Hi! I have a brand new HP Pavilion dv6-6137so which I want to connect to an also brand new HP 2311x monitor. This works just fine if I use  VGA . But when I try to connect the notebook to the monitor with a hdmi cable, the monitor stays black (with the message "check your cable" or something similar). Is there something I could do to make the hdmi connection work - and in that case what? Or do I have to be content with the VGA connection to the external monitor? Thanks in advance to anyone nice enough to try and help!

See this document http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02013758 Your particular model of monitor should auto detect the input source, so you can skip that step in the guide. I have Lenovo B540 All-In-One (Windows 8) whose monitor is cracked and the screen is black. I'm trying to still use the computer or at least access the hard drive by attaching a second monitor through the HDMI Out connect slot in the back. So I purchased the "DVI-D to HDMI (or vice versa)" cable (Dynex brand) for $40 from BestBuy and made the connection to my DVI monitor.

Well, Lenovo turns on but is not recognizing the second monitor! Should it automatically recognize the second monitor or are there some steps involved like pressing down on certain function keys (like you would in laptops)? I've perused Lenovo's hardware support manual but they don't explain proper steps.

Does anyone know what the proper steps are when the original monitor is not working? I know for sure the computer itself is working; it's making all the right Windows start-up noise. No, the computer is not passworded so it should go in straight.

Would it be easier to connect to the TV via HDMI? Would I then need HDMI cables?

Thanks everyone for any suggestions you might have to offer.

I have a lenovo b570e laptop and am running Windows 8.1.

I recently bought a new monitor (ASUS ve248h) to use as a dual monitor along side my own laptop however upon connecting the HDMI cable with the monitor it doesn't appear to work. I have tried updating the drivers and the hdmi port does work while I am connecting to my LG tv using the hdmi port. I have used various cables including the one that connects it to the tv however so far without success.

I am a bit clueless as to why it would work with the tv and not the monitor also my brothers laptop (which has Ubuntu) does successfully connect to the monitor.

Any help would be much appreciated and Thanks in Advanced

Hello HP community, I have a HP 15 TS Notebook PC and the HDMI port is not working. Yesterday (9/17/2016) it was working just fine. I had my laptop connected to my TV via HDMI and it working. Today my computer did an update and after the update my computer did not read the HDMI cable. I am not even sure what the update was for, but I turned it off this morning and it updated and then updated again when I turned it back on later today. After the update the computer does not read the HDMI cable. Everything else works fine. What should I do? Thanks!

Hi,

I currently want to connect a 2nd monitor to my computer. My graphics card has one VGA output, which is what my main monitor is connected to, and an HDMI output too.

The other monitor I have only has a VGA input, I'm wondering if there's a cable or converter I can get so that I can connect my 2nd VGA monitor to the HDMI output?

Thanks

Ryan

A:VGA monitor, but HDMI port

I think,as your 2nd monitor is not hdmi compatable then your hdmi out form your computer may not give hi def capabilities.
You can get a converter transcoder here http://www.amazon.co.uk/HDfury-1080P-HDMI-Converter-Transcoder/dp/B000SOPWS8 that might do the trick. Could be right for your situation.
Please hang around here and see if anyone else can chip in with suggestions.

Hi

I have an i5-based DG67BL intel motherboard computer that has a DVI and HDMI ports with one DVI monitor connected to the DVI port.

I added an GeFORCE 210 graphics card to it that has a VGA and a DVI ports and connected additional two monitors to it.

So far computer is working fine with three monitors configured in windows as extended desktop.

This motherboard has just one PCIeX16 slot. It has 2 PCIeX1 and a PCI slot that are vacant.

I need to connect yet another DVI monitor. I took a HDMI<->DVI cable, connected it to the onboard HDMI port. the monitor was not detected.

I tried various combinations of monitors and bios settings in vain. Under no circumstances the HDMI port drove the DVI monitor.

The cable is working fine elsewhere.

What did I do wrong ? Is there something I need to buy/replace for this to work ?

Thanks !

