AMD Drivers black screen, 3rd monitor doesnt work

Q: AMD Drivers black screen, 3rd monitor doesnt work

First off, I have done some research and found other similar posts around, but none of the solutions have helped me, and they don't directly line up with my problems.

I currently have Windows 7 installed, I am dual booting Windows 8 on a partition on my SSD because I am skeptical (though optimistic), and want to give it a go first. So I install Windows 8 professional 8.1 (It's from Microsoft's dreamspark program, if it makes a difference), and that works fine, then I install all the drivers.

I have 3 screens, on a fresh install, the two plugged into my card's mini displayport ports work as duplicate screens, and work fine. After a few minutes, Windows seems to find a version of the AMD drivers with Catalyst Control Center, which it installs, at which point I can use all 3 screens in a proper extended desktop. The problems arise when I try to install the latest AMD drivers myself. I am using the correct version, 64-bit for Windows 8.1. I have tried the latest stable release, 13.12, and beta release, 14.3.

In both cases, I begin installing the drivers, just as I would in Windows 7, about 2 thirds of the way through the installation one of the screens becomes inactive and the remaining two go black, not off, just black. I wait, nothing happens, the only thing to do is turn off the computer manually with the power button. When I turn it back on, the windows logo loads, but before the lock screen I get another black screen, this time with a cursor and the spinning loading logo. One time I got it to go to the desktop but furiously spamming the enter, escape, and space buttons, but the other times I have to reboot again. On the second reboot, windows loads fine, but now I can only use 2 screens. I can pick any 2 screens I want, and use them as a extended desktop, but if I right click the desktop, go to resolution, and try and activate the third screen, which is disabled, Windows won't let me apply. So long story short, with Windows provided drivers, all works fine, but when I try to install the latest proper AMD drivers, the whole multi monitors thing goes pear shaped.

Any ideas? I'm definitely using the right drivers, I have tried multiple versions. One post I found suggested going to Catalyst Control Center -> Video -> Color and changing the video colour to something other than the AMD preset - standard, but that didn't work. I've tried using AMD's complete uninstall utility to wipe all AMD video drivers, and start again, that didn't work. I'm lost.
Update:
I ran the windows updater, eventually it started updating a AMD microsystems something a rather...it was a graphics driver. Long story short it completely bricked the install. The screen, as with the updates I tried, went black, and there was nothing I could do. Restarting did nothing, it didn't even get to the UEFI boot option screen before the screen went black and all I got was a cursor. I tried using Windows repair, and it couldn't figure out what the problem was, so all thats left is for me to reformat the partition and try again.

Is this some sort of software thing to sort out? Or could my graphics card have some fundamental hardware incompatibility with Windows 8? I'll be honest, this is a huge pain in the ass...

My laptop screen when turned on shows 1/3 black and the remaining doesn't work. how to fix this problem?

A:How to repair the screen which is 1/3 black and doesnt work

First step is to try and external monitor on it. If that is OK then it is either a screen fault (most likely) or the cable that connects it to the motherboard. Vague possibility that one of the cable connectors might have worked loose.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

hey everyone, so i know that there have been lots of post similar to this, but none of the actual responses work in my case. I used my laptop in the morning, no problem, and that afternoon, after I logged in, "welcome" popped up, and it remained on that screen for approx 30 seconds, and then it turned black. the cursor works but you cant see anything, but it sounds like everything is loading. I tried to press control, alt, delete but that doesnt work. It just sits there.

So I tried running it in safe mode, and if i hold down f8, it beeps for a bit, and then sometimes it runs in safe mode, sometimes not. I tried doing a system restore, but that didnt work.

I dont know what else to do. My friends have no idea whats going on, so i can definitely use your expertise!!

Report back results as you go, as there may be other steps indicated including specific solutions to named infections if they don't clean up adequately, and WIn7 may not repair until cleaned up.

Hey! First off, I'm new here, and have no idea if I posted in the right topic ._. But I hope it's okay.

I'd really like to setup dual monitor, I've watched tutorials, readt n' stuff, and something seems to work here. I can move my mouse to the other monitor, and a window & stuff, but it's just black. I'm not a computer pro, not even close - but I know that I use that blue cable.

I have an old PC, but new parts & graphic card, which should support dual monitors. I use an Asus 21 thumb screen, with HDMI, but with an white big thing in the end (the one that goes into the computer). The other screen which I wish to connect is an old Dell screen. I've tried with 3 different screens - all the same problem. It seems like they're connected, and it says too - but the screen remains black on all 3 of them. All 3 were the same Dell screens.

Any help? :3
Thanks!

A:My other monitor seem to work - but is just black screen

First, welcome! This is a fantastic community. While we might only be on track 99.997% of the time, everyone here genuinely wants to help.

