Help please -- BROWSER EU Chice kills IE and doesn't offer IE10

Q: Help please -- BROWSER EU Chice kills IE and doesn't offer IE10

Hi there
I've tried to KILL this wretched browser questionnaire - I'm using W8 Enterprise RTM ( X-64) from TechNet -- US version.

If I click Continue --IE just offers all sorts of B/S about IE9 (nothing about IE10) and just Hangs if I try and go further.

If I delete the whole wretched piece of B/S I just get prompted again the next time I connect to the Internet.

What's up here -- I got my copy of W8 from a LEGAL subscription -- US, my registration is Iceland -- not yet (and maybe never) a part of the EU -- at least not until after a forthcoming referendum, but just because I logon on via a Hotel's wifi system in Brussels I get prompted for this B/S browser stuff.

OK if it works but at least it should offer current versions like IE10.

The whole thing is total nonsense anyway --but at least it SHOULD WORK.

My browser is currently IE10 -- I don't need all this B/S to install IE9.

Screenshot enc.

Cheers
jimbo

Hi jimbo,
Have you tried uninstalling the Browser Choice Screen Update(KB976002)?

I have Windows 7 on an HP Pavil ion DM4 Intel core i5 laptop. When I'm using Firefox with several tabs open, I usually have Yahoo email client open in the first tab. When I come back to the Yahoo tab, it frequently has changed to a screen that either has a Full-screen to an "update Firefox" or to update Adobe Flash Player. I have not clicked on either because it seems pretty hokey to me, because a genuine update is usually displayed when I reboot the computer. The URL for the Adobe Flash Update screen is

And I can't get rid of it. As usual, virus scans detect it, delete/fix it, but it ends up coming back. Can't do a system restore (though I wish I could), and I've tried many methods. Besides HijackThis, which I shall resort to if nothing else works, is there something I can do to get rid of this annoying virus?

Sorry if this is a repeat but I could not find the answer. I'm sure it was somewhere on this forum.

IE 10 has stopped showing any description at the top of the page. How can I get it back? Not a big problem but I'd appreciate any clue to what I did wrong.

To be clear the blue bar at the top used to say "Internet Explorer - not responding" now it is just blue.

Thanks, Adam

I have a client with a very strange problem which I can replicate on several computers other than theirs. IE will open the website. You can close IE reopen and go back to the site. However if you click a link to website within a Word 2010 document or Excel spreadsheet IE gives an error that the page can not be displayed. If you then close IE and Word, reopen IE and try to go to the site it says page can not be displayed. If you wait apporx 30 min and try again IE will display the page. But if you reopen Word or Excel, click the link you get the same error again and IE will not open the page. This issue only happen with this particular site, no others. The other interesting part is once one computer on the network errors out no computer on the same network can access the site either for approx. 30 min.

The same link works fine in Outlook. All computers are using Win7 64.

I have a computer with Office 2003 on it and everything works fine.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

A:Word Hyperlink Kills Website in Browser

I would probably have to have a copy of the markup and the file in front of me. It seems like something is cached or a cookie is stored upon attempting to go to that page, because it doesn't make sense that the issue expires after approximately half an hour...wait, what?!

This just blows me away... but I have a thought!
Were all the several computers that you replicate the issue on tied to the same or similar networks as the initial one?

A:Flash player doesn't work in IE10 on windows 8

Have you installed Flash Player for IE as well as for Chrome/Firefox.  They are separate installs and so need to be installed separately in IE and in Chrome or Firefox (there is one version of Flash Player for all plugin based browsers).  If you have Flash Player for IE installed try resetting Internet Explorer - see below.

Close all Internet Explorer and Explorer windows that are currently open.

Reopen Internet Explorer.

Click the Tools button , and then click Internet options.

Click the Advanced tab, and then click Reset.

In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset.

When Internet Explorer finishes applying default settings, click Close, and click OK. You'll need to restart your PC for these changes to take effect.

I own a Gateway GT5228 Desktop PC with a 64-bit version of Window 7 Home Premium installed and I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find driver updates for my PC? I've been receiving an error (Event 12, HAL) in the event viewer indicating that "The platform firmware has corrupted memory across the previous system power transition. Please check for updated firmware for your system" My PC originally came with a 32-bit version of Windows XP preinstalled but I recently upgraded to Windows 7 64-bit about a year ago. I've already checked gateway.com but they don't offer any driver updates for PC's with Windows 7 installed so what other options do I have concerning device driver updates for my PC if Gateway doesn't offer them?

Have you tried one of these sites?

1)The first site comes with a: Download Hardware Vendor Detection Utility

2) http://livesupport.maybenow.com/Gateway/Gateway-GT5228-PC-Desktop-pr111435

I recently upgraded to IE 10 on my Windows 7 64 bit system. I have the most current Google Toolbar. I use the Autofill to fill in my e-mail address on various login screens. It works on some websites but not on others where it worked with IE9. An example is the Windows (Microsoft) Live login screen. Does this have to with the "tracking" feature introduced in IE 10?

