Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Now, I can't get the audio to work. I have no sound at all. I tried the Foxconn website, none of the sh*t there helps. Either that or they're not working. I'm no computer genius but I'm guessing I need to find a suitable driver for the onboard audio. I tried downloading the latest realtek driver/software but still nothing. I'll appreciate any help or suggestions! Thanks in advance!

Turned everything off, even a bunch of windows services and removed the malware, but now I can't turn the audio back on. The services show a bunch of different errors.

When I try to turn the service on

Hello and welcome theone mat try running this - you will need to make a bootable disk though Download Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10

You might even try these if you haven't already - just to eliminate stuff
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2

then these - I know you have cleared the malware but these take only a few minutes to so

http://www.superantispyware.com/
http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/
ADW download from bleeping computer delete any rubbish found with the malware scans
(NB If one is running Kaspersky security it may rant about ADW - just ignore it or disable Kaspersky while the ADW is being used)

What you don't want to hear. Most of these have required a reinstall. I've seen quite a few and users have tried many things but in the end it took a reinstall.

Whatever reinstall procedure Toshiba has, would be my recommendation. Back up your user data (pictures, music, word files, etc) to some other media before the recovery as that is deleted on most recoveries.

I tried starting it using services.msc, but when I try to, it gives me error 1297: "A privilege that the service requires to function properly does not exist in the service account configuration."

A while ago, my PC was having some lag issues that made the computer practically unusable. I found out in msconfig that I had almost all services running. I disabled many of the services, and I made sure not disable the necessary ones (i.e, Windows Audio.) I restarted my computer and there was a red circle with a white "X" over the audio icon. I clicked on the icon. A window named "Playing Audio" opened. On the window was a bar similar to the one shown while loading/downloading something. Above the bar said "Detecting Problems" and then "Scanning for hardware changes...". This went on for about 10 seconds. After this, the window changed. At the top in blue was "Troubleshooting has completed". Under that was "The troubleshooter made some changes to your system. Try attempting the task you were trying to do before." In the center of the window was "Problems found-Hardware changes might not have been detected".
In the search bar, I typed "Manage audio devices". When I opened it up, the window told me that there were no audio devices installed. I have checked in Device management under "sound, video and gam... Read more

The first thought, have you tried reinstalling the Sound Drivers? either from the motherboard vendor or if you have RealTek you can get the latest from RealTek and install that.

Hello All!!

I have seen similar threads here but my problem is slightly different.
I have ASUS P4S8X-MX which have built in audio of Realtek AC'97 .
I am using Windows XP SP2 for quite a time and everything was fine unless i tried to install an updated driver for my sound. After updating, i got Code 10 error , device cannot start.
I uninstalled the drivers, Restart my PC and then installed my previous version of drivers.
Everything was fine and i can see volume icon in task bar. But when i tried playing an audio file there wasn't any sound. I clicked volume icon to raise it but it was disabled.
I double click it to open Mixer .. there are only 3 options (normally it use to have lot ..wave,speaker,etc..) Now it has only Wave , SW Synth, CD Player.. and No recording device.

I did try re-installing the drivers again and again but no LUCK..

I tried using Drivers Sweeper to remove the tracks .. doing that in Safe Mode and then again Installed Old drivers. It all go well but in the end its same situation with sound disabled.

I don't want to reinstall my Windows , is there any way to fix it ?

One thing i noticed is every time I install drivers the sound manager shows up at task bar but in moments it disappears while the soundman.exe is running in Processes and I can't find it in Control Panel as well (where it use to be) .

Its been 8 hours since I am struggling with that. But No LUCK!

