Q: hp pavilion 15 notebook pc not charging

Hi @ all.I am having problems with my PC. It is no longer charging. When I plug the charging line (the charging wire and adaptor) it is not charging. The orange charging light by the charging port is not coming up. But when I am about to plug in the charger, it makes some sound to show that the charger is good and working well. But if I put on the system, it will come up but the charger and the adaptor is not charging the PC.I have removed the battery and held down the power button for about a minute and it still did not work. Please help. What can I do

We have found that our battery is not charging.  We now need to have the laptop constantly plugged in to make it have power.   Sometimes when we turn the computer on, as it doesnt hold enough power now to go to sleep mode that it has an error message displaying about the battery and needing to do something about it but it always moves to the next screen too quickly for me to understand what the issue is and what to do about it. Can you please point me in the right direction on how we can resolve this issue as it is annoying.  The minute the power chord comes out of the computer, the power is lost. Regards,Kellie Anthony

This laptop is brand new. The past few days, when I plug it in to charge, i get a messae over the battery icon saying "pluged in, not charging". I have read that this is in fact a software issue dealing with Windows 10 and I have tried multiple times to imlement solutions involving the Device Manager. The only thing I haven't tried is actually removing the battery because I do not think this particular HP model can be have its battery removed by the user. I would really rather not have to exchange laptops especially if it is a Windows problem, is there any way you can help?

Hi,I bought an HP Pavilion G6 notebook only a couple of months ago, and I have had this problem from the beginning. I have looked at some other forums and it seems like a lot of people have had the same problem with the laptop being plugged in, but not charging. This problem is really frustrating, as the laptop is plugged in to the power source, and into the laptop, but half the time it isn't even registered as being plugged in. The battery gets drained. Once or twice the battery has fully run out (whilst plugged in) and then been charged to 100% next time it was turned on(???!!!!).Please tell me if this is some kind of programming or software fault, or if it could be a hardware fault. I have run the battery checker several times and each time it has not found any problems with it. As the laptop sometimes recognises that it is in fact plugged in (but doesn't charge) I personally suspect that it is not a problem with the power adapter.PLEASE HELP ME!Thanks.(Sorry for the long message)

Hi, You can help us help you by posting the following information. 1.  The full Model No. and Product No. of the notebook - see This HP web documentif you are not sure that you how to locate the model number and\or product number. 2.  The complete version and name of the operating system you are using ( ie Windows 7 64bit ). Go into the Device Manager. (type device in the search programs and files box and click on device manager as seen in the following image) Expand the Batteries device. Right-click on the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and select uninstall. Do the same thing with the Microsoft AC Adapter device.    After you have uninstalled both devices ,then you can right-click on any of the devices in the Device Manager and select  and click on scan for hardware changes.  When you have done that, the operating system will reinstall the drivers for both devices.

Hi Lordofcyberpunk, Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP Pavilion g4-2212tu Notebook and battery not charging. Plug the power adapter directly into a functioning wall outlet and into the computer. Do not plug it into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source. i have been using this laptop for 2 years i get it from my friend .

from start it always charges battery upto 56 percent.

and i thought that there is problem in the battery cell and in few months battery backup becomes very short.

Yesterday i bought a new battery for my laptop but it is giving me the same problem which i had with my previous battery.

So this is not battery problem.

Things i have tried

1)Removing battery and uninstalling windows ac adaptor from Device manager.

2)Removing both battery and power Adaptor and pushing the power button for 20 sec if there is any residuel current.

Nothing has worked for me so far.

I would be thankful for your guidance.

Thank you

So my notebook suddenly wasn't able to charge when i plug it on the wall. I call the support, they tell me it might be the charger.  I wait 1 week, they send me a new charger. Still nothing.  I wait 1 more week for them to come and take it (they wanted to pack it in their own special box), and then 2 more weeks for them to fix it.  After a total of 4 weeks I got the laptop back yesterday, they sent a paper saying all they did, which included changing the plug of the computer, where it connects with the charger. I then happily plug it on the wall, and guess what, it doesn't charge !!  After 4 weeks of waiting, while a civil engineering student heavily depended on the use of a laptop, they sent it back and it is NOT charging !!! This is ridiculous, i was forced to go buy a 600 euro new laptop (not an HP of course after all this), and i am now fighting to get my right in repairing my 1500 euro HP laptop !! I contacted them again, they said: "we will come and take it again and have a look at it, it will take probably 3 weeks" .  I have never ever experienced a worse customer support or treatment in my life. A total of 7 weeks to fix a laptop's charging problem, when i depend on the use of it every day at school, is to say the least unacceptable. I am living in Denmark, i expect an answer regarding all this from an authorized HP person.