A:Google Toolbar Autofill Doesn't Detect Fields Properly in IE10

ie10 added a feature if you notice it next to the password entry where if you click on the eye symbol you can see your actual password and not the dots,
It might be related ?
I don't use form fills or saved user name and password features in either ie10 or google toolbar so it's difficult to say,
All I can say is I'm sure your familiar with active x filtering and the Blue circle with the slash through it as an indicator it's on.
You can go to Internet options/ Advanced section/ And scroll down and see if Always send no tracking header ids checked I believe it's a default setting.
You might even test with the F12 key/ Browser mode and see if your using ie10 or comp-view and switch.

Hi!
I'm having a problem with a laptop (DELL Vostro 1510 - Windows 7 Professional 32bit)
The computer was infected by a Rogue like a year ago, I took it to a computer repair shop, and fixed it.
Few months later I started having issues with IE, works fine for an hour or two, and then (The program stopped responding)... until it was doing it all the time.

Took it back to the computer repair shop, and did a clean up, and uninstalled IE, and reinstalled it.
It was working fine for two weeks... and then it started to do it again.
I use IE for a few hours, or minutes (Random) and then IE Stopped responding!

I downloaded SF Diagnostic Tool
But after I run it (From desktop) as an administrator, and click on GRAB ALL, I have that error message:
(I disabled Norton antivirus) so I can't even post the log...
Can you please help me find out about that issue? or what do I have to do from now?

Hi again!
I tried to run the different operations from SF Diagnostic Tool separately, one by one.
All worked, except for MINIDUMP
So I joined the event viewer logs inside a folder... And there is all logs, except for the Minidump
I don't know if that will help
I hope that someone will help me a little

Hi. I just updated my W7 64 bit Ult, and as a result now have IE10.

When I start a d/l, and close the browser and d/l window (ctrl+j), the d/l pauses. If I reopen the d/l window, I see it says paused, and then i can resume. A PITA, if you ask me.

Is there any way be able to close both windows and have the d/l continue and not pause? I looked in the IE settings, but did not see anything.

Thanks.

A:How do I change my Browser Mode: from IE10 to IE9

It should be listed in Installed Updates where you would right click on it then select Uninstall.

This should revert you back to IE9 or IE8, but if you have a restore point prior to upgrading - then you can use that method which will also remove any programs or other Windows updates which have been installed since, so use the Scan for affected programs before effecting the restore.

Windows Updates may auto prompt for their reinstall or you can use Check for Updates in Windows Updates and vet that you don't get any for IE10.

Not a huge problem as I can and do use another browser most of the time. I am curious as to why this has occurred more than anything?

Has anyone else noticed this?

After I installed Windows 8, I used the metro IE10 to pin my most used websites tot the metro startmenu. I like the look of it with te icons.
I didn't like ie10 so I installed the Chrome metro app as default browser.

Now all the website icons are replaced by the IE10-logo and they all open in the desktop IE10.

I would like to open these bookmarks with Chrome metro app.

Is it possible to pin favorite websites tot the startmenu with Chrome and more importantly, open these with Chrome?

OK, let's see.

Launch IE > Click the gear icon on the top right > Click "Internet Options"

Now click "Accessibility" under Appearance in the General tab.

Make sure everything is unchecked. Does that help?

hi there,

I am thinking to upgrade to IE10 since i just understood that some BASIC functionalities of gmail are gone (cannot attach multiple files, cannot see progress during attachment) after they introduced this lovely "new compose", so either i switch email or i need to upgrade from IE9.

Personally i like IE9, is fast and works OK, occasionally i get the "this tab has stopped working" with the RED x but is no big deal, happens rarely.

After all, IE10 has been around for a while now and i bet that there's been several patches for it so i'd like how it's working right now, and if there are any major issues with it.

Many Thanks

Good afternoon. Yesterday, I downloaded an update for my husband's HP printer onto his computer. At the same time, it downloaded BING, which we have never used. After that, we noticed his firewall was off, and we were unable to get it turned back on. Also, we cannot download any security. And his home page has changed. We are unable to change it back. We have Microsoft security essentials which runs regularly. In doing some research, it appears his browser has been hijacked.

Can someone please help me get his computer UN-hijacked? http://www.sevenforums.com/images/smilies/confused.gif

A:IE10 browser hijacked. Unable to load firewall or download programs.

