My g580 ran out of battery while using it, and now it gets stuck on the lenovo logo. I tried a different hard drive which changed nothing, I've tested both hard drives on a different computer and they both work. However when I boot the laptop with no harddrive it will get past the logo go to a screen saying something about an unplugged cable then reset and get stuck on a blank screen.   If I plug in my windows recovery usb drive( and no harddrive) the the machine will boot normally and go to the windows installation screen. So any ideas on why a working harddrive would stop the system from booting? Also I've tried the whole taking out the battery unplugging it holding down the power key and then plugging it back in thing, did nothing.

Just started happening this week.   It's stuck at the boot screen "lenovo".   I tried many different methods like removing battery, holding power button to reset, etc.  The *only* way to get it to boot is the remove memory card, and put it back.  Then it will boot up fine.     It might then boot fine for the rest of the day.  But then the next day (or after being shutdown for a while), it happens again so i have to remove memory card, put it back, etc.  What could be the problem here ?  I tried both memory slots.  So i don't think it's particular to one slot.

The first thing I look at if a machine hangs at startup is the USB ports.  Physical damage can create shorts which cause these symptoms.  Check for bent pins or a tongue broken off.

Hi Azadkv,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
I?m sorry to hear that your G500 Laptop is not booting to Windows and hanging at Lenovo Logo and the issue persists even after performing Flee-Power step. Hence, I suggest to perform BIOS reset and check if the issue persists. Below are the steps to perform BIOS reset:

To access BIOS menu turn OFF the Laptop and press the NOVO button located beside power button.
Then to reset the BIOS to its defaults click on ?F9? Key and select YES.
Now click on ?F10? Key to save the changes that are done in BIOS, the computer will automatically restart.

Do post us back if the issue persists.
Best Regards

Shiva Kumar

Okay, so my Lenovo N580 IdeaPad with i3 processor is stuck at the splash screen, aka the black screen with Lenovo written on it in bold white letters. I tried removing the battery, then putting it back on, then pressing power button for 45 secs. I also tried pressing the the Novo button (the small round and black button besides the power button) but the screen shows no change and does not go to bios/reset menu on pressing f9/f12 too. What else can I do to get my laptop back on? Please help, all my project work is on my laptop

A:Lenovo G580 screen goes white display

hi sameerjha28,
Welcome to Lenovo Forums!
You can try doing this:
-Turn off the computer.
-Unplug AC Adapter and remove the battery.
- Hold the Power button Down for at least 10-15 seconds, Then try reconnecting the AC adapter only and leave the battery out, turn it ON and see if it will make any difference.
- If it powered on Try it with the battery and check if it would still turn on properly.
If the above steps did not work Try an external monitor and check if it works there.
I would suggest Contact Lenovo Technical Support for service if the steps above did not help.
Hope this helps,

Im not native english speaker, sry if u cant understand some parts. Ill try my best to make my message clear so eventual will come easier.

This problem occurs for quite some time, its rather calm since few weeks when I downloaded shitload of new drivers and some other lenovo stuff but might be just coincedence. Since this issue doesnt want to go away itself I have to do something about it. I can send it to Lenovo for free service anymore so Id like to ask some experts if theres something I can do to fix this issue.

Some info:
- occurs usually while typing or other stuff, but few times my laptop literally went nuts and flashed black screens few times a sec, no matter if i touched it or not

- its not overheating, i bought cooling pad and it didnt help much

- can happen just after turning laptop on and not happen during 10h+ session

Thank you in advance.

Work through these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 which will uncover most problems. Report back results as there may be other steps indicated.

Why did you install all of these other drivers? Did you already have performance problems or just create them?

Do you have a System Restore point still available before this problem began?

What else have you installed? Please post back as screenshot of Control Panel's Programs and Features after maximizing the page, using the Snipping Tool from Start Menu: Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Seven Forums - Windows 7 Forums

After a power outage 3 weeks ago I was having issues with the system going down at around 5 minutes and then less and less time after that. I was told it was a display issue and to uninstall and reinstall my display drivers. I uninstalled my drivers and it was still the same. I felt like it was temperature related. I found my graphics card (Radeon 5700) was dirty. I cleaned it and thought I was back in business. Everything was back to normal, all I needed to do was update my graphics drivers. Once that was done, my computer would no longer load past the Windows splash screen.

I used Puppy Linux on a flash drive and I have access to everything. I can use the internet and access all my files. This to me says that it is not a hardware issue.

