KB2575719 Appearing as Optional Update Sept 2

Q: KB2575719 Appearing as Optional Update Sept 2

This update is now appearing as optional update available on my pc's. Any problems with this? I am running scared about installing "optional" updates since the last two month's fiascos. KB2975719 is correct number - sorry for mispost originally . For now, I have just "hidden" this update - afraid to try to install it.....lol. Microsoft has gone completely berserk with Windows Updates, it seems.

August 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 Note it says This update is released on September 2, 2014.

A: KB2575719 Appearing as Optional Update Sept 2

I guess it's a fix for the original version from last month's bug. That shows up today as an update for me also, even though I still have that KB installed. I wonder if the original (buggy?) version needs to be uninstalled first?

Hi,

For the last 2 weeks every time I scan my computer with Malwarebytes it shows that there is 1 infected file, in the: C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\File System\000\t\00\00000000. It says that it is a PUP.Optional.Installrex and I get rid of it everytime but it keeps returning. I have no idea what causes this so I hope someone can help ;)

The update is called:
nvidia - Graphics adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Other hardware - NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M.
After installing it, whenever my laptop tries to use the Nvidia card, I get a blue screen and the system restarts.
I looked in installed updates to uninstall it, and it is not there.
I did a system restore to four days before I installed it, and I still get the same effect. Lastly, I installed some older nvidia drivers that used to work using the clean install option, and I still have this problem.

A:Optional update in windows update is giving me a blue screen.

It looks as though the update changed something in nvlddmkm.sys, and for some reason, it wasn't changed back when I did the system restore. I have no idea how to go about fixing it.

A:optional update

Hello SpeedDial,

No, you do not have to. It's just to let you know that there is a new optional driver version update. If you do not want to install it, then you can hide it to not see it anymore in Windows Update. However, you might give it a try since it is a new version that may help improve your graphic card's performance. If not, you can always rollback to the previous driver version.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I opened Windows Update and only listed was an optional update. I didn't update at that time and when I went back to update I could not find the optional update. Ihave Windows 7 Home premium 64 Bit. I looked for updates again but it said everything was up to date. How can I find that update.. I'm not really good with computers any help will be greatly appreciated. I have one other question if you don't mind.

I have to Unzip a ZIP-file with WinZip and save the content to my hard
drive. Then use the unzipped EXE-file to run a program. This sound simple enough, I guess, if you know what you are doing. Where can I get this WinZip program that will run on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit.

One other question. A program that I want to install supports Windows 7 64 bit in 32-bit emulation mode. What does that mean and how do I run this program.

Thanks again for all your help and cooperation. Have a good evening.

A:Optional Update

Welcome rottikid,

For the update it was probably for MSE if that's your Anti-Virus, You could just look at Installed updates and see if it is there.

As for WinZip you can get it here WinZip - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com There might be something else you can use too, someone else might know more about that.

Usually people will download a zipped file to their desktop or downloads area by clicking save instead of run when prompted. (see Below)

And for the 32 bit emulation I don't know the technical answer but 64 bit windows has 2 sets of programs files, Program Files (64bit) and Program Filesx86 (32bit).

Hope that helps you out some.

Advanced micro devices,inc-Graphics adapter wddm1.2-amd Radeon HD 6310 Graphics is this update important? I found it on my update list so I was just wondering if its okay to update also, what does this update do?

A:Optional Update

It is clearly an 'update' for the device driver for your graphics adapter, but I do not know what in particular that update fixes or improves about it.

Device drivers are small pieces of software that are the link between Windows and the various pieces of hardware on the computer. If Windows or wants to draw something on the screen, it gets the device driver for your graphics adapter to do it.. Device drivers are specific to the exact model of hardware that they are designed for, and sometimes to that hardware being used on a particular model of computer.

I am a bit wary about accepting device driver updates from Microsoft updates, but do not ignore them. In particular, I would think carefully about this one, and ensure that the update matches the driver already installed on your system. My reasoning being that device drivers can be issued through four different channels (each subtly different).

The Manufacturer of your computer. If you have let's say a "Bloggs model X1000" laptop - The most appropriate driver updates might well come from "Bloggs" themselves... They will know how best to use that model of graphics adapter in their system, and might have modified the drivers (or include specific support software) that they supply to best match their system.

A:Optional Update - not sure what it is ?

This is an update to your NVidia graphics card drivers, etc. It is optional because it is not necessarily required.

I personally always go to the manufacturer's (NVidia in this case) support site and get the latest drivers from there if I feel I need to update them.

