Windows 8.1 tile apps give me Internet connection errors

Q: Windows 8.1 tile apps give me Internet connection errors

Windows 8.1 tile apps, no issues on desktop, give me Internet connection errors. Apps like euronews say that I am not connected to the Internet and I am. I also get "internal error" on other apps. Anyone can help?

A: Windows 8.1 tile apps give me Internet connection errors

You may want to try Stardock Software's Metro Mix. It will allow you to run Metro Apps from the desktop. The problem with Metro. Is that it uses a mix of Javascript & html5. A lot of apps in the Microsoft App store are poorly written. So in turn, you have issues.

Some have found that the problem is also as simple as the third party Internet Security or Firewall software that they may be using. See metro apps can not connect to internet! for further help.

I'm personally going to try to make this simple, and yet cover all of my problems in a small thread.

I updated windows 8.1 pro with wmc from store.

I had NO problems, received no error messages, had no dc's, the power didn't shut off, the download didn't stop .. literally nothing went wrong. After update everything worked fine. All the apps are downloaded and were working fine.

But,

After 2/3 months since updated, I suddenly noticed that every live tile / folder / app / game / setting etc. which were working fine, now not working.
When I clicked on any tile, nothing happened. It just went to a blank green screen because my background color is green. It appears on the left upper corner as opened but doesn't run. When I click, I am send back to Start Screen or Desktop. Even Store and Windows Setting stopped working. So, naturally i started checking the web for answers, but couldn't find a solution to the exact problem i was having. I saw countless posts of people saying "Just uninstall / re-install the apps" but at first, I couldn't get my App store app to run. Again, it was just blank after several minutes of waiting. I was able to download it after using the search bar menu on the right side of my computer, and was able to start installing some apps.
NEXT PROBLEM:
So i thought that everything was going to be ok, but then I ran into another problem where some of the apps wouldn't install, and I received an error message with the code/number of 0x80070002... Read more

Hi I am not sure if this belongs on this thread and I have seen possible solutions but I don't know if they are what I need for my issue.
I have a Windows 8.1 Desktop (HP) and not an upgrade from Windows 8 (I don't think so at least).
Every so often I can not open the tiles.
Instead it tries to open and maybe the top bar appears then it will return to the home page where the tiles and apps are. T
he Mail tile (Hotmail) is usually the one I open and that will either attempt to open but won't work or just not open.
I can get onto the desktop from the desktop tile and I have noticed the mail tile icon is on the task bar of the desktop. When I click on the icon it won't open.
I then try other tiles, including the live ones which are updating the news etc but they will not open. These icons also appear on the desktop tool bar.
I have only found that restarting the PC allows me to get the tiles/apps open.
Luckily each time I have restarted the tiles work as expected.

I have seen problems others have with tiles not opening and the issue seems to be something to do with going from Windows 8 to 8.1 and I bought the PC with 8.1 installed.
The issue occurred again on Sunday 9th November, the day before it was fine.
Before I tried to open the tile, there was a java update required and I ran that - not sure if thats connected to it.
With the icons appearing on the desktop although still not opening I am not sure whether the tiles are opening but not completely or it is something mor... Read more

Do like tiles use cpu when the start page is not visible?

A:Give tile cpu use?

I would suspect they do, but very little if so. It would show up as a process in windows task manager as one of the main CPU suckers if it used a lot. May be hidden behind another windows process

I upgraded yesterday and it took almost nine hours! I lost my internet connections but after another call for updates it was recovered..
My concern at present is that I have the "store" tile but cannot get to the "store" as it blips and goes to blue. Another thing is some of the tiles on the start screen have a white cross on a black circle. When clicked they warn you cannot access the app and should consult with the System Administrator to remedy. As I am the only user who do I consult with? If anyone can help me I would be grateful...

Thanks..

I have a Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2-1051F running Windows 10. I have a number of modern apps that refuse to open unless I am actively connected to the internet. Desktop (or legacy) apps open fine in airplane mode, but anything downloaded from the Windows Store will not. This even includes built-in apps such as calculator (?).

So far, I have tried:

1. running "sfc /scannow" in Command Prompt
2. running "WSReset.exe"
3. updating all drivers from lenovo

I also spent the better part of yesterday afternoon chatting with Contact Support, who at various points told me that the tablet was designed to work that way (um, no), that no Windows apps will open without internet connection (false), or simply ended the chat when it seemed like they were in over their heads.

has anyone else noticed this problem? I have tried to recreate it on my desktop (also running Windows 10) by unplugging my ethernet cable and then opening various apps, and it functions as expected - they will open and perform everything normally, unless specifically needing the internet.

