Open pinned bookmarks with a non-IE10 browser

Q: Open pinned bookmarks with a non-IE10 browser

After I installed Windows 8, I used the metro IE10 to pin my most used websites tot the metro startmenu. I like the look of it with te icons.
I didn't like ie10 so I installed the Chrome metro app as default browser.

Now all the website icons are replaced by the IE10-logo and they all open in the desktop IE10.

I would like to open these bookmarks with Chrome metro app.

Is it possible to pin favorite websites tot the startmenu with Chrome and more importantly, open these with Chrome?

Hello all, I've been using W8 on my HP TM2 for a little while and am having some difficulties getting the most out of it. I tend to visit a lot of forums, and the most efficient way to read the posts is to bookmark the "new posts" button
which typically starts with a url like so

but then changes to a url like so

When I pin the site it will pin the second url, which eventually expires. In any other browser you would simply edit the bookmark, or right click and add the link as a bookmark, but I can't seem to find any option for this in IE10 Metro. Is there any workaround or way to edit the pinned sites so that I can specify the URL I want? Thanks!

I am using Firefox and IE. Is there a way to open 'Bookmarks' or 'Favorites' pages, without first opening the browser.

Thank you,

A:Is it possible to open 'bookmarks' without opening the browser?

I suppose so
Your favorites are in a folder inside your user folder so just make a shortcut to it and open it,
Click start and click on your user name listed near the top/ right
There you'll see the favorites folder Open it and right click the folder you want to access and send to Desktop create shortcut :/
Never tried it though,

I'm using Firefox 3.0.3, and whenever I add something to my bookmarks toolbar, it gets deleted when I open up firefox again! It's really annoying cause I recently bookmarked like, 10 sites (Yeah, they got deleted).

Right now I have "Google, Yahoo, and Keepvid" on there, but anything new gets deleted. My guess is there's a program I own that's doing it. But I don't know.

Thanks ahead!

I have problem with Muliple Broswer tabs (self) opening & pointing to "IE10 start here" pages and when using Outlook it goes to "start here" pages when trying to type in Outlook emails. It is quite something to see over a hundred cascading windows trying to get you started with Welcome to Microsoft Internet Explorer 10... and another one is the

Same problem whether typing any characters in the search engine boxes on IE10 or google chrome. New tabs open "by themselves" and attempt/redirect to go to start MSN/Bing pages. They dont all load fully and new tabs open. Over 180 tabs "self-opened" last time in google chrome. I tried google chrome after having this happen in IE10 - so it seems to be a windows 8 issue. Maybe other programs are affected but ive only tried Outlook 2010 and Web Browsers...thats enough for now!

This is a new HP Desktop PC with factory fresh windows 8 Home premium and MSOffice Pro Plus 2010 install. Have changed all browsers to home page of google but IE10 or chrome if i make it the defalut browser and still self opens and tries to go to MS start pages.

I closed IE10 and/or chrome with task manager and created a dump file and also set windows error self reporting to auto (because it was set to manual by default) and it should be running self error reporting windows app like in previous Windoes versions but there is nio indication it is sending anything to MS. Yep...sure enough there was no other users out there with similar problem so must be something unique to equipment.

PC was set up with HP wired Keyboard and issues after testing installation. New Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse was issued and after a while (few days) problem began to appear.

F1 key was sticking. Beat it up a bit and problem gone. Hold down the F1 key and same problems...multiple browser windows opening, help windows opening etc depending on application you are in. haha...stupid. Since it does show an icon on your taskbar for them, does is show a taskbar thumbnail preview of their opened window when you hover the pointer on the icon on the taskbar?

If they do, then they may just be offscreen, and the tutorial below can show you how to drag them back onscreen.

Recently I am unable to open the Store app. After a small Windows 10 update, I have been unable to access the store. When I open the start menu and click the icon, it is unresponsive. Also when I go through my apps, it wont open when clicked there. I even had it pinned to my toolbar and the icon disappeared but left space and when I clicked there, I got an error message. Also, as I was typing this, my toolbar began being difficult. Certain things like the start icon, the calculator icon, or the internet explorer icon wont open when clicked. But the google chrome and the file explorer icons work well. I am not sure if there is a way for me to update the Store app or get it to launch through a browser or do I have to wait till another Windows 10 update to fix my problem.

