What do you mean by Flashes--Does your screen fog up for a few seconds then return you to the desktop? And you cant Access ANY folders or just some?

Hi everyone,

I am using an older IBM laptop with windows 98. This is my car tuning laptop so I dont really care to update it at all. I do need internet access on it though. This laptop is basically bare with software since it was restored to its original state...

Today I started it up and successfully got on the internet for a while then left and when I came back, I tried to get on the internet but it is now acting crazy. When I click to go to IE, it flashes the web page and I can see it say web site found waiting for reply and all that jazz. But right when it says that, I get a page that pops up as a file download to either open or save to my computer. I cannot even access the page to go to internet options and change the homepage or anything.

I have done a full virus scan along with a spyware/adware scan and no viruses and like 18 objects in the spyware... Still doesnt work.

I am hooked up through cable modem to a belkin wireless router then hardwiring this laptop throught the wireless router ports.

Any help would be awesome, it is just baffling me since it worked about an hour before the problem.

Thanks, Zach

Hi,  My problem is that the screen keeps flashing black, just for a second, and then coming right back. It's not really a problem, but it seems like it's happening with increasing frequency.  The computer is fairly new--less than 6 months old. It's connected to wifi most of the time, I run Opera as a browser, and have a Dropbox account I'm hooked into. I only have about 4gigs free on the hard drive, and the memory (as shown in the task manager) is usually around 85%. I work online, and do have a lot of tabs open at once, so the load can get heavy (that's why I switched to Opera, it was freezing up with Firefox's heavy load). Any insight would be appreciated--I just want to know it's not heading towards a crash! Or if it is, if ther's anything I can do about it. Thanks!

For some reason two of the LCDs at our office, when the employee steps away for a couple minutes, I think it goes into power save mode and the screen goes black but it won't come back up when they return and shake the mouse or hit any keys. The green LED flashes during this time as well. Any clue what may be causing this or how to fix it? We do have APC BackUPS' attached to each. Could this be a problem?

A:LCD, Green LED Flashes and won't come back on after power save

Are you sure the PC isn't hibernating?

Go into Power Options and check the Hibernate tab to see if hibernation is enabled.

If the system goes into hibernation, moving the mouse and/or tapping keys will not bring it back. You have to hit the power button on the PC.

Am using Win XP with SR2 and all updates current.
In IE7 when I go to yahoo's mail login in screen, the whole page flashes instead of allowing me to login.

If I use Netscape 7.1 and go to the same page (using the same computer), I can use webmail on the yahoo page and weed out the spam before downloading the "keepers" using Outlook.

I have searched the forums for "IE uninstall and re-install" "IE repair" etc but I'm not even sure if the issue is IE.

All other pages display properly and allow input.

Hello and welcome to TSF

What firewall and security programs do you have installed?

also please try this:

Open up Internet Explore, click Tools, Internet Options, click on the tab Security and underneath 'Security Level for this Zone' put it on Medium.
Then click on the tab Privacy and under 'settings' put it on Medium. Click Apply then Ok.

Occasionally it works after end on end of pressing the button (sometimes up to 30 minutes) but crashes after 15-40 minutes. What can I do!!

I'm considering buying an all in one PC but I don't know if they're goof for playing games with high detail I.e Simulations. Any views?

When I turn my computer on normally, it gets to the page to enter my password and about 5-10 seconds later while loading, the screen begins blinking black as if it is repeatedly trying to load the user list and password box. I left it like this for hours to see if it would load after a long time and came back to the screen still blinking.

I did a manual restart and was able to start the computer in safemode and this is the only way it will work. My laptop runs on Windows 7 home premium 64 bit.

I have tried updating drivers, clean reboot, and a system restore.

Does anybody have an idea of what's wrong? I can upload a video of what's happening when I startup if needed.