Here are some things you might want to try:
1. Run a full scan on Security Essentials? If so, did you find any viruses?
2. Go to Start>Run>msconfig and go to the startup tab and make sure that only the items that are important (eg. Windows 7, Intel Software, Microsoft Security Essentials) items are selected; you may also be able to find the item if it has made a shortcut here.
3. Try going into safe mode and see if anything changes.
4. What you may also want to do is to get Malwarebytes and perform a scan: Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware download

So yesterday automatic Windows update installed IE10, today I noticed that links in certain applications open in IE10 instead of my configured default browser, which every link from this or any other application used to open in before that update and the reboot that followed the update.
I checked the Default Programs section in the system control panel, expecting maybe Microsoft wanted to get themselves in any more trouble with the EU and changing the default to IE. This was not the case however, all the associations were still pointing to the configured default browser, I noticed however I could not uncheck the defaults already set.
So despite the obvious configuration being correct, links would still open in IE10 even after yet another reboot.
I went ahead and checked the registry associations, and found that http(s) protocol as well as htm(l) filetypes were associated with Internet Explorer with various EditFlags set (presumably to prevent changing them through the user interface, or to ignore the user interface settings).

Seriously Microsoft? Don't you have enough trouble yet?

I have problem with Muliple Broswer tabs (self) opening & pointing to microsoft.com "IE10 start here" pages and when using Outlook it goes to MSOFFICE.com "start here" pages when trying to type in Outlook emails. It is quite something to see over a hundred cascading windows trying to get you started with Welcome to Microsoft Internet Explorer 10... and another one is the go.microsoft.com

Same problem whether typing any characters in the search engine boxes on IE10 or google chrome. New tabs open "by themselves" and attempt/redirect to go to start MSN/Bing pages. They dont all load fully and new tabs open. Over 180 tabs "self-opened" last time in google chrome. I tried google chrome after having this happen in IE10 - so it seems to be a windows 8 issue. Maybe other programs are affected but ive only tried Outlook 2010 and Web Browsers...thats enough for now!

This is a new HP Desktop PC with factory fresh windows 8 Home premium and MSOffice Pro Plus 2010 install. Have changed all browsers to home page of google but IE10 or chrome if i make it the defalut browser and still self opens and tries to go to MS start pages.

I closed IE10 and/or chrome with task manager and created a dump file and also set windows error self reporting to auto (because it was set to manual by default) and it should be running self error reporting windows app like in previous Windoes versions but there is nio indication it is sending anything to MS. Thank you,

P.S.

is it possible that it got corrupted or do I need to change some setting to make it work. Thanks.

Hi,

Sorry if this has already been asked - I'm trying to catch up with developments and it seems easier asking rather than blundering my way between Metro and Normal mode.

For regular browsing I'm using IE10 from the normal Windows desktop. I find that if a program opens IE10, it opens the metro style IE10 (is that the right terminology?). For example, if I use Control Panel > Appearance and Personalisation to go get some online themes, I get this metro-style IE10 opening.

Is there way to turn off the Metro style IE10, and just use the classic one?

Regards,
Golden

ok, I believe this is due to some bad windows update, but there isn't a list that i can locate to uninstall.

I've already tried force uninstall all remnants,

using:

FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*9.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart"
---

after a reboot, I will get IE8., then I am able to only install ie10. (I've already tried installing ie9/ie11 with the antivirus uninstalled with no effect)

in the windows update screen.
ie11 fails with 9c59,
ie9 fails with 3715

When I run IE10, it will load up, for a while (white completely devoid of any text/icons/menu) then close with no error message (even in eventlog) , I've tried reset to default settings/restore advanced settings from control panel\internet options\advanced tab.

Ever since I installed Windows 7 Home Premium, firefox and other web browsers work, but no other apps can connect to the internet i.e. online games, itunes, anti-virus, Visual Studio, etc. I've disabled the firewall and anti-virus, but it doesn't help. I'm using a Belkin Wireless N Router and TP-Link TL-WN851N Wireless Adapter. The host uses Vista. The current security settings are: Open Connection with 64-bit WEP Encryption.
My sister has a netbook with Windows 7 Starter on it, but it has no problem.

my browsers won't connect to the Internet. I have tried netscape, IE, firefix. I get "websight not found, check Internet connection" My computer is directly connected through cable modem. No router or local network is used. The computer connection is intact and pings without problem. Sometimes the browser will connect for a short period of time and then quits. I do not have any installed toolbars. If I log into my VPN account, everything works fine, even if I close the VPN or use an incorrect password and am denied entry. I seem that all that is required is the configuration by the VPN. The browsers continue to work until the computer is rebooted. I have run antimalware, spybot, and avg without virus detected. I have had our head IT technition look at the computer and he is stumped. I no longer have the VPN connection so I have use a diffrent computer.
Any suggestions?

It goes like this. A friend of mine had Firefox, and today it decided not to work. It literally just ... bam, didn't work. The .exe file for Firefox won't even work! She doesn't have IE on her computer anymore, so that won't work either! She can connect to the internet, but since she doesn't have a browser, it's pretty much useless!

She needs some serious help with this. Does anyone know what to do? And no, she can't post a HiJack This log because she doesn't have a browser or a virus problem.