A:Notebook not charging - My story.

Nice laptop by the specs. Did anybody run the battery diagnostic test on it? Not sure, but if the battery is not charging one thing to look at might be whether the battery is defective...tap F2 as you power up or esc and go into diagnostics or use the HP Support Assistant within Windows.

The battery was not charging from new so I took it to HP who diagnosed a faulty battery but wouldn't replace it under warranty as the computer was over a year old (bought it from a friend who never even unpacked it).  I replaced the battery with a generic one but the battery status showed 0% ,  2 mins to full charge even after 8 hours charging.  I tried another power adaptor and cables, another wall socket with same results.  I replaced the battery again with a different manufacturer, rechecked it was correct voltage/model number - same result.  When you power on from the mains it (battery status in bottom RH corner of taskbar) shows 0% and 2 mins to full charge, so one of the statements is incorrect.

CAN SOMEBODY HELP ME OUT OF MY Hp 630 CHARGING LIGHT PROBLEM ?

I dont always know if truely power adapter has been correctly pluged unless I turn it on to see the charging indicator on the battery ICON. Pls, what can I do to show red light while charging?

A:Charging Light Problem- Hp 630 Notebook PC

Hello MG mate a lot of the LEDs used for the charge light actually change colour so say for charging they will glow yellow for example and then green for fully charged.

Now depending on what sort of LED/s it is either means you have to replace the charging one or the whole thing as some LEDs work on circuitry that will change the colour depending on the stored charge ie volts and theoretical available current.

this may give you an idea on what I am saying https://www.sparkfun.com/products/105? &

Light-emitting diode - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Having said all that to replace is no mean feat you need to be able to disassemble the machine and from experience those LEDs are very small. For what it is worth my friend I would just accept that the fully charged comes on if it doesn't well something is wrong either with the battery or adaptor

Oh by the way I meant to mention my Toshiba's show me when power is hooked up too so in effect I have three LED indicators on the machine

Hi all,
I bought a notebook three weeks ago for my wife, specifically a HP 14-an009a. It had Windows 10 pre-installed. It worked perfectly for a couple of weeks, but an issue has cropped up with the battery. When it is turned on and connected to the charger, the battery icon will say "37% available, plugged in, not charging". The actual percentage does vary, depending on use. I have tried all the various fixes (e.g. "Uninstall/reinstall Microsoft acpi-compliant control method battery" in the device manager and battery out/in, run off AC only then plug battery back in, etc), amongst others, but to no avail. The notebook will charge perfectly when it is switched off, however, with the little orange light on the side illuminating. It will turn white, however, when the machine is turned on (but not charging with the AC connected). Obviously, there have been several updates (including the big "anniversary one) since the purchase. Does anyone have any ideas how to rectify this? The battery is OK, and the charger works fine. There is no HP power control software/bloatware on the notebook either which could be causing this. I have changed power plans, and everything that I know of! I can only assume that the battery control driver (after an update) is overriding the charging when the notebook is turned on. Does anyone else have this issue? Please help.

I have been have problems with my DV4000 charging, it would charge only if I connected a external monitor to it, it was using that circuit as it earth source, you only had to connect it with no power.
It turned out to be the AC adpter socket, there is a tiny micro switch inside the socket which is opened when the adpter is plugged in, in my case the switch was damaged and wasn't switching as it is surposed to.
The laptop was taken apart and the socket unsoldered and replaced with a new one, approx 15.
hope this is useful to you all, thanks also to Colin from : http://www.truestate.com/hprepair/ a really helpful genuine Guy.

