Dell Tablet - Installing Windows 8.1 Enterprise

Q: Dell Tablet - Installing Windows 8.1 Enterprise

Hey Everyone,

I've recently acquired a tablet to pilot with my company. It is a Dell Latitude 10 ST2, and my issue is I'm trying to install and upgrade to Windows 8.1 Enterprise, but having no luck so far.

I have the 32-bit version of Win 8 Enterprise on a USB, and when I get to the "Installing Windows 8.1 screen" it get to 35%, and then gives a popup that the "Windows 8.1 Installation Has Failed". I was trying to see if there was a real error message or log to tell me what the issue is, but I haven't been able to locate anything yet. Keep in mind, I don't even make it to the following screen:

Can anyone offer me any assistance please?

Thanks in advance!

I have an archos 9 PC tablet and an old xp desktop running windows 8 enterprise edition (full activated version and not the evaluation version) and my thoughts are as followed based on a touch screen vs a non touch screen:On a tablet windows 8 is perfect. It is easy swiping to navigate and touch response is fast. Load up is faster than windows 7 starter (which the tablet came with) but with only one gig of ram it is still slow on booting up. Once it is fully loaded everything is fast in response. So all in all, on a tablet windows 8 gets a 9 out of 10 score. Now on an old desktop that runs a intel Pentium 4 chip set:On this desktop (which only has one gig of ram) boot up was faster than my archos 9. How that is I don't understand since this machine is at least 10 years old. Once booted up, navigation with a mouse it is hard to navigate cause my mouse only scrolls up and down, not left and right. So going through the metro ui is something to figure out, but maybe with a touch mouse it maybe different. I do not own a touch mouse but maybe one day I will. Till then i have to use the scroll bar at the bottom of the start menu to move around the screen. Now once in a program that scrolls up and down it works great. So all in all, on a non touch screen computer i give it a 2 out of 10 score. On either version:Trying to get to the hidden menu to shut down the computer on either device takes some time to get used to as well. I hate change and wish the old start menu was th... Read more

My job has a partnership with MS and we received a CD with Windows 7 Enterprise edition. Now I don't know if this is a complete OS or just a trial (it doesn't say trial/demo anywhere) so I'm assuming it's a complete OS.

There is only one CD and does not state if it's 64 of 32 bit. When I go through the install it does not let me select 64 bit (which I would like to install).

Did I miss something during the install? Did MS only send 32 bit copy?

Also can we install this copy on multiple computers? We have # of people that would like to test it but we are not sure if the same CD/copy will be able to be installed on # of computers (and if it will work long term).

Please help,

Hi everyone.  Need some help installing Windows 7 x64 enterprise in a EliteBook 840 G3 . The installation disc is not recognizing the internal HDD (in the bios is recognized without problems). I´ve tried to attach the AHCI drivers for intel chipset in the installation disc trhougt Windows AIK. But the hdd is still not recognized.  Has anyone had the same problem?

A:Installing Windows 7 x64 Enterprise | Elitebook 840 G3

Hi: Intel removed USB 2.0 chipset support from the Skylake chipset.  This means that that normal USB or DVD installs for windows 7 will not work.    The Microsoft Windows 7 ISO doesn't have the native USB 3.0 drivers either.   So you have to add the USB 3.0 drivers into the Windows ISO.    Intel came through on this one.  They have a utility that does all the work for you. Run the above utility and point to your USB Installation media and windows 7 should install. There is a readme on the above link for instructions on how to convert your DVD into a bootable usb installation flash drive.

My corporate office has told me that we will be using Dell Precision 5510 laptops in the future and our office uses Windows 7 Enterprise because we need bitlocker on them.  Dell has a fully functional Windows 7 Pro disc which I can download and install
with no issues.  The BIOS is configured for legacy and the drive is configured in AHCI mode when I do the installation.
If I attempt to install directly from our Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise disc from Microsoft as part of our enterprise agreement, I get the error "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing.  If you have a driver floppy disc, CD, DVD, or USB flash
drive, please insert it now."  This error happens because I have a Skylake based laptop with only USB3 (no USB2).  When I attempt to inject the proper drivers into the install.wim and boot.wim files that are in the sources folder I no longer
get this error, but the installer cannot see the hard drive unless I change the bios to UEFI and RAID.
Even though the windows installer can now see the hard drive, I cannot install to it.  I get the error "Windows cannot be installed to this disk.  The computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk.  Ensure that the disk's controller
is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."
I have attempted injecting the MS KB2990941 and KB3087873 into the disc since these are supposed to add NVME support to Windows 7.  I change the BIOS back to legacy and... Read more

I bought a HP laptop via the internet and it came with windows 10 enterprise (no idea why) The problem with enterprise is that it will not install any updates, it keeps telling me to contact the system manager. If there is a solution for that I can keep the enterprise version. Any suggestions?
Otherwise I would like to downgrade to Windows 10 professional or home. What are the options for that?

