Q: wifi and ethernet connected but limited access

hello everyone,
I recently bought a dell inspiron 5520 laptop and I am able to connect to internet using my broadband ISP username and password and they had provided their own modem which works like a charm..

IPV4 - NO INTERNET ACCESS
AND IPV6 NO INTERNET ACCESS
though it shows large amount of data sent and received..
and hence I am not able to surf internet.. All my frnds are able to do the same using their laptops in my room .. NOTE- LAN GETS CONNECTED USING THE ETHERNET CABLE IN MY HOUSE..THE MODEM WORKS FINE AS OTHER FRIENDS ARE ABLE TO SURF

and as for the wifi...
it scans for networks and shows limited connectivity and I cannot access net

Hello, I'll try to be as clear as I can.

I have my computer hooked up to my router with an Ethernet cable. About an hour ago the Limited sign popped up. With the cable connected it says Limited, but I can freely use the internet. When I take the cable out, under connections it still only says "Ethernet Limited" and I can't use the internet. I'm not sure about any specs to my comp. All I know Is I'm using windows 8 and it's from Toshiba. I know it's not much to go on, but I'm losing my mind and any help would be wonderful. Thank you.

This picture is how it looks when the cable is, and isn't, plugged in.

A:Limited Access with Ethernet, even when not connected

With the cable pulled out, the picture is correct (for a wired Lan Connection).
When it is attached AND you have access to the Internet, it should not be limited.
SO, get a command prompt ( start->run and enter CMD ) and enter

IPCONFIG /ALL >myTCP.txt
then NOTEPAD myTCP.txt
copy the contents and PASTE that as your follow-up

I have a new Toshiba (not sure if that really matters) which came with Windows 8. The other 12 people who share my wifi used Windows 7. I don't know if that's important.Main point: I am the only one in my house whose computer cannot use the wifi. I used it for about three weeks with not more complicatios than everyone else until a day or two ago. Now while others have normal access mine continues to be limited with not internet access. When Microsoft searches for a problem it says "Problems found: 'Wi-Fi doesn't have a valid IP configuration'". Do I need to do something with my computer, the modem, the router, or something else? Many thanks

A:Wifi connected with limited access

The other 12 people who share my wifi used Windows 7Although routers can connect multiple devices at the same time by wireless there are some obstacle you must check first like the distance and interference. The wireless feature of the router such as channel and signal would be the clear probable solution. Depending also on your router, look for an updated firmware version that might stabilize your whole connection and try updating your network adapter if available.

I cannot seem to get through the limited access on my WIFI network. I have a Ralink RT5390R 802.11 WIFI card, a Comcast Cable Modem & network. Laptop Pavilion DV7 connects to other wireless networks and other devices connect to the Comcast Modem no problems. I have disconnect Norton's Security, shut off Comcast Modem Security, updated driver and reinstalled but nothing has worked. I have read that Ralink RT5390R is incompatible with the Comcast modem but I just want to make sure I didn't miss anything. Truly stumped on this. I have pasted IPConfig /all below with Rizzo being my SSID. I am currently connected through an Ethernet cable to my cable modem while connected wirelessly to Rizzo with limited connection. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I use a laptop and recently the wifi has stopped working for me. I can still connect completely but it says with "limited access," which results in me being unable to access the internet at all. The rest of the computers in the house work fine on the wifi and I double-checked the securtiy settings (WAP2 and all that) and it seems fine. What can I do? Tethering to my phone allows me to get on the internet and the computer connects successfully, but no websites will load whatsoever.

Just recently my HP ProBook 4520s, running Windows 7 32-bit, has had trouble connecting to the internet through WiFi. I've been reading into it and looking around the net, but to no avail. It shows my home network and connects, but with limited access (no access to the net in my case).

I did a system restore in hopes that it would fix the problem, and I got access for all of 30 seconds before it went back to limited connectivity. I manually updated the network card drivers, and still nothing. It's leading me to believe that its my router blocking access (Netgear WNDR3700). I haven't had a problem up until recently and its only with the laptop. My desktop PC, game consoles, and television can all still access the internet, with the desktop connecting through WiFi as well. I checked the router logs and noticed several DoS attacks and was thinking this may have something to do with it (and possibly laptop being infected?).

