G580 Completely Dead

Q: G580 Completely Dead

My daughter's G580 shows no signs of life. No lights of any kind. I tried the "remove battery and charger cord, press the power button once per second 10 times and then hold for 30", but it made no difference. I tested the the P/S and it's putting out a solid 20.5v. I removed the keyboard and the keyboard bezel and removed the power jack/USB board and checked continuity through the board. Everything seems okay. Is there anything else I could check? I'd hate to think the motherboard is shot. Thanks!

A: G580 Completely Dead

I have the same problem same laptop model, G580. I did the same troubleshooting pressed the power button 10 times with 1 sec interval in between then pressed and hold for 30 secs. Somehow the cpu fan starts to run for like 3 secs then went off. Now Im back again with the same problem, no response at all.

Hi everyone, I hope someone can help me with this.
My Levono G580 has been working ok but tried to turn on this morning and nothing happened. I've just got home and tried again but still nothing.
I've had a look on a few sites after googling my issue but the only thing I could find is to press the power 10 times and hold it in on the last press for 30 seconds or to remove the battery and try with just the psu but nothing.
Any ideas guys?
Thanks

I have a T40 model, and the last time it was working properly, one of our employees was using a usb device in it and mentioned before it completely crashed that it was rebooting/freezing from the usb device. When i say completely crashed, this mean when I go to power it on 5 of the Light under the screen light up for a half second(not even - in the color green) then flick back off and kicks right back off and goes into a endless cycle of this until the battery dies. You can hear what sounds like the cpu fan trying to kick in and just die in that short time and it does it insync with the lights flicking on and off...I took hd out/battery out and tried othre ones that I know work, and tested those ones in another T40, and they work fine. I'm not sure how to get to the main memory slot so I can try to replace that, but would that cause this ? it seems like something is drawing too much power, never seen anything like this on a laptop, is it possible the power supply could do cause this, wondering if anyone could help ? Thanks in advance

A:IBM T40 Completely Dead

In the T40 the memory is under the keyboard. you have to undo the keyboard screws (I think 5 of them in total underneath they have a picture by them of a keyboard) and pop it up.

Memory can be the culprit if its bad and its pulled it just won't try and boot at all if the same symptoms occur its probably a bad mainboard (possibly something to do with the power). Have you taken a known good battery and plugged it into the device and does it do the same issue? If thats the case it has nothing to do with A/C power converting.

I have what until recently was a rare problem with an old pc but it has now become permanent. It won't power up - no beeps no lights no fans no nothing. I have tried all the usual tricks - replaced battery, removed everything, replaced psu, tried it with nothing in, tried it with a few things in, bridged the power switch jumper. It does very rarely get power but there is no pattern. I don't mind buying a replacement mobo but if the cpu has gone I might just bin the lot. It's a PII 266, chaintech 6LTM mobo. I'm on the verge of getting a mobo from ebay but if anyone can suggest anything else I would be grateful. Thanks

There appears to be no electricity getting to the computer. It is completely dead. It's a Gateway about 4-5 years old. We have tried all the obvious things like changing cords and outlets. The cover is off. No apparent damage. Nothing seems to be loose.

Any suggestions on what hardware may have gone bad? Power supply?

A:Computer completely dead.

Yes! of course a power supply problem. Here's a step by step procedure in diagnosing this problem:

1. Turn on your computer. (ok I know it wont turn on but just turn the power on), check at the back of your cpu. is the power supply fan spinning? If not, then you'll have to throw away that power suppy & start buying a new one.

2. If the fan is spinning but the computer is still 'dead', open the cover & check whether all the power connectors is connected properly. Usually, they're 2 'female' power connectors that must have to be connected to the motherboard (1 is the biggest connector of your power supply & the other is a 2x2 hole connector (a square-shaped one). Try searching for a 'male' socket on your motherboard for these 'female' connectors. Maybe you forgot to connect one.

3. If the fan is spinning & you're extremely sure that you connected all connectors properly but the CPU still dead, Then check your RAM whether it is pushed/plugged properly onto the socket. You can try taking off the RAM from it & re-seat it again & then turn on your computer. Again, make sure it is properly pushed/plugged.

4. If still cannot, try you borrow a RAM from your friends (make sure you borrow a correct type of RAM and it's working well. Then fit the RAM onto your motherboard & try turn on again.