Hi, I am trying to completely wipe my system and reinstall windows, only I don't have the CD. I've looked it up, and it seems relatively straight forward, I just need to save the iso file for the version of windows I'm using to a flash drive and run that to reinstall. The problem is I am running (and only have a key for) Windows 7 enterprise (Version 6.1 Build 7600) 32 bit, and the only downloadable iso file I can find for the enterprise version is the 90 day trial. I don't want the trial though, I want the entire version. Does anyone know where I can find an iso file for enterprise that's the full version, not trial? Or am I supposed to download the trial and put my key in somehow making it a full version? Please help!
edit: I should add that I want to reformat the computer (I don't have anything I want to save, want to put it back to factory standards), not just reinstall windows.

A:Reformating/installing Windows 7 ENTERPRISE (Full, Not trial!)

first you say you don't have a key then you say you do have a key, I'm confused...

Anyhow, if you do in fact have a valid key the eval or trial version should activate for you.
You may have to use the phone in feature the first time. That's not incredibly abnormal though.
You should be okay just using the iso download directly from MS.
If you wind up talking to a live person just tell them the truth. Don't make up stories.
If this is a laptop you may want to look at your documentation to make sure you can't just press a few buttons at the right time and have it restore itself to factory state. (as many of them can do that)

I'm an IT new guy, and I am attempting to install Windows 7 Enterprise on 3 new Dell Precision 3510 laptops via USB on account of our PXE boot image servers currently not loading task sequences. I have an image I pulled from our archives and created a bootable USB drive. I make it past the language selection screen and get the CD/DVD driver missing error. I have already edited the boot.wim and install.wim files to include the correct USB 3.0 drivers, both manually and with a handy tool called NTLite. NTLite shows the drivers as found for all USB devices. The problem persists and I'm at a loss as to where to go from here. Any help would be appreciated!
Some additional info that might help:
-The BIOS has no option to disable USB 3.0
-The USB drive is fancy and has a light, which lights at boot, during the "Windows loading files" screen, etc. BUT stops lighting after the error
-I've tired switching USB ports before and in between the errors
-I've tried a docking station to force USB 2.0
-No optical drive, can't boot to SD card, no external optical drive handy (would be USB anyway)

I own a new Dell 5510, and i simply cannot return from Hibernation.
I'll provide as much information as i can, i assume you'll ask questions and guide me to do things so i will answer and add them to the main post to save others the trouble of going through everything.

I suspect the issue has something to do with the M.2 SSD, it is connected to the PCIe (By default from Dell) which leads to multiple issues, such as not being identified by Acronis.
These two images show what happens when i try to return from hibernation:
Booting after Hibernation
After choosing "Continue with system resume"

The only progress i've made so far is noticing that making changes to things that are SOMEHOW related to hibernation will allow me to perform hibernation untill i restart the machine.
Example 1: Going into the bios and setting "Block sleep (3)", then booting the computer, i can go in\out of hibernation untill a reboot.
Example 2: Going into Device Manager, uninstalling "Microsoft ACPI-Clomplient control Method Battery", then clicking "Action -> Scan for hardware changes", the computer installs the exact same version/build of the driver - hibernation works untill a restart.

Dell has no idea how to fix this, i've spoken to their specialist and they said they will returnto me once they have an answer.
What can i do in order to solve this strange issue?
Thank you!

Hi all,

I have a used Widows Surface tablet that I got off of my friend who never really used it much. It's an older model (says Model 1516 on the back) but it's in great shape and has been reformatted back to factory settings.

The System Info page is showing Windows RT 8.1 as the OS.

When I run Windows Update, I get a list of about 60 updates that need to install. When I try to install them, they look like they're working, but then they undo the install and present me with the message, "Some updates were not installed. Error(s) found: Code 8024200D."

It does this whether I update all at once, or if I try to run each update separately. I've tried rebooting the system, I've tried running the updates one at a time, I've tried running the DISM which I read to do online. I just can't get any updates to install.

I did get a CBS logfile from the DISM, and there are "errors" in the log, but I have no idea how to go about addressing them. I tried to attach that file here, but it says the filesize is too large. the CBS log is about 50mb. I can break it into smaller chunks, or copy/paste relevant bits if anyone thinks it can help.

Please let me know!

Hello all!

I recently received an HP Slate 500 from a friend of mine who had installed Ubuntu 10.04 onto it. Being unfamiliar with Ubuntu, I am wanting to install Windows 7 Home Premium onto it. Unfortunately, I have no idea what I'm doing. After researching the forums, I've tried to boot the tablet from a USB Stick, but for whatever reason it's booting straight to the Ubuntu desktop without even noticing the drive. I've made sure that the BIOS is set to boot the USB drive first, but still no dice. Any advice?

Thanks in advance,

A:Installing Windows 7 onto an HP Slate 500 Tablet PC over Ubuntu 10.04

You have to set the boot device PRIORITY to boot from your usb stick 1st, not the boot disk sequence. That can be left to boot from the hard drive 1st. After the 1st reboot during the install you have to change the boot disk priority back to the hard drive 1st again. If you don`t it will keep booting from the usb over and over. How do you plan to activate 7 ?

A:How install windows 8.1 to Dell tablet from scratch

Do you want to make a recovery media? This is where you would make a copy of your windows installation files into a bootable media. It's useful in case you want to reinstall windows. Create installation media for Windows 8.1 - Windows Help You mention you have a tablet, so it does not have a CD/DVD drive. Because it lacks one I recommend creating a bootable USB Drive instead. If you still prefer to create a disc media over USB device you will need to buy an external DVD drive.