I'm using a MBP mid 2012 15-inch non-retina running Windows 7 through BootCamp.
I decided to update my installation to the SP1 and hence installed a few Windows essential updates. After the update, I realized that my WiFi failed to connect to any hotspot, although all were present in the connection selection dialogue in the system tray. On clicking connect on any SSID, it takes around 30 seconds and then says "Connection unsuccessful , Limited connectivity to **** "
Also, neither connecting an ethernet cable nor USB tethering from my Android phone seem to work. Any help?
I've tried installing the latest BootCamp Support software, tried uninstalling and deleting existing ethernet and wireless adapter drivers

MacBook Pro, Windows 7, Running OS X 10.8.3 and BootCamp 5

EDIT: I have manually update both the ethernet and WLAN drivers, to no avail

I think everybody knows about the problem with windows 8.1 at laptops with the limited ethernet (wifi), so I have the same problem on my PC and I cant find a cure...

Someone, any advices? Coz of this I cant loggin to my windows store and have problems with connection...

A:Limited Ethernet at PC (no the WIFI)!

Do not know what problems you are talking about with limited wifi & windows 8.x.x. Majority of the issues are Router/Gateway related.

It helps to know the mfg & model of your router/gateway, and spec's on the laptop. Use Speccy so you can upload system info on here, from the URL it gives you after it inspects your system. Speccy - System Information - Free Download

Hi. I'm having issues with my modem. Anyways, the problem started when I purchased a Linksys Wrt54G router.

I was connecting to the internet using LAN/ethernet okay. I tried setting up a wifi connection in my home using the linksys wrt54g router. Everything was working fine until after two days when I suddenly can't connect to the internet on my linksys. I tried to directly connect my modem through the ethernet to check if the problem was with my ISP. LAN says limited or no connectivity. I tried plugging the modem through my laptop, I found out that my laptop can connect to the internet using ethernet so the problem was not with my ISP. I had to reset my linksys router and set it up all over again. Wifi connection was okay again.

After three days, I can't get any connection again. I tried directly connecting the modem again to my laptop to check but my laptop says limited or no connectivity. I tried connecting directly to the ethernet on my PC, it says limited or no connectivity again. I tried resetting the Linksys router again and set up my connection again (hoping against hope) and miraculously, I was able to connect.

Now there seems to be a problem with my LAN connections both on my PC and laptop and it seems that only my linksys router can communicate with my modem (everytime I had to do a reset). I tried reseting tcp stack, etc. But my LAN connection is still limited or no connectivity. Any help would be appreciated.

BTW, my modem is a motorola surf... Read more

Hopefully this is the correct thread. I'm 69 years old, so patience, please!

I was able to enjoy blistering speed, 72mbs down / 20 mbs up. My old Dell all-in-one went belly up and I had to purchase a new computer.

This coincided with a problem with the BT Infinity broadband where a connection in the box up the street came loose. Now repaired, BT assure me all is OK to our premises and therefore the problem is mine!

Our speed is now hovering around 50mbs down / 13mbs up. This seems to make difference sometimes, especially when both my wife and I are streaming - her to PC and me to iPad to TV via Apple box.

The funny thing is the supposedly ethernet connected PC is giving similar speed results to those of the iPad. That prompted me to wonder whether the desktop PC may be connected via wifi or both wifi and ethernet and perhaps causing a conflict somewhere.

I only need wifi on the desktop to connect to our printer which is always "found" when required.

In a nutshell, is there a simpleton's way to check when I am connected to the BT Home hub using both wifi and ethernet and if both, which one takes precedence?

Thanks.

A:Is my PC connected via wifi or ethernet?

It may be that Wi-Fi and Ethernet are not the issue but the speed from the Modem to the WAN/Wide Area Network or known as the Internet. Wi-Fi and Ethernet are usually the connection between computers/devices and the Router which is then connected to the Modem to gain Internet access. The Modem and Router may be in the same box.

How do you know which one is it gonna choose when you're connected with both wired and wireless? Is there some type of "test" it does to take the better connection? Or does it like pick randomly? Alternate?

A:When connected both ethernet and WiFi, which does it choose?

If you are using the same ISP to connect to the Ethernet and WiFi then you should choose one of them only. Ethernet would be my first choice if the Router is nearby and the computer is not connected by a very long wired cable.

I am wondering if there is any way to have a computer automatically disable WiFi when I plug it in via Ethernet. Then when I unplug the Ethernet cord it will enable Wireless again. Aka:

I have WiFi turned on.
I'm at my house connected to my WiFi.
I plug in Ethernet cord and it automatically switches to the wired connection.
Then if I unplug Ethernet it will automatically switch back to the wireless connection.

