Exception when scrolling a folder with 'large icon' view.

Q: Exception when scrolling a folder with 'large icon' view.

I'm using Kolor Autopano Pro, on W8 Pro. In this application there is a 'Select images' control which opens an explorer window to choose the images for a pano.

Often it crashes with an exception c0000374, as follows:

Extra information about the problem
Bucket ID: dae2bdc92438601f1b7abf5ca3a5c973 (104288499)

In particular it crashes if I scroll the window rapidly while the thumbnails are still being populated.
If I scroll it one row at a time to the very end, such that all the thumbnails (from DNG, JPG and TIF files) are filled in then I can use the slider to scroll rapidly up and down the window, no problem at all. Cycling through the different 'view' options is fine.

If I use the slider to scroll the window while the thumbnails are still being updated it crashes. Sometimes it crashes if I cycle through the 'view' options before the thumbnails are complete.

I suspect that this is really explorer.exe that crashes, but called by Autopano.

I have checked the HDD for errors. I have copied all the files off it, formatted it and put them all back. I have run sfc /scannow. I have checked the SMART data for the drive. I have run memtest86.

Since there are many thousands of image files on that drive the thumbnail data seems to be discarded by Windows, such that re-opening the file selection dialog often has to re-populate them from scratch.

Scrolling a vanilla explorer window in the same way doesn't make anything crash, even though it takes a while before all the thumbnails are done.

I can see some very similar exception details via Google, but with numerous apparent explanations.

I have full dumps turned on, and I have passed one to the author of Autopano Pro. However, it isn't clear whether this is simply explorer.exe or the caller who is at fault, I'm leaning towards explorer...

Any ideas?

This is what the window looks like when the application crashes - I've scrolled down using the slider, but only half the images have had a thumbnail filled-in:

- open Event Viewer (eventvwr.msc)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx

I've got a little registry file that I run on all my new installs. One thing I been wanting to add to it is the ability to set the Folder View settings to "Large Icons" for "All Folders". The manual way to do this is...

- Open folder
- Right-Click > View > Large Icons
- Tools > Folder Options > View > Apply to Folders

So basically I'm looking for the registry key that I can change to set this via reg file. I've tried digging around in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU & Bags but it looks like those are for all folders. I'm looking for the one specific key/value that windows checks to determine what the folder view should be.

Thanks in advance!

Hello, I want what's inside the external hard drive, to look the same no matter the pc it's plugged into.
So, I found how to change Folder Icons permanently from another thread,..
Now, what remains is changing the folder view, or else the icons won't be clear, so is that even possible?
PS. I know it's kinda OCD ..

A:External Hard Drive, Permanent Folder View (Folder Icon Size)

I did some research , and found that it was possible on windows xp via the "desktop.ini" through "FolderType=string" (eg: pictures, videos), but it seems it's impossible on windows 7.
The reason is that the " Show Common Tasks" in Folder options has been removed from windows 7.

I'm still looking for applications to do the following:
1. save desktop icon locations so I can pu them after right location when icons are all piled up from left.
2. set up the time to shut down the PC by counting down or by a specific time.

I had WinTidy to save and retrieve desktop icon locations and another to shutdown PC on Windows XP, but they don't work on Windows Vista.

Another issue is the folder view, I still can't make Vista display the files, folders as I need it to behave. Sometimes they just cut columns out (eg. Date modified, file size, date deleted for recycle bin). I have to set the stack to show Free space on HDs all the time, it keep disappearing.

Does anyone know solutions to my Vista problems?

Hey guys,

I've seen it done, and I used to do it a few years ago, but I've forgotten how to change the Windows icon, or hide it, in the top right corner of a folder. I've attached a sample view of my C:\ and as you can tell there is a Windows icon just kind of hovering. I'd like to change it, but hiding is okay too. Any tips on where to look?

A:Solved: Hiding or Changing the Windows Icon in Folder View

Dlenoxx, You can change it with Tweak UI Which is Free at the link below.