Don't get me wrong, I understand that certain apps require Internet Access (Hulu or Netflix come to mind). However, for even calculator to not open without internet seems wrong.

Please let me know if i left any other pertinent information out!

Thanks!

I recently got laptop with windows 8. I notice that whenever I am trying to install a larger app from the Windows store, I cant browse the internet or use apps that require a connection. Even people on the same wifi network have the same problem, even if it is just me downloading the app. Is windows configured to use ALL of the bandwidth in order to install an app? Is there a setting where I can make it only use like half? I don't mind if it takes a little longer to install.
Thanks

A:Why does our internet connection stop working when downloading apps in Windows 8?

What is your wifi download speed.? And be aware there is a difference between the download speed given by your provider (mostly a max speed) and the actual speed you get ("including" distances to server, interferes etc)
If this is "low" then probably the downloading uses the total bandwidth.
If you open the task manager during the download you can see what the actual download speed is or use a app to check your download speed.

Okay well this is what happened in detail: i was playing a game when all of a sudden i lost connection to it along with all my other programs, aim, mozilla etc. I tried restarting my pc didnt work, tried restarting router AND modem still nothing. I did a system restore to 4 days ago and that worked... I just want to know if anyone has a idea what is wrong/could be wrong so incase it happens again.

I have read some other problems like this but i was just curious if mine was different since i did a system restore to fix it

A:Wireless connection works but does not give any internet privileges

Odds are that something in the registry got corrupted. Which is an easy bet to make since System Restore is mostly (but not entirely) a registry save/restore function.

Does anyone other than me think this would work for controlling the All apps screen?
It's nothing more than our Programs folder on the screen with all subfolders displayed.
Like others, I think we should have an option to have them all collapsed into the title bar. Or to pick which ones we want pinned to the All apps board. As well as the Start screen.

In example below

1.- I showed a customized All apps

2.- then installed Microsoft Works which gave a popout

3.-clicked the title bar ? made choice to pin Word Processor & Spreadsheet to Start screen & Not to hide them on the All apps screen

4.- Shows those 2 programs plus a tile saying 4 more programs available (Get Started, Database, Calendar & Portfolio)

A:All apps tile control

Yeah, that would make the "Apps" screen more user friendly.

Okay, so I don't have this problem anymore. Well, last night, I had noticed that there was no desktop tile and if I typed "desktop" on the start screen there was no app for it Also, "Change PC Settings" wasn't starting. My guess is that it did that because I had a really hard time uninstalling a program so I had to try going by means of registry editing. So I ended up refreshing my computer (from the installation disc since PC settings wasn't working ) Now everything is back to normal. So all I want to know is how I can prevent this from happening again.

Thank you,

To restore the tile and shortcut you may need to do an in-place upgrade repair install (see the Tutorial section where you can find instructions).

Hi

What is going on here? My apps worked fine yesterday and then when I shut down I had a windows update and now this morning again none of my apps are working. Most load to the initial page with the game or apps logo but refuses to go any further and like weather channel app there's pops up and says no internet connection.

I have a strong feeling it is from last nights update as it worked fine yesterday and few months back I had same issue and after I reported it it worked again so has to be related to that update last night.

Why is this constantly being broken??? It's annoying as all out!

Hello everyone,

How can I know which apps is using internet connection constantly even when I'm not on the internet? (For example, I'm sure the weather app requires internet connection)

Is there a way to "disable" them??

I don't want to exceed my bandwitdh :/

A:How can I know which apps is using internet connection constantly?

A firewall that controls outbound connections should work for you.  By blocking them with the firewall you would essentially disable them.

I do not have a firewall software program to suggest.  ZoneAlarm used to be the preferred software, back in the pre XP SP3 days.

I know posts have been circulating around this topic but none that directly address my needs. I just recently did a fresh install of Windows 8 onto a brand new SSD. I then set all of my documents to be on my traditional hard drive. Everything worked perfectly for about one day then my metro apps stopped connecting to the internet. I am on the internet currently using the desktop application of Chrome and all of my desktop applications connect to the internet. Additionally my computer tells me it is connected to the internet and troubleshooting identifies no problems.