The fact that when I try to go into safe mode it gets stuck for more than a day on classpnp.sys (when I finally give up). I understand that classpnp.sys has loaded but, there is something after that that the computer can't load. I have seen some people have atipcie.sys load after classpnp.sys and it makes sense to me that it would be a graphics driver that is causing the issue.

I need my Windows 7 up and running for school and work projects. Any ideas, thoughts, or help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi ,
Follow this tutorial to run SFC /Scannow at boot.
SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot
If you want to run the command from a USB drive follow this tutorial.

And apply it to the first link instead of the ERD (Emergency Repair CD).

Screensaver is enabled and so is 'Display welcome screen when coming back from screensaver'.

This works most of the time, however on a regular basis the screensaver will resume to the following screen and just stay there forever.

The only thing to do is to press the power button, at which point a popup alerts that a user is logged in, do you still want to shut down.

(atleast those of you running intel-chipsets)

Updating my intel RAID driver fixed the issue where I was stuck at the splash screen after the first reboot during initial installation (upgrading directly from Win 7 without loss of files)

Download the third link (iata_enu.exe - version, after download completes, run the executable. Install. Do a reboot. Start the Windows 8 installer again - watch magic happen.

My PC has developed a problem and I'm looking a solution. What I'm seeing is that when I boot my PC, it gets to the splash screen and I see the scroller moving but that's it. No color changes no BSOD, etc. At this point, I've been able to restore my system using an Acronis full system recovery but I would like to know what's going on behind the scenes when the progress bar moves but nothing.

Hi all,

Ever since I applied Microsoft's most recent critical update (a security patch of course) I have had a hard time restarting. I've been getting hung up on the splash screen (in my case the Alienware alien head) and the actual boot process never begins. I was able to overcome if before by unplugging the pc but now even that doesn't work and I have been stuck on the splas fo hours now. Any idea how to get past this?

ok this is going to sound weird. My windows XP is stuck on the splash screen when I boot up i've tried doing everything even accidently reinstalled it on my back up drive. but when I want to run it on my primary drive all it does is stick on the splash screen done it 12 hours at a time 2 times. I can get into safe mode with networking perfectly fine. all I did was boot up a floppy disc to check contents then PC froze except mouse for an hour so I rebooted since then can't log on. any ideas?

A:XP stuck on splash screen

You could try doing a repaor install of XP. however if it is a piece of hardware that has become defective and is causing the problem then a repair install isnt going to fix it.

Okay this one has me stumped. I have system I just finished putting together with some pieces from left over from an upgrade and some new pieces as well. I get XP Home to install and everything and even get many things updated and all looks fine. Until you power down. Once you have powered the system down and come back to it.... you turn it on and the windows splash screen comes on and it the little lights run back and forth like four times and then when they get to the end of the little box, everything stalls out. The keyboard dies, the hdd activity light stops working, everything. I have tried using the restore functions in the XP disk to no avail. I even brought the hdd back and got a new one thinking it had something to do with the hdd being bad or something. But no the new one does the same thing. I have tried contacting Microsoft but they are no help at all... they won't help you unless you get the product ID number which you need to be in Windows to get.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on? Is there a jumper on my Motherboard I should change? I have been pulling my hair out all day with this one. I have quite a bit of computer experience and nothing has frustrated me quite like this one. Maybe I am just looking too hard and the answer is in front of me.

Any help would be appreciated.

A:Xp Home gets stuck on Splash Screen

Have you checked in the BIOS lately, you might be suffering from CMOS battery failure, the way to check is set the BIOS up (if its lost its settings) and when you turn the PC off by shutting down from the desktop leave the power supply 'ON', with an ATX PSU to conform to the spec it supplies a trickle of juice to the CMOS even when the PC is off, the only time it uses the battery is when the PSU is disconnected from the mains supply. If the PC boots next time 'cos the settings have stuck, try next time pulling the plug from the wall overnight and if it fails next day, go get a new CMOS battery- usually a 2302 about ?2.00.

I'm working on the tenuous assumption that the BIOS is set to auto detect the drives so it knows where your OS is but then cant load drivers etc for the OS as the BIOS hasn't given the OS any hardware details to pole.

Of course it could be dodgy memory or a disk too.

Windows seems to start, i see the blue logo, the loading circle doing it's thing, but that's it ... firsts i thought i just need to be more patience, but i'm running this now for roundabout 4 hours on my notebook, and nothing happens...
sooo, what's the trick ? is there some kind of magic BIOS setting i need to set for booting all the way through ?
I'm trying this now for a week, i don't know what else to do :/

I'm new to your forum and hope to find help.

I have a Toshiba Tecra A9 stuck on the splash screen after my intervention in the bios to boot from a USB stick.