After you download and install it you'll find it in Start>Programs>Powertoys for Windows XP>Tweak UI.

Open it and on the left side click on the "+" in front of "Internet Explorer" then click on either "Small or Large Animation" and you'll see the various settings.

I recommend that you keep a record af all changes you make with Tweak UI in case you ever want to uninstall it you can undo the changes you made back to the Windows default settings.

I have two icons that I want to assign to two folders. Unfortunately, something has gone wrong. Let me explain what happened step by step:

1. I have two folders: "A" and "B".
2. I have two icons (.ico files): "A" and "B".
3. I place icon "A" in folder "A" and icon "B" in folder "B".
4. I assign icon "A" to folder "A" and icon "B" to folder "B".
5. I notice that I've switched the icons around.
6. I move icon "A" to folder "B" and icon "B" to folder "A".
7. I rename icon "A" to "B" and icon "B" to "A".
8. I assign icon "A" to folder "A" and icon "B" to folder "B".
9. I notice that I still get to see the switched-around icons that I assigned in step 4 in the large and extra large icon views. In the smaller views the folder icons are now correct.

Here's what I did to try solve this problem:

- Follow two tutorials: Icon Cache - Rebuild and Default File Associations - Restore in Windows 8 (for .ico files).
- Remove the icon cache using the Disk Cleanup utility.
- Run "sfc /scannow" and "chkdsk /f /r".
- Run CCleaner to cleanup the registry and manually remove some registry keys that I pinpointed by looking for the registry keys that change when I assign an icon to a folder.

On certain web pages, like, there is a window that contains various news topics. After a couple seconds, the window changes and displays a new set of topics. It will repeat this for five or six times and then repeat starting with the first.

My computer no longer does this. When the page is first brought up, the initial window will display the first set of topics. But when it is supposed to change to the next set, the window disappears. The browser remains open, and I can still interact with the rest of the page. But that "scrolling news window" is gone.

I noticed this a couple weeks ago, but didn't think much of it. But then my wife noticed it amd thinks I did something to the computer. I hope it is just a simple setting that was changed.

We have three PC's, one running XP Pro and the other two XP Home (all SP3). All have IE7 with Google toolbars, all have Acrobat Reader v.8. The two with XP Home can download a full PDF file of any size and read the whole thing in the browser without problems. The one with XP Pro won't do that - it downloads (say) the first 0.5 MB of the file and gets no further. IE7 displays the bit of the PDF it's got, but stops responding and has to be shut down from the Task Manager. Right clicking and "Save target as.." works fine. I've used the work round of disabling "View in Browser" in Adobe Reader, but the behaviour seems very odd indeed and baffles me! It's quite consistent on any PDF file greater than about 0.5MB.

Has anyone else encountered this and found a solution, other than disabling "browser view" as I have done?

Kindly stop starting multiple threads that discuss the same subject (libraries and user folders). Set up a quick view this morning, (stupid move) and now cannot get back to my account folders view... so for example to view recently sent items, quick view will only allow me to see all 3000 - everything I have ever sent... WHY?

If I un-click the quick view option, there is nothing in the folders pane, how do I return to the 'account folders view'?, each with their own inbox, sent box, deleted item etc

WLM has an 'all inbox' option, is there an option for 'all sent' or all drafts' etc files that have not been moved to 'storage folders' but are still live like the 'all inbox' files?

Is there a way of simplifying this bloated all or nothing menu? So much simpler and user friendly - like menus and shortcuts that AREN'T hidden.

Cheers - any help greatly received

On my friend's computer, when she tries to use the Filmstrip view on Windows Explorer, the large preview does not appear anywhere. Also, the thumbnails appear at the top of the window rather than at the bottom. This happening on every folder both on her local machine and on her server, and to every user on that computer.