Thank you, DHymel

I've had this happened once or twice since I've had the computer, but so far today..world record, it's happened 3 times in one day. Which concerns me. Alot of the time, it happens when the computer is coming back out of sleep mode. The screen will flash black for literally half a second, and the taskbar at the bottom goes back to default settings. (Nothing else does.) And generally nothing will work In the taskbar when this happens. Example, my wireless will show that its active on my taskbar before it flashes, then it shows up with x over it after the flash happens. And I cannot go back and change it manually. I have to reboot. When I do reboot, it is back to normal.

Is there anyone who might have any idea what causes this to happen, or what I can do to remedy it? Thank you!

After disconnecting and reconnecting my HP Pavilion T490 desktop to the mains, it refuses to start. The PSU makes a ticking / clicking noise and the LED on the back flashes / blinks. A few months back, after returning from vacation, I had the exact same issue, but it worked after a few tries.

I worked through the HP Power Supply troubleshooting doc and talked to an online help employee. The PSU fails to work as soon as I plug in the 20 pin ATX-connector in the motherboard (both with and without all PCI/AGP cards and memory modules). If I hardwire ATX pin 14 to a ground pin, the HD and CD/DVD's spin up.

After all these test, I'm still not sure what the problem is. The PSU or the motherboard. The machine still falls under warranty, but, if it is the PSU, I'll replace it myself with a higher quality higher wattage model (currently is a Bestec 250W ATX). If it is the motherboard, I'll use the warranty (aren't any shops here which sell microATX socket 478 SATA/Firewire boards anyway).

Anyone got a clue what the issue is here? I've googled arround; found similiar problems, but never definate answers as to what is the problem.

A:HP Pavilion: Power Supply ticks / LED on the back flashes; no boot

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

As far as I can tell, that sounds more like a mobo problem than a psu problem. In any case, as you system is still under warranty, I suggest you let HP take care of it.

I am using Win Vista, IE 8.0. I don't have any extra toolbars installed. I am using Zone Alarm and AVG free versions.

After I log into the GMAIL login screen, a blank white screen flashes repeatedly. In the bottom left hand message area the message "Website found, waiting for reply" appears, followed by "Done". This reapeats indefinitely.

I read some things in Google help. I have cleared my cache and cookies but I still had the problem.

One thing that does work is if I open "IE (No Add-ons)" found on Start> AllPrograms > Accessories > System Tools, then I do not have the problem. Since it worked with no add-ons, from the Tools menu in IE I selected Manage Add-ons and disabled all add-ons. I was going to add them back in one at a time to maybe determine which add-on was causing the problem. But with all add-ons disabled, I still experienced the problem.

I had recently upgraded to Adobe Reader and Flash ver 10. Thinking this might be part of the problem I uninstalled all Adobe products. I still experienced the problem. (I have since added Adobe back to my system.)

Can you give some help determining what may be causing me to get this flahsing screen when I login to GMAIL using the normal mode of IE?

Thanks
Don

The exact same thing happened to me last week...and I combed every message board I could possibly find. I found it odd that my web-surfing was unaffected...but the symptoms were the same as what you're experiencing.

None of the answers I found helped at all....so hopefully this will help you.

You have a virus.

Mine were found at the following locations after doing a bootscan virus check using avast antivirus:

1.) c:\windows\system32\urqircbu.dll
2.) c:\documentsandsettings\HPAdministrator\LocalSettings\Temp\removalfile.bat

Once they were removed, everythig works perfectly again (after being down for 1 day and a half searching for the right answer.)

Good luck!!

A recurring problem is happening accross several systems not related in any way. Service Pack 2 is installed. When trying to start any windows system applications such as control panel, windows explorer, My computer etc, the screen icons disapear for a few seconds completely and then reapear with no program starting. In safe mode when yu click on the welcome this is safe mode screen it flashes off and reapears. Most all other applications work and will load but it appears that any windows app wont. Spybot and adaware reported only a few finds. Norton also will not start up yet show as active on the task bar. Is there any way to get this redone without loosing data. Windows 98 would reinstall over itself as will Xp but Xp blows away a lot of the user data created. This has happened to four systems now.

This may be an issue with the Acer One netbook we're using it on, but the problem seems to occur on any browser that's installed on Windows 7 Basic.

