Default Yahoo Email Win 8 IE10

Q: Default Yahoo Email Win 8 IE10

I have seen numerous search results from Google, but none of them work

I just sent my computer in to be worked on a month ago. I had this working before then

It was factory reset so this is a computer/browser issue, nothing with the restore

I had Yahoo Email set as default. For each of my previous computers, I did too.

Even when I got this in March

I cannot find the link telling me how to do it: I remember seeing it could be done with a particular version of Yahoo toolbar And I saw one that would install the mail plugin with Yahoo Messenger

Neither has been there when I installed several vesions

Any help would be most appreciated

A: Default Yahoo Email Win 8 IE10

Hi Eric,

Can you tell us a bit more about how you'd like to use Yahoo?
Do you use it via web mail (in your web browser)?
Or do you want to use the built-in Mail app that appears on the Windows 8 Start Screen?
Or do you have other email software that you want to use?

Hello Windows 7 Forums, great place you have here! I've found pretty much anything I need in these well detailed forums, except one last detail, and I can't find the solution anywhere.

I am migrating from Outlook to just using Yahoo for my work accounts (it's a cloud philosophy thing). I found a registry edit that works excellent for changing Windows 7 default email from Outlook to Gmail thru Chrome (or any browser), but I can't get it to work perfectly for Yahoo. When I click on a "mailto:" link in a Word document or "mailto:" hyperlink in a browser, Yahoo mail will open to a new message, but will not fill in the "To" address - it is blank. It does work in Gmail. I believe it's just a syntax issue, but I don't know what the exact hyperlink Yahoo needs to complete this in full. Below is how I made this work (and I don't take credit for this, the Gmail solution is posted in some obscure places around the internet).

1. Standard warning about changing settings in Registry - Backup/ Restore Point/ Backup....
2. Regedit
3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\mailto\shell\open\command\
4. Right-Click on Name field - should say "Default" and click "Modify"
5. Copy and Paste "Value Data" in a txt file as a Backup if something goes wrong
6. Paste EXACTLY what is below INCLUDING quotes. Change "username" to your own

"C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" https://mail... Read more

A:Default email to Yahoo almost done but....

Try downloading and installing Yahoo messenger, and Yahoo toolbar. Then you should be able to set it as default in Internet Options for default programs.

A cleaner way may be to use Firefox.

A:how can I make yahoo email my default on Vista?

If you are talking about the web browser interface to Yahoo mail, I don't think that there is any way to do that in Windows. If you have a premium Yahoo account that permits POP3/SMTP access, you could set up your Yahoo account an e-mail client program like MS-Outlook Express or Mozilla Thunderbird. Then select that program as your default mail application.

Make sure you have set FF as your DEFAULT browser.
Otherwise, check the parameters/setup of that Yahoo utility. It may not be FF-compatible and go to IE, regardless.
As an alternative, start FF when your PC boots, and leave it open for the duration, then use the FF-extension.

I have followed the instructions to change yahoo to my default email. This is from How to Make Yahoo! Mail Your Default Windows Email Program - About Email and How do I make yahoo my default email in windows xp? - Yahoo! Answers I am running Windows XP SP3.

Problem is when I go into internet options through the control panel, then click the programs tab, under email drop down menu its supposed to state yahoo mail as a client. Problem is it does not. I install yahoo software but I still am not able to find it even though it says I should.

I have had this same problem in the past. I did yesterday have my computer reformatted so yahoo was no longer my defualt client. Anyone know the solution and why this is happening and how they can help me fix this please?

A:making yahoo mail your default email client in xp

You have to uninstall all of Yahoo software you may have on your computer now and restart. Then you have to install Yahoo Messenger. You have to install all of Yahoo's other software (toolbar, Default web search, Home page) and during the setup it will ask if you want to make Yahoo your Default Email provider. If you check this then it will appear under Internet Options/Programs/Email. You then can go to Add Remove Programs and uninstall Yahoo Toolbar, Search and change your default home page to whatever, if you don't want Yahoo.

The problem: IE10 seems to now default all web sites to "Internet Explorer 10 Compatibility View" browser mode.

This will in turn change the Documents mode to something other than "Standards" unless each web page has explicitly defined : <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible">, and often screw up how things are rendered.  The user is able to
change it manually via the f12 menu, but it reverts back the next time IE is opened.

Also: the broken paper icon in the address bar is no longer displayed for any page, and "tools > compatibility view" is greyed out.

It's this same way for any PC at my business, and regardless of what's in the compatibility view list.  And yes "display all websites in compatibility view" is not checked.