Changing the customization of the folder to something else and then back does not fix it. I made sure she did not have the "Use Classic Folders" set and that the "Show common tasks in folders" setting is set. I also made sure that she was using the Windows XP style for her display. I just don't know what else to try. Is there a way to repair this, or to reinstall that particular pluggin? Whenever I view a folder which contains .MP4 (H264) video files in large icon view (shows thumbnails), Windows 7's Explorer crashes. Explorer loads for a few seconds, the green progress bar shows up, and then boom!, Explorer crashes. The thumbnails are not shown before crashing. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I tried setting Folder options to 'Always show icons, never thumbnails' (disables thumbnails) on the same folder with MP4 (H264) video files and Explorer doesn't crash if the MP4 thumbnails aren't shown. I tried testing in other folders containing other video formats (with 'Always show icons, never thumbnails' set to off) like .AVI/Xvid, without an MP4/H264 file, and Windows Explorer shows the thumbnails fine without crashing.

I have not currently experienced problems with other formats, only MP4/H264. The only media players that I have installed are KMPlayer and VLC Media Player which both do not install external codecs, AFAIK. The only external codec I have installed is CoreAVC, but I have been using CoreAVC for months (KMPlayer+CoreAVC is one of the first things I installed in Windows 7) without any problems (this issue just arose a few days ago).

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate, 32 bit.

Note: I prefer a solution that will not end up disabling video thumbnails for MP4 files. I still would like to see MP4 video thumbnails, if possible. If the video files themselves are problematic, I reckon Explorer should not crash and just not show the thumbnails.

I have just setup my new laptop with Windows 10 Home and installed Dropbox. I noticed that the Dropbox folder icon is offset compared to other icons. The folder part of the icon is more towards the top than all other folder icons. See this image:
Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet

I know it seems like a small issue, but once I saw this, I can't unsee it, and it annoys the heck out of me

So - I designed a new icon. It is basically the same, but with the position fixed and the Dropbox-logo is a flat design. If anyone is interested, you can grab it here:
Dropbox - dropbox-fixed.ico

It looks perfect when changed - BUT, once you restart the computer, the Dropbox folder icon reverts back to the default. I tried it several times.

So I was wondering if it is possible to change the icon elsewhere. Maybe in the regedit somewhere. I don't know enough about that stuff to mess with it.

Hope someone can help!

I'm using vista x64 ultimate, is anyone able to recreate this strange bug:
a folder containing about 150 files& folders, in list view , window maximized, sorted by name(default). scrolling all to the right of the folder, to a blank space, pasting there another folder of considerable size(~700mb ), whose name begins with one of the first letters(a).
when finished copying, the view jumps automatically to the beginning ,to the newly copied item, leaving artifacts on the screen.
This does not seem display driver related, as the issue does not occur anywhere else and no other issues exist.

A:vista folder scrolling artifacts bug

Everything you described seems normal except for "leaving artifacts on the screen". I don't know what you mean by that. What kind of artifacts? If you refresh the screen do they go away or do they stay? If you change screens (or even close Windows Explorer) and then go back to that folder, are the "artifacts" still there? Is it only this folder or does it happen with all folders (if a specific folder, what is the exact and entire file path to that folder (e.g., C:\Users\<username>\Pictures\Florida Trip)? Does it only occur with additions of large files (how large is the cutoff as far as you can tell?) or with any file you paste? What method of pasting are you using (File / Paste, Right click / Paste, CTRL-V,...)? Does this happen with any filetype or only with a certain filetype (if so, which one - for example, what was the filetype of this 700MB file)? When did this start happening?

Can you please provide a screen shot of the folder showing these "artifacts"?

Thanks. With answers to the above (and the screen shot), we will try to assist you in finding out what is going on and help you resolve it.

Good luck!