My computer automatically updated today. Upon going through the list of updates there where two optional updates one for English and the other for CXT-Network-PCI soft data fax modem with smart CP. What are they? Do I really need them? I checked the Microsoft help thing when your right click for info. All I could get was it was a driver and nothing else.

A:optional update

You must have this kind of card on your system using Windows drivers, then when there is a new driver WU propose it to make an upgrade.
My personnal advise regarding WU setup is to look for updates letting you the choice to download and install them.

There have been a lot of problems reported the last few months where Windows Update is very slow and takes a long time.
I just checked my W7 Updates and a new update KB3102810 was published yesterday (2015-11-03)
This update might help fix this, but it also includes a fix for updating to Win 10.

Read more here:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3102810

I also get the "same update" offered for W8.1 as KB3102812 described here:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3102812

A:New optional update

I promptly hid KB3102810 and another optional one when they came through recently; I still have two important ones from yesterday pending (KB2758857 and KB3067904); I'm waiting to see if anyone reports problems or not. I haven't had any trouble with windows updates taking too long to do its thing and I don't need a fix for updating to Win 10 because that simply isn't going to happen. In fact, I suspect the ones who have been having trouble with updates also have the Win 10 nagware, etc. installed, which I do not.

of which I haven't seen any reports of BSOD's occurring from. Didn't happen to get it through Windows Update did you? If so do yourself and your computer a favor and the next time you see one offered, set it to hidden and forget about it. For video card updates do not get them through Windows Update and only ever get them directly from the card manufacturer's (AMD or Nvidia specifically, not the respective card makers as all they will have is what AMD and Nvidia have).

OR

If you had the Show me detailed notifications when new Microsoft software is available setting checked.

There was an optional Windows Update today to remove GWX.

Someone mentioned online months ago that adding 'old' to the GWX folder stopped it from popping up messages, which is what I did and it seemed to work.

I have now installed the optional update to remove all trace of GWX, restarted, but the GWX folder is still there.

I'm thinking that because it had 'old' at the end of it, it was not removed?

I tried deleting the GWX folder, but I was denied permission to do so.

Interesting, Think I read about this a while back, just checked though and this update installed for me on Saturday

Hope its not an auto download, on one PC with my slow BB its a pain, if all 4 of my devices decided to download at the same time it would be a nightmare

An optional update for the Dell ST2210 was recently issued, but I can find no actual description of the update's purpose. I have googled. I have also registered and attempted to ask in the Dell Community, but without success, for I cannot work out how one does post there.

I hope someone can help me to where full descriptions of such updates are to be found, and also perhaps with the other problem.

A:Optional update for ST2210 monitor

Is it appearing in Windows Update? If so, it is likely a new driver, and should be safe to accept.

Microsoft lists this as an optional update. I am running Windows 7 upgrade over Vista and have had a lot of problems with permissions and so am disgusted with Microsoft right now and leery of installing any more of their crappy software.

Is Silverlight the typical Microsoft crap or something you think I should install?

A:Microsoft Optional Update Silverlight - yes or no?

The critical and hardware Microsoft Updates are very necessary. Silverlight enhances some Internet video playback. I view Netflix streaming video. Without installing Silverlight, I couldn't do this viewing. If you use Windows Live, Silverlight is necessary for those features, When you upgraded to Windows 7 over Vista, you should have backed up your files and deleted the Vista partition on the hard drive at the start of the Windows 7 install

I have two computers in the house on 8.1. I noticed yesterday that on one computer, a certain update was listed as optional, while on the other computer it was listed as important (ftr it was update 3132080). This is not the first time I've noticed that an update is listed differently on the two computers. Anyone know why this is? There really isn't much difference in the setup between the two computers.

Hello, I just got on my laptop like normally and randomly a window popped up saying "You may be a victim of software counterfeiting." This scared me half to death because I have no idea what to do about it. I checked other forums about it on several different sites, some saying it's a virus such as ransomware and others saying it is legit.
Here is what the alert looks like: http://www.kodyaz.com/images/windows-7/you-may-be-a-victim-of-software-counterfeiting.PNG
I have no idea how to fix this problem; any help would be greatly appreciated,

Hi, I've just had a new optional update appear in Windows update that I can't find any information about, it's a keyboard driver from an LXD company, my keyboard is made by Zalman so I thought I just wanted to ask what this update actually does before I install it.