5. If still cannot on, ermm.. I don't know what's next. Maybe your processor??? ... Read more

I've only had this computer for a little over 2 years. I'm using Windows Vista Home Edition.

Yesterday I booted up my computer and tried to log on. It took 30 minutes for me to log on, and I didn't reach my profile, just a temporary one. I created a new profile so I didn't have to wait through 30 minutes each time I logged on, but that's only a temporary fix.

My computer freezes at random. The mouse is movable but nothing loads or is clickable. I sometimes the freezing happens as soon as I log in. Sometimes it happens when I open a program, sometimes it happens when the screensaver is supposed to come on.

90% of the time the orange "loading" light on my computer is on during the lock-ups, but I don't hear anything coming from the computer.

Am I SOL and have to reinstall Vista or is there something I can do to fix this?

A:Computer completely dead?

try boot in safe mode and see if it works, if it does, then put in your vista disk, boot from it and try a repair on windows.

i would also run a scan for viruses

A:Win Xp completely Dead! Need help baaaaaad!

Boot from CD and follow directions below to start Recovery Console.

Insert CD and restart computer. If prompted, select any options required to boot from the CD.
When the text-based part of Setup begins, follow the prompts;
choose the repair or recover option by pressing R.

If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the installation that you need to access from the Recovery Console.
When prompted, type the Administrator password. (if you didn't
create one try pressing enter).

At the system prompt, type Recovery Console commands; type help
for a list of commands, or help commandname for help on a
specific command.

Most likely you will need to expand the file from the CD.
The command would be
expand d:\i386\hal.dl_ c:\windows\system32\hal.dll.
Substitute d: for the drive letter of your CD. Once you have
expanded the file type "exit" to exit the Recovery Console and
restart the computer.

Hi everyone, i hope you are all well. I am having an issue with my laptop.... The laptop is a
Fujitsu Amilo Li 3910, it is around 2 years old

The problem with the laptop is that it has been dead and does not switch on at all , it has been dead for around 1 month.

It does not switch on at all .... i have connected the mains but even this doesn't work.... normally lights come up to show it is charging.... but now nothing comes up.

I have taken out the battery and tried connecting the mains without and with the battery... nothing works.....

I need access to my files..... but how can i transfer them when it wont even switch on :-(

I am not sure what is wrong with it...

I think either the battery is dead or probably the motherboard..... but i am not an expert....
So i hope people can give me advice..... on what to do..... are the files lost forever... and should i just chuck it away????

Many thanks

A:Is my laptop completely dead?????

By the sound of what you have discribed your power supply may have failed. This would have caused the battery to go flat. It would be worth your time to get a (recommended) computer shop to check the power supply for you.

If the PC has died, which is unlikely after only a couple of years, you can buy a USB hard drive adapter from any computer store or on Ebay that will connect to another PC. You then remove the hard drive from the laptop and connect it to the adapter. Then you can copy all your important files to a DVD or save them on the other PC's hard drive for future use.

Hey guys,
I purchased an Alienware 14 about a year and a half ago and i have been loving everything about the computer. It runs everything i throw at it, is made very well and has been having absolutely no problems... unitl now.
I was recently laying in bed browsing the internet, when randomly both my alienware and power cord completely lost power. When i say that they both lost power i mean that my screen went black, the light by the power button that is usually lit up when plugged in had no color, and my power cord that usually has a blue light around the tip to show that its receiving power went off too. This was really weird to me, especially relating to the power cord, because even when ive unplugged it in the past, the blue light would slowly fade away and not immediately go out.
My initial reaction was that my electricity went out, but throughout this whole ordeal i had a fan running on the same power strip with no problems. This leads me to believe that my power cord shorted out while plugged into the computer and likely fried something internally. As a side note, i put my voltimeter on the power cord and as soon as i touch the outside ring and inside prong the power cord completely dies (the light turns off immediately) just like when my computer died in the first place.
Since this happened, ive tried: a power cord from a friends alienware laptop, leaving it plugged in all night, taking the battery out with the power cord plugged in, taking it apart piece by piece an... Read more

The DC jack would be the next part to replace - if that doesn't solve the issue, the mainboard is the faulty part.