Here's the problem all of my metro apps will not connect to the internet. The "Store" app says that my computer is not connected to the internet. The weather app opens but does not refresh, and most of my apps do the same thing. they have a constant loading symbol.

I have no antivirus installed. I did install PocketCloud Windows Companion VPN service so that I can access my computer with my tablet. I have scavenged all the forums and there seems to be no answer. Is this just a problem of Microsoft's?

Every time I run Avast scan it suggests I should give foreground apps cpu priority to improve performance. Is this true or just snakeoil to get me to buy that module to Avast? I know how to set prioroity for individual apps when running them using task manger but have never seen a setting to make that a permanent option. How does Avast make that a permanent option if you buy the add-on module?

Avast is always saying to turn off fast user switching to improve performance too. There is no option to turn it off, just an option in gpedit to hide the entry points for fast user switching so even if I hide them Avast still suggests turning off fast user switching. Why?

I used a few virus apps including a standalone app by mcaffe, malwarebytes rootkit remover, and MS windows malware removal tool. After this i noticed that when i start the PC it tried to connect and fails, but then about 3-5 minutes later it connects. I tried going back with sys restore to no avail, and there was only one restore point. The one suspicious thing is mcaffe left this thing called realprotect.exe on the system which runs at startup and i could not find it in the list of installed apps in cntrl panel or in msconfig's startup list. Even doing a search for the exact exe file in task manager yielded no results so I had to right click it in task manager and choose open file location. No way to uninstall it so i just deleted the folder, but still the issue with my internet connection continues. I tried using the connection troubleshooter but as always it can't find the issue. By the way, i used those apps as regular maintenance, not because the PC had any issues or reasons to believe it was infected. Any ideas?

Really weird situation. Never had anything like this happen before.
Windows 10. Fast Ring. Build 14959.

All of a sudden every time I click on any app it is asking me if I want to allow it to make changes. I am the only user on the PC so I am an admin. It just seemed to start a few days ago. Did a dism/restorehealth sfc/scannow no issues.

Also it's weird that when I boot up RB6 Siege it asks me to install Direct X every single time I play it.
Any idea what this could be?

this all started about 4 weeks ago..for some reason my screen started moving around when I was entering information, and it moved just as I was trying to open MSN email....a window popped with something about "disable" something, and I inadvertantly clicked on it and it has not worked correctly since then. the screen freezes and I get a message saying the "site not responding".

Also, I am having a problem getting connected to the internet through Windows Explorer 8....every time I click on it to log into my computer, it kicks me out and gives me this error message:

Does anyone know what that means and how to fix it? On recommendation by someone on this site, I did a system restore and it has partially worked, but it was suggested that I do a HJT log...I am not exactly sure how to run one to get someone to look at it. I recently upgraded my XP Home XP Pro onto my laptop. After doing so, I lost my dial up connection that I had set up. When I went to set it up again, it gave me a 711 error. I then followed Microsoft's Knowledge Base and got 2 more errors when I tried to start the Remote Access Connection Manager (Error 5) and Remote Access Auto Connection Manager (Error 1068). For the second one, I followed Microsoft's Knowledge Base, but it did not help since everything was turned on. Is there a way to fix this problem so I can have a dial up connection or a way to uninstall the XP Pro upgrade?

Thanks in advance

A:Internet connection errors in XP pro

This is typical of the weirdness that happens with upgrades. If you do a clean install of XP ( pro or Home) you will likely be able to set up the dial-up connections easily.

So i'm having some problems staying connected to my internet. On my desktop I continually get the Local Area Connection "A network cable is unpluged" popup. While just surfing it's not incredibly noticable but While gaming or streaming you can tell there is some interuption. On my laptop the connection just continually restarts it self and goes through Identifing and conecting then drops and starts over. Everything i have read about it was in relationship to IP issues with 169.xx I however don't seem to have that issue as my IP is 192.xxx. Any advice would be great thanks

A:Internet connection errors

Still curious if there is any information available onthe topic. I have read through the fourms and haven't seen alot in regard to my issue. Is is possible it is my gateway?

A:I think I give up.....look at all these errors

Hi debgraham, otherwise how does it seem to be running? Do you have CCleaner installed? What error message do you get when trying to install your Graphics drivers and where did you download them from? Windows should have installed the drivers if you have run all of the Windows Updates. Please right click the start flag and select device manager. Expand Display Adapters and tell us what you see listed there.

