Display Link USB Monitor drivers for Windows 8

Q: Display Link USB Monitor drivers for Windows 8

If you're like me, you're probably using a small USB extension monitor that uses DisplayLink drivers. As of now, there are no completely bug-free DisplayLink drivers for Windows 8.
However, there is a preview driver that seems to be working just fine.

Download the second preview driver HERE.

Watch the DisplayLink forum for updated drivers HERE.

I have an ASUS MB168B USB 3 monitor, works fine in Windows 8.1 with the ASUS EZlink software. After upgrading to Windows 10 10122 x64 I got Visual C++ debug errors and had to un install it. When I plugged my monitor in for the first time Displaylink was downloaded and installed automatically. Monitor won't work though. Windows 10 sets its resolution to 1024 x 768 and won't let me change it. If I try to set it to 1366 x768 I get a Settings could not be saved try a different resolution message. It doesn't matter what resolution I chose, I get the same message. This monitor will not display if not set to 1366 x768, all I get is a black screen. I uninstalled display link and installed the V7.8 Beta 1 for Windows 10 from their site but same deal. If nobody has any ideas I'll be going back to Windows 8.1.

A:Display and Monitor Drivers PROBLEM!!

I'm assuming that's an AGP card? I'll set you up with how to install the latest 9.10 beta. I'm almost sure I can get your card to work with this under 7. All you need to do is go to device manager, right click card and choose properties, go to details tab, change the property drop down to say hardware ids. There should be shown a few lines.

What is the exact 4 digit number next to dev_ in any of them? I'll make you an .inf. In the meantime, download this driver and run it to extract to c:\ati. When the installer is done extracting, then close it...which is before it start actually installing. Then I'll have further instructions later.

I have a compaq running windows xp with service pack 3. The video card in question is an Nvidia GeForce 4 MX 440. I have not had very much fun with this card, but have usually been able to make it do what I want.

It now only displays 4 bit colours at 800x600 resolution. Usually restarting the computer or reinstalling the drivers fixes this. Now nothing will fix it. I have let windows pick the drivers, and gone to Nvidia and used their drivers. Both worked fine before. Now I don't have the desktop tray thing that lets me modify resolution and colour anymore, and I don't have ane other options to display other resolutions or colours in the windows display settings either.

If I remove the drivers or start my computer in safe mode, the colours look beautiful and I regain the ability to change the colours. As soon as I install the drivers again, the colours don't work anymore.

What I was doing before this problem occurred, was trying to get the s-video port on the back to display in colour on an older TV with an s-video to RCA (Component?). The cable worked fine on other TVs with this computer, and fine on other computers with the TV in question. Just not from my MX 440 to the TV in question. I had found some solutions to this problem which involved switching the outpute type from s-video to composite. I then installed and reinstalled the driver many many many times (and installed the one windows picked) and managed to change that setting. It didn't work.... Read more

A:Monitor can only display at 4 bit (lowest) with drivers

It sounds as if reinstalling the driver many times may have caused registry problems, and/or the driver you
last installed is incompatible or has issues with your configuration. It's definitely a driver problem though.

Did you install the driver below?
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_93.71_2.html

Go into device manager and see if there are any yellow exclamation marks next to the hardware.

(worse case scenario; if you have an XP installation disk, you can perform a Windows "repair install.")

I recently updated my drivers for my nvidia graphics card. After rebboting the machine i found that i could no longer see a display on my monitor.

Is there any way in which i could revert back to the old drivers without being able to see anything on the screen?

any information would be apreciated

A:No Monitor Display After Updating Nvidia drivers

Hey,

You should be able to boot and POST atleast, is this the case? If this is the case, go into safe mode and go to device manager using the below method - once here, search for the drivers for your card and right click, properties, uninstall (or rollback, which will change them to your last most recent drivers for your card).

Start > Run > devmgmt.msc

Ok, first off, I'm new here so hi everyone. Seems like a great forum for technical help and discussion, and looks pretty

I've googled, and searched this forum for a fix to my problem but haven't found one so far, so hopfully you guys can help.

A few months ago I got a second hand monitor from a friend, to replace my CRT because I was getting headaches when working. It was cheap (?10) because it's fairly outdated and had a dead pixel, but it was worth it to get rid of the headaches. At the time I was running Vista x86 and I plugged the monitor in and its maximum selectable resolution was only 1024x768, rather than the 1280x1024 that it was meant to be. I couldn't find a fix for this, but managed to work around this by updating the drivers and selecting the "Generic 1280x1024 Flat Screen" in the list of drivers in Vista. This brought the correct resolutions to the list and the issue was solved.

I then had the same issue in Windows XP (x86) and used the same work around, which again fixed the issues. However last week I done an upgrade and purchased Vista x64 and am having the same issue once again. But this time, selecting the drivers in the list does not update the resolutions I can select and I am stuck with 1024x768, which isn't a good enough resolution for the 3D Modeling and Texture working I am trying to do. Deselecting the tick box "Hide modes this monitor cannot display" simply updates the refresh rate box, but not the resolution box oddl... Read more

So, I got a new video card at work to install and nothing will show up when I plug it in. I can go through the computers VGA and it works fine, but when I go to the video card only a black screen. Any help? Can't download drivers either, only black screen upon boot.

A:Display Drivers/Video Card and Monitor Screen

Hi,

Have you tried removing the graphics card and using the on board VGA to boot into windows, you could then install the required drivers.

Then shutdown the PC >> Insert new graphics card and see how that goes??