At the start, it turns more on the startup screen with the 5 symbol of choice (hard disk, USB, etc.).
Clicking on a symbol and nothing responds I can not enter the bios.
It is displayed at the top of the screen: In Touch With Tomorrow TOSHIBA and five symbols.

I disconnected two small green battery on the motherboard for 10 minutes, but nothing has changed.
That said, I do not know if I disconnected the battery good (y 'have it two?).
It also would it make a metal button battery on the motherboard?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Splash screen appearsThis shows for a couple secondsGoes back to splash screen and hangs"boot_device" LED stays lit on mobomobo error readout reads "00" when hung

When pressing del or f2 at the splash screen it refuses to go into bios config. I've tried and older USB keyboard and removing the mobo battery and draining all power to try and reset and I currently only have the OS ssd plugged in but I'm still getting the same issue.

It's so weird before it was rare (stuck at splash screen glitch) i did the upgrade from win 7 to 10 and my system had random skips and black screens. Then my 120 ssd died but not before i could clone it and it did the same on the new ssd. So i tried a clean install and cured all my problems all but 1, on cold boots i get to the windows splash screen before login and the little circle made of dots barely moves and takes about 5 minutes to get to the password screen. Once i get the login screen its fast as heck and all is well but wth is up with the splash screen? Before it was rare though like one out of ten boots would do that now fresh install every boot is crazy slow.

Trying to clean up a relatives computer here. I was installing windows updates since it was quite out of date in that regard. Everything went fine until the sp3 update. after rebooting the computer was stuck at the splash screen. Tried booting into safe mode and it stalls there too. So I tried booting with the xp install disc to get to the recovery console and possibly just wipe the drive and start over but it stalls there too. It loads all the files and then stalls at the "setup is starting windows" screen

So I can not boot windows normally, in safe mode, or from the xp disc. This little favor for my niece has just turned into a nightmare. Any ideas?

Hi guys, I'm dealing with a problem which is currently (but I sincerely hope, not permanently) rendering my G700 useless. When I attempt to boot my PC it freezes at the Lenovo splash screen. I've waited ample amount of time but nothing appears to happen. One time I waited and managed to get into a Windows troubleshooting menu where I attempted to wipe the PC and start fresh, but this also froze at the lenovo screen soon after. Pressing the Novo button gives me 4 options but it appears to freeze, not allowing me to scroll through the options, or press enter. If I remove the harddrive it tells me to insert media and press OK, but once again, it appears to freeze as pressing enter doesn't do anything. I've tried booting from a USB stick but can't seem to get into any setting which would allow me to do this.I Removed DVD drive as I read on this forum that it was an issue with different Lenovo laptops, and since I don't use it anyway, decided to give it a go, but unfortunately nothing changed :-( If any kind soul could advise me with what I could possibly do, it be would be greatly appreciated as I'm dreading the thought of having to purchase a new laptop. Thanks :-)

If you wish to have others assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder. The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
* Briefly describe the problem history and circumstances in the same post. Somebody will attend to your query as soon as possible.

Is it bricked?Last night my computer did its normal thing and shut down after being ~10% charged, but when I went to plug it in, & restart it it hung up on the splash screen for a while. I thought it was just extremely dead, so I turned it off again and let it charge for ~15 min, and when I turned it on for a 2nd time it lagged on the splash screen again, so I started button smashing. none of the F1-F12 keys did anything, but after I hit CTRL+ALT+DELETE the screne turned on and off & then I hit esc and it magically it booted up again. The next morning it worked fine, until I unplugged it and used it until it did its thing again and shut down at ~10% charged how I like it. And then it hung up again no F1-F12 keys do anything, the one touch recovery key just turns it on with the splash screen still stuck, and CTRL+ALT+DELETE makes the splash screne turn on and off for a second. If I leave it on it will stay on the splash screne indefinitly or until it dies, I've let it charge and discharge a few times and that changes nothing.   Some stats: Model: G580 20150 64 bit                             OS: windows 10 upgraded from 8 (unsupported I know)                 Processor: core i5 I've gathered it's either bios issue or a hdd issue, but all the form posts here are for windows 7, so I can't really go by that. The Li Polymer battery that is inside your main "battery case" is managed by a small electronics board or "smart" board that regulates power drain and charge to optimize battery run time and life span.  Running it flat then recharging is not a bad idea, but run battery diagnostics from the Lenovo Energy Manager and see if it needs to be replaced.
Windows 10 is still a bit buggy in many ways, so this may be the result of a driver or other software hanging up at boot time and not really based on hardware issues.  Try updating drivers, check BIOS settings and run diagnostics, then report back with findings.
Good luck.