I love Windows 10 but this may be the most annoying feature so far for me and I have no clue how to turn it off. I've searched online and all results concern windows 8/7/vista... and not only were there no real solutions but there is nothing about Windows 10. Never encountered this in Win7 (and never used Win8).

the problem here is I can't see where I'm dropping the files, I use the list view and manage a lot of files this damn icon hides the folders! it's mad annoying and non-efficient, drives me crazy.
anything I can do?

thanks for any help

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew how to set a custom icon size for the taskbar icons in Windows 7. I know you can select between large or small, however I'd like something in between those sizes (call it medium).

The large size takes up too much space, and the small size is a little small for my 15 inch high res laptop screen. Is there a way I can specify the icon size myself through the registry?

A:Custom taskbar icon sizes? Not large or small

My guess would be that you are going to need some third party program to do this. But be careful> icon, cursor and screensaver programs frequently come with adware, spyware or other malware.

I just reinstalled win7 on this machine (clean install of win7 pro x64) and am trying to set it up the way it used to be. Right now on any program (notepad, whatever) when I do a "save as" it shows a details view of whatever is the default folder for that program, but then when I navigate to save it on the desktop it shows icons, instead of the details view (see attached screenshot). Same things happens when doing a "file open".

Can anyone tell me what setting I need to change to get it to be a details view instead of an icon view? Thanks

A:want details view, not icon view, for "save as"

I am unsure as I am currently on a win 8 machine, but I would look inf cpanel>folder options>view. I believe (from memory) there are some relevant options there.

I think if you set up the focused window the way you want then click apply to all folders it may do the trick

Anyway cant hurt.

Hi all,

First of all, new here and I apologize if this is not the correct environment for my question.

As the title suggests, my problem is this: every time I rename a folder, Vista changes the folder view settings in that folder back to the default for that specific folder.

I have gone through the tutorials in this forum about making Vista always remember the current folder settings. That is not my issue. An example of what I mean: Let us say I have a folder named "Music" and the folder view settings are set to 'Music Details'. Fine. But let us now say that I also want to show the bit rates and/or the length of the songs. 'Music Details' does not have this by default, so I right-click and at the bar (tab? menu?) and choose to show them. So far so good, and my settings are always there. However, if I change the folder name to something else, the view settings revert back to the original 'Music Details'.

Is there a way of stopping this from happening? I often change folder names and/or move them around, and it is annoying to always have to add/remove what I want from the view settings.

A:Keep folder view settings after renaming folder

Hello Quantum, and welcome to Vista Forums.

The Disable Automatic Folder Type Discovery for Templates section in METHOD TWO of the tutorial below should may be able to stop this for you, but it does involve resetting all folder view settings. You have to set the folder views to how you want them afterwards.

hi there people,
this is embarrassing!
been using Windows since forever but eyesight now failing.
Have increased the screen type size so that I can still read it, but now the icons are gigantic.
I do remember going through this exercise on my previous PC before I bought my Samsung R780 notebook and I did it then with a simple utility.

I am working on a project now that is overdue, so any help would be much appreciated.
I have quickly tried to find a similar problem via search with no luck.

Hi Folks,

My Vista 64 is very recently installed, but I'm constantly running into a rather senseless headache. No matter what I do, or how many times I do it, Vista seems intent on deciding for me how icons should be shown in my folders.

Mostly, I use the List option, which dates back countless years to the days of Windows 3.11--but is to this day the most effective and space economic icon View option. I've tried setting a folder the way I like it and then using the View tab in Folder Options to set all folders to that style. In fact, I've done this maybe over 100 times in my desperate desire to get things to look and feel the way I want them to look and feel. I don't want to spend all my time constantly fussing with View and related settings in Vista--I just want to boot up and go to work.

Does anyone know a secret way to get Vista to remember View settings between sessions (power cycles)? I seem to recall running into this problem a long time ago when I upgraded to Vista 32 on another computer. There was some registry edit that I was able to make that stopped this queer behavior and got things to work predictably again. But I can no longer remember the details of that ordeal (Windows products are so fraught with senseless problems that it's easy to forget the details of any one particular issue).

