Hi everyone, I hope someone can help me with this.
My Levono G580 has been working ok but tried to turn on this morning and nothing happened. I've just got home and tried again but still nothing.
I've had a look on a few sites after googling my issue but the only thing I could find is to press the power 10 times and hold it in on the last press for 30 seconds or to remove the battery and try with just the psu but nothing.
Any ideas guys?
Thanks

A:Levono G580 dead

I've just heard the power supply giving off really faint buzz like a second hand on a clock when it's plugged into the laptop, still no power though

My daughter's G580 shows no signs of life. No lights of any kind. I tried the "remove battery and charger cord, press the power button once per second 10 times and then hold for 30", but it made no difference. I tested the the P/S and it's putting out a solid 20.5v. I removed the keyboard and the keyboard bezel and removed the power jack/USB board and checked continuity through the board. Everything seems okay. Is there anything else I could check? I'd hate to think the motherboard is shot. Thanks!

A:G580 Completely Dead

I have the same problem same laptop model, G580. I did the same troubleshooting pressed the power button 10 times with 1 sec interval in between then pressed and hold for 30 secs.  Somehow the cpu fan starts to run for like 3 secs then went off. Now Im back again with the same problem, no response at all.

I bought a Lenovo g580 model 2689 laptop back in august, and it has now stopped working. Whenever I try to switch it on, lights come on, it makes booting noises, the fan works, but nothing happens, just a black screen. I know the monitor works because it has turned on once since I've had this problem. Please help, I have a presentation next week and can't access my work!

Hey, I'm currently using a G580 Lenovo laptop. One day I played my laptop and supricely it just turned off, so I turned it on again and once I typed my password to access the PC it turned off again, so I got the battery out the PC and waited five minutes, after I got the battery back I pressed the power button and nothing happened, no lights, no noice, nothing, just not turning on. I tried to find my problem on the internet and I found a youtube video how to fix that: get your battery off with your charger, press the power button 1 minute, get back the charger into the pc and press the power button and ta-dam! It's working. Well no, I did everything and it didn't solve my problem. Any ideas?

You need a tech to assess it. Impossible to troubleshoot without doing tests and observing.Eg. Fan - starts up, continues after boot up runningPower adapter voltage etc or other power issues. Air flow and likely more.

Hi,
My daughters laptop has me baffled. It started with a blank screen issue, which I solved with a system restore. (theres was nothing of importance on the hard drive) I did try taking the battery out and after replacing holding the start button for 30 seconds first.
All appeared fine untill I shut it down. There was a massive 186 windows updates to do, which was expected after rolling back so far...
The issue now is a I get this message on the screen "failure to configure updates, reverting changes. do not turn off you computer. I get stuck with this screen with no change, I even left it over night.
I haven't managed to find the safe boot option with this Win 8 machine, I tried the F8 key on start up but no joy.
Has anyone solved this problem before?
Thanks in advance
Marty

This morning i woke up and the laptop was completely off. There was no sign of it charging and it wasnt on. There were no lights on whatsoever. I unplugged the charger and put it back in. I took the battery out and put it back it. Still no sign of it turning on or being able to charge. Any suggestions? Thanks

Hi

I got a new Lenovo G580 laptop which did not come with any pre-installed OS. I installed Ubuntu in UEFI mode (I had not disabled UEFI/Secure Boot). Later I installed Windows 7. During installation it asked me to format the entire format as it did not recognize the GPT partition. Accordingly without thinking twice I erased the entire HDD and installed Windows 7. Now I am unable to enter into BIOS

Things I have tried:
Tried with F2, F1 and Delete keys while booting
Tried removing the battery and booting while pressing the above keys individually
Tried removing the battery and adapter, held the power button for 1 minute
Tried removing the battery and held the power button for 1 minute while the adapter was plugged in
Tried pressing F12 and going to the APP MENU but I can only see "Diagnostic Splash" Nothing else and in that diagnostic splash screen I see that the System BIOS is "shadowed"
How can i gain access to BIOS so I can disable UEFI and install Win 7 and Ubuntu side by side

Hey All,
I have a LENOVO G580 2689 Laptop. It has:

Intel Core i3 2.40GHz (i3-3110M)
DDR3 (4GB)
No hard drive
Windows 8 sticker.
I would like to install a 1TG Hard drive. Which hard drive is compatiable with this laptop? Also it has a Windows 8 sticker underneath the laptop but the Windows 8 serial key is not present. Where can I find the licence key for this machine? Are they stored in the BIOS/motherboard?

Thank you in advance! :-)

Hi

my toshiba laptop was dead, the powerlight came on, the hard-disk was spinning but the screen remained blank.
I tried everthing , stripping it completely, trying a new ram and narrowed the problem to the motherboard or the cpu. i.e I can conclude that the problem is with the the mobo or the cpu.
This was a month ago.

Today I switched on again and voila! it worked, the bios loaded! I had removed the hard-disk, so switched it off, attached the HD and started it up again.. this time it didn't work. And hasn't since. I have again stripped it down , but it still doesn't work.
CAn anyone plzzzzz exlplain what is going here?? I mean it started , that means nothings fried, right??