Hi all,

I recently inherited a Sony Vaio PCG-FRV37 notebook computer that is completely dead, no lights, no sounds, nothing. I've checked for the obvious things like making sure the power supply is working (it does). hit the reset button many times, and some other misc quick fix ideas I picked up in other posts of simular nature. So now I pretty much have faced the idea that my motherboard must be blown, or definitely damaged (picofuse perhaps? have no idea what that is or where that would be, not sure I really even want to know)
Just not very technically inclined I guess, (probably obvious, I'm sure)
What I am mainly hoping for, is that someone could give me an idea what these kind of repairs can cost. I realize at some point for a accurate estimate, I will have to have it looked at in person, but thats not what I am looking for right now. I just want to get an idea what kind of prices I should expect to encounter, (providing the problem is the motherboard at all) can this be fixed without costing a fortune? Any suggestions will be gratefully excepted!
Thanks, Miles

A:My Sony Vaio is completely dead

Hello! Welcome to TechSpot!

Being you recently inherited this lappy, you won't know the circumstance that caused this. So you'll be flying blind til we discover what has happened and if it can be repaired for reasonable costs.
Most likey the picofuse and diods that protect the laptop voltage will need to be replaced. You'll need all the Sony doc's for this, in order to DIY. Here's a start Sony Vaio PCG-FRV37 Users Manual...
Otherwise look into Sony repair or local repair. I would at least try it myself, were I, you.

Oh god, this keeps happening to me. I've had so many hardware problems recently, completely ******* up a handful of days...

I'll tell you the entire story.
I have a fan on the front of the computer (quite small) that often makes alot of noise. So everytime it makes this sound, I press down on the casing or nudge it (or slap it), and it quitens down.
For the past 2-3 days though it's been EXTREMELY loud, and it's unstoppable.
A nudge shuts it up for a minute or 2, and then it starts up again. It's incredibly annoying...
So I decided to do something about it.
It's a small fan, it appears to only cool down my 2 harddrives and nothing else, so I thought I'd remove it.
Attached to the fan is a black wire and a red wire. I followed these wires back to the source. The 2 wires were seemingly forced into 2 of one the 4 pin harddrive cables (wires:red black black yellow, white plug).
[I should mention here that my computer was built by a specialist and purchased on eBay.]
I saw this and thought to my self "Easy!"
I pulled the 2 wires out and removed the fan from the casing.

When I started up the computer, everything seemed fine. No more noise!
Then I realised my 2nd harddrive wasn't showing up.
500GB of music, software and work. Important work....
I put my hand to the harddrive as the computer casing was still open. Nothing.

It's COMPLETELY unresponsive.
I look at the BIOs, it's not recognised.
I tried it in another compute... Read more

Alright so a couple weeks ago I installed windows vista on a 400gb seagate and then dual booted with ubuntu on another drive (vista/400gb as slave). A couple days later this hard drive just starts losing important files. then it loses some file (can't remember name but the way i understood it it was the file that kept track of where all the other files were something like mtfs or something) I can't restore it or anything.

I figured I could reformat and reinstall. there's nothing important on it yet just music which i have elsewhere and that's about it so i'm not worried about data recovery. I just now had time to do this.

I turned my comp on with no problems into ubuntu and then left it on overnight (more on accident than anything else) I came down around 24 hours later and I hear this weird clicking noise and I figure out it's my hdd (spinning but having trouble with it). So i disconnect the linux drive and start trying to fix the vista hdd (plugged in as master drive). It won't start up I can't even get into a boot menu to boot from the windows disk because it keeps trying to find the hard drive but can't cause something's wrong with it.

This wasn't entirely unexpected we had it in a netgear network storage drive at one time which had issues from the start (including blue screening vista before it would even boot) so this hdd's had a rough life. It's also not a huge deal since I have the 120... Read more

A:Stream 13 is completely dead, no lights or anything...

Hello mrdid, You can shop for a third party battery which will probably cost around $50 US (Amazon).Problem is, it may not be the battery that's the problem. If something failed on the circuit board, a new battery wont help. You would have to have a repair shop look into it for you. That could cost as much as what the laptop is worth in some cases.Third party batteries aren't always very reliable either. My opinion: its not worth the money to fix considering what the Stream 13 cost new. But cost is really up to you to decide. NOTE: You could try disconnecting the battery to do the Power Reset. You might get lucky. If you do wish to continue to do it yourself but have never taken a laptop apart, its not a easy task for removing the battery on this model. Here are some instructions I found on the web that are more detailed than the HP maintenance manual is...https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/HP+Stream+11-d020nr+Battery+Replacement/60204  Good luck.