Up until some point in the last year, it didn't work this way.  Before: it would default to "Internet Explorer" unless the web site was explicitly included in the compatibility view list.

Can anyone still on IE10 recreate this?  Was there a windows update at some point in the recent past that has affected this behavior?  Or does this have to be something in my environment?

So yesterday automatic Windows update installed IE10, today I noticed that links in certain applications open in IE10 instead of my configured default browser, which every link from this or any other application used to open in before that update and the reboot that followed the update.
I checked the Default Programs section in the system control panel, expecting maybe Microsoft wanted to get themselves in any more trouble with the EU and changing the default to IE. This was not the case however, all the associations were still pointing to the configured default browser, I noticed however I could not uncheck the defaults already set.
So despite the obvious configuration being correct, links would still open in IE10 even after yet another reboot.
I went ahead and checked the registry associations, and found that http(s) protocol as well as htm(l) filetypes were associated with Internet Explorer with various EditFlags set (presumably to prevent changing them through the user interface, or to ignore the user interface settings).

Seriously Microsoft? Don't you have enough trouble yet?

Oh boy!

I am running Windows XP Home Edition SP2.

Here is where I will start. My apologies, this might be long winded.
I was having problems with browsing (posted this prior) and wasn't getting anywhere with attempting to adjust browser settings. I was getting blocked going regular places. So... after getting very aggravated, I accessed Symantec's online chat help w/ an analyst. During this time, the analyst remotely accessed my computer on two occassions, ultimately finding out that the problem was not with the Norton 360 but was with IE (v.7). We were having problems with connectivity. He said his system said I was disconnected yet he was still in my system. He started a notepad doc to chat with me, saying that we were locking up and I should Google the verbage I was receiving during the browsing blocks I was receiving. As I was typing a response saying I have done that, we were disconnected. Since I knew what I had originally found, I disconnected completely and left it for today since more than 2-3 hours have now passed. Today, I cannot access my email. I receive an HTTP 405 error. (Programming error). I noted that in the heading, the address started like this: hxxp:// After searching that on the web, I found that this is a BAD thing. I also noticed that the Phishing filter was off. Message said "Phishing filter cannot check this website because the Microsoft online service is temporarily unavailable&qu... Read more

Have you tried using an alternate browser like Firefox to see if you encounter the same problem? If you can use Firefox, then will narrow the problem down to an IE issue.Since you cannot run the Housecall or Panda scans, if you install Firefox you can then perform and online scan using Trend Micro Housecall Scan for Firefox. This also leads me to believe you have an ActiveX problem.

For the past several weeks now, when I check my Yahoo email account using IE 8 version (actions performed: clicking on the Inbox, moving from email to email, opening an email) I am redirected to this website:

This does not happen all the time. It seems to be sporadic. I can have periods of time when this does not happen (I can open several messages or navigate from one message to another and not have a problem) then all of a sudden I will be redirected to the site listed above. If I click the back button I can get back to my email and move around once again. The redirect may or may not occur again or from that point forward. From what I have read online, there doesn't seem to be a fix for this issue.

I have tried running several scans with Malwarebytes (in safe mode), Ad-Aware, AVG, Spybot, Hitman Pro 3.5 and ComboFix. But, none of these scans have returned any results that have resolved this issue. I have also removed all versions of Java and updated to the latest version (Java 6 update 23). I've also removed all versions of Adobe and installed Adobe Reader X version 10.0.0 as I have read that keeping old versions may pose a security risk. I belong to one Yahoo Group and have my email for that group set up for "individual emails" for all group messages. I receive all messages daily from all other group members except one member. Can't figure out why I don't get his messages (makes no difference if it is text only messages or messages with pics attached). The only way I know this particular member has posted to the group is when other members have their group email settings set up to automatically affix all/part of posts at the bottom of their replies to same. As you see by my signature, I use Firefox 1.5.09 as my default browser. My other realtime running programs also listed there, but I don't think they could be a factor. Not sure whether Firefox is a factor with the blocking. I have asked this member to post a test message today and I am accessing the net exclusively via IE6 today to see if his test message comes through or not. Will report back my findings on that score. BTW, I do not use an email client. I read all my mail directly off the Yahoo Mail website. Only thought I've had, is once or twice my mail has "bounced" because my inbox was full. But my inbox rarely gets full. And this problem seems to be more persistent than just a few occasions. Anyone have any additional thoughts on what could be causing my dilemma?

A:Yahoo Web-based Email/yahoo Groups Problem

Don't know if it is the problem, but just realized I normally keep my mail options set to "automatically delete" bulk mail messages. Maybe somehow this group member's messages are being "perceived" as spam and Yahoo's spam filter is blocking his posts. I've gone into my settings just now and told it to hold those messages a week for me so I can test possible factor. Will post back my findings.