Unless you are having some particular problem, don't be that concerned with event viewer at this point. You will always show some errors there.

I have been using a Windows 8 RT tablet for 2 weeks. I have Hotmail and Gmail setup. When a new email arrives the live tile shows it and the number of new emails. But I cannot get it to make some audible sound when a new email arrives. Has anyone else done this? Also I cannot get my Roadrunner email to work with Windows 8 Mail. POP is not supported yet. So I am just forwarding my Roadrunner mail to Hotmail. Has anyone found a fix for this?

Recently did a restore to Win 2000 Pro after video crashed on my Dell laptop (Latitude 600) . Had to delete and reinstall the video driver.

Now can't set up an inet connection in wizard. When I'm in the internet connection wizard it goes to the point of naming the connection and then tells me the name is not allowed. If I attempt through Internet Options connections tab, I get a 711 error - Cannot Load Remote Access Conection Manager. Attempted to start remote access auto connection manager but get error 1068. Attempts to start remote access connection manager give error 5: access denied. Plug and play is enabled and started.

Can't access internet from that computer and don't have cd burning capability from the one I'm typing from. Any suggestions of how I can resolve this issue? I really don't want to do a clean install of 2000 as some of the software came bundled and I risk losing it.

Trust me on the following:
It's definitely not a RAM issue. Tested.
Some websites' downloads work fine, but I sometimes(quite rarely) disconnects from those websites' download servers.
Those websites with CRC errors(almost on every >50Mb RAR files, 90% occurrence rate) are the major file-sharing sites like Megaupload, Rapidshare, Hotfile etc.

The cables are connected perfectly. Double-checked.

The funny part is that I didn't have this issue previously with same computer and the same connection, same modem and router, exact same condition.

Please help, thank you very much in advance!

A:How to fix RAR crc errors caused by internet connection problem

the CRC is a means to verify the integrity of the download.
The original file has one and after the download completes, the dowload software compares
the internal crc to the one generated during the download, and barks if they're not equal.

Several tools (RAR, Zip) will do the same thing when loading the archive from the disk and
preparing to allow inspection or extraction.

If you get the CRC error, you did not receive a good download and must fetch another copy.

Why the CRC mismatch? Very hard to tell. Any DL using TCP should have been 'self-correcting' using the TCP protocol/retry, but any DL using UDP in an attempt to increase the transfer rate is brain-dead to start with.

Did you tweak any of the TCP parms?

Starting yesterday when I try to run applications that include video elements such as:

Windows Media Player 11
FRAPS
Corel Videostudio

and others various error messages appear.

These all take the form of "The application or DLL c:\windows\system32\x is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."

The specific DLLs include:

ddraw.dll and devenum.dll

I can no longer view movies or run software that has to do with video capture or editing. Media Player (11) says it doesn't have the proper codec, then freezes. Windows Movie Maker runs, but cannot import any video because it claims it doesn't have the proper codec.

I have tried deleting the dll's in question, then reinstalling DirectX. But DirectX says it is already installed.

DXDIAG shows no problems with directx.

I restored various restore points, but each time the problem persists.

OK, here's a new one on me, though I know that at least three of my friends and some people I've seen on-line have it, though not as bad as I seem to.

I've recently been playing WarCraft III, but like many people, it never seemed to want to read the CD whenever I started the game. I found that if I uninstalled and reinstalled the game, without uninstalling the save game data, it would work smoothly until I shut down my comp, after which the process would start all over again. Now it seems that I'm having the same trouble with a couple other games as well, games that I never had trouble with before. When I tried Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction, the disk no longer read. So I tried it with the original, non-expansion, Diablo 2 disk, and still no dice, same error. Figuring it must be some problem that Blizzard is having, I popped in Homeworld: Cataclysm, by Sierra, and got the same type of error.

I then tried all of my games, one by one, and it seems that these three are the only problem disks. All three will go as far as the autorun menus, but when I click on the "Play" button, the Blizzard games give me a "Please insert Play Disc" or similar error and Homeworld revs up the CD-ROM drive and then just quits the program. I can explore all of them in the drives through My Computer, so I know that XP is recognizing the drives.