Dual monitors work if you video adapter support two monitors, of course most do these days.

Did you try dragging a window from screen to screen? I ask because you said you can see your mouse on that monitor. I use dual monitors all the time and the second monitor is black if I have nothing moved to it.

Also, there are various display modes, mirroring or otherwise.
Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Display > Screen Resolution
From here you can change the appearance, organization and virtual location of your displays.

The offending monitor is plugged in using an HDMI cable and will work in safe mode but will be stuck on the black screen and mouse pointer otherwise. The monitor is an HP w2207h, and I've already tried installing new drivers.

I've tried using VGA and that won't even show up. Do I need to get another HDMI if I'm going to use this monitor (assuming you're able to help me get it working by itself) as a second screen?

I've tried it with my laptop and it works. It appears to be a driver issue with my desktop or something like that, but I'm dumbfounded.

When I boot into safe mode on the offending monitor and go into screen resolution, the monitor has no name.

I also recently had to run system restore in safe mode on my desktop for an unrelated issue (my user account lost administrative privileges and I couldn't get them back. I don't think malware had anything to do with it, but what do I know).

A:Monitor with black screen and mouse pointer? Just this one;others work

In the screen resolution window, does windows see the other monitor? Have you tried the detecting tab? On the monitor itself, have you tried using the menu tabs/buttons for any results?

I just upgraded my fully operational vista 32bit to home premium 64bit. Everything is working in vista 64bit up untill I install my gfx card drivers. Vista will run perfectly on the generic drivers windows assigns to my card. When I successfully install the proper drivers from nvidia's website and reboot, windows will load the starting bar up then goto a black screen that I cannot do anything at. The system hangs up on me with no error message or any indication of problem.

I'm currently running in safemode right now and have treid reinstalling the drivers several times and each time they say working properly but unfortunatly I cannot get past a black screen on startup unless i uninstall nvidia drivers and let windows assign the generic drivers to the card.

Any help would be very apreciated.

So im using black glass enhanced on my visual style but it doesnt work when the cable unplugged, It was worked when cable plugged the transparency looks great with my visual screen. I already tried setting the power option to high performance when using battery and all other stuff like graphic power turned it on high performance too. Is there any solution to make the explorer transparent when i go unplugged?
I think the problem is the visual style is changed when unplugged and caused the glass black enhanced doesnt work with it. I have other transparent tool called moo0 transparent menu which is worked fine when unplugged, so i made the assumption that visual style cause the problems. FYI my notebook is Lenovo Flex 10

I am using a HP pavilion g6 laptop using windows 7 and this is my problem:
My computer screen keeps glitching out every time after it says shutting down after I shut it down. I am forced to turn it off manually after that occurs. Also my USB ports aren't detecting any devices when I plug in pre-installed devices such as my USB mouse, however there is still power going through the USB ports. This all happened after my computer froze and I had to turn it off manually. It froze due to too many tabs open and a program installing and another program running at the same time when I was modding a game (I know that wasn't the smartest idea). I know this isn't a virus however because this happened before after I did a similar thing with the tabs being open and programs running, but it was fixed easy after I used windows update. However this is different because I tried to use windows update and it did the same screen glitch and the same problem accrued. I would be grateful if anybody can help fix this. Thanks.

Im doing this for my Dad, so i have absolutely no idea how to describe the problem but i figured this place was my best shot as google is giving me no results on my query.
There appears to be no monitor drivers installed on the pc... and its running from the bare minimum settings. I think the refresh rate is set at a low low low setting, because lets say, if i move a window by dragging it across the screen, its all choppy, doesnt move smoothly at all... sort of like it jumps every half a second until i stop moving my mouse, then stops. The same with when i'm scrolling in internet explorer... smooth scrolling doesnt exsist! lol

I figured it was a driver problem seeing as there wasnt one installed. So i found the disk with the drivers on, and followed the instructions, which were as follows:
"Right Click" the mouse anywhere on the "BLANK" area on the desktop and click on PROPERTIES.
Click the SETTINGS tab and then click ADVANCED.
Click the MONITOR tab and then click PROPERTIES.
Under MONITOR PROPERTIES, click DRIVER then click UPDATE DRIVER.
On the HARDWARE UPDATE WIZARD, select Install from a list of specific location (ADVANCED) then click Next.
On the next HARDWARE UPDATE WIZARD window, select DON’T SEARCH, I WILL CHOOSE THE DRIVER TO INSTALL. Then click NEXT.
On the following window, click on HAVE DISK.

A:Monitor does not work and just stays black

Ok soo Im assuming the other monitor that worked is CRT ? Your current monitor does not turn on when you turn on the CPU. Do you see any lights on the monitor ? orange light possibly.

Turn monitor on and off again, then try using a different power cable, and finally try plugging in the monitor to your video cards other output.