This is a very common problem with laptops in general. People first suspect and replace the AC adapter, then find out that the DC jack (in the US) is bad. Some of the DC jacks are on a separate cable, and some DC jacks are soldered onto the motherboards. I have a Toshiba Satellite with a soldered DC jack. This jack cost $42. The laptop has to be completely disassembled

I have a friends HP Pavilion DV4000 laptop, it has been dropped but there is no external physical damage, but it has stopped charging in the normal way.
When I was given the laptop it was completely dead, it had in fact run the battery completely flat, a fact that not forthcoming until I had stripped it down looking for any signs of obvious damage or broken connections etc. which I didn?t find.
I purchased another DV4000 off Ebay with a damaged screen, having used the hardrive from the original and connected to an external monitor everything worked fine including the charging, the battery now back to 100%.
The original laptop screen was reattached and all was fine picture perfect everything running as it should, almost.
The problem I have is that the AC adapter will only charge and run the laptop when an external monitor is connected to the VGA socket, disconnect and it reverts back to battery only, considering the screen and inverter are the only components used from the original I assumed that there may be a problem with the inverter, I found another screen assembly and replaced that, and the problem is still there.
I now have Two DV4000 laptop?s which I assume have the same fault, the hardrive & AC adapter are the only two components that are shared, both work very well apart from the need to connect them to an external monitor through the VGA socket in order to get them to run and charge the battery.

I typically keep my laptop plugged into AC power whenever I'm using it, and transport it in Sleep mode with the lid closed whenever I'm taking it on a trip.  The laptop is 4 years old and the battery isn't holding a charge as well as it used to, so it'll go from 100% down to ~50% when it's in Sleep for maybe a 6 hour trip.  I just moved to a new state and left it in Sleep mode in my laptop bag for more than 24 hours, which (presumably) took the battery down to 0%.  Now that I'm unpacking and back up and running, the indicator in the system tray constantly reads "plugged in, not charging" with 8% battery (but it was 9% yesterday).  However, the laptop powers off immediately whenever I unplug it from AC power, even with the lid closed in Sleep mode.  I've tried several different outlets and a spare charging cable but can't get the battery to start charging.  I know the battery is old and may need to be replaced, but I suspect that it could also be a software or sensor failure because the battery drained while it was in Sleep mode maybe?  I've tried a few other troubleshooting steps online (cleaning the battery contacts and reseating it, updating battery drivers, removing the battery from Device Manager and rebooting) but nothing's fixed it.  The laptop still runs fine on AC power with the battery removed.  Any ideas to try before I give a replacement battery a shot?

I have a Samsung N150 notebook with Win 7 starter.
It is not a battery fault because I have checked using a second exact same notebook with identical battery and both batteries charge fine to 100% (fully charged) wthout heating on the second notebook.

However both batteries overheat after 99% (charging) on the faulty notebook.

Never had battery charging problems until a week ago when I noticed that the battery was getting very hot.

Prior to this without exception it would charge up to 100% and indicate "fully charged" - with no heat.

Now it charges up to 99% and indicates "charging" instead. If I keep the charger plugged in after reaching 99% the battery gets hotter and hotter within ten minutes and never indicates "fully charged".

Why not use the other notebook? Because in other respects it is not as good as this one.

A couple of days ago, I started getting the BSOD on my laptop.  It happened every time I would step away from the computer for any length of time.  (My power settings are set for it never to go into sleep mode, because I was told that was what crashed my computer previously when it was auto-updated to Windows 10.)  The error message on the BSOD said something about 0x0000007E iaStor.sys.   I read a bunch of posts on various sites about needing to update drivers and BIOS, so I went to the HP update drivers page and installed an updated BIOS.  Unfortunately, that didn't fix the problem, except to get rid of the BSOD and now it just goes to a plain black screen instead.  It's the same error message from Microsoft, though, when you reboot and look at what Microsoft reports as the problem.   I have tried running the HP Assistant, checking for disk errors, running Malware Bytes and Kaspersky anti-virus scans, run a battery check and another couple of passes at checking for driver updates.  Some of the non-HP websites out there that run driver checks tell me there are 15 or so drivers that need updating, but the HP site tells me it can't find any.   I can manually shut down when the screen goes black, and then reboot, and the computer seems to be fine as long as I'm working on it, but as soon as I'm idle for a few minutes, it crashes again. Also, my battery is no longer charging from the AC Adapter and says it's plugge... Hello everyone!
I got a question about leaving a notebook while it is charging.
I have a software on my notebook called Lenovo Energy Management, and there's 2 battery mode available, the one is "Maximum Battery Life" and the other is "Optimized Battery Health" so I choose "Optimized Battery Health" mode, and leaving my notebook while it is charging for about 5 hours. When I am go back home, I saw that my battery is stay on 60% and it say "Plugged in, not charging". It won't charge the battery higher than 60%, so I guess the battery is limited to 60% from it's full capacity. The question is, is it safe for the battery if I leave the notebook while it is charging for more than 5 hours even the battery capacity is limited?
Thanks in advance.