I updated all the drivers I could find to see if it would get better but didnt work.
This problem was getting worse and worse until one day I got another blue screen error "CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED". After that it rarelly boots and usually just stay stuck on the Dell splash screen. Also when booting it does a lot of beeping sounds (more than 4) and something that seems like HD or disc reading (that is no disk inserted)
I have already tried a few thing from this forum:
* Unplug all power sources and battery, hold down the power button and reboot.
* Change a BIOS setting from SMART Intel Boot (something like that) to AHCI and then back.
* Reseat the memory
But its getting really hard to retry anything because when its stuck in the splash screen i can`t even access the BIOS.
I would really appreciate any help =D

I have a dell desktop that got a virus so I wiped it out and was going to reinstall it. Now when I start it up, it sticks on the dell splash screen and will not boot to the CD drive or hard drive. I put the HD in another computer and installed windows again on it but when I put it back in my dell, it still does not read it or boot up to it. So, I know it is not a bad HD.

I tried removing the battery from the motherboard for a few minutes to reset everything. That did not work. I also tried unplugging all other devices (usb's, cd/dvd drives, floppy drive, etc) and starting up. That did not work either.

I checked the BIOS settings and it is set to boot to the hard drive so I am completely lost and am up for trying anything! Thanks for any help you may have.

Hi all,
For the second time in three months a Dell laptop of mine just freezes at the Dell splash screen. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Dell, but having to keep looking at it when I kinda want to get to work  .... you know what I mean.

So, what happened? Wife boots up the laptop this morning, gets the "disk checking" message and decides after a few minutes that she isn't waiting any longer and does a hard power off (keeping power button pressed). She then tries to boot up the laptop again and .... it won't get past the splash screen.
What I have tried:1. Pressing F2 for setup2. Pressing F12 for boot options3. Opening DVD drive and booting4. Remove the battery and keep power button pressed to discharge staticNormally, my next option would be to break the warranty seal and just rip out the HDD and try to plug it into another device. But perhaps you all have another solution? Can't imagine that I'm the first one that this happened to.
And FYI: the other laptop that this happened to (Dell Studio XPS M1540) ended up with a useless HDD with unrecoverable data.

Thank you for writing on Dell CommunityI would suggest that you run the diagnostics on the computer by following the steps mentioned below and check if there is any issue with the hardware on your system.4.    Turn on or restart the computer. 5.    Immediately at the Dell logo screen, starting tapping the <F12> key once a second until the One Time Boot menu appears (if the computer boots to Windows turn the computer off and try again). 6.    At the One Time Boot menu, press the <Down> arrow key to highlight Diagnostics, PSA+ or Enter ePSA, then press <Enter> to begin the hardware Diagnostics.
Write down any error codes listed. Reply to us with the error codesLet us know your findings.

Hey, so i have a problem with my computer.
I have a Dell inspiron 530 running vista 32-bit. The computer was working fine when yesterday morning it got stuck on the dell splash screen. My sister even managed to make it work by simply turning it on, but after i shut it down and tried to boot it again this morning, it got stuck again. I haven't done anything new other than installing drivers for a wireless network adapter and installing WoW, and it worked fine after that. I cannot press F2, F8 or F12 when stuck at the splash screen.
This is what i have tried out already:
1. Booting with all peripherals unplugged (except monitor, mouse and keyboard)
2. Turning the power off while its attempting to boot.

what do i do?

Hi everyone,

I've run into a problem and I'm hoping someone can help. I've run into a roadblock and I'm not sure what to do next.

I found a motherboard and CPU that wasn't being used (new in box). Older LGA1156, but hey, still usable. Anyway, I had some other components and someone just gifted me a new video card, so I thought I'd throw a system together. Assembly went smoothly without issue.

The problem;
When I try to install W7Pro, the install gets to the point where it's just finished copying the files and is starting the splash screen before freezing (or occasionally rebooting). I've been going out of my mind the last few days trying to figure out how to fix this. I've reseated everything (CPU, RAM, video card, cables) with nothing working. I've tried another disk as well. Nothing has worked.

I decided to stick an XP CD (SP2). THAT installed without a hitch. So I'm really stuck as to how to proceed. I'm hoping someone here can give me some insight into where the problem might be.

The details;
Intel DQ57TML w/ Core i5.
80Gb SSD hard drive (and I've also tried a traditional HD as well)
Sapphire R7/260X
Windows 7 Pro (pre-SP1)
800w PS.
Internal DVDRW (tried external as well...same results)

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

How is the RAM broken up? 2 4GB SIMMs or 2 2GB SIMMs?
Try reducing the RAM to 2GB if you can. If not, then try 4GB. If same problem, swap the RAM and try again.