Thank you for any advice or help in advance.

A:Pinned apps in taskbar - Keep to the left of open windows?

Hello Synomenon,

By default, any opened app or window will be to the right of all pinned apps on the taskbar unless it is a pinned app, then it will show opened wherever the pinned app is already at on the taskbar.

If you like, you are also able to drag the pinned apps in any arrangement on the taskbar though.

Hope this helps some,

I have been waiting for a month for a folder that I want (D:\Documents\Visual Studio 2012\Projects) to appear in the Frequent list but my wait has so far been futile.

Hi All,
Recently took the plunge and downloaded Windows 10. I'm still in the process of tweaking it to my liking and there are a few things that are driving me nuts and I don't know how (or if) I can fix them.

The main problem that is irritating me right now relates to the taskbar and pinned icons. I've pinned several commonly used icons which rest nicely, on the bottom left. However, when I click on an icon, I notice it will open up right next to the icon itself. I really dislike this, as it essentially boots all the other objects to the right of that icon to the right which makes it harder to find other objects in that taskbar list that I might want to click on to open. The problem gets worse when I click on several pinned items too.

Is there a way to force open programs to always open to the right of the last icon? It was obviously normal/possible to do this in XP/Win 7...

Any advice or assistance would be most appreciated!

Mr. Gisa

P.S - Bonus questions/issues that are starting to bother me as well...
I) is there a way to give these opened windows a dark black border, like in XP? Not a fan of the transparent borders but can't find the option to enable? ? them..
II) I'm reaching here, but is there also a way to turn off the fade in/out when clicking on a video link or looking at pictures?

Does anyone know if it's possible to "tell" a pinned site on the Windows 8.1 Start Screen to open in a new IE web browser window? In this way, it would work much more similarly to how site's perform when they're pinned to the taskbar in Desktop
mode. It would also perform much more like any other app (that can be resized in Modern App mode, etc.) than just a glorified website bookmark.

P.S. I am not an IT pro (though I'm not opposed to dabbling with certain system files), but I was asked to post my question on this forum by one of MS's Support Engineers.

It should be listed in Installed Updates where you would right click on it then select Uninstall.

This should revert you back to IE9 or IE8, but if you have a restore point prior to upgrading - then you can use that method which will also remove any programs or other Windows updates which have been installed since, so use the Scan for affected programs before effecting the restore.

Windows Updates may auto prompt for their reinstall or you can use Check for Updates in Windows Updates and vet that you don't get any for IE10.

This is pretty self-explanatory.Run in Admin does not kick in when launching a file via a Taskbar's pinned app icon, even when the pinned app has been set to 'Run in Admin' mode (under Properties -> Advanced). The same thing happens in the Start Menu -- the app can be set (Properties -> Advanced) to Run in Admin mode, and the file does not launch this way.Why is this a problem?  Because if one is supposed to use accounts like MS asks, then running as a standard user after having a file created in an admin account, that user cannot alter the doc in any way -- no saves work.  At least this is true for files not on the C partition.  The only way W7 permits saves is to run an app in Admin mode.(I've run into this countless times in the span of a few days with Notepad & PSPad.)If the W7 team wants to insist that docs won't automatically run in Admin mode under these conditions (which they should!!!!!!), then at least give users a right-click context menu option to Run as Admin from the recent/pinned items list.  Currently there is no such context menu option.Thereby, all recent items / pinned items are rendered a useless feature.....Still loving this OS.a.k.a.

A:Taskbar & Start Menu Bug: App Shortcuts set to Run as Admin don't open pinned/recent files in RaA

You want a non-admin user to run a restricted operation. You can easily set the CMD icon to it's Properties to always 'run as administrator'. You can open any app 'as admin' with it. The non-admin user, however could not approve the dialog to open CMD and run an app.Rating posts helps other users

Hi there
I've tried to KILL this wretched browser questionnaire - I'm using W8 Enterprise RTM ( X-64) from TechNet -- US version.