Any help would be vastly appreciated.

ok I did a lot of research and a lot of people seems to think they know what I am talking about but infact they dont, and i have try and tried many of the methods they suggested and its obviously not working thats why im posting here.

I want to manually change the icon size of the toolbar/quicklaunch, NOT the taskbar, but most likely the pinned icon via toolbar/quicklaunch in window 7. this might also be related to changing icon size of the pinned icon on taskbar, but its not the taskbar thats troubling me, it is the toolbar/quicklaunch icons.

options listed and exists large and small icon size. large is too large, small is too small. i believe and strongly believe there is a way to change it, either through registry, or resource hack some .dll file, i donno which but i would like to get some help from experts please.

i hope to see other people out there sharing the same pain as i do.
these are the things that ive tried.

- shellicon in registry size 16 to whatever it is, has not helped.
- desktop -> personalize -> windows color -> advanced settings -> captions.. etc none has helped.
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Control Panel -> Desktop -> WindowMetricsFind "MinWidth" which obviously has no effect on the toolbar/quiclaunch icon size.

A:change toolbar/quicklaunch icon size other than large/small.

those 3rd party program looks nice, but since they are not part of the taskbar, windows that are opened block them, and even if they do come with functions to be always on top, they block the windows that are opened instead.

unless theres a 3rd party dock that can be part of the taskbar, im wont be interested in it.

I tried to completely rename my pc acct, user profile folder, etc; using this thread:

User Profile Folder - Change User Account Folder Name

It didn't work. The 1st time I booted, W-7 had created a new acct with beginning user settings (taskbar programs, desktop, display, etc). I then reversed the changes and logged off. I rebooted and my original desktop and name appeared.

But, I also found an additional entry in C:\Users: a Temp folder with a padlock icon attached.

An instruction I followed in the rename procedures was to reverse any shared folders in C:Users.

For now, I've abandoned the rename & just want to clean up the damage. What should be done with the Temp folder with a padlock icon?

A:Temp folder with padlock icon in C:\User folder after try PC rename

I would not recommend a full rename as shown however you can go in users and rename your profile there. Since programs could still be using the original folder I would leave that be. If you tried to log into the account and you had not changed the registry correctly then Windows would have created that temporary folder. You can take ownership of it and look inside of it to make sure that you don't have data in there but I suspect that you don't. Provided that there isn't anything in there that is vital and your profile is working correctly then you should be able to remove that folder. Take Ownership of file

I was hoping to be able to change the default icon for "My Videos" folder. I have renamed it to "Downloads" to use as my download folder. I was hoping to be able to do this without creating a desktop.ini file. I'm hoping it's a registry entry, or failing that, I could change the icon in the dll, but a registry entry would be a lot easier.

Also, the "Recent" folder is never used, and I'd like to hide it from the user\recent list.

I'm having trouble with a game all of a sudden and I'm not sure if it's hardware or software related, so I may try to reinstall the game (even though it has been working perfectly fine for 4 years until now ) and see if that helps.

The game... NASCAR Racing 2003 Season... takes up about 15 gigs on my hard drive. I will burn most of the files to a CD, but I'd like to copy the entire folder or subfolders somewhere else on my hard drive (ample space) to make it an easier transfer later on.

The folder is 15 Gb. Will Windows let me copy and paste something that big? How long will it take?

Or is there a certain reasonable limit for each copy and paste? Don't want to make my CPU and hard drive explode to make matters worse.

If you want more features though, I recommend 7-Zip. It's lightweight, has a LOT of options, usually has better compression on ZIP (or you can use the 7z format which compresses even more), and is open-source : 7-Zip. It will add a context menu accessible via Right-Click in Explorer.