A:How to connect additional DVI monitor to HDMI port

you 'need' to connect a 4th monitor? I recommend getting graphics card(s) to support your endeaver, but up to you.

Why don't you get a dvi to vga or maybe its a vga to dvi cord and connect the dvi monitor to the graphics card vga port?

Does it have to go into the HDMI port? HDMI carries sound as well as the video signal, dvi only carries video, and vga carries a lesser quality video

Hello esteemed experts.

Hi,
Before I wander off to buy a MiniDisplayPort to HDMI adapter and an HDMI adapter:Can someone first-hand confirm or disconfirm if the OptiPlex 9030 can be used as an external/second monitor via the HDMI IN (for my MacBook Pro/in general)?
According to ZDNet (on the 9030) it is possible:
"...plug in an external video source (via HDMI)..."
www.zdnet.com/product/dell-optiplex-9030/
According to this forum (but on the 9010) it is not possible:
"...I would like to inform you that both VGA and HDMI ports on the system are TV out connection... you won't be able to use this system as display only for a different system or laptop...."
en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19508673
Is it that the 9010 does not have HDMI IN and the 9030 does have HDMI IN (and hence the 9030) does work as an external monitor?
Thank you in advance for your help!

A:Can I Use the OptiPlex 9030 as an (External) Monitor via HDMI IN?

The setup guide shows you have one 19-pin HDMI-input port (#11) on back of the monitor so you should be able to connect an external video source, assuming the source puts out a compatible HDMI signal.
You may need to use the On-Screen Display (OSD) buttons (#6) to configure the display to accept the signal from the HDMI-input. The setup guide doesn't list the OSD options so you may have to figure those out yourself. The OSD buttons are on the right edge of the screen just below the optical drive.

I have a HP Spectre 13 Ultrabook (Model No. F5C93EA#ABU) originally shipped with Windows 8.1 64 bit.About 2 months ago it was updated to Windows 10 64-bit with no great problems (update in place).Recently I observed that the external HDMI port no longer works when trying to connect to a TV. I have since tested many combinations of external monitors and cables together with other laptops and proved the problem is with this laptop, We have updated windows 10 to the latest aniversary update to attempt to fix the problem and have also uninstalled and reinstalled the Intel Gaphics Driver which is currently at version 10.18.15.4248. This the latest driver is as posted at the HP website and tends to the be the version that is also automatically installed via windows update.  I notice that actual baseline release date of 10.18.15.4248 is August last year. Intel have many later non-OEM versions but this is the latest HP OEM version. I am at a loss on how to fix the problem and have had to resort to a plugabble USB3 to HDMI adapter to provide external monitor support.

It shouldn't. Does the problem occur during bootup, or while in use?

Also, if it occurs after letting the PC sleep or hibernation, it could be a hardware or OS/software issue.

I have a Yoga 11s that started having hdmi connection issues about a year ago and has recently quit connecting to an external monitor via HDMI completely. We tried upgrading to Windows 10 to see if that would overwrite any software issues - no luck. The HDMI port actually appears loose. I did an extensive search of the forum and found posts that recommended cutting down the rubber around the base of the hdmi cord - tried that and at least I had a little activitiy - in the upper right hand corner of the external monitor up popped a box that says DVI then VGA then HDMI - but then says No Signal. Tried the graphics card update recommended on a post from long time ago and a popup indicated I had a newer version already installed. I have taken it to a laptop repair place - said they couldn't get parts from Lenovo. I found an "authorized" Lenovo repair shop locally - when I called they said they only work on business machines Called Lenovo and they told me to take it to Best Buy - however since I purchased this directly from Lenovo, Best Buy said they can't work on it. I would rather not send it into Lenovo because they tried to charge my hubby hundreds of dollars when his 15 day brand new laptop quit working, claiming damage - luckily extensive pictures taken and dated prior to sending it in thwarted that attempt at extortion. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have a Toshiba Satellite A-215 notebook that I hooked up to my 19" HD LCD TV as an external monitor. The TV has all the normal RCA ports in the back, plus a VGA/audio port specifically for connecting to a PC. So I have the TV working with video only, through the VGA cable. I'm wondering how to get the audio playing through the TV instead of my notebook speakers?