Thanks, Hard Drive C:

My browser sometimes when i search or enter a site address , gives me that web page cannot be displayed error . This happens with all browsers , it doesn't matter wich one i use. For example i get the error when i try to connect to microsoft.com , even if i use IE , Firefox or google chrome.
The thing is i had this problem before , and i solved it, but i can't remember exactly how :S .
I know i searched like 1000 pages , so i don't remeber where the solution is. I just know i have to deactivate in Command Prompt something related to the IP adress.
Maybe you guys know , because i really can't remember , and if i try to search again for it it will take me forever.

I just recently bought a laptop (the $378 one that Walmart had for sale the day after Thanksgiving). It's an HP ze2308wm. Everything seems to work on it and work well -- except for anything that has to do with the internet.

I plug the phone line into laptop and dial into my ISP. The ISP does it's normal "connecting" thing -- and then registers a connection by saying "Connected at..." (whatever rate it connects at). Everything is fine at that point.

It's here, however, where I am at a loss. I double click on IE to bring up the internet browser and it says "Page Cannot Be Displayed". I try to start MSN Messenger or any other chat program and it gives me a similar response -- "chat unavailable, try again later". Whatever I do, anything related to the internet won't come up -- yet the modem says i'm connected.

Anyone know a reason why this could be happening? It's a Windows XP Home Edition Laptop. Brand new, never been online -- had only Photoshop and Illustrator installed on it since I bought it.

Thanks!
Jamie

Specifying the ?default web browser? doesn't respond!

I got three web browsers in my machine, I wanted the ?Firefox? to be the default browser (attached).

The issue that the choice is switched automatically to the ?use my current web browser?

What might be the issue? How permanently the choice is specified to the ?Firefox??

Thank you

Best

Jamal

A:Specifying the “default web browser” doesn't respond!

I don't know if this will help, Jamal, but it won't hurt. Try running a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) This will check for any damaged or corrupt system files that might be preventing you from changing your default browser. If problems are found, run the scan 3 times and reboot the computer after each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Now try changing the default browser by clicking the Start button. In the start menu search box type in default program. Click on Set your default programs (upper section under Control Panel.) After a few seconds you should see a "Set your default programs" screen. Click on Firefox and it's information should display on the right side of the screen. Click on Set this program as default and you should see a confirmation message that "This program has all its defaults". You can now close out the Control Panel. To test if Firefox is set as the default browser, right-click on this link www.sevenforums.com and select Open in New Window. You should see this Forum's home page in Firefox.

Hi,

Running mozilla firefox one day pages like yahoo, cnet, and many more wouldn't load, while pages like google, imdb etc would load perfectly.

I tried AVG, Adaware, Spydoctor, NOD (even simultaneously) but it didn't detect nor fix the problem.Tried scanning in Safemode etc...

The weird part is that when i KILL the process: EXPLORER.EXE (of course the start bar etc disappears but in the mozilla window ALL sites load, and works perfectly)

Im assuming this is a virus like thing, but why isnt it being detected. Oh and i formatted once and reinstalled XP, and it happened again after a week!!!

Pls Help!!!

My brother recently updated windows, I don't know if that'll have anything to do with this problem. Any idea what it could be? So, the computer I'm on won't let IE or FF out the the internet. Pinging google (even tracert to google) returns packets.

The AT&T Yahoo browser DOES work to get out to the internet (it's where I"m posting this message). The lack of connection seems to also be preventing Malware-Bytes and AVG free from running their update process.

I ran a Malware-Bytes scan, found and fixed 5 objects. To no avail, however, because IE still wont' connect, nor will AVG.

I was thinking rootkit, but I've banged my head on this enough. Thank you in advance to whomever can help me!

-Adam

Sorry, I should have stated it's a Windows XP SP3 machine. IE version is 6, but I'm not sure that would matter. Malware Bytes is brand new d/l. AVG Free edition 8.

A:Browser doesn't see internet connection

Sounds like something is wrong with your local DNS then on your computer.

Go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Centre > (click on your connection whether it's ethernet or wireless connection) > properties > Networking Tab > scroll down to "Internet Protocol Version 4" and double click...

Now make sure the box that says "Obtain DNS server address automatically" is checked.

Hello,

My sister-in-law asked me to take a look at her HP notebook because she said she had a virus.

I have performed a full virus scan with AVG as well as scans with Spybot and Ad-aware.

It acts like it is pretty much clean now, however...

After you start the computer and try to load IE or Firefox, either browser just hangs there and doesn't load a page. After a moment or two, it is completely locked up. I can kill the browser process and reopen it and usually after repeating this 5 or 6 times, it will start working and appear to be relatively normal.

Any help would be appreciated. She can't find her recovery cd, so reinstalling will likely not be an option. Thanks.