Hello. New user here looking for some help. I was cutting and pasting 4 media folders from C:/media/movies to C:/media/TV shows
I cut them. Clicked my media folder link to open it in file explorer and the TV shows folder was missing.
It was just there 5 minutes prior because I was looking to see what files I had there already and what I needed to move over. This folder was pretty large...30ish shows with multiple seasons. I believe it's too large for the recycle bin, but I checked there anyway. I also ensured the view hidden folders option was checked. I can see all other hidden folders. Not sure how that would have happened anyway. Also, a search for file names produces nothing. This is the only drive on the PC. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't notice a big increase of free space as if it was deleted. All other folders in C:/media ate still intact.

Just FYI - I no longer use "cut".  I always use "copy", then I go back and delete if it's not needed.
I've lost too many files that way
If you've cut and it hasn't appeared, try pasting again to see if it was just a glitch

Last night, just before bed time, my wife informed me that she had seen, earlier in the day, a message indicating low disk space on our Windows 7 (Home Premium) Laptop. I took a look at the properties on C drive and it was down to about a half GB free space. This was on an 80 GB partition on which Windows is located. I ran Disk Cleanup and there is still only a bit less than 3 GB free space. I took a quick look at the properties of each folder at the root of C drive and found that the C:\Windows folder occupied about 48 GB. Isn't this way too much? Could this be related to Windows 10 to which we never upgraded? I'll look a little further this weekend to see if I can locate the bulk of the files, but I'm guessing I'm going to have to remove some Windows Updates or something, and if so, I'll likely need a little coaching on that.

Your best bet would be to download an application like SpaceSniffer which would give you a graphical view of where the consumed space is going.

It's real easy to use. Just open the zipfile you download, drag the application to your desktop, and launch it.

I see your specs as Windows 7. You may want to right-click on the application and select 'Run as Administrator' which might give you a better view into folders that might otherwise be restricted.

I bought a laptop a few weeks ago, which had XP Pro preinstalled. It's not a big thing, but when I click on a shortcut and chose the change icon option, the navigation window pops up as it should; which allows you to go to the folder where your icons are. The thing is when I navigate to the folder where I keep a few icons I like to use, they don't show up as icons when I select the icon option under view. They are all the same, in fact I think the icon used is the one windows uses when it doesnt know what the file is. The icons show up this way even if I go straight to the folder instead of going through the change icon process. I don't know if this is connected, but video clips on this laptop don't display a thumbnail if thumbnail is selected under view. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. By the way, these icons still work if you select them but you just cant see what your selecting. They also show up as they should on my other computer

I use OE 6 on an XP Pro platform, and I need to move a large block of business emails from one OE folder to another. There are roughly 8,000 emails in this folder, and I need to move half to a new folder so they will compact properly.

Is there a FAST WAY to "Select" or highlight 4,000 out of 8,000 emails? It would take hours to hold down the Ctrl key and individually click all 4,000. Using Edit>Select All will not accomplish what I need. In a regular Windows folder, one can hold the Ctrl key and drag the cursor beside a long list of files to select them. Is there any way to do something similar inside an OE folder? Thanks.

i love portable .paf apps and pretty much download all i can find that i "might" use one day. every time i try to enter the folder i keep them in, explorer goes into the not responding state like it is
indexing all the files, or scanning them for some reason. i have defender off, do not use any software based firewall or any real time antivirus scanner at all. the process to enter the folder takes over a minute and every time i restart my system the same thing happens again. as long as i dont shut down then it is instantly accessible like all other folders on all my other hdds including the same hdd that the folder is on. it only seems to happen with the .paf files.

the folder is only 409 files at slightly over 5gb.

any suggestions?

A:Portable Applications Large Folder Backup

It might do that once, but it should not be doing it every single time. You don't have to keep it in the Program Files folder, you can put it anywhere. I keep my portable apps in a folder off my C drive made for them, it never does this.

I am puzzled why, as far as I can tell, everything else seems to be there except this one single folder.

This is what happened: I run registry cleaner section in Ccleaner, and following that it was giving me an error message that the locally stored profile can't load, and it could only log me on with a temporary profile. Needless to say, I could not access any of the things in my profile.