Thanks

btw the fan spins for exactly 5 seconds before turning off.

A:Dead laptop came back to life, now dead again

there is something like a "hardware reset" available on many laptops.
- try to plug out everything except cpu and memory
- remove the battery and do not attach the power supply
- open the lid and hold the power on button for like 20 seconds
- plug everything back in and try to boot
that worked for me for some compaq and dell laptops which did act like yours

my two cents...

I'm going to buy a laptop for school use in college, but I'm not sure how to choose the right laptop, I know that the minimum amount of RAM should be at least 2GB and I also heard that i3, i5, i7's are good to use too. My friend also told me that Lenovo is a very good and trusted brand for laptops but what else should I look for? What other brands/manufactures for laptop are trustworthy? main question is what to look for so that it isn't going to be 'OUT' in a few years. Thanks a lot!

Hi, my laptop runs on windows XP and I'm using internet explorer. I can open the browser and surf the web just fine, but when I get to a page that requires me to log-in I get the dreaded "This page cannot be displayed".

For example, I can surf through ebay all I want until I'm asked to log in. I can't access sites like yahoo mail, facebook, myspace, or the site for my online class at school. I use wireless internet, does that have anything to do with it?

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Dell will soon be releasing updated desktop docking stations that are compatible with Type C and Thunderbolt systems.   These docks may require that you update your system's BIOS and install docking station drivers before they will function properly.   Older BIOS versions or lack of docking station drivers could result in the dock not being recognized by your system or not working as expected.   Once released, these docking station drivers and updated BIOS versions will be available on support.dell.com for supported laptop systems.

A:Soon to be released new Dell Docks may require BIOS and driver updates on your laptop before use!

So after I was directed to the first steps page in my last topic I ran the dds and got the dds.txt and attach.txt. Then I started the gmer rootkit scanner and left my laptop for a while, when I came back it was on a blue screen with a cmd.exe open that I can't type in.
I'm attaching some pictures of this screen.

It's looking like my laptop's gonna need to be completely reset, but I figured I'd see if there's anything else I can do first.

I have a Compaq laptop that has been sitting in the cupboard for the last 12 months or so. I plugged it in to charge it and the light was flashing orange which indicates a battery problem and on further inspection the battery test on the battery is showing no power in it at all, even after being on charge overnight. Does the laptop need a good battery for it to start up even though it is plugged into the mains? Would appreciate any advice, many thanks.

It should be OK if you run it from the mains, I had an old laptop & the charge only lasted a few mins but running from the mains was fine.

Hi!

I was just browsing amazon when a box popped up saying Windows Explorer had stopped working.

Then a blue screen appeared with STOP: C000021 unknown hard error systemroot\system32\ntdll.dll

The laptop then shut itself down and now won't reboot at all (not even in safe mode, last known good configuration etc).

I have a Dell laptop, it's 18 months old, Windows Vista and never had a problem with it before now. I probably did once have a recovery disk but haven't a clue where it could be or if it's still around.

Is the laptop dead or can the problem be solved?

Thanks

you will need to contact the manufacturer of the PC and see if you can purchase replacement restore Disks
as from your previous post - installing windows 7 and 8 you would have destroyed the hidden partition and boot for vista re-install.

Did the laptop originally have Vista on it and then you downgraded to XP? Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows Vista) HP Pavilion dv9000 CTO Notebook PC | HP? Support

But now sure what happen today 10 June,  I left home and came back a few hours later only to find out that my laptop will not turn on. I have followed some instructions using videos from Dell support. Nothing works.
1. AC adapter works fine
2. Removed battery and pushed the power button and tried with direct AC connection. Does not work.
Is there something that I'm missing.  I need to get this fixed. I have exams and assignments that I have to work on in the next 2 weeks and all of my data is on the laptop and I cannot afford to lose my laptop. This laptop was gifted to me. I am currently based on NZ.
Can somebody please help me. Please.

To get the data out:

Remove the hard drive from the laptop (see owner's manual or service manual)
Put it in an external hard drive enclosure or find a SATA-to-USB adapter
Connect the hard drive to another computer and retrieve your data

NB: skip to the end of this post for the main problem!

I recently acquired a Toshiba Satellite Laptop M30X - 118 from a family member. Awesome, right?

Was working excellently until this morning until I suddenly got a blue screen message - it was on for maybe about 1 second, and I only noticed 'kernel32' somewhere in the text, which rings a bell.

So the laptop restarted automatically, and went through the standard intro screen until a black screen appeared and said something along the lines of 'Windows did not start properly last time, here are your options:"

And then it listed things like safe mode, last normal config, start windows normally. So then I try all of the options, but each time, it restarts and goes back to the same black screen.

-----------

Tried inserting the Windows XP disk:

After I typed in 'chkdsk /r' and pressed enter, it started off well enough, so I was hopeful...but then it got to 19% and stopped, saying:

"This volume has one or more unrecoverable errors" or something like that.

I tried again a couple of times, but it stopped at 19%.