If you have any further questions or this is not what you wanted to do let me know.

I've been running Windows 7 Ultimate RC x64 (Build 7100) on my Latitude XT and it's been running great. I previously had some issues with the pen not working with the BETA, but all of that is fixed in the RC. All of the current Vista x64 XT drivers work on Win7.

My specs are:

Intel LV7600 1.2Ghz Dual-Core Processor
3GB of RAM
ATI Radeon x1250
64GB Samsung SSD drive

Booting up into Windows 7 is extremely fast, probably due to a combination of win7 and the SSD drive. I often run dozens of IE and Excel windows and it multitasking speed and load capabilities are pretty impressive.

Multimedia performance is decent, it scored low for AERO, but I was able to play 720P x264 files perfectly without any lag even though its only a 1.2Ghz dual-core processor. Unfortunately, it cannot handle 1080P x264 without A/V Desync.

My only quip is that the multi-touch feature could be improved. Although it could be a Dell hardware limitation rather than Windows 7. Otherwise, having a touch tablet is very convenient with Windows 7. The on-screen keyboard is a lot bigger and easier to use, and many of the touch features have been improved.

I programmed my fingerprint reader so I never have to type in the annoying and long domain passwords.

I tried out the Windows XP Mode, it's essentially a virtual PC session of Windows XP, with all the hardware being shared and working by default. It also maps your local hard drives by default. I had to enable the virtualization option from BIOS before... Read more

Can anyone comment on this and confirm that this "feature" is fixed in Windows 8? I'd really like to get a tablet on our network but without the ability to encrypt the network password it's a dead end. Is there a way to make this happen in Windows 7?

Hi All,

So I have a little bit of a problem that I've tried to fix myself but got nowhere. I was given a Dell Vostro 220 running Windows 7 Enterprise (I assume 64bit) that has university settings all over it. Basically, I can't log in because I would need a university account and would have to be connected to the university server.

That's really all I can get out of this computer. I'd really like to be able to log in and just use it, but I can't because of the Enterprise settings.

So, if anyone has any ideas, I'd really appreciate a hand.

Thank you!

A:Restoring Dell Vostro running Windows 7 Enterprise to factory settings

Hmm, that is a bit of a problem. Unfortunately the Win7 Enterprise download was closed. So you cannot get an iso. Unless you have a recovery partition on the PC, it will be difficult. With a recovery partition it would be easy.

Dell Venue 8 5830 Pro cameras are not working.
I have installed the Windows 10 Anniversary version twice but I cannot get the cameras to work at all. For the installation, I have managed to use an external USB flash drive to upgrade with no Internet updates during the process. After several boots later, the tablet appears to be OK except for the camera app. I have looked and checked there is no problems in the Device Manager. (I should have wrote down the error number, I was using the tablet to check for the errors)The error led me to the following website:
It was suggesting that my antivirus might be at fault. I went ahead and disabled the antivirus to test this suggestion, but the result is still the same, no cameras. I have a real doozy hereMy tablet - Dell Venue 8 Pro - was having a lot of issues and I was also running out of space so I decided to factory reset it (which I have done many times before). It got to 64% and it was stuck there for over 3 hours. I then made the foolish decision to hold the power button so it would turn off and then back on with the hope the install to get going (I realize that was not logical at all). It kept giving me a prompt saying it got interrupted. pressing either of the available buttons would cause the device to restart and show the prompt again and again. So I decided to hold the power button again. Now my device is in an infinite boot loop where it shows the Dell logo for about 10 seconds, then the dell logo shifts about a half inch downwards, then it flashes the windows 10 installation percentage screen (64%) and quickly turns off and repeats the process indefinitely. I don't think there is a solution for this because I really got it screwed up. But if there is anything that I can try please tell me!message edited by noside19907

Hello to all,   I recently did a clean reinstall of Windows XP (Home) on my Dell Dimension 2350. All went fine. Now I need to install the correct drivers. I have the Dell Resource disc and this is where the problem starts.    As noted elsewhere, after the reinstall the screen display of the Resource disc is as it would be in "Safe Mode". I was aware of this. As such, the Resource disc Search Criteria screen was a bit larger than the monitor screen. I was able to size it to fit the screen but this is really not the problem it is the following: The Search Criteria options I have from the drop down menus (on screen) are as follows:System Model:   All, Dimension C521, DXC061, Dimension DXP0G1, Dimension E521, DM061, XPS710    (Which, if any, do I pick?)Operating System: (I think I got this one)   All, Windows XPTopic:   (Maybe this one too)   All, Applications, Dell Diagnostics, Diagnostics, Drivers, Utilities   For the life of me I cannot figure out the exact drivers I am to install*. Windows XP only appears in the Operating System menu. I pretty much know the install order but as I said, I'm a bit confused about selecting the correct drivers from the disc. This computer is not connected to the internet at the moment so I can't download and use any sort of driver detection program. Other searches have confused me further and have provided no specific answer to this problem.&nbs... Read more

A:Installing drivers after Windows XP reinstall on Dell Dimension 2350 using Dell Resource disc

You need, in installation order:

Chipset driver
Video driver (depends on which video card)
Audio driver
Network driver (depends on which you have)
Modem driver, if you use a dialup modem

Go to the Support page and put in your Service Tag. It should give you the drivers you need. You can download them on any PC and copy onto a USB stick for installation on the 2350.
You only need the applications, if you actually use them (eg, Roxio, Jasc Paintshop, etc).
Then install your antiviral software and get online to the Microsoft Update site for all the patches and updates.
Keep in mind that XP is no longer supported by Microsoft and they stopped releasing security fixes for XP and IE9, more than 1 year ago. So they're both full of security holes and put your personal data at risk.