If you still get nothing, then your monitor is busted. Take it back where you got it from or RMA. In mean time maybe this is good time for your to go dual monitor setup. Soo buy a 24 inch for 200 dollars, then when your monitor comes back from RMA make it your second monitor. ? youll never go back.....

Alrighty friends, I've been stumped. After some epic DayZ with the friends (as I have been for the passed week without issues), my game crashed upon closing. This is super, super common with everyone. It happens more than half the time to any given player. However, this time, my screen went black. So I restarted and noticed my bios wasn't at the correct resolution (Sure looked like 800x600) and the windows logo and spin circles were awfully fuzzy. The next screen that would appear would be the welcoming windows 8 / 8.1 log in screen. However, I get no signal / black screen. I tend to use Geforce Experience to install drivers.

I can boot in safe mode and picture is fine (as fine as it can be in safe mode). I uninstalled ALL nvidia drivers and ALL intel drivers manually and with DDU. I've also disabled windows auto updater so it doesn't try and install that stupid driver it likes by itself (which also causes people issues). Upon re-installation the screen goes black 1/9-ish the way through on the slow moving loading bar. I tend to use Geforce Experience to install drivers.

I'm really at a loss here. Any ideas?

Post the exact pw supply you have installed. 850W does not tell us much; corsair hx 850W or whatever tells us a LOT more.

Next since you can access the bios/uefi, post your temps and voltages; specifically the cpu temp, system temp, 12V, 5V, and 3.3V values.

I would really really invest in a monitor cable for troubleshooting. A dvi cable is all of $8 @the egg;

It would help for diagnosis of your problem.

Then I tried the next best thing (thinkingThat seller just lied and remembering seeing catalyst control center when the laptop actually worked) and installed AMD drivers which were said to be for this model also. (i have two graphic cards- Ati radeon 5470 and intel hd graphic card). but when i was reinstalling ati driver again my screen went black and i had to restart my laptop. so i went to safe mod and i had uninstall the ati driver and i could solve the black screen by using intel graphic card .then i saw in the device manager(under the display adapters) the STANDARD VGA GRAPHICS ADAPTER had a error(if you want please see the attachment), the device cannot start (code 10). so i think the problem is the standard vga graphic adapter, because ati drivers are installing on it . so can guys PLEASE help me to fix the error with the standard graphic adapter ?

things i have tried---------

installing latest version of ati driver
sfc/scannow

A:while i installing ati drivers my screen goes black

Hello unhapp sorry for the wait. Mate if you can run Speccy and post back the temp on that card. https://www.piriform.com/speccy

Next go to Start and type in "msinfo32" without quote marks and in the screen that opens open out as I have done in my machine - see pic and see what is in problem devices / components.

Note - I've seen topics talk about this problem, but there's a few things I don't quite get.

Hello,

earlier today I downloaded a tool from amd.com to update my drivers. I acquired the file through the autodetect page:
AMD Driver Autodetect

My computer is a fairly recent Hewlett Packard laptop with the model name "HP Pavilion dv7-6b15ed". Its OS is Windows 7 (64 bit).

To the point:
I started the update after getting the installer from the aforementioned file, and after just a little while, the entire screen became black. It's now been in this problematic state for over two hours. People I've spoken to have assured me the screen turning black is normal, but I doubt over two hours is what they had in mind.

Two important points I hope you can answer:

Should I wait before I perform a forced shutdown? Is there any possibility it'll recover by itself? The last time I did force a shutdown, I had to return my computer to an earlier state to get it back up and running and it hasn't run quite as sharply ever since.

Is there a way to prevent this problem from occurring with this program or is there a better alternative for getting one's drivers up to standards?

I'm afraid I'm not very technical at all, so I really need some help, preferrably soon. Any response would be appreciated.

A:Black Screen While Updating Drivers

press Ctrl+ALT+Del do can you start the Task Manager? If not a Hard Shutdown is all that is left.
The video driver conflicted with something else. It's best to manually download your Video driver from the HP site. HP drivers are more suited for this machine.

First things first, here's my computer (let me know if I let out anything important).

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
Mobo: Biostar H61MGc
CPU: Intel i3-2129
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6870
PSU: 550w Roswell Brand (I can find out the particular model if necessary, it just requires removing the PSU)

Also I don't overclock. I don't even really know what overclocking is.

I originally had Windows 7 when I first built the computer, and from day one, it had a fondness for crashing. When it crashed, the computer and all its peripherals would become unresponsive (except the power button), the lights on the mice and keyboard that were already on would stay on, but pressing the various "lock" keys would not change the the corresponding lights. From what I remember, the screen would generally show lines (vertical, equally spaced) but display did vary somewhat, and my headphones would make a noise (a singular, annoying noise).