I do not understand scripts or how to use them ):

I thought that this question is silly. I've never had to worry about my smart phone using my cell data when wifi is clearly connected. This seems not to be the case on win 10. The moment I connect cell modem, it starts sending data as fast as its 3G speed can do. All I wanted to do is to check any SMS on it. I know there's metered connection for wifi but why not for cell? Any solution to always rank cell low when win wants internet so much?

Hi -- I'm new here and I'm not sure I am posting this in the right forum, but my Gateway laptop won't access the internet and gives me the error in the network and connections as "connected with limited access" or "local only". My other computers connect fine to the router so its definitely my computer. I have Vista OS -- Gateway online "help" said I have a defective network card because the IP address came back as a default. So, I bought a usb network card, disabled my other one and still didn't work. I tried an ethernet cable and that doesn't work either. I also tried connecting to my city's free wifi with the same result.
System Restore didn't work
I put my setting to find the DNS and IP automatically
My Wireless network shows as connected -- I am just not able to get an IP

I had previously had an intermittent problem with this and assumed it was the signal. Now, it just stopped working entirely.

I am thinking this must be a problem with Vista, because the other network card and the cable didn't work either. Any ideas on how to fix this?

A couple of weeks ago I noticed that I no longer had a wired connection on my laptop, only the wifi. For ages I've run with both connected, it prioritized the wire, and I never had a problem, but the wired connection dropped out and will not come back to life even if I disconnect from the wifi. I spent a lot of time over the past few days doing online research, didn't want to get too aggressive but here is what I have tried:

Give the ethernet card's MAC address a static IP on the gateway (Actiontec router provided by Verizon)
Attempt to configure the IPv4 properties on the ethernet card to use the right default gateway and mask (these have gone south as you'll see in my ipconfig dump below)
ipconfig release and renew - renew never completed
New cable (that was my first try)
New driver
Fell back to old driver

I was at a home today and connected to their private home network on a Surface Pro 4. This showed their network as Connected. However, the internet kept going to a local open BT network instead! I couldn't select this open network anywhere to exclude it. Thinking about it now, I should have disabled/reenabled Wifi first, and then tried a reboot after that. But otherwise, is there any hidden setting to ignore certain networks?

A:Using 'open' access Wifi point instead of connected private wifi.

Hello and welcome to the TenForums

If the home where you were had a BT hub then it most probably was offering both an open connection also known as BT Wifi or BT Fon and also a secured wifi connection which would have an SSID number with a BThub name with some random numbers and letters. It is possible that you connected to the open one and were then automatically directed to a BT broadband page on the internet to pay for use of the BT hotspot service that they provide via customers routers. See this article for more info: http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/d...fi-with-fon%3F

Open Device Manager and see if there are any red x's or yellow flags next to your network adapter. Next, open a command prompt, Windows Key + R, type cmd and then type the following without the quotes and paste all the results back here, "ipconfig /all". Also check, open IE, click Tools, Internet Options, Connection Tab and then the LAN Tab and in the window that opens make sure that all the check boxes are clear, if not clear them and close IE and re-open IE.

Hey guys, I just recently got a new notebook that comes with Windows 7. I'm still using my old desktop that has Vista, and that's where I'm posting from right now.

Anyway, while I love my notebook I've been having some trouble lately on trying to connect with our wireless network. It would connect but say "limited access." I've tried reconnecting over and over again, tried deleting the network, restarting and trying to connect, basically just everything I could have physically tried I did, with some help from the people online. However, it still does not work. I know it's not a problem with the device because I have tried connecting using my neighbor's wireless network and it would connect. My friend's dad says it might be because of the password issue or whatever.

Anyway, I need some help figuring out how to fix this issue. I have a Gateway LT series notebook and we use a D-Link router at home. Thanks in advance for the help. If you guys need more info, I'll try my best to give it. Even though I could be pretty ignorant with all the technical stuff.

A:connected but with limited access

Welcome, fgonzales.

1. Does your wireless network have a password?

2. What is the model of your notebook?

3. Model of your D-Link router?

4. Apartment/House?

5. Does your router have DHCP turned on or off?

Thanks!

I recently just got a laptop for college.Today I tried to connect to the internet and it's connected but its says Limited access. I have been looking online to fix this problem and they say to go online. But when I open a browser I can't connect. I was wondering how I fix this? I have a cable that connects to my router. But it's still saying limited access to any internet connection that I can use (ex. wireless, cable). But I don't know how to fix it. It says that it's connected but it's unable to identify the problem. If anyone could help it would be great!