I have upgraded my X201 Tablet to Windows 10 32bit. As far as I can tell, everything is working, including the WACOM drivers and touchscreen.  Wireless has worked perfectly so far, not sure about Bluetooth as I don't use it. My only issue is that the buttons on the display do not work. The power button located on the display does work. I tried installing the Tablet Button Driver II and it will go through the install but the buttons do not work.  This is the download link: The document claims Windows 10 compatability and was Last Updated :08 Jun 2015. On inspection, all the files extracted are dated from 2012 and when trying to manually run the software Windows throws up an error that the software is not supported on this PC.   I removed and reinstalled and noted that the driver information page when running the installer does NOT have Windows 10 listed as a supported system. My assumption is that the driver that they have linked on the download page is NOT the most current driver and is infact the driver for Windows 7 from 2012. Does anyone know how to contact Lenovo to get the correct driver posted to the page, or know of an alternate source to try and find it?

I am new to this site so I hope I have picked the right forum. I work online from home and recently upgraded to vista x64. - My previous XP Pro crashed so I bought a new system.

A lot of the appls that I use are 32bit and will not work on my pc. I got round this by installing a kvm to a steam powered laptop. Ideally I would like to run virtual pc and load XP Pro as an image.

When I tried to download Virtual PC, I found that it is not compatible with Home Premium so I have to upgrade. My son offered to take me onto his Vista x64 enterprise licence but I have a couple of questions before I do that.

I would like the option to back out of the enterprise edition and revert to my own licence if necessary. When I got this PC it didn't come with any system discs, only a factory image on a partition. I have since created recovery disks for it.

Are the recovery discs what I need to restore to the original configuration?
If not, what is the correct strategy to take?

many thanks in anticipation

A:Installing enterprise edition

As long as you don't wipe your recovery partition, you can just revert to your image and license by doing a restore.
To answer your question, yes the recovery discs are what you need to restore the original configuration.

The only thing about Home premium to enterprise, you lose the media functionality (Media center, media center extenders, HD movie maker, etc.) As long as you're not going to need these then you're set. Otherwise, you may want to go to ultimate.

Hope that helps.

My dell xps 15 9550 currently has my works enterprise build win 10 on it. Although to get it to boot afterwards it had to be set to AHCI mode vs the factory config RAID. Is there a way to install through pxe and support RAID on the 9550? Are 9550s set to RAID to take advantage of the newer NVMe? I did notice some differences on the benchmarks I did under AHCI and RAID.

Hi! So I've bought a new laptop along with a builtin (diskless) Windows8; all drivers for the laptop were included also, I think. I've been using this for about 2 months now and even upgraded to 8.1. Yesterday, after I logging in to windows, all I got was a black screen with a movable mouse pointer. (my stupidity impulse starts here) After searching for workarounds, I decided to download the Windows8.1 Enterprise Evaluation OS from windows and used (burned the ISO file to some CD and used that for booting) it to fully reformat my laptop then afterwards, revert it back using my built-in windows.
After I've done reformatting using the Evaluation version, I couldn't manage to reformat again using the builtinOS. I tried restoring windows but it always asked for the CD I used to reformat. Now I have no drivers installed, my OS expires in less than 90 days, and I have no idea how to fix this.
Does anyone know how I can use my builtinwindows to reformat my laptop?

A:Trouble after installing Win8 Enterprise Evaluation

What system have you got? Did you make recovery disks or just reformat your drive without making any backups at all?

Depending on your situation you may be able to retrieve your key from the bios and use this to download windows again. Possibly. If not you'll have to ask your manufacturer for disks which you may have to pay for.

What's with all the red incidentally?

Greetings all,

Yes I know the title is nuts, but according to here I know the RAM part can be covered:
Install Windows 7 on Computer with Less than 512MB RAM

Now, here's my question - have an old Gateway Solo 9100 with a PII @ 400 MHz with 384 MB of RAM (max) and a 160 GB HDD. Problem is it suffers from an 8.4 GB limit, i.e., the C:\ will only be 8.4 GB or so, but the rest of the drive will be under E:\.

So, any suggestions on installing this? Can it be done? I know I'm nuts but hey I like a challenge!

I do have a Win7 Enterprise SP1 32-bit disc if that helps.

Our company is currently in the process of migrating from XP to Windows 7 Enterprise (32 bit). I am the lab system administrator for Chromeleon 6.80 chromatography data system. We recently got the newest service release (SR11a), which is Windows 7 compatible and are trying to get it installed. Within moments of starting the installation, it is killed by the error shown in the attachment. In case the attachment doesn't go through, the text is:

Error number: -2147418113Component: CurrentUser

File Name:

I have local admin rights to the system and am running the setup as administrator. I have even tried unencrypting the hard drive (BitLocker). I have been in contact with the vendor, but have yet to find the cause. Our current best guess is that something in our standard corporate image is causing the conflict. We're soon going to start running out of XP machines to run the program on>

Does anyone here know what may be causing the error and how to fix it?