A:Leaving a notebook while it is charging for a long time

There's enough circuitry inside to protect from overcharging, just don't leave it on a soft (like a bed) and flammable surface (like paper) in case of something going wrong. If you are worried about battery "memory", that is all but eliminated with new batteries but was bad with old NiCads.

My i pod shuffle 3rd generation does not seem to be charging. Where is the correct USB port on my Pavilion, which is 18 months old. Do I have to have i tunes on to charge?

A:HP pavilion which port for charging i pod shuffle

that would be a question you should ask Apple.  a usb device should charge with any port, although some have a + symbol on the port to indicate charging ability. Have you tried charging your mobile phone on a usb port of the notebook to ensure that it is working?

My computer had a small fire in the charging port; the charger is certainly ruined, but my main concern is that the melting seems to have completely ruined the port. The computer itself still works, but there is no way to charge it.

Hello Everyone, I have a "HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC" with Windows 8.1 and is almost two years old.  A few months ago I had my laptop on my lap and it randomly turned off, after turning it back on it did not charge above around 84%.  Every now and then I would plug it in to charge and it would say "plugged in, not charging" so I fixed the issue by turning it off, taking the battery out, turning it on, uninstalling  Microsoft ACPI-Control Compliant Method Battery, turning it off, putting the battery in, turning it back on, and the ACPI-CCMB would update and it charged back up to around 84%. As of about a week ago, that stopped working. I've tried updating the ACPI-CCMB, doing the above multiple times, and nothing works. I noticed the recommendation for the HP battery utility but 1) that didn't work in the past when it wouldn't fully charge and 2) the computer has a 0 percent charge and will not hold a charge, so in the step where it says to turn it on unplugged, my computer won't turn on. After trying to use the HP battery utility a few things happened. 1) I have to mash the escape button in order to access the menu, pressing it when the logo appears like it says does nothing. 2) When I tried to run the battery test, it said 2 minutes remaining and 1% complete before freezing the computer up and after pressing the power button it instantly turned off. I don't know if I need to get a new battery or if I just need to try something I haven't hea... Since a few days, I am having a problem with the battery of my notebook. I have my notebook plugged in, but it won't charge. When pointing the battery icon in the system tray, it says: 10% available, plugged in, not charging.

It started of a few weeks ago when the notifications for low battery stopped appearing (where it normally did so at 14% and 9%). This was not a major issue for me, however I looked around at the forums and I couldn't fix it with the advice here. This also goes for this newer issue. I tried uninstalling the drivers for the battery, removing the battery from my laptop, restarting Windows and reinstalling the battery, in different orders, none of which do the job.

There's no damage to the battery.
When I remove it from the laptop, I can work using the power cord.

I did a battery check with the HP support assistance, and it says I need to purchase a new battery. But I can't really accept that: it can't be that it stops working so suddenly. The battery had an outstandinlgy good lifetime up until a few days ago. I don't want to pay for something that still has a lot of potential to be functioning well.

My serial number is [Moderator edited Serial Number].
My product number is E8R31E#ABH.

Please help me on this one.

Hi @Lewistrick  Thank you for your query.  I grasp that until a few days ago your battery was working well but now it will not charge. You followed some suggestion in the forum but they did not help. You ran the battery test and were informed you need to replace this one.  You are concerned that the test may be faulty and that you do not need to replace it. Here are two documents to help you understand battery life and provides an alternative method to test the battery to ensure the first test was correct. HP Notebook PCs - Understanding Lithium-Ion and Smart Battery Technology Battery information center.  If I have helped, feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below.? and if your issue is resolved please click solution provide to help other people find this information .  Best of Luck and have a terrific weekend!