We have a little girl who likes playing Flash games on her netbook. Unfortunately, in the middle of them, they frequently just hop back to the previous (usually menu) page, thus losing her progress. Very annoying.

Is there some key combination that she could accidentally be hitting which somehow acts as a keypress activating the "Previous Page" button? I recall the old days where, due to the way that keyboards functions, pressing three buttons at the same time would often send the same signal to the computer as pressing a fourth.

As stated at the start, I've had her try on Firefox as well as IE8 and the problem isn't browser-specific.

Thanks for any help!

On my W500 keyboard there are two keys on either side of the up arrow in the lower right corner. Pressing them allows you to navigate forward and back in your browser or in explorer. However, these have to be the worst placed keys possible. Whenever I am typing a message on a website and I want to move around in my text to make some edits, I go to use my arrow keys but occasionally I will hit the back key, thus going back to my previous page and losing all that I was typing. It is extremely frustrating. Is there a way to disable these key? I have no need for them, they only cause me headaches. Cheers,Jordan

Hello All

Would anyone have any idea what is causing a flash of light (a very thin line~~kinda in a square shape) to go across my screen once at startup just as the desktop finishes loading? See it once at every startup, but only at startup, and only at the end of the desktop loading.

Been happening for a few weeks now. It appeared a few times while I still had ME, but appears at every startup since installing XP SP2, which is about 3 weeks ago. My Screen Resolution is set at 1024 by 768 pixels, and my Color Quality is set on high (24 bit). My screen resolution is set at 75 Hertz.

Here's what I have done so far~~I ran all the tests (on all the tabs) on the DIRECT X DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS, and passed them all~~no problems found.

Don't know where to go from here~~help would be greatly appreciated!!

Before posting here, I have already scanned in both safe and regular mode, my computer using Avira, Malware Bytes, and Super antispyware.

This has still not gotten rid of the problem I have though: My desktop is blank no matter what I do and it worries me. The odd thing is, whenever I have my mouse cursor pointed over an active window such as google chrome, or regular windows explorer, the background of my desktop is blank but bright white. When I put my cursor on my desktop, it turns into a darker gray/cream color, but reverts back to bright white when I put my cursor on a window such as googlechrome / windows explorer / etc.

I also cannot highlight multiple objects on my desktop either. I can however, in windows explorer.

Folks;
I am using Win XP, IE 6. When I use the back button it does not take me to the previous page. I have looked at the history list and noticed that there are numberof "doubleclick" items there. When I click back button it backs up one at a time and finally reaches the previous page. Depending on the webpage I am visiting I have to click many times to back to the previous page. This is most annoying. I use FireFox on the same machine and I do not have this problem there. I use a laptop with Win2K and IE 6 and it does not have that problem either. Basically they do not retain the doubleclick frames in the history. How can I fix this on the XP machine. I compared all the internet advanced options with the laptop and they are identical. Here's the problem. I work at a real estate company and for the past two weeks we have not been able to go on our MLS. We have about 30 computers of which NONE can get past the login from our network there. I know this because on my laptop, i can access the MLS site from home, but once i get to work and log onto our network then i cannot get in. I can go to the site which is www.fresnomls.com type in the username and pw and click login, but then it just directs me back to the same page with the username and pw textboxes emptied.
A side note, A few days ago I was able to detect the autoit virus on many of our computers which was messing up the registry's and creating the RVHIOST files. I have cleaned up a few computers that had this virus using hijackthis, ccleaner and spybot along with registry booster.
I even reformatted 1 computer with xp pro sp2 and it still won't login. I'm guessing this is because possibly another infected computer is still on the network??
Should i disconnect all computers from the network and then try to login to the site to see if the problem still exists? this is weird because this is the only site having this issue, not hotmail or any other site. And because of this its' such as hassel as our agents need and use this site on a daily basis.
Any help is appreciated.

This morning when searching google, I started noticing that my cursor would jump around in the search bar as I was typing, then started randomly highlighting words and deleting them.  Also noticed highlighting everywhere the cursor went and windows popping up randomly. So I rebooted.