A:Realtek AC'97 audio - drivers installed properly & services running but no audio

Hi muazzam

Is best to upgrade to SP3 (if only because MS has dropped support for SP2) but can start, for now, looking at your problem while you continue running with SP2

Let's start with these initial steps
1) List any Problem Devices

Make sure all your devices are connected and powered on
Click Start->Run, enter: msinfo32. Click the + sign next to Components to expand it
Click Problem Devices. Anything appear?
If yes, click on it, Ctrl-A to select all, Ctrl-C to copy it, Ctrl-V to paste into next post
2) Generate and attach a DirectX report

click Start->Run, enter dxdiag
Notice progress in lower left window corner
When done, click Save Information button and save to your Desktop
In TechSpot, use the paper clip icon to attach the report. (If you don't see icon you may need to first click Go Advanced)
3) If there were no Problem Devices (step 1 above) then also check on your Windows Audio service if Status=Started and StartupType=Automatic

I'll have a look and we can take it from there

Windows Distortion

I have a Monorail PC with a Celeron 366mhz, and windows 98. I recently had to format the hard drive and reinstall windows. But now certain icons and ALL pages on the internet are distorted(in firefox and IE). I ran windows update and updated the moniter driver, but all my attempts have failed. I have also checked the pixel settings and color settings. It has intergrated graphics and has worked perfect before. My father uses this computer often, so any help would be much appreciated...

Every time my windows 7 boots there is somewhat of a heavy distortion in the screen. ie when the screen "Windows is starting" appears there is a distortion.

It started with a 7 update. One particular update took more than 2 hours to install when I shut my machine down. Understandable I was annoyed and removed the battery to force it to power off (its my lap top btw). After that every time I boot I find this distortion.
But from there on windows works normally.

A:Windows 7 distortion before start up

Do a System Restore. The update should have created a restore point at the beginning of the update. Be sure to note any other changes listed in the restore wizard, so that you can deal with them separately. After the restore, run the update again, and hopefully it will work better this time.

so, i recently upgraded my computer from windows 7 7100 to the new windows 7 ultimate. now, the problem that i am having ( that DID NOT accure while using build 7100) is that whenever i am otrrenting or even loading a page, my sound will get distorted untill the page is loaded completely. with torrenting, it lasts forever, it might even get to the point where my mouse takes time to to even respond to what im doing. so, i was wondering, does anyone know why my sound gets distorted whenever i am using the internet, it gets annoying because i like to listen to music alot, lol

5.50 gbs of ram
and other stuff that makes a computer go lol, just tell me what you need

A:Windows 7 Sound Distortion

I thing the torrents may be causing you problems.

TSF rules prohibit help where torrents are involved.

I would say to un-install your audio drivers, re-boot. if no-go, make sure you have the most recent version from the audio manufacturer's site.

I must now close this thread.

A:windows 7 sound distortion

Hi

Have kind of the same problem. Have installed windows 7 RC and only have static noise when any sounds are played, systemsounds and everything else. I can lower the sound and it's if i hook up it through SPDIF toslink to my reciever I get the same noise so it's not the jack. It's the same if i have windows drivers or Realteks.

I have Realtek ALC883 and have installed version 2.28 HD Audio Codec Driver. I looked in device section and verified that its the right driver installed. I've tried testing different settings in the Realtek controlpanel but it's the same, nothing changes.

Does anyone else have similar problems or a solution?

I have an Acer Aspire Laptop 57362-4790 running Win 7 with all the latest updates. Audio is an Intel(R) High Definition Audio HDMI, and Realteck HDMI.

Because I had no headphone output with the computer connected to my TV via the HDMI out I ran the Windows audio trouble shooter. I got a messaage "non standard audio detected" and Windows did something. Now my headphone jack works, but I have no audio on the TV from the HDMI connection.

I've checked both the Intel and Realtime audio controlers and gotten the message, "Device working properly."

I've searched both Intel and Realtime for new drivers and gotten the message, "Best driver already installed."

Opening sound, clicking on playback, clicking on configure, selecting speaker and clicking on test gives test tones out of both the left and right speakers on the TV. Going back to the web, still no sound!

Does anyone have any idea what Windows did and more importantly how do I undo it and get sound back on the TV through the HDMI connection?

Thanks for looking at this story, and any help you can give.