If I click Continue --IE just offers all sorts of B/S about IE9 (nothing about IE10) and just Hangs if I try and go further.

If I delete the whole wretched piece of B/S I just get prompted again the next time I connect to the Internet.

What's up here -- I got my copy of W8 from a LEGAL subscription -- US, my registration is Iceland -- not yet (and maybe never) a part of the EU -- at least not until after a forthcoming referendum, but just because I logon on via a Hotel's wifi system in Brussels I get prompted for this B/S browser stuff.

OK if it works but at least it should offer current versions like IE10.

The whole thing is total nonsense anyway --but at least it SHOULD WORK.

My browser is currently IE10 -- I don't need all this B/S to install IE9.

hi there,

I am thinking to upgrade to IE10 since i just understood that some BASIC functionalities of gmail are gone (cannot attach multiple files, cannot see progress during attachment) after they introduced this lovely "new compose", so either i switch email or i need to upgrade from IE9.

Personally i like IE9, is fast and works OK, occasionally i get the "this tab has stopped working" with the RED x but is no big deal, happens rarely.

After all, IE10 has been around for a while now and i bet that there's been several patches for it so i'd like how it's working right now, and if there are any major issues with it.

Many Thanks

I also have Google toolbar installed and use gmail so I can say I'm not having any issues with either,
There is a few tweaks which I've learned to use for a better experience which also apply to ie9 as well,
Adobe shockwave player is probably the biggest role player in how well ie9 or 10 operates/ I usually run with it Disabled and only enable if a I want to watch a video,
I've found little to no need for Java from Oracle so Uninstalling it might help a bit and making sure the Java deployment kit is disabled/ haven't found a way to completely remove Java deployment as of yet ?
I've also found Alt+TB or Menubar/ Tools/ Compatibility view settings/ Uncheck Download comp-view lists from Microsoft automatically and good thing to do/ except for Intranet leave Checked and of course Uncheck view all sites in comp-view. will help either version of ie.

I am able to use IE10 to access certain pages (Bleeping Computer appears fine!) but on those pages where it does hang I just get a notice that reads, 'recover web page' or words to that effect.
Any advice?

Recently i lost all my bookmarks when my PC crashed, i am using firefox and went to the bookmark back ups folder to save them again, however it won't let me save ANY page as a bookmark???

A:Can't add bookmarks to my browser

That is probably caused by a corrupt localstore.rdf file. First try this:
Completely close Firefox and then restart Firefox in safe mode.
Start> Mozilla Firefox> Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode).
A window called Firefox Safe Mode with some troubleshooting options will appear. Select the option Reset toolbars and controls (should be second one down) and choose Make Changes and Restart. If that doesn't solve the problem, then you need to delete the localstore.rdf file.
Close Firefox and Start> Run> type: %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles open the default folder and delete the file.
( could be xxx.default for some. xxx are numbers and letters)
The above location if for windows xp.
Do not delete the localstore.rdf file in the Firefox program installation folder by mistake, the one to delete is in the Application Data folder that is hidden.

I have an FTP internally that is used to host PDF & HTML files. Previously all users could log onto this FTP site and double click on any file content to have it open within the default browser. We use FTP in explorer view so each user
can set their terminals to save their passwords, hence they log straight into their root folder on the FTP - if we use the FTP list view in the browser this doesnt happen, meaning user 9999 has a long way to scroll to find their documents!

This has always worked absolutely fine until IE10 has been installed, now any user with IE10 cant open files straight from the FTP via the Explorer view. The file doesnt download, the destination file ends up at 0KB so just doesnt open in the
browser. Roll back to IE9 fixes the problem. Using Chrome as the default browser fixes the problem. Using the FTP list view also works fine (however we cant use this since it wont default to users root folder that they have access to)

Ive attempted everything i can think of without luck, its looking like we're going to have to block IE10 or switch to Chrome. Basically opening files from any FTP site (have tested others) in explorer view with IE10 installed just isnt working.
You can however copy the document to the local machine then open ok..

Any ideas, what am i missing here!?