-------------

Then, I tried with my recovery disk:

Ggot to the point where it basically said "Are you sure you want to do this, it will delete everything"

So I pressed 'enter', started processing everything then got this nasty screen which just said: !!!ERROR!!!

Then it went to quite a long page which said "Error 29005" and loads of other stuff.

A:Is my new laptop dead already?

Perhaps the hard drive has failed, this is what your check disk would be pointing to.

Unless you can tell us what the exact wordage of the errors were, we may not be of much help. But I would say the hard drive has taken a dump.

How old is the laptop?

I tried to go back to a restore point and it wouldn't let me.

I tried to restore the computer completely by doing a system restore and it wouldn't let me.

I tried to install XP on it again and to reformat the hard drive and it wouldn't let me. It stated doing it until about 44% and then it shut down.

Now I can't get it to BIOS, DOS, or even safe mode.

I turn the power on and it has a black screen, but I can hear the cd-rom drive spinning a little and the hard drive going...

I tried taking the battery out and then replacing it, and tried running it with AC, butnothing happens...

WHAT TO DO?!

thanks guys...

A:Laptop Dead?!

Sounds like either your XP CD is damaged, or there's a hardware issue with the laptop. You can check the hard drive with a bootable diagnostic (usually free) from the manufacturer of your hard drive. You can check your memory with a bootable test that's free from here: http://www.memtest86.com/Have you cleaned the case out (either by opening it, or by blowing it out with compressed air)?Any other symptoms that you can recall?

Tried to install 8.1, was copying file but some were corrupted so it wanted fixing.
Tried all fix and repair methods available on 8.1 USB.
Now it just shows boot screen then restarts, have tried with recovery discs from USB but they give me Error message No bootable partition in table, and it sticks there. From there i have to turn it off then on again to do anything else.

Only other computer I have is iMac with OS X El Capitan

How can I fix my laptop? Preferably with 8.1 but 7 will do.

Hello, you may not have cleaned it out properly, give this a read, Keep in mind, if it was the root kit and the TDDS killer did not take care of it, then chances are slim of getting it out. Read this and check out each step in order , you may have to use a clean computer to make a dvd/cd of the programs to use and boot them to the infected computer. Remove AV Protection 2011 (Uninstall Guide)
If you can do this , you may save that computer.

So I tried to install some pirated software--namely, photoshop and illustrator--and I think it may have crashed my laptop. When I rebooted after following the directions, Windows goes to the login screen but then it randomly pops up a blue screen that says physical memory error looking something like this: http://windows7forums.com/attachmen...e-mode-pls-help-stop-0x0000000f4-img00099.jpg (but not exact). I wrote down the first part of the error and it is STOP OXOOOOOOD1 and a bunch of other numbers.

At this point, I can not get into safe mode either. When I try to, the screen shows the individual files loading then freezes up on the last file which is atipcie.sys (something like that) and it says loading but never loads.

ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED! I tried booting from CD and installing XP (since I don't have the windows 7 cd) and it says a similar kind of blue screen error when it goes to load windows even before the step to format the old drive.

I am going to try my UBUNTU live cd but I'm not too optimistic. Again, ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED. I'm out of ideas. I can't boot to Windows at all...

Oh and the specs are:
160 gb HDD
DVD RW Drive
1.6 ghz CPU
Windows 7
3 GB DDR RAM

I have a Gateway Solo 1150 that is dead! When you press the power button, you get an led flicker on the Battery, Caps lock, Num lock, and Scroll lock. Those all come on for about half a second. You can hear a beep at that instant. The fan also starts to take off for that moment and then quits. I have performed a hard reset with the button and removing the button batttery. I know for sure that is has power. The batter is charged and power is coming from the power cable. I read somewhere else that if it were the processor you would go no beeps or fan turning or anything. Please help!!!
Thanks
Jon

A:dead laptop

One beep would mean it has passed POST, which means that the system has checked itself and seen no obvious errors or electrical failures. That probably means the cpu, memory, and motherboard are OK. You could have a bad hard drive, bad screen or many other things. Try hooking up an external monitor to see if you get any display, next I would try removing the hard drive (usually pretty easy to get to), remove the battery, anything else that is non-essential. If you still get nothing it may just be dead or unrepairable. Any major repair to a laptop is not cost effective, its easier to get another computer. There are adapters that let you attach a laptop hard drive to a regular computer, so you could probably get all your data if the hard drive is not damaged

I have a Dell Laptop I have had for several years now. Many things have happened since it was purchased back in 2011. I was laid off from my job and with difficulty finding a replacement job in my carrier I just went ahead and retired 2 years ago so now I am on a fixed income. The Dell Laptop I have is a Inspiron M5030, Service Tag <Admin Note: ST removed as per privacy policy> and has been nothing but excellent for my needs, it serves many functions I need but it recently this week developed problems. Problem: Black Screen/7 Beeps. It is no longer under the default warranty and I don’t know what to do since I have a limited knowledge of computers. I can’t afford to have it looked at and repaired in a local location and I sure cannot afford to replace it. I’ve searched the Military Veterans websites being a Vietnam Era Veteran 1967-1971 but there was no assistance of any kind there. My question is can Dell do anything to help me out to get this Laptop fixed with no charge?