I had this laptop for about two years then suddenly it stopped charging. The battery is saying plugged in, not charging and is at 11%. If i plug out the ac adapter the laptop will instantly shut off. The only thing is that the laptop fell of the bed about 50 cm tall, this happened 4 months before laptop stopped charging. Also the orange led charging light is constantly blinking.

I work for a computer shop, and we've had one customer with this model laptop/tablet that's had completely unpredictable charging issues practically since day one. We've been through the system numerous times, even replaced both the battery and the logic board, but STILL cannot predict whether it'll charge at any given time or not. So far, the only thing that's generally gotten it to charge again is to do a forced power off/restart, when it happens to have enough charge to do so anyways. Instinct tells me the power management driver has some sort of fault across this line of laptop, since full blown logic board AND battery replacement didn't even resolve the issue. All system drivers are fully up to date, and multiple technicians have looked this device over, we're wondering if this is some known issue and how to possibly resolve it. There is no evidence of any hardware damage, everything suggests this is somehow software/driver/firmware related.

My relative spilled some tea on his laptop. Unfortunately, the darn thing won't accept the AC Adapter. It will turn white, than orange.. and just sit there without actually charging or powering anything.

It says it's there, but it's not. It won't charge and when you remove the battery while it's running, it looses power.

I opened it up and found that area was rather corroded. I cleaned the area with 91% alcohol, but the damage was already done and the only fix I can find is replacing the motherboard. The entire system runs perfectly fine except that darn area.

Is there a way to bypass the charging circuit and deliver the proper voltage directly via the battery connector? or.. is there a way to modify the battery so it'll charge from an external source?

He doesn't really care as long as I can get his laptop working again without spending the cost of the laptop to fix it. I was thinking a battery pack that connected normally that has an external connector for a charger.

I have two problems with my HP Pavilion 17-f010na laptop. I recently installed the Windows 10 upgrade (previously 8.1). The problems: The laptop is not charging the battery. Battery status is displaying "0% available plugged in charging", if the mains charger is turned off the laptop immediately shuts down. When the laptop goes into standby mode (after specified power saver time), the screen goes black (which is normal) but the laptop will not come out of standby mode, screen remains black, the power light remains on.I don't know if these two problems are related or if the Windows 10 upgrade has caused these problems? The laptop is just over a year old and has had very little use, perhaps just a few hours only.

I've been having this problem since recently after I got the laptop over a year ago. Whenever my laptop is plugged in and under a heavy load (Videos, Games, and anything else that puts stress on the computer) It will either reboot suddenly (Instantly go black and restart) or freeze with colored bars on the screen (Multicolored, usually cyan yellow and magenta). I looked in the error log and found this. This is the error that happens every time.

The freezing with colored bars is your biggest clue.

It is probably the GPU (Video Card), go to the manufactures website and look to see if there are any driver updates for the machine.

You said this started recently, Have you done updates lately, maybe the driver update is corrupt, try rolling back the video driver

So my laptop has two LED lights, one in the front and one near the plug-in for the charger. Before it would charge perfectly and both lights turned on, then my charger broke and my grandmother got me a charger. This charger worked perfectly but the near-plug-in-LED light stopped turning on. Only the front one was turning on, but aside from that everything seemed just fine. My laptop requires a 120w Charger and the charger she gave me was of 65w. I didn't know this until about a week ago since suddenly during gameplays it would just randomly stop charging after about 5 minutes into a video game or after maybe 2 hours of just browsing and stuff. I went to a place to get it checked  and they told me it was because of the charger, etc etc. Now I bought a new charger and it's still the same, it charges (even though the battery icon says it's on 84% and doesn't move from there) but it suddenly just stops charging after a while again. The problem with it not charging is that my laptop gets extremely laggy and only lasts about 1 minute before it shuts down.Is it the battery? Please tell me there's another solution... Batteries are expensive. The reason I added so much detail to this question is because I don't want to leave anything out. Thanks