Then desktop icons would open when cursor was placed over the icon. No clicking was performed.  Start menu icon flashes on and off quickly so that I am not able click anything. Rebooted again.

This time desktop icons missing but taskbar still there.  The start menu still flashing. As a moved the cursor across screen it would drag and form boxes.....don't know if I am saying this one correctly.

Rebooted in Safe Mode....ran Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware programs.....results came back that there were no infections.

Need help please.....I have two computers so I am able to download removal tools to a CD if necessary.

I have an annoying issue with my laptop. The focus reverts to the desktop about once ever 20 mins or so. It is very annoying because any application has it's focus taken away and I'm reverted to the previous active window.I'm not sure if there is a virus or something causing the problem. Would someone please help me solve this?

A:Windows 7 Reverts/Jumps Back to Desktop

Not really following.  What are you meaning by that the "focus" is being taken away from the current window that you are in.  Are you using Windows Ease of Access Magnifier?  What program is it that you are in, that window ends up being taken over by another program.

ok, I got a virus, and I am working with AVG to get rid of it. long story short, I had shut down my firewall for a minute to check the speed difference because my cable company said it was the reason for my slow internet service. This thing has reeked havok on my computer. It wiped out my backups and restore points, locked me out of CMD and run, removed my task manager option and my taskbar, start button, and all desktop functionality. It won't let me search for files on my computer either. I have to manually find things and run them. I have taskmanager back because I created a batchfile in notepad and ran it to run regedit. it wouldn't even let me run regedit directly. it just didn't do anything when I clicked on it. so now I have regedit back, and my taskmanager. Ithink I got rid of the virus. I have run every spyware virus program I can. most won't run. I get errors. Not too suprising. this thing seems to have everything locked out. I have regecure. it did nothing to help. I checked the registry and it isn't that explorer is missnamed. something is still wrong though, and I can't figure it out. Anyone have anything that would help me? PLEASE!!! my wifes computer died a month ago (it was old) and so we put all of our pictures on this one. I dont want to lose them. please help!!!

A:My windows is tossing me back to desktop background

Hi,

It would be a good idea to run a registry cleaner such as Ccleaner. If the issue persists even after performing registry cleanup, then you may proceed with clean installation of Windows. Do backup any data you wish to preserve after re-installing.

Could you also elaborate on the point that you tried re-installing Windows but wasn't able to do so. Please let us know if you received an error during installation so that we can assist you better.

I have the Sims Double Deluxe (old, i know.) It was working fine for a few weeks but now it's not.

I put in the CD and start it, and it loads.. then suddenly stops, and returns me back to my windows desktop. I troubleshooted.

Closed down background programs, my drivers are updated.. etc. its all good

however it asks me to: adjust the Color palette option to 256 colors and the Desktop area to 640 by 480 pixels. If your driver lets you alter the viewport size separately, sometimes referred to as "virtual desktop", make sure it is also set to 640x480 or you may encounter problems.

I can't do that for some reason. I think my monitor is different.

But i've used the Sims successfully before, now all of a sudden it wont. Help!

I have been attempting to backup my Gateway computer for some time.  I have tried to back it up using disks several times and it always tells me the backup was not successful.  I therefore purchased a Seagate external hard drive and tried to back
up my computer to it.  It stopped at about 13percent and would not continue.

I am so afraid I will lose everything including precious photos from many years.

Any assistance you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi all,

I have Win7 Ultimate x64 installed on an brand new HP Pavilion s5-1205z Slimline desktop.

When I am reading an email or document the screen will just suddenly flash to a black screen for a second. Sometimes it does this several times in a row, and other times just once or twice. It is random and does not matter what program I am in, if I am browsing, playing a video on-line, or typing. I have installed Java and done as much troubleshooting as I can and can't find anything that relates to that kind of behavior at all in the Help Files or FAQ's.

Any suggestions of where I might look to see if I need to check or uncheck something, and what, would be very much appreciated.