So yesterday automatic Windows update installed IE10, today I noticed that links in certain applications open in IE10 instead of my configured default browser, which every link from this or any other application used to open in before that update and the reboot that followed the update.
I checked the Default Programs section in the system control panel, expecting maybe Microsoft wanted to get themselves in any more trouble with the EU and changing the default to IE. This was not the case however, all the associations were still pointing to the configured default browser, I noticed however I could not uncheck the defaults already set.
So despite the obvious configuration being correct, links would still open in IE10 even after yet another reboot.
I went ahead and checked the registry associations, and found that http(s) protocol as well as htm(l) filetypes were associated with Internet Explorer with various EditFlags set (presumably to prevent changing them through the user interface, or to ignore the user interface settings).

Seriously Microsoft? Don't you have enough trouble yet?

Good afternoon. Yesterday, I downloaded an update for my husband's HP printer onto his computer. At the same time, it downloaded BING, which we have never used. After that, we noticed his firewall was off, and we were unable to get it turned back on. Also, we cannot download any security. And his home page has changed. We are unable to change it back. We have Microsoft security essentials which runs regularly. In doing some research, it appears his browser has been hijacked.

Can someone please help me get his computer UN-hijacked?

A:IE10 browser hijacked. Unable to load firewall or download programs.

Here are some things you might want to try:
1. Run a full scan on Security Essentials? If so, did you find any viruses?
2. Go to Start>Run>msconfig and go to the startup tab and make sure that only the items that are important (eg. Windows 7, Intel Software, Microsoft Security Essentials) items are selected; you may also be able to find the item if it has made a shortcut here.
3. Try going into safe mode and see if anything changes.
4. What you may also want to do is to get Malwarebytes and perform a scan: Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware download

Good evening folks. Appreciate you looking. I am having a problem with my copy of Firefox 3.0.5, concerning the bookmarks. Recently, I was assisting my granddaughter with making application to a University in Georgia. I bookmarked a web page for Kennesaw State University in Atlanta, but the bookmark does not work. That is not the primary problem though, since we were able to get on their site and got her enrolled. The problem is that I cannot delete the bookmark now. I highlight it, right click it and select delete, like I do all IE7 and Firefox Bookmarks I want to delete. However, nothing happens when I select delete. The bookmark text is still visible, although the bookmark is not functional. It does not bring up the website. Anyone have any idea what to do to get rid of it? Thanks

A:Moving bookmarks over to new browser

Depends on what you were using before. For strange reasons, the bookmarks are in hidden locations with most browsers. The easiest thing is to have Opera do it. So that is where I would direct my first request.

Otherwise, you may have to use a free download you can find with a Gurgle search to move them over.

After signing off my Facebook and MSN email accounts (desktop) at night, the next morning when I boot up, they are open. Also, when on MSN home page, Live Mail, or web pages with links, my Optical Wireless Pilot Mouse left click does not function on most links I click on - I have to right click and then click on OPEN.
I use Norton 360, and have also run Malwarebytes, Spybot Search & Destroy,  SUPERAntiSpyware trying to find my problem.
I found Bleeping Computer when using Norton Web Support.  I hope there is someone out there that can advise me on what to do next.

A:Email & Facebook are already open when first starting WIN7/IE10 desktop

No reason for them to be open unless someone/something has them running at boot, IMO.
I'd use a startup manager such as Startup Control Panel - and see what's listed.  Any items listed can be unchecked to prevent them running at boot, this does not prevent the program from running on demand.

The title says it all. When I open a URL shortcut from the desktop, IE opens it to a blank page. All links opened from within IE and other programs, however, open fine.

I have spent two days searching for a solution everywhere I can locate and tried all of the solutions I found (short of a reinstall of WIN7) and nothing has worked. I have uninstalled IE 10 back to IE8 and reinstalled it twice, but each reinstall of IE8, 9, and 10 have not gotten rid of the problem. I must stay with WIN7 and IE10 for now for various reasons so I need to find a solution.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

You know the deal. You've collected tons of bookmarks over the years. Created a beautifully curated knowledge bank, and then one day you look up a bookmark, and the page it refers to is not there any more (and instead you see an ad by GoDaddy asking if you'd like to buy the domain).