Hi I got this notebook new in November  and in January it died, it was sent to HP and it took them til the end of April to fix it, it was the mother board. The bloody thing has just died again. My oh noticed the battery was low earlie so plugged the charger in but didn't notice it wasn't charging until the battery completely ran out. He plugged said charger in again but nothing, the notebook will not turn on nor does the charger seem to work, we changed the fuse and still nothing. If you press the on button there is a rapid flashing light on the left hand side of the notebook which seems to be the charging light but the notebook remains unresponsive. Any ideas please? Thanks

hello, all... it is in yet another time of need that i turn to you ...my notebook (dell inspiron 1525, about 1 year old) started showing signs that its battery might be warn out - when it was not plugged in with its adapter, within a few minutes it would without warning go into sleep mode and upon trying to turn on, warn me that the battery was at a critical low...

now, today it had been on for a while in a summer-hot room and it was only when i tried to put it to sleep to ~reduce~ the burden on it, the battery light started flashing orange (the warning that your battery is in trouble, 4 times quick, 1 blue flash) and nothing - not turning it off, letting it cool, would make it stop
...it does come back on but i don't foolishly think it's going to last! the battery meter also says, instead of 100%, now 99% and will not go up... (my father's notebook battery meter is always stuck on ***74%*** even if allowed to charge, and it's been this way since turning it on for the first time... so i'm not sure what is causing that...)
the only time the orange light did go out was when i UNplugged the adapter but as soon as i plug it back in, that happens again ...and if i leave it unplugged for too long, the system will go to that critical low situation again and this time it won't be able to re-charge either. based on your experience and expertise, do you think the problem is most likely the battery (and/or the adapter cable? or the a/c connector port?) ne... hi from senior Joan. My led battery lamp keeps flashing. Is there reason for concern?  I am not charging to 100%. Would this be an adapter issue or does battery need replacing? computer is 4 years old and works fine otherwise. thanks much for any help..

A:HP Pavilion dm3t battery icon shows 99% available (plugged in not charging)

If the power adapter is producing the proper voltage and the battery is not charging, at four years old I would suggest that it's time to replace the battery.

If you know someone who can test the output of the power adapter this would let you know if the problem is with the adapter or the battery.

Hi Folks,
I hope you guys are doing well.
I recently upgraded from Dell Xps 15 L502x to Dell's flagship XPS 15 2016 (9550) Infinity Edge Notebook and I'm happy with it.
So, I used my old XPS with the power cord plugged in even after it reaches 100% or until I see the fully charged notification by disabling my battery charging. By that way I prevented my notebook from overcharging.
Until now my battery's health, was good and I haven't faced any issues with my battery. (touch wood)!
But with my new Notebook I couldn't able to see such thing to disable my battery. I have the habit of working in my laptop with the power chord plugged in. But now It kinda worries me, by doing that so may shorten my new notebook's battery life.
Does the new XPS 15 (9550) notebook comes with an automatic disable function to prevent from overcharging? or Is there a way to disable it?
P.s I had a Dell chat session with their expert, He asked me to remove the power chord once the battery is fully charged.
Thanks
Sibi

A:Re: hp pavilion 15 notebook Usb 3

Hi, It is great to upgrade system to Windows 10, but in the same time, series of issues occur, like the USB device issue. After upgrading the system to Windows 10, you find that your USB device cannot connect to your PC. You may need to plug your external devices like MP3, pen drive, printer, etc. to your computer through the USB ports. So it is very inconvenient that the USB ports don?t work properly. Solutions below may help you fix the USB port issue. Since your USB device works properly before you upgrade the system, the problem most probably is not caused by the USB device. But you can also plug the USB device to another computer. If it unfortunately doesn?t work, you can consider replacing the device. Following are the solutions to figure out the problem. Solution 1: Check if the problem is caused by power supply issue 1. Unplug the power supply and charger plug from your PC.2. Restart your PC. Connect your USB device to the PC again. Then you can plug the power supply.Solution 2:The Power Management would also be the cause of the USB problems. Windows is set to shut down your USB controller to save power by default, sometimes it won?t be able to power it back up. So try following steps to prevent Windows from ?managing? power to your USB controller or the devices.1. Open Device Manager.2. Expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers branch.3. Double-click the USB Root Hub device, and click the Power Management tab. (if there?... Read more