A:PC screen suddenly flashes to a black screen and back

Combining the info that you posted here with the info in this thread - I gotta wonder if someone is able to remote into your computer. If you are not too far along in setting up your computer, you might want to consider a clean install without all of the bloatware.

Unless you have a specific need for Java - uninstall it. If you need it, then it might be worth the security risk of having it installed. If you don't need it - then why risk having it installed?

I have a new HP laptop vision AMD with windows 8. She downloaded the latest updates and it has gone into a loop between the desktop and blue screen. It will not allow me to use the hidden menu choices or anything. I can get to Task Manager however that offers me nothing. It does not stay on either screen long enough to do anything. The curser spins as trying to load something. I did notice Symantec seems to be the only thing running taking upwards to 85% of CPU in process. It will not allow me to end the task.

A:Solved: Windows 8 looping from desktop to blue screen and back

Depending on what stage of the Windows boot it progresses to, if you have the power icon on the lower right of the screen, click that, then hold down the shift key and click restart
there you will the advanced options and from there you may proceed to a restore point

Click/tap on the Power button at the bottom right corner, press and hold the Shift key, and click/tap on restart

On my laptop and old windows install I had a dropbox icon on the desktop like picture 1 that showed a green checkmark and blue circlewith activity. Like in this picture Dropbox | myBalsamiq.

On my current new install I cannot figure out how to get that icon back on the desktop. All I can get is the shortcut icon in the 3rd picture but that white arrow is only a shortcut indicator and does not show activity. I also cannot just drag files to the white shortcut icon like I could with the status icon as shown in the first picture. Does anyone know how I could get the shortcut icon in the 3rd picture to become a status icon like in the 1st picture? I can click up in the taskbar and the activity icon is in there but I cannot drag the activity icon from there to the desktop.

Seems simple yet mind boggling. I left click on any top window frame of any open application and drag in order to reposition the window on the desktop. The problem is that after repositioning the window when I release the left mouse, the window may OR may not snap back to it's original position, ignoring where I've moved it.

Any ideas?

At all times, the windows are within the desktop visible boundary.

Referring to post at:
http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...come-page.html

titled "Need HELP for Windows XP failure to run Explorer.exe after Welcome Page".

Press Ctrl+Alt+Del. If it brings up Task Manager, create a new task and run %windir%\explorer.exe. If this brings up the desktop, then according to the posted HijackThis log, this is my speculation (assuming your system is clean of malware):

Too many startup processes. Any undue change to any of them can cause problem during startup. If you could remember the very last time you had accessed the internet before this problem cropped up, did your hard disk light blinked a lot? Some programs were actively reading or writing to your machine. It could be Windows update or ZoneAlarm or others. Undo Windows update, uninstall ZoneAlarm, unintall IME, uninstall Java, etc. Try to minimize or simplify you startup process. Get replacement, another version of Java or from the other vendor, another firewall, another IME, etc.

Sorry for the delay. When I solved my similar problem, the thread is closed. So I post here in case anyone care to read. I uninstall ZoneAlarm, zap clean the registry with Registry Easy 4.7, replace it with Comodo Internet Security Free 3.5.54375.427. My XP sp2 is back to normal and desktop shows up after logon as normal.

Hi everyone. I'm having a problem in Windows 7 with my dual monitor setup. Being a student, my laptop comes with me during the day to classes, but when I return to my desk, I have a dual monitor setup through a docking station. I haven't had a problem getting the displays to actually output in extended desktop. Instead, I can't keep them set that way. Installing any program, opening the system task monitor, letting the computer idle into sleep, or any process that makes the screen "flash" sets the screens back to clone. It's even more annoying that for some reason, I cannot get the system to recognize the external monitor through the display settings. To get around this, I've set up schemes that I default to through the Intel Graphics card. I know it's a minor irritation, but somehow I managed to bypass that default in Vista Ultimate and can't quite figure out how to do it in 7.

I attempted to fill out my system specs in my profile as best as possible, but please let me know if any information more is needed from me. I apologize if anything is missing, this is my first post. Thanks for your help!