Do I have to purchase some additional converter thing for this to work?? The only idea I had was to hook a regular audio cable from the TV to my headphone jack, but that didn't work. Then I didn't have sound at all because ... it was trying to go through headphones. Unplug it, sound comes through the laptop speakers.

Oh, I'm using Windows Vista if that matters.

Any help is appreciated!

A:Using TV as an external monitor on my notebook

Ashley Beaver,

I am not a pro at hardware but I think I may have run into your problem a while back. You see, I purchased a monitor to hook up to my laptop and I fancied the idea of using an HDMI cable (This is where my comment could lead you astray). turned on my laptop everything was fine and the sound came from the monitor speakers instead of my laptop headphones. Since you are using Vista this may work the same as Windows 7.

Go to Computer from the start menu - Open Control Panel - Hardware and Sound - Manage Audio Devices. If your T.V. Icon is there then perhaps clicking it and setting it as default could fix the problem. I hope this may help in anyway.

I have a gateway C-140 convertible notebook. OS Vista ultimate. I am having trouble connecting an external display such as another monitor or a projector to the VGA port. It worked in the past (less than a year ago when I tried it). I was able to connect a monitor to the docking station and when I connected the notebook to the docking station the external monitor displayed the desktop. I did not use that function much but recently I tried to connect a projector and that's where my trouble began.
Not only was the projector not detected but when I tested the system using the external monitor, it was not detected as well. I can not figure out this problem. Here's what I have tried so far:
Turned off computer, plugged in external monitor and turned on computer - thinking it would auto detect the new hardware. No luck. I tried this in both the docking station and the notebook's VGA port.
I uninstalled the video adapter, rebooted to have the generic VGA display adapter loaded, then re-installed the correct drivers which I downloaded from the intel website for Intel Chipset 965 series Mobile. No luck after reinstalling the video adapter drivers.
What else. . . When I go to the Display Properies I do see the icons for 2 screens with a big number 1 and a big number 2 in each screen. When I click on #2 it does not let me change the screen resolution. It stays on 800x600. But when I click to identify screens with the external monitor plugged in I do not get any picture.

Hello everybody,

I just bought a "half" of an U920T: a laptop without the display(which was literally ripped off, you could see the bent hinges and what is left of the cable).
It's a great piece of hardware and I can use it with an external monitor, thanks to the HDMI connection.

What is the problem?
I only get video signal on the HDMI display, when windows(10) is loaded.

What do I want?
I would very much like to access the bios settings and set the primary output to HDMI, if possible.

I have already tried:
- removed the display cable from the mainboard
- using the F4 and the Fn+F4 to switch between displays. (it only works in windows)
- using the Toshiba System Settings Windows App. (there is no "video output" setting there)

Would any of you who have a similar model be so kind as to:
1. Check their bios to see if the option is available?
2. Upload a picture with the location of this setting in bios, or even better a video?

Thank you!!
Stefan

I purchased the 5510 with the high DPI touchscreen, running W10 and after some fiddling with it, including going to Windows 8.1 scaling and forcing the non high DPI aware applications to utilize that scaling too, I am really happy with the laptop itself.
The problem is connecting it to anything else.  I heard that not all HDMI cables would support 4K monitors, so I went to the local electronics retailer and tested it. HDMI worked fine with a 4K screen.  I thought surely it would be able to drive also a standard run of the mill 24in 1920x1200 screen as an external monitor, with different scaling factor.
Nothing at all.  Tried also using HDMI to a HDMI-DVID adapter and utilizing that port, same problem.
The monitor simply gets no signal.  The computer never recognizes the fact that it is connected.  It seems like a case of zero compatibility.  I tried going to other monitor appropriate resolutions, etc. it does not work at all.
While this is annoying by not being able to use an external monitor when I go home in the evening, or it means I need to buy a new high DPI monitor, what about connecting to a projector.  HDMI is the standard, and no projector runs 4K.  Why have a laptop that you cannot use for presentations?
I am not keen to go experimenting trying to purchase more dongles/adapters/ports for USB C without some idea why the built in HDMI has zero use as a connection to a projector or monitor.