I had zbot.gen before, and I thought I got rid of it through counterspy and a simple registry edit. However, counterspy had also picked up something else which it doesn't pick up anymore. Currently, McAfee won't scan (it crashes when I start the scan), and Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware won't start up.

I've heard Oprah coming out of my computer. Lovely.

My restore points are also gone. I've tried running things in safe mode, and re-installing Anti-Malware. Nothing will get rid of this thing. I did notice some odd hosts in a HJT log, and fixed them, so my hosts file was just edited a few hours ago.

EDIT TO ADD: When I boot in Safe Mode, my McAfee says that my protection isn't enabled, and, if I try to enable it, it gets an error. However, under normal mode, it's fine.

EDIT #2: I re-installed McAfee last night; didn't work. However, CounterSpy is coming up with a TDSS.aegg trojan this morning, as well as Bredolab.G trojan downloader.

Thanks in advance.

I am creating a website for a customer.
Temporary link is http://www.saturnwebsitedesign.com/clients/carbide/
The tagline in the header looks fine in all the 4 main browsers except AOL Explorer.
It is within two other divs and the line of code for the tagline is...
<div class="tagline" align="right">High Performance Cutting Tools</div>
The CSS is as follows...
.tagline **
font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", Times, serif;
font-size: 1.5em;
font-weight: normal;
color: #BBB;
letter-spacing: 2px;
padding: 100px 25px 0px 150px;
}
Any idea how to make this appear correctly in AOL Explorer as well?
Thanks.

A:[SOLVED] Tagline doesn't appear correctly in AOL Browser

I fixed this myself - the problem was in the div above, I had used a float.
Then this interfeared with the div below which overlapped.
The fix was to remove the float on the CSS page and align the div rign inline in the header in the template. That fixed the problem.

I've tried pretty much everything I could think of. I flushed and reregistered the dns. I tried resetting the ipv4 and ipv6. I tried using firefox, I tried an ethernet cable, I tried turning the router off for a good hour or two, I tried reinstalling chrome, I uninstalled Norton and all of its components, I tried reinstalling my AVG antivirus. And nothing. Verizon said that the internet was working on their end and then I called Microsoft and they redirected me to Toshiba. They said they could scan my computer for any malware or 3rd party software since safe mode with networking had no problem connecting. All I had to do was give them about 200 dollars to scan the computer for viruses. So can someone help? I've been having this problem for a good two weeks or so.

A:The computer says I'm connected but the browser doesn't work?

Run Symantec's Norton Removal Tool. Sometimes it needs to be run again after a Restart.

If still no go uninstall AVG and run the AVG Remover.

Everson Mono opens up good in FontView, but doesn't work in Safari or IE7 or Firefox, wow, everson mono becomes a serif typeface.

When you install Everson Mono, the font looks like this:

You hate Everson Mono:
Everson Mono.ttf can be renamed to eversonmo.ttf, but it's deleted.

Please try using Everson Mono Unicode instead of Everson Mono. Download Fix Fonts Folder.

You scanned Everson Mono.ttf with a free scanner from estsoft.

I've noticed something peculiar on this laptop recently. After I put my password into Windows at the start, shortly after the desktop background loads but before the icons do a window pops up and then vanishes before any text appears. Then the HitmanPro.Alert window opens to let me know that it is protecting Chrome appears and vanishes, as does the GMail notifier, but Chrome never opens. Today I noticed in the tray that Chrome is running in the background: I disabled that for now.

I am running Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit (this happened in 32-bit mode, too). I have ESET Smart Security 8.0.304.0 installed and also Hitman Pro and HitmanPro.Alert. None of these is reporting anything unusual. Has anyone seen this kind of behavior before?

Hi every one
This problem appears to be common, i found lots of threads with this issue, but no real solution
Few weaks ago i encounter similar problem. but then, only 50% of the time the browser didn't launch/crushed, this time i can't get chrome/firefox rolling, and IE also crushes often (this site, for example, crushed 3 times)

I didn't installed any program before, just got up at the morning and no browser working properly.

What i've tried so far:Unistall Norton (as one suggest at other forum)
Uninstall Chrome and reinstall it
Reboot computer
So, if anyone of you guys think he know what cause this problem, please let me know, as others can benefit from it also. I'll really appreciate that.

Thank you. Yaakov

This all seemed to start with plugging in a usb key. I created a topic in "Am I Infected?" ( Worried about keylogger )and a very helpful person (Blade) helped me verify I didn't have any malware. He suggested this forum as more appropriate. My first indication something was amiss was when playing the card game Hearts, the focus would pulse thru each of my cards very rapidly. I was able to select a card if I repeatedly clicked on it while moving the mouse. Similar behaviorr in all card games included with Win7. After rebooting the card game behavior might clear up, but restarting the game would bring the behavior back. Noticed going onto the NFL web site that I could open a link to report a post and selct the type of offense and type in a comment, but the SUBMIT button would not work. This has not been a problem in the past. Any help would be appreciated.