Hi, I have windows home 7, home built pc with Asus motherboard. Don't ask me further spec details cuz I have no idea about most of the specs (an ex built it and can't get in control panel due to monitor issue). I just know that it's supposed to be kick-*** with a 5.8 windows score.

The PC boots fine, gives you the option to start windows normally or leave it do its' thing... but either way I try, it makes no difference to monitor.
When it boots, the monitor shows all the usual details, the bios pic, starting... and as soon as it reaches desktop point (I think), it goes black even though monitor is still powered and no errors about no signal. If I turn monitor off and on, it will quickly show me the desktop then it goes black again.

I'd appreciate any help or insight.

A:Monitor black but turning monitor off/on flashes desktop for split second

Hi, first thing I would try is to connect the PC to another monitor that is known to be in good working order. If the same problem occurs then we will know it is a problem with the PC, if it functions normally you will know it is a problem with your monitor.

Hi everyone. Well I couldn't get rid of a knarley virus I had so felt defeated and I just gave up. I backed up my files to DVD's which may contain some malware ridden files. Probably not the smartest decision but I didn't know what to do. I wiped and reformatted my storage partition and proceeded to enter recovery boot mode to wipe/reformat my C:/ drive on Windows Vista Home Premium, and then it started but a Windows XP logo flashed for a couple seconds. Got skeched out and aborted the process and shut down. Any ideas on why that would be? As well as, how to clean my backed up storage data on DVD's without running on another computer potentially infecting it too? Thank you for taking the time to read this, any help/input would be truly appreciated.

A:How do I get Edge tab/page previews back?

The Tab preview option is not an optional feature and, since Edge is such an integral part of W10, you probably have some system file corruption. I would do the following:

1. Try the System file checker
2. If necessary follow up with the DISM repair
3. If 1&2 do not fix it you may need to do a repair install with an in-place upgrade

I have google chrome 18.0.1025.152 m installed on Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit

Within the past 3-4 days I've started to have an issue where when I try to go back a page using either the back button on my mouse, the backspace key, or the back button and I have to click it multiple times before it will go back, sometimes it won't even do that so I have to click and hold on the back button and then choose which page I want to go back to...often with multiple pages for the same page listed before I can go back to the page I want.

I have the following extensions on the browser:
Adblock Plus (Beta)
AVG Safe Search
ChromeReload (not turned on)
F.B. Purity
Facebook Classic
Google Translate
StumbleUpon
Turn Off the Lights
Youtube Downloader

I had tried to look on Google for some answers...but it was not very helpful.

If you need to know anything else so I can figure this out, please let me know.

Also, this isn't super important so whenever someone can help me to fix it (it's only a minor annoyance right now)

A:Google chrome and trying to go back a page

Hi,

Firefox has a mode that is called Safe mode which will disable all the plugins and let you test things, but Chrome doesn't. It does have a mode call incognito. I would like you to try running a tab with that mode and see if you are having the same issues. This will help us figure out if it is a browser issue or a plugin/addon issue.

Hi.

i have a doubt.

let me explain the scenario.

I am on a webpage. Say, i am reading the 4th or 5th para of an article.

Then i press control+home key on my keyboard.

Again i feel the need to traverse back to the same paragraph which i was reading a little earlier using keyboard shortcut.

Please tell me if there is any shortcut to do so..

Thanks in anticipation.

A:how to navigate back to the same place in a web page

As long as you aren't currently in a text box. . . . the Backspace Key should do the trick I think.

Also, I don't know if this applies to other web browsers, but Alt+Left Arrow is the shortcut for Back in Firefox.

Hope that helps

can anybody please tell me how to stop the problem of a blank page when pressing the "back" button. If I go back two pages and then forward one then it's fine but I'm just about to throw my keyboard through the window... so for the sake of that .. can anybody help me

A:Blank page on back button

If the link that you click takes you to a page with an immediate re-direct to another page, when you only click the back button once, it's taking you back to that re-direct page which is then forwarding you right back to where you were. To get back past that stupid re-direct page, you'll have to click the back button twice.