A:Dead Laptop

Hi WEHILL.WH,
Rather unfortunate you had to face difficult times in your life and now with your system. However, please understand that any electronic product is subject to failure, while a few may fail in the early days, some last for years.
The 7 beeps refers to a cpu failure - I would suspect a faulty motherboard, as the cpu is seated on the motherboard, as seen in previous cases - see this link for more info about beep codes - http://dell.to/1IuETMX
You could download the service manual - http://dell.to/28VFmMB - and reseat the memory modules and check if the system powers on. Sometimes it helps in the rarest of cases.
I have also confirmed there is no warranty on the system. At this point, your option to fix this system is a paid service call. Dell would not repair a system without any charge if the system is not under warranty - this is as per the consumer laws in your country.
Write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Hi Guys,

I've got a 4year old packard bell igo laptop. It's hard drive is dead but I cant open it up enough to replace it. Im not that bothered as to pay someone to fix it.

What I would like to do is get it to be of some use. Iv got an old 20gb ipod which i thought I could use for it's hard drive. Tried plugging that into my PC, installing xp to it then plugging it into the laptop by USB.

The bios picks it up ok but after that all i get is "NTLDR is missing, press ctrl alt del" which I always see when my HD is dead.

Any thoughts at all would be great, thanks

Leigh

A:Getting something out of my dead laptop

Hey,

Unfortunately you can't run XP from a USB device unless you make some major modifications to how XP setup handles USB devices. IF you look in the tip and tricks forum, you'll find a thread leading to a link on how to do this. Look forward to spending 2-3 hours typing a whole bunch.

There is ALWAYS a way to open a laptop. You can find a USB case that will hold the HDD from the laptop and you can then hook it up to your PC and should be able to extract all the information you need. If you can't get it to recognize it whatsoever and BIOS doesn't even recognize it when you boot from the laptop... you may as well just kiss it goodbye. Unless of course you want to spend tons of money on a data retrieval company.

REgards,

Brandon

Hi I have a dell inspiron 1318 lap top and it will not turn on. I have a new battery and power cord. When I push the power button the red light will flash but not turn on. I do know that the old power cord had bad spots in it from the dog.

You might need a new AC adapter
If the dog has been at it.

Try this when you plug power cord jiggle the cable and notice if light changes or goes off.

i have my mother-in-laws notebook. its a Sony Vaio PCG-GR370. she gave it to me to look at for her, because she was having keyboard problems. when i got it, it booted to the desktop just fine but yes, the keyboard wasnt working....in notepad i was just getting numbers and gibberish, i did however have some control of the mouse. i reinstalled the keyboard drivers (even though device manager showed no problems anywhere) and rebooted. now it wont boot.. i turn on the power, the sony logo comes up, and then instantly i get two quick beeps followed by an error message......."ERROR 0211: Keyboard Error Press <F1> to resume, <F2> to Setup." well, i cant press anything because the keyboard is completely dead. so here is what i have done so far: there is no floppy so i tried to boot from a windows cd=nothing, i tried using a usb keyboard=nothing, i made sure the memory was seated properlly=nothing, i checked with sony support and can find no reference to this beep code, and they suggested it be brought in for repair=i would much rather repair it myself if at all possible. i am at a loss, i cant seem to do anything, and this error screen comes up almost instantly. does anyone have any ideas, or have had a similar problem? sorry for the long post, i just wanted to be thorough. thanks

Hi.
I have a HP G62 laptop with a ATI HD5470 and Intel's iGPU.
The dedicated ATI died and my screen is always black (everything else works and I can boot and blindly type my password and hear Windows starting).
Using safe mode (where Intel's GPU work by default) it's impossible to install/access AMD's drivers/Catalyst center; this poses a problem because I can't switch to Intel's iGPU (it's done in the Catalyst interface).
If I completely uninstall AMD's driver in Device Manager and reboot the computer works because it doesn't see AMD's driver and so uses the integrated Intel's but... immediately after boot Windows starts to install AMD's driver and the screen goes black again. This happens without internet connection, so the driver is somewhere in the PC.
In the BIOS there's no video card options.

How can I impede Windows from installing AMD's drive?

Hello everyone,

The search tool on the forum seems to be dead for me, and I haven't found the answer to my problem in the pages I've browsed so far.

A week ago, I connected my cell phone to my laptop to transfer a few files and update some contacts.

Since then, USB on my laptop doesn't work at all. Whether it's the cell phone, my usb mouse or the digital camera or anything else, nothing gets detected or connected.
I removed all USB items in the Device Manager and rebooted, where it reinstalls the stuff, but to no avail. Oh, and the Hardware Manager doesn't detect anything bad about USB, everything seems all right to it.
I bought a Cardbus USB adapter, only to find my laptop doesn't do Cardbus, the slot becomes smaller inside the laptop.
So I bought an ExpressCard - USB adapter. It's not even detected.
I assumed the cell phone had drained too much power from the USB and either a part had "fried" or it got locked by software (but why the hell wouldn't it show on the Device Manager). I connected an external, self-powered USB hub, to see if having 5V "somewhere" might help, didn't give any result. I admit this last try was more of a "hope the magic works" than a very logical thought, but hey, it was still worth trying.