Hi,
I searched the forums and the only posts involved the AMD card and I have an Nvidia card.  I couldn't find any information on the K4000M so I called tech support and they told me it was 2560x1600.  But then I found another forum where they said even the K1000M can do 4k.
I hooked up my 4k TV to the HDMI and used the Nvidia custom resolution to set up 3840x2160 at 30 hz and the display works.  The graphics look great, but the text is super fuzzy.  The TV supports 4K at 60Hz, but I'm not sure if the HDMI port on the back of my M6700 supports 60Hz.
Does the HDMI support 60Hz at 4k?  What about the display port?  Any idea why my text is super fuzzy while the graphics are razor sharp?
Thanks,

The current HDMI 1.4 standard only has bandwidth for 4K at 30hz. HDMI 2.0 will add support for 4K at 60Hz. Details should become clearer in late 2013. There are a few TVs on sale today that support 4K @ 30Hz through HDMI.

Now, according to this review and article about the K4000m card specifications, it states that the card has HDMI 1.4 connections, which means it won't, theoretically, handle Ultra 4k resolution at the 60Hz bandwidth.
I also found this on documentation online about the Precision 6700.

The Precision™ M4700 & M6700 incorporates HDMI version 1.4. Features

So, unfortunately, it doesn't sound like that card will support the higher refresh rate needed.
As for Display port

DisplayPort cables are much simpler to define: There’s just one type! The current version, DisplayPort 1.2, delivers enough bandwidth to carry video resolutions of up to 3840 by 2160 pixels at a refresh rate of 60Hz

So Display Port would be a much better option for you, if available.
I hope this answers your questions.

Hi all,

This is my first post to this forum, and I'm looking forward to meeting and greeting, as well as solving my issue. I consider myself fairly computer savvy, but have been unable to tackle this problem. My specs are posted. Here goes:

I've installed W7 Ultimate 64 bit on my notebook, and often use it connected to an external monitor. The monitor in question is a Samsung 216bw LCD at 1680x1050 and connected via HDMI/DVI cord (HDMI out on notebook and DVI in on monitor). I am using a ATI Mobility Radeon HD4650 card.

My notebook turns off randomly when connected to this monitor. It used to turn off randomly when on the notebook monitor also after being idle for a bit, but I fixed this with different power settings. It doesn't seem to matter what I am doing - anything from internet browsing to games. When it shuts off, I do not get a BSOD, a shut down warning, or anything - it simply turns off like it lost power. I have to turn it back on manually, but have never had problems with it turning back on. It asks me if I want to boot into safe mode, and after I choose it will boot like nothing ever happened.

The only thing in the event viewer is the "Kernel Power" and "6008 event" errors that notify me that it shut off, but it doesn't give me more info to go off of. All of the bug checks are 0x0.

I am dual booting with Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit, and have never had a problem with my notebook in Ubuntu regardless of the monitor being used, leading me to think thi... Read more

I often need to connect my computer to external projectors and monitors.  Normally it works fine - the display automatically switches to extended desktop between the laptop's built-in display the external monitor or projector, but sometimes (about once a week at the moment), when I connect the projector or monitor to the HDMI port nothing happens, and the monitor doesn't show up in any of the display management software - Windows 10 Display Settings, or the Intel HD Graphics Properties or Graphics Options.  Restarting the computer doesn't help.   On four occasions I managed to fix the problem by reinstalling the Display Driver.  Part way through the installation process, the external display would simply start working again.  However, yesterday when it failed to recognize a projector, reinstalling the display driver didn't help. The problem has now happened with three different external displays:- A VGA digital projector connecting via a UGreen HDMI-VGA adaptor- A VGA display connecting via a (different) UGreen HDMI-VGA adaptor- An HDMI monitor connected via an HDMI cable (which subsequently worked) My display adaptor is an Intel(R) HD Graphics 520, and the driver I kept reinstalling was 1131206.inf - sp 74635 Any ideas?  I'm starting to suspect a hardware fault with the display adaptor.  Is there any way to run a diagnostic test on it?