I currently have an outstanding thread on the Malware Removal forum regarding this issue, and it does not appear that it will be tended to in a timely manner, so... in the interim, I am posting my situation on the general forum to see if anyone has any advice.

Let me start by saying that, thankfully (knock on wood), my computer is functioning normally for the most part, and while I scan regularly using four or five different programs, I haven't found anything profoundly alarming... yet.

For the last couple of weeks, I have noticed that my keyboard has without warning changed a couple of "alt" commands on its own. For example, when I type alt+1, alt+4, instead of the note character, the browser (regardless of whether it's Firefox or IE) will go back one page to the previous page visited. And alt+1, alt+7 - I forget which character that is - brings me to the browser home page. I found this out just recently on my own, since I usually like to use the note music symbol if I'm ever "singing" something on blogs and whatnot. It's a sudden change that I have no idea how it happened, but it's quite possible some sort of malware could be responsible, because I've Googled and Googled and have yet to find anyone with the same predicament.

I will add that this is not the first time my keyboard has acted weird - my first, last, and only post on this forum back in January revolved around the caps lock function on my keyboard working in re... Read more

A:Key Issues, e.g. Alt+1, Alt+4 - Instead Of , Browser Goes Back One Page

FYI - I just bought a brand new keyboard. Same result when pressing alt+1 and then alt+4 - back to the previous page.

Is there a way to like reset any keyboard defaults or something? This problem is clearly now in the computer, and I am wondering if there is some keylogger thing on it as a result.

Any advice would be appreciated. FYI - I have a Windows XP OS (then again, my handle should tip you off to that). Thanks.

I write an e-book. I used to use frames - menu on left and contents. I have now converted the book to non-frames using a <div> to wrap all the displayed text nesting a <div> for the menu and a <div> for the contents. The new sites looks like the old one but now allows users to be referred from other sites and emails. HOWEVER, the old site used to return users who browsed to another page back to the same place in the first page (e.g. perhaps half way down a longish page) but the new version returns them to the top. Any idea as to why would be appreciated.

You can bring the cursor over to the left side of the screen in metro version of IE and an arrow will show up, press that and you will back up... As for selecting where you'd like to go back to, I do not believe there is a way to do that unlike the desktop version.

Hello.

I want to know how I can prevent my computer from going back to the log on page after it has been idle for a time. I would simply rather touch the laptop pad and just be able to pick up from where I left off instead of having to sign in all over again.

I use Vista Ultimate. I have tried going to Personalization and the Screensaver page and checked to see if the

Thanks for any help.

Hi folks

Just joined. A few months back I had this idea of reducing my page size to 50% so i effectively had the capacity to have 2 pages on screen.

Since then i have been unable to change this back. I managed 'temporarily to do this at one stage but invariably it continues to come up as half a page.

How do i return this to its original full page display on all sites?

Hope that is clear.

Thankyou in advance if anyone can help me with this.

Hello , I am sure glad your site is here , as I rely on it when I have an odd problem. as I have now.

So , I use IE 11 and Google( not Chrome) for my internet searches. Recently , when I type a search into the Google search box a list of sights comes up , all pertaining to my specific search. So far so good , after clicking on it and deciding it's not what I want, I click on the IE back button and I cant get back to the list page to choose another site.

Is their a setting or something I can check to make Google go back to the list page ?

Admin; please feel free to move this post if their is a better category.

Thanks, M. BArretta

A:Can't get Google back to listing page

I too use IE11 and I have seen it lose the ability to go back. As a work around, I try to remember to right click on links and select open in new tab or new window. That way, Google's search returns will just stay in the main window.

OK then, When i start the computer up it comes up with "Windows can't check for updates" Then when i click on this icon the screen flashes up with no writing on it at all, completely white. And the disappears almost instantaneously.

There are no error codes at all. I have tried to go in to "all programs" and start windows updates but the problem is the same. If i go into control panel and try it there, it will make a click sound but wont even flash up.

As well as this when in control panel it will not let me access "System" to change settings or check performance etc.