We have a Dell laptop Running Windows 7 Professional that has been a real workhorse. Just the other day it refused to boot, taking us into the Repair screen. On the repair screen that displays Windows installations it did show Windows 7 Professional (as the D: drive), but after 'repairing' for at least 90 minutes it ultimately said that the computer could be fixed by this method. I then got out my 64 bit W7 Pro disk and tried again with identical results. This time I went to the advanced options command prompt. When I entered D: at the prompt I got the dreaded request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

Undeterred, I removed the drive from the laptop and hooked it up as a slave to another computer. It popped up on other PC as the E: drive, but when I opened an administrative prompt and typed in E:, I got that same I/O error message.

Now I'm stumped. How is it that Windows shows up as a valid OS through the repairs, but the drive is inaccessible? I don't mind getting a new drive and reinstalling, but there's a fair amount of stuff that had never been backed up

I have one workstation here that has now finally completely died as far as Windows Updates are concerned.

I have tried to apply a couple of manual attempts (windows standalone installer) that many have said "should" help with the slow updates over the last few months. KB3161664 is one of the recommendations. The other being KB 3161608 - containing the kernel update.

But this machine will not take either of those. I tried to run the MS FixIt Tool top reset the WU components - it runs for a hour with no visible signs of doing anything.

And of course running Windows Update for the July updates - gives me 7 items - but nothing will ever download.

What's the last resort here now - before I have burn this thing to the ground to get it working?

VP

A:Windows Update (Win 7 x64) is completely dead

Suggest: Stop WU service before installation - also disconnect from internet.

Standalone installers seem to work if WU service is stopped rather than left running.

RE: KB6161664 - that one sorted it last month but in addition this month there is:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3145739
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3078601
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3164033
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3109094

Check if these are installed before going any further. Install if missing. They are required before installing KB3168965

Make sure that this one is installed too:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3138612

Then lastly reboot and install this one from command line (Elevated Command Prompt)

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3168965

start /wait "" "%SystemRoot%\system32\wusa.exe" "C:\Users\Username\Full path to Windows6.1-KB3168965-x64.msu" /quiet /norestart

Edit: After a final reboot reconfigure Windows Update notify but do not auto download settings (reconfigure even if already configured by choosing another option and applying then apply the suggested settings)

Reboot again and run a manual update check.

Hi,

I have SatelLite pro M70 PSM76E, and I it has following problem,
When I try to power on, LCD display is completely dead. I connected CRT and it seems to start ok but when it goes to windows it hangs and reboots after few secondes.
I think it is not problem with OS becouse when I use recovery CD and knoppix cd the LCD is still black. May be it is problem with graphics card or mainboard.

I don't have a disassemble manual to clean my M70 inside.

I would like to find solution myself before going to the service.

Any ideas,

A:Satellite M70 - LCD display is completely dead

If you get a picture on the external monitor but not on the internal, this looks like an FL inverter fault. It controls the screen backlight and must be replaced.

I would recommend contacting an ASP in your country. They can disassemble the notebook and exchange the part. I?m sure that they will help you.

The computer I have been using for 4 1/2 years (an E-Machines running XP) has finally died. Not sure what happened, but I can't even get it to turn on. It's as dead as dead can be.

Being the not-so-bright computer guy that I am, I haven't done a back-up in ages, and I have a lot of valuable info/files/music on the hard drive. My brother had said that I can "store" my files on his computer until I get a new one.

One problem; I can't get anything off the hard drive if it doesn't come on, right? Or is there a way of pulling info off the HD even when a computer is powered down, so to speak?

Any info, links, suggestions, and/or whatever elese would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

Hello and thank you in advance for any assistance.