EDIT : I also tried it under Linux, it doesn't work either. I haven't found anything relevant in the BIOS.

I am working on a laptop that was unstable. I'm thinking it is now fried. I cleaned up the registry and had it running smooth and fast. When ever I shut it down and unplugged the power cord the time would change and I did get a checksum bad error one time when I turned it on. THe owner said Windows wouldn't boot up when he brought it to me. After I thought I had cleaned up the errors and it was working, I shut it down, unplugged it, left it for a while and when I proceeded to start it up, nothing. There is nothing on the monitor, the hard disk light doesn't come on and there is no sound. The CD ROM spins and the fans work but otherwise zilch.
Any suggestions? I'm guessing the MB is fried but it is only a guess since there are no error messages.

Thanks

Hi my Samsung NP305E5A was left near a window, when it rained... I realized the window had been left open. My laptop got wet, since then it does two things:

1) Light clicking so9und comes from the left side of the keyboard

2) PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable

PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM

Reboot and select propoer Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key

I have checked the BIOS it lists the following:

Set Boot priority:
1. SATA CD : TSSTcorp CDDVDW SN-208BB
2. SATA HDD : N/A
3. USB KEY : N/A
4. USB CD : N/A
5. USB FDD : N/A
6. USB HDD : N/A
7. NETWORK : Realtek PXE B03 D00

I spoke to my PC repair guy, he is saying to bring it in. Might be HDD and/or M/B. Said if HDD, he can replace it, if the M/B might be able to repair it.

Any suggestions?

that clicking is most likely the hard drive, i.e. the click of death....which would explain the other two errors. Your best bet is most likely to take it to your friend the computer guy; I am willing to bet that you need a new HD, unfortunately.

Hi all

I am new so be gentle

I have two questions,
Customer has a Toshiba laptop that her 2 year old knocked off a work surface. Now it wont boot to Windows Vista it goes through the Toshiba POST. She says its making noises and i have heard it screech every now and again.
I am fairly certain shes damaged the hard drive, but does anyone else have any thoughts ?

Following on from that when using my Plexus USB 2.0 to SATA cable in Windows XP Pro i get the USB noise/ping to suggest its found it and it installs the driver, as it says in the windows pop up bubble. However nothing in disk management or explorer. Now is this because the disk is obviously damaged or because i am running XP and the Hard disk is Vista??

I didnt think it should matter as it should be seen as a USD device from my cable

Any comments would be great thanks

Okay, tell me the worst.

My good lady managed to spill a small quantity of dry red wine on to her Dell Inspiron5000e. Then she did all the wrong things: picked it up, turned it round, switched it off.

Now, it begins to boot up, gets to the point where the white bar marches accross the screen saying "Starting Windows", then ... nothing.

An IT guy at work says that sounds like the Hard Drive is gone which may be the case, but the same thing happens if I try to boot it off the CD-ROM. Would that happen if it were the HD? That would not be good, as there is about 2 years of work on it.

Whatever happens, this is going to cost I know, but forewarned is forearmed. At least I'm hoping I can go into my local PC shop with some idea of what that cost will be.

The OS is Win2k, if that helps

Many thanks in advance.

My wife was using her laptop the other day to play a film for the kids. After a few mins she heard a grinding noise then it blue screened. It tried re-starting and after the ram check it gave the message to repair windows. It starts off ok then says there's no hard drive installed. I have tried the hard drive in another machine and its not in there either so that's screwed. I have another hard drive that works fine in the other machine but if I put it in my wife's laptop it won't work. I can hear it moving though there are no start up beeps and the screen is blank. I cant understand why, with the original drive connected, the system runs through the ram check but then stops on the next screen but when the new drive is connected the screen doesn't work though the new drive works fine in the other machine.

My wife's machine is a Packard bell easy note Argo -c. The other machine is a Notex hi-grade ultimate m6500.
We're unable to use the other machine as the battery is done and it has no wifi.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

sounds like a faulty harddrive - the heads may have crashed onto the disk -hence the griding noise

do you make your self a set of recovery DVDs from the old harddrive - you are often asked to do that when you first get the PC or they are supplied with the PC

a harddrive from another PC will not work as it will not have the same drivers on the harddrive

you will need to put a new harddrive into the pc
and then using the recovery DVD in the DVD drive boot from the DVD and install the software again

Packard bell easy note Click to expand...

some older packard bell PCs came with DVDs - I would look to see if you have those

I have an acer laptop that is about 3 years old. Finally it just stopped working fast. It was a slow downward spiral but I could see the performance going down and the lag continuing to increase. So when I went tO reformat, the laptop is now actually even worse. Barely able to run in safe mode and when I try to do windows update it downloads them but after the install I can't get my comPuter to act fast as if it was brand new. Sometimes the system boot won't even make it all the way to my desktop.

I have geforce 9600 gt and a 2.2 or 2.3ghz dual core. I'm running windows 7 32bit.