There's a lot to this story so I'll try to condense it as much as I can. A few days ago I was watching Netflix and my monitor suddenly went blank. I could still hear the show, so I unplugged and replugged the cords until it finally came on. This happened about 3 more times that day. The next day I turned on my computer and the monitor didn't come on. I did the same thing and it finally came on. It would go off randomly throughout the day just like before. Now we get to today and the same thing happened l, except today I couldn't load any of the games I play. I tried to launch over watch and it told me my video card wasn't compatible. I tried to launch counter strike global offensive and it forced me to have the lowest settings possible. So I decided to update my drivers. I had been putting this off for some time just because everything seemed fine. When the driver update would ask for permission from my computer my monitor would go blank and I would have to unplug and replug like before. If I tried to open task manager the monitor would go blank. A lot of the times when the monitor would go blank, icons would be moved around on my desktop and the programs already open,  such as steam and battle net, would shrink. So anyways I was able to update my drivers and so I tried to open up over watch. Again nothing changed and my driver software says I still need to update. So I was browsing the Internet and someone had a detailed explanation on how to co... Read more

I am running Win7 64-bit and think the problem may be itisn't windows compatable.

A:are there any d-link windows 7 drivers available?

In device manager, right click on the the device in network adapter section, update driver software. Browse. Let me pick. Have disk. Browse. Find the .inf that is part of the install driver package. Double click on it. Hit ok.

You might have to extract from the install .exe first.

Otherwise, doesn't seem there is a 510 model. Are you sure you have that correct? http://www.dlink.com/search/?qry=dwa-510

Here is what I have.

My HD crashed a few months back. I replaced the HD and installed XP with the recovery disks I made because HP was too cheap to send them with the custom ordered PC I bought from them. Everything was fine after the re-install until I decided to install SP2 since it was a clean install. After installing SP2 and rebooting, the PC went crazy (imagine that) and crashed again. I wasn't smart enough to write down the stop codes, but what I got was IRQL_EQUAL-NOT, or something like that. I gave up for the time being and used another PC we had at the house. When I finally decided to try and re-install the recovery disks, my monitor would display nothing. I tried a different monitor and got the same thing. I didn't even get a "no signal" showing on the monitor. From what I was hearing as the PC tried to boot, all was fine except the monitor output.
Any ideas of where to go to from here? Could I have a MB issue? Or is it a video card issue? If it is a video card issue, how can I check it since I get no display? If a MB issue, how can I check the MB?

A:Windows XP - no monitor display

This is a hardware issue so I moved you thread for more possible responses. Do you get any beep codes when you power up the PC and do you hear the Windows logo when the PC boots? If you hear no thing the problem may be the PC's memory. Try taking it out and re-seating or swap them around or remove one if you can.

Hi guys ,
I am not professional in IT, but I can manage myself by following each step that you will recommend me to do to get this driver installed on my laptop.

My laptop is HP Pavilion G6 1250ee , I used to have windows 7 home premium 64 bit on it , but I installed windows vista ultimate 64 bit service pack 1 , which I will use it for a while and wont update it to service pack 2 in this period .
When I installed vista, I had three problems with three drivers ; Standard VGA graphics adapter driver, BCM20702A0 driver and AMD Radeon HD 6470M driver.
I tried to install the windows 7 drivers on my laptop that are on HP website, but it didn’t work properly and I didn’t get any result from that . Then I start searching online through Google, but I couldn’t find what I want. Then someone recommended to me to get DriverMax software , which gave me a good result for solving the problem of BCM20702A0 driver by finding (Broadcom 20702 Bluetooth 4.0 Adapter version 12.0.0.0050) , but it couldn’t get me the AMD Radeon HD 6470M driver, but it got me another driver call AMD Radeon HD 6400M serious version 8.982.0.0000 that I could install on my Laptop so the Standard VGA graphics adapter problem ended by replacing it with this new driver, but after I restart the laptop for couple of times it give me error code 43 . This is the only driver that I could find by this software, after searching online for AMD Radeon HD 6470M driver that work on windows vista for almost... Read more

Hi there, new to these forums as I have run into a recent problem with my display drivers. To start I am running:

Dell XPS L502X Laptop
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2630QM
8 GB RAM
Intel HD Graphics
Nvidia GeForce GT 525M (Currently on 265.94)

I recently reformatted Windows 7 and now when I try to update either my Intel or Nvidia card, they both fail. The Intel update will most often say that my computer is not compatible, or that it simply fails. On the nvidia update I get the classic "Nvidia Installer failed" after trying both Express, Custom, and clean installs. In my first attempt at this I uninstalled my drivers and then tried installing, even in safe mode, and I could never get it to work. I did another install of windows in another attempt to restart the process but still no solution worked. I have browsed forums for about a day or two now and still have not found a viable option. The games I play do not open and usually crash after their first loading screen, however after I uninstalled the Nvidia drivers I was able to open the games at a low performance on the intel card, which leads me to think this Nvidia bug is the problem.

It is probably important to note that this was the first time I had reformatted since the laptop was purchased about a year ago, and that I also did it in a different format that I wasn't even really sure about doing. Rather than using the Windows install disc that came with the laptop (it is of c... Read more

I have a computer running windows 98.
It is a Dell Dimension XPS T450.
I put a new hard drive in it because the old one was dead.
It has a pentium III.

My issues are probably all connected. I think I mainly need to reinstall a bunch of drivers for all the things that aren't working, but I'm not sure.

So here are my issues:

>>All my PCI devices aren't installed properly. In the device manager there are question marks on all the PCI hardware. most importantly the ethernet adapter.

>>The internet doesn't work I've tried manually putting in the IP address/gateways etc. my first problem is probably the cause of this one as well.

>>my only display resolution is 640x480. which sucks. the monitor shows up in the device manager as being properly installed and what not, but i'm unable to connect to the internet to download a new driver.

So the question is....can i get drivers for my devices without being able to connect to the internet?

is that really the problem or did i balls something up because i've never really done this before.