My stepson has an HP Pavilion dv1000 notebook. The power supply gets extremely hot and seems to be melting the tip to the plug where it connects to the notebook. Does this seem to be a problem with the notebook or only with the power supply. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

A:HP Pavilion notebook

wow that is pretty hot... does it always run that hot, or does it only run that hot when he's gaming, or watching a movie? could just be a demanding laptop, but then again you could take it to a PC specialist (comp usa or local computer shop) and get the powersupply checked out. dang if it's melting the tip thats pretty hot... My dad's apple powerbook gets up to 75 degrees celcius when he's just surfing the web and stuff, so hot you have to take it off your legs if you don't want to burn yourself. so get it checked out, might just be a demanding laptop.

I also installed HP support assistance for further assistance to make sure everything work just okay. Things to describe here, everything works absolutely fine without the built in Micro issue for Audio device. It is litterally not working to input audio anymore here. Trying to find out if the HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab247cl has an internal battery and what it would mean if and when the battery fails.  Or if it is a replacable battery without sending it in to replace. Thank You

A:HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab247cl

crabman198 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! All laptops have internal CMOS batteries as they are needed to retain the CMOS settings when the laptop is shut down. This is the link to the Maintenance and Service manual for your PC: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04642845 On page 54, it shows the steps for accessing and removing the battery. If you remove the battery, that will reset the CMOS settings -- but you can easily change them once the battery is replaced and you restart the laptop.Good Luck

My spouses laptop which had not been used in months, on plugging it into my router/ modem was working fine, updated Norton , still worked okay then windows updates came down 112 plus 5 optional updates were installed, after doing a restart I found the mouse would not work and One note kept popping up and the notebook kept freezing up. I finally tried to resyore to an earlier date, no difference, then I tried a refresh but that failed with an error message, no idea what it said it flashed on and off so fast I did not have a chance to read it. Now I am doing a recovery using the HP recovery discs, it just prompted me to insert disc 2, on the instruction sheet sent with the discs it says to press F9 but it seems that did not work so tried F 11 and that worked. I have never been able to set him up with his own Microsoft account password, it always rejects it or changes mine, phone Microsoft many time about this but no help.If anyone can let me know what is going on with this laptop let me know, I cannot use it without the mouse although my spouse can, but it should work. Inserted disc 2 and pressed enter but a long list of messages appeared about no bootable device, so now I am really stuck. please help, it was windows 8and the updates were windows 8.1.

I tried to search my motherboard's specification for upgrading the cpu, but I'm totally out of idea how. So, here's the informations about my laptop. Is it possible for me to upgrade my cpu? If so, what kind of CPU would you recommend? thank you.Operating System : Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bitSystem model : HP pavilion dm1 Notebook PC (HP Pavilion dm1-3206au Entertainment )BIOS : InsydeH20 version CCB.03.60.43F.12Processor : AMD E-350 (2CPUs) 1.6 GhzRAM : 6GBSo, I wonder what kind of CPU match for my computer's specifications. If there's anything else you need, let me know. Thanks.

A:Upgrading CPU for HP Pavilion dm1 Notebook PC

Hi,I'm afraid that there is only one supported processor for the laptop. The E-350 one. I have got a DM1 maintenance and service guide and according to this there no other processors except the E-350..

My HP Pavilion dv7-1014ca Entertainment Notebook is running incredibly hot. The fan is on pretty much all the time. The BIOS is fully updated and I've vaccumed the vents and the fan. I keep my laptop on hard, flat surfaces, and yet at times it's almost too hot to touch. the entire bottom section of the notebook will be remarkably hot. Any idea what the problem could be? I've also had moments when my notebook shuts down without any warning for seemingly no reason. Could it be overheating?