A:Connected but says limited access

"Limited access" means that your system is connected to the router, but the router is not getting connected to the internet. So the problem is with your cable connection and/or cable provider, not with your system or router. Contact your cable provider to correct the problem.

About two months ago my internet connection basically disappeared suddenly, while I was playing an online game. Confused, I went through all the normal channels I follow when internet trouble shows up, resetting this or that, diagnostics, checked everything I could. The only time I've never been able to fix my own computer or network was when the problem was outside my control.

When I finally came to the conclusion that my modem was the issue, I called tech support, and went through the entire process again, complete with a screensharing session that checked all the settings I already had and, even though no settings were changed, I was told "Well, I've done all that I can to speed up your system and there's still a problem." (I'm over it now, but I sat on hold for literally 54 minutes waiting for tech support that only confirmed that I know what I'm doing; that is precisely why I learned how to do all this stuff -- to avoid tech support).

However, I was told to check my WLAN card to see if it was working. Windows said yes, but just to be sure I reinstalled the drivers. Nothing changed. I bought a whole new WLAN card and installed it. Nothing changed. I got fed up and disabled it, bought a WNA 1100 USB-N Adapter, and it seemed to get better, but never quite got back the gusto it had before.

Hello.

Firstly let me apologise if this question is repeated elsewhere but I could not find anything identical to it.

I have an Acer laptop and connect from this to the internet via a CDMA connection provided by the local (I live in Thailand) version of a Novatel MiFi 2200 modem. This works just fine for internet browsing and I simultaneously use P2P software to download UK TV stuff.

I also have a wired network in my house and on this I have a 3Gb NAS drive. There is a wireless router on the network but I am outside of it's range.

When I connect the network cable to connect to the NAS drive, I am no longer able to browse the internet. BUT the P2P software still carries on working as before. So therefore my laptop is still connected to the internet via the Wifi network.

So why does my browser think otherwise. Normally I use Google Chrome but I have also tried IE and this suffers from the same fate.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I'm running on windows 7 professional with a realtek gigabit ethernet port. It's a gateway SX2370. It originally came with home premium and a bunch of bloatware so I restored with pro. I thought I installed all the drivers but a few minutes after bootup, the ethernet breaks. It works for a few minutes, as I can access the internet, and then itt gives me the no internet access error. I used a usb wireless card and that works after bootup, but doesn't run as nearly as fast as my gigabit ethernet. I'm pretty sure I installed the right drivers, but how can I be sure?

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit on a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop and for some reason, the Internet has stopped working sometime during the evening on the 20th of July in 2016 after I unsuccessfully tried to fix Just Cause 2 by changing a setting for Data Execution Prevention from "turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only" to "turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select:" and I selected "Just Cause 2" and its shortcuts and I restarted my laptop for the changes to take effect (I will explain this problem further in another thread). It now sometimes says connected or limited access but unidentified network and no Internet access. I don't know why the Internet stopped working after that.

The Internet only works in Safe Mode with Networking but not in normal mode.

I right-clicked the Wireless Connection icon, clicked "troubleshoot problems" and the Windows Network Diagnostics troubleshooter loads and tries to troubleshoot the problem for a few seconds and it then tells me to turn off the modem for 10 seconds and then turn it back on.

I've tried that multiple times, System Restore, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and maybe Panda Antivirus to no avail.

I don't have this problem on my iPad, my phones and some other devices, only on my laptop.

I don't want to have to buy a reinstall Windows 7 or buy a new laptop or computer.

Can you please help me fix the Internet on my laptop as soon as possible?

A:It sometimes says connected or limited access but no Internet access.

Hi PK2,
Sounds more like you game caused the problem.
Revert the DEP settings, hopefully that will give you your internet back.
If that fails try your OLDEST restore point.

You will NOT have to buy W7 again, your comp has a factory restore option, possibly in the Dell program files, or via your Bios.

Im assuming your other problem is a BSOD.
Go Control panel >> device manager >> update your graphics card and Network adapters, and are there any marked with an ! or a small black down arrow or Problem devices.

Last week MS did its normal automatic downloads with 8 updates.

After its conclusion, I was unable to log onto my network. I restored my PC to the previous day's settings. At this stage I could log on OK. However, once I rebooted, I could no longer logon. I discovered that the upgrades which I had removed had beeen reinstalled on my PC. I continued restoring, disabling more and more of the updating switches to try and get back to the stable condition I was in a week ago. Eventually, however, I was unable to login at all.