I have a Dell notebook with XP Media Direct. The display goes black soon after boot-up while an external monitor functions. When the notebook lid closed and re-opened, the display comes back temporarily, the external seems to reset, and then the notebook display returns to black. I have hibernate turned off, standby set to never and sleep set to never.

I tested standby and hibernate and they both display that they are either about to switch to standby or hibernate before the display turns off.

I don't think it is a heat issue because it happens even after the notebook has been off for awhile and turned back on. I've updated the video drivers.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Scott

A:Notebook display goes black, but external monitor is functional??

i believe this is a feature, not a problem.

Most laptops will shut off their screen when an external monitor is connected to save power. However, depending on your laptop, there should be a Fn command allowing you to swap display modes (only ext, only laptop, or both)

I have a brand new notebook.  For the first week or so I had no problems with the external Dell monitor being recognized.  Now the HP won't recognize the display.  I have tried it with my old laptop and everything works fine.  I had an issue last week with the speakers (on the laptop) not playing music.  I'm beginning to wish I'd never bought this.  Lots of aggravation for a lot of money.    Has anyone else had a problem with the monitor suddenly not recognized?  Thanks for any help.

Hi Dell Community,
Please help me to diagnose what is wrong with my new laptop.
My Laptop is Dell Latitude E6440 but every time i connect external monitor to my laptop HDMI port via HDMI to VGA converter, the external monitor always blink randomly every couple of seconds. This HDMI to VGA converter is working fine when i used it to other laptop.
Currently i still don't have chance to try my laptop HDMI port to connect directly to HDMI monitor because i don't have it.
Are there anybody have the same problem with me? thanks for your help.

Hi, As you are confirming that issue is intermittent, and now its working fine, it means that issue would be of display cable. The display cable would be loose. Issue can be fixed by refixing the display cable, if the issue persists then the display cable needs to be replaced. This is the only reason, I asked you in the previous post whether issue was intermittent or display view changed while moving the display lid. This particualr issue has nothing to do with the temperature. Regards,Sumit I am an HP Employee

Hi I'm new here and I have a problem. I recently followed instructions on a website to speed up windows xp and I disabled some service/processes. I wanted to know which process is used to connect an IBM Thinkpad R40 laptop with XP SP3 to an external TV. I tried several cables and monitors and tvs, but nothing works! It worked a few days ago. My lower palmrest and lower buttons were removed before this happened- could this be a cause? I already tried all the Display things and everything, but it doesn't work. My TV says 'PC' under sources, but then it just shows a black screen whenever I go on it and press FN and F7 and turn it on in the Display window. I also tried other monitors and they still don't work. PLEASE HELP ME THANKS A BUNCH

A:What service/process is used to connect to an external monitor/TV through DVI port?

Are you using the correct DVI cable (there are several configurations of DVI connectors).
See this: All About DVI

Also, avoid the use of a VGA-to-DVI adaptor -- they are very unreliable.

So my 2 year old satellite screen appears "dead". The system boots fine (XP) and I can see everything when attached to external monitor.

Is this video connection? screen? other? where should I have this repaired? THanks.

A:black screen - Toshiba notebook - boots fine with external monitor

Tricky........

Are you sure that you have not accidently switched to mode where your laptop is only displaying to external monitor. you should find instructions in handbook. See if both external monitor and Main screen show up on display properties, make sure you know how to switch back to your external monitor if it does not automatically find and display on external monitor first.

if the default monitor montor setting is not the problem then your screen has failed and you will need to have your screen replaced. if you still have warranty then send it back to manufacturer or where you purchaced it from.

No warranty? then take to local computer shop, (shop around dont just go to PC World or major outlet)
Laptop displays are very expensive.