My laptop is about 5yrs old. My daughter was using the laptop without the power cord and the battery died. When she plugged in the power cord the laptop would not power on. When I try to power on the laptop the charge light blinks amber twice (one short, one long) and then nothing. No other lights, no beeps, no fan, nothing! I have had the power cord tested and it is fine. I tried doing the hard start (or reset) by removing the battery and cord and holding the power button down for 30 seconds and then replacing the cord and battery. It still won't power on. I don't know if this is standard pricing, but my local Best Buy charges $200.00 for a repair! I can't afford that! Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Hi,
I have a HP Personal Media Drive which didn't seem to be working, both when I put it in to the bank in the tower of the PC and also when I connected the USB and power cables externally.
Thinking it was a problem with the actual enclosure I purchased another external hard drive enclosure from CIT. Having connected it all up and switching it on all I seem to be getting is a flashing blue light from the enclosure and the actual drive doesn't seem to be on and isn't making a noise/heating up.
The hard drive is a Maxtor DiamondMax 9 160Gb ATA.
Does anyone have any idea what possibly might be the problem and how I may solve it?
Thanks

I got a Gateway MX8711 laptop, it was supposed to be just missing an HDD, but the unit is completely dead. I've never got to see any indicator light, any whiff of a fan.

Since the alternative was throwing it away, I took the whole thing apart. All I know is that the PSU tests successfully at 19V, no obvious indications of burns or bad solders near the POS, and there is continuity on the board. The highlighted transistor S1040 gets 19V too*. The battery charge terminals give 0.85V.

Where do I go from here?

A:Gateway laptop completely dead, mobo gets power

Sorry to report this to you, but the Gateway Ml, M7, and MX series of laptops from about 2007 through 2010 or later, have a very high (my term) failure rate... the motherboard goes.... Some technicians believe that the motherboard fails because the CPU cooling fan plugs up with lint, and the board or processor overheats... We have seen perhaps 36 or 37 of them... dead and not repairable... since 2007... except by the replacement of the system board... The average cost of the system board is $127 plus shipping...
Others believe the failure is because of the manufacturer who was in control at the time they were built... The problems appears to be the same whether it was built by Gateway or the other two companies who have been in line for the building process. Gateway was bought out by other companies in Korea about 2003 or 2004... a pretty reliable machine until then
I would contact Gateway or a technician who specializes in Gateway to see what their cost of repair is these days... but we are not sure we would want the repaired one either...
A look on eBay will affirm that there are lots of Gateway parts, but almost never any working Gateway motherboards...
You might want to take it to a certified tech who works on Gateway laptops for his or her evaluation...
But your time will be better spent shopping for a better unit.
The hard drive is still good, as is the memory and most other components, in our experience, but it is the motherboard that is the one part that is unre... Read more

Oh god, this keeps happening to me. I've had so many hardware problems recently, taking up all my time and money...

I look at the BIOs, it's not recognis... Read more

YESSS!

HERE ARE MY FINDINGS WITH THE MULTIMETER!!!!!

R64 - 0.3 OHMS
R67 - 527 OHMS
D3 - 0 OHMS
D4 - 563 OHMS

There's also a setting on my multimeter to test diodes, so I gave it a go on all of them

R64 - 0 (BEEP)
R67 - 658 (NO BEEP)
D3 - (1 BEEP)
D4 - 712 (NO BEEP)
WHAT DOES THIS ALL MEAN?
I imagine there is a broken resistor and a broken diode in there.
I think the culprits are R64 and D4.

Instead of removing the components as I've been told to (and replacing them with wire)... Can I just solder a piece of wire from one terminal to the other, like an arch? an alternative route? instead of clipping the whole thing out???

Please tell me the answers!!!!!!!!!
What next!??????

Thank you!!!!!!!

Hello everyone,i dont know why this happens to me. My laptop is lenovo G580 i5 4gbddr3 500gb hdd. It has following config Win10 Win7 Ubuntu14 Default os is win10. I was using windows 7 shutdown lappy and went to play. Now if i try to start it it boots up,lenovo screen appears nothing after that no boot loader screen. Hdd is detected also i removed the battery, bios reset following uefi boot disable. But no success it simply wont boot. Live linux via usb is detected and hdd is also detedcted. Any help. I need in urgent. Thankyou in advance.