Looking at my network condition, it tells me I am "Connected with limited access", a position which appears to have afflicted others recently. Using "Diagnose Connection Problems", I find that the network adapter, RealtekPCIe GBE Family Controller, is experiencing driver or hardware related issues. On device manager, it tells me that the device is working proiperly. I downoaded the latest driver (6.227.902.2009) just in case - no difference however.

I am using a Netgear router with a wireless adapter (Rangemax Wireless-N USB WN111v2). Could someone please tell me if the PCI network adaptor is still being used whilst I am operating a USB wirelesss adaptor - or does the wireless adaptor not need the PCI to operate a network (I do not have an ethernet network on the PC)??

Dell laptop Inspiron 1545, WRT54GS - "Connected With Limited Access" - drove me up the wall. Tried everything. Browsed other forums for hours. What did I do? Just for grins, and for NO particular reason, I switched from WEP to WPA Personal / TKIP in the router and to WPA / TKIP in the laptop and other PC, entered the ten-char key I've always used, and POOF - instant connection. I sure would love to have someone explain this to me...

Phil H.

A:Connected With Limited Access - WRT54GS

I am glad you got your connection working. You did yourself a favor by going from WEP to WPA. WEP can be cracked in 2-3 minutes. WPA can be cracked as well but it takes more time (hours).

I would, however, suggest you go to WPA2/AES if your hardware supports it. With WPA2, it takes years to crack an encrystion key that is 10 characters or longer. If you use a 63 character, randomly generated encryption key, it will take upwards of 300 years to crack at current processing speeds.

I use this site to get my 63 random characters from...

https://www.grc.com/passwords.htm

Of course, I always change a few characters when copying from the web site and always change my encryption key at least every 2-3 months.

Hello all,
I am having an extremely hard time connecting to my new internet network. I'll explain all and try and include as much detail as possible.

I've just moved back to university and into a house with some friends. We now have 50mb virgin broadband which is installed and working (I have connection on this netbook, my ps3 and my friend's laptop is also connected.) The problem is on my desktop. I connect to the network that we've set up and it goes through the connecting process. After about a minute I'll be connected but will have no internet access and be unable to surf the web, etc.

I've tried everything I can think of but nothing has worked. Im getting "No internet" on my ivp4 and ivp6 protocols on the connection.

Please help me! I'm needing to get this sorted before my year begins and the essays roll on

I know I've included next to nothing about ip's and everything but I dont know what to include, so if you could just tell me what you'd like to see/how I go about getting the information for you Ill be doing it ASAP and sticking it up here for you to look at.

Please keep in mind that I cant connect to the internet on my desktop so can't copy paste certain things straight from the machine.

Please help a student in need!
Many thanks,
Jonathan.

Hi all

My laptop has been playing up for the past two weeks, it keeps displaying 'limited access' despite my adapter claiming to be connected.
I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro c650 and the adapter is the Atheros AR9285.
I have system restored multiple times after which the internet works fine, its when I turn my laptop back on the problem seems to reoccur.
Wireless Network Connection status says that my laptop is not connected to IPv4 or IPv6. I have no idea what any of this means and have been going out of my mind trying to decipher computer language.

Please help

A:limited access but adapter claims to be connected

Limited Access usually means that the adapter hasn't managed to get its IP address from the router and Windows has allocated a 169.254.x.x APIPA address (Automatic Private IP Addressing). This won't let you access either the router or the internet. Try deleting the existing "profile" and then go through the procedure to "Connect" again:

Go to "Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center", then click the link at the left to Manage wireless networks. Click on your network to highlight it and then select "Remove".

Now go back to the network icon beside the clock, click it to show the Available Wireless Networks, select yours and "Connect" to it, when you'll be prompted to enter the encryption key again. See if that resolves the problems.

Hi.

I don't know if this problem should be in this forum, or the one for Vista, as it involves 3 computers- a desktop with XP, and 2 laptops with Vista.

Anyway, on the desktop, I tried to set up a network so that the laptops could be connected to the printer upstairs (which is attached to the desktop). (All of the computers involved were already connected to the internet and fine.

So, I first set up a home network, then thought it might not be right so set up a wireless network too. (by clicking the links shown below, and following all the steps- and when I had to plug in a memory stick the desktop, I did that, then plugged it into the BT Home Hub, then both the laptops, then back to the desktop again).

So I thought, wahoo, all done.

Then, when I went to my laptop, I found it wasn't connected to the internet. Instead, it said something like 'Connected to BT HomeHub****' Excellent connection, Connected with limited access'.