A:Optional gaming keyboard update

I've had one from Microsoft for my Sidewinder X4 sitting there for ages but I haven't installed it. If there's no performance issue with your keyboard I'd just leave it, or set a Restore Point prior to installing if you do feel inclined to install it.

A:Optional update delivery is not working

Was it actually unlockforus, or just a similar pop up ?Those are very sketchy details. Was it a torrent video, a specific video, a porn video, or don't you remember what you were even watching ??If you are concerned about it being an infection, maybe you could post in the Am I Infected area of the forum.

This is getting ridiculous !!!

From July 12th to today 29th, I had installed a total of 33 optional updates entirely about MSE. ( I use manual update method )

I am think of going back to Avast free edition !!! This MSE optional Update is B.S.

A:MSE optional update - just ranting. It's not a problem.

They average 2-3 a day so you may have even missed some.

I have mine set to run a quick scan everyday with "Check for ther latest virus and spyware definitions before running a scheduled scan" selected. So it updates automatically every day, but only once a day when the scan runs. So I suppose I'm missing at least one update each day but they are cumulative and for me it works fine.

I could probably get at least one additional update by adjusting the time I run the quick scan but I know that the way MSE auto updates is a bit odd. When I first was using it I let it install it's own updates without running a scan and it was kind of strange how it did it so I went with to quick scan everyday option. Works for me.

With the recent advent of MS sending out "tracking updates" for Windows 7 users, I have become leery of any updates including this one which is optional. Not very much info and pretty ambiguous.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3083324

A:Windows Optional Update (KB3083324)

I pretty much hide all optional updates and only do Security Updates. As far as Optional Updates go, I look through each and decide if I really need it. For instance I did not install an optional update regarding the Russian Ruble or Lithuanian currency.

I do not understand what Microsoft is doing with these Windows Update Client updates. KB3075851 was for August and now they are pushing another for September? I update fine and hide these Client updates. I also make sure I check Do not install updates, only notify me and I uncheck Give me Recommended updates the same way I receive important updates.

I opened up and saw the windows update options which included:
- Cumulative security update for IE9 kb2809289 (27Mb) (ticked by default)
- IE10 (69.1Mb) (unticked by default)

Would be ok to untick the ie9 update and tick the ie10 - which would mean that windows update will uninstall ie9 and install ie10?

A:Optional windows update IE10 and IE9

I found out why IE10 update option was unticked by default. It happens to need a platform update installed first which can cause problems. I'll let IE9 be for the meantime.

So, okay, an optional update showed up this morning to remove some broken Lenovo software: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/3107998

But this machine I'm typing at is an ancient-ASUS-motherboard machine, not a Lenovo.

Now, in this house there IS a Lenovo laptop (that has yet to be updated, probably, since it's early morning and my daughter carried it into her room so I can't yet get to it...).

Did Microsoft distribute this "Lenovo Fix" optional update to regular nonLenovo PC users?

Or did Microsoft get their database(s) confused and think this aAm machine is a Lenovo machine?

Or what?

Unfortunately I can only find the required updates but not any of the optional ones. Does anyone know where I can find these? Even if I search for the update number the search comes back empty. I installed Win7 using a manufacturer disk on top of Vista (not clean install).

After that, I had about 200 important and 80 optional updates to install.

I installed about half of the important and none of the optional.

Now I am installing newer updates and checking which to stay away to prevent Win10. I looked and couldn't find any of the 10 updates in the important update list. I did, however, find some in the optional updates list.

I have been reading a lot how MS installs these win10 updates automatically, but in my case, they are listed as optional. I wonder why, is it because MS changed their policy or because my laptop is pretty old and w10 is not recommended?

Anyways, here is the list of important updates still left to install. Could you more experienced members please take a look and tell me if I should avoid any of these?

Thank you.

A:Windows 10 GWX update KB3035583 listed as optional

None of those are on my list of "to avoid", but that doesn't mean you need them all or that you won't end up in Windows Update hell for whatever reason.

This was an option update that i accidently installed without knowing what it was,

Intel Corporation - Display - Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family

It has messed up my resolution and i can no longer fit it to how i want, there are only 2 different screen resolutions i can use. Also, i cannot run applications such as YouCam that came with my Laptop + windows 7 beause i "do not have the VGA software" or something :/

I go to device manager and uninstall this, but everytime i turn on my laptop again, the screen resolution is still messed up and then the driver will install itself again.

I find this really annoying how i cant have my screen resolution back

I really hope someone can help

THanks in advance

A:A Windows optional update has messed up my screen, help

If you're "un-installing" the driver, you could try "rolling back" the driver.