Then someone who's house I worked at offered to fix it for me, assuming I was just having some sort of driver problems. They also offered to replace my Windows 7 with XP (which I agreed to). The problem was fixed and the person did mention that drivers were in fact the cause. Unfortunately I have lost the ability to contact this person.

Recently I realized I needed to "upgrade" my OS to run a program, and I also realized I had a gig of RAM not being used (the XP version used was 32bit), so I switched to 64bit Windows 7 Ultimate. Obvious... Read more

My Samsung Syncmaster 920nw monitor goes black when booting. At times, it will flash the initial motherboard screen for less than 1/2 second, and then may (or may not) briefly flash the Windows XP logo. It then stays black while my PC boots. Put another monitor on my pc and it works fine. Put the 920nw monitor on another computer and get the same black screen senario. That other computer works fine with a working monitor. So, it appears to be a 920nw monitor problem. Fixable, or not?

Thanks...

A:black screen monitor

You've already confirmed that monitor doesn't work with 2 different computers, so it's obvious the monitor is bad.

Considering how cheap they've gotten, buy a new monitor.

Even if that monitor was fixable, it would probably cost more to fix it than it's worth.

The model monitor you have sells for less than $100.00.

Ok, I have a Dell Dimension 2400 running XP. Several months back I installed an Nvidia graphics card which has been working fine. Yesterday I decided to remove the 128mb video card to put it in another computer. So i UNinstalled the Nvidia graphics card drivers, etc. I then shut down my computer and moved the monitor plug in to the onboard graphics slot.
When I booted up my system, it shows windows loading screen but when windows trys to load, I only get a black screen and can only hear the sound.
So i tried removing the Nvidia graphics card out of its slot and rebooted again to no avail. I made sure the BIOS settings read *onboard video* with no luck as well.
So I found my reinstallation driver disc that dell provided me with. I tried installing it by booting via my drive and it came up with the options to install. THe problem there is it keeps saying FAIL on the screen
Oh, and I tried the boot via SAFE MODE but I get errors coming up, here is a few examples:
MULTI(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\1_intl.nls
MULTI(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS\DRIVERS\ACPI.sys
MULTI(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS\DRIVERS\pciide.sys

It was completely my fault for being a dork and uninstalled the Nvidia software without switching this over first and testing it :O
So if anyone could possibly help me with this problem, please let me know. It's my business computer and it's just sitting there momentarily :K
Help anyone? I'll try to save you a cookie :O... Read more

I have an odd situation that has me stumped and I would appreciate any suggestions. Last night my computer was working fine. Went to bed, left it on like normal. Got up this morning and the CPU and monitor lights were both green and normal. But the monitor only showed a black screen.

I reseated the monitor but no change. Hubby plugged the monitor into his laptop and instead of a picture got the diagnostic screen saying monitor was working check signal.

Any suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks!

I had a new hard drive installed and I had to reinstall all of my drivers myself because the recovery cd didn't supply the information. Prior to changing the hard drive when my children would play online games they didn't have any problems. Now when ever they play any online games the monitor flickers on and off and then just stays black. If a game is loaded on my computer the screen works fine, this only happens with online games. I checked with my ISP company and there is no ping in my internet connection. I had my Norton configured by the company, I did a complete recovery on my system, reinstalled windows and updated all the drivers that would accept it. My video driver would not accept the 10/2007 update, but it took the 2005 one which is what I was running before the new hard drive. I also had a new fan installed, the one in front of the motherboard. I don't know how to check the temperature of the computer so I cannot give you that information. My monitor is a flat screen CRT 17 inch.

When you hit F8 you should see an Enable VGA Mode option further down on the list. You might try that and see if it works.

I hope someone can help me with a problem ai have with a Monitor. Until recently i had a PC with one Geforce 460 Gtx, on which I was running 2 Monitors. Both on DVI. One Benq 2450 as main Monitor and a HP 2229 as secondary. Was running fine. Now because of some other Hardware broke, i decided to get all new Hardware for the PC. The only remaining things were my Harddrives.

Now i have a Geforce 770 gtx from Zotac. After putting it all together and using the same Monitor situation, I noticed my main monitor to go black sometimes. Never the other. Because that Monitor, the Benq, had HDMI and my new graphics card as well, i tried attaching that one via HDMI. It worked for a bit, but it started again. The Monitor went black sometimes and just stayed that way. It only has a picture for a few seconds, if for example you restart the computer. For a few seconds it shows you the loadscreen of the Bios at the beginning when the monitor gets the first signal after starting the Computer. Same after loading and when the Windows logon Screen shows, but only for a few seconds, then it goes back to black. The other Monitor, the HP, works fine. On that I can only test DVI, not HDMI.