Is it enough for this HDMI to VGA active converter

then a VGA to VGA cable

A:Need to connect Satellite U945-S4110 to external monitor's VGA-IN port

> What do I need?

Well, the notebook supports only the HDMI out port. This port sends the digital video and audio signal.

In case your external monitor supports only the RGB-in (VGA) port, you would need to use some kind of adapter/converter which would be able to convert the HDMI digital signal to VGA analogue signal.

I don?t know if the adaptor would work but you will not get the sound because VGA does not support the audio signal, only video.

How can I use the DVI and get the right resolution (like in VGA mode) but without flickering ?

I guess the Toshiba ATI driver does not support the 1680x1050 resolution.
The only way to get the 1680x1050 resolution is to install another driver.

My drivers are up to date, cable is new and the monitor is new from boxing day.

Hello everyone,

I am having some trouble with my Tecra M11 with an external monitor going through a Express Port Replicator II.

It is very specific, but i am running texlive 2010 on my laptop for writing a thesis. Whenever i use my laptop screen the functionality is fine, and it runs very quickly, with no lag when i compile my document. Upon docking it into my docking station at work to use on a large monitor, whenever i use the same program, it slows up a lot, eventually causing the program to crash. Its frustrating to lose lots of your thesis like this! When i connect the external screen straight to the laptop, it works fine again.

Something is going wrong in the docking station. Does anyone know how i can correct this? Im a little confused, and out of ideas. maybe i driver or something im not aware of. Maybe my docking station is defective?

Thanks

Jake

A:Tecra M11-LaTeX runs slow on external monitor using Express Port Replicator

Which port do you use on port replicator? VGA or DVI?

It will not be easy to offer answer to your question. It is not possible to test all available software with docking station and search for solutions.
I would say: bad luck.

I want to use 2 displays using HDMI, but the only problem is that when I plug in my HDMI to my TV through the motherboard, it does not work. I know some do not support it which is why I am coming here. My mother board and graphics card are in my account so look there for the details on my computer. Thank you

A:Can I use my motherboard HDMI port as well as my graphics card HDMI?

I've seen a number of computers where the addition of an Add-in Video card automatically disabled the onboard adapter. The only thing that worked to restore the onboard adapter was to remove that Add-in card. You may want to consider getting a different Add-in card that has 2 HDMI ports. Or if your motherboard has 2 PCIe X16 slots get a 2nd matching card.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Have you made sure your graphics card driver is up to date?

Have you tried starting your PC up in safe mode and seeing if the problem still persists?

Please ensure you have done both of these and then post back; it would also be helpful if we knew your system specifications which you can fill in under 'User CP'.

Also does the task bar appear on the primary monitor or secondary monitor?

Hi,

So eagerly i tought to buy this cool looking laptop for a huge $2000 i needed it to output to a hdmi monitor ot TV so sometimes i could see movies as well, now i had to buy the special DA200 dell adaptor and in the past 3 weeks it`s been a complete nightmare, i WAS NEVER ABLE to make it work permanently. The chat support was no help at all usually simply resuming to try and replace the part but i do think the part is good and i didn't feel like waiting 2 weeks for it to ship from china.

The ethernet and usb work on the DA200 adaptor , EXCEPT HDMI.  SOMETIMES it would work briefly until next restart, i had tried everything ever available on the internet. The laptop is running Windows 10 (as it`s restricted to that version, i tried to install other versions with lots of issues and compatibility issues) so  i have installed reinstalled and installed different versions of the video driver for all possible windowses and none worked. what did work was very brief until next restart and that usually happened when i had a fresh windows install, after the first restart i will get a non working hdmi again.

I have tried several hdmi cables so i know it`s not the hdmi cable or the tv ot the monitor. and nobody seems to be able to help!!

Yes, HDMI is "hot pluggable" meaning you can plug it in while either or both devices are powered.

The video will be handled by the TV and the resolution will be resolved. I regularly attach my phone with it's tiny screen to my TV via HDMI to watch video from Netflix and such without issue.