A:No HDMI audio after running Win 7 audio trouble shooter

Use the System Restore function and restore the PC back to a date PRIOR to whatever you did. That should return it to how it was configured. System Restore can be accessed from Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools. System Restore will not delete any user data or emails.

FOUND A FREEWARE (yes actually free, no ******** oh it's freeware until you've downloaded it then you find you actually need to pay to unlock the features you wanted) UTILITY CALLED MEDIACODER THAT DID WHAT I NEEDED.

Hi. Well basically what I was wanting to do was take a sample of some of the audio from a video file playing in Windows Media player to use in some music I'm making. (Purely for my own amusement, not for sale, no copyright infringement etc etc).

I have Ableton 5.02 and an M-Audio Firewire 1814 external soundcard. I foolish assumed there would be a setting in Ableton to simply monitor the output from WMP and record it direct. Apparently there is no such setting which surprises me somewhat. You can only monitor inputs from the soundcard. In effect I would be wanting to select the output of the soundcard to actually record what I'm hearing playing WMP on my speakers. Ableton told me it was only possibly with an extremely complicated workaround.

I did try simply plugging jack leads from the output to one of the inputs but the sound is distorted in a metallic manner. I have no idea why that is so what I decided was there has to be a simple way to left segments of audio from a video file.

I can't think how you can do it with WMP, so is there a simple piece of shareware/freeware I can use to take audio from video files? I don't want the whole of the audio I simply want a portion of it, preferably as a .WAV file of good quality. Surely ... Read more

I'm not sure where to start but when starting up my computer the Windows logon chime distorts in kind of a digitized way. I was having issues with videos freezing and the sound being slow and similarly distorted and both started occurring about the same time.

I've went through and disabled all unnecessary startup items and my computer is running better and i haven't had a video freeze up since then.

any thoughts?

Hey everyone,

I've started having an issue with my computer about two weeks ago, and havent been able to figure out what the problem is.

The computer boots up like normal, and will remain normal for a short while, but gradually the screen starts to get distorted with colorful confetti like blocks that kind of jitter and bounce from time to time. It always starts out slow, but gradually takes over the whole screen, and freezes up the computer completely.

I've tried reinstalling video drivers, and directX. I've also tried doing a diagnostic boot, and disabling all kinds of things, but I'm not really seeing too much luck.

Here is a picture of what is going on. I had to take it with my camera, cause when you do a screen capture I run out of time and can't save the file before the computer stalls.

I'm hoping that the problem is not my hardware, the videocard is only about a year old. It's a nVidia Ti46000.

Hopefully someone knows what's going on.. .cause I don't. Any help you can provide would be totally crucial! Thanks!

Hey, all. First time posting, so I hope this is the right sub to ask in.

I've been having a weird problem with Windows where many colors are not treated correctly. Here are some screenshots:
http://postimg.org/gallery/1bdo267o4/

Before you ask, I've:
-Determined the problem is not the graphics card or monitors.
-Uninstalled and reinstalled display drivers (although I might have done so incorrectly)

Any help or suggestions is appreciated!

Heya! ok heres my problem.. My Computer running windows XP is having a weird issue when i boot the system up the screen is distorted (not fuzzy) the win xp logo kinda phases to the left and right? if that makes sence.. but you see little lines distorting all over ;/.. Also it wont boot up.. Out of the 15times (sh) ive booted the PC trying to figure out my problem it actualy went all the way to the desktop (after logging in) but then a few minutes later I got the Blue screen of death... Also it Does work in Safemode for the most part.. but i still have the distorting lines ect.

Im running Windows XP SP 3
Motherboard: asus
Graphics card: Nvidia 8500GT
250Gig Hard drive
Duo 2.33 CPU

I know its not specific at all.. not home right now but il post on here when i get home with the exact specs :)

More info: The computer was running just fine last night on World of warcraft ect.. But when I went to shut it off it had "windows updates" so I hit shutdown and it installed them so i just went to bed whil it did that.. Woke up to turn on the comp and all this happened :(

Any help..Any help at all would be great! Icant afford to buy another comp or a new Hard drive..which im praying its not that.