Is that problem now a Monitor problem or that of the graphics card? But if it would be a problem with the graphics card, why would it only happen with the Benq Monitor and not with the HP? Or is there a general problem with 2 graphics adapters on the Gtx 770 Series?

A:Black Screen on Monitor?

So the monitor is not affected until Windows loads? ie It doesn't blank out during POSTing ?

If so, it would be a driver issue rather than physical hardware.

I'd check out the nvidia forums to see if anyone else is having the similar issue. There may be an issue with the HDMI input and the 770 series.

Is it possible to connect both monitors via DVI?

Hello. Because of some invalid page faults and other such problems, I reformatted my hard drive last week. I reloaded Win 98 and all applications, drivers, etc. Everything seemed to be working fine until last night, when suddenly my screen went black. The power light on the monitor remained green. I was unable to do a reboot via the ctl-alt-del method, had to use the reset button to reboot. The system came back up, all was well, had the picture back, etc. I had been running my computer for about 7 hours at that time, so I'm thinking it might be a heat problem...? Today, the same thing happened after I'd been working on my computer for about 3 hours, except this time I could do the 3-fingered salute to reboot. I tried to delete a file while using Word 2000, and, bam, the screen went black again. The computer ran fine again after the reboot for about 4 more hours before the screen went black again.
From reading other posts in this forum, it looks as if power saving might be a problem too - except the power light on the monitor remains on. I turned off the power saving this evening, anyway, just in case. (I don't know what the settings were before I reformatted the drive; it was never an issue.) I'm at a loss.
My computer is a Dell PII 333 Mhz. My video card is a Diamond Viper 770 Ultra (TNT2.) The monitor is a Dell D1226H; it is correctly identified by Win 98. The monitor is about 2 1/2 years old.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Yesterday I had a problem where I turned my computer on and the monitor just said "No Signal" and would be black.

So I switched it from the motherboard spot to the video card slot.

I'm wondering if having it plugged into the video card will put extra stress on it and make it not run as good? And how come the other plug in doesn't work now?

Depending on your motherboard, some disable the onboard video if another card in recognized. Then some motherboards have the option of which video to use.

Is the monitor screen going black actually the computer dying?

test it next time by checking the keyboard lights, the Caps Lock light should go on or off with each press of the Caps lock key. If that is not happening, the computer has died, which is the cause of the black screen.

As we are not allowed to mind read, you might like to tell what the make/model is, what sort or RAM you fitted and what Windows version?

Did you reload all the drivers when fitting the new hard drive and reinstalling Windows?

is it only happening after a period of inactivity or does it go black while you are using it?

Hello all,
I recently re-installed win. xp on the dell insperation 2400. Everything went find except the resoluton wouldn't change from the 480 x ...so I tried to set up my dial up but I needed a higher resolution. I did finally find a way to get that although it was very poor quality and I figured that I'd be able to down load the proper driver once on line, which I did do, although I'm not sure it was the right one, as dell doesn't seem to have anything for that model of pc. Anyway I also downloaded the Microsoft updates to get back to current for the secruity stuff. When that was done it required restart, which I did. When it restarted the monitor remained blank after the win. xp part was done loading. I know its on and that my pc is sitting there running, but I can't see anything. I restarted using F5 and tried; last known good configuration, vga mode, and safe mode. In the 1st 2 no monitor. In safemode the whole screen filled with a dos like line repeated over again to fill the whole screen, then a message came on that said, "stop!!! fatal error and I can't remember what else. Can you help? I guess I should mention that I don't have the right driver disk that came with the pc.

Assuming you know the monitor to be working, then this is a classic misbuild, it's time to go back to the beginning and work thorugh the build, chances are you have missed something out, or your BIOS is misconfigured.

Check that you have everything seated correctly and that all plugs are secure, try removing all items from the Mobo such as network cards etc until you have a bare system, this means unplugging all IDE devices (these can cause a POST fail) once you are down to a barebones system try booting up,

I think there is a method of holding down the INSERT or DELETE key during the POST, this can force the BIOS to load defaults.

If this still doesn't work try replacing the memory/ changing the slot and trying again and also try replacing the video card of it still fails.

If it still dont work then it may be a faulty Mobo or CPU,

If it boots at any time then add the devices one at a time until you find what causes the boot fail.

Hello everyone!

I have a problem with my computer's monitor.
It's light is on and it seems to work but the screen stays black.
Sometimes, when I connect it, for some seconds I can get picture but the brightness is so low and the screen seems like flickering.

Changed three vga cables, tested on two laptops and my pc and still the same.
I also tried connecting the laptop with my flat screen with a hdmi cable and also on this monitor with a vga.
I chose to get picture on the tv and the monitor.Unexpectedly that worked and the screen stayed on but the problem with the brightness and the flickering wasn't fixed.