For instance, I have a bookmark to an explanation of C pointers that's hosted on someone's home server. It's absolutely the best explanation of C pointers out there. And yes, I've downloaded the relevant pages as HTML files. But downloading HTML files for each and every one of my thousands of bookmarks will be really tedious, and very difficult to sift through later on.

It would be really nice if I could find a mechanism whereby: when I bookmark a page, a cache of the page is backed-up somewhere. So that, in future if I try to access that page, and the page is gone, I can use the same bookmark (and perhaps a combination of a keyboard shortcut) to refer to the cached backed-up version.

In fact, given the large number of super-smart programmers out there who I'm sure have faced the same issue, I'm 100% sure there is such a mechanism out there.

What would you recommend?

(I've found a single option called Diigo, but it's a premium feature and needs to be paid for. I would love to hear feedback if anyone's used it.)

(And yes, Internet Archive works in a pinch, but someone can ask IA to remove its cache of that page.)

A:How can I cache the full pages for all my browser bookmarks?

I did it a while ago with HTTrack. You need to import a list of links, one line per link, and if you just want the bookmarked ones, turn off site crawling.

Hi everybody

I picked up some nasty malware. AVG was updating and suddenly everything just fell apart.

I can't run any installation programs regardless of the extension or name. I've tried to install Rkill and MalwareBytes with absolutely no luck. It defaults to needing to be unblocked in the properties and no matter what compatibility mode I use it will not run. I get a 1084 error when I try to open the security center. In the taskbar I have an Action Center alert that says 1 Important Message and 3 Total Messages. The Action Center will not open at all. I do not have access to a USB key as I am not home, but I will be Tuesday evening. Any help would be infinitely appreciated.

Other notes I forgot: I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, and I am constantly getting errors that Windows can't load and needs to be repaired. It runs and restarts, sometimes being repaired and other times not.

Thanks a lot

A:Action center won't open, Internel Explorer only browser that will open, no MalwareBytes and RKill will not open

An update.

I've tried running MalwareBytes and RKill from a flash drive which is also not working. Windows also ends up unable to load, the startup repair runs and things work fine. Not long after Windows tries to update and then it becomes unable to load again and the startup repair runs again.

I tried running a registry fix for the .exe problem and I get an error stating that the registry is being used even when no programs are running and I am in safe mode.

Hope this information helps

Hi, i just found this forum due to a wierd problem i am having...

my PC WAS set to auto d/l and instal updates, it did this last night and rebooted.
This morning when i came down and logged in i found that after the update all my desktop game short cuts where gone (there where 10) as well as the full contents of my quick launch bar.
i ran Firefox to go online and it ran as if it was it's first time since instal (been running firefox for months), all my bookmarks where gone. went to look for i.e. and the shortcut was nowhere to be found, i eventualy ran it by going into it's program file, i.e. was also missing all of the bookmarks that should have been in there.
while trying to find the missing files i noticed that in my user folder there where 2 of all the folders. i.e. 2x Documents, 2x Favorites, 2x My music, video's & pictures etc etc.. the folders where duplicated but the contents where not (didnt think it possible to have 2 folders with the exact same name in the same location but there they where!)

I did a system restore to yesterday afternoon which was several hours before i noticed the "New updates are available" icon and it was no different. i eventualy went back a few days with system restore and got all my stuff back.

While doing this i turned off my modem so these troublesome updates couldn't instal automaticly, when the system restore had finished i turned off the auto updates and set it to notify me rather than d/l & instal them but as i... Read more

I have been using my Verizon Yahoo Browser for my internet use since my Internet Explorer browser has been giving me problems, namely it keeps freezing up after visiting anywhere between 3-5 web pages and I can't open multiple windows. It stops responding and I have to close out of it. I have scanned repeatedly for problems and haven't found any with it. I finally gave up and started using the Verizon Yahoo Browser and all was fine until yesterday. I couldn't open either internet browsers for about half a day, thought it was a problem with my internet connection, gave up and went to bed.