This computer is a secondary computer, but i've been working on it for a while now and would like to get it fully up and running, so any help would be appriciated. thanks.

The problem is you dont have any drivers installed. starting with your motherboard drivers. all the drivers you should need would be on the Dell resource disk that came with your computer.

Hi I got this problem when changing monitors on my Pc a while ago.
I have now got my PC and have tried it on 3 different monitors and get the same outcome.
The initial BIOS and DOS boot displays come up, along with the Windows XP Loading screen, but as soon as windows kicks in and the display settings change, my monitor or any other I have tried just stays black.
Windows itself boots, as I can hear the login sound through the speakers!
I have tried going into safe mode to play about with the setting of my display card but it wont even let me into safe mode!

Is this something to do with the refresh rate setting?

Appreciate any help towards fixing this matter

Hello Dear people of intelligence!

I have an acer laptop, with xp pro installed.
Graphics, videos, display, all working fine but vlc alerted me to my display adapter drivers having a yellow question mark.
this is because occasionally videos are all spotty in vlc which they advised could be the above problem.

I clicked to see the properties, a file may have been missing it said. I clicked to uninstall and it said it couldn't because it was needed for start up or something. I thought fine, more research needed.
Now i see that though i haven't rebooted and it is only a few moments later, the adapter drivers have disappeared and i cannot figure out how to update/fix/find them!!!

so i swotted a bit more online and found out my graphics card is vgl or vga? i don't know how i found that but i've lost that info now, i downloaded cpu z and clicked a few buttons...it gave me this -

http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2365272

i found that i had gl960 adapter things? tried to find manufacturers upgrades and stuff but that is where my search ran dry because i no longer knew what i was doing. As you can tell I do not know what i am talking about.

Can you help me find my adapter drivers and make them happy? Thankyou very very much for your spare time and I'm happy to return some advise favour or something - i know lots about photoshop, relationships, curtains and women. lol

I use a seperate monitor to use it though because Its easier being that I usually don't take my laptop wherever I go and I have this set to display only on Monitor two which is the seperate monitor. I have the bottom in Screen resolutions to display monitor onl display TWO so that It does not display on main laptop's display. However, when I boot my computer up it boots up on display one and only when its booted up goes to display two. I really really really need help to fix this. That do I do? Thank you very much, and God bless.

I do not think you can, as I have a lap top as well and I do not see anywhere in the BIOS to select display out 2 for default boot up.

Hello.

I installed a NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX\MX 400 card yesterday. After installation I could not see my task bar/start menu. Could not access display properties. Any ideas on how to get these functions back? I've uninstalled/reinstalled hardware and drivers. much appreciated.

A:Windows could not load the installer for display monitor

Welcome to TSF.

So even after removing the drivers and restarting, the taskbar is still not back? Or could you restart at all since the taskbar is gone? Try removing it in Safe Mode and see if the taskbar comes back on.

If it's still missing, go to Start->Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit OK. See if it finds any missing files.

I have three PC's all running the same OS setup but one no matter what I try after 2 minutes the display goes blank, move the mouse and the desktop is there!
I found in link but for Windows 7 there is a term called "System unattended sleep timeout" added to Advanced Power Settings" but cant find anything in Win 10.

This is the link for Sleep Timeout : Power Options - Add "System unattended sleep timeout"
Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can try please?

A:Windows 10 64 Bit Monitor display turns off after 2 minutes!

Turn off all the timeout settings, then if the problem is still there, start working on the monitor. You should not have this problem.

Windows 10 update keeps deleting NVIDIA display drivers - how to prevent ?

After each Windows 10 update:
1) get the message "your display drivers have been updated, restart"
2) after restart only one display is showing content - the other one is blank
3) have poor, miserable relolution
4) install NVIDIA display drivers
5) restart
6) re-organize my desktop in two monitors
7) too often Windows 10 interrups NVIDIA display driver installation
8) sometimes Windows 10 does allow NVIDIA install program to continue
9) each time spend 3-4 hours extra time to get back with the working system

Notes:
a) I will NEVER want MS display drivers because I have the ones from NVIDIA designed by NVIDIA
b) trying to deny display driver update by Windows 10 has no effect
c) saving the working system and recovering ti does not help because MS does not include device drivers
to be part of working system
d) new update in correct and guaranteed to embed MS trial to force user to use MS drivers instead of NVIDIA

Is there any WORKING methods to have NVIDIA display drivers serving two monitors ?

A:NVIDIA display drivers deleted by Windows 10 update - how to prevent

The drivers that Windows 10 install are Nvidia drivers....they just aren't the absolute latest, since Nvidia updates often. On my tower, I don't see the same issues as you, but my solution is to run the Nvidia GeForce Experience tool. It will alert you to new driver versions and download them for you. There's no need or reason to spend hours arranging a desktop. If Windows Update is installing drivers, it means it found something newer than you had originally.

Ok so I've been determined to try and troubleshoot this one myself for the past week and it has gotten me nowhere so far. Let me bring everybody up to speed on what has happened. I have a DV9535nr HP Pavillion, specs are in signature, that has an Nvidia 8600M GS display adapter that has stopped working recently and I cant seem to keep it when I shut the laptop off. The other day I opened the laptop lid and it said "Resuming Windows" like normal, and then bamm, everything went to VGAsave on the screen. 640x480 4 bit colors, etc. Just crappy. Naturally I turned it off went to F8 on startup and Last Known Good Config. Booted up ok I figured everything was fine. And I had been getting the all too nortorious screen flicker and blank for about 12 seconds then "display adapter has stopped responding and has recovered" message since day one. But this time the screen went black and the laptop just hanged. So I had to turn it off and back to the 4 bit color crap. SO... read through a bazillion forums on laptopvideo2go.com got a lot of good ideas but none of them have really stuck thus far. Did the whole Driver Cleaner deal with safe mode to remove step-by-step any trace of the drivers. And re-installed them, rebooted. Initially this method worked fine. But when I got to any sort of screen flicker deal...back to square one, and I'd have to do the process all over again. We'll like 3 days ago this stopped working all together. Tried registy cleaner, CCl... Read more