I found it was the same on the other laptop. Both laptops now can't access the internet. Note that when I followed the steps to set up a network on the desktop, it was on an account that had it's internet access limited by the BT Yahoo Parental Controls, where you have to sign in to access the internet (I don't know if this is relevant).

So what I want to do now, is scrap the whole 'home network' idea. It was just going to be an added bonus, but now it's stopped the internet access from both laptops (it's still fine on the desktop).... Read more

A:[SOLVED] Wireless network - 'Connected with limited access'

The fact that you were on a limited account may be the problem. I don't know anything about Vista, but I'd try setting up the network connections when you're in a full access account.

hello ian,

Try this tutorial out: Internet Troubleshooting Guide - created by Dinesh

Failing that, download the most recent driver (make sure it is 64bit driver, if your computer is 64 bit) from the computer's website, uninstall the one you have, and install the new one.

Let me know how it goes.

there cold be several reasons.

first try ipconfig /flushdns, then ipconfig /renew if that helps it is a dns issue

if that doesnt help and you are using "homegroup" it may well be that for homegroup has connectivity issues on some mixed OS networks. you can verify it by making a new network connection using "workgroup". If that works you can then kill IPv6, and homegroup

Hi, im having trouble with my wifi. The day before it works fine but then the next day i turned on my Vaio laptop and it says Limited Access to my home wifi. I tried connecting to other wifi but same thing. I tried resetting the router, disabling and enabling the wireless connection but all didnt work. I tried connecting it with the cable directly still cannot connect. Finally i did a system restore to the day before where its working fine, it worked. The next day it says Limited Access again! So im guessing 'something' made my wifi error after that 1 day and i dont know what to do.. Any help would be appreciated.

A:Wifi has limited access

Something i noticed : after i use system restore, the problem happens on the next startup of windows( since i use my laptop all day the problem happens the next day) and also i tried updating my wireless driver but it worsens the problem from Limited access to unable to detect any wifi nearby.. please help

Recently I pulled a dell dimension 5150 out of my basement, dusted it off and got it running again with xp sp2 (I only had the installation disk for that one). With one exception. I'm using an Ethernet cable going directly to my router and it says that I'm connected to 1394 at 400.0 Mbps (which I found to be rather surprising) but I cant activate my windows (I wiped the hard drive and re-installed) or access internet explorer so that I can get chrome. If you need any other information please let me know. I am currently posting this from my current computer which has wireless and is working fine.

Hi there everyone ,

I have an HP Elitebook 8460p on Windows 7 connecting with Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced N-6205.

I used to be able to connect a certain WiFi connection for a long time, then suddenly, the day after... Trying to connect, it connects for a second (i see white bars and connection looks fine), i open up Chrome which says no connection found (blank page appears) and then WiFi Signal in my tray gets a yellow triangle with exclamation mark [Limited-Access]. Since the problem started, I am able to connect through another WiFi connection named linksys_media that I never saw before and that is WEIRDLY having the SAME password as the one I am suppose to be able to connect to at first... I've uninstalled my drivers, reinstalled... Problem still here... The password is good... I don't know... Sometimes instead of writing Limited-Access it says No Internet Access... and with my IPhone I am able to connect with the password and connection works fine.... Please Help... My ex-connection was way faster than linksys_media to which I am connected at the moment.

P.s. I've found a post on this site with an answer that solved problem for many but I didn't have AVG installed and didn't find AVG Internet Filter or something like in my protocols...

THANKS!

-Breezy-

Hey guys I need help please. I am using a Toshiba NB505 Netbook running Windows 7 Starter.

I usually access the internet via tethering my phone - and yesterday morning when I tried to play my morning crossword puzzle, I received an error stating that an important file "xw_control.xml" could not be found. I was using Firefox so I tried Chrome, with the same result.

I googled and learned (I think) that this file is possibly flash related, and I know my flash was out of date - so I downloaded the latest flash from Adobe.

Now I am unable to connect to the internet at all. It connects to my phone, but with "Limited access". And I tried a wifi location at my local library and it does the same thing - Limited access only.

I have restarted, shutdown, and done a battery-pull on the phone - to no avail. I have no idea what is happening, so I'm hoping you guys can help me. Thank you very much.

A:Limited access only when trying to connect to wifi etc.

I uninstalled flash to no avail. So I guess I can't blame that. How do I go about troubleshooting the limited access? I have connected just fine to this phone (and other networks) for a long time. Until now...

I am not sure why, but my laptop at the office constantly goes to limited connectivity only. If I disconnect and connect it will work again, but then the cycle repeats anywhere between 2 minutes after to a couple of hours.