Time to buy a new laptop?ram issue? Am I not reformattin properly?any advice would be great, as I know this laptop should have some life in it yet.

Hi all,

I have whate I think is a dead laptop. When I power on the fan spins up and I can hear the disk spin up but then nothing. Blank screen.

I have re-seated the disk to no avail and was wondering what the diagnoses may be.

The machine is an independant build based on a Compal JHL90

A:Dead laptop

re-seated the disc? You mean you unplugged and plugged in the hard drive / ssd? (don't know which you have.)

You didn't change your video settings or monitor settings did you?

Did you update your video driver? (this can cause problems like this)

It could be A LOT of possible different things, it's rather hard to blindly diagnose a laptop that I can't put my hands on. :/

Hello everyone. I was wondering the net looking for advice and help trying to figure out what the problem could be on my laptop when i came across this site. I have a 2 year old Toshiba Satellite A135-S2326 that has decided it doesn't want to start up anymore. I know it has Vista Home Premiumon it but really can't say what service pack is on it.

The problem started while i was using Outlook. It froze up so I shut it down (held the power button till it shut off). When I turned it back it just wouldn't start again.

I read that this laptop has had problems with the pin in the power inlet plug, but I don'r know if that is my problem. I have tried to start it with and without the battery pack but no luck. With and without the battery pack the light for the disk drive always stays on and the HD light only comes on for a few seconds. I can hear the fans working but that's about it.
Anyone got any ideas? I have a lot of stuff for my college classes on the drive in it and am looking for a way to get it off.

A:Dead Laptop

I read that this laptop has had problems with the pin in the power inlet plugAll laptops have a problem with that It's when the DC jack breaks away from the system board. It would be real loose where the plug attaches to the laptopIf you hear the fans turn on and stay running that would not be the problem

Sorry if in the wrong board, not sure where to post this.

Anyways, I was using my laptop yesterday when it suddenly froze. No sound, couldn't move the mouuse,, ctrl+alt delete, nothing. So I had to switch it off. Ever since then, it won't startup for me. When I try to turn it on, the lights come on for a second but then shut off, then they automatically come back on and go back off over and over til I remove the battery and/or power cord. It's also very quiet, like the fan doesn't start (which is very noticeable when it does). Of course the screen remains black, nothing ever comes up.

This laptop is going on 4 years old and has a history of video cards blowing out (which never caused what I'm witnessing now). Sadly, I fear this thing is done for. And if it really is dead, is there a way to save the harddrive and thus its contents?

I have just been given a 3 years old Notebook laptop, model: D400S. It was working fine until the other day. Now when I switch it on more or less nothing happens:

When connected to the power the battery light is green & the power light is orange.
Press the start button & the 3 green lights above the F8 & F9 keys flash once & the mains light goes green for 3 seconds then goes off & comes back orange. That's it!
The processor fan nor anything else works...nothing!

I've tried a different power supply & tried taking the battery out etc as explained in other threads about laptops but the same thing happens. It's not been dropped or banged either. Any clues, anyone?

Hi There,

My laptop was dropped the other day and had since stopped working. I've had it completely to pieces to check for loose wiring etc but cannot locate the problem.

I've had it disconnected down to just the board, fan, power supply, processor, ram and power switch and cannot get any life out of it. Plugging the battery in without the power doesn't help either. The power board has a blue light that surrounds the jack socket that comes on when plugged in but cant get any further.

Any Ideas? Dont want to buy it another board to find out its the power but im pretty much guessing the board's the problem as the batteries wont start it either.

Laptop is hp pavillion dv6000 dv6190eu

Cheers

A:Dead Laptop

A dropped laptop can have all sorts of damage. It could be multiple components. Ultimately, though, you have to start replacing pieces to find out which ones are the problem. That can get expensive especially with laptops. That's why technicians charge for repairs.

I bought this laptop from my mom about 3 months ago. She bought it maybe a year and a half ago. It's an hp Presario A900.
Shortly after I got it, it shut down on me all of a sudden. I assumed it was overheated. Waited for it to cool, powered up no problem. I noticed this thing gets extremely hot, so I got some of those ball feet things to prop it up ( maybe an inch or so)and got a cooling fan for under it that plugs into the usb, since I couldn't find a cooling table for a 17". Last week it just shut down on me again, but this time won't power up. I tried the removing the battery, unplugging it, holding power button for 30 seconds even 60 seconds that didn't work. Tried plugging it in without battery, no power. I tried battery with no plug, nothing, tried another ac adapter, nothing. I also am not getting any lights at all on the laptop not even the blue light that is suppose to light up on the plug you plug the ac into. As well even when my laptop is off normally, the usb powered fan I have under it, still will run and light up, and that is no longer running. I should also mention that this laptop is never moved so I doubt very much that it is the ac plug connection. So I took it apart cleaned the fan and any other little spec I could find in it, still nothing. Then on Thursday or Friday my mom got an email from hp saying the battery was recalled to validate it. I ran the validation, it says the battery is not recalled, but when I check the consumer ... Read more

A:Please help, dead laptop

If the laptop literally got so hot that you couldn't touch it, and you have compared references to HP's page detailing the recalled parts and yours is there, then I would assume you may have grounds for repair/replacement.