I'm running fully updated W530 with Windows 10 Anniversary update; I have the latest graphics drivers for the W530 from Lenovo installed and have my BIOS set to use Nvidia Optimus.   When I plug a monitor into the VGA port it doesn't work and I get the following pop-up message from Windows: 'Display driver failed to start; using Microsoft Basic Display Driver instead. Check windows update for a new display driver. ' After this message there is only 1 monitor shown in the windows display settings.   I then updated the Nvidia display driver using device manager and rebooted, but this problem still remains.  I've tried changing the BIOS to use only the dedicated Nvidia GPU, but this doesn't work either.  I tried installing Nvidia drivers for this card from their website, but the install crashes my computer to a black screen and forced me to do a hard reset into safe mode so I could re-install the Lenovo driver package.   What do I need to do to get my external VGA monitor working in Windows 10?

I'm helping someone fix a Lenovo 3000 C200 laptop that has a 1124x768 screen. The image on the screen stretches past the right edge of the screen by maybe 2 inches and past the bottom edge by about 1/2 inch. I checked the resolution and it's set at 1124x768. However, I checked the hardware settings on the monitor and Windows reports it as a 1280x800 screen, which explains why the image appears stretched off the edge. Windows is trying to stretch the image to fill pixels that don't exist. Is there a way to force Windows to recognize the screen as the correct resolution, or is this a hardware problem?

I was running Windows 7 and everything worked well, I could extent and duplicate monitors.  I use my laptop monitor as monitor #1 and my VGA port with an external VGA Monitor as Monitor #2 and I always extend my monitor. After the upgrade to Windows 10 I get a duplication of Screen #1 on both monitors. I watched numourous videos that show how to extent the monitor but I never get the ability to choose the monitors.  I only get one option, Monitor #1.  Seems like my VGA port is just duplicating everything my laptop screen is projecting. I diverted back to Windows 7 because this option is really important to my work and it works flawlessly.  Going back to Windows 10 and it just still shows the duplication of the laptop screen.

Hello,
I am running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on a Dell Precision M6800 laptop, graphics card is Nvidia Quadro K3100M. I have a 3-monitor setup: one monitor being the laptop LCD, and the other two being Dell U2414h. My laptop is on the far right. I've had these in extended mode with a Display Port 1.2 daisy chain setup for about 1.5 years. Due to the massive headache of the DP1.2 daisy chain setup not being reliable with these monitors (tons of forums on this subject), I recently bought an HDMI 2.0 cable so I could run one U2414h off of the DP1.2 port on my laptop and the other U2414h off the HDMI port on my laptop. When all three monitors are turned on, I like my main display to be the monitor on the far left. With the previous daisy chain setup, my main display would shift from left to right as my monitors were turned off (left to right). With this current setup (one via DP1.2, the other via HDMI), my main display will not shift to my middle monitor when the left one is turned off, so when I turn my left monitor off, I lose my task bar and all icons (they don't shift to another monitor). Is anyone else using a similar setup where they've had this issue, and was there a resolve?

Thanks in advance!

A:Windows 7 no changing main display when monitor is turned off

Hi Mike Moren, welcome to the Forum.

As you are using separate inputs to the monitors, one being HDMI & the other the DP1.2 port, you will not get automatic shifting of the main Desktop screen when you turn one of the monitors off, like you were before.

You can use the Windows key/P key to switch between monitors. You are using the extended screen set up at present, so only one screen has the full desktop showing. Using the Windows/P keys you can have all screens as duplicate also if you wish. Try it out & see for yourself.

If you right click on your main desktop & select Screen Resolution there are some options to select from as well.

Hi All,
I have an Evision Monitor and I finally have turned off the 'hotkeys' for it, because I believe I'm hitting a combination of keys which makes the monitor display do wacky things i.e. rotate completely around so the display is upside down. I was able to rectify most issues I've run into, except this mornings. I have both my laptop and Envision displaying, except the laptop display is displaying larger so that 1/4 of the display cannot be viewed, if I don't move my cursor. When I use my cursor the Envision display is fine, but the laptop display moves with the cursor. I am not sure if what I am trying to relay to this forum makes sense , hopefully it does. I've gone through the whole Pivotal properties etc. trying out different ones, and can't seem to get the laptop displaying correctly. Your assistance in rectifying this issue would be greatly appreciated!

Ive got a new computer, and I'm using my Hitatchi 19LD3750DU TV as the computer monitor. I've noticed that down the left hand side is a back bar where the display doesnt reach the edge of the monitor, and also the entire display is slightly stretched vertically. Its like the whole display has been compressed slightly from the left. Since I work with photos and drawings on here, this isnt good.
Ive gone into display settings and its only options are set display options, currently at 1360 x 768, the reccomended option. Trying to change the display on the monitor just makes it auto adjust back to this setting. What I really need is some way to "stretch screen to fit monitor" option, but I cant find anything like this in the system. What can I do?

I uninstalled the update and have tried autodetect on the system all to no avail. Help!!

KChristians, welcome to the Seven Forums.

Sounds like you have WU set to automatically download and install updates, and it updated either the video or monitor driver. If that is what happened check your update history and you can uninstall it from there and should get you back to the previous drive.

Also if that s what it was you might want to set WU to not download and install drivers automatically, step #4 here,

Hello, I'm new to these forums, but I hope that you can help me with my issue.

I recently got a second monitor and have been trying to get the two monitors to work in "extend" mode, where you drag the mouse off of one side to get to the other monitor.