All of the disks are scratch free and had been working fine up until I played WarCraft III. I've tried them in ... Read more

QUESTION: WHY CAN'T I ACCESS ALL WIN 7 FUNCTIONS IN THE NORMAL WAY, YET I CAN ACCESS THEM DIRECTLY BY A WORK-AROUND?

DETAILS:

* I recently found that I could not access the administrator functions for computer management on my home computer. For instance, when right clicking on the main "Computer" icon on my desktop and selecting "Manage" I would get an unspecified error.

* Going in through control pannel i could not access many system admin tools and when I try I get error of you may not "have the appropriate permissions" This applies to "Services" "Component Services" "Computer Management"
WORK AROUND: Today I found that I can open the ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS foder in Explorer directly and then right click on one of the management functions and select "Run as Administrator." Then it let's me in OK and I can control things. It's only the usual ways of accessing these controls that I can not now do.

NOTE THAT: this is my personal computer and I'm logged on as administrator, the only account on the system, AND it is telling me I can't access all the files on my own computer's hard drive that you normally use to manage win 7. It's not networked files I'm trying to use but my own Win 7 computer's hard drive, e.g. I get the error when I click on own Desktop Computer Icon and select "Manage."

I am new to Windows 8, and on the tile display, when I touch a tile, i.e. the weather tile, a black screen appears with Accuweather.com in the middle; this lasts about a second, then the tile window display reappears. I would expect that the Accuweather.com website would appear, but it never does. Other tiles act the same way, but some apps are executed when the tile for them is touched.
Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong?

I've been having a ton of problems since my boyfriend clicked on an email he thought was authentic from an ebay fraud. Web pages have been slow to not responsive, I kept getting errors about remote server refusing connections, the lan service kept showing proxy server settings and when I would uncheck the box, it just went back again and the check reappears. I tried a system restore and when it came back on it was doing something with new settings and there was never a box or anything with an option to make new settings from the restore. I've done this a few times before and never had settings load like this did. Since then everything seems to have problems. Also, I cannot view the wireless adapter properties because it says I don't have administrative privileges which is what I sign in under I think and also when I click on the show characters under the password it never shows it now just makes the check disappear. I ran hijack and this is what I got:

Hi,

As the post title suggests, I am having trouble with the modern apps and connectivity. It feels like half my computer will connect to the internet, and the other half won't. Desktop apps like Chrome, Steam, Outlook, iTunes etc. all connect to the internet fine, but any of the Windows apps like Xbox, Store and (most frustratingly) Settings will not connect.

In my network and sharing centre in the control panel it says 'You are not connected to any networks' - but in the system tray, and in the settings app it shows me as connected to my home wi-fi. I am on a desktop, and using a USB wireless adapter. I don't think the adapter is the problem as I have tried it on another desktop in our house on Windows 10 and it worked fine. Curiously also, when I click 'Adapter settings' in the control panel, it shows the wifi connection.

I've tried updating the drivers for the wireless adapter, both through the Windows update and adapter website but to no avail (and as I mentioned, it seems the adapter works fine elsewhere). I've updated manually to the latest Windows 10 Pro build, i've done a DNS flush, I've tried disabling firewalls and anti-virus, I've tried disabling startup apps, I've done a clean install of Windows 10 and still am unable to fix the issue.

If anyone has any ideas that might help that would be great. I'm happy to provide any more information if people need it.

Thanks very much.

A:Modern apps not connecting to internet, desktop apps work fine.

Is your DNS client service running on your system .

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.In the list of services, click DNS Client.Make sure that the Status column displays Started and that the Startup Type column displays Automatic. If the service is not set to Started or if the startup type for the DNS Client service is not set to Automatic, follow these steps:
Right-click DNS Client, and then click Properties. In the DNS Client Properties dialog box, click the General tab, and then click Automatic in the Startup type list.Click Start, click Apply, and then click OK.

Hi,

I've been struggling with this problem for a few days now. The problem is that I do NOT have internet access for firefox/chrome/dropbox/etc but i DO have internet access for IE and certain OS apps (like Network Troubleshooter). I've read and tried most of the typical solutions with no avail.