I have tried disabling my firewall and AVG and Spyware Terminator Real time protection, but nothing changes it will not allow me to access updates.

I have run checks for any infections on the computer but comes up clean.

I am running Vista Home Premium and have also installed vista service pack 1 without any problems.

The computer seems to be running ok can be a bit slow but i put that down to Acer e management. I'm the only user as its a home laptop and this problem has been happening for as long as i can remember.

The screen flashes and turns off for a second and then everything come back to normal, This is my 2nd fresh installation for windows 10, I thought there could be something wrong with the drivers, i double checked them, I even replaced all of the apps that i used to have! , spent lots of time to look for alternatives (Avira instead of Kaspersky, 7zip instead of WinRAR, etc.), It may seems like a simple problem, But it's really frustrating for me, I never had this issue with windows 8.1, I hope that someone would help me with that .

Hi

I've just upgraded to 8.1 and I have seen this exact problem on a different laptop of similar specs (my specs should be in my profile).

I use a custom theme with dark colors. I like dark background and light text. The problem is that very often when I open a new explorer (like My Computer) or browser window (like Firefox), the whole background of the window/frame becomes white for a very brief period before showing the actual content of the window and assuming the dark background color that I assigned. This might not be a big deal for someone using the default white theme, but for me it is annoying, let alone hurtful for my eyes especially in the evening.
I tried looking for a fix but no luck.

Can someone please be so kind and help me with this?
Thanks in advance

I have ran into this problem a while back and managed to fix it by using the Windows Setup and using the System Restore option but now for some reason I have no clue on how to Boot from a USB/CD.. it's not working.

I have a Compaq PC so it's a bit complicated to boot from devices. Anyways, if you guys could help me out a bit in a way that would be great!

A:Windows Starts and Flashes Purple

You have to get into your BIOS and set up booting from the install disk or USB disk. Unfortunately, MS in it's wisdom has allowed some OEMS access to the BIOS only through the OS, so if this is what you have your are F'd. But you can try shutting it off and then restarting, hitting F10 or F2 or ESC and maybe one of those will get you in. Just keep Hitting F Keys, one of them, Usually F12 is a Boot Choice Menu.

Hello;
I have been experiencing a weird problem with my internet explorer (on XP). On some Web sites, this one in particular, when I select down into the individual Posts the BACK button will take me up to the post listings and the Forward will go gray with nothing inside. Then if I select Back again I get the same window I am on and if I look in the Back History it will show another entry of the current window along with the real history. Sometimes it will contain a url that is related to a AD contained in the site (not spyware).
I have reloaded Explorer 6.0 as well as tried 7.0 RC1. They all do the same thing. I also looked at two other computers, one does it on this site the other not but does on other sites. Maybe this is something that happens all the time but this is my first experience with this and I spend a lot of time on this site in particular. Anybody seen this before?

This may be an issue with the Acer One netbook we're using it on, but the problem seems to occur only in IE8 that's installed on Windows & Basic.

If I can get her off the machine for a short while, I'm going to try installing Firefox or Chrome to see if the problem affects them as well.

Thanks for any help!

Hi,

I'm really hoping someone can help me out here.
For some reason, when I follow a link, the new page loads and after 10 seconds or so, it reverts back to the original page I came from by itself, as if I hit the 'Back' button.

This is not confined to web browsers either.
If I open Microsoft Outlook, it loads up displaying the contents of my inbox.
When I navigate away to another folder, say clicking on 'Sent Items', the contents of that folder displays for about 10 seconds, then the program automatically goes back to 'Inbox' folder...

If I open control panel and click on an icon such as 'Add/Remove Programs', same thing happens, it opens then, after about 10 seconds, reverts back to control panel window by itself, as if I hit the back button.

I'm running XP Pro SP2, I've just upgraded to IE8 although the problem was already there with IE7, and it happens with Google Chrome and Safari anyway so it can't be an Internet explorer version problem.

Please, if someone can help me before I tear all my hair out it would be appreciated...

Cheers,

Bobby