Write to HP via email, or if you prefer to speak to them then have them email/write you their action plan for your case. Whatever you do, work within their policies first, if you don't get a satisfactory response from them then look into legal options specific to your country.

What I've written here should not be considered a guarantee that you will get the response you want from HP, and I am not a representative of HP to be able to authorise any repair/replacement. I just have it on reasonable authority that on average HP buy their laptops infor about £45.00 per laptop prior to badging, software, etc. So, persistance may pay.

Hope it works out for you.

i have removed the rom drive, hard drive, & ram. I then powered it up expecting some beep, still nothing, no response from the machine. I then removed the bios battery, and powered it up still nothing. replaced the bios battery and tried powering it up again, but nothing no beeping. should it not beep with the drives and ram removed?? I suspect a processor or mainboard failure.. whats your perspective? what else could i try?

Ok, I do accounting and this is a BAD time to have computer problems. I was cool, tho... you shoulda seen me ---- I have a very complicated tax return for our business and I was ONE item away from finishing it - just looking how to make the right entry. I had taken the battery out a couple of days ago trying to spare it and was running off the power cord and the power blinked. My computer shut off and will not reboot. It gets power, the fans turn on but nothing.

I put the battery back in and moved it to the other side of the office - away from the bad vibes in my corner, and still it will not boot - only the fans came on.

I pulled the hard drive out and connected it to another computer and the data is all still there and accessible - thank goodness! Visions of reentering tax returns flashed in my mind - nasty!

Any suggestions? It's a 3 or 4 year old gateway and no longer under warranty. If it's the board that needs to be replaced I'm guessing it's not worth messing with. I know how to do it, but the cost is probably nasty - not to mention what a pain it is to take the whole thing apart.

One thing I did notice - when I unplugged the power cord, the connector was pretty hot. I have been noticing lately that it was running rather hot and wondered if there were problems developing. Fans seemed loud and never ending, but no weird noises; I never took it apart to check them. I can't remember if it was always noisy or not.

I have an HP Pavillion zv5000
Windows xp sp2

I was online and the laptop and got a blue screen of death
don't recall exactly what it said, something about ie encountering an error
and needing to shut down.

Went to reboot, and it tried to boot off of LAN.
checked my BIOS everthing seemed fine, disabled that boot option.
Tried to reboot again, got a plashing flat cursor in upper left hand corner.
Tried to use Norton Disk, scanned memory only.
Did not scan boot.

Tried to use XP disk to repair, and it came up with screen saying that
it could not find any hard drives on this computer.

What happened to me, is it viral, or hardware. This laptop is only a year old, but no longer under warranty.

Help me please

Thanks in advance

I was wondering if there was any way to revive a laptop that got a little OJ spilled on it.

A little got on the keyboard and some more seeped under the computer. I didn't do anything right away, but looked on another computer as to what I should do. After looking for a while and not finding anything I attempted to clean the laptop as best I could; taking letters off the keyboard and cleaning them, then wiping the plate, and drying the underneath. After that I let it sit. It was on at the time of the spill and plugged in, all the LED lights were on, but the battery light changed to orange. I didn't want to do anything that may mess it up further, so I didn't unplug it or remove the battery or turn it off, and after a while it turned off on it's own. I let it sit for a little longer before thinking it was dry and tried to turn it back on... nothing.

It's about a week after the fact that I'm posting this... is there anything I can do to revive my computer? or is it completely dead?

This started a couple of days ago. First it crashed after 3 min. Now it is slowly getting longer. I did start in F 12 and managed to do a diagnostic boot. There was nothing found. I can get on line and managed to see some e-mails.
My F2 I cannot use because it is locked with a password I cannot find. Tried everything from ADMIN to DELL to my usual passwords. That is an old problem. My Windows 7 CD is in France and I am in Austria. Please if someone can give me an idea what this problem might be ?
Perhaps she is finally giving up after 6 years of faithful help and support

I am typing this on the laptop of a friend.

For my Computer info please look at older posts of me.

Many thanks already for any help

Dear Tech Supprt,
I have a HP laptop that started very funny recently. The laptop will load up to the Windows XP loading screen then it will just stop. We have tried numerous methods to fix this problem including restarting in safe mode and plugging the laptop into the wall. None of these worked and when we took the laptop to Best Buy they said some of the files are corrupt. Is there a way to get the data off of this laptop at least because wiping it is not an option due to the fact that it is my company's main laptop. Thank you.

Have a Toshiba Satellite P205D, AMD Dual core, 4 gigs of RAM, running Vista SP2. This computer has been a cherry running without problems or glitches. Last night I went in, and it was OFF!!, No lights on the front panel, dead in the water. I checked the power coming from the wall, power was good. The computer was plugged into a UPS, Battery backup, and there were no storms in the area. I suspect but don't know that the AC adapter went bad, then sucked the battery dry. But don't know how to proceed. Data was all backed up, so more a hassle than a catastrophe.