Thank you

Hi eetnoyer, welcome to 7F

Is the Lenovo in your system specs one of the machines you tried to install Chromeleon on?

If so you can try looking in Event Viewer, type/copy/paste dcomcnfg into the search or run box (preferred), then look in Event viewer. Check all the Folders, and sub-folders especially Administrative events.

My Microsoft Word would not open, so I decided to uninstall and then reinstall MS Office 07. Every time I try to install it, the green installation progress bar hangs at the same area (about 80% complete). It never moves or finishes from there. I've even left the program to install while I sleep, giving it several hours to finish installation, but the progress bar remains at the same place.

I never get an error message or anything. The only way I get get the installation to cancel is if I terminate it through Task Manager.

I've tried using Microsoft Fix-It and other programs to remove Office completely and start from scratch. I've used CCleaner to get rid of any Office-related registry keys that may be hanging around. Nothing has worked.

My OS btw is Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate.

I also ran an sfc to see if a system file could be preventing Office from installing completely but it found nothing.

There are no viruses or spyware on this computer after running a virus scan and a Malwarebytes scan.

A:Office 2007 Enterprise will not finish installing

Try disabling your antivirus software temporarily

Also check the cd for scratches and clean if necessary.

It won't recognize my keyboard if I unplug the CD DRive and plug it (the keyboard) in... but if the keyboard is plugged in during BIOS startup BIOS recognizes it. Hi Guys,

I have an old Motion M1400 tablet PC (circa 2001). I'd like to try 8 on it but I have hit a snag. A little while back the proprietary (Thanks Motion) hard drive connector broke. Being the geeky hacker type that I am I internalised one of the USB ports and ran Ubuntu happily from USB.

Now you can probably see my problem coming! The installer doesn't recognise the USB drive as something it can install to. I've tried making a driver which spoofs Windows into thinking its an internal drive rather than a USB one but 8 won't load the driver saying its incompatible. Here's the tutorial for that: USB Powered Gadgets and more..
Any help would be greatly appreciated, it's really frustrating since the touchscreen works perfectly! Maybe someone has a portable workspace image I could nab? (Or not since I don't think it's in the dev build)

[UPDATE] OK a bit of research later has turned up this article:

Creating Windows 8 To Go on a 16 GB USB-Stick ? Borns IT- und Windows-Blog

I haven't tried it out yet as I've got a busy week but I thought I'd post it incase someone comes to this post looking for a solution.

A:Installing onto a tablet with a USB Drive as a HDD

@grindboy: As the author of the article you have linked, I can state that Windows To Go created from Windows 8 Consumer Preview is just sufficient for a short test, but won't keep users happy. I wrote it in the comment section - first of all, there are some issues with thumb drives ( I will write a separate article about that issue - it has something to do, how MS uses USB filter drivers in Windows).

But the major point that drove me away from Windows To Go: The CP version doesn't allow to install updates or drivers (and this is worse, because graphics drivers are needed on most devices to recognise correct sreen resolution) - and there is no pc restore and pc refresh at all.

I have a Tablet PC (Toshiba Protege) that currently has Windows Vista Business on it. If I clean installed Windows 7 Business onto it, would all of the functions of the laptop, such as the fingerprint scanner, ability to write on the screen, and so on, still function properly? Would there be any significant functions that wouldn't work anymore?

Thanks in advance.

A:Clean Installing On A Tablet

Some functions might not work correctly after install. You may need to install drivers. The good thing is 7 is much better at finding drivers on it's own, and if it doesn't you can install drivers from Vista. So if Toshiba has the drivers on their website or you have a disc with them you should be fine.

Hi everyone, thanks for any guidance you can give on my BSOD issue.

The system is a Dell Latitude E7440 notebook and I'm using a PR02X docking station connected to two Dell 24" monitors via DVI.

Please see the attached DM Log Collector zip. I've been trying my best to isolate the cause of the different driver errors, but there's not a clear pattern.

Things I've tried:
- Malware scan
- (embedded Win8.1) Windows Defender updates
- Updated RAID, graphics, chipset drivers.

Seems to happen twice daily, usually after coming off of display sleep (not system sleep, that's turned off). The silly Win8.1 bsod screen usually tells me that the driver at fault is "igdkmd64.sys", but further investigating using BlueScreenView shows that it's a mixed bag:

igdkmd64.sys, rdbss.sys, iaStorA.sys, even NETIO.SYS.

Kind-of feels like a hardware issue, but I really don't know. The system is a month old.

I have a need to run my business contact management/database program on a highly portable device like a 8 to 10 inch tablet if at all possible. I do not want to carry around a heavy/bulky/not quick to turn on and access laptop or notebook. So a tablet would be great for my situation.
I run a small business and use a program called Sage Business Works software. I just need to be able to run it totally offline and as a contact management and data inquiry device as I take phone orders while in car or away from my office.
I was wondering if there is a tablet type device that I could install and run my software. It would have to install from a cd to usb connection via some sort of dongle if I could actually install and run this program on a tablet.
Im probably leaving out many details here as to what is possible with this older x86 program's possibility of running this way, but please help me figure out what possibilities I may have. I just do not want to carry around a large device like a netbook/laptop.