Maybe this will give you the result you need.

You may want to move to the newer driver eventually, so hopefully you can find a more permanent solution.

After you roll it back, hide it from WU

OK I am a moderate security guy trying to learn more from the REAL Security PROs. I was looking for server 2012 Installing and Configuring study material FOR FREE of course and got in a little to deep. I use Zone alarm firewall Free version and Malwarebytes religiously. As well as MSE as my regular day to day antivirus. Now normally I would not dig as deep as I did this time to get so ROOTKIT infected.
Recently I ran GMER and found a lot of RED in the registry; Files and other important places so I figured I need to reimage my machine......! I also ran Kaspersky's TDSSKiller and it came back clean?? I will attach the Kaspersky log below... Now I also use CMS Product Ultimate BounceBack version 11.4.0.29, I believe so I can make all this go away with a backup reimage. But I am pursuing my Server 2012 MCSA and eventually want to become Security focused. So I have all the Rootkit tools and have played with them in the past but in my experience it has always been best to completely reinstall the OS version, Whatever the OS may be at the time, and move forward because otherwise you are never going to completely clean the machine. Not to mention, the time saved by doing this speaks for itself. All that being said I would still like to get a better understanding of this from a Security standpoint..... Let me begin by saying that I don't know much about computers.
About a week ago I was having issues with my pc. I finally had the geek squad tech online people fix it. I think that one thing they did was to back up pc. I'm throwing this out there in case someone thinks this may have something to do with my issue.
When Windows 10 first came out I reserved it. I may install it sometime but not right now. I have the Windows icon on desktop and when I click on it and go in it says "theres nothing you need to do right now. You'll get a notification on your pc when windows 10 is ready to install." Also in there it says "Your upgrade is reserved"
I'm wondering why does this optional update (Update to Windows 10 Home) keep trying to install each time I start my pc?
Yesterday it downloaded to the point where a contract looking thing came up and wanted me to either accept or decline something. I did not read the whole thing or click either option. I finally got the download stopped and that was that.
I do not know what to do. If this downloads and install will I have windows 10?
Is it possible that if there was a backup done maybe the powers that be doesn't realize that I already have it reserved?
One more thing. Theres a Windows Defender important update that keeps failing. When I try to manually download it and install it the windows 10 update automatically starts to download. I also have important updates set to automatically download.

I installed this optional Windows Update (a huge mistake I now realize) labled "nVidia - Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.3, Graphics Adapter WDDM2.0 - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080", and after restarting the computer, I suddenly lost the aero effects to my computer.

The first thing that I noticed when I started up the computer again was that it had suddenly changed the screen resolution to 800x600 and rearranged my desktop icons, but I was able to put it back to its proper resolution. When I noticed the transparency gone from the explorer bar, I right-clicked on the screen and selected "Personalize" to fix it, only to notice at the bottom the message "Troubleshoot problems with transparency and other Aero effects".

After opening up the troubleshoot to find the problem, there's a message saying:

"Update the drive for your video card.

The current video card may support Aero with a driver that is compliant with the Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM). Contact the manufacturer of your computer or video card for a WDD-compatible driver".

How do I fix, please?

Hello everyone,

I just came to realize the Windows Update window does not show the usual thirty-something available optional updates (last time I checked it was all the language packs and an ATI driver update), only 1 available important update.

Moreover, if I try to select the updates I want to install, the "Optional" tab is completely missing from that window. I haven't hidden any of those updates, nor are they listed as hidden under the appropriate menu.

Have any of you experienced something like this? What should I try to get them back?

Thanks.

PS: I've attached a screenshot of the situation.

PPS: It's been a month or so since I last checked for updates, so I don't exactly know what might've happened that got those updates disabled.

A:Windows Update optional updates (incl. language packs) disappeared

Also, have you installed the SP1?

Still no symptoms.  Last week I saw the unsupported or unfound file image in the shortcuts next to the start menu, ran MBAM again, found this, deleted. ran other scans in safe mode w/networking, seemed clean.  Ran a scan just because today, no symptoms, 45 objects found.  Deleted again.  ran TDSS, found a partition. Don't know enough to comfortably delete.  Here's the DDS log.  I hope you can help quickly. My boss wants me to call the "computer guy" again, who I have no faith in, because every time we pay him to "fix it" I end up having to come here and get help because he doesn't actually fix anything, but still cashes the checks.
edit:1:46pm EST  Avira just popped up with detections of TR/Trash.Gen and TR/Drop.Softomat.AN in the System Volume Information folder, as both .exe and .dll under real time protection.