I took my computer to the service place, but first nothing was done for 3 days (3 very painful days without my computer and being worried about the fate of my things on it...) and then the IT guy did work on it some, but I don't know what he did and I don't think he did much or didn't get far in any case, because when I picked my computer up there was no difference.

After that I was searching for some answers or suggestions on various forums etc. I tried system restore but it could not restore it. Then I ran chkdsk and it worked, it repaired one file (ntuser) and then my profile loaded back, looking like it always did before, except that as far as I was able to remember, one single folder is missing.

I looked in the hidden files and folders (by doing: windows explorer : tools : folder options : view tab : check show hidden files and folders : uncheck hide protected operating system files : OK) but I don't see it there.

The folder I am talking about was probably quite large, containing many sizable word documents and a number of pdf files. I think it was in "my documents&... Read more

I have a small 64Gb SSD boot drive C:

I installed Windows ADK to enable EasusToDo imaging software to create a boot disk.

This has left 3 folders about 3Gb in size in my c:\users\me\appdata\local\temp folder

I have therefore very little free space left on the C drive.

The folder attributes are read only.

I as an administrator user have full access rights (confirmed in folder Properties) but when I try to delete the folders the error message asks for permission from me to delete. I give this permission, then it refuses, stating Try Again as it need permission from me.

This computer does not recognise boot CDs even though the BIOS order is set correctly. I was hoping to remove files using an Ubuntu live boot CD.

Windows Disk Cleanup utility just stalls - presumably it also cannot delete these files.

What to do?

A:Can't remove large files from Temp folder

Those are some pretty enormous temp files you have there. I've never heard of such large files in the temp folder before.
I've found using the program Unlocker really helpful in deleting stubborn files.

Download Unlocker 1.9.1 -

You may need to reboot if the file is especially stubborn but it tends to work most of the time.

Any clue as to what this file/folder is all about? And, more importantly, how to delete it? (Assuming it's not necessary.)

I was going to try to upload a .txt file here, but it is 62.22mb; and zipping the file only went down to about 42mb
I managed to take a screenshot of a small portion of the .txt doc contents. (I got that .txt file by using this DOS command: dir>0bad.txt)
You can see the obad1.jpg here on my website:

You can access the actual .txt document via my Dropbox account--it is a 62.22mb .txt file.

I've tried & tried to delete the folder...
~ via DOS commands
~ by right clicking it and selecting: delete.
~ by creating a .bat file

I've also tried to put the folder in my Comodo\s file list, so that I can mark it as: malicious.

I tried using: Fast Copy software --- because I read online that it might be good for deleting large files. (This 0bad file has about 1 million files in it--so says its Properties dialog box.)
I tried UBCD, but the CD would not boot up. (Despite using several diff CDs. I even tried it on another PC just to see if it would boot up--but no joy.

I tried to change its contents from a partially read only, by unchecking: read only. It took about 12 hrs for this process, but at the end of it, the: read only box is still "partially checked" -- meaning, it's not unchecked or check... Read more

I have just received a running out of system disk memory notice on my Windows XP desktop computer. I was a bit surprised because I don't store much on the system disk, and as part of an exercise discussed on another thread here I had recently cleaned it up. I ran a scan with AVG free which came up with nothing and also Spybot S&D which cleaned out as many temp files as it could. After this I noticed one very large "hidden" folder remaining in the temp folder. It was called ~eu0000. In it was a single file called .eunf.
I have a dual boot so I could probably quite easily delete the folder and file, but before doing so I am curious as to whether it might have been caused by malware.

The composite image above shows the location of files on my very full system drive, as well as the results of the AVG scan.

This image shows the Windows temp folder (after the S&D cleanup) containing the offending large folder.
I should appreciate any thoughts anyone has on this.

Is it eunf or just unf?