You can put all the RAM back after Win 7 is installed.

Got this new video card, which I was immediately displeased with as stated earlier. Hooked it up, which restored video and that's when I found that the computer would not boot past the BIOS splash screen. Gives the single beep, fans spin up like usual, then nothing. BIOS related buttons a few times with no response, it starts a "clicking" noise whenever pressing them. Still doesn't progress past this screen.
Tried taking out the ram, that causes an error where the comp just makes continuous beeping noises (read that it giving an error is an indicator that the mobo is still good). Don't get any further disconnec... Read more

I have a project due online in 2 hours, and I can not get windows to boot or change BIOS settings.
Whenever my computer starts up, it just gets stuck on the Gigabyte splash screen.

I've tried just about everything and I am no longer convinced that it is a HDD issue.
It freezes when I enter the splash screen, so I can not go to BIOS settings or anything like that.

If it happened any time after today this would be fine with me, I would be patient.
But I can't afford a 0 on this project, especially after I already worked so hard on it and all I had to do was make the finishing touches.

If anyone could help me out at all, I would appreciate it so much.

When I boot up I get the : Your computer shut down improperly Repair or boot normally. Nothing happens it goes through boot up process and stops at the splash screen just prior of windows actual load up.

So far I have tried: DaRT - Have CD drive as 1st boot option hear it start up but nothing.
Safe Mode will not load. I can get to safe mode option but when I attempt to load in to windows through safe mode it stops and the cycle starts over again.
Then I tried Dell Windows restore doing the F8 advanced Repair windows but it doesnt do anything I do not get any options beyond that. It goes into boot up and sticks at splash screen.
I tested the CD drive with a Win 98 disk thinking do a BCwipe but being a 64bit system I failed. I can not find the c:\ but it did tell me my CD drive was working.
I have a burned windows7 disk but it doesnt read on this desktop.

What happened I dont know I was in Iraq and wife said she put a game on the system Witcher2 and shortly after that the system did this.

System: Dell Inspiron 560 Windows 7 64bit.

Any help would be great. Thank you

This is a question about Windows 7 Operating System. I notice, every once in a while, when I boot up, the display gets stuck on the BIOS splash screen. Then I manually turn my computer off.....wait a minute before booting back up. Then the BIOS screen only displays for a second or so, then proceeds with the boot up process. Is this indicate that my Operating System might've gotten corrupt ? My Operating System is : Windows 7 Professional / 32-bit.

Hi, my boyfriend's laptop is a Toshiba Satellite. About 3 weeks ago he spilled coffee in it. I got it cleaned up and working perfectly. Then, about week and half ago, he spilled a BIG glass of milk in it. The whole screen went nuts. There were colored bands, dots, stuttering etc. I had him shut it down, unplug it etc.. I tried to open it, managed to get the HD out of it and battery. There were 2 screws stuck in it that I could not get out, although they did not appear to be stripped.

His dad took it to the shop he got it from, the woman had it for a day and said it was fixed. He picked it up yesterday. We just opened it a little bit ago and the desktop was ok, some of the keys were not working though. The A key if you press it, it makes continuous letter AAAAAAAAAA. I had him plug in my extra keyboard and that fixed that issue.

The mouse pad on it is also not working so I had him plug in my extra mouse. All went well there too.

The woman at the computer shop put AVG Antivirus on it, which always seemed to give it issues the last time it was on there when he first got the laptop so we had again uninstalled it this morning. It said it had to restart so he restarted it.

Now it is stuck on the screen.... TOSHIBA Leading Innovation >>> AMD Turion X2 64 and on the bar at the bottom it says...

I don't know if this is the right place to post this because I'm new here. Sorry if it's in the wrong place. Today I was updating the graphics driver and GeForce experience. Everything seemed to go fine with the graphics driver, but when I was updating GeForce experience, the installation hung at the very end so I force closed it. Now when I restarted the computer, windows hung at the splash screen. Now I can't get it to boot at all. I tried my recovery disk and windows install disk, and both of them also hang at the splash screen. They only boot successfully when I unplug the SSD that has the OS installed on it. Now I am stuck as to what to do next. I also tried resetting the bios and that didn't do anything either. Please help me. I need this computer for my homework and I am being forced to type this entire paragraph on my iPad right now.