I just successfully upgraded my mom's XP machine to Win 8.1 cause of Microsoft's end-of-support for the old OS. It took the best part of a day backing up her files, installing and activating and then setting up new software on the new OS. It's not something I'd want to do again in a hurry and I'm a little concerned about this new update which I've just heard about. All this business of upgrading and updating is time consuming and stressful to me! I've set her updates to the recommended automatic setting, so what I want to know is: Will the update hijack her machine and install itself without warning once it becomes available or will it be an optional one that we can initiate ourselves? I'd rather it'd be the latter to be honest. She works from her home on her PC so any surprise down time while the patch installs is not desirable. The original 8 to 8.1 update on my own PC , took ages with several reboots so I'm kind of apprehensive about this new one.

A:Will 8.1 update 1 be an optional update?

Hello Nalydyenlo,

No worries. The "Windows 8.1 Update" will just be a Windows Update. You're not going to need to reinstall Windows.

I got prompted to download the windows update for the MS blaster issue the other night and even though I already installed it last month I installed this time anyway.

Why was it reposted on the MS website? Was it the same patch as released last July 16?
Then last night I got prompted to download the same patch again so I download and install it and then the next day it prompts me again to download the same patch.
Is this by design or something?

A:windows update re-appearing

HI, I doubt it is design. Looks like Update is not picking up that you have it. If you sure you have installed it correctly I would not bother installing it again and again. Peace Mal

I am using Asus computer running Windows 8.1 x64.

Whenever I check for Windows update it would be there (see screenshot 1 attached), even though update history showed many successful installation (see screenshot 2 attached).

Now, it is affecting the update of IE version 11.0.9600.17126 to 11.0.9600.17207 and Adobe Flash Player version 14.0.0.125 to 11.0.9600.17207 (see screenshot 3 attached) which may cause the computer to be vulnerable to exploit attack upon triggering IE and/or Adobe Flash Player.

Any help soonest possible would be much appreciated.

Recently updated my laptop and following the restart green flecks have appeared littered across the screen, which are not there where the laptop is switched off - I have attached a photo which should give you some visual reference.

I've tried restoring the system back one update, as before it the laptop functioned fine. Not quite sure what's best to do from here, any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi,

I just installed all the updates contained in 8.1 update 1. I like the way the taskbar pops up in Modern UI, but it seems inconsistent.
If I use the 'Start button' to switch to the Store, and I keep the mouse on the taskbar, the taskbar stays. If I move off it, it disappears. If I move the mouse back to the bottom of the screen, the majority of the time nothing happens. If I wiggle the mouse around at the bottom of the screen, after a while the taskbar appears. Sometimes, when I move off the taskbar, it doesn't disappear immediately.

Am I doing it wrong?

A definition for Windows Defender was installed as shown:

Installation date: ‎3/‎20/‎2015 8:55 PM
Installation status: Succeeded
Update type: Important

Currently Windows Defender is updated (today) to:
Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB2267602 (Definition 1.193.3369.0)
Installation date: ‎3/‎21/‎2015 8:19 AM
Installation status: Succeeded
Update type: Important

Between those two definitions--KB2267602 (Definition 1.193.3314.0) and KB2267602 (Definition 1.193.3363.0--were installed.

The installed updates list shows the .3002 shown above installed more than once, for example. Even after the "newest" (.3369) update shown above, it still appears as an update (Win Defender) to be downloaded. Odd, right?

Should I do a system restore to a point before the .3002 update? Is there another solution? This has not happened before.

Other than that, the Windows Defender program itself shows the latest definition in the update tab (.3369).

Some optional updates are useful and should be installed, some like Bing related items, Silverlight aren't, since you don't mention the KB numbers it's really hard to answer that.

Hello,

1) Does optional windows update KB3135445 contain any software for promoting Windows 10, or is it restricted to just making improvements to Windows Update?

2) I understand that in Windows 10 there are reduced option settings for Windows Update, so please would you also confirm that update KB3135445 will make no changes to the options currently available in the Settings options for Windows Update in
Windows 7.

Please do NOT refer me to the Microsoft More Information bulletin for update KB3135445, as I have already read it, as it does not provide the information / confirmation I am seeking in the questions I have put here.

(By the way, the aggressive adware-style approach by Microsoft to promote Windows 10 as an upgrade, in my opinion, is causing its customers to question the trust they have previously placed in Microsoft updates.)