Plugged HDMI cable in back of laptop straight in to t.v, changed the source and straight away i had a lovely sharpe picture of my deskop instantly.... or so i thought

im getting the middle part of my screen fine - but it is cropped so i cant see the tool bar (its too low) and the desktop icons are only veiwable if i move them closer in screen!

please help!

Ideally i want to have identical screens on both so i can use both at sam time, but currently i can only view either or atm? and the t.v one being crop means i can use it as a computer (No toolbar etc..)

I could figure this out on XP but windows 7 seems beyond me atm!

Thanks guys!

I'm only guessing but is there an option on your graphics card for an external monitor ?
If so it may identify the hdmi connected tv and tranmit to that as well as your PC.
You may need to adjust the screen resolution.
Is the TV calibrated to accept PC signals ?

Now, at that time I was using my component cables...so I removed them and tried an HDMI connection and got the same result. I have a Dell E6410 laptop which has HDMI port. When I was try to connect bet laptop and LCD TV. it is not recognizing. How can I found the HDMI port is working or not and then how do know it has been installed properly.

A:HDMI Port

Your TV must support the resolution that your laptop's video card is putting out.

Check your TV's manual.

Haven't used a PC with HDMI yet, where exactly is the port on most computers?

Thanks.

A:Where will the HDMI port be?

It will be close to the DVI/VGA port. On the back of a dedicated graphics card or within the I/O shield if onboard graphics.

I have an HP Pavilion P6770t that has an onboard DVI and HDMI.  I am trying to connect a second monitor to the HDMI prot but getting no video.  PC has Windows 7 - 64bit.  Went into the Screen Resolution and the monitor does not show up.  I clicked on detect and it does not see it.  I took the DVI cable from the other monitor and plugged it into the second monitor and the computer will see it.  I looked and the BIOS and there was not options for the HDMI port.  Does anyone know how to enable the HDMI port?

Ok well i basically want to conntect my PC to my TV to stream videos and stuff, and from what i gather it is as easy as plugging a HDMI cable in the HDMI port on my PC and then putting the other end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI port on my TV, is this correct?

My main question is however, how do i check if my PC has a HDMI port/is capable of doing this? I have had a look at the back of the motherboard and there is LOADS of slots for cabables and it's pretty hard to tell if there is actually one there, i think there is but i ain't entirely sure, i wanna know if theres anyway to check if there is one there by checking manually on the PC or something? Just to clarify there is definately one there.

And also i think my Monitor may have a HDMi port, but again i am unsure so if my motherboard didn't have a HDMi port could i just plug the cable into my monitor and it would have the same affect.

My graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS if that helps..

I hope this makes sense, i just don't wanna buy a HDMI cable and then find out it's no good, i hope it has one cause i'm not gonna bother using DVI converters and stuff as it's probably not that cost affective and i just wanted to do this quickly and easily...

Thanks!

I have the 2nd setup through a vga to hdmi cable but it just sits there black with "check signal cable."

2nd monitor is an lg2241

Tried:

- multiple re-boots
- downloaded a driver from LG but don't see that it did any kind of install. Double clicking it's zip file opened it and clicking on the three files did nothing but open gibberish code.
- at screen resolution I see multiple displays and I have it set on extended.
- Clicked detect and identify
- #2 says display device on vga
- tried unplugging and reconnecting the cable (hdmi to vga)

I'm lost. SOS!

lol!

Thx,
Dave

A:Dual monitor setup hdmi to vga on 2nd monitor shows nothing

Dave welcome to the Seven Forums.

That cable won't work unless the VGA port on the computer/laptop supports digital (highly unlikely), as VGA is an analogue signal and HDMI is digital. To get it to work you would need some kind of converter not an adapter, which that cable essentially is.

Assuming this is your monitor,

LG E2241V-BN: 22" Full HD LED LCD Monitor | LG USA

is says it has a VGA port on it. If it does then just use a plain old VGA cable.