There are lots of other computers in the office and only mine is doing this. I have gone into the cmd prompt and run an ipconfig dnsflush release and renew. I have gone to the intel website and installed the newest drivers from my wifi chip and if anything it might be happening a bit more often.

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

I am at a loss of what to try next, it would be greatly appreciated if someone could help me out. I am happy to follow instructions posted and provide any log files that you think may be of use.

Thanks,

Hi,

so I came home from college for break and my laptop connected fine to my house WiFi on Thursday but starting last night (I didn't use it on Friday or Saturday) my laptop has "limited access" to my house WiFi. No internet access at all.

I went to Starbuck's earlier and it connected without any issues. My brother claims that it's my college's (unprotected) WiFi that changed my settings so it won't let me connect to the protected house WiFi but it worked fine with the house WiFi on Thursday night.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated

Every time I start my laptop, I can't access the internet and get a "limited access" warning on my wireless network.
The "troubleshoot problems" option fixes the problem (usually by resetting the network adapter), but it's not a permanent solution, because as soon as I restart the laptop, it's the same story all over again.

I have a desktop (Windows 7) connected through ethernet and another desktop (XP Home) also connected over wifi, both working just fine.

OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 7601 Multiprocessor Free Service Pack 1
Network adapter: Ralink RT5390 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter
Signal strength: fair (starting my laptop right next to the router to get excellent strength doesn't help)
Modem/Router: B-Box2 (Sagem [email protected] 3464)
Firewall: Windows Firewall
Antivirus: AVG Free Edition

A:WiFi limited access on startup

Most likely this is because of a preinstalled wireless connection software which can be uninstalled by going to add/remove programs. In most cases it's best to use the Windows 7 connection wizard.

I would definitely get rid of the "free" AVG as this software causes connection problems all the time.

Let me know if those changes have any effect on the problem.

I will try to explain my situation as best I could:

I have a desktop running windows XP Professional x32 SP3 and my network adapter is a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller. The desktop is connected to the network with an ethernet cable.

Here is my problem:
Up until yesterday the internet connectivity just stopped working. I am seeing a very low number of received packets as opposed to the high number when it was working. It is showing that it is connected to the network but I still can't access the internet. Also I should mention that the desktop is at work and it is connected to a DHCP server that assigns IP addresses. I have updated all the drivers and I have used Winsock Fix and Netsh but it still isn't working. However the weird thing is that if assign a static IP address to it...it works. But I can't do this because I am not suppose to hook it up to the ports assigned to the switch for static IP's. It has to be connected to the DHCP switch. Why does it work when assigned a static but not if it gets an IP assigned by the DHCP server or switch. Also even if I try to reset, renew or release the IP...when I connect again it still gives me the same IP. It wont change. Sorry if i'm not explaining too well. Again this is why i'm asking for help..i'm not too good with these things. TIA to anyone and everyone who can give me any ideas. I'll try them all..and i'll post back if it helps. Thanks again!

I have the following situation. I'm running Dell Latitude D630 with Windows 7. Using built-in WiFi, at home connecting to Router from AT&T UVerse

Everything worked fine for months. Now I have the following situation. It finds the WiFi, and connects, but with only "limited access". The network status says:
Limited Access
IPv4 Connectivity: No network access
IPv6 Connectivity: No network access
Media State: Enabled

After doing the diagnostics, it said the following:
Problems found:
"Wireless Network Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration

Well, clearly it doesn't because the DHCP didn't assign it one, because, hey, it couldn't connect!

For giggles, I entered what I know to be the right IP address for this computer, along with the gateway and DNS settings, and sure enough, it works. So, for some reason, the DHCP isn't working.

I am not sure what I've done to the computer to cause this. It connects to other WiFi networks just fine (Starbucks, hotel and airport networks, work network)

Also, although I'm using DHCP, in the router, I've set up each computer in the network to be assigned a fixed address. So, the set up I have now will work fine, but I'm sure that if I go to another network, I'll have to switch back to DHCP client on the laptop.

Furthermore, the home network wifi works just fine when I use the MacBook. So that means, the router is fine and is able to assign it an address.

I *really* wish Windows... Read more

A:WiFi started saying Limited Access all of a sudden

Just to clarify does the router give out ip's to any machine?
Are you sure that the Mac book is getting a dynamic (random) ip everytime and that it isn't just using the last one? have you tried renewing the ip on the mac book to see if it finds a new one (don't ask me how :P)

I would suggest rebooting the router and changing the DHCP range on it, if it uses 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1 then change it to 192.168.x.1 (something like 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1) it may well be the router has forgot to release the ip's it has previously assigned to devices and hence has run out.