No reason for them to be open unless someone/something has them running at boot, IMO.
I'd use a startup manager such as Startup Control Panel - and see what's listed.  Any items listed can be unchecked to prevent them running at boot, this does not prevent the program from running on demand.

I use about 5 different internet based email accounts to manage my affairs( Yahoo email mostly, but also Hotmail and Gmail, etc,....NO Onboard email used at all) . Some are for friends email, some for family, others for various business interests, online purchase, etc. If I get certain emails, I NEED to know about it ASAP as I'm working/browsing on my computer.

I have used a program called "eprompter" before but found it unreliable. Sometimes it would not notify me at all that a new email had just arrived that I'd been waiting for. That is very aggrevating when they are important and need to be opened and replied to promptly. That NOT being notified at all when new a email arrives in my Inbox Can Not Happen. Most of them are TOO Important for it to just not tell me about!

And also, if I independantly just go to my Yahoo Inbox, I notice it just marks emails I have not already read. That's Spooky! I Just DON'T Trust ePrompter!!!

There Must be a good one that doesn't try to fake out whether you've seen emails or not !

I have a laptop and desktop both with Windows vista home premium sp1. I want to
put my Yahoo!mail as my default email sender on my desktop. I do not have the
payed Yahoo version on either computer, but I was somehow able to do it on my
laptop. I don't know how I was able to do it on my laptop, but when I open my
default program window on the laptop Yahoo is on the list and it operates my
out going mail from websites. Instead of going to Windows Mail, it opens my Yahoo
mail and I am able to send from there.I have tried tirelessly to do the same on the
desktop with no luck. I don't get it, I have the same OS on both computers.
Does anyone have any in site? P.S. Laptop is 32bit desktop is x64....would that make
a difference?

i want to change my mail program. i thought to go to internet options but it only gives outlook or windows live options and won't let me " put in" yahoo. I have winxp. I use ff and ie7 (i believe?) the reason i want yahoo as the default is so when i click on a link to send email it always opens windows live so then i have to copy the address i'm sending to and then go to my yahoo mail to compose and send. thank-you

Hi dickward,

I can't see how you could go wrong with those instructions.

First thing is when you downloaded it, did you install it? Stupid question, but...

Second, if you changed the default that should now show. So...

In Internet Properties, If you click the ?Programs? tab along the top now, what default email is showing?

ok, I believe this is due to some bad windows update, but there isn't a list that i can locate to uninstall.

I've already tried force uninstall all remnants,

FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*11.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart"

FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*10.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart"
FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*9.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart"

after a reboot, I will get IE8., then I am able to only install ie10. (I've already tried installing ie9/ie11 with the antivirus uninstalled with no effect)

in the windows update screen.
ie11 fails with 9c59,
ie9 fails with 3715
When I run IE10, it will load up, for a while (white completely devoid of any text/icons/menu) then close with no error message (even in eventlog) , I've tried reset to default settings/restore advanced settings from control panel\internet options\advanced tab.

KB2846071 does not appear to be installed.

Sorry if this has already been asked - I'm trying to catch up with developments and it seems easier asking rather than blundering my way between Metro and Normal mode.

For regular browsing I'm using IE10 from the normal Windows desktop. I find that if a program opens IE10, it opens the metro style IE10 (is that the right terminology?). For example, if I use Control Panel > Appearance and Personalisation to go get some online themes, I get this metro-style IE10 opening.

Is there way to turn off the Metro style IE10, and just use the classic one?

Is there a way to make Yahoo my default email editor when I click on Mailto links on web pages. I go to IE tools and the only choices I have are:
Outlook express and Windows Live mail.

I have tried to do a search in the forums and do not see a solution.

A:Making Yahoo Mail My Default Editor?

That feature is built into Internet Explorer, which is made by Microsoft, and so I doubt it will let you use a non-Microsoft program for that. I may be wrong, but I haven't seen anyone use anything but Outlook Express for that.

I have been on Yahoo Mail for years and now I cannot get into it, ie. when I open Internet Options it is no longer listed as a program to set as Default Provider, and as a result, most of my emails won't open or won,t let "links" open and I really need this to be operating. Any suggestions? Skypilot7

A:reinstating Yahoo mail as my Default Provider

You have me confused, you need to elaborate slightly more. What do you mean by you have been on Yahoo Mail for years? Do you access yahoo mail through a browser or is it an application you have installed on your machine?
When you say 'Internet Options', are you talking about when you go into Internet Explorer and click on Internet Options or through Control Panel? Why should Yahoo Mail be listed on Internet Options as your default provider?