Hey guys, I have a question before it is too late to return my tablet. I have a 64 gb Venue and it is intel atom bay trail processor. I was playing Far Cry 2, and had to alt-tab out to use my trainer program. It stalled a few times alt-tabbing, and I had to go to Start, Switch Users with windows 8 a few times to log out and come back in and restart the game.

Anyways, after alt-tabbing too much, I must have hiccuped the pc and the heat was too much, and it shut off from overheating. I panicked and let it cool for a while, but first I turned it on and ran HWMonitor. I will upload a screen, but it shows a temperature of 191 degree Celsius which is outrageous. This thing was very very hot, it took ten minutes or so and it still felt a little hot.

Anyways, also, from the sleep state, I tried to log in and when I typed my correct password, it said there was not enough resources to log in another user. I tried and after the third time it logged me in. Is this resource problem because of the heat and things were acting funny, or is it because I went to Start, Switch User a couple times to un freeze my game from alt-tabbing.

The tablet works fine, but that 191 degrees bothers me. I played Far Cry 2 for a half hour just now, with the trainer, and all was fine.

Should I return it because it overheated and had the error logging in, or are these known issues? I have another week to consider keeping this. I know the thermal shut off is designed to prevent damage, b... Read more

A:Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet question

by the way, this screen shot is from today, not when I overheated it. for some reason, the 191 goes away and comes back. if i reset values or shut down, it always still comes back to 191, so it can be an error with HWMonitor. I used this screen to show the 191, but the time it overheated, the processors were much hotter.

This screenshot if after a half hour of playing Far Cry 2, so that is what these temps are from.

Called the Mini 5 or the Streak, the new Dell tablet is looking at coming out soon on AT&T in the late summer. However, this new tablet will debut first in Europe rather than in the United States.
With a size of a Sony PlayStation, this portable Streak can be an iPad competitor with its 5-inch capacitive display screen, a 5MP camera at the back, a separate front-facing camera that can be used for video conferencing, a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, WiFi and 3G connectivity and Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz processor.
This tablet will run on the latest Google Android operating system version 2.0 or higher. Also, Dell offers that this tablet can make calls via a SIM card option.

Hello I want to reformat an e-machines computer but the only windows installation cd I have says only to use it on Dell computers (it came with a Dell computer). My question is what will happen if I use the Dell CD anyway because I don't want to spend the hundred(s) dollars to buy another one?

Also the reason I'm reformatting it is because of virus damage including an inaccessible cd drive. Would re-formatting it fix the inaccessible cd drive problem? I'm still able to access cds by booting from them so I assume that will work. The problem is the drive doesn't show up in My Computer anymore and nothing happens when I insert a CD.

Well the OEM disks like from Dell, Compaq etc are all re-written for the particular computers processors that they are made for. Trying to install them on another manufacturers computer is a total waste of time. Your best bet would be to purchase one of the right ones by calling the manufacturer of the computer and ordering a restore or recovery disk set from them it is a lot cheaper.

Please do not ask me the price I do not work for any of them....

I want to purchase Windows 7 and upgrade my PC from Windows XP. In the past, I tried using freshly installing Windows XP with a retail Windows XP disc and it couldn't find my HD to partition during the beginning installation. I'm nervous that will happen again.

I don't suppose anyone has installed Windows 7 on a Dell XPS Gen 5? I have no problem doing a fresh install but, before I buy it, I'd like to know that it'll work.

Also, which retail version of Windows 7 should I get? The upgrade?

We have a Venue 5130 Venue Pro tablet.  Its about a year out of warranty.  I noticed recently that the battery pack had expanded and was expanded from the tablet casing so it wouldn't shut.  I bought a replacement battery (not cheap) but only not started researching what the problem might have been and I can see that other people have had issues with their tables.  The old battery pack has expanded to a worrying extent - and since removal appears to have expanded further.
Advice online seems to be to NOT try recycle this and to treat it carefully as its unstable.  Not sure what to do it with so?   If the battery packs are liable to being unstable how can they be installed in tablets to begin with.  Reading online it would appear that there are issues with such batteries if they are overcharged.  I don't know if that was the problem in my case.  All I know is the batter packy is swollen up to an unreal extent.  See Photo below.
Another problem is Dell Customer Support doesn't appear to be contactable in a tangible way after the 12 month service period is up.  Negotiating the Dell website looking for a way to talk to a human about the problem is frustrating as everything leads to dead-end options, particularly at the weekend.  Not happy with Dell hardware and not happy so far with Dell service
A dissatisfied customer,

A:Dell Venue Tablet Swollen Battery

Most computer shops and most municipal solid waste sites will take back swollen batteries for disposal.   It isn't uncommon for lithium ion batteries to swell when their end of life approaches, just as ordinary alkalines will leak if they're left in a device when they've been used up.  Don't puncture the swollen battery - simply send it off for recycling with a location that can deal with disposing of it.