So I came to the conclusion that it's a hardware problem.
But I don't know what exactly causes the problem.
My monitor is ViewSonic VA1703wb.

Thanks for reading.
Any help appreciated!

We run off Viewsonic monitors at my work. They tend to have random problems. We have 22" monitor that was working fine, unplugged, moved to a different room and now it's tint is purplish and it won't go away. I'm pretty sure your problem is a hardware issue. If it's under warranty contact viewsonic and get it replaced.

Hey guys, I hope you can help me.

I just ran the latest update nForce drivers for my Motherboard and it prompted me to reboot my computer first as it needed to uninstall a component before it could reinstallit. Unfortunately (,) once rebooted and after the windows xp load screen, the screen remained black. (A strange quirk to this is that; if left for a while, it starts the default windows xp screensaver.)

I thought this was a driver issue and that loading up into Safe Mode, uninstalling the motherboard drivers and reinstalling them would fix it. However when booting into safe mode, my mouse and keyboard are both unresponsive on the windows sign in page. I have tried both USB, PS2 and Serial mice/keyboard combinations.

I tried to use the recovery console off the windows xp CD, but after attempting to boot from it, the computer hangs on 'Setup is Starting Window.' (This maybe an unrelated problem as I have had this before.) This means that I can't run System Restore or reformat the C: partition!

It would appear the motherboard drivers installation has screwed something pretty important.

Specs:
Windows XP SP3 (fully updated)
Intel E6600
4GB Corsair (2x2gb)
ASUS P5N-D

I hope you guys can help me get back into Windows!

Many thanks in advance

Hi, the first time I installed Windows 7 Professional (clean install, not upgrade) and installed the catalyst drivers for my HD5750 video card (http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=win7/windows-7-64bit), everything worked fine. I ended up formatting my hard drive and doing a reinstall though (had a major compatibility issue with Anti-Virus software and Microsoft Office, so decided to format the hard drive and did a reinstall). After doing that, and installing the Catalyst driver, I'm having the following problem:

The install goes fine, the computer restarts, but when it boots up and windows starts, I have a black screen and nothing displays. My monitors' indicators also change from blue to amber (as if there is no computer turned on or connected to them). I've started the computer in safe mode, and the monitors work. I can then uninstall the driver, but then I can't extend my desktop using the standard VGA driver, or get the full resolution of my monitors (1400x900). It's pissing me off!

I also put a much older trident card in and still got nothing. My moniter works with other computers, the graphics card works in a old win 98 computer i have lying around. I have no idea how to get a picture so i can try and fix the drivers...Any one have any idea?

Hello.
I'm helping my friend with his laptop.
I'm currently trying to install graphic drivers.

The laptop is an ASUS A52J. There's a sticker saying there's an Radeon HD 6370M inside.
I went to Radeon's website and downloaded the latest drivers. When I install them the driver asks me to reboot. After rebooting the screen turns black after the "Starting Windows" screen (just before the login screen.) I hear the sound of being logged in, but I can't see anything.
I am forced to restart Windows in failsafe mode to see anything - then I can uninstall the drivers and run on the "default drivers" that Windows install.

Anyone know how to fix this problem?

A:Screen goes black after installing graphic drivers

presumably, you downloaded the 15.7 driver..?

it should run ok..
- did you run the installation as administrator?
- also, did you opt for the (full) express install?

Alright, so I recently installed an update for my graphics card driver and I restarted my computer afterwards. When it restarted it went through the blue HP screen and then it immediately went to a black screen with a flashing " _ " So I restarted it again. Upon it rebooting I see the blue bios menu which has Esc: Boot Menu, F10: Setup, F11:System Restore and F9: Diagnostics, all as options for things I can do. Neither the boot menu nor the system restore options work, the setup menu doesn't help me at all and the diagnostics says that everything is working fine. I can't get into safe mode using the f8 key because the windows start-up menu doesn't even appear. It goes bios menu and straight to black screen. Tapping f8 from the start of turning my computer on does nothing as well. Also, I don't have or know where my windows disks are...Obviously I can't use msconfig to start in safe mode because windows wont boot and I can't seem to find anyone that has the same problem. Most can at least get to the safe mode menu, I can't even get there. What i have tried that doesn't work:F8 KeyF5 key(to try to open the OS menu)F10: Opens setup menu, that menu doesn't helpF11: System restore wont open and it just goes to the black screenF9: Diagnostics, everything checks out and it says there's no problemsEsc: Boot menu, doesn't open, straight to black screenAs previously stated I also have no idea where my windows disks are...I can look around for them but if there is any alternat... A:Black Screen error after updating drivers.

hi,,,, download this and burn to disc,,,, will the pc boot from disc drive??? if so shove the disc in and do a startup repair,,,http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vist...-disc-download/as you say this issue came about after a driver update for the gpu then i would also think about removing the graphics card and see if it will boot to on-board gfx,,,,, was there issues with the previous drivers for the gpu or was it just because they were there,,, i always go by the adage "if it aint broke, don't fix it" where hardware drivers are concerned good luck.