A:G580 no os boots

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with lenovo. I'm afraid that you simply need to abandon Lenovo and go with another manufacturer. I have an under warranty G series laptop that lost its boot parameters. I had previously made backup copies of the OS and a 'repair' disc. Neither of which worked. I called Lenovo support and was informed that I must sned them the laptop and only THEY could reinstall the OS. I was also told that any recovery media for my product was 'UNAVAILABLE'. Sad that they cannot simply sned me media to reload it myself. Instead, they must reload it (obviously they have means to do it but simply will not share it with me). I will not ever purchase a Lenovo product and I would advise you to do the same, and advise any friends to do the same. I am doing so and have learned an expensive lesson. I paid more to get Levovo thinking their reputation was one of support, only to discover it is pointless. I should have just bought a cheaper 'non-Lenovo' product. I plan to go on a tirade and post as much information webwide as possible and deter as many as I can before they get screwed over like I did.Sorry you got screwed too,HatingLenoONO

Hello,I have a brand new G580 with 2X USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0 Port. The 2.0 port works fine but the 3.0 ports don't show any reaction. The Harware manager indicates an error for the the USB 3.0 eXtensible host controller but refreshing the driver showes no effect. Any ideas if that is an Hardware- or only a driver problem? Thanks in advanceStefan

A:USB 3.0 ports G580

hi Stefan,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

The USB 3.0 port requires a driver for it to work (unlike the USB 2.0 that is plug and play). For Windows 7, install the Intel USB 3.0 Driver v1.0.5.235 - http://tinyurl.com/c7e7lw6

Let me know if this doesn't fix it.

I have a G580 that suddenly won't start at all.  It turned off when my daughter was watching a movie.  I assumed that the battery was dead but I do not know that for sure.  She then plugged it in for the night but it never started again.  When I have it plugged in the light on the front is solid white.  There is no light at all when ONLY on battery.   It does not start when the battery is removed and plugged in.  The system is about 1 1/2 years old and to my knowledge the battery was fine.  I have not seen any charging problems from Windows.  I purchased a new AC adapter but that did not fix it.  Does this seem like a power button problem or a motherboard problem? Thanks,Chris

A:G580 Won't Start

hi chberu,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Please try removing the AC Adapter and Battery
then hold down the Power Button for at least 10 sec.
Then Reconnect only the Ac adapter and see if that will fix it, Then reconnect the battery.

Also try turning it on with the RAM and Harddrive removed and see if that will show any difference on how the unit starts.

If the same problem, even if not Battery is connected, I suggest you contact Lenovo Technical Support for Hardware Assistance or Contact a local tech to check the system board for any issue.

For as long as I remember my Lenovo G580 would randomly stop recieving an internet connection from my wifi, leaving it still connected but without the ability to go online. I have been solving this problem by disconnecting and recconecting from the wifi, however this has been a temporary solution as the problem keeps coming back. I know this is a problem with the computer because it never happens with the other lenovo laptops in the house nor the phones connected to the same wifi.

So I bought a new CPU for my old G580 laptop. I wanted to upgrade from the B960 it has right now (it's the 20150 model). The new CPU is a i5-3320M as it's listed as a compatible part on both the downloadable PDF and the PartsLookup website (I checked with my serial number as well). I changed the CPU, installed thermal paste, everything, but to no avail. Won't even enter BIOS. The "on" LED flashes for 10 seconds, then it shuts down. Installed the old CPU again - it boots without problems. New CPU again - no BIOS, nothing. I have updated my BIOS to the latest possible version (version 5ECN96WW (V9.01), as the newer version shows a "Error 255 - TDK Library Initialization Failed". I just don't know what to do anymore. Could be a faulty CPU, but I doubt it. The only difference is that the old CPU is Sandy Bridge, and the new is Ivy Bridge. But it's shown as "compatible" with the laptop everywhere. It's a shame really...

So I'm trying desperetly to help my friend fix his laptop, and I'm running into huge issues. My friend is running a Lenovo G580, and cannot connect to the Wi-Fi whatsoever. When you look down at the connections, it shows a wired connection symbol, and it says that there's no connections to be found. Now I know for a fact that this laptop can use wireless, it was used probably a week or two ago by my friends mother. Now, it can't seem to connect to any wireless networks. I've tried just about everything, turning off power saving, deleting the drivers (which we can't do, as the wireless drivers aren't appearing under network adapter), nothing has changed it. The laptop is running Windows 10, and when we go to Network Settings, there's no WiFi tab, there's Proxy, VPN, etc. I really need help with this.