I have now discovered that if I leave the computer on for around 5 minutes or so sitting on the splash screen, it does boot. This way worse than it used to be because I have an SSD. I used to see the splash screen for about 5 seconds before the computer would continue to boot into windows. So any help diagnosing the problem would be appreciated. I am now running chkdsk and I will post the results when it is finished.

So yesterday I got a GeForce GTX 960 4GB to install into my PC. However after installing it and all that jazz, my computer gets stuck on the BIOS splash screen and beeps. The beeps are one short beep, then 30 seconds later a short beep followed by 3 shorter beeps.

I know for a fact that it isn't my RAM because I can put my old card in and everything works fine. I also have a VisionTek 450w dedicated GPU power supply that takes up a CD reader slot so power consumption is totally fine.

I tried updating my bios, but there doesn't seem to be an update available. So at this point I think I need a new motherboard.

My specs are as follows;

Motherboard: Pegatron IPISB-CH2

BIOS: AMI 7.12

CPU: Intel Core i5-2320 (Sandybridge) (95W), 3.0 GHz

HDD: 1 TB WD Harddrive that I bought 2 months ago

GPU before: GTX 650 Ti 1 Gb

After: GTX 960 4GB

Thanks for all the help!

So at this point I think I need a new motherboard.Click to expand...

This makes no sense at all. If you reinstall your old card and everything works, why in the world would you think you need a new mb???
That scenario points at a failed or DOA card NOT a failed mb.

If you are intent on gaming, I would give serious consideration to building a gaming system. Big box systems like dell, hp, etc are fine for what they are intended to do; email, run office, watch videos, etc. The hardware is just not up to the stress of gaming. There is more to a gaming system than simply installing a video card and a pw supply.

I have just inherited a very nice Toshiba Portege z830 10p. I have gradually been setting it up for use. During this process, I occasionally had trouble with it not rebooting and not coming out of hibernation/sleep.

It is now in a state where when you switch it on the Toshiba logo appears on screen and the fan goes into overdrive, sounding like it's about to take off.

I can't get it to boot into the BIOS setup screen. Though I have previously been in there and even updated the BIOS.

I have pulled it apart to check for loose connections, dirt and dust and all appears ok.

What are my next steps or do I just write it off?

Looking on the Toshiba support website it would appear that it is still under warranty: - see below. I wonder if this is void now though.

It's worth pointing out that a few of the external ports are showing some sign or corrosion though the motherboard/battery and other internals all appear to be intact.

A:Portege Z830 - Stuck on Toshiba splash screen with fan

I guess the warranty isn’t valid anymore because you have already disassembled the notebook for cleaning…

Regarding the notebook’s booting problem: to me it looks like the issue could be related to hardware malfunction… if you are not able to access the BIOS and if the notebook freezes while showing the Toshiba logo, then the problem might be related to motherboard problems…

It seems that the POST (power on self-test) cannot be passed properly and usually this can be caused by motherboard (or parts like RAM) malfunction.

Alright, so my buddy brought over his computer for me to fix. The problem was that when it was booted, there was no display on the monitor in which the cable was plugged into the video card. I plugged in the cable to the onboard video card, got a display. Next was that I could not get past the boot screen. I got an error code "5A" on the intel mobo. So I checked out everything I could, tried resetting the CMOS unplugged everything except bare necessities (memory, mobo, display, fans) but still couldn't get it to work. I then tried swapping the mobo with a brand new Gigabyte one which was compatible with all the parts and it's still not working. Again, I reset the CMOS by taking out the battery for 15 minutes and still nothing. I tried to swap the memory from my computer to his and I don't even get the splash screen. So I'm stumped as to why I'm stuck on the splash screen and my keyboard won't even function so I can't configure the BIOS. PS/2 keyboard btw. And I did try to put the Windows 7 CD in to see if I could boot from that and that didn't work either. I think I've covered all the bases so if anyone has the solution, I'd be pretty grateful.

Anyway, this is what I've narrowed it down to:

It's not the HDD, I tested it on my own computer and it shouldn't have anything to do with setting up the BIOS anyway.

It's not the motherboard, I put in a brand new one just to make sure.

I have a friend away at school who called and said her computer won't start up. It is a Compaq . She gets the Compaq splash screen, with the F1 for setup, F10 for SystemRecovery, and it gets stuck there.

Pressing F1 on startup gets her "Entering Setup" and then it just sits there. Pressing F10 on startup does nothing at all.

The pc is not giving any beeps as they sometimes do when having a startup problem, nor is she hearing any odd sounds from the tower (hard drive clicking, etc).

Thoughts on what the cause for this sudden meltdown of her pc?