Okay, so I moved my wireless router to a more central location in my house (I got low signal in my room) and since then I've been able to connect to the network but only with limited access. Trying to connect to a webpage results in the "DNS lookup failed" error message (Chrome). My brother's computer had had the same issue, and the PlayStation 3 has had connectivity issues also, however I have been able to use my phone with the WiFi without any issues.

I've tried unplugging/turning the router on and off to no effect. Using a different router does not change the situation either. When I try to diagnose the network connection, it says that it could not identify the problem. Any ideas?

Some information:

Both computers run Windows 8
My phone is a Nokia Lumia 620 running WP8
The WiFi status window states that IPv4 and IPv6 have no internet access
My computer uses a Qualcomm Atheros AR5B125 wireless network adapter and says it is working correctly. The adapter is set to work with IPv4/6. IPv4 is set to obtain IP & DNS addresses automatically.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It?s a desktop using wifi to avoid a long cable deployment. I?m using my husband?s machine, right next to mine, to post about it, over the same wifi network, but according to my machine there are either no networks available or the connection is limited, which seems to mean useless. The device manager says the network card and the wifi fob are working correctly, and i had no trouble until 2 days ago. I got out an old, long cable and connected to the network with that, and for a few minutes Chrome said there was no internet connection while Skype worked fine. Now Chrome has found the network.
I tried the reset IP stack solution suggested in a closely related thread today with no luck. Utorrent had sent out an update just before this started, i tried deleting it and ran CCleaner. This has been an intermittent problem, as well - last night the wifi worked fine.

Hi all

Having a bit of an issue with my home WiFi with a BT Homehub type A. At random intervals I'll get limited access and not be able to use the internet. This is quickly resolved by disconnecting and reconnecting to the WiFi. I thought I'd fixed the issue by doing the following commands:

ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /register dns
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset reset.log hit

But after around 24 hours the issues have resurfaced.

This is my ipconfig /all log:

Hi, first post but very much need help. I saw similar threads to what my problem is but not exactly the same.

Basically I got a new wireless adapter last weekend. It was working fine, but then an automatic windows update occurred and I could not connect to the Internet anymore. It just says "limited access". I system restored to before the update and it went back to working fine. But now I can't restore to that previous point anymore so Internet is completely gone. I've not been able to get a cable to connect yet but I'm fairly sure that will work. However I would obviously prefer wireless to work.

I'm positive it has to do with this update but have no idea what and how to solve it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My situation is a little bit hard to explain but I'll try to tell you the best I can; about 3 days ago my father cut the power to the house too replace a bathroom light without getting electrocuted. Ever since then my laptop has been playing up in all sorts of ways, most notably the poor internet connection (hence why I put this thread in the network area because I'm not too sure what's going on with it at all).

To sum up it's problems quickly: certain things tend to take a lot of time on it. Plugging in memory sticks, opening up new Windows, even the Internet. I do know that it isn't my family's wifi that is the problem, all our other devices work and my laptop has the same trouble with my school's Internet (also because it isn't only my wifi being effected). I also know that it's not memory or CPU related.

It pretty much turned from a pretty decent laptop of it's age to the slowest computer in the world within an hour.

Anyone what the problem is, or do I need to give anymore detail?

A:Limited access to wifi and more for unknown reason (laptop)

Ok, now the Internet has fully stopped working and some apps crash when opened.

Okay, so I'm new to the forums.

When I connect to ethernet and use wifi simultaneously the wifi turns off and says No Internet Access. I am using a Dell Inspiron 1545.

Thanks.

The wireless dropping out may be a completely different problem but there is a Group Policy setting to enable both connections at start up.

Windows doesn't typically use both connections at once and it defaults to the faster connection if both are enabled which is usually Ethernet connection, but if you want the wireless to connect automatically at boot up and stay connected with the Ethernet connection there is setting you need to disable in Group Policy.

Go to start/run type in gpedit.msc. Navigate to the following location

Administrative templates/Network/Windows Connection Manager . The setting Minimize the number of simultaneous connections to the internet.

For more than one connection to stay connected reliably this setting needs to be disabled.

I've been using this Policy to test wireless signals with my Ethernet connected and it does work so that both connections are enabled at start up and they both stay up.

I had to connect the wireless manually on start up most of the time before I changed this setting.

If the wireless issue persists, then please to install InSSIDer from the link and post the results here so I can take a look at the wireless landscape in your area.