The two monitors are a Viewsonic VA2037a-LED, and an AOC e2051Sn.

My graphics card is an AMD Radeon R7 200 series.

My current setup is as follows: I have a VGA Y-splitter connected to the Graphics card VGA port. Attached on the Y-end of the Y-splitter are the two monitors. It looks like this:

------------------

Here is my issue, and it's a bit complicated. Basically, Windows only recognizes this as *one* monitor. Both monitors work fine -- they act like they're mirrored right now. But that's because Windows only recognizes this as *one* monitor, rather than *two*. Hitting Detect does nothing, and hitting Identify shows the big "1" on both monitors.

It gets more interesting though. In the device manager, I can only find ONE monitor "installed", a "Generic Non-PnP Monitor". Looking at the driver location (C:/Windows/System32/monitor.sys), it's likely that Windows is just throwing the default monitor driver it has at anything that comes through the VGA port.

In trying to fix the problem, I came to, of course, reinstalling drivers. First, I reinstalled my GPU driver. Next, I began to try to install the ViewSonic driver from the CD it came with (the Viewsonic is the new dri... Read more

A:Windows monitor drivers can't install correctly

This is normal. Just connecting a y-splitter cable to a single port isn't going to be enough. Each monitor needs a dedicated output port to have an independent display. In some cases a video card will have a specialized single port that can drive two independent displays with a specialized cable, but it doesn't sound like yours is one of those.

Also, there are no drivers for monitors, and what most people think of as drivers are just color profiles. So you're wasting your time on that one. PC to monitor communication is one-way, meaning there's no need for a driver. The only real exceptions might be if a monitor has a built-in webcam or some such.

What you need to do is dump the y-splitter and connect each monitor via its own port on the video card. With LCD monitors, DVI, HDMI or DisplayPort is by far preferable to VGA. The only way a y-splitter would work is if you're using the one provided along with the video card designed specifically for that kind of function. Just attaching a y-splitter on a normal VGA port will get you exactly what you describe. I will also save you some time, trouble and probably expense by telling you that you shouldn't bother trying any DVI to VGA adapters or something similar. You can't convert a digital signal to analog just by rerouting some pins in an adapter.

Brand new custom build, just did fresh install of winxppro SP1. Every time the computer boots up the monitor driver reinstalls I do nothing. It detects new monitor drivers and installs them automatically. Not really a problem other than the annoyance.

I had some other drivers that did the same thing, to fix them I uninstalled them, then booted to safe-mode then detected hardware and installed the drivers off the CD.

What I have tried:
Uninstalling, boot to safe-mode, re-installing the driver from the CD. Did have it set to plug and play until I got windows update drivers.

Hi there,

I own an almost antique Sony Vaio V3M with Windows XP SP3. I have managed to get a virus which appears to have attacked the display drivers because when booting up the final thing I see on screen is the XP logo and then the screen goes completely black after that. I know that the system is still running as I can hear the beep when I use the volume control and I can restart the system by entering windows key, U, then R.

I've got AVG free (now uninstalled) and Malwarebytes but nothing can seem to shift this virus. I can boot into safe mode with networking with no trouble (in this mode to write this post). My PC has a hard drive with two partitions: C and D with the program files on the C: drive (I'm pretty sure the virus is on this drive). I would be most grateful for any help, this is the first severe virus I've had in 8 years of use with this PC.

I think I have followed all of the required instructions but please let me know if I have missed anything.

My Dell Insipron 6400 laptop will not support multiple monitors. I think I may not have a key driver installed. Help!!

I have attached two separate images, screen shot of my device manager and display properties and a screen shot of the same image on my mothers PC. (which is also a Dell Inspiron 6400)

On my PC, In my device manager I can not view the display adapters (there must be something installed and I do not have visiblilty?? correct??)

Also, on my display properties I do not even have the option for Multiple monitor support. (these are the same PC's)

I inserted my Drivers and Utilities CD from Dell, but I did not see any driver on there that was applicable to a display adapter.

Am I on the right track???

Hello folks,

I seem to be having multiple problems all at the same time (all of which may or may not be related) but let me start from the beginning.

This all started when I tried to connect my Inspiron 1720 laptop to our television. For some reason my laptop froze, the image on both my computer and TV had white lines across it, and so I turned off my system since it was locked up.

I restarted and began having display problems - first windows were not opening in the desktop area. They would open in the system tray, but were "unreachable" by the mouse. I played with display settings and got the screen to fit...but now seem to have 2 primary problems:

PROBLEM 1:

Whenever I play games, view pictures, or Windows Media Player, I see strange "plaid boxes." However, the desktop is fine and everything else appears to work fine. I contacted NVIDIA and I have installed different driver versions, as well as the OEM (Dell's) driver's - all did not work - I still saw the distorted images when playing games, viewing pictures, and videos.

I have also completed System Restore's to points prior to when I was having the problem - unfortunately that did not work.

Here are screenshots of what I am seeing:

The first set of pictures that you put up look like classics examples of bad video RAM. In a desktop PC I would tell you to swap out the video card with a differnt one to verify that is the issue since in a few cases bad drivers can cause the issue but it's highly unlikely. Professional service by a local non big box computer shop is your best bet at this point.

Like my title states, upon boot-up, my Windows 10 64bit OS starts my PC in a 1080p display when my monitor's native display is 1440p. I have no idea why this is happening especially after all the troubleshooting steps I've taken/ think I've taken. When I start up my PC, it will display everything in 1080p resolution but when I go to display options or Nvidia Control Options, 1440p isn't even listed. It says that 1080p is the native display, which of course, it is not.