When opening Explorer initially, the address bar loads with but I have to hit the 'go' button for the page to load. This appears to be happening elsewhere (examples include some links in where the browser page loads but the address bar is actually empty). I am guessing that in my attempts to stop malware attacks, I've activated a control that I didn't intend to.In what I believe to be a related topic, my kids have complained that they get knocked out of Worlds of Warcraft fairly regularly and it is a recent occurrence.I use Ad-aware, Spybot, Spyblaster (just added based on this site's recommendation) and Winpatrol. Norton is my anti-virus. If one is the cause, Winpatrol is most likely given the timing but I can't be sure.Any help is appreciated.

I have a new computer. I thought I had Yahoo installed on the new computer because I can send and receive email. But I cannot send an attachment or photo. "There is no email program associated.... Create an association in the default programs control panel." I have tried several different things such as regedit 32exe (and 64exe)/HKEY/clients/mail, etc., but cannot get past the "exe" part. I get the red X box telling me that an error occurred in opening the file. So then I tried start/default programs/set program association/non-Microsoft and Custom.

The problem is that "use current email" is already checked in the window which appears during the latter process. There are no other email programs to select, nor is there a place to type in another email program.

A:Problems creating default association for Yahoo mail

The free Yahoo does not natively support this since it is not a program, but rather a web based email. You can (possibly) get it to work with the Yahoo toolbar (unsure it works for sure with IE11)

If I'm in the wrong section, I do apologize! I actually have two questions. The most important.......I use Yahoo email. I get a ton of SPAM everyday but I have the box checked >> "Empty Spam Folder: Immediately".
In the past, the folder would never have even one spam in it when this is checked but now, it makes no difference. Has anyone had this same issue? Any assistance would really help me out.
The other unrelated question >> Is there a DECENT FREE anti virus program I can download?
When I say FREE, I'm not talking about the free 30 day trial, then I have to get my credit card out. Thats not free in my book. Free, 365 days per year would be great. Any advice? As always, thanks for the help guys. You do more good for others than you may know.

Hi, and welcome.
Can't help you with the first part, but I have been using Avast for about three years now on several computers, with only ever one problem. This was a false positive which resulted in my having to re-install all my graphics software. All Avast (free) costs is an e-mail address for registration, then you get 12 months use, and need to renew the registration annually. I also use Malwarebytes and Super Anti-spyware (both free and downloadable from this web-site).
The only thing is to be careful when downloading and installing it that you click on the 'Free' buttons !
If you decide you don't like Avast, then AVG is also generally well  thought of.

This is my first post to Tech Support Guy Forum so forgive me if it's not the appropriate type of message (I read the rules and they didn't explicitly say this type of message is bad).

Basically this is the Reader's Digest version of the excruciating pain I've gone through with Yahoo email and I'm wondering if anyone else came across someone with a similar problem. Caution: this is really bizarre.

I had been a Yahoo PAYING customer (Yahoo Mail Plus) for approximately 7 years. On August 31, 2004 Yahoo performed a rather serious software upgrade of their email system. Since that very moment my email account has been completely hosed. It started out with my account actually being cross-linked with an account of someone in India (when I logged into MY account with MY id and pwd I was dropped into HIS inbox where I could see his email and mine). After a few weeks and several essentially unanswered contacts sent to Yahoo (including the CEO, the founders, etc) that issue resolved itself (you know as well as I that the just fixed the major security hole and weren't admitting it). HOWEVER, when I was restored my true identity I was missing 7 years of email (all my folders were gone). In and of itself that's not terribly exciting, HOWEVER, the "thrill" lies with Yahoo's supposed customer service and customer relations. Through my numerous complaints to the Better Business Bureau Yahoo has stuck to their guns that the issue I used to h... Read more

A:Yahoo email - Over and out

Welcome to Tech Support ForumsBasically, I can only affirm Yahoo's "policy"
They never seem to admit any changes or errors, unless they want to. No matter how minor. Also, it seems to take a mandatory 5 emails to get the attention of someone that doesn't just paste a standard reply to your problem.

Among a few incidences, they did lose graphic files that were in my briefcase/photo album. I wasn't and am not concerned because I have copies and they weren't that important anyway. However, the last email (of many) from them was at the beginning of the year saying their engineering dept would look into it and let me know. Not holding my breath.

Yet, I do like Yahoo! - just download copies of everything important.