What I've Tried:
Safemode with Networking - same situation, I can use IE but not Firefox/Chrome/etc
Reseting Winsock (netsh winsock reset, etc) - didn't work, possibly just made matters worse?
Flushing DNS (ipconfig /flushdns, etc)
I do NOT have a special proxy, and neither firefox, nor chrome, nor IE are trying to use one
I have added exceptions in Windows Firewall, then just straight up disabled the firewall
I have Avira antivirus, but it does not contain any firewall features and no place that I can see to add any such exception
LSP-Fix.exe (I tried to fix the LSP registery, it found 1 problem from leftover Bonjour dll, and I've repaired it but its changed nothing)
I ran quick-scan on malwarebytes - found nothing
I ran checkdisk and found no errors
I have no system restore point
Also, with firefox, I hve tried it in safe-mode and created a new profile, but that hasn't changed anything. When I try to make a connection with firebug open, it says the request was "aborted"

Because native Microsoft software (IE, OS software) has no problem connecting to the internet, I'm just trying to figure out what bridge was burned between firefox/ch... Read more

Ok, so literally nothing was working - I did a "Repair Install" using my windows 7 cd. It took 2 hours, but when it finished up all of my networking was working So, for those of you who are having similar issues, as a last resort I'd give that a shot. Definitely read a few articles about what is required to successfully perform a Repair Install, as you don't want anything going wrong during that process.

About 4 weeks ago, for some reason, my screen started moving around whenever I was trying to enter information. Just as I was trying to open MSN email...a window popped up with something about "disable something in msn" and I inadvertantly clicked on it and my computer has not worked properly since....the screen freezes and I get a message saying "site not responding". It closes and I have to reconnect with the internet. Then it usually takes up to 5 or 6 tries before I can get connected again. I get this messgage " the instruction at "0x7c910b2c referenced memory at "0x72676F72 could not be written" or another that says "the instruction at 0x7c910b2c referenced memory at 0x000901dl" could not be written and another that says the same but the last number is "0x000901d7"

Does anyone know what that means and how to fix it?

Also, I have lost my Google toolbar and I had Verizon as my ISP but have not had it since 2005 when I switched to Comcast.

On recommendation from someone on this site, I have already done a virus scan, an anti-spy scan, and a malware scan and also a system restore. It has partially worked but I am still having most of the same problems as described above.

Someone gave me directions to run a HJT log which it attached below. I hope someone can help.

Since yesterday apps from Windows Store do not have internet access. All other "manually" installed applications work just fine. To test if it is really the Windows Store, I've downloaded some Apps from there and none of them seem to be able to connect, but still other Programms like Chrome, or whatever work.

Does anyone know what I should do or try?

Windows update can download updates but no other programs can access internet. I have tried plugging in wired reinstalling drivers and using an external wifi adapter all same results.
Internet explorer says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"
Google Chrome says "This webpage is not available"
Malwarebytes says when it tries to update "PROGRAM_ERROR_UPDATING (10054, 0, Connection reset by peer) An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host."
These errors occur in chrome and ie even when i try to connect to my routers gateway. I have tried to reset windows firewall using "netsh firewall reset". I have tried turning off my security software "Avast". I have ran avast boot time scan and full scan, i have also run malwarebytes full and flash scan all resulting in nothing found. However windows update can download updates.

Hi,

I'm wondering if someone could help with a problem I have with some apps on windows 8.

When I click on an app, for example the weather or sports app I get a message on the screen to say "you are not connected to the internet, please check your internet connection", however I am connected to the internet and can use some of the other apps fine.

I have done the following:

Checked firewall settings, the apps in question are set to allow through the firewall with both public and private ticked.

AV is AVG however I have refreshed my PC and the problem occurs without AVG installed.

Logged in as another windows user, same problem occurs.

Uninstalled/reinstalled the problem apps, same problem occurs.

The only thing I can think of is a complete reinstall of windows but just wanted to put the question out there in case there is something else that I can try.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey,

Recently a pdf that I had to download for class infected my computer and every few minutes an AVG resident shield alert would pop up. The three that would always pop up were luhe.sirefef.a and two variations of a trojan. Every time I would just click to automatically remove them and AVG would appear as if it had and then the same message would come again. I seemed to have successfully removed the malware with malewarebytes and hitman pro used in tandem, as the message has not come up again and my computer is running smoothly. However, now all of my apps seem to have no internet access. My internet browsers still have access, but all of the apps like Netflix, Windows Store, Weather, etc. do not. I wasn't sure what was corrupted so I reset some network settings via http://www.selectrealsecurity.com/fix-internet-connection and restart my computer but the problem still remains.

Thanks for any help.