It all started when I did a clean install of my PC about 3-4 weeks ago. I installed everything but began to notice that my resolution would be all skrewy when I booted up. So I looked into things more and I figured it might be my GPU driver. Well, I reverted to an earlier driver and it still persisted. I updated my driver to the latest one and it still happens.

I looked at Device Manager and saw that my monitor was being displayed as a Generic PnP Monitor, so I figured my computer didn't have the proper firmware or it was corrupted or something like that. I looked all around but I couldn't find any firmware for the monitor, which is Asus pb278q. Its never done this before and only after I did a clean install has it been acting up.

When I did the clean install, I installed Windows 8.1 64bit and the problem started with that but now that I've upgraded to the free Win 10 OS, the problem still persists. I have literally tried, what feels like, everything.

Also, to add insult to injury, if I unplug my display... Read more

I have an HP DC7700u pc with a 1.86ghz core 2 duo processor and 4 Gb Ram (32 Bit). My monitor is an Hp Monitor as well. When I first plugged in the monitor and turned on the computer, the display looked a little "low quality" and the device manager showed "generic pnp monior". After a few days of using the computer and installing updates, the display suddenly looked really nice and the device manager showed the actual model number of the monitor. Now after about of month of use, the display is suddenly "low quality" again and the device manager is once again saying "generic pnp device". I tried updating the drivers and that didn't work. Looked on the Hp website as well as Microsoft site and both say the monitor is plug-n-play and no software is needed. Where do I go from here to make this work permanently?

A:Hp Monitor drivers not installing. Problems with Windows Update?

Most monitors are plug-and-play, but they may need updated drivers to cope with your graphics card.

You told us you have an HP monitor, but you didn't say which model it is.

Have a look at HP Support here: Updating a Monitor Driver - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

You may also want to update your graphics drivers as well. I can't advise you where because you haven't posted your full computer specs.

Hello all!
I'll try to explain my problem.

My problem is that with these drivers I got this message from windows : display drivers have stop responding and they've been recoveres (or something similar).
Same happened with drivers 10.10.
I had to roll back to drivers 10.9 and everything still runs fine.
I'm a bit sad since my computer is brand new (built it in august 2010), no overclock, nothing strange installed, and mostly used for World of Warcraft gaming. I like to keep my computer clean and I'm not used to test or stress or overclok it, but just to play my fav game.
Temperatures are more than fine checked everything...

I have a Benq FP7IE+ monitor that has suddenly stopped working. Here's the breakdown:

-when you turn the monitor on when hooked to a computer it will sometimes show the display for a brief moment (ie. showed HP booting screen at startup) and than stops displaying, but the blue light stays on the unit as if it is receiving a display. Other times it will display nothing at all, but the blue light stays on.

-with the blue light on if you attempt to press any of the menu buttons on the monitor itself again nothing is displayed.

-I don't believe that it's a refresh rate or driver issue even though I reinstalled the driver and hooked the monitor to PC running in safe mode and still no display (even though the blue light stays on).

-not the VGA cable, tried another, same result.

-hooked monitor to PC with the identical monitor working on it, same result, no display.

-if you unplug the power cord from the monitor and then plug back in and power back on it will always show the "Benq - Energy Star Qualified Monitor" screen as bright as ever, but then nothing is display even though blue light stays on.

-tried monitor on 3 different computers, no display on any of them.

Any idea what might be causing this? I apologize for being so long winded, but I wanted to include as many details as possible.

Tonight I was playing a good old game. I minimized to my desktop while the game was running and pulled open Windows calculator, did some calculator stuff, but then the computer goes into a blue error screen and then restarts. A few moments later, the display on my monitor suddenly turns off as if it were put to sleep. And even if I turn it off cold and restart the computer, nothing appears on the display at all, not even a BIOS logo screen. So weird.

System specs:
AMD E-350 Processor x2 (1.6Ghz)
4GB RAM (upgraded from OEM default 2GB)
500GB Hard Drive
GRAPHICS: AMD Radeon HD 6310
Acer (eMachines)-EL1360G UW12P
bundled with eMachines brand monitor/speakers

A:Monitor display suddenly turns off, can't get the display back

You can try:

- Remove the power cord of monitor and PC for a minute. Not just shut down.
- Clear CMOS if you don't mind reconfiguring the BIOS

My Gateway m1634u purchased several years ago came with Windows XP. After installing Windows 7, everything works wonderful, except my monitor, which is now using a generic PnP monitor driver and is utterly stuck at 1280x800, and any program that doesn't match that resolution gets wrapped in a black frame, but not resized.

I searched everywhere I could think to look, and have the latest ATI drivers for the card... but it still isn't fixing the monitor. Plus, it won't let me switch to any other scale or resolution. Can anyone help me get the drivers I need for this laptop monitor? Thanks!

A:Monitor drivers needed for m1634u Gateway after installing Windows 7

That machine is a Notebook and may not have an optional video card [most don't], uses what is built onto/into the motherboard. You should be able to get the necessary drivers from Gateway if they have them for Win7 but maybe Windows Update will have them. I changed my 4-year old M6888u from Vista to Win7 and had no problems. Mine has another number on the label on the bottom, W650I. Checking this Gateway page for mine finds "Service not available", doesn't show your model either.

Hi.

I recently got a monitor from one of my friends saying that it was broken. Its a Dell 19in LCD. I have my main monitor a 22in Samsung wide screen So i just plugged it into the second DVI slot on my graphics Card. When i went into the display config i set up dual monitors just to see if it was working. The dell monitor would blink up then quit on me.

When i was messing with the Display settings I made the Dell. Not my Samsung the Default Monitor. I unpluged the broken Dell and restarted. Now my computer regognizes the Samsung as the second monitor and it just shuts it off and recognizes nothing as the main.

I managed to get it into safe mode and it recognized the samsung but every time i try go back to Normal Start the screen is blank.