...all the while being connected via dial-up. In other words, I can dial-up to the internet and be connected, but my browser may or may not load pages. It becomes a trial-and-error thing, where if the browser doesn't load the pages, I disconnect from the internet and reconnect. Eventually, I'll get a "good connection" and be able to search the 'net. Initially, I thought I was "Working Offline" while I was connected to the 'net.

To clarify: I always have a working connection to the 'net. It's just a matter of whether MSIE "wants" to load the pages or not.

Before yesterday, I never had a problem with it; I would connect to the 'net and BOOM!, I'd be ready to go. I should also say that I was working with files in the C:\WINDOWS directory...messing with files and whatnot. I think what may be causing the unsavory behavior is that I touched, moved, altered, something that I shouldn't have and now it's giving the browser problems. It's my sister's computer...help!

A:Temperamental browser sometimes works/doesn't work (m)

The first thing you can try is a repair of IE. If your version is 5.5 go to the Start button > Run and copy and paste the command below exactly as you see it:

rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE5Maintenance "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\
Setup\SETUP.EXE" /g "C:\WINDOWS\IE Uninstall Log.Txt"
If the browser version is IE 6 the command instead would be:

rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\
Setup\SETUP.EXE" /g "C:\WINDOWS\IE Uninstall Log.Txt"

When the small box pops up be sure to check it to Repair the browser.

I previously registered with a website, and everything has been fine until now. The website now cannot log me in, and says that my browser (IE 7)does not accept script cookies. I'd lowered the security level to Medium, and added the website to the safe list for cookies, regardless of privacy policy. And it still doesn't work!! Anyone got an idea what it could be, or how to solve it? Thx.

A:My browser doesn't accept script cookies? Please help

I have absolutely no experience with IE7, so can`t solve your problem with it. However, if you were to try a different browser such as Firefox, this may at least solve your problem with that particular website.

Recently I discovered that windows update on my computer doesn't work anymore. When I tried to access Windows Update page , all I got is: "This webpage is not available." in google chrome. In Internet Explorer when I try the windows update link, the browser keeps closing and restarting with no success. If trying to google about this problem concerning windows update issues I also get the browser closing and restarting. Also no succes in Mozzila Firefox nor in Apple Safari. I tried all browsers with no success: windows update page is not working ( Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage), neither is it possible to update form Windows, I just can't get updates to work no matter I do.

When I tried to run Combofix to see the results, the computer freezes and I need to shutdown and restart.
I scanned my computer with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and I didn't get any objects infected.
What advice can you give me?
Thanks in advance.

PS: also on this page in this post when I tried to paste the windows update adress(link) I could not post, I get "This webpage is not available." in chrome.
In Safari: Safari can’t open the page “http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?”. The error is: “unknown error” (kCFErrorDomainWinSock:10052)
And it is only because I pasted the adress of windows update site I could not post it no matter what browser I use.

Some websites don't load properly on Firefox and IE...?
My default browser is Firefox, and since last week both browsers fail to load deviantart.com and tv.com properly. First, it takes forever to load. Second, it does not load properly, (tables aren't there, pictures don't load properly, etc)

Help!

I am able to access both sites using a proxy, but I'd prefer a permanent solution. I used to surf both sites often previously. :S Now I'm unable to do so.

A:My browser doesn't open a couple of webpages which I could access before

I have been having the same problem as you, so you're not alone. I was using FF 3.1b1, so, thinking it was an issue with that version of FF, I uninstalled it and rolled back to a previous version.. 3.0.3; unfortunately though I'm still having the problems.

But, since I already have a thread going, I'll get to it when my first issue has been resolved.

Sorry I couldn't be of any help, just wanted to let you know you're not alone.

EDIT:
Just thought I'd mention, what I do is clear out my cache when this problem arises, and it fixes the problem, but only temporarily. Usually within an hour or two, I'll get the same problem- no css elements applied to the site what so ever; everything out of alignment.. so it's temporary fix, but by no means permanent. Hopefully somebody else will have a better answer.

Maybe someone here can help me, because I'm stumped at this.

My laptop is recieving an wired internet connection, but none of my programs seem to be connecting to the signal. For example, Internet Explorer isn't loading pages (just blank), things aren't updating, and my "Weather App" says "Service not available." When I open Safari, it can't open the page and says "The error is: 'There was a problem communicating with the web proxy server (HTTP).' (CFURLErrorDomain: 306)"

The problem isn't in the router, because the desktop I'm using to post this is working fine. The problem isn't in the ethernet cable, because I tried using it to connect the desktop and it still worked fine.

Network and Sharing Center confirms that This Computer is connected to the Network connected to the Internet. When I "Diagnose and repair," the message comes up "Widnows did not find any problems with your internet connection."

I've tried disabling the connection, restarting, and enabling again, to no effect. I haven't tried restarting in Safe Mode yet, because I'm not sure how.