Provided you have a WiFi adapter installed in your notebook, you will need to turn on WiFi in your notebook then sign on to an available wireless network.  I suggest downloading your user manual and reading up on this subject for more information. If you do not see any wireless networks, you may need to purchase a Wireless Router from your internet service provider.  If you do not have a WiFi card in your computer you will need to contact Lenovo directly to purchase a compatible card for your specific notebook.

Also - make sure you have a good anti virus software suite installed before you go online.

Good luck.

Hi nikunjm022 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

When did it started happening ? If this would be a power management settings then a system restore to go back to a previous working date may help.

Try to reset BIOS settings by turning on the pc using the Novo key (item5 page 2) and choose BIOS settings , F9 to reset F10 to save and exit .

You can also try updating the touchpad driver from the support site.

We are not eliminating probable affectation of a grounded battery , but would it also happen with an inserted battery while plugged with the adapter?

A:[G580] Battery plugged in, not charging!

hi Laurent,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

The Lenovo Energy Management is probably limiting / protecting the battery from overcharging.

Can you try the following:

1. Apply this Plugged in not charging message fix (Windows 7 only)

2. In Windows 8, uninstall Lenovo Energy Management and test. If battery stays charging, reinstall Lenovo Energy Management and observe:

Lenovo Energy Management      Lenovo Energy Management
Windows 7 32bit / 64bit                Windows 8 32bit / 64bit
cagt26ww.exe                                 em8.0.2.5.exe21.2MB                                             45.4MB

3. If you still get the same error, try to:
a. turn off the computer and remove the battery and AC adapter.
b. press and hold the power button for 30 secs and reconnect the AC adapter
c. turn ON the computer and continuously tap F2 to boot into the BIOS, when you're in, press F9 to load defaults and press F10 to save and exit.
d. boot into Windows... Read more

A:G580 - Does this look like a legit CPA-A065 charge...

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

The G580 models requires a minimum of a 65 watts, 20 VDC, charger/adapter.  The CPA-A065 model you have shown is compatible with those requirements.  If you can find a 90 watt charger, that would be even better.  The 90 watt will run cooler and charge faster when the laptop is in use.

Page #115 of your model's Hardware Maintenance Manual lists the 65 and 90 watt chargers for your model.  Here is that manual for your reference.....

Hi Puneet,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

We are really sorry to hear about the issue you are facing.

Firstly, Check BIOS? Sometimes a BIOS has fan speed controls.

This is normal as the game is running and full GPU is utilized, if the temp increases more than normal.  I suggest you to use the Laptop by placing it on a flat surface for good ventilation.

Please go through the below link to understand about Safe Temperature range for CPU?

Hey, I'm currently using a G580 Lenovo laptop. One day I played my laptop and supricely it just turned off, so I turned it on again and once I typed my password to access the PC it turned off again, so I got the battery out the PC and waited five minutes, after I got the battery back I pressed the power button and nothing happened, no lights, no noice, nothing, just not turning on. I tried to find my problem on the internet and I found a youtube video how to fix that: get your battery off with your charger, press the power button 1 minute, get back the charger into the pc and press the power button and ta-dam! It's working. Well no, I did everything and it didn't solve my problem. Any ideas?

I usually have my G580 laptop hardwired to my router, so I wasn't checking wireless connectivity on a regular basis.  But it won't connect anymore (it used to work).  Everything else I own workes fine over wi-fi on my Netgear router (Android tablet and smartphone, HP Windows Vista laptop, etc.). I took my G580 laptop to McDonald's this morning and it connects to their wi-fi easily. Any ideas? Thanks, rick8864

A:G580 won't connect over wi-fi to my Netgear WNDR43...

hi rick8864,

Just to verify, when you connect to the Netgear accesspoint, are you getting one of the errors below?

Windows was unable to connect (Win7)
Can't connect to this network (Win8)

Things that you can try:
1. Reboot the router
2. Remove the Wi-Fi network and try connecting again.

If you have Win7, navigate to Control Panel (icon views) > Network and Sharing Center > Manage Wireless Networks and delete the Netgear accesspoint.
 - Link to picture

If you have Win8, right click on the Wi-Fi network and choose Forget Network
 - Link to picture

3. Uninstall the Wi-Fi Adapter by navigating to Device Manager Network Adapters. When finished, scan for hardware changes and reconnect to the wireless accesspoint then observe.