I have a new i5 system with a fresh install of Windows 10x64 and a good old AMD 7870 graphics card. I have been using AMD Crimson drivers 16.3.2 for Win10x64. No overclocking. The system has worked flawlessly the last six weeks. A couple of days ago I had my first crash, when the PC locked up loading a game.

I rebooted the PC and the BIOS came up fine. It started loading Windows, then came a black screen just before login, no cursor, no light, like there was no signal to the monitor.

Same problem upon successive reboots.

But the PC would reboot into safe mode fine. After some Googling, I began suspecting the AMD video drivers.

So I used Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) in safe mode to remove all the AMD video drivers. Windows 10 then booted to the desktop and works great, but only with basic Microsoft video drivers.

Whenever I try installing the AMD video card drivers, I get the same black screen lockup (no signal?), just at the point the new driver is taking over. After that, I cannot boot into Windows again, without first going into safe mode, and then using DDU to clean up. Then it will boot to Windows.

I have tried installing Crimson 16.3.2, 16.4.1, 15.12 and Catalyst 15.7.1 drivers for Win10x64, all with the black screen at the later stage of the attempted install.

Does anyone have an idea of what I could try next? I don't have a similar graphics card I could test to rule out the hardware.

the monitor keeps flashing with a black screen, with intervals of about 5 s - 5 min. the pc has been working fine for several years, although it is a bit slow recently. it is mostly used for internet/emails.

-in windows safe mode, the same flashing occurs.
-there were some virus/malware, detected with avast/mbam. they have been removed, but monitor still keeps flashing
-when the monitor was connected to a laptop, there was no flashing at all, it run fine for some hours. so problem seems not the be the monitor?

i dont know much about the pc info:
*pc is about 3 years old.
*integrated intel motherboard/videocard
*win xp 3

Hello-

I have a Gateway Model #5310 hard drive, with an Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family graphics card, operating system Windows XP Home Edition.

Awhile back I bought a new 23 inch Dell model #ST2310 HD monitor, and for awhile it worked fine, but now when I startup the screen goes black after my desktop loads. I know the desktop is back there b/c all the pop ups show, the cursor shows and even the screen saver shows after a bit. I can get in and see everything in safe mode with networking where I have downloaded the latest VGA driver from the gateway site. Is it possible I need a new graphics card for this hard drive b/c its not compatible with the monitor? I am stumped.

I appreciate any help someone could provide me.

A:New Monitor-Black screen after splash

Welcome to TSG, Christy. If you can see your cursor and screen saver, just not your desktop, then the issue is probably not with the monitor or your video drivers.

If you can see everything in safemode, go to the device manager and uninstall your video card, then reboot and let it load to windows normally. Windows will automaticly reinstall the driver and reset the Resolution and refresh rate. If you are still unable to see the desktop, then try bringing up the task manager by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete, then click File > New task and type Explorer.exe.

this morning i was on my desktop working fine before we had a power cut in our flat which shut off all the eletric socket points. My pc was switched off immediately.

I managed to switch on the main power suppy in our flat. then electricity was back on again. switched on the pc, running okay, i could even hear the windows starting up from my speaker. but my monitor (Dell 1800 FP, 19 inch flat screen, 5 years old) went completly black out. tried to switch on the indicator light, it wouldn't turn on (normally it's green when on). tried other buttons (brightness etc), still no light. It's as if it's been switched off.

spoken to a few friends who suggested me to see whether the fuse's been blown. tested fuse on a reader, absolutely fine. tested the power cable on other applicance and it's working fine.

Also tried to disconnect monitor from pc leaving only the power cable connected to monitor, still the same - does this mean that it's not the power suppy, but the monitor itself? Is the problem repairable?

I'm aware that during the last couple of weeks the monitor screen blinked once in a while (say twice during the day, just randomly but very subtle)....

help..

A:flat screen monitor black out! HELP

The LCD monitor itself has a power supply (or 2) built in to handle the lighting of the screen. Sometimes the power supply and/or fuses are fine, but the capacitors are blown or leaking.

Does the monitor work when the system first boots up (before it goes into Windows)?
Does the monitor work in Safe Mode (rapidly tap F8 just before the Windows splash screen shows up)?

If it doesn't work in either, take it in to the shop for warranty repair.
Check to make sure both video cards are properly seated and that any connecting cables are in place.

okay, When I put my computer on today all I got after the XP splash was a black screen, I cannot boot up in safemode, because of my keyboard, it just refuses to work on the startup.