Thanx in advance as always

Zalax

Yes that would be suspect that the AC adapter died, you can use a voltmeter to see what the DC output is, this is not a sure way to determine if it is bad, it could be outputting voltage, but not enough amps, this would require you to measure DC voltage output under a load.

Read more

Ok near nervous breakdown here!! ....... Hoping someone might be able to help!
My laptop just suddenly crashed a few nights ago, I thought at first maybe it had overheated but not sure....
Anyway when I turn laptop on I get option to start windows normally or use computer repair.... If I choose the start normally option it just loads and loads for hours and hours without loading anything! (Just the loading icon)
If I choose the repair option then it will go on a repair screen which tells me it could take hours to repair and then when that has finished it goes back to the loading icon for however many hours patience I have to give it a chance to load.......
Normally I wouldn't be in such a mad panic over this but it has hours and hours of work on there that is due to my boss tomorrow!!!! ( etc etc...)
Anyway when I start in safe mode I just get a list of loading system32 things and then it stops at system32/crcdisk...

Have no idea what this means and am completely pc illiterate .... Just don't know what to do ...
It's a Toshiba laptop and OS is Vista...

Any help/ideas would be greatly muchly appreciated!!!!!!!

Also I don't have the recovery disc.... I am so worried that work is lost.....

A:Laptop dead? ...

and welcome to the Forum

You can take the drive out and temporarily attach it to a working pc to salvage the data.

Hard Drive Recovery Tutorial - How To Slave A Hard Drive

You may have to take ownership of the files first: How to take ownership of a file or a folder in Windows XP

. . or, You can use an adaptor like this: or an external enclosure like this.

or, you could use Ubuntu - this would eliminate the need to physically remove the Hard Drive.

You can get it from here: Desktop | Ubuntu

Step #2 on that page shows you how to create the USB/CD.

Once you boot into Ubuntu, (choose the option where it runs off the USB/CD) you can use it to copy your files from the Windows Partition to an external hard drive (Note: Do not copy anything to the Ubuntu Filesystem as it will not be saved on shut-down)

Once you have the data salvaged, You can run diagnostics on the hard drive by downloading the diagnostic tool for the hard drive brand and making a bootable disc.

Ok, so my laptop is 'HP Pavilion ze2000'. Two days ago I used the laptop until i got Blue Screen Of Death. Since then when I press power button the lights on the keyboard just keep blinking and i hear no hard drive activity, just little fan running on the bottom. The screen doesn't do a thing, it's just black all the time unless I press the power button repeatedly about 10 times every 1 sec. Then the screen blinks and it shows HP welcome logo for a brief period. After that i get two options on the screen - [F1] Continue [F2] Setup . I'm also able to press F10 which gives me the PheonixBIOS Setup Utility. So back to the F1 And F2. Basically when I press F1 it pops up Safe mode,Best option before mode or start windows normaly. None of them loads the windows, when I choose any option, the screen just goes black and nothing happens. I also tried putting windows disc and it loads until the words at the bottom say ' Setup is starting Windows now' after that nothing happens. Tried pulling apart the whole laptop and cleaning the dust off, checking all the parts for damage. Tried taking out the small battery to reset everything to default. Nothing helped. I spent about two hours trying to find an answer at google. Somebody must know what happend to my laptop. I need help.

A Toshiba Pro 4200 laptop refuses to work, changed battery and ac adaptor but all I get is the green light for power on and the normal battery lights. The HDD light winks once at switch on and although I can hear The HDD running (not the fan) there is no further response. The CD and floppy lights don't even wink and I get no screen whatsoever.
Am I looking at a fried CPU/MB or both - unfortunately I don't have any history for this laptop as it was given to a friend (you can have it if you can fix it, she was told).

I have a IBM T22 laptop with Windows XP Pro installed. When I push the power switch all I get is a white screen. Could this indicate a problem with the motherboard or could the hard drive be dead or the processor shot? Any suggestions?

A:Dead Laptop

from my experience but not always that usually has indicated that moisture has gotten to the motherboard which can be a bac thing. couple things you might want to try and that is try switching out the hard drive if you have another one around, if its starting up that usually indicates the memory is fine if you hear the hard drive start up thats also a good sign. so you might want to check with ibm about a replacement board. if thats possible.

What do I do? I have quickbooks on my computer which I desperately need and I haven't backed it up in a couple of month...dumb I know. Also I believe my power supply is dying when it is plugged into the wall just happened this morning I no longer have a blue lightening bolt on the computer. Help!!! I dont know what happened to my laptop. When I hit the power button the green LED comes on but nothing else is happening. Neither the hard drive or fan turns on. Does anyone know what the problem might be and if so, how can I fix it.

A:Dead Toshiba Laptop

The problem could be any of about 1,000 things, so speculation would be rife.

But certainly it will be hardware related, and I would suggest that a service call is needed.

The only thing you could try is a reset (unsure if this will have any affect on the power supply) but its easy. Read the manual, there should be a reset switch/button recessed underneath or at the back. Requires a paperclip or pen point usually to operate it.

Hard to be more specific, as Toshiba made hundreds of different models, and we have no clue which you have.