Hi all;

I know this question gets asked a lot (yes I have searched the forums), however none of the previous posts have been particularly relevant to me. This is my first post, so here we go:

I recently won a competition where the prize was Windows 7 Ultimate (full, not upgrade, version). I also just bought a new Dell Studio XPS desktop (please see the specs. in my profile... if you can) which came pre-loaded with Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) (OEM version with no disc, of course). My question is this:

I want to (clean) install Windows Ultimate onto the new Dell PC. Will I run into any problems in doing this? I basically also want to get rid of all the Dell crap and 3rd party software that came with the computer, and set it up the way I want it. I have heard that Win 7 will install all my drivers automatically, so would I be right in saying that I do not need the Dell "drivers and utilities" disc that came with the system?

The internet is littered with people bitching about how their Dell keeps screwing up or how Windows isn't compatible with this or that, and I'd like to try and avoid becoming one of those people. Basically, I'm just wanting to know if there are any issues in straying from the Dell OEM operating system, and installing my own full retail version of Win 7.

Any and all help will be appreciated.
Also, I am not really a "tech savvy" guy, so simple terms would be great.

Can I install Windows XP on my dell computer? I mean the regular one that you'd buy in a box at the store. I seem to be having more trouble than it's worth using the Dell Operating System CD to reinstall it. I'm trying to delete the current windows on the hard drive and do a fresh install like I posted before, but it says it can't because it needs the files already installed to make the new install. So what I'm saying is, can I dump the dell disk and just use the real one? I have a feeling that would fix it.

Been scouring the net but haven't been able to find anything so I thought I'd post. Sorry if there's been a lot of these types of threads but here's my issue.

Installation of the operating system for Windows 7 actually goes without much difficulty but when I go into the post install setup the monitor goes blank. I've been poking around and what I've managed to conclude is that Dell likes to use it's own generic driver for video display rather than use the Windows Standard VGA Compatible Driver that should start up by default.

The reason why I've come to this conclusion is because I tried booting the new install in safe mode and I could actually see the initial setup page. However I get a dialog box at that point telling me that initial setup and configuration cannot be done in safe mode.

My question for you guys, is there any way for me to disable the Dell OEM drivers that like to start overriding the generic drivers that come with windows? And if so how?

I currently have a Dell XPS M1730 laptop that has been rendered useless with viruses. I wish to reformat/reinstall Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on it. My problem is that the original factory disc has been lost by the original owner. The original operating system on it was Windows XP and was upgraded to Win 7 Ultimate.

I want to download the drivers for the laptop from Dell's website but I am unsure if I should download the drivers for the XP version or the Vista version. There are no other driver versions available.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

A:Help With Installing Windows 7 on Dell Laptop

If win7 was an upgrade version, then you must have a justifying genuine operating system installed and activated which in your case was xp.

A:Difficulty Installing Windows 7 on a Dell XPS 720

CoreFlood, I think you have half of of the solution already. Boot in safe mode, install the drivers you want (worst case just uninstall the problematic ones and Win7 will take care of installing them when you reboot) and reboot normally.

Why do you say: "Of course you can't do the post install settings in safe mode so I couldn't go any further."? Have you tried that? That is what safe mode is supposed to be for

Dell is not checking the Inspiron 620 for Windows 10 compatability and has no plans to update drivers. Has anybody successfully installed Windows 10 on a Dell Inspiron 620?

A:Installing windows 10 on a Dell Inspiron 620

There are millions of hardware combinations on the market, which people use. So I don't know if you'll get many answers if you ask that way.

However, there are quite a number of Google hits on that question:
"windows 10" "Dell Inspiron 620" - Google Search

I found one user for whom the upgrade itself worked nicely, but he wrote that afterwards he had issues with the Intel HD 2000 card: Video playback was somehow problematic and also the sound did only work, if he connected and disconnected his headphones.
The sound problem sounds like a setting problem to me; I think that should be solvable. For the HD 2000 graphics card, you should really use the newest drivers. For an Intel HD 3000 card I am using drivers from May 2015 and they work nicely. Older drivers may have problems under WIndows 10. So check, if there are new drivers for the HD 2000 and if so, install them.
The user with the graphics/problems found these issues to be too bad for him.

Whatever you do: Before you start the upgade, make sure that you have a system image of your Windows 7 installation. From the user with the graphics/sound problems:

After a couple of unproductive hours I restored the machine back to windows seven. This did not come without problems though, the factory installed OS image has been removed and all system scheduled tasks have been corrupted. It has taken a few days to get the machine running ok but restoring the system tasks is complex and ... Read more

I have a Dell Venue 10 5055 tablet. I have had windows 10 on this tablet for a few months now and never had an issue. About 2 months ago I did a factory reset using windows 10 to do a full system wipe and never had an issue. Today I wanted to wipe it again. I again used windows 10 to wipe the system to factory settings, except this time it's stuck in a boot loop. I turn it on and it shows the dell logo, then flashes an error quickly and reboots over again. The error is "rebooting system to make tpm2 settings in effect."

Normally I can figure out an issue, but I can't seem to find any results with this issue. All I did was reset the tablet back to factory image. I have tried pressing volume up which normally goes to boot menu. The option is highlighted, then it displays the same error again. I tried volume down which usually goes to bios, the option is selected, and again displays error and reboots. I even tried going into recovery mode by pressing volume up and down, a loading bar displays, then displays the error and reboots. I find it funny because my warranty expired recently and I've never had an issue resetting it. I'll try anything to get this tablet to work. Let me know of a solution and I will usually reply within minutes for the results.