Hi Useless User and welcome to Tenforums.

You can disable Skype for Business from starting with Windows permanently, by opening Task Manager; under the Startup tab, select the app and click the Disable button.

Alternately, you can go to All Settings> System>Apps & features, highlight Skype Meetings App, and select Uninstall.

Hope that helps!

I followed a fix that involved:
1. Press "Windows key + R".
2. Type wsreset.exe and click OK.

I did that and the splash screen came up. I then waited past the suggested 15 mins and then I got this error:

Now every time I try to access the store, it just freezes for a few then pops up with that last error.

A cursed ASUS laptop - I've posted about it elsewhere in these forums - was working tonight, has worked fine for about 7-8 weeks, and then when it was put to sleep by closing it, upon being opened, would only display the ASUS splash screen (the first thing one sees when turning it on - basically a black screen and the word ASUS).

The computer turns off fine with the power button. Turns on fine too, but gets no farther than the splash screen. No POST beeps, nothing at the bottom of the screen saying how to get to setup or anything.

If a bootable DVD is inserted and the computer started, there are some noises like the computer hardware is interacting with the DVD (sorry, I'm not sophisticated enough to describe the noises, other than to say I never hear the DVD start to spin fast), but then 5-10 seconds later the noises stop and it's just the splash screen again and nothing else.

Odd laptop charger behavior, culminating in sparking last night describes the last issues with this computer, which were seemingly fixed about two months ago with the replacement of the motherboard.

It's going back to the shop, but I'm wondering about any intelligent suggestions as to what's wrong here.

Obviously the "repair/replace" teeter-totter is inexorably tipping toward replace.

A:ASUS laptop stuck at splash screen - won't boot from HD or DVD

Google is my friend. Took a lot of poking, but Stuck on asus logo on startup?? - FixYa suggests the following:

Same problem here with my wife's Asus laptop. Called Asus and they said to unplug charger, remove the battery in the back, hold down the power button for 10 seconds. Then, replace battery, then charger, then press the power button and wait for startup. First time it got stuck at the windows loading bar screen for like 5 min. which is abnormal. Did a hard power down (press and hold power button til it shuts off) then restarted again. That time it worked and all is well so far. Could have been due to a static charge as she was on our couch with our dog backing up movies so charge might have entered through the CD/DVD drive opening. (?) Not sure, but if you are sitting on a static-prone couch with your laptop its probably best to sit on top of a bounce sheet.

I did that and it worked.

I'll mark the thread as solved a few days down the road if no further incidents.

Meanwhile - any comments on what might have led to this situation?

I was using it fine a few minute ago then while i was using winamp i accidently hit the shortcut key to log me off windows - when i tried to go back in by clicking my name it thought about it for a few seconds then gave me a blue screen maybe 3 or 4 lines of writing with a number at the start.

The thing is it disappears really quickly so I can't tell what it's saying.

I went to the boot menu thing and tried safe-mode and starting windows with last good config but nothing is working. It still gives me the writing and blue screen no matter what I do.

I've unplugged it as well to give it a cold boot but nothing is happening.

Does anyone know what the blue screen might be saying to me or anyway to fix this?

Is it software or something much worse?

My next idea is to whack my windows cd in and try to repair it but I just know I'm goign to need to reformat or something

Thanks in advance

windows will generate a minidump file for every bsod it comes up with. they are stored in the %systemroot%/minidump folder of the hdd. if you can access safe mode, zip 5-6 of a few recent ones and post them here. alternatively if you cant, then use a Linux Live CD like Knoppix to copy that and also your important data, just in case. post the attachment here ( and someone here can read it..

Brand new Dell Precision M4700. You can restart or shutdown the laptop at numerous times and on occassion the laptop gets stuck at the splash screen (where the windows come together), and will sit there for hours on end. Sometimes a single hard reset will allow it to boot, and be on it's merry way.

System runs great once it boots into Windows.

I'm not running any external drives on it. I've encountered issue on and off docking station, or running on power and or battery.

M4700 with core i7, 16 GB Ram, Quadro K2000M, 256 GB Seagate OEM SSD.

I checked hard drive with HDTune, and it checked out okay, except for 1 communication error, so to be on the safe side, I had the drive replaced. Still did it.

Did a repair installation of W7, still doing it. There's nothing different installed on this machine that isn't the exact same as the M4600s at the office..

Is there a log that can be looked at, and or turned on to see what's causing it to hang at the splash screen? A few times it will go past the splash screen, but never displays the welcome screen (displays just a black screen).