I look forward to receiving answers to the two (numbered) questions I have put above.

I have a new Vista, and in the View Available Updates window I keep getting "Update for XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB98133)". I click to update, and it shows that it has been updated properly. In fact, in the View Update History panel, this update shows as having been installed correctly.

But the prompt keeps appearing. I have researched this, tried a couple of the suggestions to fix it, but to no avail.

Can someone help me either fix or eliminate this annoying prompt. I have been unable to find out exactly what this service pack does in the first place.

Thanks.

I just recently received my last Windows update and with it, I had an optional update for my NVIDIA GForce 8400....so, I thought "cool", and went ahead and downloaded/installed it through Windows. Never had issues before doing it that way until now. I have my monitors set (obviously within Windows) to power-off after 10 minutes. However, when it comes back from that status (i.e. move the mouse, hit a key, etc.) it freezes for a sec, goes black AGAIN, and then brings the desktop BACK up again, this time giving me the message I attached below in a .jpg.

Anyone with the same hardware or driver set experiencing this same bug?

which is confusing, because its the only one in chinese, and I bought my machine in the UK.
A chinese friend has told me that this translates to something like windows health checker, and under details, this path is given:

It seems a little fishy to me, if not confusing. Can anyone tell me if somethings wrong?

Firstly, I would like to thank you for your time and effort you put in this forum and to request your valuable help.
I'll try to outline my problem, sorry if I become very talkative.

Previous Infection:
It is about three monthes ago that my Dell XPS 1730 started to act peculiar. Initial scans show nothing from
ZoneAlarm Pro, Norton Symantec Corporate AV, Spywareblaster, Ad-aware, etc. When Norton actually found
an irrelevant worm, all things suggested that I have been infected by Vundo. I tried to clean the system myself
following suggestions from various forums (including yours) using Vundofix, HijackThis, Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware
and Combofix WITHOUT posting an actual thread, so it is me to blame that my system became unstable
and I had to set it up again. I have a triple partition HD so I format the boot partition with the installed Win XP
and kept the other two partitions that they have my files.

Current problems:
It seems that reformatting the booting partition and re-installing XP didn't solve my problem. Gradually, some problems
seem to return while others were never solved.
In case that gives you any idea I cannot see wanted (meaning popups I actually click on them) pop up windows
from two browsers (Firefox 3 & IE 7) when Java seems to be involved, flash buttons (which link to a new window)
dont seem to work too for most sites.

Hi, I couldn't boot up my computer one day. It would freeze about half way through the boot up process. Tried a few different things like safe mode, etc to no avail. Finally hit F9 and it went through some restoration process, but after this it still didn't boot up. I unplugged everything, waited a minute , plugged back in and it booted up completely. But I lost any files from Sept 05 to the present.

If I go into my system tools to "system restore" it will only let me go back to Aug 24th (which is the day of my problems). there is no "undo system restore" either.

any suggestions? There is an excel file that I would really like to recover if possible. the file itself was there because it was created before Sept 05, but I lost all info from that point on. It's a simple spreadsheet where I update my poker acitvity on a daily basis.

all help will be greatly appreciated.

You say you went thru some restoration process by pressing F9 on bootup. If this is the full system recovery there may be no way to get the file(s) back. Do you know the name of the file you are looking for? If so please post it?

On Sept 9th MS released the Sept updates. Three of these updates were faulty in that they were stuck in an installation loop which meant that even after installing they kept asking to be installed again.

The updates affected were KB2760411; KB2760588 and KB2760583. I have recently checked the MS updates and see that the issue date for these three updates is still at 9th Sept, which implies that MS has not fixed the problem. The most recent comment that I can find from MS is the following: -

“We’ve received reports of some customers experiencing issues when deploying some of September’s Office-related updates. We are investigating this issue and will act accordingly, to help ensure that our customers are protected,” Dustin Childs of Microsoft said in a statement on the matter.Click to expand...

Does anyone know if or when MS intend to fix the problem?

I have been trying over and over again and wasting hours trying to download critical updates for my Vista 32 with no luck. It just keeps saying "Checking for Updates." The same thing happened last month. Why isn't this working? So many wasted hours and anxiety. Is anyone else having same problem and what are you doing about it? MS should know about this problem. I've had problems downloading critical updates for Vista 32, Win 7 64 and Win 10 64.
Why is this continuing each month?
Can anyone help me with how to download the Vista 32 downloads PLEASE? I am 80 years old and as I said, wasting a lot of time and energy on this.