The problem is on my Dell laptop with Windows Vista. We get internet from Comcast, connected to my computer through a Scientific Atlanta modem and one each Cisco and Linksys routers. Again, though, my mystery is that the computer says it's recieving a connection, but it's somehow not being used by any prog... Read more

I have an asus netbook PC with XP home. Firefox does not go to the intended URL when I click on a link, and also the "back" button does not go to the previous URL.
I ran some of the assessment tools (otl, dds, mbam, gmer) in anticipation of receiving help. I did generate reports from all of these tools except gmer.
Running gmer causes problems.

* The first time it ran it appeared to complete but the PC became unresponsive and I was not able to save the log file. The only warning that I saw (that I remember seeing) was in a sequence of lines that all reported copies of the MBR. The last two entries in the list said something like "possible rootkit behavior" or something like that.
* The second time I ran GMER the screen saver kicked in, when I logged in again I got the "windows encountered and error ..... would you like to send a report".
* The third time I ran GMER I kept moving the mouse to prevent the screen saver from activating, and the computer screen changed to a background color with text, then rebooted. I didn't notice it quickly enough to read to screen.

Do you think some evil has crept into the PC?

Thanx,
Drew

Do you mean you are connected to your router via Wi-Fi? If so, some routers do not allow, or can be set to not allow, login from a wireless connection. Try an ethernet connection.

Hello!

First of all, thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide me!  Second of all, I feel it's only fair to warn everyone that I am awful with technology; I am very computer iliterate.  So please bear with me as I certainly get confused.  Finally, since this is my first post, I'm unsure if I'm posting in the right forum.  If not, I apologize!  Any mods should feel free to move my thread to the appropriate place.

So here's the problem.  Several months ago, my computer was infected with WinTools and Sweetpacks and all that good stuff.  I took it to some professionals and they were able to clean up my computer and get it running faster than it's ever run! ...for a hefty fee of course.  They had me install ESET onto my computer and, so far, it's worked great.  Now, within the last couple weeks, whenever I've used Chrome, an ESET warning will pop up telling me of a suspected threat something along the lines of win32/toolbar.conduit.z, I believe.  I always clicked the stop running button.  I even uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome.  It seemed to be working fine, but then today I noticed that there was a notification in my Chrome browser that Sweetpacks toolbar had been added to my Chrome toolbar.  When I saw that, I closed out Chrome and uninstalled it.  But I worry that there is something on my computer that is still associated with Sweetpacks, and also, I would like to be able to use Chrom... I can't continue to the internet while having connections. I can connect only through safe mode. There's this added unresponsiveness to my os (win7 64bit) as well, often leading to bsod. Need your help badly. Thanks. I have those logs ready if you just say what i need to paste. Again, thank you very much for your time.

Hello,

I noticed last night that I was unable to download the latest Firefox using IE7 as well as iTunes. When I attempted to download the browser would stall or indicate that there was an error and cancel the download.

As I was surfing around this moring, I noticed that I was unable to log into my hotmail account through IE7, though my MSN browser was working alright. Also, in IE7 Java Script calls were not functioning. Please help!

Here is my Hijackthis log:

When I am browsing the internet my browser starts to zoom in/out and doesn't allow me to click on anything. It basically freezes my browser (firefox). Sometimes by hitting zoom in or out on my keyboard I can get it to stop doing this, but not all the time. It seems recently to be happening more often. Any help on what it is or why its happening would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Ok, here's how this all started. I foolishly downloaded a "ms point generator" called Titan generator. I started the exe, and then nothing happened, so I deleted the file. I was worried a virus was on my computer, so I ran a scan with malwarebytes. 3 seconds into the scan, malwarebytes just shut down. And if I try to run it again, it says I don't have appropriate permissions or something like that, I don't remember because well, my desktop doesn't show. I thought something was up with the registry, so I did a registry scan with ccleaner. I fixed the selected issues with it, but after that, the desktop just dissapeared. I thought that maybe the explorer.exe file was missing, but when I looked at the location it normally is, it was still there, I did that by going to new task on task manager, then browse. The only way I can run programs now is through task manager, which is how I am on internet explorer right now. Whenever I'm in google, if I click a link after I search, I get redirected, so I have to open a cached version of the page. How do I get my desktop back? How do I remove this virus? Help is really appreciated, I sure as hell can't fix this on my own. Thanks.

A:Malwarebytes is not running, desktop doesn't show, browser redirects, please help.

I have a question about Clearing the Cache and Browsing History Upon Closing with Firefox. I have gotten into the Settings and have instructed Firefox to clear the cache and browsing history upon closing by going to Tools>Privacy>Clear History When Firefox Closes. From there I click on Advanced>Settings for Clearing History, where I check both Browsing and Download History and Cache.I have been careful to make sure no other setting contradicts that. Yet, if I run C Cleaner after closing my Firefox browser, it can take up to thirty five minutes for it to clear the Firefox Internet Cache, with most time taken in C:\Users\AppData\ while clearing over 9,000 files . Am I doing something wrong or is Firefox ignoring me? This has been the case with all versions of Firefox since at least Version 38.0. I'm less interested in opinions about Firefox and more interested in solving the problem. Thanks.