Then the installer rolls back everything and I get mad. Does anyone have any suggestions? How do I authorize the folder? This has been happening for a while and a solution will make me very happy inside.

Just thought I'd also mention this as it may have some bearing on why this is happening: When I purchased my computer it came with Windows XP Media Center, but a virus plagued my system and my hard drive became corrupted and I had to reinstall windows. Unfortunately, I didn't have the installation disk and ended up installing a non-Media Center edition on a disk from my roommate. I recently came into possession of an old Dell Poweredge 800 and I would like to turn it into a desktop by installing windows 7. The computer has a 64GB SATA SSD which I would like to install the OS on, this is not setup in RAID, and a 500GB hard drive for storage. The computer also has a fairly old 64MB videocard and 4GB of DDR2 RAM. The screen will read that it is installing windows files then It will run the standard Windows 7 startup screen, but at the end of the startup screen the computer crashes and returns a fatal system error (c000021a) on the blue screen of death. I am fairly inexperienced with computers (especially servers), does anybody know how I can get windows to install? Here are the specs I got it with, minus all hard drives. The Ram was upgraded to 4GB and I added a 64MB videocard.

You can download the DOS Boot disk ISO image for [email protected] and burn the image with their Image burner or IMGBurn in my signature. Boot off of the Kill Disk CD and do a low level format. This will wipe the drive of all previous instlalls. This will take quite a while so please be patient. Once it is wiped, boot off of the Windows 7 DVD and install Windows.

I have a Windows XP Home CD I got from dell with my laptop (almost 2 years ago). Well I uninstalled it from my laptop and started using Windows XP Professional right away, and haven't touched the XP home since. One of my friends is having me build a computer for her on a budget, and if I get another license, it'll throw her over the budget. So I have one question: Will I be able to install the XP Home I got with my dell onto the computer with any activation problems? I know I shouldn't, but just to be on the safe side, I thought I'd ask...

A:Installing Dell Windows XP Home on another computer

Welcome to Techspot

Do everybody a favour and install Windows 2000 Pro, if you have that lying around.
No activation problems, and (in my opinion) much more stable than XP.
Install W2K/SP4, update IE to version 6/SP1, then do a full windows-update.
Now take an image of that install, using Drive Image or Acronis TrueImage.
Then install whatever else.

Anyone's help would be appreciated.

A few years back, I bought a Dell Latitude with Windows 7 Pro SP1 64bit preinstalled with no COA disk.

I recently picked up a few viruses that I've determined require me to completely reformat the disk and start anew. However, I don't have the original OS disk but do intend to purchase one.

My question is: Can I install a new Windows 7 pro OS COA on a Dell motherboard without violating any of Dell's rules and requirements, and will it install and work properly? I fear that Dell is too proprietary with its components that could bar me from installing the OS properly.

Any unsolicited suggestions and comments will be appreciated.

A:Installing Windows 7 pro 64bit OEM COA on Dell motherboard

An OEM copy is tied to the motherboard that it was installed on so unless you bought a special license for multiple computers it will not activate on the new motherboard even if it is also a dell. That is the downside to using an OEM license. You will need a retail copy to transfer it to a new motherboard.

I just bought Oblivion GOTY edition yesterday and it crashes right on start up. Update (March 10) - This seems to be a problem others have had, but no solutions yet. See the Microsoft Forum post...

I have had some difficulty installing the drivers for the automatic rotation function for the Samsung Series 7. It worked fine with the developer preview, but I did a clean install of the Consumer preview, and I am no longer able to install it.

I downloaded the windows 7 drivers (Motion_Sensor_1.7.9.7) and ran using the Windows 7 compatibility. The software appeared to instal, but the device manager shows that it is not working, and the status indicates that Windows cannot load the drivers required.

To make this a bit more mysterious, I can't uninstall the drivers since the uninstall program kicks off an error that the program cannot run because it is awaiting a reboot. I have rebooted several times, but this does not appear to be a real issue.

My question is if anyone has encountered this sort of trouble, and what work-arounds might have worked. The other question is whether there is a particular registry entry to look for to unlock the 'waiting for reboot' issue?

Thanks for any help!

I had the (refurbished) XPS 12 Convertible for about 10 hours now and I am scared of what I have seen so far and what there is to come.
1.  WiFi connectivity gets lost/broken very often and/or stuck in 'Limited' status (no connectivity).
2. WiFi always is disconnected after closing / opening the lid and often times is unable to get signal back (or takes long time 3-7 minutes) for the signal to return. I have made the appropriate setting adjustment for windows not to cut power to the WiFi Card when in sleep mode, and also set the power settings to Maximum Performance. No luck.  I have installed all of the latest drivers from Dell and, with support, also tried the Intel (more updated) drivers for Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235. No luck. Update to new Bios, still no major improvement. After hours with Dell support, it looks like they will send someone over to replace the WiFi card.
I was hoping that was it and that's the only issue I'd deal with. But wait, there is more:
3. Track pad is odd. I am not doing anything fancy, I just want to use it as a courser and left/right mouse click. Sometimes it is totally unresponsive, you have to move your hand off of it and try again for it to register that you are touching it. Sometimes it ignores left or right mouse clicks as if they never happened.