Clicking on a large folder in Explorer can cause a slowly-moving green progress bar. In some cases this can take several minutes to complete.

A common cause is thumbnail caching of image and video files, resulting from having properties | customize | "optimize this folder for:" set to pictures, vs documents or General items.

The most likely solution: in Explorer, right click on folder, select properties, customize, under "optimize this folder for:", select either General items, or documents. Set check box "Also apply this template to all subfolders", then click apply.

The slow progress bar is apparently caused by Explorer scanning the folder and all subfolders to pre-render thumbnail images for image and video files. This happens if the "optimize this folder" setting is pictures or videos. This happens when merely clicking on the top-level folder.

If "optimize this folder" is set to documents or General, the thumnails are not rendered until you actually click on the folder or sub-folder containing those.

This was discussed in another thread on this forum, but it was full of speculative remedies, and the actual cause and remedy was not posted until the last thread (and one year after the thread was started): Accessing drives in Windows Explorer takes a long time

I'm creating this thread with a more exact title and concise description, to aid in finding the solution based on a symptom search.

While the above is the most... Read more

I recently discovered a folder on my C: drive simply titled Boot. (Filepath is C/Windows/Boot) It is taking up 27 GB of my 37 GB available space. It wasn't always that large, but must have increased steadily in size in the almost 2 years I've owned the computer. This Boot folder has 4sub-folders, ranging in size from 4 GB to 10 GB, totaling the 27 GB, but when I open any of those 4 sub-folders, there are only a few files of a few KB each. This is not a hidden folder, and I located what I believe is theactual boot folder needed to boot up my computer. I am not able to delete the C/Windows/Boot folder or any of the folders or files inside of it. (It says I need administrative privileges, but I’m the administrator and the only user of the computer.) Starting a few weeks ago, this folder is causing me to continually get “Low Disk Space” pop-up bubbles. The other night, I cleaned up some spaceon my computer, ended up with 750 MB of free space, went to bed, and woke up to find I was down to 42 MB of free space. I suspect that somehow, stuff is automatically getting dumped into C/Windows/Boot. Would love to be able to fix this so I’m not always dealing with the “Low Disk Space” message. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. (Laymans terms please, if possible.) Thanks in advance.

and also when deleting files recycle bin shows a black icon..

please help...

A:Folder Icons Are invisible when viewed large

Hi Qwerty77
Try this:

1) Right click the folder and choose properties.
2) Click on the Customize Tab.
3) Choose Change Icon at the bottom
Pick an icon you want top use for the folder, then click ok.

You may have inadvertently clicked on a "white" space when choosing icons. (It is possible to create invisible folders in that manner, hence the black box.
Try right clicking on your desktop first, and click refresh.
Hope this helps...

A:divide 1 large folder into small folders

If you DID find such software, on what basis would it be dividing this large folder??

And, why not do it yourself from Explorer, by creating new Sub Folders and drag/dropping the files?

Hi all,
I have several hundred CDs ripped to my music library with each album stored in its own subfolder (which also contains a folder.jpg file of the album art). In XP when I viewed my music folder I saw a 2d thumbnail of the album art for each subfolder, whereas in Vista I see the album art at a 45 degree angle inside a little picture of a folder. This makes it much harder to see at a glance which album is which (and also takes much longer to load the images despite my new PC being several times faster than my old XP one). Is there any way to get rid of the folder icons and just display the album art in 2d like in XP?
Many thanks,

A:Display just a 2d folder.jpg for albums (without folder icon)?

man , i ve been tryin to do that for years and epic fail , i installed xp themes , i created transparent icons , i created icons of the folder.jpg itself and nothing worked , there is no way i could make the folders just show the album art (folder.jpg) only taking the whole thumbnail in large icon view without the folder icon and not on a 30 degree
and yes XP was awesome in that way , i sometimes go to see discographies through my old xp system by network just to see how good they look if folder.jpg was the large icon
please anyone solved this please say something