I'm almost tempted to ask for a replacement board

Hey all,
So i'm having this weird problem. None of the stock metro app will work on my system (weather, news etc')
It will just get stuck on splash screen. It worked a few days ago. Started reading about it on the forum and this is what I've done so far:

1. I don't have Avast or any antivirus installed yet.
2. Tried refreshing Windows, I'm getting an error saying Windows couldn't refresh and no changes were made.
3. Uac is on default
4. Windows Firewall service is set to be Running and Automatic
Annoyed and tired I added another language to windows that will change the display UI etc', I added Hebrew, resarted my machine and the metro apps now WORKS but, in Hebrew. Switched back to english, metro apps doesn't work. Tried adding other types of English (Canada etc') still no go.

My stock Metro apps will work only in Hebrew display mode.

Any help would be great.

A:metro apps stuck splash screen - I can force them to work kinda

Today when I was trying to turn on my PC, it got stuck at the BIOS splash screen, I couldn't get into the boot menu as well. I thought about it, and felt that there could be a number of problems, RAM, HDD, etc. (some hardware issue), so I thought I would try disconnecting hardware from my mobo in a trial and error fashion to figure out which was the culprit. I managed to get past the BIOS splash screen and into the boot menu when i disconnected one of my HDDs (it’s a seagate 1TB barracuda). I'm trying to figure out what went wrong with it, but cannot run somehing like chkdsk on it as it is impossible to get past the BIOS splash screen when its SATA cable is connected to the mobo.

Can i get some advice on how i can narrow down the cause of this issue? Also coincidentally, I was defragmenting that HDD yesterday and another one of my family members turned off the PC while the process was still on-going. I'm not too sure if this has caused an issue, but it might help with the diagnosis?
Feel free to check my profile for system specs, also i don't have another desktop only laptops.

A:Stuck at BIOS splash screen, suspected hard drive issue.

There are 2 cables that go to the problem hard drive, data and power. Try this test: Remove the data cable but leave the power cable connected, then try to boot.
If the problem persists with just the power connected then I'm afraid the drive has an electrical problem. Very difficult to fix without taking it apart on a workbench.

However, if the PC boots with the drive powered but the data cable not connected, then you may be able to fix it if you can get into Windows.

The B-85 has a UEFI BIOS, so I will assume that you have AHCI capability and the SATA controller is set to AHCI Mode.
This means that you have the capability to 'hot swap' drives.
You would make sure that the SATA port that you will connect the drive to is set up for hot swapping in BIOS, then boot the computer without the drive connected, get into Windows, and then connect the drive.
If that works and you don't crash then you could start testing by running CHKDSK on it.

I got stuck in the Windows 8 update loop and had to restore my computer to factory settings. When this happened to me a year ago I just updated to windows 10 and had no problems. So I got out of the windows 8 update loop by restoring to factory settings then downloading windows 10. Windows 10 installed then restarted my computer. Now my computer is stuck on the Lenovo screen with no loading circle or cursor and I cannot access BIOS.Here's a list of the things I tried:Ctrl + Alt + DelF1, F4, F8 - Repeatedly tapping and HoldingRemoving and replacing batteryTurning on with only AC cable and no batteryRemoving DVD driveTurning it on upside downRemoving AC cord and battery, holding power button for 15 seconds-30seconds - 40seconds and replacing power and turning onRemoving and replacing RAM And right now I unplugged it from AC power and I'm trying to drain the battery. If anybody has any suggestions please let me know. I'm a college student my life basically depends on my laptop. This did not happen when I upgraded to windows 10 last year and i still have the same computer.

Hi Shadowraze ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
Ultrabay swappable drive bay in the ThinkPad range of laptop computers and some of IdeaPad Y Series laptops. Graphics cards would not be recognized by the BIOS unlike y410p/y510p .

My son accidentally got his leg caught in the cord of his laptop when he got up and the laptop  fell approximately 2 feet to the tile floor.  It boots up but stays on the Lenovo splash screen.  If I go into the BIOS and select System Recovery it goes through the "Loading files..." process, the Lenovo splash screen appears with the dots going in a circle but, then after about 2 minutes of that the screen just goes black.  If I tilt the screen forward or back I can tell it is still backlit just with nothing to display.  Anything we can try?

Hi Puneet,
Welcome to Lenovo Forums.
We are really sorry to hear about the issue you are facing.
Firstly, Check BIOS? Sometimes a BIOS has fan speed controls.
This is normal as the game is running and full GPU is utilized, if the temp increases more than normal.  I suggest you to use the Laptop by placing it on a flat surface for good ventilation.
Please go through the below link to understand about Safe Temperature range for CPU?