Hello,So i use a projector (Epson SB03) to watch movies (I use my HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC  for this) I use a HDMI adaptor to get a signal to the projector, and about a week ago it stopped connecting. The thing is, it works on my second laptop, so it can't be the projector; either the cable or the HDMI port on the pavillion. I want to see if anyone knows any fixes before i go to buy new cables and adapters etc. any help would be apreciated.thanks~Teje

A:HP Pavilion notebook 15 PC does not connect to HDMI

Hi TejeIf you roll back the AMD Display Adapter driver to the previous version the HDMI output will work again. That's what I discovered when I could not access my Epson Projector. There must be a glitch in the new driver which was issued by AMD in March 2016. CheersWAR1

Today my notebook Asus M50Vn suddenly started to behave weird. While it's connected to plasma via HDMI, everything starts to stutter a bit, which is very inconvenient in videos. It works like this: 0,5 s of fluid picture, 0,1 s of freeze, 0,5 s of fluid picture, and so on.

Situation is the same on primary (built-in) monitor and secondary (plasma), as well as on youtube, VLC, PotPlayer and MPC HC. DXVA and CUDA won't make any difference, choosing different video renders in player's settings won't do the help as well. I've already tried to install older and newer drivers (graphics is Geforce 9650m GT) but it didn't help.

Computer is 100 % virus free, there is COMODO IS for on-access security and I've also checked it with malwarebytes, hitman pro, emsisoft emergency kit, kaspersky tdss killer and CCE. Almost all processes are disabled.

It's interesting because there's no problems when plasma is connected via VGA.

Unfortunately there's no useful system restore points.

Does anybody have any idea what could be wrong? Thanks in advance.

A:Notebook Is Slow While Connected To HDMI

Well normally I'd have said it was just your laptop struggling to upscale the image due to hardware limitations. But a 9650gt should be more than capable.
What happens if you disable the laptop screen and just use the tv as a primary monitor?

Erm.. Try a different HDMI lead and lower the resolution a little. But that's clutching at straws lol

Hi guys, new here. I recently purchased a used HP Pavilion G4 from a friend and tried to plug it into the TV using e HDMI port. When I plug in the HDMI port the computer doesn't say or even recognize that there is a cord plugged into it. The tv also shows no signal. I think it is a driver issue, that a driver isn't installed on the computer. But I have no idea what driver to install. Any suggestions?

I have an HP Pavilion 23-h109 TouchSmart All-in-One Desktop PC I'd like to output some movies and pictures from my computer onto my TV but there are only USB ports and no Video out  ports in this computer. The TV I want to connect to can take VGA and HDMI in.  It's not a smart TV, so there's no abilty to mirror as screen, etc.  so it will have to be a wired connection to the HP computer.   Is there a USB adapter that I can buy to connect the two?  Or some other method to send my video/audio output to the TV? Thanks

HI All

I have moved to Windows 7 from Vista, finally

Computer - HP 8710w, Intel Centrino vPro, Nvidia Quadro

I connected my HDMI cable to TV Hdmi port and PC Hdmi port but no signal on TV at all. With Vista it was plug and play (just needed to adjust audio settings on PC).

I have tried downloading updated drivers but to no avail. While connected pressing the Fn key and F4 hey does nothing, the computer has no idea that something is in that port. I think the port is somehow inactive or physically damaged.

How may i check to see if the port is working and how do i check if its software related?

Many thanks
Z

A:HDMI port not working

Are you running more then one monitor at a time? If you are then you need to right click on your desktop and select "Screen Resolution". Then find the TV on the display device drop-down menu. Then check the box "Make this my Main Display".

Let me know if that works, if not I can help troubleshoot the problem some more.

I have an ideacentre 700-25ISH with two HDMI ports, and i have two HD monitors.  the first monitor is connected to the "primary" HDMI port and works perfectly.  i tried connecting the second monitor to the other HDMI port, and it's not recognized.  the only way i get it to work is connecting thru the VGA port, and of course that doesn't give me HD.  i now have the second monitor connected by VGA and HDMI, but the HDMI isn't recognized.  any ideas?