I have used Yahoo from my home office for 15 years, and just in the past few months am only receiving a fraction of emails from one particular freelancer. This is someone I email back and forth with a dozen times a day, and yet only half his emails get to me. He gets ALL of my emails to him. Many of our emails have attachments, but there doesn't seem to be a correlation as to whether that plays a role. I use Windows 98 (I think! sorry!).

In the Yahoo ID box, the email ID's are automatically available and all I have to do is select which email ID I want at the time
--- When I complete the new Yahoo accounts, how do I clear the automatically available feature so the ID's are not automatically available?
--- After that I will want to renable the automatically available feature so only the new ones show up
--- The "Keep me signed in box" isn't checked
I have gone into Internet Options and selected Delete autocomplete history under the Content tab but it doesn't help

first of all, you have either winxp home or win2k as both are different OS's. so you login to yahoo, read the email and then it won't delete - thats puzzling. did you use the delete button that is right there on your screen. the delete button on your keyboard won't delete the email. also with yahoo, on the main page right after you login, you can look at all the emails and who they came from (with the subject) and put a check in that little white box there on the left side and then either at the top or bottom - click delete to delete the ones you selected. there is also an option for select all which checks all the boxes, then you click delete and poof they are gone. hth...doc

Until recently I could send an email to myself from myself using Yahoo. Now I try it & I never get the email.
Can someone tell me how to correct this?
Thank you, H.

A:Yahoo email

Check your spam folder and/or spam filter settings. Maybe Yahoo caught on that many spammers use their target's e-mail address for both the "To" and "From" headers in the hope of sneaking past spam filters.

My email inbox all of the suddon looks very old and generic-sumwhat hard to explain.
I belive this occured when I was trying to open a document, which was an email document and Its like it switched me back to a VERY VERY old versioin of yahoo. When I click on my address book, it looks like it used too. Ive tried talking with there tech support and they are no help cause they cannot see what I am talking about. They keep insisting that I used to use Beta and need to go back, however I NEVER used Beta.
It looks very generic, does not even say at and t yahoo, colorless and very blah. I will try to send a link, I REALLY hope someone can help me.

In recent weeks I can't seem to email pictures with yahoo. I used to be able to copy and paste a picture from the web and embed it into the body of the email. However now when people open the mail they get a blank box with a red X in the upper left hand corner. I don't want to sed the pictures as attachments but rather as part of the email itself. It just stopped working and I can't seem to do it any more. I have the new yahoo mail and I even tried yahoo classic, but I still get that box with the X. Does anybody know what is going on here?

My email keeps automatically deleting. Sometimes I can save them for weeks and then sometimes they delete within a few days of receiving them. They do not end up in my "deleted" emails. They are just gone!

My Yahoo Messenger starts & I can use it. Can not log into my Yahoo Email, photos, 360 or change my Yahoo profile, because it says I have to log in & I keep getting looped back to log in..... over & over. I have tried the long list that Yahoo advised me to try, several times. I even uninstalled Yahoo & re installed it & still same trouble. I tried to send a report to Yahoo thru the Help on Yahoo Messenger & it will not send my diagnostic logs.
After reinstalling, I tried to bring up my Yahoo Email from the 'START' & programs & got this ERROR message. Error Loading C:\PRogra~1\Yahoo!\Common\ymmmapi.dll

Can someone tell me how & where to find & fix this? Thank you very much, Sheryll.

I have a strange problem with access to my Yahoo mail in Internet Explorer. For some reason the URL is changing sometimes from uk.mc240 at the beginning of it to de.mc290 and where you sometimes try and access your mail and get a message up to the effect that it is temporarily down but then click again and you can access your mail, when the de.mc290 is showng the message box opens in what appears to be German. I have emailed Yahoo but not heard from them yet. I used an Internet Cafe recently while in Spain and wondered if someone is now accessing my email but I have changed my password. Has anyone experienced this and can advise me if there is anything I can do to stop it happening?

Does anyone know how to get my AOL mail forwarded to Yahoo? AOL is blocked at my job and want to be able to check e-mail. Yahoo only checks POP mail and AOl is IMAP.

A:AOL Email in Yahoo

Your company has good reason to bock the connection, and we're not going to help you get around that. You'll just have to wait until you get home to check your AOL account.

She's been hacked, maybe infected. At the very least, she should change her password but also scan for malware.

__I'm very new to Windows 7. I'm trying to get something like the old Outlook Express so I can just put it on my desktop and go. When I scan some thing I want to be able to send it to email and send. I don't have a default email is what my Kodak 3200 AIO tells me. Windows Live won't work because of some sort of port problem. Right now I use I.E. 8 and favorites to get to my P/S Windows 7 Home Premium

A:Email set to default

It appears that they have done away with Outlook Express in Windows 7....