I was thinking the Graphics card just died.. but I have no clue.

A:Video Distortion & Windows wont boot

Well originally I was thinking video card also, but since you say that there was an update that may not have installed correcty, enter Safe Mode by pressing the F8 key repeatedly immediately after Power On, and at the menu select "Use Last Known Good Configuration".

Report results.

If that fails, try to get into basic Safe Mode and report results.

Try another monitor to make sure that it's not the monitor going bad.

Hello all,

Let me first start off by saying I'm a very advanced PC user, so no need to dumb anything down unless otherwise stated. Here is a list of my hardware:

EVGA 790i Ultra SLI Motherboard (onboard sound disabled)
Intel Core2 Quad Q9650 @ 3.0GHz
4GB Corsair Dominator DDR3
Two EVGA 9800 GTX+'s currently not in SLI due to bug being mentioned.
Creative X-Fi Elite Pro
Operating on Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Now onto the issue. I recently purchased the remnants of a friend's PC after he upgraded, he assured me everything was in working order and he had no trouble and his word rang true. The only issue he claimed to have was in a strange combination of attempting to run World of Warcraft and Skype at the same time while SLI was enabled. I unfortunately have had worse luck with SLI. Upon enabling it and starting any 3D heavy application or game, a strange crackling begins to occur whenever anything even slightly bass heavy plays, and then grows worse from then onward. I've first tried the simple stuff, reseating cards, dusting them off, making sure they don't share any power leads with one another. Then went on to more advanced stuff, downloading Daniel K's (if that's his name, can't remember) 2.0 Support Pack for the creative cards on Vista/7. It didn't do anything to improve it. My friend said he never had an issue like this, but he was using a Razer soundcard I had given him for his birthday at that time. That is why I'm confused as to if it is a hardware or softw... A:Another sound crackling/distortion issue under Windows 7 x64

An update for something I just attempted, which was to swap the video cards in the event that was an issue, same result. An added symptom I forgot to mention was that if I let it go on long enough, the crackling and distorting will eventually force all sound to quit, or only stick to the left channel.

Windows XP, Media Player 10 - when I burn my family's old VHS videos using a standalone Panasonic DVD burner (DMR-E20), the resulting discs play great on any standlone DVD player and TV. However, when I use my Sony desktop to play them back using Windows Media Player, I get a thin video distortion line along the bottom of the screen. This occurs on any computer I use, not just the Sony (also happens on a Gateway and Dell). Thus, the problem does not appear to be with my computer or my burner since the DVD discs play great in standalone players, i.e. there is no distortion line. By the way, when I play a regular movie, not a home made burned one, on my computer using Windows Media Player there is no distoriton line. Help!!!! Is there any way to fix this problem. Panasonic tech support has been useless, saying the problem cannot be with their burner, it has to be with my computers.

A:Windows Media Player Video Distortion

Is it thin, like less than 10 pixels thick all across the bottom that has all the colors of the image on the screen just above but they seem tilted and they swirl just a little bit? If so, that's a property of some old VHS tapes where the magnetic edge is not perfect and distorts. Sometimes in video there is also an additional data stream of info sent along the edges so most DVD players compenste for that and overscan (zoom) slightly so that it doesn't show.

Its still there, just not showing like it is on your computer playback display. Its a normal artifact, I edit some old VHS videos on the computer and I very often have to zoom 3 or 4% to get rid of that squiggly edge.

If that's not it, I dunno.

I am brand new to the forum.

I am running IE 8 on a Windows 7 Professional system.

IE started running invisible audio ads in the background today.

Eventually it seems IE builds up to a critical mass of memory usage and it stalls and i have to restart it.

I can't find any processes in Task manager to kill that stops the ads other than IE itself.

Can anyone assist?

Thanks