For some reasons, unknown by me, i try to access multiplayer mode on my gaming apps that allows online access will not connect to the internet. It tells me that i am not connected to the internet when i am clearly connected to it. My internet is through router and it works fine; i can access my browser just surfing the web. Its just this specific thing that i desire to fix badly. Any help will take.

A:Windows Store Game Apps cannot connect to internet

It depends on each game. During the first run, if it tries to connect to an outside resource, your Windows firewall may block it. A dialogue box should pop up on your Desktop asking permission for that app to open up certain ports. Now, that's just your Windows firewall. Depending on your router type, it needs permission setup as well.

Give us the name of one or 2 games that you are trying to run.

Hi,

Windows 7 hangs EVERY-TIME I open any application that connects to internet. Chrome, IE, Outlook, VLC Player all have the same problem. This problem started appearing only since yesterday.

Its frustrating because these applications goes into 2+ minutes of non-responsiveness before opening. Also, at times, McAfee security center automatically stops. I tried all the below things, but no help:

1) Disabled security center completely, restarted the machine & tried - NO LUCK
2) Checked the Resource Monitor-all CPUs are 100%. Not sure how monitoring wait chain can help
3) Scanned disk for errors using CHKDSK - No issues
4) Tried in Safe mode with networking - Same issue

Running out of options and patience. Please help!!

Loads of Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Mahesh

A:Windows 7 hangs if I open apps that connect to internet

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

Uninstall McAfee and install MSE as a test.

If there is still a problem, work thru this tutorial:
Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup

And maybe:
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Last night I had my PC (XP Home) running just fine until I turned on my laptop (XP Pro) and it made my PC reboot. This isn't the first time that it has rebooted when my laptop turns on. I think it started doing this when I networked my computers.
When the PC rebooted, it started popping up a bunch of firewall messages asking me if I wanted to unblock programs from connecting to the internet. All the programs were ones that have always been allowed. The firewall must have reset somehow.
My anti-virus program told me that it couldn't connect to the internet (which has also happened a few times before)
When I opened Internet Explorer it went to the "The page cannot be displayed" page.
in the address bar it had "res://shdococlc.dll/DNSERROR.HTM#http://www.google.com/

I cannot connect to any websites unless I use their IP address.
I have no trouble connecting to the router, and none of the settings have changed there.
My other computers have no trouble connecting to the internet through the router either.
The network shares on both computers still work.

I have tried running the "Network Diagnostics for Windows XP" and it told me I had a problem with the Winsock provider catalog, and I let it reset the catalog to the default configuration. It didn't help the problem any.

I tried using WinSock Fix and it didn't help any either.
I also tried using System Restore to see if what ever was changed could be reversed.
After that I was able to... Read more

When searching in Google and I click on a link in the listing it typically gets re-directed. If I cut and paste the link address in a new window or tab it is ok. I often get warnings of attacks (dark red background in warning message)...also getting error messages of Bell Internet Connection errors however if I open a new tab or window, Google works fine. I have Microsoft Security Essentials and there have been flags indicating the need to remove things. It takes a very long time to start up the computer, sometimes a blank screen and end up having to shut down and try again.

Trying to fix a friends laptop that was pretty bad. Cleanup up various viruses\malware using avast, spybot, superantispyware & malwarebytes.

All of the above show clean now. Problem: EVERY single EXE that is run causes a pop window:
<APPLICATION.EXE> - Unable to Locate Component

This application has failed to start because msrorqlnllx.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

The funny thing is after hittinh OK the many times it asks, the apps run fine. I have searched the web for this dll and I get no hits at all. Any help would be appreciated.

Stew.

A:msrorqlnllx.dll was not found errors for all apps

Hi and welcome, this ought to help you out.Its not unusual to receive such an error after using specialized fix tools.A "Cannot find...", "Could not run...", "Error loading... or "specific module could not be found" message is usually related to malware that was set to run at startup but has been deleted. Windows is trying to load this file but cannot locate it since the file was mostly likely removed during an anti-virus or anti-malware scan. However, an associated orphaned registry entry remains and is telling Windows to load the file when you boot up. Since the file no longer exists, Windows will display an error message. You need to remove this registry entry so Windows stops searching for the file when it loads. To resolve this, download Autoruns, search for the related entry and then delete it.Create a new folder on your hard drive called AutoRuns (C:\AutoRuns) and extract (unzip) the file there. (click HERE if you're not sure how to do this.)Open the folder and double-click on autoruns.exe to launch it.Please be patient as it scans and populates the entries. When done scanning, it will say Ready at the bottom.Scroll through the list and look for a startup entry related to the file(s) in the error message.Right-click on the entry and choose delete.Reboot your computer and see if the startup error returns.