How can i get it to recognize the Samsung as my main?

Good morning.

I have a computer system that has had multiple viruses over the past 6 months. It seems like everytime I clean it, another virus pops up, almost always of the fake anti-virus variety.

This week I was called into the users office, and found the system in a loop. Starting Windows XP, then rebooting. After trying multiple times to get into safe mode, or boot normally, or anything I resorted to using the Windows XP cd and repairing the XP installation. This at least allowed me to boot into Windows again, but there are still issues.

I can not get into Internet Explorer, clicking on the icon results in "Internet Explorer has encountered a problen and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

The display drivers are not installed, and any attempt to install them results in an error stating that access is denied. Looking at the serupapi log, i can see that access is being denied when trying to do anything with igfxcui in the registry. If I browse to that location in regedit, i can not see the properties because I don't have access to it. (I am logged in as the administrator by the way).

I have installed Google Chrome as a way to get online with this sytem, and have had sporadic instances where I am being redirected to the wrong website after clicking a link in Google.

I have scanned the system with MBAM, SuperAntiSpyware, and AVG without any luck.

I have been working on running the Windows Updates, bringing it up to SP3, etc. There... Read more

I have a dual monitor setup, where the laptop is hooked to a 2nd monitor (TV) thru an HDMI . I primarily use the 2nd monitor. Can I blank screen the 1st (laptop screen) monitor, yet continue to use the 2nd monitor with the lid open for access to the keyboard?(I noticed with changed settings in Win7 control panel, I can close the lid without cutting off [sleep, hibernate or shut-off] the computer and had to reduce the 2nd monitor display to fit the visible screen. But to use the keyboard one has to open the laptop lid, which kicks in the 1st screen)Thank you

Hi - I have recently acquired a new work computer with 1 widescreen Dell monitor (Dell E228WFPc 1680 x 1050, Monitor A) and my older 4:3 monitor (E178FPc 1024 x 768, Monitor B). The graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce GT 620. I cannot get them both working at the same time on an extended display.

One is plugged into (excuse my slightly less-than-technical language here!) the 'main' monitor port and one has a VGA-DVI adapter.

When either monitor A or B is plugged into the main port without the other plugged in, they work fine.

When monitor A, the widescreen, is plugged into the main port and B is plugged in via the adapter, A works perfectly and the PC detects monitor B (if I set it to extend displays, programs open in that screen but I cannot see anything - the screen is completely black).

When B is plugged into the main port and A is on the adapter, B boots up normally until the point where I would usually see my Windows log in, when it goes black and I can only see and move the cursor.

I thought it would be a case of adjusting the screen res down so that they weren't so drastically different - in fact I'm still sure that would help but I can't get the smaller monitor B to let me do so and it doesn't seem to make a difference when widescreen monitor A is plugged into the main port with B in the other?

A:Extended display monitor problems with one widescreen and one 4:3 monitor?

That is usually normal. Try dragging a window over to the other monitor and see if it works.

I ordered and today received a new Gateway DX4831 07 Window 7 Desktop Computer and a new FHX2300 23 inch Gateway Monitor. I connected the monitor and computer in accordance (I used the HDMI cable connection between the computer and the monitor) with the included documentation double checked the connections and then turned on the monitor first and then powered up the computer. The monitor displays Gateway for a second or two and then after about 10 seconds it quickly displays no signal before going completely black. Upon turning on the computer, it beeps once and then after about a minute I hear a whirring sound as if the hard drive is turning. After that, the computer is very quiet (as I have read in reviews that it should be), but the monitor remains black no matter how long I leave the computer on. This is the second Gateway DX4831 07 I have ordered/received in the last two weeks. The first one did the same thing and I sent it back and reordered the same model hoping the second one would work. I really want to keep this computer rather than send it back a second time since it is full of features for the price. Gateway’s support is virtually nonexistent so this is not a reasonable option. All I can do is return it for a full refund within 30 days of purchase. Can you tell what the problem is likely to be and how I can solve it so that I can keep this computer. Im doing this for my Dad, so i have absolutely no idea how to describe the problem but i figured this place was my best shot as google is giving me no results on my query.
There appears to be no monitor drivers installed on the pc... and its running from the bare minimum settings. I think the refresh rate is set at a low low low setting, because lets say, if i move a window by dragging it across the screen, its all choppy, doesnt move smoothly at all... sort of like it jumps every half a second until i stop moving my mouse, then stops. The same with when i'm scrolling in internet explorer... smooth scrolling doesnt exsist! lol

I figured it was a driver problem seeing as there wasnt one installed. So i found the disk with the drivers on, and followed the instructions, which were as follows:
"Right Click" the mouse anywhere on the "BLANK" area on the desktop and click on PROPERTIES.
Click the SETTINGS tab and then click ADVANCED.
Click the MONITOR tab and then click PROPERTIES.
Under MONITOR PROPERTIES, click DRIVER then click UPDATE DRIVER.
On the HARDWARE UPDATE WIZARD, select Install from a list of specific location (ADVANCED) then click Next.
On the next HARDWARE UPDATE WIZARD window, select DON’T SEARCH, I WILL CHOOSE THE DRIVER TO INSTALL. Then click NEXT.
On the following window, click on HAVE DISK.
Type “D:\ENGLISH\DRIVERS” (Where “D” is the drive letter of your CD ROM Drive) on INSTALL FROM DISK window then click on OK.

I have 3 monitors connected to an AMD HD5770 graphics card. Two monitors connect via HDMI, and the third through a Sapphire Active DisplayPort->DVI adaptor. Things have been working fine for years, but recently I started sleeping my computer when I am not using it during the day, as opposed to my previous habit of leaving it on all day and then shutting down at night, and a couple of days after starting this new habit, I received a 'Display Port Link Failure' message:

"The system has detected a link failure and cannot set the requested resolution and refresh rate on your DisplayPort display. Your display might not support the requested resolution or there may be an issue with the cable connecting the display to your computer"

Now, even upon resuming my normal habit of leaving the computer on and shutting down, the monitor will work sometimes but randomly stop other times.