Let me know how it goes.

Hello.

I have a Lenovo G580 with Windows 8. I have a weird problem with audio. If the default audio is set as internal speakers and I plug in my headphones the sound just keeps coming from the internal speakers. But if I set the headphones as default, I can switch between the speakers and headphones as I want and there is no problem if only I play music from my computer.

If I try to play something from my browser, however, the sound only comes from the internal speakers and connecting the headphones does nothing. Except (and this is where it gets weird) if I play something from my computer first using the headphones. Then I can play anything from the browser and hear it through the headphones as long as I don't plug them out. If I plug them out, the sound switches back to the internal speakers and trying to plug in the headphones again doesn't do anything. So I have to play something from my computer again with the headphones plugged in and then switch to my browser to again play everything through my headphones.

What's wrong with it? Any way to make it work as it should work?

In my attempt to reinstall my Lenovo G580 audio drivers I deleted one and I can't find it. I think it might be a Dolby Advanced Audio driver because I'm pretty sure thats what my computer has. When I looked at device manager there were orignally 2 drivers under "Sound, Video, and Game Controllers". After I deleted one, the driver that was left is Intel(R) Display Audio. I hope that helps identify the missing driver. Also I would like a download link to the Intel(R) Display Audio driver because i will need to reinstall that one as well.

Im almost definently monitering this post constantly so if you reply expect a response very soon
Thanks for the help

A friend had a malware attack, a beeping error on Chrome about a Windows Defender error running Win 10. She managed to shut down Chrome and then shut off her computer. She tried turn back on, but it would not. I managed to start the computer by removing battery , AC power and the bios battery. The only way to turn on is to remove all of the above and then reinsert bios battery and connect AC power. The keyboard does not work properly, types mostly 6s and a few other characters (ie the shift key types an 's'). No wifi, no CD, no mouse touchpad. I can get into Windows 8, which I restored from factory partiton. Did not affect the operation. I assumed that the bios must have been over written, so I downloaded an update, but it will not install. Program goes through the motions, but the old bios is still there. I am using an external USB KB and mouse. I still can not get into the bios. Is there a way to "force" a bios update?

I have completed a system restore to factory settings and downloaded and installed all updates. I have also run all Lenovo diagnostics to no avail.
I have changed the settings in power options, the bios has no power option.
I would appreciate any help

Recently bought a new Lenovo G580 to replace my old decrepit Toshiba. It worked fine for a couple of days, but suddenly started BSOD-ing as I began to use the laptop more and more.

I have noticed it is more susceptible to BSOD-ing when I am running Bit Torrent. Although it seems to wait until it strikes, luring me into a false sense of security and then crippling me.

I ran BlueScreenView, as I have seen many people mention it on various forums, including this one, and the such and it gave me these results. Sorry if this is not the accepted way of throwing out these results, but I am unsure what I am doing.

Pretty brain dead computer wise, so sorry if this is unreadable/invokes facepalms all round.

Any advice or help would be very much appreciated as I have no idea what I am doing. If all else fails I suppose I can send it back.

I have read numerous complaints online about the Lenovo G570 laptop, apparently the hinges are prone to break a few months after use, and whatsmore the customer service teams are supposeduly refusing to acknowledge that the issue is covered under wear and tear.. I am wondering, has this problem been addressed with the release of the G580 laptop? I am no expert, but I assume that the model numbers represent incremental revisions. Does this typically mean component upgrades ie processor or also include fixes such as the hinges of the G570? Any response would be greatly appreciated as I am considering buying the G580 but need a strong quality laptop. I have heard that Lenovo are the best, my friend has one with a metal case and it seems strong, which models are known for their strength/durability? I also require a 15.6inch screen with i5, 4gb ram and 500gb hdd, preferably and usb 3.0.. Thanks,Richard.

A:Is hinge problem fixed in G580?

Hi

G580 is a good model and mostly all the quality measure have been verified before releasing it to the market

It is a normal trend when every any new mode is released all the parameters are verified by the R&D team
to give customers a WOW experience.

You can Google & go through few of the reviews for G580 to know more about the product and user experiences