A:Firefox Browser Doesn't Clear Cache or History as Instructed

Do you have Firefox 38.0?
The current version is 48.0.2
I ask it, because Firefox doesn't have those buttons and options. Or, I can not hardly understand about what kind of buttons you're talking about.

But it is true that if you have a cache enabled, by default the cache files are saved in the  AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox folder. However, can disable cache at all. And as well, you can send cache files to any place. It is your choice.
And it is also true that the default location cleans Ccleaner perfectly, but if You change the location, then You must write also new rule for the CCleaner.
And it is also true that there can be a lot of files. By default it is and an infinite number of files and the size is 358,400 bytes, but you can change it if you want. You can set it beginning from 0 to what ever You want. These files are used only during one session  and then they are already obsolete.

So in IE, firefox, and chrome, all google links get redirected. when you hover over the search results, the URL that displays at the bottom of your browser window does not match the url of the search result. specifically, a prefix is added that looks something like this: hxxp://6ar1.google.com/(then some garbage)/http://(url of search result). When you click on the link, it opens up a new browser window that takes you to different ads, or sometimes back to google.com.
ipconfig /flushdns, netsh int ip reset, Combofix, Hitman Pro, AVG, MS Security Essentials, hijack this, malwarebytes are all of the tools I've tried using to find and extinguish this virus. None of these tools found anything suspicious on the system. I eventually formatted the hard drive and reinstalled XP, which did not work either. I also rebuilt the master boot record and rewrote the partition table using the XP installation disk and testdisk. This did not help either. I booted up to Parted Magic, opened up the partition editor (Gparted), and noticed there was a little bit of space after the main partition that was unallocated. I resized the main partition to make use of this unallocated space. after I restarted the system, no more browser redirects! I brought the pc back to the owner, and it worked fine for one entire day. but now its back! could it be in the router , or might someone be specifically targeting my client?

A:Another Google Redirect browser hijacker, clean XP install doesn't fix!

Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)A couple of weeks ago I installed critical MS updates and SP3 for my XP Home system. Around the same time I visited what seemed a rather unsafe website with lots of banners and popups and installed DownloadHelper add-on for Firefox (currently uninstalled). That was when I started getting different computer problems. Recent problems:First, my Windows Live Messenger stopped loading. I fixed it by pasting a safe hosts file from a friend. For quite a while now I've been seeing this error: Faulting application javaw.exe, version 6.0.200.2, faulting module java.dll, version 6.0.200.2, fault address 0x00004e46.Yesterday my Avira AntiVir Personal failed to start even manually, reporting "An unknown error occurred during init of the engine! Returned error code: 0x35". Today it just started on its own, while I was in the middle of something.Current problems:Svchost.exe: Overall, my computer seems slower than usual and I see eight svchost.exe processes in NTPV, with one of them eating up lots of CPU (sometimes up to 90) and memory of about 100,000K. I checked their names, all are correct and run from System32 folder, except that the problem one shows 96 threads.Windows Firewall off: Two days ago when I rebooted my computer, I got a message that Windows Firewall is off, so I tried to start it, to no avail, with the following error: Event ID 7023, Error 2, The system cannot find the file specified. Can't start it as of now.Po... Read more

Vault.dll belongs to Comodo. simply boot into safe mode and re-install Comodo.

I must be bad luck. My PC, which has gone through several hardware changes over the last year seems to kill networks. I have to reset my router daily. I've had the same issue with 3 diff routers, 3 diff network cards, and using both Windows 7 and Windows 8. Same issue wireless or wired. I do a lot of file sharing and video streaming on my local network and a fair amount of downloading. I've tried configuring static IP and DNS settings on the pc and in the router itself with no luck. I'm at a loss for what I can do to try resolving this issue...

I have a Toshiba laptop - Satellite L755 - S5107. It came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit pre-installed.

It doesn't have XP mode, and anyway I want to run XP directly. As soon as I try to run the setup of XP (SP3), 7 gives a message that there is already a newer version of Windows installed, and it stops the setup from proceeding.

All my internet searches have given results for SATA drivers, but my desktop computer also has a SATA HDD, and XP installs easily on that one.

So is there any way to install XP on a separate partition? I already know how to set up dual boot with EasyBCD.

A:7 kills setup of XP

You must boot the XP CD.

If it fails to see the partitions to select the one where you want XP installed, then it needs the SATA drivers added. SATA Drivers - Load in Windows XP Setup on Dual Boot
SATA Drivers - Slipstream into Windows XP CD