Today I can open both again but it takes a good couple minutes after clicking on them before they actually load. Once it loads, it runs ok although it has stopped responding a couple times and I have noticed I can not add any bookmarks in my Verizon Yahoo browser anymore. I have run numerous scans, including the Malwarebytes one, SuperAnti-Spyware, and my normal McAfee but it hasn't found anything. I did notice that about the time that this started, McAfee was trying to update itself and seemed to be frozen. I had to reboot computer. Could that have something to do with it? I'm thinking about reinstalling McAfee to see if it's doing something. Other than that, I would really appreciate any suggestions because this is getting frustrating.

Oh, and I am running Windows XP Media Center Edition.

A:Internet Browsers Take Forever To Open/can't Add Bookmarks

It is possible that McAfee could be the reason why you are experiencing this issue. You could uninstall, then reinstall McAfee to see if that solves the problem. If you decide to take this approach, after uninstalling from Add Remove, use the McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool before reinstalling. The tool will (supposedly) remove any traces left behind. If a reinstall doesn't solve the problem, it could be a case of McAfee just not playing nice with your system. Of course, there are other reasons why your browsers are slow to open but since you mentioned McAfee I am addressing that question.

I'm wondering if there is a way to batch delete all the user-pinned items that show up when I right-click, say, the OOffice Writer user-pinned icon on the task bar, revealing all my user-pinned documents (as well all the recently opened non-pinned docs)?

I know I can delete them individually, one-by-one, but I'm wondering where they're listed, say, in the registry or in appdata, or something, that would allow me to delete them all at once.

I noticed something weird about Google Chrome.

I use CCCleaner and clean my history all the time.

I noticed with Chrome that even if I'm browsing the Internet, and I've run CC, it treats ALL my bookmarks as 'purple' links. It treats them all like I've 'seen' them before.

This feature has become amazing for me. I love it. Now here's the weird part. It sometimes does it and sometimes doesn't. I'm not crazy.

Also, the bad thing is there's sooo many bookmarks that Chrome also sadly takes a little while to load, which kinda sucks.

Anyway sometimes it only treats some bookmarks as seen and some not. I thought I just had too many so I deleted some. not the case.

I checked the official 'history' in Chrome and it can be completely empty while still showing some links as seen.

Anyone have any insight on this?

I want it to keep (consistently) treating all my bookmarks as seen.

I notice that Chrome icon pinned to taskbar has inconsistent behavior between my Windows 10 Pro installs. (My taskbar is configured for "Taskbar buttons: Never combine", but it makes no difference)

1. On one machine clicking on pinned Chrome icon expands that pinned icon "in place", i.e. the pinned icon expands and becomes a wide taskbar entry for Chrome window. This is the normal behavior for Windows 10.

2. On another machine clicking on pinned Chrome icon creates a new taskbar entry for the new Chrome window. The new expanded entry appears in the taskbar to the right of the pinned icons, while the original pinned Chrome icon remains unchanged. This behavior is similar to that of ordinary Windows 7 Quick Launch bar.

So far only Chrome behaved in this inconsistent fashion. Other pinned icons consistently behave in accordance with the first scenario.

So, would could possibly be the reason for a pinned Chrome icon to follow the latter behavior?

Sorry if this has already been asked - I'm trying to catch up with developments and it seems easier asking rather than blundering my way between Metro and Normal mode.

For regular browsing I'm using IE10 from the normal Windows desktop. I find that if a program opens IE10, it opens the metro style IE10 (is that the right terminology?). For example, if I use Control Panel > Appearance and Personalisation to go get some online themes, I get this metro-style IE10 opening.

Is there way to turn off the Metro style IE10, and just use the classic one?

after a reboot, I will get IE8., then I am able to only install ie10. (I've already tried installing ie9/ie11 with the antivirus uninstalled with no effect)

Import/export bookmarks, cant get my HTML saved bookmarks back into Chrome!!!!!

I used to use Internet explorer, then Firefox, and now Chrome as my default browser.

I had to do a updated computer rebuild, and before doing so, i saved my bookmarks as a HTML file, on an external hard drive. After I set up the new computer, and dragged this HTML file of my (over 1200 bookmarks) onto my new desktop.