I believe I have registry errors but it could be a lot more. It started when I updated my paid version of Avast and after running SuperAntiSpyware full scan and doing a disk cleanup. Now many things don't work. I couldn't even do a HiJackThis. When I tried, it got as far as the HiJackThis.msi then gave me a blank screen. The following errors are sporadic, meaning they may work the first time but not the second or perhaps not even the first or third. There is no consistency. I sometimes get errors saying "insufficient system resources", or if I try to launch Google Chrome or MO Excel, it'll say XXX.exe not a valid command. I even tried doing a Disk Error Check and it came back almost immediately with "system is clean" without even going through the steps. RESTART does not work either. I have to log off and log back on again. And if I try to change my screen resolution, my screen will die and I will have to do a hard boot.

Any suggestions? I cannot afford to lose the data that I have.

My mom recently told me she was having troubles with her computer. Internet Explorer, control panel, Explorer, and some other applications will not run. Everytime I try, I get "This application has encountered an error and needs to close" message. I managed to get an Anti-virus scan going, and it picked up some virus', which many couldn't be deleted. I can't go to my computer, so I can't put HijackTHIS to a disc, and I can't go online to download it. I googled some suspicious processes, and here's what I know:

Prositefinder.exe (2 of them)
Prositefinderh.exe

And, when I try to end one, they keep popping up. I tried deleting from the registry, but they still came back.

EDIT: I finally got all the processes deleted at the moment, allowing me to on to open the apps, but I'm not sure if they'll come back. So I downloaded HJT, and ran a log.. here it is: Also if you could help me clean ALL the bad stuff out that would be great:

anyone seen this one?
on booting up 8.1, lenovo z410, the first few attempts to use IE11 from the desktop fail. "cannot open page".
connection troubleshooter produces nothing.

go to APPS > IE and it works fine.

after using chrome and the tile app for awhile, IE11-Desktop will gain coherency and start working.

is there a way to reinstall the desktop side?

this is a clean install with little/nothing loaded on it, about to be deployed for real work so its important.
I've never seen this issue before on 7/8 so kinda lost/bewildered

A:IE11 Desktop fails connection. IE11 Tile App succeeds

Maybe can not get that page immediately, try setting blank page for start-up. (about:blank) and than as a start page.

Hey all, I was wanting to install Mopy Fish and CodeBlocks DCDev R2 when I receive the following error:
Code:
The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) ir x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.
The programs always worked on 32bit XP Home, but now that I have x64 Vista Home Premium they don't work at all. Even when I enable compatibility for Windows XP SP2 on the programs and run them as administrator they fail to work. :|

A:Some old apps (MOPY Fish etc.) get not compatible Errors.

Nvr heard of Mopy fish (lol) but its prolly a 16 bit app. they "retired" support for 16 bit apps w/ Vista (x86 & x64). Took some of my favorite games too (oh how I miss your Grim Fandango, farewell, Day of the Tentacle...*sniff*)
Its kind of co-incidental tho that you have only posted 2 questions to this site and both of them can be resolved w/ the same tool, Virtual PC/Win XP mode, assuming you don't mind paying $200-300 more for the Pro & Ultimate versions of Win 7.
Otherwise I wish you luck, especially w/ the Funaccess point cause there is really no other way. now that I got it working I remembered the most important thing about it..
it was buggy & unreliable long before its drivers became obsolete.

Hey,
I'm new to the forum so i hope this is the right sub.

Anyway for 3 Days now I have a Soundproblem. Only windowssounds, like clicking, warnings and surprisingly the Windows Media Center (watching tv) seem to work. Anything else like Spotify, Firefox, games don't play any sound. They don't appear in the soundmixer either. my connected Soundsystems work, atleast i can hear the test sounds. I ran sfc /scannow multiple times always returning errors it can't fix. The last log is attached to this post.

I don't know how to fix these errors, alot seemed to be amd64 related does that mean it's a driver issue?

-Fecast

Edit:
Run Avast antivirus scan but came up with nothing