Hello, I seem to be having quite the issue with this laptop (apparently many others have this issue as well), I'm trying to get it working for a friend. name:  HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PCnumber:  QA668UA#ABAOS:  Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1 First thing I noticed was that there were zero Windows Updates installed and zero Restore points created. Nothing needed to be backed up file-wise, went to install Windows 10 and realized that it isn't free anymore, so scratch that idea. No audio has been able to play through the speakers through Windows. (though when I launched the HP BIOS Hardware Diagnostic Tool, I was able to hardware test the speakers, and they played audio, passed multiple tests) I've troubleshot every possibility I could think of that could cause something like this. Installed new audio drivers update (restarted, no sound). Installed some Windows Updates. No sound. Installed chipset utility, MEI driver, graphics driver, and display audio drivers. Restarted, no sound still. Installed HP BIOS updates, and HP BIOS EUFI updates, restarted, still no sound. Installed 230 more Windows Updates. No sound. Rolled back audio drivers, restarted, no sound. Installed older recommended audio drivers, restarted, no audio still... Installed HP Hardware Diagnostic Tool (was able to get audio to play through speakers during a hardware test in BIOS). --------------------- That lead me t... I have an HP Pavilion Notebook (dv9724tx) running Vista which, whenever i turn it on, switches on the led lights, the fan moves for a few seconds then everything stops, with the screen remaining black. The LED lights stay on, the computer just won't boot into the BIOS. It is not a battery problem and I have tried reseating the RAM. This all occured after the computer suddenly died while booted, then after starting to boot back into windows afterwards, died while loading Vista. It has not displayed anything on the screen since.

Specs:

INTEL CORE 2 DUO T7700 (2.4GHZ/4MB L2 CACHE/800MHZ FSB)
3GB DDR2 RAM

Thanks in advance to any help received.

A:HP Pavilion Notebook Not Booting

Nice machine and configuration.
I would first try removing two memory modules, and attempting a boot with the third.. then if that doesn't work, change modules until you have tried all three.
It is difficult to trouble-shoot a machine like that... but we are seeing a LOT of ealy failures in the large laptops hard drives from 250 GB to 500 GB, so suspect that your hard drive might be bad. A good test would be to try any other known good hard drive from 80 GB on up to 500 GB... can you borrow one, then try to format and install it.
If still dead when you change memory and hard drive, it is time to get it back to HP for warranty work.
Anything you do that is not memory and not a hard drive will void your warranty.

I'm having problem with my HP Pavilion laptop. When I first got it which is 3 days ago it was fine. But somehow it didn't boot up suddenly. Blank screen, no led indicators, nothing. The battery indicator did light up when I connect the charger suggesting that the battery is fine. When I press the power button it does nothing. The power button did lights up though. I did try leaving it just to see if it actually going to boot and it does, but only after 4 hours. But now it just won't boot. Please help. I can't send it for warranty until next week since I'm away. Thanks in advance.

My laptop was working perfect last night. I opened it this morning and the screen was black and the power button was flashing. Thinking it was dead I plugged it in and the power button turned off. Now the laptop won't turn on at all.The light shows its charging orange when plugged in. When I take the battery out the charging light turns white. I've tried the hard reset, removing the battery, everything the forums have said. The laptop is only 5 months old, but there are no HP sellers near by to help correct the issue.

I want to upgrade the RAM from 4 to 8GB (16 if possible) and upgrade the OS to one with a longer support life - I'm thinking Windows 7 or 8.1. Is it best to do the upgrades serially and which should I do first? What RAM should I buy i.e. ordering info? Which OS do you recommend and where is the best place to buy it and the preferred media. Thanks to those forum members in advance for your advice.butchiepoo

A:Upgrade HP Pavilion Notebook - RAM and OS

Hi, Please use the following manual:     http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01918142.pdf RAM: page 2 gives you RAM specs and max RAM supported. Page 67 gives you part number, you can use part number to order from HP or online stores. Please note: this is an old machine and RAM could be a bit hard to find now.For OS: Windows 7 drivers are available on itshomepage:          http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-dv7-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-series/374... You are much better to upgrade to Windows 7 than others because HP supports it. For OS, you can buy from a computer shop or order from Microsoft. Please note again, this machine is 8 years old. Please do not waiste more money on it. Regards.

Can you log in if you start up in safe mode? (Press F8 on Windows boot-up, and choose Safe Mode).
Did you do something specific recently, like install something or change system settings?