How can I either fix the issues with sleep, which I would prefer since I want to save energy (a money issue rather than believing my actions make any difference to the environment), or if there is a problem somewhere, determine if it is the graphics card or the adaptor that needs replacing.?

A:Display Port Link Failure, Active Display Port->DVI

It could be the hardware is starting to give out. Not all problems are software related. Going to be hard to nail down if you don't have another cable. Could be the cable or the port.

Any way to test with a straight cable, not the adapter cable?

Hi,

I have been having an issue using DisplayLink 3.0 USB Dual Monitor setup on my computer. I have one monitor connected to it via VGA though a VGA-DVI connector. The monitor has the VGA and the DisplayLink comes with a small VGA to DVI adapter you plug into the DisplayLink DVI port. The other monitor is connected using HDMI straight through. When I connect the laptop to the DisplayLink only the monitor that is connected via HDMI gets sensed to extend the desktop onto. The other monitor that is connect via VGA to the VGA to DVI adapter doesn't get sensed by the laptop or DisplayLink. I think it might be because it the laptop focuses on the HDMI link and ignores the VGA one. I can confirm the monitor that does not get sense is plugged in and working properly.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, I have a very nice Gateway laptop, three years old, it is a P-Series MG1
with dual core Centrino 2000 mgz CPUs and 4 gigs of RAM and 17 inch screen.

It was dropped once from a short height and ever since there is a permanent black vertical band near the right hand side of the screen. Replacing the LCD
screen will cost $200.

I would like to be able to reduce the amount of the screen that the computer display uses, so that I can narrow it enough to avoid the black vertical band which blocks everything displayed beneath it. My idea is that there may be some way to adjust the display settings to a completely smaller size , to use only the screen only partially. I'd like to be able to just click and drag the desktop to a reduced size , filling to the edge of the blacked out band and no farther.
Do you think there is a way to do this? I am using Windows XP

A:Line on monitor, can I use just half of the monitor for display?

What you can try to do if you dont want to replace the screen now is just hook it up to an external monitor and use it that way until you are ready to replace the screen. If it wont work with another monitor then replacing the screen will take care of the problem.Trying to reduce the settings might work but i dont think its going to be practical enough to be usable to see anything decent.

Hi folks -

Excel "help" says I should be able to do this but their instructions don't match my screen!

"You can display a linked object or embedded object in a workbook exactly as it appears in the source program or as an icon. If the workbook will be viewed online... you can display the object as an icon. Viewers who want to display the information can double-click the icon.
1. Click the icon for the linked or embedded object you want to display.
2. On the Edit menu, point to object type Object (for example, Document Object), and then click Convert.
3. To display the content of the object, clear the Display as icon check box.
To display an icon of the object, select the Display as icon check box. To change the default icon image or label, click Change Icon, and click the icon you want from the Icon list, or type a label in the Caption box.
"
I have a list of items in one column and want to have a link to the description for each in the next column, displayed as an icon so those who don't want to see all that text can ignore it. when I create the link, there is no icon, just the description, so I can't even get step 1 done. From the link cell, if I open the edit menu the "links" and "object" buttons are both greyed out. So I am stuck.
Any ideas gratefully appreciated! This is excel 2003.

I have an idea as I have had similar issues. Are you running a 64 bit version of Windows by any chance?

If you are, then I would place money on the fact that it has installed XP drivers rather than Vista ones.

To fix:
Remove the Wireless adapter.
Do a system restore to a point before you installed the drivers.
Install the drivers in Compatibility Mode with Vista (right click the setup file>Properties>Compatibility
Then try again

Did you try it with just the memory card?

Do you need the SCSI drive? Did you try the SCSI card without the drive attached to it? You said it has another drive besides the SCSI one, right?

There really aren't drivers for these kinds of parts, and the battery doesn't track them. SCSI controllers get drivers for Win9x, but not for DOS - unless you are adding a CDROM or something like that. For a hard drive you don't do anything.

The battery tracks time / date and installed components - if it was wiped out the time and date would have reset. Did they?

Hey guys,

I just bought this wireless card. It operates in 802.11n mode, so it's relatively new, but there are no drivers for it for Vista X64. I tried downloading driver from TP-Link's website, which states that the drivers should work on vista too. Unfortunately they don't.

The installation program tells me that on 64bit OS, drivers will work but wireless utilities won't. However, neither of these work.

Do you have any solution for me? Perhaps some 3rd party drivers? It is Atheros chipset inside this card.

Thanks in advance!

So I just installed Windows 7 and tried to plug my D-Link DWA-130 Wireless N USB Adapter, however windows decides to detect it as something other than this and cannot install the drivers... I also tried to use driver installations from D-Link but... they tell me to plug in my USB adapter... which I do... but it doesn't get detected as the DWA-130... any suggestions?

Hey folks,

I've been looking for the driver that's compatible with Windows 7 for this integrated sound, and I can't seem to find it. I've included the Hardware ID below.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi everyone,

I am looking for a solution to linking my PS2 to a TFT computer monitor. I've seen a few VGA cards in Maplin, but they're like £70.

I wonder if anybody knows of a cheaper solution!? My PS2 links via a SCART or RCA. There's also an AV multi-out. My monitor only has a VGA input.

Thanks guys.

Paul

it MIGHT work, but you have to check the voltage , current (Amps), polarity of the connector, and connector type, as to whether it will fit or not. If all these are the same it will porobably work, if noy, then it wont