I dont think anything is wrong with my graphics card, video card, etc etc, because I have a second hardrive, and when I put it in it loads up perfectly, I have tried looking at my files from my other hardrive, they are all just either notepad documents or they are just white boxes with cogs in them.
I have also tried using my XP disk, but it wont load, I have even put the computer to boot up on the disk and this makes no difference.

also I have read that you need a certain keyboard to be able to get on safemode, its the keyboard that hasnt got the USB end to it, I have one but it still Just doesnt work.

im guessin the only replies I can possiable get are to reformat my hardrive or to get it wiped.

thanx for your help guys

I am running a brand new alienware computer (win7 64 ult) with the new 23" LCD that it came with. It has an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580. (2 DVI outputs) with the most recent NVIDIA drivers
When I connect an old CRT using the DVI-VGA adapter as a second monitor everything works fine.

When I connect my old 17" LCD using the same DVI-VGA adapter, however, BOTH screens go black!!!!! the old 17" LCD says "OVERSIZE RECOMMAND 1280x1024"
(btw, it really is "recommand", not "recommend")

When I disconnect the old 17" LCD, after ~20 sec the new 23" LCD comes back on, and says (sometimes) that the display recovered from a crash.

(In the past, when installing windows on a different computer using the old 17" LCD, i have had to plug in a CRT and change the resolution/refresh rate, then switch back to the LCD)

I have tried doing a clean installation of the drivers. I tried lowering the resolution/refresh rate before plugging it in.

Is there anyway to set the default output resolution when you connect a new monitor? Why would it cause my other monitor to shut off?

hello, this is ecobill. i am new in the neighborhood. I know a little about computers (enough to be dangerous); so, I need help once in while. Whenever I have trouble it is never the normal problems.
Because I lost the printer drivers and USB drivers on my present computer when I updated to XP Service pack 2 and I have been able to install them from any locaton.

I have received a used, but more updated computer. I was told it worked, but there was no rack for the hard drives that matched the screw holes. I adapted an old rack and when I turn on the power with the monitor attached, there is nothing but a black screen. The power supply appears Ok, because some of the lights come on; the hard drive is running; and the fans come on the motherboard and video card. The monitor is OK because I used it on another older computer. Also when I just unplug the monitor from the video card, the screen comes on. I tried another older video card in one of the shorter card slots, but it did work either.
Any ideas out there? Thanks

A:Monitor Screen stays black

Monitor stays black

I don't know how to reset the cmos unless you mean to pull the battery. I don't know about the BIOS bus for the video (I can't see any BIOS) settings. I removed the original AGP video card that I thought might be a problem and I put an older working video card (Trident) in another PCI slot and this made no difference. I pulled the RAM chips to clean the connections and reset all cables. I disconnected the CD drive, the floppy drive, and later the hard drive after checking each situation indiviudally, but this made no difference.

Another problem (may be related) is the on-off switch does not control anything. I have to use the toggle switch in the back. I checked the wire connection from the switch to the motherboard (Intel D845BG) and it looked OK.
Thanks

Hi..I have a Gateway GT4022 desktop. It has been working fine until now. Recently for some reason, about 1 minute after startup the computer freezes, then the monitor goes black, but the pc is still running. I have tried restarting my computer by holding the power button since I had no other way to do so, but the same thing happens. Sometimes it turns black and says FREQUENCY OUT OF RANGE. I did not add anything new to it, like video card or anything. I was just surfing the web and I was't playing a game either. I was wondering if anyone can help me solve this problem without losing any data on my computer. Thank you very much...

A:Monitor screen goes black after startup

Try starting the pc in safe mode (F8 during startup) and going to control panel/display properties and decreasing the resolution to 800x600.. restart the pc.. if that works you can up the res to back where it was originally.. also (while in safe mode) check that the refresh rate is on 60hz.

Hi,

I have an HP G60-121WM Laptop computer and I was wondering if anyone had any help regarding a laptop that all of a sudden the monitor is black. The laptop seems to power on but the laptop is bad. I've tried taking the battery out and unplugging the charging cord, then holding the power button for about 30 seconds and then plugging it back up and powering it back on and that has not helped. I've also tried hooking it up to another monitor, but it has the black screen on the other monitor as well. Finally I've also taken the ram sticks out and switched them up to see if there was anything with those that could be causing the problem and it didn't seem to work either.

The problem was I wasn't down-loading updates of Windows Vista regularly and this was causing the black-outs.

I would like to hear from any one else that has been in this situation, and if i have been able to help some one else that has had this problem.

Hello there, what's the motherboard?

Make sure everything is plugged in properly - and all the screws that's holding the motherboard down has something between it (I forget what those are called), because if not - it could short out the motherboard.