I went to BOOKMARKS,BOOKMARK MANAGER, THEN "IMPORT FROM ANOTHER BROWSER",abut all the only choices are for, ANOTHER BROWSER, NOT from any file on the computer.

I first tried to import this file into internet Explorer, but that interface seems to also have changed, and it seems whenever I click on the "IE' logo on the task bar, something like YAHOO, or MSN, pops up instead......what happened to the original internet explorer and all of its tools? (YES, I can see the tools or setting, or Internet options on the right of each of these sites, but HOW CAN I GET MY FAV BOOKMARKS HTML FILE BACK INTO CHROME AGAIN???????????? Any Help?

Version 33.0.1750.154 m

A:CHROME import/export bookmarks, cant get my HTML saved bookmarks back

Hi I'm kind of confused,
Chrome is much like but not exactly the same as Google toolbar,
Simply signing in would make Google or Chrome bookmarks available,
That is what Google does,
It stores everything on it's servers,
So the basic question is are you signed into Chrome ?

I'm running Firefox 29.0.1

Remember before? When you clicked Bookmarks on the menu bar, a list of all your bookmarks would appear?

It doesn't do that now.

Now, when you click Bookmarks, it presents you with options to go to various places including the folder containing your bookmarks, in my case, Imported From Firefox, cos I restored a backup from an earlier installation.

I'm pretty sure everyone would find this irritating, as I do.

I've done some Googling but so far only found half baked ideas about installing add ons to allow you to make firefox "look like it used to".

Why couldn't they just leave it alone?

Anyway, anyone found a quick fix or is it already (as usual) staring me right in the face?

A:[SOLVED] Bookmarks list doesn't appear when you click bookmarks anymore.

I'm running the same version and all my bookmarks are still under, Bookmarks.
I'm not sure why yours has changed.

I have been using IE10 for about 6 months.

A few days ago, immediately after the regular monthly windows update from Microsoft, one IE10 feature has been consistently misbehaving.

Regardless of the method I use, when I try to open a link in a new tab, the tab is created with a completely blank page. The tab itself is also blank. The URL displayed in the address field is that of the calling page.

I raised this issue here in Microsoft Answers and have had assistance from ThrashZone. ThrashZone suggested I post the results of an AdwCleaner scan for feedback from this forum, hinting that the computer may have a virus. I use up-to-date Kaspersky IS 2012 AV which appears to be 'on the ball' and both my wife and I have pretty tame browsing habits, so I do not suspect a virus at this point. However, I'll keep an open mind.

Any analysis or thoughts from forum members?

Please go ahead and run the Delete part of ADWare cleaner and then post the resulting txt file. You have InstallIQ which is an downloader for some software downloads.

Hello Everyone,

I unfortunately let my security software expire and immediately fell prey to malware. I downloaded malwarebytes and ran a scan. The program found trojans, etc and supposedly removed them. The problem with my redirects and unseen commercials still exists. Help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Here is the SysInfo, to be followed by hijackthis log, DDS text, Attach text, and Gmer.

Sometimes I will have 4-5 browsers open at once. I will then close all except one of them.

When I go into task manager, Processes, there will still be 4-6 "iexplorer.exe" processes open.

I don't want this. Why do they remain open after closing the browsers?

Is there a fix for this?

A:IE8: Multiple internet explorer processes open with one browser open

Do they stay there until you restart the computer or do they go away after you close all of the browsers? Also when you open more browsers again does more processes come up as well as the other already there?

Hey everyone. Why is Firefox 3.6.10 removing the bookmarks from my bookmarks toolbar whenever I add the bookmark to a folder under the bookmarks menu? Note: I am not moving them, I am going to the website and bookmarking them all over again so as to put them in a folder. However, when I do this, the bookmark gets removed from the toolbar and put in the folder. I really don't like this. I want to be able to have my bookmarks in two different places: both on the toolbar and in the folder.

A:Why does Firefox remove the bookmarks from my bookmarks toolbar?

Probably a Firefox feature to help you avoid duplicates.

After you have it once just copy it to where you want it. I just tested this with 3.5.13 copying from Bookmarks toolbar to another folder.

I have my default browser set to Mozilla Firefox. I have a few links to streaming radio on my desktop that only work with Internet Explorer, so if I want to just click the shortcut to the station, I have to set my default browser to IE. Is there a way I can make the links open in IE, but leave my default browser set as Firefox?

A:Open link with browser other than default browser?

A workaround would be to open IE, get your music going, then minimize IE and open FF or if it's already open, just go back to it.

You can download Coral IE Tab, which is an add-on for Firefox. I use it, and it works great.

A very simple question - but just to confirm this - I'm using Windows 10,, and Internet Explorer as primary default browser, do not wish to remove. Could I open up a different browser and email account besides IE or Chrome (ex: mozilla, opera, avant, or whatever) NOT using google/gmail, and NOT changing my primary browser?

A:keeping IE as default browser, and open another browser

you can have as many browsers on the PC and just have 1 as default
you can have as many emails as you like, just not sure I understand the question re- email being default ?

Had a number of abrupt computer shutdowns due to power outage and now Firefox won't open no matter what I do. I'm trying to recover all my bookmarks before I reinstall Firefox. So, after identifying which file it is (I think) I'm trying to get a look inside so I can record everything.

Thanks! I'm all ears!

A:How do I open a Firefox bookmarks file (.json) without using Firefox?

Your bookmarks and other preferences are stored in a separate and independent location/file on your disk, so you should be able to delete and reinstall Ff without needing to do a special save for them. See if the information linked to below does not, however, answer your question:

Probably should ask this over in the Mozilla forums, hell, there is probably an answer already there, but you guys are much faster, and smarter.

In the new Firefox 4, on the bookmarks toolbar, there is an additional folder of the bookmarks

The bookmarks folder under the firefox tab at the top right is more than enough for me, the one on the toolbar just takes up space for other bookmarks! Can this folder be removed?

Thanks all!

A:Bookmarks folder in FF4 Bookmarks toolbar

Go to the Firefox toolbar > View > Toolbars > Customize. Now just drag it and drop it into customize toolbar window.

When browsing a website that I have pinned to my taskbar (Facebook for example) I've noticed that the pages take longer than usual to load. When it does load, the page becomes very choppy when I'm scrolling up/down and is generally slow to respond.
It's the same for any website I have pinned to my taskbar.

The strange thing is, If I open up IE9 (non-pinned) and browse using the address bar everything is smooth and fast. Any ideas of why this is happening?

I've cleared my temp internet files and reset IE to default settings with no luck. I've also tried un-pining then re-pinning website but it's still the same.
Is there a way I can clear the cache for individual pinned sites?

A:Pinned sites are slower than non-pinned sites.

OK, After some more time with this problem I've worked a few things out,

Internet explorer (64bit) is working but it's the 32bit that's giving me trouble.
I've tried the following,
Winsock reset
Run with no add-ons
Reinstalled ie9
Reset ie9 settings
Uninstalled Flash/Java
Turned off security/firewall
Removed as much third party software as I can
Also, ie9 (x32) runs fine when I run as admin.

Any help?

Client has SharePoint 2010 project server.
When the user clicks on a Excel file, the file open in the browser and when the user click on "open in Excel" we receive the below message
"To open this workbook, your computer must have a version of Microsoft Excel installed and your Web browser must support opening files directly from Excel in the browser."
Below is the browser version

However when the same is tried/accessed through a browser deployed on a dev machine, it works normally. Below is the version of the IE on the DEV server

What is causing this to happen?
Is there any tool to check the difference between the IE settings on my Desktop and the dev box.

Hello everyone, ive been trying to get a new internet browser but whatever I install will not start up. I tried Firefox and Chrome but when I try to run the loading sign pops up for a few seconds and then nothing happens. The only one that actually opens is Internet Explorer and I hate having to use IE. There was some malware on my computer that I removed some time ago so maybe that has something to do with it but I do not remember what kind of malware it was. I also do not have a windows boot CD. Thank you for anyones help and let me know if you need more info from me. Thank you!
